Metal Heads Podcast Go.

00:00:41.020 --> 00:00:42.440
Hello and welcome to the Metal Heads Podcast.

00:00:42.800 --> 00:00:43.500
My name is George.

00:00:43.840 --> 00:00:44.320
This is Jay.

00:00:44.560 --> 00:00:45.020
This is Will.

00:00:45.340 --> 00:00:45.900
This is John.

00:00:46.420 --> 00:00:46.800
This is Matt.

00:00:47.000 --> 00:00:49.620
And we are joined today by the guys in Slaghead.

00:00:49.920 --> 00:00:52.320
Would you please introduce yourselves and tell us what you do in the band?

00:00:52.700 --> 00:00:54.580
I'm Steven and I'm the vocalist.

00:00:55.080 --> 00:00:55.620
I'm Andrew.

00:00:55.700 --> 00:01:25.220
I'm the drummer. And I'm Jaren. I'm the guitarist. Thanks for joining us, guys. Thanks for having us. You guys are from Virginia as well, but you're a little further down than Will and John. Whereabouts are you? Oh, we're down in Hampton. Hampton Roads, Virginia. Cool. So are you guys in the Hampton Roads area or are you actually in the city of Hampton? We're from the city of Hampton. Yeah. Okay. I spent three years down in Norfolk area. Gotcha. Sorry to hear.

00:01:29.300 --> 00:01:55.660
What a shit town. Do you go to that, what is that, the Nova Room or something like that? Or Norva? The Norva. Yeah. The Norva. That's not a bad venue. It's a great venue. Yeah, it's nice. I haven't been there, but I always see about bands going there, and I'm like, eh, it's just a little too far away. I've been there a few times. It's pretty nice. Yeah. Let's kind of jump in and start talking about the band a little bit. We had, first off, just to tell you guys, I had found your record late last year.

00:01:56.140 --> 00:02:25.560
I think it's probably the latest entry I've ever made into my top 25 last year. Did we do 25 this year? Yeah. Jay found you guys and he told me about you. You literally slipped in the day before we did the episode. I was like, slide them right in there. 25, but at least it's on there, right? Thank you so much, Matt. Seriously. Yeah, we dig it. First off, I want to talk about the record a little bit, where you recorded it, how you recorded it.

00:02:25.700 --> 00:02:54.960
But let's talk about how that band came together too. And your name, I think, is a bit of a unique name. So maybe talk about how you came up with your name as well. I know I gave you like four questions. Yeah, just start with one of them. I'll try and keep track here. Well, the band name comes from a Norman Spinrad novel called He Walked Among Us. It's a nickname the main character has for the people of our time. He claims to be a comedian from the future that he uses to make fun of us. It's a derogatory term.

00:02:55.040 --> 00:03:24.980
Median from the future. Yeah. It's a hell of a cool book. Bunch of slag heads. Yeah. Yeah. Exactly. That makes sense. So let's see. As far as how we started, I'm not sure how to answer that one. You and I were introduced by a mutual friend. Yeah. And we started jamming together, what, about four years ago now? Yeah, I think it was four. We started off, we wanted to be like a traditional do-off.

00:03:25.840 --> 00:03:54.140
And if you've heard the album, we started off writing... The first song was Proxima. So we were missing the mark pretty early on trying to be traditional. Yeah, we played it a lot slower at the time. Yeah. And tried to be Doom at first. That was one of the singles you released before the album dropped, right? Yes. Yeah. And then ADHD kicked in and a lot of weird time signatures and we missed the mark on being a traditional Doom band.

00:03:57.680 --> 00:04:25.000
Yeah, Encyclopedia Metallum lists you as a sludge band, but I don't really think that quite fits either. It doesn't, but I hit... Go ahead, go ahead. I was just going to say, you got to call yourself something. We decided on Progressive Sludge. I was going to say Progressive Sludge or Progressive Black Sludge, because the vocals are kind of a screechy black metal, which was like the first thing that caught me. Yeah, it's like, it's right on that verge between like black metal and

00:04:25.040 --> 00:04:25.880
And death metal.

00:04:27.040 --> 00:04:28.580
But it's not really fast.

00:04:29.100 --> 00:04:30.200
So it's kind of doomy.

00:04:31.539 --> 00:04:35.280
I looked at it as progressive, blackish, deathish.

00:04:36.180 --> 00:04:36.680
You know, it's funny.

00:04:36.680 --> 00:04:37.800
I was thinking.

00:04:38.480 --> 00:04:41.360
It was actually while I was listening to the album earlier today.

00:04:42.240 --> 00:04:52.740
And I thought it was funny that whenever there's a piece of music that we listen to and we're trying to shoehorn it into some sort of style, we're like, well, it's black metal.

00:04:52.980 --> 00:04:54.700
But it's not really quite black metal.

00:04:54.760 --> 00:05:24.540
So it's progressive black metal. Or it's progressive death metal. And so progressive has become this modifier that we just kind of tack on to things because it's like not quite that. So it's progressive. Well, I feel like there's a little, the slightest pinch of Mastodon in your, in some of your chord structures. And I don't know if you guys are Mastodon fans at all, but, and I would refer to the older good Mastodon. Yeah, we're all big Mastodon fans. We're sort of disappointed in them right now, but yeah,

00:05:24.620 --> 00:05:54.600
I hear a little bit in there, and I would call, you know, especially the first one a sort of progressive sludge record. Yeah, the first one for sure. Yeah. Okay, so I might be way off base on something. But is this a concept record? I don't have the lyrics or anything. It is. It is. It's the first of a three-album series. Well, that's not ambitious. Can you run through the concept for us a little bit? You know, I have to tell you, that much was...

00:05:54.640 --> 00:06:24.500
on my guess, but it seemed to me it was a concept record with no lyrics whatsoever in hand. So yeah, tell us about the concept a little bit. Okay. I'll just say it's a very loose concept because there's on each of the albums there will be on the first album, right? That we have. There's one directly related to the running story song. The rest are, I mean, there's a whole bunch of like literary references and they're like the rest of the songs do have their own narrative structure. You know, the whole,

00:06:25.600 --> 00:06:53.860
When he explains it, it makes more sense. I still wrap my head around it sometimes, and I'm just like, what's going on? But he's got it all planned out, I think. What do you want me to say? If this is like Game of Thrones, and you're not really sure how it ends, I'm out of here. No, no, no, no. It actually ends on the album you've already heard. The title track of Thanatanat is the main character of the trilogy, Dying. Which, by the way, is the name of the album. I don't think that's popped up yet.

00:06:56.719 --> 00:06:58.140
And pronounce it again.

00:06:58.920 --> 00:07:01.780
It's from Greek reads. It would mean Explorer of Death.

00:07:03.060 --> 00:07:05.120
I was going to ask what it meant.

00:07:06.180 --> 00:07:06.660
Yep.

00:07:07.080 --> 00:07:08.500
All my questions before I ask him.

00:07:11.040 --> 00:07:14.700
So, yeah, the title track of this one is actually the main character dying.

00:07:14.760 --> 00:07:18.460
And the whole album is loosely around the concept of entropy and death.

00:07:19.860 --> 00:07:49.820
The next album, which we're open about next year, will be Chrono Knot, Explorer of Time. Is this like an Elric Moorcock kind of out of sequence kind of thing? Not exactly. The main character dies while tripping backwards in time on an alien psychedelic. All right. It's backwards, but with a purpose, I guess. Right. I couldn't be happier by everything you're telling me. So there definitely is a Prague influence, then, if you're talking about psychedelics.

00:07:50.680 --> 00:08:19.780
Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. And then the third album is going to get the most into the main character with his backstory and him in the far future when this takes place, finding the first two albums and trying to find a way out of dying. Nice. That's awesome, man. Are the lyrics somewhere in one of your pages or something? I was going to say, Jay, you might want to take a look at Bandcamp. They're all there for you. Well, I think they have the lyrics for the two singles.

00:08:21.440 --> 00:08:26.420
I didn't see the lyrics for when you when you click on the main album I didn't see the lyrics.

00:08:26.440 --> 00:08:27.100
That's where I'm at.

00:08:27.560 --> 00:08:28.180
I literally better.

00:08:28.600 --> 00:08:32.900
But if you look at the two signals that the syncsin singles that came out before.

00:08:32.979 --> 00:08:33.360
Signals.

00:08:35.479 --> 00:08:38.260
I'm looking at all the lyrics right now for the album myself.

00:08:39.200 --> 00:08:39.740
Fuck you, John.

00:08:40.159 --> 00:08:41.440
You just click on the song.

00:08:41.440 --> 00:08:41.880
Thanks, John.

00:08:42.340 --> 00:08:42.940
You're welcome.

00:08:43.140 --> 00:08:46.140
There's a link on there that says lyrics next to each song.

00:08:47.100 --> 00:08:47.500
Okay.

00:08:47.900 --> 00:08:48.680
I didn't see that.

00:08:48.860 --> 00:09:18.580
Oh, right. Okay. Lyrics. Understood. Okay. Sorry, Jens. Okay. No. Oh, wow. I could have been so much more prepared, but I'm enjoying hearing the story in any case. Jay, I only know that because I looked today because I was like, I wonder what this song's about. Well, you know, who writes? Are you guys all writing? He's all lyrics. Yeah. The lyrics are me. Songwriting process.

00:09:20.540 --> 00:09:48.820
I don't mind telling you that I that um children of decay is was one of my favorite songs of the year last year it was a great song man burning sky thank you burning sky yeah that's a good one too George I'm big on burning sky myself yeah so how did Stephen and the bass player come into the fold oh uh the bass player is actually my cousin and I was living with him at the time and we nepotism nice yeah absolutely we couldn't find a basis and he like he owned a base and like kind of

00:09:48.860 --> 00:10:18.820
I looked around on it and we were like do you want to be in a band and he yeah probably made the fastest progress I've ever watched a musician make within the course of a few months getting ready to play in this band it was a remarkable thing to see yeah I play bass in a in another death metal band and what's the name of the band? Bama Stane yeah so good so and so I play bass in a touring death metal band and just seeing him progress on the bass like it's it's crazy he's just as good as me I think

00:10:18.820 --> 00:10:48.700
and a lot of stuff. There's a lot of things in the slide catalog that I can't play that he can just run circles around. It's really cool seeing how he's progressed in the short time he's been doing it. Sorry, I just want to back up. Vomit Stain? Yeah, Vomit Stain. Sorry, you said it very fast. Is that like some sort of German word? Vomit Stain? That's the other band I play with when I'm not with these guys. That's on Bandcamp too, isn't it? I think I listened to it. Yeah, plug it. Whoever's listening, you'll want to check that out too.

