00:00:28.960 --> 00:00:30.160
You must listen.

00:00:31.580 --> 00:00:32.540
You must listen.

00:00:36.400 --> 00:00:38.720
Now, here is the podcast.

00:00:39.200 --> 00:00:40.500
Metalheads Podcast Go.

00:00:40.860 --> 00:00:42.480
Hello, and welcome to the Metalheads Podcast.

00:00:42.800 --> 00:00:46.480
My name is George, and I did not win the Mega Millions last night.

00:00:46.780 --> 00:00:48.880
And this is Jay, also non-winner.

00:00:49.560 --> 00:00:50.260
This is Will.

00:00:50.640 --> 00:00:51.220
Did not win.

00:00:51.490 --> 00:00:53.020
This is John, and I always win.

00:00:54.880 --> 00:00:55.840
John's buying the beer.

00:00:55.900 --> 00:01:23.180
This is Matt. I did not win. Diddly. And we are joined today by yet another John, who we are going to call John BT. Please introduce yourself, sir. Hey, I'm John Burkholder Travis, or John BT. Previously, John in Texas. Jay's friend John in Texas. Now Jay's friend John in Tennessee. Excellent. Thank you for joining us. My man in Afghanistan. You're the only 10 I see.

00:01:25.900 --> 00:01:55.840
So I'm going to let Jay and you just sort of carry this for a little bit. Why don't you talk about yourself a little bit, your metal history, how did you get started, how did you meet Jay, all that fun stuff and I'll let you guys handle that. Sure. So I actually, like some of you guys, I'm a little bit older. Cheers. Broken into my 40s now, so you know, that's how it goes. But I actually got into metal and actually just music in general kind of late.

00:01:55.880 --> 00:02:25.360
high school-ish. I met a friend of mine in high school, and he sort of turned me on to metal in general. I remember my first concert ever was in high school, and I went to see Meatloaf. Nice. But at the same time, I was getting into metal and stuff, and I had talked to my buddy Mike, and there was a Slayer show coming up. And three days after seeing Meatloaf, we went to see Slayer on the Divine Intervention Tour.

00:02:26.500 --> 00:02:55.060
And it was in a small theater in Fresno, California. And it was just friggin insane. And that was it. I saw them on that tour too. Props to meatloaf and all. And I'm a huge Rocky IV horror fan. It just didn't compare to the guy standing in line who had a cast on his arm. And he told us he had it put on just for the pit. Oh no. Just so he could beat people with it? We didn't go in that pit.

00:02:55.880 --> 00:03:25.640
Yeah, I didn't either. Slayer's a gateway drug. It was. It was actually the... So Slayer was the first metal concert I saw, and it's the most recent show I saw, and those are the only two times I saw Slayer. Although Jay and I did have tickets for that time... Didn't his back or neck or... Yeah, one time his neck got hurt, or one time I had his back surgery, or whatever it was. Yeah. I forgot. The show was canceled. I was so pissed.

00:03:25.880 --> 00:03:55.860
John and I have seen a lot of concerts together so we'll try not to overdo it but yeah what what state were you guys living in Arizona or California we met in San Jose and we had like a like the funniest meet you yeah why don't you uh go into it because we both thought it was total BS that we were there yeah we both were match.com thing or so John and I both worked at San Jose State University I worked at uh the

00:03:56.500 --> 00:04:25.240
I don't remember what I did. And they had this, this was 2000. Orientation? Yeah, something like that. But it was like 2002, I must have been, because I think it was right after I started. And it was one of these horrible work things where they put a bunch of new people in a room together and then they go, you know, you do some fucking exercises and all this stuff. And then they did this thing where they were like, well, pair up with somebody and ask them some questions and whatever it was. I don't remember exactly. Tell them something interesting about you. Yeah.

00:04:25.900 --> 00:04:54.040
I said to John was, well, I'm super into heavy metal. And John was like, so am I. We've been friends ever since, man. And that was literally it. We were like, Iron Maiden, Iron Maiden. It was like. It went down the list. And it was just like, and we've been friends ever since. I don't remember what our first show we went to was. I don't know, man. We were always up at Slim's. Yeah. So a lot of shows together. So on Slade together, Opeth a couple of times. That. Oh,

00:04:55.880 --> 00:05:25.440
Yeah, that Gojira show, their first headlining show. One of the best ever, dude. That was amazing. And John, the other John, Big John and I's first show was Gojira together. There you go. Runs in a family. Was that with Devin Townsend? Yeah. That one? Yep. Up in Baltimore. Yep. One of our best concert stories, though, I think is, well, we really did see a lot of cool shows, but Maiden was touring. And this might have been the first show we went to.

00:05:25.500 --> 00:05:55.020
This was the week before I moved to Ukraine, I think. Oh, that's right. Yeah, John was in the Peace Corps for a while. I should let him tell you that. So I went, okay, so it was right before Dance of Death came out. His favorite album. The single was out and everything. But anyway, so we saw him in, it must have been Mountain View. It was at Shoreline in Mountain View. And then they were playing down in, what's in that? It was Concord, right? Yeah. So they were playing down at Concord the next day.

00:05:55.500 --> 00:06:24.420
And next day we're at work and John and I didn't work in the same building or anything. And I get on Ticketmaster for some reason and I'm like, you know, screw it. And I did a search for Iron Maiden tickets for Concord and I got front row seats. The day of the show. Like normal price too, right? Yeah, normal price. So I called John up and I was like, do you think he might want to go to Iron Maiden again tonight? You know, so, and so yeah, when we went down, we had front row seats, man. It was awesome. That was with Dio too. So yeah. Yeah, it was that tour. It was Dio, Maiden and... Motorhead? Motorhead. Yeah.

00:06:24.500 --> 00:06:52.620
I don't think we saw Motorhead the second night. Yeah, it's a farther drive. Yeah, that's way up there. And then we saw him again. I got those pit front row whatever tickets to the Final Frontier Tour. Yeah. Now we used to just go to, we were like, you know, the concert buddies up there. Yeah, like we all do. Anything in the Bay Area is pretty much we were always up in San Francisco hanging out at, where'd we go?

00:06:59.580 --> 00:07:24.180
The Metallica's bar. Tommy's joint. Yeah, we'd always hit a dish at Tommy's joint before the show. We'd have a couple beers and a couple more at the show. We saw, I don't remember the conditions under which we saw Enslaved the first time. The second time we saw one with Opeth. But we got to meet Enslaved and they did a signing session after their sat and stuff. We got a lot of good John.

00:07:24.500 --> 00:07:27.500
Jar of Memories. And you guys, I think, know he's joining me at Decibel.

00:07:28.540 --> 00:07:42.460
Yes, as a matter of fact, that was going to be our next topic, was the two of you talking about Decibel LA and, you know, who's going to be there and who are you looking forward to seeing and all that good stuff.

00:07:44.060 --> 00:07:47.660
I should probably tell you first and foremost that Looch can't make it, unfortunately.

00:07:48.720 --> 00:07:49.180
Oh, really?

00:07:49.760 --> 00:07:52.000
Yeah, he sent me his ticket and asked me to dispose of it properly.

00:07:53.000 --> 00:08:22.940
Yeah, he's the power attorney for his grandmother, who's not doing well. He wanted to call me and explain, but I was like, I'm not going to explain, dude. That's fine. Don't worry about it. Sorry to hear about that, Leach. I talked to him briefly about it. I was looking forward to him flying out a just ridiculous amount of alcohol. And candles. Sir, you can't check a cooler as a check bag. This is against regulations. But it's duct tape shut.

00:08:23.840 --> 00:08:51.380
If I know him, he'll just buy a seat for it. It's sealed in a wax Yankee candle. Well, and so don't let me step on you, John, but I will just say for the most, the best thing I can say about it is, you know, Trypticon, man. I can't wait for that set. You know, this having, because to this day, Celtic Frost, Monotheos Tour, that's my very favorite metal show of all time. So come out and do a Celtic Frost set, though Martinane will be missed.

00:08:51.660 --> 00:09:20.780
Do you also like the normal Trypticon stuff? Yeah. Oh, yeah. I love it. I joined the pod the year that Milana Kismata or whatever it was came out. That was George's record of the year. And I didn't do a list that year, but it would have been in my top five. But anyway, John, I'm curious to hear your voice and or favorite things you're looking forward to. Yeah. I mean, that's pretty awesome, too.

00:09:20.840 --> 00:09:50.740
I definitely think Monotheist is one of my favorite albums ever. And that's just going to be exciting. So I'm looking forward to that. I do like Trypticon, though not maybe as much. So, yeah. Not as much. I'll go there with you. I'm really excited actually about, I want to see, well, I've never seen Chemist Live. I want to see him. I was supposed to go to when they played at Brash and I was out of town.

00:09:50.820 --> 00:10:20.680
Just be prepared to lose your shit. Yeah, wear some diapers. Yeah, I like this. I was not into this new album, and then I got into the new album. How do you not get into that album? I don't know. I thought it was kind of boring in the beginning. But it grew on me. It was kind of like how Enslaved used to be, where you fell in love with the previous album when the next album came out. And so,

00:10:20.840 --> 00:10:50.260
This one took a while, but it's really awesome. And because of the show list, I actually really like Power Trip now. They seem like, I think they're going to be enjoyable to see. I think those are Texas Boys 2, by the way, John. Yeah. Yob, of course, is going to be good. Pig Destroyer? Yeah. No, of course, Pig Destroyer. I haven't seen them before, and that'll be really cool. I really like that new one. John Hart is still, I think, a little broken.

00:10:50.840 --> 00:10:55.440
Pennsylvania since he didn't get to see Carcass, which I think is a real

00:10:56.460 --> 00:10:59.840
important band for John's growth.

00:11:00.520 --> 00:11:03.000
So yeah, when you go back to my metal history,

00:11:04.500 --> 00:11:07.340
while I did really like Slayer and stuff, Carcass was like

00:11:08.160 --> 00:11:09.700
the band that I latched onto.

00:11:11.340 --> 00:11:13.860
Necroticism, and then later Heartwork, and

00:11:14.640 --> 00:11:17.180
Swan Song, and then even going to the earlier stuff too.

00:11:18.640 --> 00:11:48.540
My metal, we didn't go into my metal background. My buddy gave me Metallica. He was really into Justice for All, which is great and all, but once you start going back, it's really good. But I went back and listened to Master of Puppets and was like, oh, this is just too heavy. I don't know. And then I got into Carcass and Slayer. And then I was like, oh, I should probably re-listen to those early Metallica albums.

00:11:48.620 --> 00:12:17.000
And then that was it. Oh my god, this is way too light now. It's pop music. Yeah, and then there was like the other band that I latched on to heavily was Death and just huge Death fanatic. In fact, I brought this because I thought you guys might think this is interesting. I still have my Terrorizer tribute issue to Chuck Schultner. Wow. Oh, I did not know that existed. That's perfect. Yeah, it actually came out the month after he died.

00:12:18.620 --> 00:12:47.619
a long article and stuff about him but yeah this was like i guess it's yeah it says march 2002 and he or 2002 yeah and he died in late 2001 so yeah like december i think yeah right around christmas i think so no and that was that was pretty devastating uh but but yeah that was kind of like sort of this this path of oh i don't know bands are a little too heavy blah blah and then like oh just all in uh

00:12:48.900 --> 00:13:17.540
So it's like, oh, it's just the tip. It's just the tip. And then it's like, ah! Well, John once told me a story. I think every heavy metal kid has this story. John's story of that one tape his mom found was deicide. And she was like, I don't know about this, honey. So John fell deep into the hole pretty quick, I think. Yeah, I think Once Upon the Cross, which is so great, came out on Easter. Awesome.

00:13:18.760 --> 00:13:47.400
So, yeah, I'm going to come out to the Dust Bowl Philly. Yeah, it's my plan. So what do we want? Well, we're told one of us knows what bands are going to be there. And one of us is smiling and one of us can't tell the others. Yeah. So Will knows. Will knows. He's in tight with Albert. But Albert has decreed that we are not good enough to know. And so we have to wait another week. I will never cross that man.

00:13:47.640 --> 00:14:17.600
No, I don't blame you. But I'll say this. You did say, and I think it's okay to put you in this, that we're going to shit when we hear. There is... I can say this. Is it like a band, or is it like multiple bands that are going to make us shit? Multiple bands, and I think there's a couple bands that are going to make everyone shit, and then there's a couple bands that are going to make each individual person extremely happy. Nice. And then there's going to be a couple bands that make us groan because what the fuck? Um...

00:14:17.700 --> 00:14:19.640
I don't think so.

00:14:20.620 --> 00:14:21.680
Death Haven is headlining.

00:14:22.480 --> 00:14:25.280
That's actually too bad because we need like beer breaks.

00:14:28.360 --> 00:14:34.040
I definitely know there's one that we're all going to go take a break at.

00:14:34.780 --> 00:14:39.960
But I think I can announce, because it's going to be announced next week anyway, that Atlas is going to be pouring.

00:14:40.540 --> 00:14:41.960
Nice. Awesome.

00:14:42.840 --> 00:14:45.320
And it's going to be right around the time.

00:14:47.180 --> 00:15:17.040
Dan, my head brewer at Atlas, said that this is perfect timing because we're going to be coming up on batch 666. I was just going to ask if you were going to brew something for us. You're bringing Houseloto or what? We don't know. I don't know. It's to be determined. Okay. But we got several months. We got like six months to prepare. Here's the thing, Will. I'm pretty much at any point.

00:15:17.180 --> 00:15:46.980
I'm like 15 minutes away from a Walgreens, which is what I would need to do to get my adult diapers and probably another 15 minutes to get home, maybe 10 to get them on, get them situated. So I need a good 45 minutes heads up before you actually say anything. Whenever that day is. Matt, are you coming? I have a plane ticket and I have a hotel room. I just that's I just need a ticket to the show. Okay. They already have the dates there. Yeah, yeah, I have the dates. Oh, that's right. The dates came out a while back. Yeah. Yeah. Well, I don't actually,

00:15:47.180 --> 00:16:17.140
I'm not even sure if the dates came out. I've known the dates for a very long time. They did. They came out. Yeah. That's right. I thought they did announce the dates. It's not Easter. No, it's the week after. So probably a couple days after this is posted, they're going to start announcing bands and breweries. Cool. Are they going to do them all at once? Are they going to do the MDF? No, I think they're going to. I don't know. I mean, I got a list that who is playing. I don't know if they're going to release at all, but they usually

00:16:17.160 --> 00:16:47.140
release it in stages. So are you like sucking Albert's dick? Why do you know all this? Because they're pouring? Yeah, because we're pouring. There you go. He's associated with the event. They have to know if they want to go. It's like you don't want to be associated with certain bands. Glory Hammer's playing, what? Yeah. If the Code Orange kids are headlining, I'm like, yeah, no, maybe we skip this year. Oh, okay. Yeah, well, that's like this year where I'm going to go.

00:16:47.180 --> 00:17:17.100
I'm like, do I really want to listen to a couple of these bands ahead of time? Or, I don't know. Like, Black Delilah. Yeah, no, I don't think you do. I don't. But that's, hey, it's Los Angeles, man. It's a lot of fun. There's going to be other things to do. Not that we're going to walk out of this show, but that's the point where we'll go grab a comfy seat. Yeah. You know, I mean, it's just a bore. Because we haven't even talked about the beer other than what Will's saying about Atlas coming. I mean, that's the other saying we're going to get to do.

00:17:17.160 --> 00:17:46.320
I saw Droid Theory is going to be there. Yeah. Yeah. The list is similar to the last, which I guess they'll probably frequently do that. At the one in LA? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I was talking to Mark, who's the owner of a Droid Theory, and he's like, you know, if you want to come out, get your plane ticket. So what's the hold up? Yeah. I know. Do you want me to explain it yet again on this podcast? I have a three-year-old.

00:17:47.800 --> 00:18:16.140
It's called choosing your battles. Yes. Exactly. No, I know. My wife has regularly commented about the number of close proximity trips I have in the next couple weeks. And she was like, she's like. If you don't mind saying it, and you can cut all this out if you don't. Where in Tennessee are you? So we're in Nashville now. We were in Houston before, but we got, we were flooded in Hurricane Harvey. And then we basically decided we were done with Texas.

00:18:17.500 --> 00:18:47.080
and looked back at California where our family is and thought we didn't win the lottery ticket. So my sister-in-law moved out here and we came and checked it out. And the city is awesome. And there's hiking and mountains and it's a cool city and there's a ton of music. It's just the wrong kind of music. That said, I mean, like there's, it's cool. I mean, there's these music events and stuff that are just neat.

00:18:47.180 --> 00:19:08.340
to go to, like, right down the street, there's this old abandoned airport, and, like, all summer they do these what are called pick-in parties, where they basically just do bluegrass there, and people go and randomly play, and people just bring out, like, you know, folding chairs and sit around, and there's, like, three breweries that show up and start pouring beer.

00:19:09.300 --> 00:19:13.220
I mean, you know bluegrass is basically heavy metal just on banjos and washboards, right?

00:19:13.270 --> 00:19:13.960
Yeah, basically.

00:19:14.680 --> 00:19:17.080
They're improvising, they're playing fast, and, yeah.

00:19:17.400 --> 00:19:46.820
And we're drinking, so whatever. All things are tolerable with beer. We did see the Slayer show here, though, and that was fun, and I got to take some... There's a lot more crazy religious people here than there were in Texas. Oh, really? Oh, yeah, man. We're in the Baptist world now. Texas, they're religious, but they're like megachurch religious. You know? You know, like 50,000 people for every show don't drive down that street on Sunday. Oh, Joel, I do.

00:19:47.140 --> 00:20:15.380
I do feel, John, like I see Nashville and lists of tour dates a lot, though. So, I mean, I think you're in a better place to catch some of the shows you might have been missing in Texas. And you're not that far from a lot of other shows in proximity to other states if you can go on a little venture. No, that's true. I mean, Indy is really close. Louisville is really close. But there is a lot that comes through Nashville. People like the city and there's a lot of good venues.

00:20:16.760 --> 00:20:46.660
And we've been keeping up with that. We've gone to a couple small venues. Although I've only really gone. I've gone to like two two punk shows recently. A punk show and a hardcore show at this tiny little like a quarter of the size of Slim's place. But it's, you know, awesome and, you know, very small stage. Were they local bands or? No, they were touring. One of them was like this famous old punk band. I forget the name. I'd have to look.

00:20:46.760 --> 00:21:15.900
So MDC or something. Millions of dead cops. Yeah, millions of dead cops. Yeah, that was it. Nice. Nice. Oh, George. Well done. I know my shit. Yeah, you do. I had listened to him like 20 years ago. And my buddy, this guy I met here in town who, you know, had long hair. And I was like, oh, do you listen to metal? That's all John hates everybody. Pretty much. You know how many times I've been disappointed by that question, asking somebody,

00:21:16.000 --> 00:21:45.960
A guy that has long hair, I'm like, hey, you got long hair, like tattoos and stuff. You like metal? And they're like, no, I like rap. I was telling George I started my new job here and I was like, tell some interesting things about hobbies and stuff. And I'm like, well, I'm really into metal and really into board games. And then it was like crickets in both. I'm like, okay, so I'm not hanging with you guys. I am not having good, I've got fat fingers on the buttons tonight.

00:21:46.000 --> 00:22:15.940
I'm sorry. That was well done. Probably the more disappointing first conversation, though, is when somebody's talking to me and they're like, oh, you like metal? And they're like, yeah. And they're like, do you like docking or something? Do you like the event of Sevenfold? Disturbed. Disturbed. Yeah. You want to get away from him so fast. You really need to disturb, right? I get that stuff at work all the time. There's occasionally somebody comes in and they're like, oh, yeah, I like metal. I heard you guys are a metal brewery. And like, yeah, like, oh, what do you like?

00:22:27.100 --> 00:22:45.980
Yeah, no, I know. I remember because it was really funny, but the first time Jay ever mentioned me on the podcast was in relation to Trivium, which I was like, I got called out on Trivium. I just told him to listen to, I think it was their second album where they

00:22:46.000 --> 00:23:15.820
The singer basically decided he wanted to sound like James Hetfield. Yeah, like Crusade. Yeah, I don't remember what it was. Like the second and third. Like Shogun was a great album, I thought, at the time. I mean, like, it was that thing where they were kind of doing something and then I forgot about it. I don't ever listen to it, so. No. I still feel bad. I still feel bad. I did have a melodic death in metal phase and I still, like, really like Dark Tranquility here and there. Sure. Nothing wrong with that. A couple of those early Flames albums.

00:23:16.000 --> 00:23:45.360
Yeah. But then that all ran. So Tranquility was on the amorphous tour, actually. And I just saw them with somebody else. Yeah. I saw them on their first U.S. show at Slim's. He got so excited, he threw the mic in the air, and it slammed on the ground and broke. End of show. Came over, man. Two songs for them to find another mic. Yeah. I know Dr. Night of the Tree. He just kept singing.

00:23:46.520 --> 00:24:15.960
The first time I saw Inflames, I'd never heard of him before or anything. And I went to the 930 Club here in D.C. with my buddy Chop, who could be listening. Really good friend of mine who actually lives out in L.A. And I'm trying to get him to go to the Metal Beer Fest show. But and then he I mean, he's a huge Inflames fan. And I just remember after shows, hey, man, what'd you think? I'm like, there's a lot of fucking keyboards, man. Yeah, that was definitely the later Inflames. Yeah. But those those first couple albums were really cool.

00:24:16.020 --> 00:24:45.780
And it was this like early melodic death metal was sort of like, oh crap, someone finally listened to Carcass and decided to continue on this path. And then they kind of kept continuing on a path of adding more keyboards and other stuff. And just erase was like Iron Maiden with harsh vocals. Oh, totally. So, and Horacle was fantastic. But you know, now I don't listen to that stuff anymore. So basically dead.

00:24:46.020 --> 00:24:47.740
Put away childish things.

00:24:50.300 --> 00:24:51.760
Sounds of a playground fading.

00:24:53.040 --> 00:24:54.560
Sounds of a career ending.

00:24:57.020 --> 00:24:59.940
And I remember we went to an Inflames show.

00:25:00.420 --> 00:25:05.540
It was actually that Dark Train Quote one, but Inflames brought them along.

00:25:05.960 --> 00:25:09.080
And Inflames came out and they were wearing uniforms.

00:25:09.780 --> 00:25:10.120
Yeah, white.

00:25:10.960 --> 00:25:11.220
White.

00:25:11.710 --> 00:25:12.200
Yeah, okay.

00:25:12.410 --> 00:25:14.460
And I turned and I was like, oh, they're done.

00:25:16.800 --> 00:25:45.720
I don't think I think you and I you and I went to the Gojira one with Inflames but they were still wearing uniforms yeah yeah yeah but this was the uh reroute to remain that's right tour and they brought dark tranquility to the U.S. for the first time and Inflames comes out and they're wearing these like white medical I don't know like shirts or something I don't know how to describe it and I turned to my buddy Mike and I was like

00:25:45.780 --> 00:25:51.980
I thought the album sucked but they're done. It's like what painters wear.

00:25:52.650 --> 00:26:11.600
Yeah. Like an overcoat. Well, you know, not to harp on this anymore, but we saw Gojir there and the funny thing was it was so much not as cool as the first time we saw him. The first time we saw him was at Slim's and they were just breaking and they came out and just blew the place away.

00:26:11.920 --> 00:26:41.860
Remember, he dove off the stage on the last song, holding the mic, while the crowd held him up and he sang at least for, what, two minutes while crowd surfing, singing his last track. And it was just unbelievable. And it was their first show on their first headlining tour. And they were, I remember they were selling artwork that they were doing in the bus to try to eat. Yeah, you almost bought one, but it was like 80 bucks.

00:26:45.500 --> 00:27:10.160
It's the first headlining show, the first tour, and they're like, wow, that was really stupid. I'm not doing that again. That's right. We got to see the one where they made all of the dangerous mistakes. It was awesome. It was like the first time I saw Opeth on their first full tour. The room was just electric. What do you guys know? I'm sure you guys saw on the early tours. It's just this name that Gojira is kind of like, eh.

00:27:11.940 --> 00:27:41.720
They don't capture my attention anymore. That last album. I know Will liked it. I liked it. I'm actually surprised I like it. I'm very particular about my clean singing. I think they did it okay. I'd like to hear the answer to John's question because that was a good question. What was it? You guys go back to that album because I was telling Jay when it came out, I was like, in a year or two,

00:27:41.940 --> 00:28:11.880
We're never going to listen to this album again. I haven't gone back to it much just because the nature of this podcast. I'm always trying to stay on top of all the new stuff. But you still listen to things. I'm sure you guys still listen to albums. And I do. And of all the Gojira albums, the only one I really go back to that often is Mars is Serious. It's one of my favorite albums ever. But if I hear it, they'll occasionally play Silvera.

00:28:11.960 --> 00:28:17.800
and there's the other big single that they released on they'll play on Sirius XM every now

00:28:17.860 --> 00:28:41.900
and again if I or something it was like or a bus or something like no that was a different album I think okay and you know that wasn't earlier yeah but anyway if I hear on Sirius XM I'm like yeah I'm gonna play I'm gonna switch over because I my radio allows me to play the plug-in favorite songs and favorite albums or not favorite favorite artists and favorite

00:28:41.900 --> 00:28:50.280
songs, which is really annoying because I can't put Metallica down as a favorite artist because I'm going to get 30 years of shit.

00:28:50.520 --> 00:28:51.780
You have to log all the songs.

00:28:52.220 --> 00:28:53.360
Yeah, I just put in the songs.

00:28:53.940 --> 00:29:03.020
But I have Gojira as a favorite artist, so occasionally Jose will play something half-decent on that station.

00:29:03.660 --> 00:29:06.480
So speaking of revisiting stuff, I actually have a question for John.

00:29:06.860 --> 00:29:07.000
Yeah.

00:29:07.580 --> 00:29:08.080
BT, John.

00:29:09.160 --> 00:29:39.120
A, it starts with, this is not really the question, but did we see Machine Head together on the Black Knee tour? Yeah, we did. Okay. I just remember if we were in the same room. I wanted to ask you about what you thought of what the hell's going on there now, which I noticed we didn't put in the news. Which is, aren't this tour as their farewell tour all of a sudden? It's not their farewell tour. It's the farewell tour for this lineup. Fair enough. Fair enough. Yeah. You know how much I liked them. And I remember, like, I stuck with Machine Head.

00:29:39.180 --> 00:30:09.140
I got their first album when it came out. George, can you hang up on him now? I bought the first one when it came out. The first one was great. I remember we got that and Testament Low on a trip to Vegas when we were 18 to go to the CES, which was before E3. We were going to these video games show, whatever. We listened to Low and we listened to Machine

00:30:09.180 --> 00:30:12.360
It was amazing.

00:30:12.710 --> 00:30:15.300
And then I kind of stuck with them for a while.

00:30:15.620 --> 00:30:17.580
And they just progressively turned to shit.

00:30:18.560 --> 00:30:21.140
And then when I was actually in Ukraine, I think Jay told me that

00:30:21.480 --> 00:30:25.000
Through the Ashes of whatever came out and it was actually good.

00:30:25.420 --> 00:30:27.160
They were kind of like turning around and then...

00:30:27.460 --> 00:30:34.160
And then out of nowhere, what was easily the most amazing album of, I think, 2008?

00:30:35.020 --> 00:30:35.840
Whatever year it was.

00:30:36.300 --> 00:30:36.600
Blackening.

00:30:36.790 --> 00:30:38.000
And it was like unbelievable.

00:30:39.340 --> 00:31:08.040
It's the only one of theirs I'll ever put on again. Yeah. Like, in all honesty, the Black Man is great, but to me it's just like this weird little phantom in the middle of their otherwise somewhat unremarkable life. No, and I basically will only listen to the first album or that. Or that, yeah. And the first album is more because of the nostalgia thing of discovering it when I did, and it was new and different, and, you know,

00:31:08.100 --> 00:31:38.080
But that Blackkney album is unbelievable. It really is. It is. If that was a Dark Tranquility record or some other band I'm not totally into, I would still say that. You know what I mean? I'm a Machine Head fan. Not necessarily, but I'm a Blackkney fan, for sure. I have that thing, too, on some other bands. You have those bands where it's like that one album click, but the other album's eh. Just not your cup of tea. You also have the bands that don't click forever, and then you're pissed off of all the

00:31:40.720 --> 00:31:43.560
Like actually Mastodon didn't click for me until

00:31:46.000 --> 00:31:47.500
was it Once More Around the Sun?

00:31:48.160 --> 00:31:49.800
No, I think it was the one before that I thought.

00:31:49.980 --> 00:31:51.220
Oh, it was The Hunter, right?

00:31:51.940 --> 00:31:53.700
I can't remember. It was about that time that you wrote me.

00:31:53.700 --> 00:31:57.640
It was The Hunter that clicked, but it was so annoying because you and I went to

00:31:58.940 --> 00:32:00.860
the live Crack the Sky show.

00:32:01.240 --> 00:32:01.400
Yeah.

00:32:02.440 --> 00:32:05.760
Where they did the whole album and they had that awesome video thing.

00:32:05.960 --> 00:32:35.940
And I remember watching it going, this is amazing. This show is unbelievable. This band is amazing. And then I put on the CD again. It was like, eh. And then now that's like one of my favorite CDs of all time. Yeah, you came around. But you like later Day Mastodon than earlier? No, I actually like earlier Leviathan and Crack the Sky are my two favorite. And then I still like Hunter because that was kind of where it clicked for me. But then like

00:32:35.980 --> 00:33:05.940
Like, Once More Around the Sun was catchy, and it was interesting, but I don't... It was like that, oh, this is going downhill, and then, oh my god. I didn't like Emperor of Sand at all. Once More Around the Sun was the first step in the wrong direction, for sure. It was definitely a radio track song. People always forget to mention Blood Mountain, but that's a good one, too. So that's one I keep going back to, and it's like listening to a... It's like this... Listening to this album of a band that you've, like, fallen for, and then...

00:33:05.980 --> 00:33:32.980
There's this one more album I can go grab and be like, oh, it's so really good. And I haven't really gone into it as much. So every once in a while, I put it on and I'm like, I'm sort of savoring it. So yeah, take your time with it. Was Blood Mountain right before or after Crack the Sky? Before. That's what I thought. So that was the one after Leviathan. It's where they blew up. Like they exploded. And that's when I blew them off. That's why they exploded.

00:33:35.980 --> 00:34:05.640
I remember seeing Mastodon and they played all of Crack the Sky. Yeah. And then they played it in its entirety and they had the movie in the background. I can just picture the guy with the wig with the long hair being all crazy. Then they came back and I mean that in itself was enough of a set. But then they came back and played 13 more songs off of all their previous albums. I mean I can't tell you the ice pack I needed for my crotch after that because it hurt so bad. It was amazing. It was amazing. They were my favorite band for a long time.

00:34:05.700 --> 00:34:35.460
John, do you remember who was with them when we saw them? Oh, dude, it was Death Clock. Oh, yes, on the Metalocalypse tour. That's right. I saw both, though. I saw that tour, and then I saw their headlining tour with Kylisa, and I think it was Intranaut. So I saw that album in its entirety with the movie twice, which is crazy. I went to both of those tours. My other humorous band tour was when I was at San Jose State in college. Some friends were like,

00:34:35.679 --> 00:35:04.200
Well, I bought tickets to go see Tenacious D. Tenacious D was opening for Weezer. And this is a little while after they came back. I had actually seen them on their comeback tour at the Warped Tour thing. But I don't really care that much, whatever. But anyway, all these people that I knew that I knew at school were going to see Weezer. And my buddy and I were going to see Tenacious D. And Tenacious D was amazing and enjoyable.

00:35:05.200 --> 00:35:33.240
Like going to see a really fun, you know, two comedians up on stage doing metal and loving metal stuff and being idiots and whatever. And then Weezer came on and they stood there and they played guitars and there were a lot of lights. And like afterwards, I was talking to friends and they were like, man, Weezer was really boring after Tenacious D. Who wouldn't be? That was what I was thinking. I was like, why would you want Tenacious D as your opening?

00:35:33.300 --> 00:35:33.940
Yeah, yeah.

00:35:34.859 --> 00:35:35.500
That's like those old stories.

00:35:35.500 --> 00:35:37.100
It's like having GWAR open for you.

00:35:38.120 --> 00:35:45.520
It's like those old stories when Slayer would open up for certain bands and everybody would be like, I'm sorry, who's headlining after Slayer plays?

00:35:45.720 --> 00:35:46.480
Just go home.

00:35:47.260 --> 00:35:54.940
You know, before we get too far here, too, and do some other news, and John should be the one to speak more about himself, but there are interesting things about him I think you should know.

00:35:54.940 --> 00:36:00.560
And one is that when he said he'd gone to Ukraine, he was in the Peace Corps for a couple years, which was a really cool thing.

00:36:00.920 --> 00:36:02.220
Yeah, by the way, have you seen Ukraine?

00:36:02.480 --> 00:36:32.120
You may need to go back and rethink how much peace made. I wasn't just in Ukraine. I was in Crimea, which is now occupied by Russia. Yeah, exactly. So did they pay you? Because it didn't seem like you did a good job. Well, if the balance was, if it was based on population and they lost by one person, it was because John brought a girl home with them. But then, and then also John has an interest in, and your degree was in something like country rebuilding or something.

00:36:32.180 --> 00:37:01.800
You can tell it better than me, but you should. International development stuff, yeah. And now I have a master's in international economics. Yeah. I don't do any stuff anymore. Yeah, now it's all about the money. Because while you were doing an oil thing in Texas, or was it just financial in Texas? Yeah, I worked in oil and gas, and now I work in the medical industry doing financial stuff. You're going to say banjos and watch. I mean, the development stuff took me around the world.

00:37:02.180 --> 00:37:31.960
I got to live in Congo for a while. Literally in Kinshasa or Brazzaville? Kisangani in Kinshasa. Kisangani was a city but in big Congo, DRC. But dead center Africa. Kisangani is actually the last stop, the navigable point on the Congo River. And it's where they found Kurtz in Heart of Darkness. I was going to say, this has to be a Heart of Darkness thing.

00:37:32.160 --> 00:37:59.260
So if you're a big fan of now or whatever, it's dead at the end of the Joseph Conrad journey is Isangani. And you can't navigate past that point. And literally there's no roads west from there because it's the point where all the eastern rebels, it's the furthest point they can get before they just hit true jungle all the way to the west, like Kinshasa.

00:37:59.680 --> 00:38:02.500
And the government doesn't want to connect it with roads because

00:38:03.480 --> 00:38:05.340
they could be overthrown quicker by the rebels.

00:38:08.040 --> 00:38:10.340
You also lived in Johannesburg for a little while, didn't you?

00:38:10.880 --> 00:38:14.640
It's been a year in Johannesburg. My wife went there and opened up a school.

00:38:15.720 --> 00:38:16.720
That's right. Yeah, yeah.

00:38:17.290 --> 00:38:21.860
You know what I know about Johannesburg? Stoplights don't mean you have to stop because you'll get carjacked.

00:38:22.620 --> 00:38:24.460
My wife got carjacked, actually.

00:38:25.210 --> 00:38:25.500
Did she?

00:38:26.440 --> 00:38:28.680
Actually, I mean, Johannesburg is no joke, man.

00:38:28.720 --> 00:38:58.540
And it is a one. It's just weird being there because you these people some people are like really rich and have just a lot of money and then it just has this weird feeling. But then you can meet some really cool people. I actually hung out all the time with a group of all gay board gamers. I don't know how I found this group, but that was pretty much who I hung out with. And they were a bunch of guys a couple work for the UN and they were all Afrikaners.

00:38:58.720 --> 00:39:27.960
And normally Afrikaners are like some of the more racist annoying people in the country. So these guys being the ultra minority of being gay in this. Yeah. Or they were like so open minded and great. Yeah. And but I hung out with them. And actually, like two weeks after I left Johannesburg, one of them, some people broke into his house to steal his lap, stole his laptop and iPad and murdered him. Damn.

00:39:28.720 --> 00:39:58.060
He worked for the UN, so. Wow. That is not shocking. Dude, it is a crazy place. I mean, like, you could get, and it's also, like, some of the richest, most incredible, like, riches you've ever seen. People that's, like, yeah, but they all live behind these walls and barbed wire and craziness, so. One of my best friends is originally from Johannesburg, and I went over there,

00:39:58.820 --> 00:40:27.640
I went over there on a big tour of southern Africa. Actually, the one time I'd been to Africa for tourism and not some sort of war-torn shithole thing. But I stayed with his parents and bars on every door. I mean, panic rooms. I mean, it's like living in a fortress because the crime is so bad. Now, we actually lived in a decent house. We had a wall but no barbed wire. And we rented a room with this woman.

00:40:28.140 --> 00:40:56.580
It was like she was more like very liberal and kind of hippie-ish. And, you know, we'd go out and walk and it was no big deal. We felt generally good. And it wasn't until after we left that it was like, oh, crap, maybe there's a little bit more danger. But I actually felt like safer in Congo when I actually like lived there and had an AK-47 under my bed, but never really needed to use it. But I mean, it was there.

00:40:57.580 --> 00:40:59.340
Yeah, it's like Baltimore.

00:41:00.060 --> 00:41:13.960
And actually, when I was in Congo, we were actually trained by, like, we were working with a project with the U.S. military, and I was doing this agriculture stuff with them, teaching, like, soldiers how to farm and whatever.

00:41:14.620 --> 00:41:26.820
But the U.S. military was there training them how to be soldiers, and it was just so awesome because I could use my free time to go over to the shooting range, and the Marines that were there would just, like,

00:41:27.100 --> 00:41:57.060
Oh, yeah. You want to learn how to shoot an AK-47 accurately? I'll teach you. Like, I'd shoot it in semi-auto and actually hit targets, go full auto, and learn that the gun just keeps going up. Oh, yeah. And then he was like, oh, yeah, if anybody ever pulls an AK-47, just run, because they're going to fire at the sky very quickly. A little interesting, though, in fact, about the AK-47 is the first selector switch down, it's a thumb selector switch on the right side of the rifle. The first selector switch down is automatic. The second one is

00:41:57.100 --> 00:42:26.720
Semi-automatic. So the default is basically auto. Yeah. But he was like, this guy was in Iraq, and he was talking about like, he's like, yeah, you just watch these guys, and there's like guys on both sides, and they're shooting each other, and the bullets are just going off. So, but yeah, no, it was interesting, so. And I'll just say that John has had a nice, interesting life, and is a man worth knowing. You guys will meet him face-to-face eventually. Yeah, definitely.

00:42:27.100 --> 00:42:56.180
But that guy with a lot of good stories to tell and a fun guy to hang out with. I kind of want to spoon with you now. Yeah. Well, as soon as you said the more the Marines, it was like, you know what? I like this guy. I'm an ultra liberal and I like that. He likes Marines. You know, Philly decibel spoon pile. We only need one room, please. One of my regrets about Johannesburg is that I discovered Wilderness King later and would have totally gone to see them.

00:42:57.100 --> 00:43:27.040
I broke up now. I know, but they were touring and stuff when I was there. Oh, that's too bad. No, that would have been awesome. I wouldn't, I would so have gone. Did you go to the carnivore? Huh? Did you go to the carnivore restaurant? I don't think so. No. Okay. My wife's a vegetarian, so. You definitely did not go there then. I would go eat meat stuff with everybody else, but you know, it's always limited. So I'm kind of in the, the Pulp Fiction. My wife's a vegetarian.

00:43:27.080 --> 00:43:56.500
So that kind of makes me a vegetarian. Like Jay. Yeah. Well, Jay and I go out. We always go out for Indian food. That's right. I never forget every time he orders the eggplant. And it's just so good. That Indian mushy eggplant. Bang and Bartha, it's called. Bang and Bartha spicy. Knock you over. All the non-incurries closed, man. Oh, really? Yeah. There's a comparable place now, but non-incurries gone. The one in the city we ate, it might still be there.

00:43:56.920 --> 00:44:26.860
But everything in the East Bay and everybody else is close. All right. Yeah, let's get into news. Before we get into the news, I just want to remind people to like us on Facebook, on Twitter. I am DiscipleOVMetal. Oh, and I am KentonikJ. I am BrewMetalWill, and I'm also now on Instagram because I realize that nobody is on Twitter.

00:44:28.920 --> 00:44:29.320
Yeah.

00:44:31.420 --> 00:44:32.900
White Cluster 69 on everything.

00:44:34.860 --> 00:44:37.000
That sounds like special sauce, doesn't it?

00:44:37.340 --> 00:44:39.400
Could you put White Cluster 69 on everything, please?

00:44:42.020 --> 00:44:43.180
I can do that too, Jay.

00:44:45.700 --> 00:44:48.580
I am Dad of Northern Darkness, no sauce, and that is on Instagram.

00:44:50.980 --> 00:44:55.420
And I'm going to jump in and say that's still, like everybody else has the best handle.

00:44:55.680 --> 00:44:55.960
It is.

00:44:56.060 --> 00:45:26.020
Oh, thank you. Thank you. I'm not on social media. No, you know, Facebook. I'll be the dad of mid-Atlantic darkness. Yeah. Still can be. How far north are you? Minneapolis. Oh, yeah. Kind of north there. You know, we're going to have. Oh, yeah, you know. So this will be the first place since Russia or Ukraine and Russia that where I live, where it snows. And it's going to be interesting because I've never been in a car where it might snow.

00:45:26.640 --> 00:45:55.780
But apparently it doesn't snow that much, so I'm still okay. Yeah, you're kind of right there at that border where it's, you're going to have probably a couple snow days, but it won't be like. I will say this. You know, I live in the Washington, D.C. area, and it's just farther enough south where, like, it snows a couple times every year, but no one knows how to, because it's southern, like, it doesn't snow that much. No one knows how to drive in it, so just, and it's worse. As the further south you go, like, when it snows, and occasionally when it snows in, like, Florida or Georgia,

00:45:56.460 --> 00:46:25.440
I mean just forget about it because no one knows how to deal with it. Last year it snowed in Houston in February like for the first time in 12 years and everyone just sent messages from work and like we're all staying home for like a couple hours while the snow's out for our kids and then it's going to melt and then everybody showed up to work at like 11. Nice. You know when we first moved to Illinois my wife and I she hadn't lived in a place where it snowed for a long time. She lived in Arizona for most of her adult life so she'd lived in snow as a kid.

00:46:26.580 --> 00:46:56.040
It's just baseball sized balls of snow. To be sure. But we were driving around one day and as those of you who do live in snowy areas know sometimes you'll see these like Caltrans I would call them like a road service these big dump trucks and they've filled them with snow from the banks because they gotta you know there's no place out they gotta go take it. I said you know how they get rid of that snow and she's like no and I said they just keep driving south and when it melts they come back and get another load. And I swear to God

00:46:56.080 --> 00:47:25.940
For like two seconds she was like really? About it. All right. So before we go to the news I'm going to ask Will and stuff the normal Will question. What are you guys drinking? Oh thank you for saying that. Because I pulled out this. I was previously drinking this Brass Brutal Brute IPA by Brash but now I have this Three Floyds Space Station Middle Finger. Oh yeah yeah. I've had that.

00:47:26.140 --> 00:47:55.880
It's pretty good. It's pretty good. It's a pale ale, but it has some weird, unique flavor to it that I can't grasp yet. It's got a maltiness that's really nice. The middle finger. Yeah. But it doesn't describe anything, what this other flavor in there is. But, yeah. Three Foyers doesn't even put the alcohol content on their beer. Nope. So, yeah. Well, I don't think Brash does either. They don't even put their name, which, as you pointed out, is illegal. Yeah. Well,

00:47:56.080 --> 00:48:25.620
Well, I don't know about Texas law, but TTB usually, TTB, which is the Texas and something Bureau, I should know this, the brewing industry for almost nine years now, they require that they put on the name of the brewery and where it was in the city where it was brewed. Okay. Or bottled, you know, brewed and bottled by, you know, whoever. So this says brewed and bottled in Houston, Texas for the brash.

00:48:26.080 --> 00:48:56.040
And they actually don't sell it in stores. So they only sell their releases out of the brewery. Maybe that's how they get around it. And they can always sell a certain amount of beer per year. And they pretty much are at their limit. So they've talked about it. Yeah, there's some limit of what you can do. I know there have been articles about it that I read. And there's some limit of how much they can sell out of the brewery and sort of be that way. And and they've I've talked to

00:48:56.060 --> 00:49:24.320
And I've talked to the owner and stuff and he's like, yeah, we're not gonna. At this point in time, we have no desire to get any bigger. He's also an investor in a couple of restaurants. So he's got his thing going. Cool. He's got a good name for himself because I know a lot of bands go down there to play. Yep. What's their, have you been there to a show there? Yeah. Yeah. It's their capacity. How many people can they squeeze into that place? So they have this unique thing. It's basically this big warehouse.

00:49:26.820 --> 00:49:55.080
And they basically just have the walls are lined with arcade machines and they have a jukebox. And literally the jukebox is off in a corner and just blasts metal. But if you get further enough away, you know, like if you bring in kids and stuff, there's like, you know, no big deal. And they're fine with like any kids, anybody can go. They usually have a barbecue guy parked outside, you know, with his trailer and stuff.

00:49:55.160 --> 00:50:25.120
and he's cooking barbecue but they basically have a it's weird because it's like off this main road you drive down an alley and then there's this big parking lot area and that parking lot area is where they sort of host the band in the show and then you also all the shows are outside and actually in the brewery yeah so they're like right outside and but but the brewery you could have a show i just think it would be really echoey because it's like uh you know it's like a tin building like like a tin metal

00:50:25.160 --> 00:50:54.180
Sighted Building. And honestly, they don't have air conditioning, and they also don't have a big-ass fan, which they really need. One of those fans in the ceiling. And the summer is pretty miserable, which is also when they debut two of their top stouts, which makes no sense. Are people lining up for it? Oh, yeah, they line up. It's like their court top.

00:50:55.180 --> 00:51:00.240
and another one. But the one I like comes out in, which I'll have later, comes out in

00:51:01.340 --> 00:51:07.440
the winter, which I'm really hoping they bring to Decibel because they have a history of bringing terrible beers to these shows.

00:51:09.560 --> 00:51:11.020
So we'll see if they bring a good one.

00:51:11.460 --> 00:51:13.300
Is this the Brash you're talking about?

00:51:13.320 --> 00:51:14.280
Yeah, Brash, yeah.

00:51:14.640 --> 00:51:15.720
George, what are you drinking?

00:51:17.920 --> 00:51:21.400
Wait, I'll go first. It's because Will will want to make fun of me, but I just ate.

00:51:22.200 --> 00:51:23.740
I'm drinking water from a Slayer cup.

00:51:24.380 --> 00:51:24.600
Oh,

00:51:25.360 --> 00:51:26.140
that's at least kind of metal,

00:51:26.300 --> 00:51:26.360
right?

00:51:27.120 --> 00:51:27.740
They were selling,

00:51:27.840 --> 00:51:28.760
they were selling these at the show.

00:51:29.820 --> 00:51:30.080
Nice.