00:10:48.820 --> 00:11:17.660
What was that, Matt? I just have to say I love the name Slaghead, but any name that has vomit in it is amazing to me. Oh, absolutely. But, yeah, so Casey's your cousin. Yeah. So he's in the band, and then I joined because they came to me about two years ago trying to record this album, and probably like a couple days before they came to the studio, they fired their singer. Yeah. For reasons. Reasons.

00:11:22.220 --> 00:11:48.800
So anyways, they, uh, professional disagreements, right? Yeah. Professional disagreements. So, so they came in to record the album. And so the drum track, so what we did was we recorded all of it in my studio, which is two rooms in my house. And, um, I record a lot of bands, like local bands out of here. And so they came to me thinking like, okay, well, we're going to work with Steven to record this album. Um, we tracked it live in my

00:11:50.900 --> 00:12:18.740
And the drum takes that we got from that ended up making it to the album. We eventually overdubbed Guitars and Bass later. But we got about halfway through the recording process. They were still looking for a singer. It didn't look like the album was going to go anywhere just because it had been stagnant for so long. No one had been working on it. So I was just like, hey, let me do vocals on this record so I can get you guys out the door and you guys can move on to better things and actually get out there and get this album out. Because I really believed in it and it sounded really good.

00:12:19.200 --> 00:12:48.500
So I started practicing with the band to prepare for the studio to do my vocals. And we did 111, yeah. Yeah. And so it's I've been in the band ever since. I didn't expect to be a full time member, but I just I couldn't say no to the gig. It was the music's too good and I had to stick around. So yeah. So that's a great that's a great way to come together. And by the way, you did a great job on the sound and production of the record. So how long ago was the tracking done before?

00:12:48.840 --> 00:13:17.640
sat around. I mean, was it like, you know, a year ago or two years ago? Two and a half years ago. Yeah. It took us about two and a half years to finish this. Oh, wow. That's cool. I think it was early 2016. Yeah, it was February of 2016. Yeah. February 2016, we started and then we finished in, we officially finished in September of 2017. Okay. And then we released it two months later. So do you guys have a favorite song on the album?

00:13:18.840 --> 00:13:48.480
Being the drummer, my favorite is The Tower. It's just the heaviest. It's got a lot of the most complex stuff going on. It's in 5.4, which is always really fun to play. So yeah, I think The Tower, definitely. I'd go with the title track. It's long, it's varied, it's just a lot of fun to go through. I don't get bored playing that song, ever. Me, personally, I would say Behold of Pill Ship is my favorite. It's the most fun to sing. There's a lot of different parts I get to do.

00:13:48.820 --> 00:14:18.800
A lot of different effects I get to recreate, and it's a lot of fun to sing. Well, that's pretty cool. You know, George, you and I have named the songs that we kind of like on this, and they've all named their favorite song, and not one of them are the same, which I think says a lot about the quality of the record, doesn't it? I mean, yeah. There isn't just a standout track that everybody's like, that's the one. That's cool to hear from me, for sure, definitely. Thank you. I'm a fan of Proxima, but one thing

00:14:18.820 --> 00:14:48.800
I did like about it is that it's not like it's you know it's it's 10 tracks of eight minute long songs like it varies from like three minutes to seven minutes like it's they're digestible and and one of the things that we talk about quite a bit is like some you know you can get Bell Witch you know you can have an hour plus of music or you know you could have you know other bands where it's like okay here here's here's one half minutes music but you have like

00:14:48.820 --> 00:15:12.880
Weirdly enough, to me, it seemed like an old-school sort of style where it's like, okay, this song's three minutes, this song's four minutes. We have one seven-minute song, but it's not so long that it's tiresome. That's what I like about it. That's one of the things that I like about it. You don't get tired of it. We're going to be talking later about some albums that are incredibly long.

00:15:18.820 --> 00:15:20.900
a song is going to be when we're writing it.

00:15:23.040 --> 00:15:25.900
We're really careful not to discuss that.

00:15:26.080 --> 00:15:28.400
You just let songs be as long as they need to be.

00:15:28.400 --> 00:15:31.820
And if that's longer, if that's shorter, I don't give half a shit.

00:15:32.060 --> 00:15:32.800
We do cut songs.

00:15:33.120 --> 00:15:34.020
That's one of the things we will do.

00:15:34.660 --> 00:15:36.380
I think we've cut a little bit out of some stuff.

00:15:37.040 --> 00:15:37.660
Once or twice.

00:15:38.540 --> 00:15:40.380
You thought you needed to tighten it up or something.

00:15:40.720 --> 00:15:41.240
Yeah, exactly.

00:15:42.040 --> 00:15:43.180
This doesn't fit here.

00:15:44.019 --> 00:15:47.900
But we're never aiming for a certain length of song.

00:15:48.000 --> 00:16:16.900
Yeah. At any point in time. We don't sit down and say we want five minutes here and seven minutes, you know. Can you guys do me a big favor? Next time Iron Maiden wants to record a record, can you guys go to the studio with them and like, hey, I need to cut out the shit out. Empire of the Cloud is a great song. I was going to say. You didn't like Angel and the Gambler? Was that? You didn't like Angel and the Gambler with their nine choruses and whatever that is. I was going to say it's not like the Monolith album, the new one, where every song is seven minutes.

00:16:18.440 --> 00:16:47.700
That was a bit strange. Literally? Literally. There's seven songs and they're all seven minutes, so it's a 49-minute album. Okay. All right. It's probably some occult thing we don't understand here. Yeah, they've got some occult explanation for that. There's this whole thing with sevens. Yeah. That's what's about. So what music influenced the evolution of the Slaghead sound? It's just what you guys like, too. Yeah, well, I mean, you know, you said you started off sort of doomy and then it's kind of sludgy and, you know, so.

00:16:48.899 --> 00:17:17.620
When you started the band, what was your... The Melvins. Oh, right on. When we first started the band, absolutely, the Melvins was the most discussed band in the room. Yeah, we actually, I think the second, like, the very first thing we were like, oh, we need to cover that song, it was Crowbar. Yeah. So that was, like, in the beginning, we were like, yeah, I want to sound like the Melvins, there's some Crowbar in there. But I think over time, it just, like, we moved, like you said, Mastodon is a big influence.

00:17:18.020 --> 00:17:47.300
for a lot of us. Cynic. Cynic, for sure. Sure. Let me ask you this. You're Melvins fans. Do you like... All of it. George, what's the offshoot? What's the offshoot of the Melvins, George? Big Business. Big Business. Are you guys big business fans? I like Big Business well enough. The last two records were really good. But in any case, I digressed. But no, the first album they did with those dudes, AC and Isle Animal, is probably my favorite Melvins record. That was incredible.

00:17:48.020 --> 00:18:17.700
Twin Drums sets were just fucking heavy. Yeah. I'm a fan of Houdini. Yeah. Yeah. But as for like the evolution of sound, speaking on the end of the drums, I've actually never really thought I'd get into like a metal band because I've had some formal training on the drums, but it's all in like funk and jazz and stuff like that. So a lot of my favorite drummers are like Steve Copeland. And of course Neil Peart.

00:18:18.000 --> 00:18:47.080
stuff like that. So I think a lot of the weird stuff and proggy influences came from more of the funk jazz stuff. So trying to put that into metal, I think that's probably where, like on the Burning Sky, that kind of off-time, syncopated, kind of a Latin feel drum. So that's probably where I pulled a lot of that influence from, more proggy, old school drummers.

00:18:47.480 --> 00:19:17.200
You know, I regret there was a point and I won't be able to find it, but there was a one thing that you do on the record, You in particular, and it's this really kind of cool thing you do with the ride cymbal in one of the songs, and I meant to pick it out of the exact spot so I could say, "Hey, at 3:30," or you know what I mean, on such and such. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It'll do no good since I didn't write it down, but... I appreciate the... Thanks for pointing stuff out. That's what I like. A lot of drums, especially, like, they like a lot more of the black metal scene, and I can listen to it.

00:19:17.480 --> 00:19:46.860
But if I'm going to listen to something, I really appreciate it. I pick out the drums on a lot of the albums I listen to. And that's why I'm not a huge fan of a lot of black metal because it's just, you know, Blasby. He says that. But every time I play black metal around him, he's like, this is good. What is this? I can listen to it. But it's not like I'm going to sit down and like, oh, that was, you know, that was cool what he did. So that's what I try to do in, you know, what I write is try to throw in stuff that people will pick out and be like, that was cool.

00:19:47.220 --> 00:20:17.180
But that was really clever what you're doing on just the symbols here or just moving back and forth from the symbols in the snare or something like that. Do you give crap to bands that use drum machines? You sure? As you probably should. No, yeah, no, yeah. Feel free. We're not getting ready to let you know we have a drum machine band going on. It depends on how it's implemented. If you're going to throw a drum machine on and just use that as a primary thing, like that's all you're using in the drum machine.

00:20:17.240 --> 00:20:47.200
is not really doing much else. That's a little bit... I think some were talking about things like agoraphoric nosebleed, where it's just straight on. Yeah, exactly. Oh, no, no, no. Yeah, that's not my thing. Yeah, but they... I'm friends with the guys in... Yeah, so I'm agoraphobic. Oh, I thought you were going to say Big Distur. Well, I'm friends with both of them. And the point being is that they know it's tongue-in-cheek because Dave Witte, who is the drummer in...

00:20:47.220 --> 00:21:17.160
Municipal Waste, when he was at the Metal and Beer Fest last year, he got his picture with the drum machine from the Gorefark Noseley. And he's like, Richard Johnson, who's one of the lead singers, he's like, yeah, it was all tongue-in-cheek. They know it's a drum machine. It's not like they're trying to fake it out or anything like that. So I guess there's different ways to look at it, I guess.