00:51:30.400 --> 00:51:32.220
I'm drinking my old standby two hearted.

00:51:34.840 --> 00:51:36.020
That's a lot of people stand by.

00:51:36.840 --> 00:51:39.360
I did have a Lagunitas brown sugar.

00:51:40.080 --> 00:51:40.160
Oh,

00:51:40.280 --> 00:51:40.660
that's pretty good.

00:51:40.720 --> 00:51:40.920
Now,

00:51:41.360 --> 00:51:47.300
now I am drinking the surly 2016 darkness Imperial style.

00:51:48.700 --> 00:51:50.980
I've got a Wilton Wander from Hammer Herc.

00:51:53.300 --> 00:52:22.140
I like to rub that hammer stuff down our throats, don't you, man? God damn it, man. I do. I do. I look forward to when you ram it down my throat. Hey, Chewy. Yeah, I just realized. So Chewy's here, my dog, in the view. And Chewy, so Jay mentioned that I brought somebody back from Ukraine who's no longer here, by the way. So that's, she went back. I thought it was your wife. But no. It was his wife. It was. It didn't work out. She didn't like America.

00:52:23.280 --> 00:52:52.600
And that was fine. We had a very amicable split. But Chewy, who goes by, his name is Chewvak, which is dude in Russian, is from Crimea. So he is quite in his old age, but he's still got it going on. But he's originally from Sevastopol, Ukraine. I remember him well. Russian Navy base there. Yep. I've been in their underground submarine factory. Cool.

00:52:54.279 --> 00:53:23.220
John enlightened me to a very cool term that I like and have long liked. And it is that when John came back with his wife, we used to. You said it's only gay if you like it. No, if somebody sees you doing it, you got that wrong. We went to we would still with John was back. So we were hanging out again and his wife would come along with us and she would speak in Ukrainian and John would speak in English. What she taught me was she was speaking in Russian. Excuse me. And John taught me that's known as Star Wars English.

00:53:23.280 --> 00:53:48.420
That's when one person speaks one language and the other person speaks English like Chewbacca and Hansel. So that's Star Wars English. That's mostly how we communicated. Yeah, I never knew what the hell she said. No one did. John, what are you drinking? I'm done now, but it was a bone dagger from Burial. All right. Nice. All right, let's get into some news.

00:54:01.160 --> 00:54:22.860
So the first one, correct me, I honestly don't know how to say the guy's name, which is unfortunate. It's either Ollie or Ole Herbert. I think it's Ollie. Of All That Remains, he was the guitar player. The other day he was found dead in a pond near his residence. He was 44 years old. I'm not a fan of that band, but

00:54:23.800 --> 00:54:51.740
It's always sad to hear somebody from the community passing. Yeah, I looked this up. I actually really liked their first album. Like I was kind of that was still when I was sort of into the whole, you know, melodic death. And I thought they were a decent enough metalcore show or band. Then I saw it live and they were awful. Yeah, but there were a couple metalcore bands that released their first album and were pretty good. I mean, I put them in Shadows Fall.

00:54:52.800 --> 00:55:21.260
and stuff. But then they all just went down these other paths. And I saw them live and they were like so bad. I'll say this to 44. That's too bad. Yeah. And I just saw this the other day. David Vincent, formerly of Morbid Angel, and some guys from Mayhem and Cryptopsy, Blasphemer and Flow. They have a new band that I am going to butcher the name of.

00:55:23.000 --> 00:55:23.400
Viltimas.

00:55:27.540 --> 00:55:28.980
Most likely that as anything else.

00:55:30.360 --> 00:55:36.080
Their debut album was coming out in early 2019, and they gave us a little teaser clip, and it sounded kind of cool.

00:55:36.800 --> 00:55:37.400
Yeah, I like it.

00:55:38.280 --> 00:55:38.740
I like it, too.

00:55:38.780 --> 00:55:39.980
I mean, David Vincent, he...

00:55:40.880 --> 00:55:51.060
Well, you know, okay, yeah, he went off and did his country thing, and that's fine, you know, but I mean, I don't think that ever meant he stopped understanding their loving metal, so he's just stretching his muscles again.

00:55:51.320 --> 00:55:51.540
Yep.

00:55:52.640 --> 00:55:53.560
And good for him.

00:55:54.520 --> 00:55:56.500
He's doing the I Am Morbid thing too.

00:55:57.300 --> 00:55:57.380
Yeah.

00:55:58.340 --> 00:55:58.700
What's that?

00:55:59.620 --> 00:56:01.820
Is it like them playing Morbid Angel songs?

00:56:02.340 --> 00:56:07.780
Him and the, not the most, the previous drummer, I think, to who is there now.

00:56:08.360 --> 00:56:08.480
Sure.

00:56:10.320 --> 00:56:12.100
I listened to it and I thought it was all right.

00:56:12.680 --> 00:56:12.800
Yeah.

00:56:13.300 --> 00:56:14.560
Looking forward to hearing more of that.

00:56:16.260 --> 00:56:46.180
And apparently there's a documentary capturing the final days of Worel Dane while he was making the Shadow Work album. I read the article, but I didn't get any indication of unless it's being packaged with the album. You can watch it on YouTube. It's not very long. But the thing I'll say about it is kind of sad and not to bring my own personal thing into this, but my brother died basically the same way he did. And you could see it coming, dude. If you look at those pictures of Worel, his face is all puffy and his legs are popsicles.

00:56:46.260 --> 00:57:16.040
sticks, dude. Like, he was, his, what happens when your kidneys and stuff fails, you're, you can no longer produce red blood cells that make your muscles, you know, develop and stuff, and he looked bad, dude. I watched, I fast-forwarded to it, you know, and it was kind of fun to hear him sing, because there were some things where he was singing, and it was one of those things where it's, you know, he's listening to the headphones, and all you hear is his voice. And I would also remind that his first solo record was actually pretty good, so. Dude, that solo record's amazing.

00:57:16.260 --> 00:57:45.640
Yeah, so I'll at least check this out. They did release a track, and I don't remember being super wild by it. Off the new one, yeah. But anyway, I watched it. It's on YouTube. All right, well, check it out. So for me and the rest of the people, who is World Dane? Sanctuary and Nevermore. Yeah. Thank you. In my book, Nevermore is, I know you guys like Sanctuary, but man. Yeah, I'm a Sanctuary guy. No, Nevermore is what he's, he's never, I know him and love him from Nevermore. Yeah. For sure. George, how bad did he look at Valken?

00:57:45.640 --> 00:58:15.300
I felt like you were fairly close. Oh, you saw him. Yeah. It was weird because I saw Sanctuary in 87 and then 30 years again later in 2017 at Valken. And he sounded great. He looked pretty decent. You know, a couple months later, he was dead. Yeah, that's crazy. It is crazy. But he had diabetes and was a lifelong, I think, real heavy alcoholic. Well, yeah, that on good authority from.

00:58:15.840 --> 00:58:45.420
Van Williams. Wasn't there somebody else that was in the Aries thing? Was it there another guy from Nevermore? Just Van Williams, maybe. He was living in Brazil, right? Yeah, which I think happens. It's almost the same thing as with Paul Viano, which is I think some of these guys are so heavily worshipped over there, they can go over and make a variety of a living. And there's somebody willing to finance a record.

00:58:45.680 --> 00:58:48.100
and stuff. So that was my take on what he was doing over there.

00:58:48.420 --> 00:58:48.520
True.

00:58:49.460 --> 00:58:49.520
Yeah.

00:58:49.960 --> 00:58:50.020
Yeah.

00:58:50.700 --> 00:58:51.840
Well, the record's coming out. We'll see.

00:58:52.600 --> 00:59:00.100
I mean, I'll listen to whatever comes out, but I mean, like, his solo record was great, and Godless Endeavor was...

00:59:00.260 --> 00:59:00.780
That's the one.

00:59:01.320 --> 00:59:08.560
Like, if you listen to any Nevermore album, Godless Endeavor is, like, unfreaking believable.

00:59:09.300 --> 00:59:15.620
Some people will argue that point to you, but to me it was a straight up trajectory until they got to that, and that is their...

00:59:15.640 --> 00:59:45.120
Master of Puppets is so good. Yeah. That album's deep. It's sci-fi-ish and just has such great concepts in there. Killer riffs, no wasted space. Yep. So there's apparently a new Overkill album expected in February of 2019. That's weird. It seems like they never record records. Yeah. It's been like almost six months or something, right? They never shut up.

00:59:45.620 --> 01:00:13.460
There's no title yet, but just because it's a few months away doesn't mean anything. It was funny. Last night, I went to this big PTA, Parents Teacher Association, fundraiser for my daughter's school. It was at this Mexican restaurant local here. I was wearing my overkill shirt because I get home, I take off my dirty, disgusting t-shirt. Your dirty other overkill shirt.

01:00:15.620 --> 01:00:45.600
I put on my new one and then I went to this thing and I'm like oh like oh I see these kids I'm the soccer coaches I'm like what do parents think of me I'm wearing like a heavy metal shirt then I realized like I don't give a fuck does anybody else well I don't know how anybody else dresses at work but you know I'm in an office and so I wear like a polo or a button shirt or something and I always have a heavy metal shirt underneath so it's like my Superman kind of thing I'm like yes you don't know what I have underneath

01:00:45.620 --> 01:00:48.980
I get to be cash.

01:00:49.520 --> 01:00:50.420
Fridays I do.

01:00:52.240 --> 01:00:53.640
I'll use a heavy metal underneath.

01:00:55.320 --> 01:00:56.100
I just slowly

01:00:57.110 --> 01:00:58.340
grow out my hair again.

01:00:59.840 --> 01:01:01.200
I'm in the process now.

01:01:01.460 --> 01:01:03.120
Soon I'll have it long again.

01:01:03.680 --> 01:01:04.160
That'll be it.

01:01:05.380 --> 01:01:07.680
It's funny. I actually have this thing that I do at jobs.

01:01:08.180 --> 01:01:09.540
It's that I come looking real nice

01:01:09.760 --> 01:01:10.340
the first day.

01:01:12.390 --> 01:01:13.560
Until I slowly get to where I'm at now

01:01:13.590 --> 01:01:15.480
where I wear jeans and a t-shirt.

01:01:15.480 --> 01:01:45.400
And I know they did not notice this slow decline. And after all, I've been doing it for three years, so they can't say anything. Well, and speaking of Will's thing with the PTA, actually, when I mentioned earlier, I ran into this guy here about metal. It was at a fundraiser for my daughter's daycare. And I show up, and my wife made me dress up nice for it. And I show up, and there's this guy with long hair, a t-shirt, and he's wearing kind of tore-up jeans. And the back pocket of his jeans has an Iron Maiden patch.

01:01:46.220 --> 01:02:15.420
What? And I was like, fuck. It was the Number of the Beast, the devil and the marionette thing. And I was like, hey, dude, how's it going? And it's funny because this guy owns this vegan restaurant that's in town that's amazing. And my wife's like, you need to be friends with him. And you're like, okay. And I'm like, okay, I'll go to shows if you're forcing me.

01:02:15.500 --> 01:02:45.340
and stuff. But yeah, I walk up and I'm like, hey man, I see that Iron Maiden thing. I'm checking out your ass. I know. That's the thing. But it was funny because we were talking about bands and then I knew he was really metal, my kind of metal, when he was like, hey, we were kind of bouncing a couple bands off a little bit, more well known. And at one point he goes, do you know Tombs? And I was like, you're fucking awesome.

01:02:45.720 --> 01:03:15.460
And no one knows that band. And then I said, do you know they make coffee? Did he know? So John BT, you're a big Toombs fan? I do like Toombs, yeah. There's a bunch of people here that are a big Toombs fan, right? Yep. See? They're like his number one, I think, one year. See? It was mid-year, I think. Mid-year, yeah. But John's been listening for a while, too, and John has his own way of finding bands. But also John's a good example of somebody who listens to

01:03:15.480 --> 01:03:41.220
the show partially to get ideas about bands and stuff. So yeah. So yeah. So he, I usually have a mix of like these days. It's hard to like, with a three year old man, it's tough to find time to just sit down and look for bands. So honestly, I'm often listening to the show to find them or messaging Jay and be like, Hey, what are you actually listening to? Because like George listed 374 bands.

01:03:45.500 --> 01:03:49.360
And Matt listed two. Yeah. I want to check out Matt's, but

01:03:51.960 --> 01:03:55.700
because I didn't have a pencil and then George listed 300.

01:03:56.800 --> 01:03:59.200
I think today's going to be my biggest list ever.

01:04:00.200 --> 01:04:06.040
That's kind of long too. Oh, okay. Yeah. It's a rare day. All right. So,

01:04:07.120 --> 01:04:10.940
Einherjärs releasing a new album on November 9th, which is just around the corner.

01:04:11.010 --> 01:04:14.120
So I don't know why we're just learning this, or at least I'm just learning this.

01:04:14.900 --> 01:04:44.860
Three songs from the album can be found on YouTube, so I recommend you check it out. Well, I was going to say, I've never heard of this band before, so I'm like, I was thinking the same thing. We saw them at, well, I don't know if you were there, but they were at Death Fest a couple years ago. I thought the same thing, and I was like, I looked up all these other ones, I didn't look up them. So that's the one band, I'm like, I've never heard of these guys. They're super awesome. And I checked it out as I was doing some other stuff last

01:04:44.900 --> 01:05:13.860
I was like, oh, this is not bad. I kind of like it. Yeah. I planned to today, but I left my headphones at home. Yeah, I can already do that, but interesting. Since everybody's giving me a little stamp. All right. So, Ensephirum announced a North American tour with Septic Flesh, which kicks off in Baltimore on January 5th. I'm not a huge Ensephirum fan, particularly the last few albums, but it might interest me, particularly Septic Flesh there, because those guys are awesome.

01:05:15.460 --> 01:05:44.860
You are a big septic flesh man There's one thing I can say about you George You are a big septic flesh man No but I mean I know you to like them So that's always an interesting choice When it's the opening band you care about the most On the one hand it means you get to go home a little early if you want It's like if it was just Ensofirum and Gloryhammer Okay I'd go to Gloryhammer You know somebody I didn't care about I'd be like nah But to both of them I'm like maybe Now you gotta think about it Well I went to see Lamb of God with

01:05:44.900 --> 01:06:14.480
Corey Taylor's band called? No, no, no. Slipknot. Is that with Shadow's Fall? Balloonknot. I keep forgetting. And we were like, let's go see Lamb of God. We got free tickets. And we went to see it. And then we went to a bar. I was like, I don't need to go see. I do not need to watch Slipknot or whatever. Not at all. People in that band. It's good. It's only good for people watching. Or I should say. Lamb of God for free.

01:06:15.940 --> 01:06:44.860
If you want to find out what's selling at Hot Topic, go to a Slipknot show. Dude, that show was friggin' packed, too, and everyone was in a friggin' Slipknot shirt, and you were like, you just realized, like, holy shit. They're huge, yeah. They got a big following. Was that the tour of Shadows Fall, too? Shadows Fall, Lamb of God, Slipknot? It was, yeah. They played an arena here. I was there. No, it was like a stadium. It was an amphitheater thing with grass seats and all that, and it was

01:06:44.880 --> 01:07:14.740
Fully Packed. Absolutely. And I was just shocked. And in general, I'm like, well, the only thing I can say is that I've seen the stuff that Corey Taylor puts on his own festival and he invites other bands and stuff. And at least he realizes he fell into ridiculous success and he's trying to give it out to other people and stuff. I think you're right. He understands that, yeah. I don't get it. I don't get it. Plus, I liked his cover.

01:07:14.900 --> 01:07:44.300
on that Dio album, that Dio covers album. He did, uh, did he do, uh, rainbow in the dark and it was really good. So, so is anyone planning to see the queen movie, Bohemian Rhapsody, uh, coming out? I think it's next week. I'm not going to race to the theater, but I'll watch it when it comes out. Yeah. I'm a big queen fan, so I don't know if I'll see it in the theater. It's possible, but probably not.

01:07:44.900 --> 01:08:14.760
But I definitely want to see it. I have mixed feelings about music biopics, though. Because there's always something kind of canned about them, you know, obviously. They have to make it dramatic and stuff for Hollywood, so they're going to change things around. I mean, I would like to see it, but the chances of me actually going to see a movie that is not animated at this point in my life is zero point. You know, it's not, I don't know what kind of wide release,

01:08:14.900 --> 01:08:44.859
that's getting or anything, but that Mayhem movie is out too. Oh, is it? The Lords of Chaos movie? The Lords of Chaos? Well, let me rephrase that. I read a review of it on some site or another. It might have been a cult. I thought I saw a commercial for it playing in the other room. I ran in and caught it just like it was going off the screen. I was like, what was that? They gave a good review. What's the name of that? Cool. It's a cult. I can't

01:08:44.900 --> 01:08:53.160
I am thinking about going to the show

01:08:53.830 --> 01:08:58.859
or to see the movie because I might do a date night with my wife

01:08:59.040 --> 01:09:02.880
and spring for a shitload on daycare and make a movie

01:09:03.140 --> 01:09:05.279
cost like a hundred bucks

01:09:06.900 --> 01:09:09.859
which I'm sure is why Will doesn't go see movies that aren't animated

01:09:10.580 --> 01:09:14.859
because they're really freaking expensive when you realize you're paying for daycare to go see a movie

01:09:16.280 --> 01:09:44.799
And John, you're talking about the Queen movie, John? Yeah, the Queen movie. Not the black metal movie. I don't think my wife's going to go to the black metal movie. She is very much in the camp of the reason why Jay and I used to talk about being hesitant about bringing up metal and then we need to just screw it and embrace it. Because it's like some people are like, oh, it's so childish, whatever. Yeah, you know. They guys know all too well.

01:09:45.560 --> 01:09:49.720
But I actually we did another date night recently where we went to

01:09:50.400 --> 01:09:53.799
there's this like science center in town and we went and took our daughter

01:09:54.700 --> 01:09:57.260
and the fun play stuff you know whatever but they have a

01:09:57.260 --> 01:09:59.180
By the way if you take your daughter it's not called date night

01:09:59.740 --> 01:10:02.620
No this was a separate thing this was a we took her to this

01:10:02.920 --> 01:10:06.100
my daughter to the science center and then I was there and they have a planetarium there

01:10:06.640 --> 01:10:10.020
and I noticed that on Saturdays they do these nighttime

01:10:10.820 --> 01:10:13.980
planetarium laser shows and whatever and to

01:10:14.000 --> 01:10:15.480
various music things.

01:10:16.300 --> 01:10:18.740
And the next week they were doing Queen.

01:10:19.640 --> 01:10:21.220
And I am a big Queen fan.

01:10:21.660 --> 01:10:21.800
Yeah.

01:10:22.020 --> 01:10:27.320
And so I didn't tell her we were doing that because there's a brewery right next to it.

01:10:27.340 --> 01:10:29.060
And we went to the brewery and hung out.

01:10:29.260 --> 01:10:31.800
And then I was like, oh, we have these tickets.

01:10:31.980 --> 01:10:33.060
We need to go to this thing.

01:10:33.880 --> 01:10:34.720
And it was pretty cool.

01:10:34.900 --> 01:10:35.300
It's genius.

01:10:36.100 --> 01:10:40.000
Then when we got there, she saw that a month later they're doing Michael Jackson.

01:10:40.240 --> 01:10:41.620
She's like, well, we should have done that one.

01:10:43.920 --> 01:11:12.620
I couldn't get tickets, sweetheart. Do not take your dog to the Michael Jackson one. So, first there was the Mega Cruise. Well, let's just say first it was announced, because it hasn't happened yet. And now there is Kegadeth, Dave Mustaine Metal and Craft Beer Fest, and I kind of wonder where he got that idea. Yeah, I wonder.

01:11:13.320 --> 01:11:42.920
You know, first off, the Mega Cruise lineup is weak, if you ask me. Not that I would go anyway. No offense to Dave. But I'll pay attention, see what he does with his beer thing. It'll probably just be two or three. You know what I mean? They won't go crazy. Maybe they'll even just serve Megadeth beer. Yeah. Only the Unibroo. That's it, yeah. I was just talking to my brother-in-law in town. He's a big metalhead, too. And we were just talking about Megadeth last night. And just like,

01:11:43.980 --> 01:11:47.180
It's like one of those bands that

01:11:47.630 --> 01:11:49.060
as soon as they almost make

01:11:49.590 --> 01:11:51.440
a decent comeback album or something

01:11:51.740 --> 01:11:52.900
he fires everyone

01:11:55.760 --> 01:11:58.400
They did that Unified of Abominations

01:11:58.580 --> 01:11:59.120
and it was decent

01:11:59.500 --> 01:12:00.160
and then it was like

01:12:01.280 --> 01:12:02.140
all crap

01:12:03.160 --> 01:12:05.100
he just can't be with anybody good

01:12:08.080 --> 01:12:10.599
Alright, let's move on to new releases

01:12:20.160 --> 01:12:38.920
And try and blow through almost all of these quickly. Which we are, just so you know, John, BT, John, our other John has to get up early in the morning and travel. That's why we're scooting. I gotta get up early too. I gotta get up early too. I have a three-year-old who gets up early.

01:12:40.600 --> 01:13:10.140
All right. So first new release, Behemoth, I Loved You at Your Darkest, their 11th album. Let's get some opinions on that. I mean, I know some of these opinions. I want to hear about. I think it's as good as the Satanist. Yeah? I think you're wrong. Well, that's because of the children. But I want to point out to you, they're not singing, they're chanting. And I know it comes around again. It doesn't bother me, but it comes around again. It's just a kind of a coda to the previous or, you know,

01:13:11.420 --> 01:13:37.460
I love it. I think it's got Decibel was like it needs hooks. It's got hooks all over it. I don't know what Decibel is talking about. I think it's a super strong record. I think it's pretty good. There you go. I need to listen to more. I'm more of an Emperor fan. I'm with you there. Fair enough. Yeah, fair enough. I've been trying. They're one of those bands that when they bust through with you, they bust through with you. And I don't know, maybe it helps if you get a free haircut. Yeah. It helps. I'm joking.

01:13:40.200 --> 01:14:08.620
Or if they gave me a free haircut and a shitload of beer. But I really do like it and I really was a big fan of the Satanists. I dig it. I honestly think, and this is my, if they just would have cut out the kids singing at the end of the first song and beginning of the second song, it would have been a totally different album for me. It's so distracting and so, it reminds me just of Machine Head. What about the... I knew you were going to say that.

01:14:10.680 --> 01:14:40.160
I knew you were gonna I just like and I love kids I got kids it's just that machine was bad when they did that well Matt what do you think of it I know you're kind of a Nurgle fan aren't you I am and I really do like it I like I I understand what you're saying with the with the kids singing thing but from my perspective I don't know I I just feel like Behemoth and probably more so Nurgle in general he's just he feels like such an artistic person by that I mean he's very

01:14:45.900 --> 01:14:51.840
He's a lot of it on this album, but

01:14:53.320 --> 01:14:55.800
it just is not bothering me. I'm enjoying it quite a bit.

01:14:56.460 --> 01:15:01.240
If you decide to bring in an Ooppa band and some bagpipes, for artistic reasons, would you be cool with that too?

01:15:01.320 --> 01:15:04.800
Hey, Stuart is a Scottish name, and we will play those pipes all night long.

01:15:05.160 --> 01:15:05.480
Word!

01:15:06.080 --> 01:15:08.660
You will blow on those pipes all night long.

01:15:37.080 --> 01:15:38.880
I like it.

01:15:42.320 --> 01:16:07.360
He definitely has some points of view. He's definitely against a lot of organizations. But he's a super positive person. And I don't know. Once I started following his Instagram account and you kind of see his day-to-day life. I mean, I was already a behemoth fan. But you look at a guy who went through a rough time in his life. And I feel like he completely embraced life when he came out of the leukemia. After he was kind of cleared out of leukemia. I don't know. It's just been very... I saw him on the Satanist tour twice.

01:16:08.900 --> 01:16:37.860
blown away by those shows, was just blown away by his persona. And I mean the band in itself, because I don't want to discredit them, but he's obviously the one who kind of is in front of things. But it's just kind of the aura and all of that. We have, taking the words right out of my mouth, man, we have the exact same view on him. And I follow him too. And I enjoy seeing how he's done. Yeah, absolutely. Absolutely. So would you rank this as one of his best albums? Or just sort of like,

01:16:38.900 --> 01:17:08.800
It's behemoth. They don't make bad stuff. I guess I'll just say it. The way I look at it is I like this album, but his previous albums were way better. There's some really good, great songs on this, but there's some things that are just completely distracting me. I think the Satanist to me was just unbelievable. It's not the Satanist. I don't think it's so different, but I will say this. With that stated, it's definitely their most accessible record. There's no question.

01:17:09.000 --> 01:17:38.880
about that. Sure. I'm going to find a sound effect. And if you go back a couple records, yeah, it's the most accessible. I'm going to find a sound effect of children singing so that I can play that when Rale's talking. Yeah. But I mean, here, I mean, you can, because if you go back a couple of records, dude, like before the Satanist, I mean, they've changed a lot, you know, just their change has agreed with me. I still think they're super heavy and super focused. Yeah. I can't wait to, they're here, November, blah, blah, blah. And I can't

01:17:38.920 --> 01:17:43.700
November 10th and then I'm going to you Kiara because will remind me they're in town so thanks

01:17:44.140 --> 01:17:52.040
dude I would love to see them I'm so good I mean I just might be prepared to just be completely blown away and

01:17:52.190 --> 01:17:56.860
entertain because they they know how to put on a show yeah still to this day one of the best shows ever at

01:17:56.860 --> 01:18:01.700
Atlas I would agree I saw him a couple years ago in town and then I missed their last one you you had brought it up on

01:18:01.860 --> 01:18:07.140
Twitter and I was kicking myself and now unfortunately I will probably miss their set but I told my old and beers for

01:18:07.160 --> 01:18:12.000
missing their last show and that's you know that's all i care about so so i'm checking the

01:18:12.260 --> 01:18:37.120
behemoth tour dates and they're going to houston of course but not nashville and actually i'll point out that for that slayer show i couldn't make it to the houston one because i was moving that week and that was the behemoth and then i went to the nashville one and saw napalm death napalm death yeah and while that's fine i honestly am not the biggest

01:18:37.120 --> 01:19:07.100
I like Napalm Death. I like some of their stuff. But I'm not. It's weird. Like I like my punk and I like my metal and I'm not a huge crossover person. Sure. I like the two minutes and stuff and whatever. But although I do like Pig Destroyer. I don't know. It's like unique. But the but like, yeah, I was really looking forward to seeing Behemoth. I'd never seen them. I thought that might be the thing that kind of clicked it. And I, I really

01:19:07.960 --> 01:19:37.100
Honestly, though, having seen the Slayer show, the first three bands had terrible sound. Or maybe it was two. So Napalm Death and Testament had the worst sound. Followed by... Anthrax. Oh yeah, Anthrax also had terrible sound. And then Lamb of God, the sound got fixed. Followed by Slayer, who had great sound and stuff. And I was like, if that would have been the case, I probably wouldn't have liked it.

01:19:37.140 --> 01:20:06.280
I liked it anyway. That's how it goes. But I would have liked to see them over Napalm Death. They'll get your chance. I was going to say, yeah, this is just the first leg. So hopefully. They'll tour a lot. Hopefully, yeah. But moving on to, I'm sorry to cut us off, but I wanted to honor George's. Let's move through these because there's at least one more or two more we've got to stop and talk about a little bit. Yeah. So the next one is Castle and their fifth album, Deal Thy Fate.

01:20:07.140 --> 01:20:13.820
Doom Band. I've only listened to this a little bit so far, but I like what I heard so far.

01:20:15.900 --> 01:20:17.700
Eh. I got nothing.

01:20:18.560 --> 01:20:19.300
All right, well then let's...

01:20:19.300 --> 01:20:20.220
I listen, eh.

01:20:22.800 --> 01:20:23.640
I, uh, well...

01:20:23.680 --> 01:20:28.380
Not a bad example. I'm not the biggest Doom fan. I have very specific Doom bands I like.

01:20:29.240 --> 01:20:30.420
And that's it, so...

01:20:30.540 --> 01:20:30.960
Fair enough.

01:20:32.980 --> 01:20:34.700
Um, well this next one's pretty cool.

01:20:35.040 --> 01:21:04.720
Glacial Tomb is releasing their self-titled full-length debut. That is, of course, featuring Ben Hutcherson from Chemists. Anybody like that one? Yes. Yes. Listen to it this morning. Good stuff? Yes. Okay. I haven't heard it enough to it. I'll make a note. I think it's pretty good. Could be a lister. Maybe. It was in the box? Yeah, it's in the box. The tip? Then we've got,

01:21:05.020 --> 01:21:33.340
How do you say that? Go Rod? Sure. I actually like this album. Yeah? It's their sixth album. It's called Aethra. I know John was listening to this. Yeah, I mean, it's different than their last one. It's a little more straightforward. The last one had a little more fusion to their sound, but it's, and I'm not a tech death guy, but this is a little more accessible tech death, I guess. A little more progier tech death, I guess you could say. I thought it was alright. Yeah.

01:21:33.440 --> 01:21:56.520
I also don't really get into tech death stuff, but it had a proggy bit to it that, you know, that kind of bits from like symbolic era death or something. I mean, I only put it on because of this list, and I was like, oh, this is pretty good. So I'd say, you know, if you want some kind of proggy tech death, go check it out.

01:21:56.600 --> 01:22:25.040
Yeah. This next one, the new Haiti Turtle upon Desolate Sands, technically doesn't release for two more days. And we haven't got a promo, so I've only heard the songs online. So I like those. I'm looking forward to it. You know, what's funny about Haiti Turtle is they're kind of like one of those old school, not quite old school, but, you know, Tampa, Florida death metal band. And I just never really paid attention to them.

01:22:25.100 --> 01:22:52.180
But I checked out the two songs that they have on Bandcamp. I really like them. I may have to go back and check out the entire back catalog. They're pretty good. I mean, like, I kind of followed them back in their earlier days and then sort of fell out for a while. But those, like, I remember the first couple albums, I think it was like Conjuring something, whatever, but like, were just fantastic.

01:22:55.100 --> 01:23:25.000
Death Metal Band. This is Eric Routine. Yes. Yeah. I have not heard them, but I love him, and I feel he does good work producing and actually performing. Yeah, he's a great producer. He did the last Tombs album. Yeah. I remember the interview. Yeah. So this next one is a return of a band from the 80s, Air Apparent, The View From Below. I have not listened to this, but I expect that John has, because he's the one that brought it up to me.

01:23:26.200 --> 01:23:54.720
Yeah, and I knew who they were, but I never really listened to them again because it's been 30 years since their last album. But their album that came out in 1989, and the title's escaping me right now, unfortunately, was pretty well regarded in the prog metal world. It's called One Small Voice. So I didn't know who they were, so I checked out the album, and I liked it. I thought it was all right, and then the new one came out. I guess that's the only reason why I was seeing it on Bandcamp, because the new one was coming out.

01:23:54.760 --> 01:24:24.520
I thought it was a decent album. I liked it. But it has a very late 80s prog metal sound. So it's not a keyboard driven, you know, wankery type thing. It's more guitar driven. So wankery. So this is reminiscent to me of like bands like Cynic that kind of vanished forever. And then I used to swear to tell people, dude, you got to listen to Cynic. They're the best. They're amazing. And then they came back and like, I don't need them to have come back.

01:24:24.760 --> 01:24:52.960
I prefer to be in this awesome band. Go away again. Amazing album, like the best death metal album back in the 90s. And out of nowhere, they come back and they're like, oh yeah, now we're this prog thing. We're basically like modern Opeth. All right, next we've got the new High on Fire album, Electric Messiah. Yeah, this one sucks. I tell ya.

01:24:56.200 --> 01:25:24.740
I'll tell you this man and I think I'm the resident expert I don't know I mean but I do have every record and first of all I would say the last one kind of let me down even though I know some you guys like I like the one before that was okay this one is like a mix between snakes for the divine and death is this communion and like honestly this is one of the most obsessively listenable things that's come out in the last six months for me and I that's

01:25:24.760 --> 01:25:53.640
I don't know where it's going to be on my list so it's going to be high. This is their best record. They're 20 years into their career and they've just made what I consider to be their best record. I don't know if I would say it's their best record but I completely agree with you whereas this is my this is by far my favorite album since Snakes of the Divine. Matt's doing a lot of different stuff on this. I'm sorry I didn't mean to interrupt but he's taking a lot of weird new directions with some of his riffing and stuff like that but it's still super high on fire.

01:25:54.240 --> 01:26:24.220
It's super high energized and it's also they have a lot of stuff where they have like these kind of connecting parts between songs which kind of used to happen with and they're not just these kind of straightforward four minute songs. I don't know how to explain it. I'm loving this record. Yeah, my brother-in-law Matt he like he's a huge High on Fire fan and I texted him when it came out. I was like, dude, you gotta listen to this album. It's unbelievable. And he paused for

01:26:24.240 --> 01:26:54.220
I think he took a week or two maybe it was because he the last couple were just kind of not as you know it's like it's like when you know Metallica turned to shit or something you know it's like not turning to shit but like you could see the writing on the wall they're a little used up but man they like this album and he texted me the other day he's like holy shit this is fucking amazing and that's all he's been listening to and and I'm the same like this album

01:26:56.540 --> 01:27:24.220
I'm not a huge High on Fire fan. I liked the last one. I went back and got into a lot of the earlier ones and really like them. But man, this album just clicked right away. The sound, the heavy, fasty vocals. It's heavy. It's got extra pepper on it somehow. Anyway, highly, definitely going to be a real high lister for me for sure. So then there's this next one that I'm sure

01:27:24.260 --> 01:27:54.220
we're going to talk about a little bit. Also sucks, right? Yeah. The new horrendous album, Idol, their fourth album. I'm going to throw this one to Will to start. I like it a lot, but I have to, you know, full disclosure. I, as we know, we interviewed the band at the last decibel, Philly, the decibel metal beer Philly Fest. But, but like, so I knew Alex from the

01:27:54.240 --> 01:28:24.200
And then I got to know Matt. Because he came to Atlas one night. And then we were just watching a band together. And hanging out. And they're playing Atlas in a couple. In like two weeks. They're playing Atlas on Veterans Day. And they. I think I could spill the beans on this. Adroit Theory. Is having a fifth anniversary party. And they're going to incorporate a metal band.

01:28:24.260 --> 01:28:54.140
Show. Horrendous is headlining. It's in January. Is this at Adroit? It's at Adroit. Nice and close. Yes. I'm in charge of finding the other two bands. Thross and Blot. Yeah, I second that. But they have to do metal. I mean, I love the new one, but whatever. So I will say, Jay, I think I could say this.

01:28:56.120 --> 01:29:23.940
Catatonic Society? No, no, no. Pyrus from Philly. Really? Are they out by you guys? They're in Philly. And I was this close, and I'm holding my fingers about an inch apart, just got the word today from them that they cannot do it. I'm sorry to hear that. Yeah. But I was thinking of you, Jay, because I thought maybe he'll just fly out here.

01:29:26.320 --> 01:29:54.220
I love that record yeah Lewis Lewis was super awesome and he said hey look we could do it except our drummers double booked so but anyway horrendous is going to play the adroit headline the adroit fifth anniversary show where is it gonna Saturday Saturday January 26th and if I can get my shit together I need to find two other opening bands where are they gonna play because they can't play

01:29:54.220 --> 01:30:23.140
in the brewery. And in January, it's going to be a little cold to be outside. Not with that attitude. Whoa. Anyway, I'm really, I listen to this album a lot. Horrendous Idol. I'm digging it. You know, I came into it, I expected to like it, and I do a lot, because I loved the last one, too. But I read a review in Decibel, and they made it sound like the clean vocals were going to, like, eat my guts out.

01:30:24.240 --> 01:30:54.020
And I don't know what the hell they were talking about. No, and they're also not at all unpalatable. I don't know. I have no idea what this reviewer and Decibel had a problem with. And that's it. That's my only comment, except that I dig it. I think it's great. It's a really good record. I didn't know about that aspect of the Decibel review, but I can't see why that would be a problem on this album. It's a non-issue in my mind. And the album's really good.

01:30:54.060 --> 01:30:55.260
and enjoyable all the way through.

01:30:56.820 --> 01:31:19.020
The review actually wraps up something to the effect of, like, this is a really great, it's a good record, you would expect as much from them. If they had just been a little more careful with those clean vocals, it would be rated. I mean, yeah, it was such a weird, I was like, and then I hadn't heard it yet, and then I went and listened to it about a week later, and I was like, what the fuck is this guy talking about? So, anyway. Which is not, doesn't say my opinion enough, I like it. I think it's a quite good record.

01:31:19.100 --> 01:31:49.040
Yeah. All right. Moving on. We have the new album from Infestus Thripsis. It's their fifth album. It's a German black metal band. I've been looking forward to this one for a couple of years and I was not disappointed. It's good. Yeah. I really dug their last album, The Reflecting Void. I'm going to be giving this one a lot more listens, I think, in the next month or two before year end. You know, it's interesting. I never heard this band before.

01:31:49.140 --> 01:32:18.920
And then we have this Facebook Messenger post with all of us that's been going on for years and years and years that hopefully never gets disclosed to the public. But in this. Why so many penises? I like dicks. Wow, that was just like the quote. I like dicks. See, that was awfully close. Let me clarify. I like dicks.

01:32:19.140 --> 01:32:48.840
Oh, let's see. Okay, yeah. That kind of brings it home. But anyway, somebody put in this, because there are a lot, like, if you have not heard of Infestus, I-N-F-E-S-T-U-S, there are a lot, they're very similar to Behemoth, and they're sort of, like, accessible black metal ways, and somebody put on this, who put that map on the messenger? It was basically Nazis. Yeah, that was me.

01:32:49.080 --> 01:33:18.600
Oh, yeah. Pretty sure it was Jewish. Yeah, because I was comparing Infestus to Behemoth, and Infestus is German and Behemoth is Polish, and I was just like, this is the German band is crushing the Polish band, like, you know, invading an invasion of Poland, which I know I was dancing on the edge of impropriety there. I think I actually probably stepped over that line. No, you're just dancing on the edge of historical facts. Well, yes, but, you know, I certainly don't condone the Nazis.

01:33:18.720 --> 01:33:25.100
If you think Infestus is better than Behemoth, but if you're comparing your last albums, I don't know. Infestus is pretty good.

01:33:27.120 --> 01:33:37.880
Let's move on to Marsh Dweller. They just released their second album, Wanderer. He, apparently, I think it's a one-man project. I didn't really care for the first album all that much.

01:33:37.880 --> 01:33:38.820
That's a lot like our love lives.

01:33:39.360 --> 01:33:42.860
But this one's growing on me a little more, so I don't know.

01:33:44.080 --> 01:33:46.080
I'm liking it. Not loving it, but liking it.

01:33:46.940 --> 01:33:48.240
I thought it was fine.

01:33:48.320 --> 01:33:49.260
I enjoyed it.

01:33:49.360 --> 01:33:54.420
I think the newest issue with Decibel reviewed this.

01:33:55.400 --> 01:33:55.640
Yes.

01:33:56.580 --> 01:33:57.460
I think it got an eight.

01:34:01.940 --> 01:34:02.900
All right, moving on.

01:34:04.440 --> 01:34:06.900
Jay, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think this is Slate.

01:34:08.440 --> 01:34:14.400
I don't know because you guys, as my oft-mentioned iPod, the SwimPod,

01:34:15.200 --> 01:34:17.360
since it's a shuffle, you have to push a button and know what you're listening to,

01:34:17.460 --> 01:34:46.460
I just put this record on and I was like, what is this? Because it's got like 20 records on it. And it said Slate. Okay, so your Siri told you the pronunciation. But it's probably a very literal pronunciation. But I call them Slate. I don't trust Apple for crap, but whatever. It's S-L-A-E-G-T. It's their third album called The Wheel. They're Danish metal. I don't know. What'd you call them, Jay?

01:34:47.680 --> 01:35:17.400
I mean, there's a little black and roll, dark and fresh, old school kind of Marshall, JMC 800 amps. I mean, so they're a little bit retro in the smallest sort of way. So metal, metal encyclopedia, or encyclopedia medallum calls them black metal early, black slash heavy metal later. That's helpful. I'm curious what Jay thinks. I actually had to run out and go upstairs and say,

01:35:18.740 --> 01:35:25.600
I wanted to get back in time for this album because I really like this one.

01:35:26.570 --> 01:35:29.020
But I also really like the previous one.

01:35:29.210 --> 01:35:31.400
And I know Jay loves the previous one.

01:35:31.820 --> 01:35:32.020
Yeah.

01:35:33.320 --> 01:35:34.320
It's still settling with me.

01:35:34.320 --> 01:35:35.340
I'm not sure where I stand on it.

01:35:35.400 --> 01:35:35.860
I like it.

01:35:35.940 --> 01:35:36.180
It's good.

01:35:36.260 --> 01:35:37.480
I don't have any problems with it.

01:35:37.490 --> 01:35:43.440
But I don't know if I like it better than Domus Mysterio, which was my number one at the mid-year in that year, whatever it was.

01:35:44.000 --> 01:35:44.680
It fell.

01:35:45.160 --> 01:35:46.120
I don't remember.

01:35:46.640 --> 01:35:48.880
It fell in your late part

01:35:49.960 --> 01:35:51.840
Some of the people came back and had a strong year

01:35:52.680 --> 01:35:55.220
It didn't fall so much as other things just jumped over it

01:35:55.720 --> 01:35:57.100
I like it, I dig it

01:35:57.140 --> 01:35:58.320
I know Matt's been getting into it

01:35:58.860 --> 01:36:00.600
I think George digs it

01:36:01.840 --> 01:36:02.780
It's making me

01:36:03.120 --> 01:36:05.020
A band is popping into my brain

01:36:05.380 --> 01:36:07.720
I can't think of their name, but they had an album called Sister

01:36:08.660 --> 01:36:09.480
Yeah, dude

01:36:10.860 --> 01:36:11.300
Insolitude

01:36:12.060 --> 01:36:13.760
Yes, thank you

01:36:14.620 --> 01:36:43.740
I think they called it like trad or traditional metal and I feel like I got vibes of that off of this album which I really liked I I paid premium price to get a copy of uh sister on vinyl I love that record dude I did not get it at first and then I listened to it and then I was like so scared that I had not been listening to it the entire time it was hard to look at myself in the mirror but what's it called in solitude is the name of the band else called sister was their last record they brought

01:36:45.280 --> 01:36:50.880
I'm going to check it out because I waited until this was one of the late

01:36:51.760 --> 01:37:01.680
checkouts on this list and I didn't check it out until last night when I was walking my dog and we ended up on a much longer walk than expected because I had listened to the whole album.

01:37:02.000 --> 01:37:02.420
That's great.

01:37:03.200 --> 01:37:12.020
And I liked it and I put it off because one, I was also trying to deal with stuff with the list this week.

01:37:12.380 --> 01:37:12.460
Yeah.

01:37:14.040 --> 01:37:20.040
But which, by the way, I chose this list to punish all of you. So I hope it was as punishing as it turned out for me.

01:37:23.080 --> 01:37:26.380
And but anyway, this this was really good.

01:37:26.390 --> 01:37:27.520
It was really enjoyable.

01:37:27.720 --> 01:37:30.040
And I can see that I'm going to listen to it a lot more.

01:37:30.940 --> 01:37:34.540
Just as much as the Insolitude, they'll go back and get their last record, Domus Mysterium.

01:37:34.680 --> 01:37:34.940
It's called.

01:37:35.320 --> 01:37:35.660
No, no, no.

01:37:35.800 --> 01:37:37.240
I mean, I love Domus Mysterium.

01:37:37.330 --> 01:37:38.100
I mean, oh, that's right.

01:37:38.160 --> 01:37:38.360
I'm sorry.

01:37:38.420 --> 01:37:38.900
You already said that.

01:37:39.180 --> 01:37:39.580
No, sorry.

01:37:39.840 --> 01:37:41.540
That was I mean, that was a thing.

01:37:41.600 --> 01:38:08.980
And actually, I need to, because I haven't had, I lost, I forgot my headphones today. I didn't get to, I meant to go listen to that again today so I could make the honest comparison. I think Domus Mysterium, I think probably is still, still better, but, but I mean, there's no, this is a great album. It's great. It's in heavy contention for my list. I'd be surprised if it's not. Cool. I mean, you're doing what, 50 this year, right? 65, I think.

01:38:10.060 --> 01:38:40.040
It's a two-parter and you're gonna publish it on vinyl? Yeah. It's gonna be like an eight-tuplet vinyl or something like that. Anyway, A Storm of Light Anthro Scene, their fifth album. It's kind of a doomy post-rock. I've always kind of been like, are they metal? Are they not metal? I don't know. I think they're pretty metal. I really like this album a lot. So I highly recommend it. But... So they're like not...

01:38:41.300 --> 01:39:10.040
I didn't check this one out. Isn't it kind of metal? I think this album is definitely more metal than some of the past stuff perhaps. I mean it's doom. Let me see what he's saying is that it's metal enough they'll put on the list but if I put clutch on my list I'm ostracized. Dude this album okay so we didn't. This is a lot heavier than clutch. That's about clutch this year but I will say this is this this year's clutch was frigging good. I forgot to tell you Will he's a big

01:39:10.040 --> 01:39:40.020
I'm not a lot of fans. No, no, no, we know. But you guys like to spend a little time together. I was waiting, but I mean, I thought this year's was, I like the direction they went this time. I love how much they change every album and whatever. If you put it on this list, you are banned from the podcast, but because it's not metal. Speaking of not metal, we have our last new release. And that is the new Thross and Blot album, Great Brunswick Forest, Joel's fourth album. If you haven't gone and listened

01:39:40.080 --> 01:40:09.800
to the previous episode where I go to Canada and sit around a campfire with Joel and interview him and he plays some songs. You should probably go listen to that because it's pretty awesome. As is this album, which is debatably metal. It's an acoustic album, but just because it's acoustic doesn't mean it's not metal. George, you just stated it was not metal. And now you're walking back from your bottom line. I said that as because I was expecting that from you guys. But, you know.

01:40:09.860 --> 01:40:39.840
Oh, you're going to expect it from me because I was obliterated, eviscerated. You were mildly chastised. It was like a little slap on the chip of your pee pee. Hold on. We're stirring John's pot here. I'd really like to hear what he has to say. It's the first thing that's really moved him into motion. Yeah. As a guest, I think that I'm going to just say, like, I understand the fanboyness of this thing with Joel and whatever, with George, but

01:40:39.860 --> 01:41:08.560
I don't think you can put this on your list. And I freaking love this album. I agreed with that until I sat down and talked with him about it. I have heard the demos for this album, which were black metal. No. Okay. I'm sorry, but that's not the album. Right. But the fact is that the songwriting is still metal, but it's played on an acoustic guitar.