00:21:18.500 --> 00:21:46.340
I'm trying to defend my friends and my girlfriend knows the lead. At the same time, we know it's a drum machine. We're not trying to hide anything. It's a drum machine because we want a drum machine. There's other people who use a drum machine when they're recording. What about Godflesh? They use a drum machine, don't they? Was it Rings of Saturn? I wasn't that. You can go down the rabbit hole. You can go down the rabbit hole.

00:21:47.240 --> 00:22:17.120
last episode, we had Gage from Nairamarth on, and he used drum machines on his album. And personally, I mean, I don't sit around trying to discern one from the other, but I wouldn't have guessed had I not known. As a producer, I would say my favorite album that uses drum machines would be 666 International by Dodd-Himesgaard. Oh, yeah. Oh, George. Oh, man, you gotta say Dodd-Himesgaard.

00:22:17.940 --> 00:22:47.200
I love that album. MDF this spring. It has a controversial record for some people, but I love that record. I think it's, you know, it opened up a lot of doors for me. Like, you know, oh, you can do this, you can do that. Because if they can do it, you know, all bets are off, right? There's a lot of it that just sounds really terrible, but there's a lot of it that it just works and it's great. And there's something really raw about it. I think it's cool if you take a drum machine and mutate

00:22:47.220 --> 00:23:17.200
and make it ugly and like intentionally like but if but if you're using a drum machine and trying to pass it off as a person as if like nope nope we have a drummer then it's kind of weak yeah all i can talk about is are the songs good that's all i give a shit about if you use drum machine if you don't are the song is good that's all i give a shit right the song is key but uh i'm gonna go off on my summoning rant again guys yeah yeah the drummer is over there like shut up can we talk about something else please but uh you know um i i have i do have

00:23:17.220 --> 00:23:47.180
with something else, which is your artwork on the album cover. Moonroot, who's this? Is this one of you guys? Or did you actually have somebody do the cover? Moonroot is a guy we found on Facebook. He lives in the Czech Republic, and he does these fantastic hand paintings. And he works with a lot of science fiction novelists, some other bands who would be similar to us, like Black Puddle. He does logos. He's just a great dude who puts out some

00:23:47.200 --> 00:24:17.140
Awesome work and beautiful. He's very, very talented with acrylic paints and he just goes to town and yeah. So we. That was a, yeah, that was a, it was a hand painted piece he did and we commissioned it from him. You can look forward to more art from him on the next trip. I was going to say it definitely it's, you can tell it's hand painted. And my question was going to be, is like, is that like part water cutter, part water, uh, watercolors and something else? Because there's,

00:24:17.220 --> 00:24:47.180
like a fade in it in some places where it looks like it was almost watercolors. Yeah, I'm not 100% sure exactly what all the mediums he used was, but I know he loves using acrylic paints. You know, I'm coming out as a moron right now. You're coming out? Yeah, I'm coming out. Watch out, I take large steps. We all do already. I just noticed that slag head turned upside down as slag head. Oh, it's an...

00:24:47.260 --> 00:25:17.040
I call it Ambigram. That is pretty cool. Well done, Kevin. Yeah, that's always fun. The first time we got our logo shirts made, we just have black shirts with our logos on the front. And so I think it was you. One of us, we got the box and he opens up the box and says, oh, fuck. I was like, oh, we just spent $200 on it. What's wrong? Yeah, the logo's upside down. I did it all over again. I did it all over again with the discs when we got the albums in because I saw the logos right.

00:25:17.060 --> 00:25:47.040
The album title's upside down, and I'm freaking the fuck out for it. It doesn't. Never gets old. It doesn't. Nice. Will I do that logo? Yeah, the girl I'm dating is an artist, and she did the logo as well, and she also did the art for our other shirts as well. I don't know if we need to get a merch post. I was going to ask you, are the merch is not on the page, I guess? No, coming soon to the interwebs, but we sell them at our shows. Excellent. So how about that? How often are you

00:25:48.160 --> 00:26:15.200
I would play about twice a month usually. Three times a month usually. Are you open to some bands coming through? Are you open for some bands? Or is it largely just go out and play a show with bands in your area? A bit of both. A bit of getting out of the area. It really just depends. We're playing Fredericksburg tomorrow night with Illuvion, Second Guard, The Architect's Hand. Where are you playing at Fredericksburg? It's called The Rec Room.

00:26:18.120 --> 00:26:47.040
Yeah. Could almost go. Have you guys played DC at all? DC area? We should. Yeah, we really need to. No, we have not played DC yet. Well, I know a guy who books shows at a brewery out there. Yeah. Oh, that would be awesome. That's Will. That's me. Hi. Hi. Hi. I would love to come out for sure. I'm definitely trying to be playing out of town more often. Yeah. Well, we

00:26:47.080 --> 00:27:14.660
I work at a brewery and we book shows at the brewery. In fact, we, you know, they're like two times a week almost at this point sometimes. And so, yeah. You're getting some names, though, too. Well, you're getting some cool bands. Yeah, look, the Skull. We just had the Skull play there. I've heard good things about their shows. I haven't heard it. That's a good band name, though. Just straightforward. Well, it's the old school Trouble. From Chicago.

00:27:17.160 --> 00:27:47.040
as a skull. You'd actually like them. They're an early Doom band. Yeah. If you don't know them, then you should know them. There you go. Yeah, we got a bunch of... Iron Regan played there. We got Temple of Voids coming up. We got Conan playing. Jesus. By the way, Temple of Void was my biggest misfire from my list. I have listened to that so much since the year

00:27:47.080 --> 00:28:17.040
turned over and so I'm fucked now can't go back yeah you can't go back I did a list I forgot half a dozen records I wished had been on it it's easy to do yeah there were so many good albums this year yeah it was a good year anyway the point being is gentlemen if you ever want to play up in the DC area hit me up we we book shows at the Atlas Brew Works brewery in northeast DC all the time okay very cool hearing from us on that yeah you can find Will on Grindr

00:28:18.140 --> 00:28:18.620
Yeah.

00:28:20.480 --> 00:28:23.440
You guys, so you were talking about the second record in the...

00:28:23.560 --> 00:28:24.640
Ivy City, Big Will.

00:28:26.860 --> 00:28:28.460
Antacosti, Glory Hole, Big Will.

00:28:29.000 --> 00:28:30.060
Mexican Cartwheel.

00:28:30.340 --> 00:28:30.760
Big Will.

00:28:31.880 --> 00:28:35.300
Did you, when do you think you'll get that second part of the trilogy out?

00:28:36.560 --> 00:28:37.520
The goal is 2019.

00:28:38.280 --> 00:28:40.160
Yeah, probably late 2019.

00:28:40.840 --> 00:28:41.280
Hopefully.

00:28:42.180 --> 00:28:42.820
That's the game plan.

00:28:42.980 --> 00:28:43.120
Yeah.

00:28:44.000 --> 00:28:46.240
Did we want to talk about EP?

00:28:46.820 --> 00:29:16.240
Yeah, we're also trying to have an EP out by the end of this year. Tell us about it. Maybe that was it, but I mean... It would be just us, and I think we're working on something that would be not at all part of any of the storyline that we're working on with the trilogy. Nah, it's... I think four or five songs we're trying to do. We have a loose idea for what we're going to do with it. We're starting on some songs. We've been pretty heavy on writing lately.

00:29:16.300 --> 00:29:45.880
Oh yeah. So cool. We just want to do something that was outside the story. Cause we keep having ideas, but they don't always fit into what we're doing. The five 98 EP. Is that, is that one too old? That's why I didn't know it. Yeah. We don't like, we don't like sucky music. I'm sorry. We were born after the black.

00:29:46.300 --> 00:29:47.120
after the Black Album.

00:29:48.040 --> 00:29:49.160
Yeah, when were you guys?

00:29:49.540 --> 00:29:50.360
When did that come out?

00:29:50.740 --> 00:29:51.100
91?

00:29:51.760 --> 00:29:52.800
Yeah, you were then.

00:29:52.860 --> 00:29:53.500
I was born before.

00:29:53.840 --> 00:29:54.800
I was born in 90.

00:29:55.020 --> 00:29:55.320
91.

00:29:55.660 --> 00:29:56.540
I was born in 90.

00:29:56.840 --> 00:29:57.440
I was born in 91.

00:29:57.500 --> 00:29:57.900
All right, guys.

00:29:59.720 --> 00:30:05.280
So if you don't know, if you think Metallica sucks since you were born, yes, that's true.

00:30:07.670 --> 00:30:10.500
I can appreciate a lot of their, especially a lot of their stuff.

00:30:10.730 --> 00:30:13.300
The older stuff is absolutely fucking amazing.

00:30:13.880 --> 00:30:14.800
The only thrash fan.

00:30:15.240 --> 00:30:16.460
And they sucked.

00:30:16.860 --> 00:30:20.680
You know, there was an Apple TV, or not Apple, Apple Music commercial on earlier tonight.

00:30:22.500 --> 00:30:25.300
And they like flashed through the Master of Puppets album cover.

00:30:26.240 --> 00:30:31.820
And I said something to my wife and I was like, oh, there's a Master of Puppets thing on there.

00:30:31.820 --> 00:30:32.520
And she's like, what's that?

00:30:32.570 --> 00:30:35.700
And I was like, well, it's the biggest selling.

00:30:35.780 --> 00:30:37.000
And I was like, no, it's not the biggest selling.

00:30:37.420 --> 00:30:38.140
Well, it's the most popular.

00:30:38.380 --> 00:30:39.360
It wasn't the most popular.

00:30:39.610 --> 00:30:43.920
Okay, it was the best album that any real Metallica fan is going to like.

00:30:45.000 --> 00:31:13.420
You know, by the way, one of you guys just said that you can, what did you say? I think you said, I can appreciate that or something. I can appreciate it. Yeah, I can appreciate a lot of the older stuff. I just want you to know that's what you tell your grandfather when he's watching a Marx Brothers movie. You're like, no, grandpa, I can appreciate that. You shut your whore mouth. The Marx Brothers are amazing. I'm a Marx Brothers fan. I can see the value in it. We're just making fun of ourselves because we're old. I can see why. But I'm glad to hear you're a Marx Brothers fan because I'm a huge Marx Brothers fan. Jay, what kind of tea are you drinking?

00:31:13.960 --> 00:31:14.900
I fucking will.

00:31:15.860 --> 00:31:16.820
But what it's worth, I just ate.

00:31:16.920 --> 00:31:17.460
I just ate.

00:31:17.540 --> 00:31:18.680
If I drink beer now, I'm not going to eat.

00:31:18.880 --> 00:31:20.900
It's late enough in California, you can start drinking.

00:31:21.100 --> 00:31:21.200
Come on.

00:31:21.340 --> 00:31:21.980
No, it's just water.

00:31:23.620 --> 00:31:24.300
It's a green.

00:31:24.660 --> 00:31:25.720
That's why I'm drinking my own.

00:31:27.140 --> 00:31:27.920
You're drinking your own wine?

00:31:28.040 --> 00:31:28.640
It's very sterile.

00:31:29.180 --> 00:31:29.860
That's just a question.

00:31:30.780 --> 00:31:31.820
Yeah, I mean, it's sterile.

00:31:32.540 --> 00:31:32.960
Yeah, right?

00:31:33.380 --> 00:31:33.440
Hello?

00:31:33.720 --> 00:31:34.960
You can survive on it.

00:31:35.460 --> 00:31:38.160
George, you had a question before Will decided to accost me.

00:31:38.340 --> 00:31:43.440
Yeah, I wanted to circle back to talk about the local scene down there.

00:31:43.720 --> 00:32:09.940
Is there much of a metal scene in your area? And aside from that, are there any other bands in the area that you like or would recommend? I'd say there's definitely a growing scene down here over the last few years. Yeah, there's always been one. It just kind of comes and goes with how invested people are in it.

00:32:13.720 --> 00:32:43.680
with a lot of like hardcore bands and um well now it's kind of like we're seeing a lot more deathcore and uh death metal and punk and grind um but some really good ones too yeah murder and ancient torture techniques for grind are both fantastic um um and then in the death metal scene there's my band and then um there's some other ones like rotten they sound like

00:32:43.720 --> 00:33:13.560
Like Death. Yeah, they're really cool. I recorded them too. Archea Beast. Yep, Archea Beast is really cool. I like them. I like them a lot. But yeah, but there's a pretty good local scene between the Virginia Beach area and all the way up to the Richmond area, that whole stretch of road. I was just going to ask if you do the Richmond thing. Yeah, Richmond and between, on Interstate 64 between Richmond and Virginia Beach, that's kind of where the scene is. It's that those two cities and everything in between, everyone.

00:33:13.720 --> 00:33:15.700
It just kind of comes and goes between the two cities

00:33:16.150 --> 00:33:17.560
and but I mean

00:33:17.700 --> 00:33:19.600
Richmond has its own style and like Norfolk has its

00:33:19.630 --> 00:33:21.800
own style like what's in and stuff but like

00:33:22.580 --> 00:33:23.720
but there's tons

00:33:24.000 --> 00:33:25.520
of places to go see live music

00:33:25.760 --> 00:33:27.660
and I'm constantly

00:33:27.920 --> 00:33:29.600
surprised about how many bands I never knew

00:33:29.800 --> 00:33:29.940
about

00:33:31.660 --> 00:33:33.700
you know even just locally

00:33:33.960 --> 00:33:35.220
it's pretty crazy everybody

00:33:35.900 --> 00:33:36.960
it seems has a band down here

00:33:37.720 --> 00:33:39.740
I think the only band I

00:33:39.880 --> 00:33:41.680
know that I'm aware of down there

00:33:41.750 --> 00:33:42.579
is Freedom Hawk

00:33:43.700 --> 00:34:11.679
Are they still? Maybe not. I don't know. They're not super active, probably. Yeah. I've heard of them. I'm sure. They're from the Virginia Beach area, so that's the only band I know from that area besides you guys. What are some of the records you guys liked last year? You mentioned that you made a list. You've been stealing my questions all night, Jay.

00:34:13.640 --> 00:34:42.379
That was my last one, so go for it. My favorite album of the year was probably the new Lapras. Melina. I goddamn adored that record. John's nodding like, yes. Keep going. What metal albums did you like last year? Still more metal than Clutch. Oh. Fighting words.

00:34:43.840 --> 00:35:12.140
I miss it when you used to record when we were here together, John. Well, you can just tell me to come over and I'll come over. Wow. I got my in-laws here tonight. I know. That's why I stayed home. Go ahead. Name a couple more records. Dune. The Dune album. What was that called? Roxas or something like that? That was the D-V-N-E. Yeah.

00:35:12.600 --> 00:35:42.560
I thought that was absolutely fabulous the new elder was of course really good I was well it wasn't as good as more now elder it's still I don't think it was as good as Laurie there I doubt they'll touch Laurie again that album was yeah I mean but a lot of people freaked out over people I don't want to came out people are gonna be like record of the year right here even though I just couldn't it's just kind of boring with it the way I did the last one yeah that's how I feel I don't think it was boring but it was just it was like the same thing yeah it wasn't bad it just was like

00:35:42.600 --> 00:36:11.920
It grabs you from the very beginning and doesn't let you go. And this one didn't do that. It was still a really good record. I liked Bell Witch a lot. Yeah, well, we had mixed reactions to that, but I loved Four Phantoms. It was my favorite record of that year. And then this one, I mean, obviously it's a challenging record and I did like it, but we also all agreed that it requires a lot of you. It does, yeah.

00:36:12.700 --> 00:36:18.660
I had the best album artwork I have ever seen.

00:36:19.060 --> 00:36:21.340
That was our number one artwork last year.

00:36:22.660 --> 00:36:27.780
We did a top five artworks this year just because of that record,

00:36:28.020 --> 00:36:31.080
because we all wanted a chance to say this fucking record covers rules.

00:36:31.720 --> 00:36:32.820
Yeah, it was really cool.

00:36:33.340 --> 00:36:35.020
That was the first thing you noticed about it.

00:36:35.020 --> 00:36:36.120
Didn't the Ordos album come out?

00:36:36.120 --> 00:36:37.640
Yeah, Houses of the Dead.

00:36:37.940 --> 00:36:38.840
Oh, Ordos.

00:36:39.720 --> 00:36:40.720
Yeah, that was last year.

00:36:40.980 --> 00:37:09.760
That album was a perfect record. When I pitched Slaghead to these guys, because we all find so much stuff that it's hard to get through the noise and get somebody to listen to one. But I mentioned, I said, I think if you like Ordos, you'll like these guys. Even though you're not deeply, deeply Ordos-like, but we love that record. Some of us. I thought it was fabulous. It did not charm George. Will and I were. Jay and I were big fans of the last Ordos records.

00:37:11.000 --> 00:37:39.880
Even though George says he told us about it first. I did. We heard about it from John. Are you sure about that? I am. I went back and found the episode that I said it in. I love this. I love this so much. I bought it on vinyl from Sweden. Sweden's got more than a few really cool sludge bands. Have you checked out Kong?

00:37:41.000 --> 00:38:09.720
K-O-N-G-H. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. That's, yeah. Duh. Very good time. No, they're pretty awesome. The other one from last year I'd really like to mention. Isn't Artificial Brain? Well, yeah, Artificial Brain was, of course, amazing. But no, Morcobot from Italy. I've been a huge fan of for a really long time. They're one of my bigger influences. Spell that one. M-O-R-K-O-B-O-T.

00:38:11.000 --> 00:38:40.300
Yeah, Drummer and Two Bassists, instrumental, and their new album I thought was absolutely fantastic. They finally... This is the first album with Jacopo. No, it was their second, but they really found a way to bring in his playing and take it in some more... How did you do that? Yeah, how did you do that? On the... Sorry, they just flashed MorcoBot on the screen. You know how they did it, Will?

00:38:41.359 --> 00:39:10.960
Yeah, we're like, what? Can you see me? Hello! Can you see me now? Bottom right-hand corner, there's a little thing. You can open conversation, and then you can type something, and then when you're done, you hit it again, and it closes. We'll do it again. I didn't see it, but it sounded like it was cool. Oh, maybe that's just new, because we've done the conversation thing before. It just never showed up on the screen like that. Yeah, so in the normal

00:39:11.000 --> 00:39:40.860
I think that's a type chat thing. You can just type stuff, say hi, and then on our screen it'll say what we said. Neat. Fucking shit. What about you guys, but my life just got 20% better. Yeah. See, I'm older than everybody. You know, all of it. I feel like that's the only way we'll learn is talking to young folks like ourselves. Yeah, see, Jay, you gotta be my age where you just say that's just too much multitasking. I'll stick to just sitting here and talking into a mic. I'm gonna continue.

00:39:41.000 --> 00:40:10.960
When you're old like you, John, you just say. I feel a change. A change. So have you guys looked up the word slag in the Urban Dictionary? I kind of mentioned it before, but no one heard me. I'm slightly familiar with the word slag. I did once, actually, because I was trying to figure out what a slag was before I knew about the book. I thought it was like leftover metal from like... Yeah, but I'm pretty sure it's a British term for...

00:40:12.180 --> 00:40:38.900
There's a couple of things. Yeah, stony waste matter separated from metals during the smelting. Yeah, when you make a steel, whatever carbon source you're going to use is going to have some impurities, and when you build it with iron, it's the impurities. Yeah, but I'm looking in the Urban Dictionary now, and I think what Will wants you desperately to know is that in the Slag Dictionary, it's an individual. There's a military aspect of this, and there's a European dirty war aspect of it.

00:40:41.000 --> 00:41:10.560
He cares not for relationships beyond the realm of the sexual. Oh, okay. A slag. A slag of molten lava. Like if you have an explicitly formed projectile blowing through your tank, the molten projectile, the shape charge which inverts itself and blows through the tank. Yeah.