01:41:09.860 --> 01:41:39.820
the BG's album? Oh my god, it was brutal back in the 70s. I'm just saying, the music of the songs are metal, whether they are played on acoustic instruments or electric instruments. I watched the black metal version of Toto's Africa on YouTube, and that doesn't prove that that song is metal. Where's my screw you guys sound effect? That's quite a good point. I'm just saying, I freaking love it. I think it has

01:41:39.860 --> 01:42:09.480
has these metal aspects. It's amazing. I don't think you can put it justifiably on the list. And I also don't think Clutch, in the last 10 years, maybe 15, should be allowed on the list. I guess we'll just have to wait and see until December. But I have to think George has said a little bit because I put Pelander's time record on my list a couple years ago. And then also,

01:42:11.100 --> 01:42:12.640
I still stand up for the

01:42:12.780 --> 01:42:14.640
Demircore, which I put on last year too.

01:42:15.920 --> 01:42:16.980
So I'm more

01:42:17.120 --> 01:42:18.860
with George's philosophy here and not just so

01:42:18.920 --> 01:42:20.680
I can sneak in a few records that aren't quite men.

01:42:20.740 --> 01:42:22.980
No, no, no. Fuck all you guys.

01:42:23.520 --> 01:42:25.220
Fuck every single goddamn one of you.

01:42:25.720 --> 01:42:26.960
The pretty cool I got

01:42:27.120 --> 01:42:28.000
for putting Clutch,

01:42:28.860 --> 01:42:30.620
Psychic Warfare as my number one album.

01:42:31.720 --> 01:42:32.880
You guys can all go to hell.

01:42:33.160 --> 01:42:33.800
Go fuck yourself.

01:42:36.200 --> 01:42:36.980
Thank you.

01:42:37.400 --> 01:42:38.440
Any, any

01:42:38.460 --> 01:43:08.320
of your borderline metal bands like Leprous, John, or Meekover. Will, you really don't want to go down this route. I'm going down every band I listen to. You bitch about every band I listen to. Just fucking settle down. You need a referee's whistle. I love this record. I actually really love this record, and I was saying earlier that there's so many earworms. I've been listening to this record nonstop.

01:43:08.460 --> 01:43:09.580
It's just not metal

01:43:10.860 --> 01:43:11.900
It's amazing

01:43:13.260 --> 01:43:14.100
It's phenomenal

01:43:14.660 --> 01:43:17.040
We're going to do our top 5 albums now

01:43:17.520 --> 01:43:18.740
John BT

01:43:19.540 --> 01:43:21.840
gave us the topic of

01:43:22.380 --> 01:43:24.860
top 5 albums from the last 5 years

01:43:25.040 --> 01:43:26.940
2013 through 2017

01:43:28.300 --> 01:43:29.260
We're going to start

01:43:29.260 --> 01:43:31.340
with him and then work our way

01:43:31.500 --> 01:43:32.640
around 5 down to 1

01:43:32.640 --> 01:43:34.260
I'm sure John you know how this works

01:43:35.460 --> 01:43:37.260
So get us started

01:43:38.060 --> 01:44:07.220
So I chose this, I want to say, partially because I actually listened to this other board gaming podcast. And they do their top list every year. And then every year, the next episode, they do the top of the year, five years back. And then they do the 10 years or whatever. But they're looking back and stuff. And I was always thinking like, oh, yeah, these guys, they're always listening to their new things.

01:44:07.800 --> 01:44:37.200
But like how do those other albums stand up? So I was like, oh, I'm gonna do top five of the last five years. And then I was like, oh shit. As I put together this list, I kept thinking, this is my number five. Yeah. How is this my number five album? And so my philosophy is I looked at my Google Playlist because I use Google Play for everything. Play music. And I check my number of plays. And that's kind of what guided me in a way.

01:44:37.280 --> 01:45:05.040
to putting together this list. Although my top album that came out in the last five years for plays was the Moana soundtrack. Oh yeah, I get that a lot. Thank you. You're welcome. You're welcome. I am Moana. Dude, 63 plays all the way through. Oh, that's it? My daughter's three. Sure.

01:45:07.280 --> 01:45:35.120
Literally, that's in the last year. I really know that album. Admin note, we need to speed this up. Number five. Amorphous, Under a Red Cloud. Oh, cool. Worthy. This album, I looked at it, this is actually my most played album of that time period.

01:45:37.260 --> 01:46:07.240
I have this album actually I'm shocked that it's there actually I was gonna wear the t-shirt but I wore it yesterday it felt it sort of is it five because it sort of falls to what I call the Iron Maiden Brave New World issue which is I listen to it so much that I don't want to listen to it as much anymore all the way through but but this album is just unbelievable

01:46:07.280 --> 01:46:36.760
And I think it's their top, like their pinnacle. Cool. Matt. I have had a resurgence for my number five. I think mainly in part because this band was at Maryland Death Fest this past year, an event that I was nowhere even remotely close to, but I still felt a need to keep to listen to Wormrot and their album Voices. Oh, yeah. I don't even know what that guy is saying when he sings. Exactly.

01:46:37.260 --> 01:47:06.520
All I remember, just real quick, us hearing him and me looking over at these guys like, is that a voice? But it was pretty intense, though. Yes. I thought they ended up canceling MDF or something. Something happened like that. They lost equipment. I'm thinking of somebody else. All right. John. So just real quick on my list.

01:47:07.040 --> 01:47:36.680
George and I were talking about this during the week. You know, did you pick one from each year? Did you go with all your number ones? And I decided to blow up all my number ones because it's not that I don't like them anymore. I just don't listen to them as much. I was hoping you guys would do that because I wanted to know what you guys actually listened to and revisited. So yeah, that's cool. And this is a band that I found out after 2015, but I probably would have put them on the list. I know we mentioned them a long time ago,

01:47:36.800 --> 01:48:05.840
And I know Yanni from Perihelm Ship City checked them out because I mentioned them, which I guess it's only because they're from Finland. But the band is called Pressure Points. The album's called False Light. They're a prog death metal band. Liked it a lot. Probably would have been high on my list had I heard it in 2015 on time. Oh, those missed chances. I looked this up after he mentioned that. And this is a good album. So if you know anything about my number ones, you'd know that.

01:48:05.900 --> 01:48:35.020
I've already blown up a year so. Alright, Will. My number ones are not going to be much of a surprise because I did not have a lot of time to throw this together so I just basically picked my number ones for the last couple years. However, there is one, the 2013 album that we, I was not on the podcast for and I did switch up my number, my 2015 album. So I'll just go,

01:48:35.880 --> 01:49:05.860
My number five, which would be my 2013 album, was Pyres, Years of Sleep. Nice. A doom band out of Toronto, which they have not put out anything since then, but holy shit, I fucking love that album. Nice. I brewed a lot of beer to that album. Nice. All right, Jay. Well, just to John VT, a few, I'd be very surprised if our number one is not the same, because I think I know what your number one is, and I did not choose mine as an honor to you. So we'll see when we

01:49:07.440 --> 01:49:35.860
I had missed this release and it would have been way up on my list if I had been smart enough to caught it but I kind of stepped away from this band for a couple of years but now I think I went back got this record long story short one of the better bands working today Sog Memento Mori I was wondering if you were going to go with that it's so good it's so good they're like one of the great underrated bands so no more common need be said but it's great all right that's you

01:49:36.660 --> 01:50:04.140
This album reminded me of them, and it was great that you brought this up before. It's killer, right? Yeah, no, this is a good album. Anybody should look this up. Yeah. My number five, Swallow the Sun, Songs from the North, one, two, three. I wondered if you put that on here. Well, you know, and like John was saying, too, I'm curious. I would have been curious to know where you stood on that record now, since it was your number one when it was.

01:50:05.860 --> 01:50:35.840
Oh yeah George is that your five four and three on this list I was just thinking that yeah come back to me at number two five four three two and one so I thought about this one I really liked it but I can't I don't put this on much it's so much of a thing there's four all these different albums I can't sit through the whole thing and and you know in any time but you know you pick and choose

01:50:35.860 --> 01:50:37.980
It's hard to sit through this human centipede

01:50:38.510 --> 01:50:38.680
Yeah

01:50:41.520 --> 01:50:43.180
That always goes down smooth

01:50:44.380 --> 01:50:46.120
Alright so John number four

01:50:48.100 --> 01:50:48.700
So

01:50:50.540 --> 01:50:51.720
Let me see what I put

01:50:51.950 --> 01:50:53.500
Okay so this band

01:50:55.180 --> 01:50:55.440
So

01:50:56.070 --> 01:50:57.980
Yeah this is tough because this band

01:50:58.360 --> 01:51:00.100
Basically I discovered

01:51:00.410 --> 01:51:02.220
This band with this album so this

01:51:02.440 --> 01:51:04.400
Band sort of this album

01:51:04.400 --> 01:51:33.900
may not be the best representation of the band, but it has become my go-to sort of space out when I'm at work music, which used to be Isis Oceanic or anything by Alsest because they only sing in French. And so when I can work and write stuff or do work or whatever, I can space out to this. So anyway, I'm going to put,

01:51:36.200 --> 01:52:02.980
So Ahab, Boats of Glen Kerrig. I love this book, too. It was always one of my favorites. But I friggin' I had to look back to see if their previous one fit in this time period. That's the one I wanted, The Giant. The Giant, yeah. The Giant's great, and I'm a huge fan. I mean, honestly, I've read every book except Moby Dick. Oh, dude, it's my favorite book. I know.

01:52:04.020 --> 01:52:33.960
Yeah, for years it was, and I read a lot of different stuff than just fantasy, but I was Lord of the Rings for a long time when I read Moby Dick. It's my favorite, favorite adventure, favorite novel. But I, discovering this band, and when I mentioned... You just said you like, you fantasize about Dick rings. I like Dick's. He does like... No. But I mean, like, this band, it's just discovering them, and I mean, I mentioned I'm not huge into Doom, but I mean, like, this thing, it's so, it's so big and intense. It's great.

01:52:34.020 --> 01:52:39.520
their sound. And I really like this album. I know it did not get as much love.

01:52:41.080 --> 01:52:42.680
But like... It wasn't as good as The Giants.

01:52:44.520 --> 01:52:47.800
And I kind of... I don't know. I like both of them a lot.

01:52:47.880 --> 01:52:53.900
And I honestly, by discovering it there, I don't actually see much difference between all their albums.

01:52:54.100 --> 01:52:58.000
I go back to all of them. I listen to all of them. They're phenomenal.

01:52:58.140 --> 01:53:02.540
So maybe it's because I don't have anything latching me to one of them.

01:53:02.740 --> 01:53:27.680
And that's a big plus. But this album is great. And it's also a really interesting book. I love it. I don't know what they're going to do next. Because some of them are going to run out of weird maritime books. Number four, Throssenblot, Medicthonia.

01:53:33.340 --> 01:53:34.400
Cue the children.

01:53:38.440 --> 01:53:39.500
That's all it needs to be said.

01:53:40.240 --> 01:53:40.460
John.

01:53:43.820 --> 01:53:45.340
All right, I'm going to blow my list up again.

01:53:47.080 --> 01:53:57.260
I don't know, Jay, if you remember when you and I hung out at your place, we decided to get pizza and beers, but it's not the one you're thinking of.

01:53:57.860 --> 01:54:27.160
And I told Jay he needed to check out a song. And it's from the band Aranzi Pazuzu. And he loved it. I don't know if he still likes it. But at the time, we had a good talk about it. But that's my four. Aranzi Pazuzu. And I'm not saying the name because I don't know how to say it. I think it's Valanilu, I think. You could say any of them. Well, I would say this. What we were listening to was the new one on vinyl when you brought it up.

01:54:27.860 --> 01:54:57.780
And I have that one on vinyl now too. It's great. And I did consider this record, by the way. Yes. So. Sweet. Well. There we go. My favorite album from 2014, Cannibal Corpse. A Skeletal Domain. Wouldn't be a list without Cannibal Corpse. Cannibal Corpse. Yep. Going in with some conversation from earlier, and I really do hold this record in high regard, and I take no reserve in putting it on the list. Behemoth, the Satanist.

01:55:00.120 --> 01:55:04.640
My number four, Alkaloid, the Malkuth Grimoire.

01:55:05.380 --> 01:55:05.820
Oh.

01:55:07.500 --> 01:55:09.100
That is just, you know.

01:55:09.450 --> 01:55:09.560
Yeah.

01:55:09.900 --> 01:55:15.460
Now I've got to go to the website and look at your top 4,000 for 2014 to see where that was.

01:55:17.220 --> 01:55:18.700
Now, you know, that's an album.

01:55:18.820 --> 01:55:20.320
I don't even know where it was placed.

01:55:20.460 --> 01:55:21.880
I'm sure it wasn't in the top five.

01:55:23.760 --> 01:55:24.420
Or maybe it was.

01:55:25.360 --> 01:55:26.580
It was on everybody's list.

01:55:26.620 --> 01:55:56.540
I think one person did my list. But, you know, it's just such a unique album that definitely from the last five years, that's one that I will go back to regularly. That's what I like. You displaced a number one. Did you like it better, George, than the new one? Initially, I'm, you know, I haven't listened to the new one as much yet. I like the new one, but I don't know if I like it as much as the first one. Okay. I'm a little on the fence.

01:55:57.720 --> 01:56:26.480
That new one's really good. I don't know. Oh, it's great. Yeah. Hell yeah. Yeah. All right. John BT number three. That's Soto Brimes. All right. So I actually have a shirt for this one, although I'm not going to change. So I don't know if anybody can notice this, but or if it's possible to see. Is that Wilderun?

01:56:26.640 --> 01:56:56.400
It is Wilderun. Wow. I fucking love this album. Yeah, Wilderun just blew me away, and I have listened to this more so much over the years. John is smiling. The other John. Can you do the boing sound effect? Boing. Boing. The boner sound effect. Yes. I mean, Sleep at the Edge of the Earth, those first four tracks,

01:56:56.640 --> 01:57:25.860
that are a part of that storyline. And just this walk into nature type thing. It's just an unbelievable, just heavy album. I think anybody should look it up. And if you haven't heard it, go check it out. I mean, it was funny because I actually got pulled up. Someone walked up and tapped me on the back at one point in a bar. It was like the back of that shirt says American, real American folk metal or something.

01:57:26.640 --> 01:57:55.620
And this guy was like, what's folk metal? And I was like, well, it should really be more like folk death metal. Yeah. But it is a friggin' phenomenal band. I can't wait. I hope they do something else. Yeah. I'm looking forward to that, too. I know. Not to interrupt. Sorry. Alkaloid was your number four that year, George. Okay. So it was top five. Yeah.

01:57:56.620 --> 01:58:25.800
This was my number one the year. The Malkuth Groom one. It was mine too. So dropping to third meant some good stuff came out. Matt. So the goal with my next three picks is to do the exact opposite of blow anybody's mind because they will be the most obvious and uneventful picks. My number three.

01:58:26.660 --> 01:58:53.500
Maybe it's just the order. I don't know. I wish I could keep people more on the edge of their seat. And I'm going to be a failure at that tonight. My number three is Chemist Hunted. 2016. That's an honorable pick. Most honorable. Good, good album. I almost saw them on that. So I was out of town. I like your history of almost having seen them several times.

01:58:58.680 --> 01:59:25.800
Oh, you know what? And I meant to mention this, but tonight I'm here having passed on Elton John. Oh, man. You know how hard I tried to get Elton John tickets? Well, by pass, it was like I decided not to spend the thousand dollars for my wife and I to go, which I could have. You know, I could have done that, which would have been like, but I would have gotten like high level seats, not like Jay spending a thousand dollars to get.

01:59:26.620 --> 01:59:55.960
To choke. Yeah. When I saw he did that, I actually Googled the cost of that before the podcast when he talked about it. How much? You can tell it. I don't care. What was it? $850. And it said, does not include the cost of the show. It did, though. It had the ticket. The ticket came with it. Yeah. But it was worth every penny. Oh, no. It looked awesome. Yeah. John. Johnny-ton. All right. From 2013.

01:59:57.140 --> 02:00:24.660
The Ocean, Pelagio. Yes. Looking forward to that new one. It's supposed to be waves, but it's already in my collection, the new one. I got it, Matt. Thank you. All right. You're welcome. It's all just a femigai. All right, so mine is Will. We all got to do Will. Do me now.

02:00:26.620 --> 02:00:55.800
Like I said, the way I did this was by year. So my 2015 pick is the only year that I upseated my number one pick. Because my previous number one pick for 2015 was Clutch. He learned. Dare I say Clutch Psychic Warfare again. Really cool. So this is actually a true blue.

02:00:56.640 --> 02:01:25.280
This is my number one album from that year. Temple of Void. Of Terror and the Supernatural. Nice. I don't think there's any... If Temple of Void put out a country album, I would fucking love it. But it wouldn't be metal. That's right. Someone make your list. Where was this on your list before? It was probably number four. Okay.

02:01:28.300 --> 02:01:56.240
I may be the person whose taste has changed the most since we started all this podcast stuff. I may be going out on a limb on that, but my tastes have changed where I'm way more to the extreme and choosy. And I've learned a lot from evaluating and choosing music. I've also watched and you've listened and you've also adapted to, it's weird,

02:01:56.640 --> 02:02:00.560
you were like anti-clean vocals and then you fell in love with chemists and then

02:02:01.420 --> 02:02:07.820
well so you've adapted it's interesting you've gone more extreme with the cannibal corpse and the other

02:02:08.080 --> 02:02:12.640
heavy heavy heavy yeah well he didn't know his cannibal corpse yeah no i know but

02:02:13.800 --> 02:02:22.240
you're you're you're right to a certain extent is that if you have like a metal core sort of thing

02:02:22.240 --> 02:02:36.400
where you go, if you're doing the heavy stuff and then you go to the clean stuff, if you go for super heavy death metal or black metal vocals and then you go to the clean stuff, you need to do it in a very, very specific way for me to be on board with that.

02:02:37.180 --> 02:02:51.440
But if you're clean, if you're mostly clean vocals, like obviously I like Black Sabbath and so many of these are like Trouble and so many of these other doom bands, Dio, exactly, where I don't, I certainly do not dislike,

02:02:51.460 --> 02:03:21.120
I don't dislike clean vocals but if you're mostly a harsh death metal or black metal vocalist and then you go to the clean you better do it in a right way for me to be on board with it and so chemist to me was mostly it's a clean vocal band that occasionally goes to the harsh vocals and I think they do the clean and the harsh in such a way that it works and I love it.

02:03:21.460 --> 02:03:51.020
But it was seeing him live that got you, right? It was, absolutely. And I will, I will, and I'm, we all are, we all are kind of friends with the guys in Chemist. I've admitted to them, to their face. I've hung out with Phil at my brewery for hours. And I will be the first one to meet. He's the vocalist in the band. He's the main vocalist in the band. I'll be like, you know, it took me a while to like, get on board. But when I saw them live, I was like, it was done. It was like, it was like seeing,

02:03:51.100 --> 02:04:19.620
Seeing Lady Gaga for the first time. Yeah, that was good. You fall in love. Being in love means never having to see your star. I wouldn't know. I haven't had the experience and blissful joy. Suddenly Lady Gaga. I'm booked at the glory hole in Anacostia. Star is born. Hi, Jay. No, this is a complete coincidence that we spoke about these a little while ago.

02:04:21.120 --> 02:04:50.660
George, which doesn't mean that I don't love you. Trypticon, Milana Cosmata. Sorry, Joel. The first one was great, but when they came back for the second ride, there's so much lyrically that I connect with us on that record and just killer riffs and stuff. I'd just like to see number three come around. Totally. Jay, you're a big fan of Trypticon? Big enough. I mean, it's still not quite Celtic Frost-sized love for me, but I do love Trypticon, yeah.

02:04:51.120 --> 02:05:20.720
Are you coming to Philadelphia? For the Metal and Beer Fest? Are you letting something slip here? No, I'm not. Yeah, I'm coming. I'll play it. If you really like it, I'll play it, and then I'll put the lube on. I see. Okay, fair enough. That's all I'm saying. Yeah, all right. Sure. Yeah, I'm in. You don't have to ask me twice. Will you light a candle? You can light my candle.

02:05:21.140 --> 02:05:50.380
It would be like chocolate, vanilla, scented candle. I'm so disappointed. That's all I was looking for. Get rid of that L.A. smell. My number three is Cobalt, Slow Forever and Ever and Ever. It's a worthy choice. I was listening to that again today, and it still just fucking rips. I think I say this every time I mention the record, but there's a song in there called Elephant Graveyard that is like the greatest fucking song. That song is so good.

02:05:51.100 --> 02:06:19.080
There is no problem with that album. That album is amazing. It needed an editor. It needed an editor. It's like certain cool albums that need to get rid of the shit in between tracks. Everything after the Anemia album? No, even that one. Anima had the crap between the tracks and stuff.

02:06:21.140 --> 02:06:51.080
This album, there's so many good tracks in that Elephant Graveyard. Oh my god. So good. But like, come on, it was not two CDs. It was a little too long. Didn't bother me. Sorry, Jordan. Alright, what's your number two? Yeah. Alright, so my number two also has a t-shirt to go in. Nice. And so this album was...

02:06:51.120 --> 02:07:21.080
It's like, if they're sixth on my list the year it came out and has massively increased. One of the things I like, I like albums that make you think about the concepts behind them. And I love an album that has a meaning behind it. And so, I don't know if anybody knows this crazy art. Cattle. Oh, yeah. Sure. So, Cattle Decapitation, The Anthropocene,

02:07:22.080 --> 02:07:50.960
Extinction is just fucking unbelievable. Would you call us? It's a great, great record. It is a great record. I saw them live on this tour and just blew me away. I saw them with Revocation. And Revocation was also really good. Do this whole Cthulhu thing. That's kind of neat. But I mean, Cal Decapitation,

02:07:51.120 --> 02:07:52.040
is just fantastic.

02:07:53.580 --> 02:07:54.660
I'm going to see them next Sunday.

02:07:54.840 --> 02:07:54.980
Actually,

02:07:55.140 --> 02:07:55.620
they're here.

02:07:56.020 --> 02:07:56.360
Sweet.

02:07:56.880 --> 02:07:57.880
At the Oakland Metro.

02:07:58.320 --> 02:07:59.960
And yeah,

02:08:00.120 --> 02:08:00.500
can't wait.

02:08:00.700 --> 02:08:02.720
So my brother-in-law lived in,

02:08:02.800 --> 02:08:06.820
in San Diego for a while and used to go to a farmer's market and buy

02:08:07.800 --> 02:08:08.240
like the,

02:08:08.540 --> 02:08:08.980
what's his name?

02:08:09.140 --> 02:08:10.140
Travis from the band.

02:08:10.860 --> 02:08:14.520
Used to have a stall at the farmer's market there and sell vegetables.

02:08:15.720 --> 02:08:17.640
I'm sure they're all vegetarians,

02:08:17.860 --> 02:08:17.940
right?

02:08:18.100 --> 02:08:18.580
I'm sure they are.

02:08:18.720 --> 02:08:20.680
Sell vegetables and metal seeds.

02:08:20.720 --> 02:08:50.700
Is that right? Like metal CDs like on his stand and my buddy Matt like my brother-in-law he'd just show up and he's like dude you have all these CDs he's like these are amazing he's like oh yeah I'm in a band it's called Cal Decapitation and like he's like dude I know your band it's amazing so that was not unlike the alkaloid that was one that was I think that our year and everybody had it except like one of us I don't remember who it was but it was great that's a great record it was made

02:08:51.520 --> 02:09:20.420
Yeah, that was me too. Everyone had it but me. Alkaloid? No. Cattle decapitation. You didn't have alkaloid. John didn't have cattle decapitation. That's a true statement. So Matt. The thing about this is the concept behind it, the whole idea of the extinction that we're all causing and whatnot. Just such a good idea and concept. They nailed it.