00:41:11.000 --> 00:41:40.960
is called a slag. Basically, it's a whole lot. That's right. It's phosphorus, isn't it? Hey, Will, you just said a form projectile. Is that code for something else? In the Marines, everything's code for that. Yes. Yeah, pretty much. I didn't know this was a cam show, too. I'm retired now. Yeah, yeah. George, you must have some more questions there since we've been stuck in all of your questions. No, you

00:41:41.640 --> 00:42:10.920
This is the first time that almost all of them have been gotten to before. Either the band brought them up or you got them ahead of time. So cheers to you. Nailed it. I read your mind. Anything else that you guys want to tell us exactly about the band? What's coming up? Shameless plugs. Everything. Yeah, where people can get your stuff. We should say that. How do you spell it? Yeah, the album's up on. Like everything. That's all one word.

00:42:11.000 --> 00:42:39.940
We're up on Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes, Bandcamp. Made it really easy to find. There's actually a video for Children of Decay y'all mentioned earlier up on YouTube. I did not know that. We'll have to check that out. You guys sticking around, aren't you? Yeah, absolutely. Twitter, Instagram, Facebook. Facebook. We have a Twitter. I've never updated it.

00:42:40.980 --> 00:43:10.500
Yeah. Perfect. That's perfect for us. Well, I'll tell you what. I would say update it because we'll probably tag you after this. Yeah, when we post it, we'll tag Facebook and maybe the Twitter. Yeah, we get a fair amount of listeners, so there should be some traffic coming. Yeah, there's like five or six truckers out there. Score one for the old guys. We use Twitter and they don't. Yeah, true. Or maybe Twitter's old. None of us use it, do we? No, yeah.

00:43:11.940 --> 00:43:40.920
I have an Instagram, but I think it's under Slaghead Drummer, but I think I have five pictures on there. And it's all drum related. One of each of your drums. That's pretty much all it is. Now that you know that we don't have our act together. Yeah. No, no, no. After that thing you just did on the Skype, trust me, there's nothing you could ever do to make this thing. Did we cover MySpace at all? It's such a shame what happened to me.

00:43:41.000 --> 00:44:10.040
You know what? You're not saying much, Matt, but you're making it worth it when you do it. Is that on the Netscape? I think it's a GeoCities thing. I remember using Netscape once. All of these things were better for music than Facebook. That's true. I find more good music on Pornhub than I do on Facebook. I think we're going to move on, Dan. Not to take any slaghead time away from you guys, but I feel like we kind of covered it.

00:44:14.720 --> 00:44:40.940
We'll thank you again at the end of the episode. But I do want to say again that your record was just a happy accident to run into it, as often happens on the airman. And we were really impressed. And I really dug your record a lot. I was listening to today. Yep, me too. I love the happy accident. Nice work. Nice work, guys. Well, thank you. We appreciate that. And while 2019 may be a while away, we'll have you back on when that happens.

00:44:41.000 --> 00:45:10.960
That second one comes on too. Sounds good. Awesome. All right. So we're going to move on. Yep. Why don't we get into the news? This first one I thought was kind of funny. Ozzy has announced the No More Tours 2. Now I remember when No More Tours 1 was

00:45:10.980 --> 00:45:40.940
a thing. And that was when Ozzy said he wasn't going to tour anymore. Well, that didn't stick for very long. Wait, did he call it No More Tours 1? No, it was just called No More Tours. But sort of like, you know, the Great War wasn't called World War I until World War II happened. Right. Yeah, and also I would point out that I believe there's a movie called The Never Ending Story 2. Yeah. Well, that kind of makes sense because it just keeps going. But, you know,

00:45:40.980 --> 00:46:10.140
You know, in my experience anyway, the No More Tours was the first time that we learned you can't trust any of these fuckers when they say they're retiring because, you know, it was like two, three years later, there he was again. And now people are saying that about Slayer. No More Tours? Yeah, I thought it was because there was the play on the, yeah. I guess Sharon's bank account is getting low. Get back out there, Ozzy.

00:46:10.860 --> 00:46:39.660
You said that KISS was the first ones to do it, is that? That I know of, yeah. I'm pretty sure KISS were the ones. Well, I think the Who have had about 12 farewell tours. They're allowed. They're the Who. Yeah. Fair enough. Who? Point taken. Yeah, I'll just say this. In my mind, Ozzy's been all eased up for a long time, so whatever. I'm not interested in one way or another. That's a word for it, yeah. Is it actually the Ozzy hologram now? Yeah. He's like, go ahead, just put all the hologram on and stay home and play video games.

00:46:40.860 --> 00:47:10.760
If he promised not to play anything after No Rest of the Wicked, I'd be like, okay, maybe I'll go check it out. Well, it's funny because he's already said, well, I don't mean I'm quitting. He's like, I'll still do maybe some albums and I might do the odd show in here or there. Well, what's the fucking point? But anyway. If people at my work retired and came back every once in a while just to fucking eat in the lunchroom, I'd be like, fucking dude, go home. You know what I mean? Sharon needs money. That's what it is.

00:47:13.680 --> 00:47:39.980
So Cliff Burton is to be honored with Cliff Burton Day on February 10th, which is tomorrow, on Cliff's 56th birthday in Castro Valley, California. Pop quiz, do you guys know who Cliff Burton is? Original basis to Metallica. All right, just checking. And I hope that's not coming off as condescending. It's just... Well, it did. I didn't know. I didn't know. I'll be honest. No, it's okay.

00:47:41.740 --> 00:48:09.980
Yeah, we don't always... Sometimes we take things for granted that other people just don't. So it's sort of a reality check for us, really. Gentlemen, we're pushing 50. Pushing it away. Get the fuck away, Mr. 50. There was no jokes. There was no jokes. Everybody just got quiet. It's coming. Are you all sad? So maybe it's me. Did anyone wonder why...

00:48:10.020 --> 00:48:12.360
his 56th birthday.

00:48:13.460 --> 00:48:18.240
It seems to me like the 50th might have been a little more appropriate in terms of celebrating.

00:48:18.920 --> 00:48:19.800
Maybe it's just me.

00:48:19.950 --> 00:48:20.220
I don't know.

00:48:20.760 --> 00:48:22.960
Damn, they're out of things to do.

00:48:23.290 --> 00:48:23.980
And I don't know.

00:48:24.460 --> 00:48:26.280
Yeah, well, Castro Valley is not exactly.

00:48:26.720 --> 00:48:27.880
You said this is in California?

00:48:28.850 --> 00:48:28.940
Yeah.

00:48:29.200 --> 00:48:30.320
Jane, I could speak to this.

00:48:30.400 --> 00:48:30.940
Castro Valley.

00:48:31.380 --> 00:48:32.460
Yeah, Castro Valley is out by me.

00:48:34.599 --> 00:48:36.060
I'll be running out there tomorrow.

00:48:36.520 --> 00:48:37.100
I'm just joking.

00:48:37.280 --> 00:48:37.860
I mean, what the fuck?

00:48:37.870 --> 00:48:38.500
What are they going to do?

00:48:39.780 --> 00:49:08.100
Yeah, exactly. Don't know. Probably play Call of Cthulhu on repeat. Yeah. Yeah, I like it, all the crosswalks. I mean, the quintessential Cliff Burton moment for me is For Whom the Bell Tolls, Day on the Green. You've seen the video for that, where he's, you know, it's an outdoor show, and he's got his one leg up on the monitor, and his hair's just long, his hair's just blowing in the wind while he's banging his head. That's Cliff Burton for me, right there. That's fucking epic, yeah. Yeah. So,

00:49:08.560 --> 00:49:38.520
Devin Townsend project is going on hiatus while Devin works on some other projects. John pointed this one out to me and I had to groan because I've this past like two years I've really gotten into the Devin Townsend project stuff. He's my absolute favorite thing of all time. I could not live in this world without Devin Townsend. He's amazing and I've made him uncomfortable before. Tell this story about how much I love him. I saw him

00:49:38.540 --> 00:50:07.600
at a show in Pittsburgh and I shook his hand and I was basically telling him that he is responsible for all the things I do on my life and it was a really awkward and kind of terrible and then and then my friend goes uh and then my friend just made it worse and goes oh hey Devin he master based your music constantly and I'm like dude shut up and then he was like all right see you then and he just walks away and I'm like it was the it was the greatest moment of my life because I got to touch my savior's hand it was I did that to behemoth about a decade ago yeah yeah I did that did you read his book

00:50:08.980 --> 00:50:36.540
I have not had a chance to get his book yet. The most important question is, do you actually masturbate to his music? Let's back up for a second. Until I heard Mighty Masturbator, I was never inspired to. You said a minute ago, a decade ago, what were you saying a decade ago? I did that to Behemoth about a decade ago. I thought you said Behemoth. I had the good fortune to meet them not long ago myself.

00:50:46.440 --> 00:50:48.560
It makes me laugh even more

00:50:49.380 --> 00:50:52.460
because you get such an insight into his thinking

00:50:52.540 --> 00:50:55.780
and his personality that your story makes me laugh

00:50:55.840 --> 00:50:58.460
because I'm like, oh yeah, I probably really fucked with him

00:51:00.940 --> 00:51:02.660
He's very humble and reserved

00:51:02.720 --> 00:51:04.479
and doesn't really like attention to himself

00:51:04.480 --> 00:51:34.460
He microanalyzes every little thing he does and how it involves everything around him. I said this and how this affects people. He really has this thing about the influence that he has on other people and so he wants to project something that he's proud of and not something like some weird satanic evil thing that he's

00:51:34.480 --> 00:52:03.660
I wouldn't be proud of it. So yeah, he thinks about that exactly why I don't like him. I mean, I'll say that I was disappointed that he put DTP on hold, but we're getting the deck opera. Right. Yeah, we're getting the deck opera. We might be getting he keeps hinting that he's going to play bass in something and maybe more casualties. But nobody really knows. But the last time he took a huge break, we got Devin Townsend project. So whatever he does next, I'm sure is going to be fine. And we're definitely getting the deck opera. So yeah, that's.

00:52:04.480 --> 00:52:32.080
Yeah, it's like, it's not like he's taking a break to not do anything. It's just so he can do even more work. Yeah, I'm not even remotely worried about this because I've been a Devin Townsend fan going way back. And when he announced the first retirement when or semi retirement, he was just going to do, you know, recording studio stuff, working with other bands that gave us what 20 albums after that different projects when he came. Oh, yeah. So I'm not even remotely worried about this at all.