02:09:20.740 --> 02:09:49.180
And they carried it through the whole album. So yeah, that's got a killer cover. You ever seen the Lego movie? John BT. I have. Hippie. Matt number two. Nice. My number two. Trypticon. Milana Chismata. Oh, wow. Wow. I love it.

02:09:50.740 --> 02:10:19.960
I saw Jay flashing an album, but Matt was talking. He's like kind of my interpreter when I talk. Also, I didn't mention this, not to cut you off, but I love having cattle decapitation shit and having my wife hate me wearing cattle decapitation stuff. Matt, go ahead.

02:10:20.740 --> 02:10:50.660
this hoodie that I bought, but while Matt talks, and then I'll come back and show you, because she hates this. Go ahead, Matt. Right on. That's a funny story. So I have my funny wife slash cow decapitation story as she was going, she was on her phone, and I assumed she was getting like... Decapitated your wife because she was on your phone? What? Oh, I don't know. You missed it. You didn't quite catch that well. You're going to want to listen a little closer. It was close, but... It could be a good plot. I might write that down for a movie. She was going through her phone, and like,

02:10:50.720 --> 02:11:20.160
Oh, yeah, this band's in town, you know, like normal stuff. And then she's like, Oh, Caldecavitation, you're going to that show? And I was like, Well, yeah, she's like, I was joking, you're not really going to that. And I'm like, Yes, I'm going to Caldecavitation. Are you nuts? Yeah. So I literally bought her one of their bumper stickers. That's like my wife, because she's vegetarian. And it's like, their bumper stickers all like, vegan, whatever. And it's like some,

02:11:20.740 --> 02:11:50.700
I don't remember what it says but I also came home with this which is this hoodie of like Ronald McDonald the four horseman of the apocalypse and it's like the four horseman of the Burger King Burger King and Jack from Jack in the Box the Burger King Ronald McDonald the Colonel Sanders and the guy from Jack in the Box in the back of it is like they will like the it says like

02:11:50.980 --> 02:12:20.640
Here they come. The ones who will destroy the earth. And I wear this when she's out. When we're out. And she's like, I hate you so much. You know what? All our wives hate us so much. You know, the hoodie is just. It's a lightning rod. Just to her to vocalize. There's always that one guy who has the wife. Who's like.

02:12:25.360 --> 02:12:27.040
I want to meet that guy.

02:12:27.940 --> 02:12:29.660
I'll tell you right now, he can't trust her.

02:12:32.640 --> 02:12:32.880
John.

02:12:34.080 --> 02:12:34.480
Number two.

02:12:37.120 --> 02:12:38.400
The contortionist language.

02:12:39.260 --> 02:12:41.200
I'm guessing nobody else has this on their list.

02:12:43.340 --> 02:12:43.820
Accurate.

02:12:45.260 --> 02:12:47.280
I'm going to check this out, though, because honestly,

02:12:47.720 --> 02:13:16.280
I find a lot of unique things come out of John's wheelhouse that I get into. And part of it is I know he's a big Allsest fan, and that kind of led me to listen to what he pulls up here and there. John likes to hear these things. Yeah. And it was actually the first time I've ever heard anybody mention Allsest was John. Cool. That's awesome. Cool.

02:13:17.620 --> 02:13:47.580
I like freaking love their stuff and like I'm like why isn't anybody else listening to these albums I think George likes them a little bit don't you George contortionist I'm Matt you do no yeah I like all yeah what are you talking about great great lyrics and French all right Jay number two

02:13:47.620 --> 02:13:48.400
Will.

02:13:48.900 --> 02:13:49.540
How about.

02:13:50.540 --> 02:13:50.940
No.

02:13:51.180 --> 02:13:51.600
Forget Will.

02:13:52.340 --> 02:13:52.520
Sorry.

02:13:52.820 --> 02:13:53.880
We do keep skipping you.

02:13:54.740 --> 02:13:55.080
Um.

02:13:56.140 --> 02:13:57.140
So my 2016.

02:13:59.140 --> 02:14:00.300
Number one album of the year.

02:14:00.500 --> 02:14:02.280
Which I've mentioned here on the podcast before.

02:14:02.420 --> 02:14:02.780
Is Eerie.

02:14:03.800 --> 02:14:05.020
Self-titled album.

02:14:05.280 --> 02:14:05.520
Eerie.

02:14:06.140 --> 02:14:06.320
Oh.

02:14:06.880 --> 02:14:07.560
Holy crap.

02:14:07.720 --> 02:14:08.380
I love that one.

02:14:08.560 --> 02:14:09.360
And I remember Jay.

02:14:09.500 --> 02:14:10.980
The one person who had on their list.

02:14:11.580 --> 02:14:12.400
That year is Jay.

02:14:12.880 --> 02:14:13.040
Yep.

02:14:13.480 --> 02:14:14.600
And I still spin that.

02:14:14.760 --> 02:14:15.080
I have.

02:14:15.220 --> 02:14:15.940
I bought it on vinyl.

02:14:16.080 --> 02:14:17.040
I spin it all the time.

02:14:17.120 --> 02:14:46.020
I fucking love it. Isn't it cool how the liner notes are like an eerie magazine? Yeah. Yeah. Because all that stuff, I think all the songs are based on eerie stories. Yeah. I think, I'm pretty sure. Yeah. I love it. And I still spend that. You know, every couple of months it goes in. Now, Jay. All right. This is my first one that actually occupied a number one space in any of my years. And this is easily one of my top five favorite bands these days. I hope they get around to doing another record soon.

02:14:47.160 --> 02:15:15.540
Nucleus. Yeah, I actually was going to jump in and cut you off and guess that this was what you were going to say. Which, by the way, I'm glad I didn't go to Psycho Vegas, because I only found out after the fact that they had visa issues and they didn't make it. So that was the main reason I wanted to go. But I can't recommend this band highly enough. Listening to their progression from album to album to album, and Nucleus is the top of the heap. I can't wait for the next one.

02:15:15.670 --> 02:15:15.760
Sweet.

02:15:17.120 --> 02:15:45.400
This was a good album. Your recommendation put this on my list. Yeah, I love that guy. My number two is Trypticon, Milana Cosmata. I wonder how many of us are going to have the same number one. I think me, John, and Matt, maybe. There can only be one. No, me and John TV. BT? Or BT, excuse me.

02:15:45.880 --> 02:16:12.760
I don't think so. I actually don't think you and I are going to have the same number one. Okay, well, let's get it out of the way. All right. What do you think my number one is? I can't tell you. I think I'm going to have the same number one as someone else and not in that list. All right, let's hear it. All right. So my number one is Throssenblatt, Metakthonian.

02:16:16.500 --> 02:16:45.660
You and I are not going to have the same number. That was no spoiler. I'm surprised it's not what I was going to say. I know, but this is literally like... Fair enough. Maybe... I like Thrasenblatt, but I think this might be one of the top albums of my life. Oh, wow. Seriously, the concepts behind this album,

02:16:45.900 --> 02:17:15.080
of the change in technology and the dealing with time and the world change. I'm literally in this place where I'm watching my daughter, who's three, and she's in this world that I'm like a tech-savvy person, but I can't, like the world is so uniquely different than the world I came into. I'm one of those, you know, they're now calling the Oregon Trail Kids or whatever.

02:17:16.619 --> 02:17:45.840
who dealt with the technology before it was technology and the analog world where you know we we had things cut off and now we're going into then we discovered the internet and now we're connected and and and like wait if you had to cut off you can just look on the internet and you find a place to put it back no i've been looking for my ball since i ever got married but i mean like i was watching some

02:17:45.860 --> 02:17:51.780
some old detective movies and and i also am a big fan of old chandler novels and

02:17:52.639 --> 02:17:59.940
and a lot of the plot lines don't work in the world of cell phones like where you could just

02:18:00.559 --> 02:18:07.820
call someone and tell them that the bad guy is whatever and stuff and like like the world we live in

02:18:07.940 --> 02:18:14.460
is very different and and it keeps changing and it's constantly changing i mean like i remember a time

02:18:15.039 --> 02:18:43.920
My buddy and I were like looking. We had like cell phones and stuff back then, but we wanted like an MP3 player on the cell phone. And we went into a place and my buddy was like, I really want this. And they're like, yeah, we don't really have that. And I'm like, that's just a no brainer. And Steve Jobs made it a no brainer. Like it's like it made billions of dollars. But but I mean, we're in this this crazy,

02:18:44.460 --> 02:19:13.901
where things have changed so much and that's what's so cool about it this this world that has shifted and that medic thonia deals with the where he talks about those how different the world is only in only seven years and and i i remember he mentioned in in the interview on the podcast about woad pg woadhouse about how he was born the day where darwin died and he died after the beatles were famous yeah

02:19:13.920 --> 02:19:43.400
And like, that's like, just that timeline is shockingly different there. But if you think about changes we've had, you know, we went from, you know, like just completely unconnected. UHF TV with three channels. Where Michael Douglas on Wall Street was carrying a brick and talking on a phone that lasts for 15 minutes on the movie.

02:19:43.920 --> 02:20:13.380
And that was the coolest thing in the world. To like. Us complaining. That our phone's battery only lasts like. Nine, ten hours of constant use. And we are connected to like. Data streaming. That we. And whatever. That we could launch a rocket into space or something. Yeah. Like that's where we're in. Yeah. I don't know. But on top of all that. You have this ridiculously. Heavy. Metal album. That has unbelievably.

02:20:13.900 --> 02:20:42.580
progressive guitar riffs and the drums. Everything about this album is unbelievable, plus the folk elements in there. And in fact, last night, when I was tucking my daughter into bed, she has this little, what's called a constellation turtle. And it's a little turtle that has stars cut in the back and blast lights up into the sky, and there are these little stars.

02:20:42.700 --> 02:21:11.720
And she was counting the stars on the back of the turtle. And like pointing at them and stuff. And she was counting. And she was up to like 20 something. And she's like, there's a lot of stars. And I was just thinking about this. I think it's the second track on that album. Where it's like, she who counted the stars or something. And, and just like, all I could think about was like, this world that she's going into. And how exciting.

02:21:12.720 --> 02:21:14.040
It is.

02:21:14.720 --> 02:21:22.420
And I know some people think that going into the future and the change and what's different is scary.

02:21:23.240 --> 02:21:31.740
But to me, everything is so exciting and so cool that I'm so excited where she's going.

02:21:32.920 --> 02:21:41.560
And that's what's so neat about this album, that it doesn't say that this change has been so negative.

02:21:42.400 --> 02:21:43.680
and cause problems.

02:21:44.180 --> 02:21:47.700
It's not like my previous number two Anthropocene Station

02:21:47.890 --> 02:21:52.180
where I'm wiping out thousands of species all around the planet

02:21:52.310 --> 02:21:54.040
because of us humans who don't give a fuck.

02:21:54.560 --> 02:21:59.420
What I would say is, George, you've just been replaced as someone else's ultimate fanboy.

02:22:00.040 --> 02:22:00.560
Yeah.

02:22:02.600 --> 02:22:05.840
The two longest monologues I've ever listened to on this show were about this album.

02:22:09.280 --> 02:22:39.220
I am not big of a fanboy about Cross. Oh, no, no. So the band, like, I gotta get in more with their previous stuff, and I like some of Woods, but, like, this album clicked like nothing else, and I've gone back and listened to the others, and they're good, but they don't, like, click. This is the album. Yes, sir. But that, not to cut you off, but we gotta move to Matt to get to this.

02:22:40.739 --> 02:23:09.240
All right, so with my number one, I'm definitely getting some Samesy vibes, meaning I believe that one of you also have this as your number one, and I'm going to write that name down. I will reveal it at a later point. But my number one is Carcass with Surgical Steel. Fine trust. All right. John, I think. It would be me. So my number one is the only number one

02:23:09.280 --> 02:23:39.240
that survived for all the year ends I've been on the podcast I know what it is go ahead from Baltimore Maryland one of our locals I don't know what it is I mean I do know what it is now but sorry exist exist so true so bound I listen to this album all the time I'm a big fan of fusion and some of the jazzier elements being brought into metal and this one has quite a bit but it's also very heavy

02:23:39.280 --> 02:24:08.560
Heavy, Death-y, Proggy. It's got a lot going on. What did you think it was, George? Wilderun. That got axed from my top five. Really? It was a good guess, though. Yeah. Do you not go back to that? Not as much. I still like it a lot. It's just these are the albums I listen to the most. And that's what I was looking for when I brought this up. What's the difference?

02:24:09.260 --> 02:24:39.100
All right. Well, we didn't forget you this time. Well, that's all right. My so my number one from 2017, which is not necessarily my number one overall. However, it, you know, it's in contention. They're all in contention for my number one overall, but creator gods of violence. Fucking absolutely love that album. That was my number one album for 2017. Very good album.

02:24:39.260 --> 02:25:09.240
I don't know if I would have guessed that though it's good I just didn't know you held it in that high of a regard interesting yeah I held it in that high regard in 2017 um man could you hold up the name that you wrote down that's right baby carcass surgical steel came out 2013 yeah it came out in 2013 it's so good they're one of the great reunion records of all time it's and actually of all

02:25:09.260 --> 02:25:39.240
All the stuff I mentioned on my list, even though there are some things that I probably talk about more, I probably put Surgical Steel still on more than anything else I've mentioned on my list. I still put that record in pretty regularly. Same. It's like one of those, like, I don't know what to listen to albums in a carcass. It's just, I never got tired of it, no matter how much I listened to it. So I know why you thought that I would have this on my list, and this album was really good, but

02:25:39.260 --> 02:26:09.120
It would have been Heartwork if you couldn't get Heartwork somehow, yeah. You have to understand, like, for me, it was like those two albums, Necroticism and Heartwork, were so connected to me. Yeah, yeah. Having, like, I was there when Heartwork came out. That was an album for me that sort of came out. I had listened to Necroticism a bunch before. And Surgical Steel was great. But, like... That was your formula.

02:26:09.140 --> 02:26:39.100
It just to me it wasn't as good and I don't go back to it. I like listen to it here and there and every once I put it on I have but I like still go back to Necrotism and Necrotism more. I listened to Heartwork more back then but now I go back to Necrotism more. I mean that whole monologue before

02:26:40.439 --> 02:27:07.640
He's like, and now I have to kill you. He's like, I wish I had the power to do it. My number one, can I get you all to say it for me? I think it's Thross and Blut. Manathonia. Manathonia. Probably the, I think that was the most often mentioned title.

02:27:09.140 --> 02:27:39.020
of you guys had it. Could be, yeah. Yeah. George, Matt. Three of you guys had Trypticon, too. Ah, that's right. Okay. So interesting. That's an interesting time. Threesomes all around. It's all about the teas. All right, but that was fun. That was still fun to do. Well done, everybody. George, can you just say it? Just say it. Thrasenblatt. All right, let's do Skullcrushers. And John, being our guest, we allowed him to pick a band.

02:27:39.360 --> 02:28:08.700
And it's a repeat, but that's okay because he wasn't here the last time, even though he's probably heard it. But he chose Iron Maiden. And it's a band that's easy to ask questions about. Yeah, I came up with different questions this time. Cool. So let's start with Matt. What you got? I also promised I would not go back and re-listen to the podcast in case Matt wanted to ask his question. I don't think he asked me that question, though. I think that came around with the kiss. Oh, actually,

02:28:09.140 --> 02:28:39.100
I wanted to change this up a little because I wanted to ask you guys as a question just as a group sure given that I mentioned that I'm in my early 40s and I didn't get into Maiden until high school or amused metal until high school or whatever what do you guys think my first Iron Maiden album was that I heard fear the dark I don't think

02:28:39.880 --> 02:29:07.560
Anybody? So Brave New World, Fear of the Dark. Anybody else say stuff? I'll say that the first album I heard did not come out like when it came out. Okay, well, see if that changes things. Sorry. I think I know it, so I'm not going to guess because I think you told me once. Well, then I would say Power Slave. Not Power Slave, I wish. I wish. So.

02:29:09.140 --> 02:29:11.320
Actually, to be honest with you, I thought it was Power Slave 2.

02:29:12.500 --> 02:29:19.400
It was, well, I actually have a, ironically, a Power Slave World Tour pamphlet.

02:29:19.480 --> 02:29:19.580
Wow.

02:29:19.910 --> 02:29:20.320
That program.

02:29:21.500 --> 02:29:22.180
From my friend.

02:29:22.270 --> 02:29:24.920
He gave it to me, and I just threw it in my slot of stuff.

02:29:26.280 --> 02:29:27.980
If anybody didn't see it, it's right there.

02:29:28.300 --> 02:29:28.520
Nice.

02:29:28.740 --> 02:29:29.620
Nice to have that poster.

02:29:30.110 --> 02:29:35.400
My first made in an album that I heard was Somewhere in Time.

02:29:36.640 --> 02:29:37.260
Oh, all right.

02:29:37.520 --> 02:29:37.820
Fair enough.

02:29:38.460 --> 02:29:39.080
Not a bad poster.

02:29:42.979 --> 02:29:45.240
We were up on a camping trip and he's like,

02:29:45.760 --> 02:29:47.240
dude, have you heard this band Iron Maiden?

02:29:47.900 --> 02:29:48.680
I was like, no.

02:29:48.900 --> 02:29:51.000
And this is my friend Mike who got me into metal.

02:29:51.260 --> 02:29:52.980
And he was like, here, I'm going to put on some songs.

02:29:53.070 --> 02:29:55.020
They have like three-minute solos.

02:29:55.540 --> 02:29:57.720
And he put on Somewhere in Time.

02:29:57.870 --> 02:29:59.340
And we got to like Alexander the Great.

02:29:59.550 --> 02:30:00.240
And I was hooked.

02:30:00.900 --> 02:30:01.840
And then that was it.

02:30:02.760 --> 02:30:04.980
And he never was that big into them.

02:30:05.160 --> 02:30:08.160
But yeah, it put me down that road.

02:30:08.320 --> 02:30:36.820
Is Somewhere in Time your favorite album? No. Good. I actually have my top five Iron Maiden albums, but I could tell you guys that afterwards. Is your favorite album cover? And liking them. Yeah, that's a good question. Okay. I would say that maybe Somewhere in Time might be my favorite album cover, and it might actually be one of the best album covers of all time because I'm a sci-fi book nerd.

02:30:38.320 --> 02:31:08.240
Good. And lock and load. Fucking stupid good. Yeah. All right. But let's see how much information you've retained. Let's see how this goes. I could totally fuck up like whatever. All right, Matt. Now I'm out of beer. I'm out of bourbon. And I have a lot. Jesus. Oh, wow. Okay. All right, Matt. Do some damage. So we all know how this goes.

02:31:08.860 --> 02:31:36.620
The issue is I do not remember the first Iron Maiden album I ever heard. So what was the first Iron Maiden album I was ever aware of? I was like, that's Iron Maiden. Good question. And I just turned 40 to give you kind of a time era. I turned 42 in January and I want to have a Hitchhiker's Guy birthday party. Yeah. So you're. How about.

02:31:38.320 --> 02:32:08.280
I'm going to say Peace of Mind. I'm going to say Live After Death. That was my first one I was aware of. Oh, is it Live After Death? No, Peace of Mind. Yeah, that's my guess. Sorry. Oh, okay. What is it? Seven Sun. Oh, that's... Damn, that's a good album to be the first one to be aware of. Honestly, I think that came out the same day, week or month as Rain and Blood because I bought them both the same day. And I actually don't...

02:32:08.320 --> 02:32:37.180
I'm telling you at the time one of them didn't really get listened to. I thought that was like 88. That would be the maybe. With Matt, I don't know maybe enough or have got enough of your background on when you got into metal. Maybe you don't jump in as much. It's a mystery, and I like to keep it that way. It was last year. Exactly. Midway through last year. When did Matt start coming on the podcast all the time?

02:32:37.840 --> 02:33:04.360
When he had puberty last year. Was it a year? I started it. I wouldn't say I'm through it by any means. I mean, I've been listening to every single episode since Jay joined because he brought me onto it or turned me onto it. And I listen to him almost within two days I'm done with the episode. Same with us. I'm like, I'm fucking done with this.

02:33:07.840 --> 02:33:37.640
But that said, I also went back a number and then looked at some old interviews and stuff when you mentioned certain bands. But yeah, mostly everything since Jay Jowling died. I've heard every episode. Okay. What else you got, Matt? So Matt, number two, I saw Ironman for the first time in the year 2010. Can you tell me what country I was in? What country? I'm sorry.

02:33:38.859 --> 02:34:06.620
For me? Correct. It's like the only other country I've been to. No, it's the only other country I've seen heavy metal in besides this country. Okay. In what country? I'm mixing Reina Blood up with something else, but anyway, go ahead. Still. In what country did the medieval torture device, also called the Iron Maiden, originate?

02:34:08.720 --> 02:34:37.800
Hmm. Is it a Spanish? Czech Republic? Oh, really? Well, that's a weird guess. I don't know. Is it an Inquisition thing? No, Germany. Germany? Okay, I thought it was somewhere around that region. And I remember because I went to in Prague, they have a museum of torture. Torture. And they have the Iron Maiden in there as a implement of torture.

02:34:37.880 --> 02:35:05.500
And I was like, oh, maybe it's there. So pretty good. Yeah. I knew it wasn't even though Bill and Ted. Yeah, exactly. And that would have been my first guess, too, until I looked it up. And then I realized like all the other like museum of torture device cities I've been to in Europe. And it's like, OK, my last question, just, you know, I'm just warming you up. Do you have any inklings as to where the origin of the band's name came from?

02:35:08.699 --> 02:35:37.360
Other than the torture device? I'm assuming it's a torture device, but... Yes. Well, yes and no. Think of a book... I think it was maybe a... That was made into a movie. That's right. I was going to say I thought it was a movie. Like some... Shit. I forgot what it was called. I keep thinking Daniel Day-Lewis, but I don't think he's in it. No, he's not.

02:35:37.420 --> 02:36:07.300
I think it's the same guy who wrote The Three Musketeers. Is that right? Like... Isn't it Bill and Ted's Great Adventure? Alexander. It might be. Three Musketeers. It is Dumas. It's not that, though. The Man in the Iron Mask. Got it. Yeah. Is it Dumas or Dumbass? It all depends on who says it will, and I think he's just showing the true colors. That brings us up. Is that it for you, Matt? Yes, sir. Johnny Jones.

02:36:08.420 --> 02:36:36.940
Okay. Three questions. I hope I can word this right so you understand it. Okay. What did Jay get his last name? All right. I can use the, what I use with Jay. Which of these four songs about Iron Maiden are about sex, but they don't have any sex songs? I hate 22, K. Shea Evans. Yeah. Hey, dude. Yeah.

02:36:38.381 --> 02:36:38.940
Yeah.

02:36:39.300 --> 02:36:40.000
A whole series.

02:36:41.040 --> 02:36:42.980
Slightly different than the Kiss catalog, but

02:36:45.281 --> 02:36:51.760
so what two albums in the original year of release had different song listings?

02:36:54.040 --> 02:36:59.040
So there are two albums that came out that were actually released twice during the year with different song listings.

02:36:59.980 --> 02:37:01.420
You should know one of these pretty easy, John.

02:37:03.780 --> 02:37:05.680
So just think of the extra tracks.

02:37:05.760 --> 02:37:35.320
I mean, think of the bonus tracks that came on the later ones. You should be able to figure it out. Well, no, this was during the original year of release. No, no, I got you. But I mean, then later on, some of them, you would know about these tracks probably because of the bonuses. I'll shut up. So I'm thinking Killers. I don't know. This one, this is pretty tough for me. Well, you got one of the albums. Okay. And maybe Iron Maiden. Yep. Yep.

02:37:35.780 --> 02:38:03.780
I was thinking it would be the early stuff. When Iron Maiden was released in England, it did not have Sanctuary. When it got its second release in the U.S., it had Sanctuary. So in England, they didn't have it? No. Man, that was... And then same with Killers with Twilight Zone. Oh, okay. But leaving out Sanctuary? Yeah, it wasn't on the original album. That's crazy.

02:38:05.780 --> 02:38:35.600
It was just a song from this dumb band. Yeah. Okay. What did my Metallica Kill Em All CD have on it? That everybody else's, like, didn't, the original album did. Blitzkrieg and Am I Evil. Am I Evil and Blitzkrieg, yeah. Oh, okay. So, all right. All right, second one. What album cover, it could be LP, an EP or single, has a reference to Led Zeppelin? Oh, fuck.

02:38:35.780 --> 02:39:02.160
I think you asked this in the one way. No, he didn't. No? I made sure these were all different. He asked me the one about Margaret Thatcher. Oh, that's right. I could see how you could confuse them with Led Zeppelin. Is it in the art? Yeah. Yeah, it's on the album cover. And it's a reference to Led Zeppelin. I have a guess. I do too.

02:39:06.840 --> 02:39:34.880
Is it on the front or the back of the album? It's on the front. Yeah, I'm assuming it's on the front. Yeah. I did not know this until the other day. I want to run into the other room and grab my... But you're not gonna. Yeah, I know. I'm not gonna. It's not... Fuck. That's crazy.

02:39:36.340 --> 02:40:05.520
Let me think. Shit. I don't know. Seventh Son? No. I remember I said LPEP or single. Ah, fuck. Okay. What do you got, Jay? Well, I think I'm wrong, but I was just going to go with John's favorite cover since it's the one with the most hidden stuff on it. I guess it's not that. George? Flight of Icarus? You got it. Oh!

02:40:05.760 --> 02:40:35.740
On the Flight of Icarus cover, after he gets pulverized by Eddie, burned, he's actually in the pose of the Swan Song logo. Yeah, totally. And that was purposeful, is what you're saying. Yes, but the issue with not knowing it is that it's kind of small on the cover compared to Eddie. I'm actually Googling it to look up the image. You know, I can see it in my head, and I totally get it. Because, like, I don't... So that's one of those things where I don't...

02:40:36.239 --> 02:41:05.740
Yeah, I see it. Yeah, I mean, I can picture the cover either. I used to own that single too. Yeah, I didn't know it until they reissued all the singles and I studied all of them when I got the 7-inch reissues. So when I got into Maiden, they were doing all these reissues with the CDs and along with an extra CD that had like a couple bonus tracks. So you got like the weird B-sides. All of them. They were all there. Everything from

02:41:07.159 --> 02:41:35.620
Cross-Eyed Mary to Mission for Mary. Yeah. And so I was like getting all of that stuff. And later I ripped it all into, you know, MP3 and stuff. And now I, then I had to later, I'm not going to say sort of maybe illegally downloaded it all in Flack or whatever. Do you guys know Mission for Mary? Do you know what that is? Mm-mm. Do you guys know Mission for Mary? It's a bonus track from one, on one of the CDs.

02:41:35.760 --> 02:42:03.220
It's from Flight of the Air Force. It's Steve and Nico just having this shit dog fight backstage. You'll have to listen to it. Maybe I'll send you a link. So good. That track is so good. If you look up Listening to Nico, he actually does this commentary on those CDs after the fact talking about the various B-sides.

02:42:05.760 --> 02:42:35.720
Niko for Mission to Ari is so great, where he just talks about how he, how like this, this like stage hand or whatever comes up to Niko and is like trying to say him, tell him something and he's fucking pissed and yelling at him. And apparently they're trying to tell him to extend the drum solo so that Steve can. Fix his bass rig. Bass. So he was,

02:42:35.780 --> 02:42:37.760
on a mission from Steve. And anyway, so

02:42:38.060 --> 02:42:39.540
Nico lets into this guy. Long story short,

02:42:40.000 --> 02:42:41.740
they stopped fighting and Bruce Dickinson walked

02:42:41.790 --> 02:42:43.760
into the room and started to fight again just so he could

02:42:43.920 --> 02:42:44.720
start the tape recorder.

02:42:45.570 --> 02:42:47.540
And it goes on for minutes and he's just like,

02:42:48.000 --> 02:42:49.900
and it only ends when Steve

02:42:50.620 --> 02:42:52.140
discovers the tape recorders and he says,

02:42:52.200 --> 02:42:53.900
oh, he's some cunts recording this.

02:42:54.900 --> 02:42:56.000
You need to hear it. It's funny.

02:42:56.500 --> 02:42:57.620
It's really good.

02:42:57.940 --> 02:42:59.660
It's a great bit of made in history.

02:43:00.360 --> 02:43:00.600
Anyway.

02:43:01.260 --> 02:43:01.420
All right.

02:43:01.850 --> 02:43:03.000
John, what's your third?

02:43:03.010 --> 02:43:03.780
Who went that one?

02:43:05.060 --> 02:43:05.340
All right.

02:43:05.840 --> 02:43:07.440
This is a lyric question.

02:43:08.940 --> 02:43:11.280
And I'm going to ask you to finish the lyric if you don't mind.

02:43:13.060 --> 02:43:14.120
This is what I have for you.

02:43:15.160 --> 02:43:16.220
Lyric goes as,

02:43:16.780 --> 02:43:17.760
I know what I want.

02:43:18.320 --> 02:43:19.560
When the timing is right,

02:43:20.180 --> 02:43:21.520
then I'll take what is mine.

02:43:23.540 --> 02:43:24.940
So what's the next line to that?

02:43:26.840 --> 02:43:27.660
That sounds familiar.

02:43:29.880 --> 02:43:31.580
I can repeat it again if you want me to.

02:43:32.340 --> 02:43:32.780
Shit.

02:43:33.560 --> 02:43:34.620
I know this lyric,

02:43:38.521 --> 02:44:04.660
Is this non-Bruce? That is correct. Is it Blaze? You are correct. Is it The Gambler? No. No? But it's Blaze-era. I know this song. I'll give you this. It's by far one of the best songs Bruce sings from the Blaze-era. Fuck. Then it's The Klansman? You got it.

02:44:05.260 --> 02:44:35.240
I don't know the rest of the lyric, but I know it's... I say that was a pretty good showing, though. So this is one thing I told George specifically. I'm okay getting hit with Blaze because I actually fucking listened to those two albums a lot. So you're the guy. Yeah. You're the one guy. See, I chose this song because it's...

02:44:35.280 --> 02:44:38.200
Japanese release of Virtual XI.

02:44:38.760 --> 02:44:39.140
Wow.

02:44:39.740 --> 02:44:40.660
Or not Virtual XI.

02:44:40.820 --> 02:44:40.920
Sorry.

02:44:42.260 --> 02:44:42.880
What's the other one?

02:44:43.640 --> 02:44:44.760
Virtual PC garbage.

02:44:45.120 --> 02:44:45.440
X-Factor.

02:44:45.540 --> 02:44:45.920
X-Factor.

02:44:46.420 --> 02:44:46.580
Yeah.

02:44:46.860 --> 02:44:47.100
Again.

02:44:47.440 --> 02:44:47.920
So you're the guy.

02:44:48.320 --> 02:44:48.500
Yeah.

02:44:49.580 --> 02:44:50.020
Well, let's.

02:44:50.460 --> 02:44:51.200
Was that your last one, John?

02:44:51.680 --> 02:44:52.220
Yeah, that's it.

02:44:52.440 --> 02:44:52.780
Nice.

02:44:53.100 --> 02:44:53.840
Okay, good one.

02:44:53.920 --> 02:44:55.640
So at least I got most of it.

02:44:55.960 --> 02:44:57.360
So, John, my first.

02:44:57.660 --> 02:44:58.160
John BT.

02:44:58.360 --> 02:45:02.400
My first two questions are related to how well you know the podcast.

02:45:03.380 --> 02:45:03.580
Nice.

02:45:05.580 --> 02:45:32.560
What is my favorite Iron Maiden album that I've mentioned many times? Shit. That's not an Iron Maiden album. That's actually a Metallica album. That was good. That's pretty good. I'm going to have to talk about this after. Fuck. You mentioned many times your favorite album.

02:45:33.800 --> 02:46:03.760
It's an introvertial album. I'm a man on an island. You're a man on an island. You like this album. Is it more recent or later? Or, I mean, sorry, early. It's early middle. Early middle. Early middle. So you are a fan of...

02:46:03.800 --> 02:46:31.760
This is where I get an issue of controversial because I don't fully know if it's controversial, but early middle is... I'm going either Seventh Son or somewhere in time, but I'm thinking it's Seventh Son because that's an amazing album. Sorry, it took a while. I'm eating again. Seventh Son of a Seventh Son. Yeah, that's what I thought.

02:46:35.159 --> 02:47:03.760
Why is that controversial? It's a little controversial. Oh, when it came out, people hated it. Yeah, that's true. You know, it came out the same year as Operation Mindcrime, and that was like, and Seven of the Sun was supposed to be a concept album, which it wasn't. Well, it's partial. It's partial. But it was the beginning of the decline of Maiden, so to speak, even though those of us who are great fans know it's one of the great

02:47:03.820 --> 02:47:32.700
It's just yeah. Yeah. Well. All right. What else? Pour all that bourbon in front of you guys. I was just jealous. My next question is. What was my opinion of Book of Souls? I thought you did not like it in general. Something like that.

02:47:33.780 --> 02:48:03.760
In general? Or was there an actual opinion stated? I think as a whole, you didn't like it. I fucking hated it. I thought it was a flip. I rank Book of Souls up there with Metallica the Black Apple. What's interesting about Book of Souls and your view of it is that I listen to this podcast and Jay very much knows one of the things that pisses me off.

02:48:03.800 --> 02:48:33.760
off about this podcast is View of Matter and Life and Death. Oh, that's also a flaming pile of shit. But at the same time, you guys like what I consider one of the three worst made in albums. Which is? Is Dance of Death. Dance of Death, yeah. I don't like Dance of Death at all. I think Dance of Death along and by the way, when I ranked the three worst made in

02:48:33.960 --> 02:48:58.920
albums, all three include Bruce. Sure. Dang. Yeah. I'm not a fan. John and I both will go to our grave defending a matter of life and death. Also, so Dance of Death, no one, everyone has to agree Dance of Death is the worst cover maybe in metal history. Can't dispute that. Have you seen the new Swiss history one?

02:49:03.800 --> 02:49:32.840
We will move on. We will move on. Because it's late. I love that you're holding that cover there. Oh, dude, I can ask you just a gazillion questions about this cover. And I will. Go for it. Ask a few. But what is the name of the pub in London that is considered the home of Iron Maiden? It is in East London. I used to know this and I don't. So.

02:49:34.300 --> 02:50:03.140
What was it? Ruskin Arms. That was it. That is correct. Which is on that cover, by the way. It's on this cover several times. I went there. Do you know the Summer in Time album? Have you been an Iron Maiden fan where you just studied this cover of this album incessantly? I mean, a lot, but I'm also old and I forget about it.

02:50:04.860 --> 02:50:29.100
Can you tell me, are there any Blade Runner references? And if there are, what are they? Yes, there are Blade Runner references. I believe there's a... Shit, what are they? I know there's a straight up Phil K. Dick one somewhere on there. God.

02:50:34.220 --> 02:51:03.760
God, I don't know what specifically. I wish I had one. We're all pulling up the frigging albums. I think I know one too, and it's not an easy one. I think there's a pyramid somewhere on there on the back. There's one that says Tyrell Corporation. They have the pyramid of the Tyrell Corporation right on the back of the album. They have the Egyptian pyramid on the back of the album. But I mean, like, if you remember the...

02:51:03.760 --> 02:51:31.420
From the Tyrell Corporation, when they're sitting there with Harrison Ford and stuff, there's that pyramid in the background. So the Tyrell Corporation is a pyramid. Okay. Yeah. But on the back of the album cover, right above the pedestrian walkway, there is the name Tyrell Corporation. Was that yours, George? Was that the one you knew? Yeah. Okay. It was another one. There's one obvious.

02:51:36.681 --> 02:51:45.300
I thought the person in the elevator was sort of a reference to it somehow

02:51:46.120 --> 02:51:50.660
oh is it like them going up to the head top of the Tyrell Corporation

02:51:51.190 --> 02:51:54.160
well you can't tell but yes it's the anyway

02:51:54.700 --> 02:51:57.880
and also on the back cover I'm just

02:51:58.920 --> 02:52:01.920
I just studied this album cover

02:52:04.459 --> 02:52:31.340
thoroughly for the first time in my entire life, which I love this album, just last night. Wow. Setting up for this question. However, on the bottom left of the back of the album cover, there's a... the name and lights kind of thing. And one is live after death, and underneath that it says Blade Runner. Yeah, it's a theater. Wow.

02:52:31.940 --> 02:53:01.000
Yeah, theater and aim and lights. Huh. All right, we'll go after that. And then one more question, just one more. What superhero is on the back of the Summer in Time album cover? Hmm. American-style superhero. Mm-hmm. American-style superhero? So, like, DC Comics or Marvel?

02:53:01.940 --> 02:53:31.840
It's on the back of the Somewhere in Times. Huh. It's kind of like right above Nico McGrane's head. Uh-huh. By about three inches. Oh, yeah. That's right. I forgot about that. Measured by Jay's penis. Well, divide by four. Divide by four. I think I have this in vinyl. I'd have to go grab it. You cannot. You have to know.

02:53:31.940 --> 02:54:01.820
You got a guess or nothing? I do not know. Superman. Is it Batman? Yeah. What's that right there? Yep. And that's the Led Zeppelin Icarus. Oh, it's Icarus? Batman was the superhero. Oh, really? Didn't you actually guess this about the Led Zeppelin reference? Because you were right, because it's on there. No, I didn't. So, I'm going to put my finger on Batman. I don't know if you can see it.

02:54:02.140 --> 02:54:31.620
It's really tiny. You see his flowing robe there? Oh, he's above on that cliff or on that building, like hopping off. Yeah, you got it. And then the Blade Runner. This album, honestly, you could stare at this album forever. That cover is like the most amazing album cover ever. It references everything. Speaking of which, I was watching, I don't know, I mentioned it.

02:54:31.680 --> 02:55:00.600
For the record, I'm done. And we're off to Jay, if you want to. Go ahead. I mentioned to George that there's a three-part YouTube documentary called The History of Iron Maiden. I think it was from some DVD series that came out. But it's on YouTube now. And they mention at one point, they talk about the inspiration for the Iron Maiden tour.

02:55:01.540 --> 02:55:30.420
or the Somewhere in Time tour was all Blade Runner. Sure. And that that was their big inspiration. So I think it might be the early years thing, which is a great thing. It was from I think they really needed it was basically Iron Maiden up through in 1988. Yeah. And they need to continue it. But they did. No, they did. You just it's not on YouTube. It's a DVD. OK, I got it. All right. I'm going to hit you kind of hard here, John, a little bit.

02:55:31.540 --> 02:55:59.720
Maybe not. What? Who are, list all the musicians on the first record? This is not a trick question. I just mean, who are they? There's not like some you're not going to think of. It's just you could easily forget. So it's Paul, Steve, Clive, Adrian still, right? No, it's not. That's the one you're going to have trouble with. I forgot.

02:56:03.421 --> 02:56:31.500
So the other one is... Not Adrian, but... Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. And it's not... Fuck. The blonde guy. Yeah, I know. Not Yannick Gers. I know. It's like, it's not Yannick. It's... He's not here, man. It's Mr. Groin. He's not home. Showing his...

02:56:33.840 --> 02:56:59.680
Dave Murray. Dave's not here, man. So the last one's a thicker, though. So Dave, and then I actually don't know their original lead guitarist. Dennis Stratton. Stratton, okay. Why, how did Eddie get his name? Why is he called Eddie? Good question. I mentioned this in that documentary, and I... It's pretty easy, if you think about it.

02:57:04.540 --> 02:57:28.880
You're gonna kick yourself. Yeah, I am. It's like a nickname or something. Yeah, you're on the right track. Yeah, like a killer or something. I don't remember. No, it was like a nickname for somebody. No, no. I don't know. I don't remember. Would it help if I told you it has to do with one of their very early stage props that featured only one part of his body?

02:57:38.800 --> 02:57:39.980
Yeah, I don't remember.

02:57:41.160 --> 02:57:58.760
The original Eddie was just a head. It was a head that they hung up on the stage. And in England, you might say, hey, you hit me in the head. So he became Eddie the Ed. And then just slowly became Eddie over the course of the years. But it was because he was a head.

02:58:02.440 --> 02:58:28.740
I got just two more questions for you. Tell me what song these lyrics come from. You tell me you're an unbeliever, spiritualist, well me I'm neither. This is late. Right? Or no? No? Not lately. Yeah, sorry. I'm going to give you a really weird... Same again? You tell me you're an unbeliever,

02:58:29.600 --> 02:58:58.320
Spiritualist, Will Me I'm Neither. And if you got it, George, I'm going to let you guess before these. Do you have a hint? Yes. A hint. Think of the song Revelations, but it's not Revelations, and try to think of that song in a different form on another record. I'll help you out with that a little bit. I know I get what you mean.

02:59:02.040 --> 02:59:28.760
It's the revelations of this record. And it's a great song. Yeah. And I didn't look it up. I know it just because I sing this song. I'm going to let probably George take it, but I'm thinking it's from Number of Evies. Is it Floating Things in Baby Blue? Yes. Yeah, sure. George, can you get it?

02:59:28.800 --> 02:59:54.520
Well, I know it's Seventh, off Seventh Son. You got it? So it's the Revelations off of Seventh Son. Revelations, yeah. Well, it's not called Revelations, but I mean, it's the Revelations song on Seventh Son. Revelation style song on Seventh Son. You know, I'm going, I'm trying to find the lyrics around it and the melody. I know these lines very well.

02:59:54.620 --> 03:00:24.600
I believe a spiritualist will me I'm neither can't be all coincidence too many things are evident infinite dreams yeah you were just about to drop it this just sounds to be one of my favorite lyrics all of that whole song so all right this one especially if you just watch that documentary should be not too hard for you there was a festival where Bruce was approached by

03:00:24.640 --> 03:00:53.380
Rod Smallwood and Steve Harris to ask him to join Maiden after Paul Deano had left. Bruce was still singing with Samson. And they had this conversation. How would you like your name to be Smallwood, by the way? Yeah, I know. Smallwood. And his first name is Rod. And they had this conversation about approaching him to be the singer. And underneath the one massive light at the top of a pole,

03:00:54.620 --> 03:01:24.320
This outside backstage area. And so the joke just sort of being like, oh, what do you think they're talking about? You know what I mean? Because everybody knew Paul Dino had left. Do you know what festival that was? It's an early famous English metal festival, New Wave of British Hang Metal. It predates... Yeah, and I should know this because I read his book, too. I actually read the whole book, but he doesn't actually talk about it in the book much. It's the name of a town.

03:01:53.740 --> 03:01:53.860
Pero es el nombre de la serie.

03:01:55.040 --> 03:02:24.600
asked him what his real name was and he said that's much better is your real name and then he said he gave him 20 bucks and said go buy a fucking leather jacket but if you know what uh what bruce named the name he was listed as on samson i i think george knows because he was laughing i said no because i i read the book and he talked about that bit but yeah he might not have talked about that specific no he did because he actually talks about in the book about how he went by this other

03:02:24.640 --> 03:02:53.540
their fake name for a little bit. I don't even know what it's fake. It's almost nicknamey, but what is it, George? Bruce Bruce. Bruce Bruce. Yeah, that was it. Bruce Bruce. That's it. That's all I got. All right. Where's my list? Okay. What is the proper way to listen to Dance of Death? Throw it out the window? Turn it all the way down.

03:02:57.301 --> 03:03:23.240
What was Blaze Bailey's band before Iron Maiden? It was like Wolf something, right? I don't actually know because I don't give a fuck. That's the only Blaze question I could ask. I know I left myself open to Blaze, but I did not leave myself pre-Brain. Well, you got it halfway. It's Wolf's Bane.

03:03:24.620 --> 03:03:54.600
There's a small side of him. I expected a better response from Will about the Black Album being thrown out the window. Well, it's nice that you're just calling it the Black Album. My buddy Jay... If you drink a bunch of Imperial Stouts and you take a shit, it's called a black shit. Sorry, it was Joe. My buddy Joe back in Fresno, he used to talk about how when the Black Album

03:03:54.620 --> 03:04:22.880
came out. He was like, you know, much older than me. And he went in to Tower Records, bought the Black Album on cassette, got in his car, drove like three blocks, was listening to it. And he's like, he got to like the third song and he ejected it and threw it out his window. And that was it. And his favorite band, by the way, is Anal Cunt.

03:04:22.880 --> 03:04:51.420
Nice. There you go. I want to interview that guy. Yeah. He's dead. George. Which song on Peace of Mind has a backwards message? It's shit. It's funny. I know the song, but I can't think of the name. Nightmares. Not the new. Non-new. Yeah. New. Yeah.

03:04:52.900 --> 03:05:22.440
Take a look in the... God, what's that song called? Exactly, that's the question. Peace of Mind, right? Yeah, it's from Peace of Mind. Isn't the album or the song? No, the song. There's not a song. It has the lyric, Peace of Mind. I think I know. All right, Will, what is it? Cameland? Nope. Still Life. Still Life. By the way, I heard Sunlight on Steel the other day. That's a good song.

03:05:22.900 --> 03:05:51.560
Yeah, it is. I didn't think of that. Is Opeth taken from that? Still life. Yeah. All right, last question. What famous Brit's final on-screen appearance was in the video for Can I Play With Madness? He's a comedian. What was that? Famous Brit, who was in the Can I Play With Madness?

03:05:55.619 --> 03:06:22.720
I hope it's one of the guys from Monty Python. Right, true or wrong guy. From Monty Python, it was... Hold on. Cracker. Fuck. Crackers. Trying to help you out. Yeah, Grant Chapman. Right before he died, right? Yeah, he died right after that. His last appearance was in Can I Play With Madness, and then he passed away. He was like,

03:06:22.880 --> 03:06:52.860
Very thin. Yeah, I didn't even recognize him until we were actually doing, I think it was Jay's Iron Maiden, Skull Crushers. And I read that and I was like, what? And I went and watched it and I was like, no shit, doesn't even look like him. Yeah, I still don't know it's him. All right, so since I mentioned it, I said I would list my, like mention my top five Maiden albums. What if why? Because I know this came up in a previous thing, but

03:06:53.940 --> 03:07:22.380
So my top five, and I feel really bad because of not being able to answer a question related to my number one, but I am not going to put Number of the Beast at number one, which is shocking. So my top five are Seventh Son. Yeah. That's five? My number one. Oh, I'm sorry. It's your number one. Yeah, right.

03:07:22.460 --> 03:07:52.420
My number one is Seven Sun. My number two is Matter of Life and Death. I agree with that. And I like that record. In this video, in the background, on mute, like yelling at me, screaming, pulling out weapons, shooting, whatever. My number three is Peace of Mind. My number four is

03:07:52.440 --> 03:08:22.400
Killers and my number five is Iron Maiden. Nice. I am big, by the way, Paul DeAnno fan. And I love... I chose Iron Maiden over Killers. That's kind of weird. Yeah. I chose Killers better than Iron Maiden. Oh, excuse me. I was distracted. I will just say this. The only thing, my only comment on that is that I used to say Master of Puppets, but I will say this. Not only is Number of the Beasts my favorite record, I think it's the best heavy metal record of all time.