00:52:32.460 --> 00:52:58.340
So not to tell, and I'm not going to tell this story, but it's a story because it's been told on this podcast too much. But I, just speaking of the behemoth, having made a fool of yourself with the behemoth, I met them not long ago, and it was right when I was getting ready to go to Poland, and I got my hair cut at Nurgle's barbershop. And if you go to our Facebook page, you'll see a video of Nurgle telling, me and Nurgle together, and he's telling the staff at the barbershop to give me a haircut and free beer.

00:53:00.220 --> 00:53:29.600
And I did. I went and got my hair cut and I showed them this video of their boss talking to me. They gave me a bunch of free behemoth beer and stuff. It was awesome. Guys, I want you to take a very close attention to Jay's hair. Jay fucking need a haircut. His hair never changes. Yeah. It was the same. You can cut something off of that. He's like, you want the receding hairline? Well, just don't get all of them cut. Yeah.

00:53:30.220 --> 00:54:00.180
Who said I got the hair on my head? My head cut, Will. Oh, snap. Oh. I don't get a cut. It just falls out. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's convenient. All right. Next. Yeah, so Obituary announced a tour with Pallbearer, Skeleton Witch, and Dustbolt, which sounds like a really cool fucking tour, except that it's not coming anywhere near here. Yeah, I know. What's the closest it's coming? I don't know. I think it was maybe Pennsylvania.

00:54:00.240 --> 00:54:29.940
Pennsylvania. Philly seems to be about as close as anything comes anymore. So many metal tours are skipping this area now. What the hell? We know all about that. Nobody wants to drive the extra hour down from Richmond to come to this area. I suppose so, yeah. They're coming here. Screw you, Jay. Yeah. But I will go to that show, actually, to be honest with you. I mean, if only for... Well, actually, you know what? There's nothing there. I wouldn't mind seeing.

00:54:32.760 --> 00:55:00.200
Sí, sí.

00:55:00.220 --> 00:55:29.720
Philly, you can go an hour, you get to Baltimore, you go an hour, you get to D.C., or just go all the way to Raleigh. Yeah, we'll see. 95 goes from New York all the way to Atlanta, and so at Richmond, 64 goes down to here, and so you would have to backtrack an hour to get to Richmond to keep going down again. So it's really two hours out of the way. Unless you want to be super metal and go through the great dismal swamp. Well, yeah. There's not a lot of connecting roads through there.

00:55:30.220 --> 00:55:58.880
to get back to the interstate in a good way. But anyway, that's my reason why I tell people. But who really knows? Yeah, yeah. Who really knows? So Mastodon won the Best Metal Performance Grammy. And exactly, Will's making the blowjob motion. Can you do the crickets? Yeah. You guys, which by the way, obviously we're not huge fans.

00:56:00.240 --> 00:56:30.200
to know if you do like the new records, especially the newest one. I'll just tell you straight up, we were disappointed. We like the older stuff. I've only ever hated one of their albums. I thought this new one was good. It's definitely not the best work they've ever done. I'm dying to know which one you don't like. The Hunter wasn't bad. I don't like it either. I mean, it's not their best work, clearly, but I don't think it's bad. It's very...

00:56:30.240 --> 00:56:35.420
approachable for like normally listeners i guess isn't that the curl of the burl album yeah

00:56:36.000 --> 00:56:43.700
fuck that song yeah oh yeah at the end of the day the grammys are an industry circle jerk and they

00:56:44.020 --> 00:56:48.960
won that grammy by having sold a fuck ton of records and it's hard to talk shit on that i've heard

00:56:49.180 --> 00:56:56.259
people on sirius xm talk about the grammy voting and and and the rock and roll hall of fame voting and

00:56:56.280 --> 00:57:26.220
And it's very personal. And it's a bunch of dudes in suits. And like, oh, who should I vote for? I don't know. And, you know, even the nominees, it's like, I mean, how many times does Macedon get nominated every fucking year? I tell you this, too. I agree with you well about the guys in the suits and the whatnot. How many of them even listen to the metal releases? No, they don't. That's why it's not even a broadcast. Yeah, just the ones that get nominated are just the ones that are big enough that people have actually heard of them.

00:57:26.839 --> 00:57:56.120
They're like, oh yeah, I've heard that. On the other hand, Code Orange. Come on. That record made a bunch of lists, not that I was a fan of that. At this point, it's become an absurd reality. It's absurd. Well, I mean, it always was. I don't know if even become as true. Yeah, the fact that they don't even televise the metal one anymore. It's like, it's one fucking award. Do you think maybe you could give us five minutes? Fuck you. Yeah, how else will we see,

00:57:56.300 --> 00:58:26.180
Tenacious D accepting their Grammy for a cover. Yeah, a cover of an anthrax song. Wasn't Beyonce nominated for a rock Grammy two years ago or something like that? Yeah. She got Best 10 performance. Did Body Count play in the pre-show this year, too? They did. Did I read that? Yeah. Okay. Is that right? Actually, of all of them, I like Body Count the most. I like Body Count. Body Count's a good time. They're a super authentic band. Right. Everything they do, I believe that they believe in. And that's the best.

00:58:26.300 --> 00:58:56.020
I think you can say about it, Dan. Exactly. Yep. You know, just this morning, there was a post on Facebook. Actually, it's probably a blog post, but it ended up on Facebook from Thomas Gabriel Fisher about the Swiss Music Awards. And apparently, after 35 years of completely ignoring Hellhammer, Celtic Frost, and Trypticon, it took Martin Ayn dying to get some notice. And they're giving him some sort of,

00:58:56.260 --> 00:59:26.100
I don't know, like a lifetime achievement award or some shit, you know, and Tom just fucking ripped their ass off. He's like, oh, you know, he had to fucking die to get this award and he fucking hated you when he was alive. So I'm glad he's not here to, he didn't say that, I'm making shit up now, but essentially, you know, just, they asked him to come and present the award and he was like, fuck you. And, uh. That also shows how little they know about him to even thought, you know what I mean? That he was going to, that it was,

00:59:26.260 --> 00:59:55.460
Any chance in hell it was going to be like, yeah, that sounds like a nice event. I'll come on down. Did you? Dude, is he on Facebook, George? Well, I mean, it was like on the Tripticon Facebook page. They posted it there. And this is why I love Thomas Gabriel Fisher. Yeah, but is that any different than the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? How many bands did they nominated and put in where a key member of the band died a year or two before that? Yeah. That's happened how many times the last couple of years? It's a pity vote. It's art. Dying is the best thing you can do for your career.

00:59:55.600 --> 01:00:24.880
That's always been true. It'll always be true. Yep. I mean, they wouldn't put Yes and Chris Squire dies. Yes is the greatest band ever. We're putting them in. It's like, fuck you. You didn't like them for 40 years. So. Yeah. And it's Rolling Stone that votes all those bands in anyway. So that should tell you all you need to know about the Hall of Fame. Yeah, that editor is a douchebag. All their editors are douchebags. I mean, that's the guy that wrote that Fargo Rock City is the editor now. Oh, really? I like him. Nick.

01:00:25.580 --> 01:00:55.540
Well, he and nothing. I don't think he liked anything after that. Did you read anything about that book? Yeah, I read just about all of them. Oh, okay. All right. I'll take it back then. I haven't read anything else. It's just I know some of it. Fargo Rock City is a cool book. Yeah, I read it. Anywho, Memoriam released a lyric video for their new song called Bleed the Same, featuring a cameo by Martin Luther King Jr. Who did? Memoriam. Memoriam. The band that came down.

01:00:55.600 --> 01:01:25.380
together from Bolt Thrower and Benediction. And it was good. I liked it. I'm looking forward to the album. I have to say, I liked this song, I think, more than any song on the last album. So did I, Will. Honest to God. I was just like, okay, I'm starting to see a little bit more why George was so excited last year. This was good. It sounded more like Bolt Thrower. I think that's why. Sorry, popping a lot of boners. All right.

01:01:26.440 --> 01:01:55.300
I like their boner button. It's cute. Yeah. Where's that on the Skype app? We don't have boners on our Skype. Literally. I mean, that's the way this is at your phone, George. Yeah. There's probably a smarter way to do it that you guys could have hooked up by now if we just asked you to. There's a smarter way to jerk the penis. I would find a complicated way that's too expensive. That's the best way. But the clarity.

01:01:57.039 --> 01:02:25.560
Yeah, being a studio guy, everything is just really expensive and I hate it. But it is what it is. Yeah. So KK Downing is going to release a memoir called Heavy Duty Days and Nights in Judas Priest. I think I will probably read that one. I'll definitely do it. I'll read it. He might be one of the more level-headed dudes. Yeah. Well, actually, you know what? I don't know. Glenn's so quiet. He's probably cool too. But KK, I follow him on Facebook and he's just like the most down-to-earth dude, man. I get the feeling if you stop

01:02:26.560 --> 01:02:29.280
Yeah. Do you think the book will come with like a bottle of cologne?

01:02:31.900 --> 01:02:34.080
No. Did you know his golf thing failed?

01:02:34.260 --> 01:02:35.080
Yeah, that's too bad.

01:02:35.210 --> 01:02:36.080
I heard about that. Yeah.

01:02:36.560 --> 01:02:37.480
I was sorry to hear about that.

01:02:37.640 --> 01:02:37.740
Yeah.

01:02:39.300 --> 01:02:55.120
But also in that same article where he was talking about the book, he had some praise for Richie Faulkner, which he was saying, I get it. He kind of looks like me and everything. It makes sense. You know what I mean? But he wasn't being unkind. He was just sort of like, it works. They got a thing to keep going. He's a good player. I don't mind. He had no unkind thing. Not that I mean.

01:02:55.140 --> 01:03:21.880
He left under his own free will. I'll be honest. I'm interested to read the book. I'm kind of interested to hear him dispel the whole, was it Rockstar or whatever that movie was with Mark Wahlberg, just hear him completely just destroy that whole storyline, which would be kind of fun. Speaking of Priest, they released the title track from their new forthcoming album, Firepower, and that's two for two for as far as us on the podcast you're concerned.