03:08:23.280 --> 03:08:51.520
That's my number one. My issue with Number of the Beast is that I think that Gangling might be the worst song of all time. Do you know who wrote it? No, but what? Who's the last musician in your band you should write a song? What, your drummer? Drummer? Yeah, Clive Barker.

03:08:53.820 --> 03:09:21.360
It's terrible. It's terrible. It's so bad. It is so bad that I can't listen to that song because how bad that fucking song is. That's that Matter of Life and Death. I do want to talk. That is a great album. I was so annoyed that I did not get to see them play it live.

03:09:21.420 --> 03:09:51.240
The whole thing. They played it all the way through. I think they had two shows where they played it live and people were throwing eggs at them or something. They're like, we'll just cancel the tour. This album's a piece of garbage. Let's go back to the drawing board. I was at that Oz Fest. Were we at that together, Jim? It was the one right before the... At that point, I think I was somewhere else overseas.

03:09:53.180 --> 03:09:56.860
All right, let's move on. Yeah, let's do our what we're listening to.

03:10:21.440 --> 03:10:51.380
And we'll start with John. So let's see. I put some notes together. I need to scroll to it. All right. So most recently, I've been listening to the news, Ross and Blot. I think it's fantastic. Sure is. My head like constantly. It's not metal. I totally agree with the metal information.

03:10:51.460 --> 03:11:21.400
Influences and these are metal songs, blah, blah, converted to folk. But it's amazing. I think anybody interested in this should go listen to that episode of the Metal Heads podcast and just dive deep into Thrasenblatt. Yes. It's fantastic. Also, on the same day, the new Greta Van Fleet hit. And I just want to say I wish I was a over

03:11:24.679 --> 03:11:51.400
I went and listened to this after we talked about it because I had been planning to listen to it and I'd forgotten what they sounded like and I was like oh yeah the dude sounds like a girl because he sings so high I was actually talking to Geddy Lee the other day and Geddy Lee was like damn that dude sings high seriously like it's too much of a Zeppelin it's the lost Led Zeppelin record but not as good sorry I

03:11:51.400 --> 03:12:21.380
It gets under my skin. I get it. I get that they the thing is like they they grew up their dad basically said hey listen to all these Led Zeppelin albums and they basically were like let's make a Led Zeppelin album. Sure. And that they did. But that's cool. I mean like I honestly think everybody else so my argument here would be there's like

03:12:21.440 --> 03:12:32.980
B.I.

03:12:51.420 --> 03:12:56.720
at one point and a couple others but there's lots of bands that make the black

03:12:56.860 --> 03:13:04.540
sabbath album all the time one is gonna fucking go out and risk a led's up on album kingdom come

03:13:06.079 --> 03:13:13.380
do it but i will say this what i've heard about greta van fleet is they're the balls to try it and i think

03:13:13.380 --> 03:13:20.400
they do it pretty well i'm not a big fan of you know the whole genre but i'm not picking what i what i've

03:13:20.400 --> 03:13:22.580
They do a pretty good job.

03:13:23.699 --> 03:13:24.380
I agree.

03:13:25.040 --> 03:13:27.220
I think they do a good job.

03:13:27.420 --> 03:13:28.580
I have yet.

03:13:29.320 --> 03:13:30.440
What I want is more.

03:13:31.500 --> 03:13:33.140
Honestly, what I want is more.

03:13:35.380 --> 03:13:35.660
Tolkien.

03:13:36.960 --> 03:13:37.480
Yeah, sure.

03:13:38.420 --> 03:13:39.280
Get reals up on it.

03:13:39.640 --> 03:13:42.540
I want some more Tolkien and whatever, but that's about it.

03:13:43.400 --> 03:13:43.960
So anyway.

03:13:45.100 --> 03:13:46.520
Is there anything else on your list?

03:13:46.920 --> 03:13:47.460
I have.

03:13:48.760 --> 03:14:16.780
So I'm really into the new Aborted album. It's called Terror Vision. So I actually came across this album because I like the old 80s movie Terror Vision. And I know of this band, Aborted. And I checked it out and it's fucking good. This is a cool death metal album. Really interesting. Worth checking out.

03:14:16.860 --> 03:14:17.240
Yeah.

03:14:17.980 --> 03:14:24.460
So my other things are pretty much sort of the rest of the list is sort of the podcast stuff.

03:14:25.360 --> 03:14:27.160
So the new Skeleton Witch.

03:14:29.120 --> 03:14:30.800
I love this album. It's great.

03:14:31.660 --> 03:14:40.500
It would have been the best album ever if they would have just made their last EP a full album.

03:14:41.980 --> 03:15:11.140
I don't know why they didn't take the EP they did and just extend it. Because it was so good. All Father. Fantastic. I didn't know of this band before this one came out. I would just say both about both albums. The and all will be desolation and bless the earth with fire. They're friggin fantastic.

03:15:13.881 --> 03:15:41.940
I can see this this band is going to be on a lot of lists I'm guessing. Conan this album is amazing like so good I'm so stoked on Conan Existential Void Guardian it's like it's going to be huge this year I'm sure and it's great and then the other one is The Skull

03:15:41.980 --> 03:16:11.280
Endless Road to Turns Dark. I really like this album. The only thing I think about the skull is that I feel like King Goat does it better. I'm with you there. Yeah, I think we all agree on that. Actually, we didn't really do an honorable mentions on our top five this time, but I actually had King Goat Conduit.

03:16:11.980 --> 03:16:41.900
On my honorable mentions. Fine choice, yeah. That's a great record. I had a bunch of honorables, too. Oh, well. And I don't know if that's something we go into. The other thing I had on there was, we didn't mention it, but Gruesome in general. Mm-hmm. As a band. But King Goat does the skull better than the skull does the skull. I like this album. I'm going to keep listening to it.

03:16:42.761 --> 03:16:44.260
It's really good

03:16:44.560 --> 03:16:46.680
But by King Goat

03:16:47.960 --> 03:16:48.780
He's just

03:16:49.300 --> 03:16:49.900
They're just better

03:16:51.220 --> 03:16:51.700
Sorry

03:16:53.080 --> 03:16:53.280
So

03:16:53.940 --> 03:16:54.320
Cool

03:16:54.840 --> 03:16:55.040
Alright

03:16:55.280 --> 03:16:56.700
Let's get Matt's list

03:16:57.800 --> 03:16:57.940
Alright

03:16:59.580 --> 03:17:01.540
Heavy influence of post-metal

03:17:01.980 --> 03:17:02.980
This time period

03:17:06.200 --> 03:17:07.180
The first band

03:17:08.080 --> 03:17:09.560
I'm going to fuck up the last name

03:17:09.580 --> 03:17:39.520
I want them to be called Future Uses or it's Future Uses or something like that. It's Future Uses. It's like Bill and Ted. That's exactly what I was thinking. Future Uses. It's the Future Uses, dude. It's the evil us. I really enjoy this album. It's a little bit lighter than I was thinking. It's got a dude from, ah, shit, Intronaut. But yeah, good stuff. Some black metal from Belgium, a band called Absolutus. And out of Florida, some technical experimental postman.

03:18:05.841 --> 03:18:08.480
I'm still really digging the Crippled Black Phoenix album.

03:18:09.580 --> 03:18:38.880
It's interesting. Sumac, definitely. New horrendous. New behemoth. Still jamming the new Christian. Spent a lot of time listening to All of Pelican. Obviously the new Thrasenblatt. I think it's fabulous. Infestus. A band called Carpe Noctum from Iceland. Black metal. Decent. Some cross sludge called Erosion. And then a band called Realm of Wolves. I think they're from Hungary.

03:18:39.080 --> 03:18:39.640
I believe so

03:18:40.400 --> 03:18:43.180
and then to the band called treasonist I believe they're US

03:18:44.020 --> 03:18:44.420
and then

03:18:45.240 --> 03:18:47.480
from Malta this death metal band called

03:18:47.740 --> 03:18:49.500
abysmal torment and their album

03:18:49.510 --> 03:18:51.500
is called the misanthrope really enjoying

03:18:51.530 --> 03:18:53.460
that one so that's it for me

03:18:54.000 --> 03:18:55.060
cool so real quick

03:18:55.480 --> 03:18:57.360
what I'm listening to the

03:18:57.360 --> 03:18:58.720
go right album we mentioned earlier

03:18:59.420 --> 03:19:01.600
air apparent we mentioned high and fire

03:19:02.620 --> 03:19:03.140
horrendous

03:19:03.600 --> 03:19:05.360
marsh dweller we've mentioned all these titles

03:19:06.160 --> 03:19:07.240
for awesome lot

03:19:07.779 --> 03:19:37.120
But two we did mention was the new Wynhand, Eternal Return, which is pretty decent. I don't know what you think about it, Will, but I thought it was all right. Because I know Will likes Wynhand. And then the last one is a band. I have it, and I think I ordered it on, I have it on vinyl. Yeah, cool. And then the last one is a band called Solar Temple, Fertile Descent. I believe they're from Switzerland. They're kind of a post-black metal. I've still been meaning to listen.

03:19:37.260 --> 03:20:04.680
of that. The recording quality is not great, but the song's pretty cool. There's two songs on the album. What was that? Infernal Descent? Yes, Fertile Descent. Fertile Descent, okay. That's all I got. I got a lot more, but we've mentioned most of them already talking. Sure. Cool. Will? My first couple were vinyls.

03:20:07.260 --> 03:20:08.220
from Philadelphia,

03:20:08.810 --> 03:20:12.460
and I just realized that the guitar player I went to high school with,

03:20:13.940 --> 03:20:14.420
their new,

03:20:15.120 --> 03:20:15.560
not new,

03:20:15.680 --> 03:20:17.560
it's been out for about a year now called Renaissance,

03:20:18.600 --> 03:20:18.740
Renaissance,

03:20:21.600 --> 03:20:24.380
I got that on vinyl when they played Atlas the other night.

03:20:24.430 --> 03:20:25.220
And then Sumac,

03:20:25.520 --> 03:20:26.220
Loving the Shadows,

03:20:26.440 --> 03:20:27.140
got that on vinyl.

03:20:28.159 --> 03:20:28.600
Windhand,

03:20:28.730 --> 03:20:29.580
The Eternal Turn.

03:20:30.260 --> 03:20:31.920
Thanks for the free download.

03:20:33.250 --> 03:20:33.360
Well,

03:20:33.360 --> 03:20:34.460
I got it on vinyl.

03:20:35.030 --> 03:20:36.080
But I took your download.

03:20:36.660 --> 03:20:36.800
Oh,

03:20:36.920 --> 03:21:03.780
Oh, you got it? Okay, good. I think I did. No one ever replies to that stuff. I'm like, hey, I already bought it, but here's a free download card. Who wants it? And then I went back and saw that Monolorde on Bandcamp still had The Empress Rising on vinyls. I'm like, yes, please. It's my favorite Monolorde album. And then Outer Heaven, the night that their album debuted,

03:21:06.940 --> 03:21:36.780
The Realms of Eternal Decay. So I picked that up on vinyl straight from the band. And then a couple other ones not on vinyl, just stuff that you guys sent around or was in the box. Dead Bird, Buzzard. So Dead Bird 3, The Forest Within the Trees. And then Buzzard, Uncreation, which is one of the listeners. And then somebody mentioned Aborted and their new album,

03:21:37.900 --> 03:22:06.800
I think George may have sent this around tomb of Finland yep this is sort of like the who cannot get behind this album sort of thing uh the name of the album is frozen beneath and every time I see the word frozen I just think of the Disney movie and I wanted to fucking destroy things uh Matt mentioned earlier mourn to the night unknown and then my um my

03:22:06.840 --> 03:22:36.360
What do you call it? My Guilty Pleasure? Mutilated by Zombies. Their album, Scripts of Anguish. Total death band. And then all the things we mentioned before, the new Behemoth, the new Glacial Tomb, the new High on Fire, the new Horrendous Infestus, Slade. And goddamn you fucking Joel Violetta. For even when you make a fucking acoustic, folky,

03:22:36.860 --> 03:22:37.060
Canadian,

03:22:38.020 --> 03:22:38.160
Canadian,

03:22:38.520 --> 03:22:40.260
Irish ripoff of Irish,

03:22:40.600 --> 03:22:40.820
I don't know,

03:22:40.980 --> 03:22:41.060
whatever,

03:22:41.200 --> 03:22:41.980
whatever the hell this is,

03:22:42.280 --> 03:22:44.300
this thing is goddamn catchy.

03:22:44.900 --> 03:22:45.720
There's an earworm.

03:22:45.790 --> 03:22:46.460
And I was,

03:22:46.700 --> 03:22:48.360
we were talking about this before we went on air,

03:22:48.560 --> 03:22:54.800
but like I go to sleep and I wake up and I think of like the green man from East Canada.

03:22:55.880 --> 03:22:59.060
The name of the album is great Brunswick forest.

03:22:59.560 --> 03:23:01.420
And if you've not heard this album,

03:23:01.530 --> 03:23:06.200
just listen to the previous podcast when George travels all the way up to Canada.

03:23:07.100 --> 03:23:08.060
just to interview

03:23:09.479 --> 03:23:10.280
his BFF

03:23:10.300 --> 03:23:11.020
in the entire world.

03:23:13.440 --> 03:23:14.440
And that's all I got to say.

03:23:14.640 --> 03:23:15.080
So good.

03:23:16.680 --> 03:23:17.140
All right, Jay?

03:23:17.960 --> 03:23:18.820
I'll keep on pretty brief.

03:23:20.560 --> 03:23:22.380
I'm a little more generic than everybody else

03:23:23.140 --> 03:23:24.720
because a lot of what's come out

03:23:24.760 --> 03:23:26.460
that's pretty visible is actually really good.

03:23:26.580 --> 03:23:27.360
So I'm listening to those.

03:23:28.080 --> 03:23:30.000
Slate, the wheel, we talked about a little bit earlier.

03:23:30.680 --> 03:23:32.700
The High End Fire is getting spun

03:23:32.700 --> 03:23:34.320
by me pretty much every day, at least once.

03:23:34.900 --> 03:23:35.760
The Behemoth, likewise.

03:23:35.840 --> 03:24:04.900
I've been in that pretty much every day. Probably the only one, and then a million other things, but the one most worth mentioning is The Allfather, which has its grips in me hard. If anybody on the pod, you guys, has casually listened to this thing, you need to put it in two, three times, because it is a riff bomb, man. I've listened to it many, many times. I think I mentioned it in the last podcast, so I didn't mention it this time. Yeah, I love it.

03:24:05.580 --> 03:24:34.820
I hate to always throw these things out, but there's just no way this is not on my list. It's a great record. We're doing 65, so there's room for everything. I heard this. You guys were talking about them so much on that podcast, and I threw it on my phone and went on a run at lunch on work and listened to it almost twice.

03:24:34.960 --> 03:25:04.200
on the run. Just, it's so good. So good. And I never heard them before. And then I had to get their previous album because I was like, holy shit. Did you know we had them on the show for that album? Yeah, I think maybe it was that show that they were talking about that I heard it and I was like, I need to put this on. And then like the next day I put it on my phone and went for a run and was like, fuck, this is great.

03:25:04.960 --> 03:25:34.940
It's so good. It's a good album. Everybody needs to listen to this. I know Decibel rated it high, I think. But people need to download this album. Yeah. Reserves some attention. All right. Me? I like how you clear your throat like an opera singer. Okay, here we go. I'm going to go take a break. I know how this podcast goes. Yeah. If you need to go to the bathroom or take out a home loan

03:25:35.539 --> 03:25:36.420
or anything.

03:25:37.180 --> 03:25:38.380
Now's the time to do it.

03:25:38.860 --> 03:25:43.640
I am going to try and speed through this as quickly as possible because it is a really long fucking list.

03:25:45.879 --> 03:25:51.840
So I will really long list coming from a guy who said he has not been listening to metal for like the last six months.

03:25:53.879 --> 03:25:55.480
That was a decoy.

03:25:57.260 --> 03:25:57.980
All right, here we go.

03:25:58.800 --> 03:26:03.320
From a I'm not even going to say where these bands are from.

03:26:03.880 --> 03:26:06.360
I have a couple I want to comment on so I'm just going to be

03:26:06.800 --> 03:26:07.980
banned album title move on

03:26:08.600 --> 03:26:10.100
alright Aeternus

03:26:10.520 --> 03:26:10.800
Heathen

03:26:12.239 --> 03:26:14.580
Antiverse Under the Regolith

03:26:15.900 --> 03:26:16.720
which by the way

03:26:17.280 --> 03:26:19.420
I guess the main guy from this is from

03:26:19.840 --> 03:26:20.900
Minneapolis he's also in

03:26:21.120 --> 03:26:21.520
Enixorum

03:26:24.199 --> 03:26:25.160
Barus Drowned

03:26:26.220 --> 03:26:27.860
just check that one out today

03:26:28.240 --> 03:26:29.520
it's really good Blood Truth

03:26:30.020 --> 03:26:30.500
Martyrium

03:26:32.899 --> 03:26:33.860
Buzzard Uncreation

03:26:33.860 --> 03:26:37.620
to mention this because Ryan James, who is in this band, is a listener of the podcast.

03:26:38.480 --> 03:26:40.540
And he told me about his band.

03:26:40.720 --> 03:26:43.620
And I know several of us dig it.

03:26:43.840 --> 03:26:45.040
So well done, sir.

03:26:45.780 --> 03:26:50.200
Next, we have Cryptaria and their self-titled first album, Death Metal.

03:26:50.900 --> 03:26:58.520
Dead Nexus, Unfathomable, Dewfall, Hermeticus, Domcraft, Flood.

03:26:58.880 --> 03:26:59.880
These guys have a beer.

03:27:00.040 --> 03:27:00.980
Have you seen that, Will?

03:27:01.720 --> 03:27:31.380
I saw it at Downtown Crown. They have a beer for this album, apparently. Dungeon Hammer. Shit, I don't think I wrote down the album title for that one. Might be self-titled, might not. But it's Dungeon Hammer, and they're a very Celtic Frost-worshiping kind of band, so check that out. The name of the album is Bludgeoning Prisoners. Thank you. I forgot to write it down. Eschaton, Isolated Intelligence. Famine, self-titled album.

03:27:31.440 --> 03:28:01.380
That's F-A-M-Y-N-E. UK Doom. House of Atreus from the Madness of Ixion. More Minneapolis. Kriegsgrave. That's K-R-I-G-S-G-R-A-V. Leave No Path to Follow. Thank you for this next one, Will. Mutilated by Zombies. Scripts of Anguish. The Necromancers of Blood and Wine. Doom Metal. This next one surprised me

03:28:01.420 --> 03:28:28.420
because they just had an album out last year, I think. Necromant. The Necromant Lives. Second album, Doom. Norlsk. Weepers of the Land. Orkin Element. Outer Heaven. Realms of Eternal Decay. Another one that Will's going to like. He's throwing the horns. Owl. Knights in Distortion. Got that one from Matt. Pulverized Mountains of Misanthropy.

03:28:31.420 --> 03:29:01.380
Light, Realm of Wolves, Oblivion, another one I got from Matt, Sargeist, Unbound, Slate, The Wheel, from Jay, Suffering, the number 11, Suicidal Tendencies, still Psycho Punk after all these years, very good, them doing punk, another one that I just discovered today and I'm really liking, it may be pronounced Throne, but it's spelled D-H-E-N-D-O-N-D-O-N-D-O-N-D-O-N-D-

03:29:01.400 --> 03:29:29.460
R-O-N. And it's their second album called Abysmal. Black metal. German black metal. Tomb of Finland. Frozen Breath. Van Helgde Deimos Sanctuarium. Woebegone Obscured. The Forest Roamer. And finally, I'm going to say Yilva. Y-Y-L-V-A. The Would Beyond the World. And that's it! In under half an hour.

03:29:31.400 --> 03:30:01.280
It wasn't as bad as you thought. I mean, admittedly, I went to my happy place for a minute there, so I'm not entirely sure. That's because I didn't talk about most of them. You don't know what any of them are. You just have to go out sounding kind of cool. I'll look it up. I noted like three bands. What's that? I noted three bands. There you go. Yeah. You know, I don't put stuff on there that I hate. Obviously, there's a lot of stuff on there. I can't love them all. This is all stuff.

03:30:01.400 --> 03:30:31.280
that I liked enough that I thought was worth mentioning. You should tell a friend about it. Yes. You know, if you're looking for something new, there's a whole bunch of shit to try and check out. All right. We are here. Finally. It was almost one o'clock in the morning on a Wednesday night. Wednesday. I was surprised that you chose Wednesday. Well, the weekends just weren't working for anybody. Yeah. Weekends get rough sometimes. Yeah. It's tough. Well, it was a couple of us.

03:30:31.420 --> 03:30:31.880
of children.

03:30:32.530 --> 03:30:32.620
Yeah.

03:30:33.959 --> 03:30:36.200
I didn't know how I would schedule this.

03:30:36.720 --> 03:30:40.640
And then he was like, Wednesday, I was like, oh, my wife can't be that pissed

03:30:40.730 --> 03:30:42.580
if I just stay up past her bedtime.

03:30:43.060 --> 03:30:43.180
Yeah.

03:30:43.490 --> 03:30:43.580
Yeah.

03:30:43.580 --> 03:30:43.660
Right.

03:30:45.380 --> 03:30:46.680
That was cool of you to come on, though, John.

03:30:46.940 --> 03:30:47.080
Yeah.

03:30:47.210 --> 03:30:48.160
Thanks for coming on, John.

03:30:48.340 --> 03:30:48.800
Thank you, John.

03:30:49.260 --> 03:30:52.220
And I will see you before long.

03:30:52.720 --> 03:30:55.400
I'm looking forward to actually hanging out in person.

03:30:55.860 --> 03:30:56.120
Me too.

03:30:56.280 --> 03:30:56.940
It's been a little while.

03:30:57.300 --> 03:31:26.440
Will, you should take up that offer to go out to. I would love to. It's just not in the car. Not in your reality. Nevertheless, Philadelphia. I will be in Philly. I will be in Philly. Hang out. Yeah. And I'll bring some beers. I cannot wait till Despo releases the names of the bands for Philly. Me too. I'm excited.

03:31:27.300 --> 03:31:28.200
I'll talk about that in the next episode.

03:31:28.670 --> 03:31:29.280
Whenever that may be.

03:31:29.280 --> 03:31:31.460
Privyum and Shadow's Fall.

03:31:31.980 --> 03:31:32.520
Machine Head.

03:31:32.920 --> 03:31:34.000
Machine Head.

03:31:35.620 --> 03:31:36.800
There is one.

03:31:36.890 --> 03:31:37.340
There is one.

03:31:37.340 --> 03:31:38.460
I was telling George that.

03:31:38.460 --> 03:31:43.580
It's pretty high up there that we're all going to skip and go get beers.

03:31:44.340 --> 03:31:52.760
I was telling George that wouldn't it be great if Iron Maiden actually played a show in the U.S. with good other bands?

03:31:53.200 --> 03:31:53.400
Yeah.

03:31:54.840 --> 03:32:24.800
Because I'm really sick of seeing Iron Maiden with Steve Harris. Steve Harris' daughter. It's like the one time we saw Black Sabbath with Andrew C.K. W.K., whatever his name is. Exactly. That's the band Andrew and Louis C.K. did together. Andrew C.K. That other band that

03:32:24.820 --> 03:32:54.500
Millions Dead Cops or whatever was because the other guy, the guy was like, oh, I kind of want to really go see Andrew W.K. and I'm like, yeah, I'd rather go see that other punk band. He's got a weird following. Weird. All right, let's shut this shit show down. Yeah, let's shut it down, get some sleep. Thank you for coming on, everyone. Thank you for listening. We'll see you next time. Yep. Later. Later. The end.

03:32:58.699 --> 03:33:00.100