01:03:25.160 --> 01:03:53.900
Greatest Thing Ever? No, but is it better than Priest that we've had since Rob came back to the band? Yes, I think it is. Yeah. This one's a little more generic, I thought, than the first one, but not bad. I didn't, I wasn't like, oh my god, this sucks. I have a feeling it's going to be, well, we'll see. No, I don't want to make any predictions. Yeah. Should I keep my mouth shut? Shut up, Jay. Shut up, fuck up. But I do like those two songs. Yeah, there you go. You know what? I deserve that. No, you don't. It was just fun.

01:03:55.160 --> 01:04:24.480
All right, so we have one more news item, and this one I just found in my email earlier today. Panopticon is releasing a new two-part album called The Scars of Man on the Once Nameless Wilderness on April 6th. It's two double albums for a total of four albums. There are two melodic black and death metal albums, and then there's two Americana folk country albums, which... Like a high country, low country thing? Sword?

01:04:24.700 --> 01:04:53.280
Well, you know, the few times that I've seen them, he always plays these really beautiful, like Americana folky songs. And we're like, man, where the fuck is this shit on the album? Because this is awesome. And I guess that's probably what this stuff's going to be. What do you think, John? Yeah, I mean, I only know about the album because I think something was put on like Rate Your Music, like last year he was talking about it.

01:04:53.320 --> 01:05:23.040
So I'm looking forward to it just because we're going to get like 47 hours worth of music. So yeah, he's like, Therian, fuck you. Four albums. Yeah. Yeah. So, uh, Hey, if it means we'll get to see him again, you know, we've already seen him a couple of times. I'm, I'm down with that. Yeah. Matt's up there in a panoptic country. Yeah. Absolutely. Definitely looking forward to it. And I feel like he's had some of the,

01:05:23.320 --> 01:05:25.300
It's kind of the more Kentucky, the bluegrass

01:05:25.640 --> 01:05:27.440
influence. Just little tidbits

01:05:27.710 --> 01:05:29.600
in his album. So yeah, now maybe it'll be a little

01:05:29.600 --> 01:05:30.300
bit more of a focus.

01:05:31.499 --> 01:05:33.620
And yeah, I think it'd be a good mix.

01:05:34.100 --> 01:05:34.440
Excellent.

01:05:35.160 --> 01:05:36.240
Who's that man speaking?

01:05:37.460 --> 01:05:37.860
Who is that?

01:05:38.260 --> 01:05:39.640
Yeah, you can forget he was here.

01:05:40.220 --> 01:05:40.600
I did.

01:05:41.000 --> 01:05:41.240
I did.

01:05:41.840 --> 01:05:42.900
I like to lurk.

01:05:43.040 --> 01:05:43.800
He's a lurker.

01:05:44.020 --> 01:05:45.080
Oh, you like to watch?

01:05:48.220 --> 01:05:49.800
I actually am filming myself right now.

01:05:50.260 --> 01:05:50.460
Okay.

01:05:51.520 --> 01:05:52.220
That is a dad.

01:05:52.420 --> 01:06:21.120
What's the maiden shirt you're wearing? This is the Eddie Evolution. I opted for the Motorhead Cthulhu shirt tonight. Have you seen this design? Nice. That's awesome. I'm self-promoting. Well done, sir. I am self-promoting the skull who just played at my brewery. Fair enough. Fair enough. I'm just wearing a t-shirt. I'm not. Yeah.

01:06:23.080 --> 01:06:39.980
It says English football. That's all it says. Is that literally what it says is English football? Well, England football. I sort of like the shirt that John Belushi wears in Animal House that just says college on it. English football. All right, let's move on to new releases.

01:06:53.220 --> 01:07:22.380
I've been listening to this nonstop today. The new Atlas Moth album, Coma Noir. Yes! I mean, I've liked their previous stuff, but I heard a single off of it, and I was like, meh. And so I wasn't really all that anticipating greatness. And then I went on the headphones with it, and I was like, within three songs, I was like, John, you gotta hear this. Yeah, they're an amazing band. I'm not crazy about where the vocals sit in the mix on

01:07:22.420 --> 01:07:25.860
the new stuff. But other than that, I mean, it's Atlas Moth. It's fabulous.

01:07:26.140 --> 01:07:29.860
Would you bring it further up front or further back?

01:07:30.020 --> 01:07:32.220
I have stupid ears. I just know I don't like it.

01:07:32.840 --> 01:07:37.460
Okay, fair enough. Well, I complain a lot about people that bury the vocals too much. So I was just curious.

01:07:38.020 --> 01:07:51.480
It's definitely, it feels to be a little bit more aggressive than the previous albums, which I do like. But I've always, I mean, what I've loved most about Atlas Moth in their previous is probably, they just have this element of just being kind of trippy or spacey.

01:07:51.660 --> 01:08:20.380
And I always thought, after I listened to Ake for Distance, I thought, like, if John Lennon played sludge music, it would sound like the Atlas Moth. And I've just fallen in love with that. And it took me a few times on the new one to see that that element is still there, but it's just definitely heavier and more aggressive. But I would agree that the vocals, I'm not as in love with the vocals this time around. Previously, I really liked the balance between the singers more harsh, and then I think it's the other guitar player who does a little bit more clean vocals. But again, I gotta spin it some more.

01:08:24.200 --> 01:08:48.200
Yeah, I would, you know, if I had like an album of the episode, other than Slaghead, I would say this is probably my album of the episode because, wow. All right, you've moved me to download it. I will. I mean, you know, a week from now, I might be tired of it and be like, this is so lame. This is like between the buried me. Not that it's like between the buried me, but I got tired of BT Bam after about a week on the last album. Oh, yeah. So.

01:08:50.799 --> 01:09:17.940
Next, we have Harakiri for the Sky, Arson, their fourth album. And the more I listen to this one, the more I like it. Yeah, it's another one you got to work through because it's what, like 75 minutes. But I like it too. Yeah. It's a little more, I'm not going to call it death metal, but there's definitely more death metal moments in it in terms of the drumming, the way they go about it. So it's cool. Yeah.

01:09:20.779 --> 01:09:50.759
with Bell Witch. It definitely expects something of you as a listener. It takes something to get through. I've been enjoying that one a lot. You kind of do like three songs, maybe four, take a break, and say, oh, I'll start the second album now. Oh, wait, it's all the same album. Every song is like ten minutes, eight minutes, which is fine. It's just there's like eight, nine songs. It's work. It's good, though. I enjoy it. Okay, hopping into the Wayback Machine. We've got the

01:09:51.760 --> 01:10:20.720
23rd album from Saxon called Thunderbolt. I've never been a huge Saxon fan myself. Saxon, Jay? Saxon? Yeah, you're right. You're right. For what it's worth, you converted me a little while back. You just haven't had a chance. We just don't talk about them that much. Jay says Saxon. I like everything up through Power and the Glory especially. Slightly less Crusader. And then they did post-2000, there's like four records.

01:10:25.100 --> 01:10:50.520
Metalhead, Lionheart, I can't recommend enough. But then ever since those ones, they've been kind of just putting out the same record over and over. So it's pretty basic. I don't know. I mean, since we're seeing them with Priest next month, I gave it a listen. And I didn't hate it. I was like... You'd do better? Go ahead. Well, I mean, whenever I've tried to listen to sax, and I always go back to the old albums, you know,

01:10:50.580 --> 01:11:20.540
because those are the ones that they're known for. And that's that early new wave of British heavy metal that I'm just kind of like, eh. You know, I would have liked this at the time, but now it's just kind of dated. But they've, you know, the sound they have now, while not particularly original, it's heavier. It's, and it's not bad. It was listenable to me. I enjoyed it. They had a record that came out a few years ago, George, called Heavy Metal Thunder. And it's one of the few examples I can think of a band that went back and re-recorded

01:11:20.600 --> 01:11:50.540
a bunch of their old catalog and it actually came out really cool. So that might be a better preparation for the Kreese show than the new one, which I admit that I didn't even make it all the way through. I got too much other music to listen to. It was about 10 years ago when I was really digging their late era stuff. I would have been more into it. They've literally had about five records in a row now I didn't really care that much about. You guys, I guess I'm the only one who knows this band, but there's a prog band called Osric Tentacles. They've got like

01:11:50.580 --> 01:11:51.600
A Million Records.

01:12:20.580 --> 01:12:26.340
back from that even though they kept making metal records it was their cold lake i mean it was

01:12:26.350 --> 01:12:32.120
their ice cold lake jorge i mean it was that yeah yeah so but anyway um but i don't want to

01:12:32.980 --> 01:12:40.120
slag on them because i i love them and and i think they're the big three the early the early maiden

01:12:40.380 --> 01:12:44.980
priest and saxon to me were the big three or the first big three even though saxon never really made it big

01:12:45.080 --> 01:12:50.540
here but i'll tell you this much i've seen them recently live and they still sound great live

01:12:50.540 --> 01:13:20.380
I mean they're heavy as anything. Dude I saw them John I saw them believe it or not in Petaluma just about four years ago. I got a guitar pick and everything it was great that was a great fucking show they were awesome. Yeah but I saw them in Petaluma. It's just like it was like four years ago. Only Jay and I would know it that obscure California reference. Well I mean what was Saxon what were they doing in Petaluma you know what I mean it was just the weirdest thing. I think my aunt lives a block away from here.

01:13:21.240 --> 01:13:50.300
She may well do. I think she does. All right. Next, we've got the new Therian album, Beloved Antichrist, which we've talked a little bit about previously without much enthusiasm. And I tried to take one for the team today, and I tried to plow through all three hours of it. I only got about an hour in this time, and I was just like, whatever. You know, as someone who was a fan of a lot of their work up,

01:13:50.540 --> 01:14:19.840
through the mid-2000s, I'm not even going to broach the idea of listening to it. I'm just not going to waste my time with that. You've tried enough, George. I think you did. You gave it a college effort. If you're into operatic vocals, then that's what it's about. The music, they don't seem to give two shits about the music. They're just like, play some power chords and we'll sing operatic over it. Was this a 46 song?

01:14:20.540 --> 01:14:49.120
Yeah, it's crazy. It's like three hours and something. And this is not like, oh, we're going to throw like five other albums on top of this one. Like, this is one album that had 46 fucking songs. Yeah. You know, Swallow the Sun did three albums and it was awesome. It was three different. But the Swallow the Sun was three different albums. Yeah, each one was separate from itself. Yeah, that's true. Yeah, and there's, I like, I'm not going to say I don't.

01:14:50.540 --> 01:15:20.360
that long, dude. I mean, I couldn't agree with you more. It's just, the music is so plastic, in all honesty. And if you're into the operatic vocals, that's fine. But, and I, to be honest with you, I doubt the story's that interesting either. I mean, none of us is ever going to find out. When they were doing that back in the mid-90s, late 90s, early 2000s, it just, it was a different feel. It was a little more creative back then. Now it's just the same. I mean, the vocals are good. And if you like operatic stuff, and I don't,

01:15:20.380 --> 01:15:50.360
I don't dislike opera however I'm not a big fan of female operatic vocals or they're just like super high like early Nightwish can't stand all night wish I I don't know I I listened to the first couple albums and I was like never again so I don't know they've got a new singer now I don't know if it's different or not but which one I don't know what's the one last year they have floor Jensen now I think yeah she's I actually like her I haven't but I'm the I'm just not a fan of the band so yeah I

01:15:50.400 --> 01:16:19.780
I think she's great but I don't like the album they did with her. She's way better than After Forever. I think a lot of those bands are really good but they kind of get into this trap where they feel like if they can make it a little more accessible they might get that extra little bit of fan base reach but it doesn't really seem to work out for them. Well they didn't understand accessible in this particular instance because I guess not. I mean it's just it's just like milquetoast crap it's just not. Not accessible Jay. Access-able.

01:16:21.140 --> 01:16:48.340
Well done, sir. What's the one that we like so much last year? The God... This is not God, Flesh Apocalypse, but something like that. Flesh God Apocalypse. Yeah. Well, that's different. A better example. They're fantastic. Yes. Yeah, we dug that record last year and a better example of... Actually, it was two years ago now. Was it two now? Yeah, it's two years. I wish that's why. Yep.

01:16:50.400 --> 01:17:20.340
They have the new Visigoth album, Conqueror's Oath, second album from these Salt Lake City classic metal guys. And Gage from our last episode apparently had something to do with the album. I know I'm probably the only one here that likes this album, but I think it's really good. I actually listened to it again today, and it's not bad. I mean, it gets a little too... I know they're not a per se power metal band, but it gets a little too gang-y.

01:17:20.380 --> 01:17:49.840
singing for me in some parts and so I just I turn off but musically I thought it was fine I it's a fun album it's not like yeah it's not going to be something that I compare to you know uh carcass or something to be like yeah this is you know but it's just a fun album I think they're good at what they do definitely I think they're definitely one of the good new what are they calling them now a new wave of traditional heavy metal yeah I guess is what Ian Christie's calling them so yep that works all right

01:17:49.860 --> 01:18:19.820
I also have a new release that I did not, that I just added, and it's not metal. I spent the whole frickin' day listening to just tons of metal in preparation for this. And when I ran out to pick up some dinner, I needed a palate cleanser. And this album came out today, and I was like, oh, check this out. It's Brian Fallon and his new album Sleepwalkers. He was the singer for the Gaslight Anthem, which is kind of a new album.

01:18:19.860 --> 01:18:47.800
of Springsteen meets the clash kind of Americana punk. Definitely doesn't belong anywhere on this podcast, but it came out today and I kind of dig it. Wow, that really works through your microphone. It was powerful. All right, so now we're on to Skullcrushers, and this episode, it is Will versus Cannibal Corpse.

01:18:49.860 --> 01:19:19.300
Put on your thinking cap and let's start with Matt. Well, I got one official one, but I don't know if it's something everybody's going to ask and if it's too easy. I could be an idiot. But the one that I wanted to ask had to do with Ace Ventura. And I actually didn't take the time to see, but I read somewhere that in the end credits of the movie, they did not properly refer to Cannibal Corpse as Cannibal Corpse. Does anybody know if this is true? Animal Corses. Really? Nice.

01:19:19.860 --> 01:19:27.740
All right. My actual real question was what between the bands that

01:19:27.790 --> 01:19:33.440
Campbell corpse was born from what are two of the three bands that existed for Campbell

01:19:33.490 --> 01:19:49.420
Corp. That's a good question. So it's beyond death Leviathan and beyond death Leviathan and tyrant something. But something's probably not right.

01:19:51.360 --> 01:20:19.060
It does start with an S. Tyrant. Skin. No. So close. Just drop the cat. Sin. Sin. Tyrant Sin. Oh, nice. Walked him right into it, George. Those are good. That's good. I didn't know that. And to be fair. I always have to answer the questions when someone else is, but in this case, thank you, George. You're welcome. Fuck face. All right. I think that brings it up to you, John. All right.

01:20:19.540 --> 01:20:49.400
George, your question is, I mean, Will. So I look a lot like George. Right, but he's going to answer for you, right? He will. All right, so George. All right, Will. Cannibal Corpse has received a partial ban in the past from a certain country. Can you name the country and what the ban was? They were banned partially in Germany. Correct.

01:20:52.640 --> 01:21:18.940
And Russia. All right. So my question was geared towards Germany. So can you tell me what the band was? What, the band or B-A-N? B-A-N, the band. The band was for three albums. There you go. All right. Cool. You got that one. Nice. All right. I'm guessing that this may be asked,

01:21:19.060 --> 01:21:47.520
or on someone else's list, but which member of Cannibal Corpse is based on a character on Metalocalypse? There goes another one. George Corpgrinder Fisher. And which character is he on the show? Vice and person. So he's two characters. He's the metal masked assassin, which is literally him, and then the lead singer of Metalocalypse looks like him.

01:21:48.600 --> 01:22:17.620
and does the windmill headbanging thing like he does. What's his name? Right. What's his name? Oh, god damn. Well, I got another part to this too. So George does, I guess, the voice or what I get officially is the Metal Masked Assassin. Yeah. And it has something to do. No, the singer's name. What's the singer's name?

01:22:18.600 --> 01:22:47.980
One of the five characters. One of the five band members. Yeah, I forget. I will give you his first name. Nathan. Nathan. It's like Tour Men or something like that. Well, close, but no. Nathan. Yeah, but not even. In another more accurate way, not even close. It's Nathan Explosion. However, he is not the only person that Nathan Explosion is based on. It's also Peter Steele. He looks more like Steele.

01:22:48.580 --> 01:23:18.460
Yes. All right. I don't think anyone else has these because I've got a prog question regarding Cannibal Corpse. A lot of times. Yeah. So, uh, Campbell Corpse has two connections to the band. Nevermore. What's that? O'Brien. Right. You got that. There's one more though. And for those who don't know, Pat O'Brien played on two early albums.

01:23:18.620 --> 01:23:48.180
with Nevermore. Yeah. Yeah. So, Pat O'Brien, who's a guitarist now. It's been for a while, actually. Oh, yeah. Yeah, he's been a long time. Yeah, it's a long time, relatively speaking. And... You're almost there. You can do this. Oh, man. We'll give you his first name. It's Nathan. Nathan Explosion. I know. You're close, but not really. Keep going.

01:23:49.080 --> 01:24:17.640
You're almost there. Hold on. Wait, wait. So there's two people in Cannibal Corpse that have a direct connection with Nevermore. One is clearly Pat O'Brien because he used to be in Nevermore. Yeah. And then... Does he have it right? Is the guy played in Nevermore? That's the actual connection? No. No. So it might be the... Connection to Nevermore. Okay. Oh, I know this one. Wait, so Pat was not in Nevermore? No, no, no. You got that. No, he was. Yeah, I got that. Oh, okay. All right.

01:24:18.600 --> 01:24:44.940
But the other person is not necessarily the same type of connection. So close to aceing my questions. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. Hold on. I know. Fucking just edit all this shit out. No, no, no. This is good radio, buddy.

01:24:49.060 --> 01:25:18.560
No. It's a producer, right? No. Actually, I would have put my guess. Nevermore album produced a... That's true. A guy who produced Nevermore album produced Camel Corp's album. No. I'm going to give you the question anyway because this one might be a little more difficult, but I'll give the answer to this. It's Alex Webster is the bassist in Conquering Dystopia with Jeff Loomis, who used to be a guitarist in Nevermore. Oh, yeah. Okay. And this is...

01:25:18.600 --> 01:25:47.300
I like this because I'm a fan of Alex Webster's. I actually saw Conquering Dystopia. He's by far their best musician, I think, talent-wise. That's just my opinion. I think that's a very shared... Yeah, it is. He's an unbelievable player live. You got him all right, Will. No, no, no, no. I didn't get that last one. It's close. You're knocking it out of the park so far, dude. 14 albums. 1988.

01:25:48.580 --> 01:25:50.180
30 years. Yep.

01:25:53.180 --> 01:26:18.540
Okay, I'm going to hit, I got a couple easy ones for you. Well, we'll see. And maybe some not so hard. It's not so easy. What was Chris Barnes' last record? Bleeding. Nailed it. And I feel like you can do this next one however you choose. And that is that literally you could try to do the discography from start to finish. But we could also just go with your happy place and start a little bit.

01:26:19.540 --> 01:26:46.620
I'm going to finish. I'm going to try it. So, eating back to life. Eating back to life. Butchered at birth. Too many mutilated. Bleeding. That's when Chris Barnes left. Insert Corpse Grinder Fisher with Vile. Galleria Suicide. Then you have a whole bunch of stuff that's sort of like, meh, bloodthirst.

01:26:48.600 --> 01:26:51.040
which was like a super short one which is weird

01:26:52.820 --> 01:26:53.840
then you have wretched spawn

01:26:55.120 --> 01:26:56.820
and then after that

01:26:56.900 --> 01:26:58.600
it gets really fucking good

01:26:58.620 --> 01:26:59.220
you have kill

01:27:01.360 --> 01:27:02.220
evisceration plague

01:27:04.580 --> 01:27:05.800
I'm not laughing at you

01:27:05.900 --> 01:27:06.900
I just love these titles

01:27:07.120 --> 01:27:07.420
they're awesome

01:27:11.140 --> 01:27:11.700
torture

01:27:13.940 --> 01:27:14.880
skeletal remains

01:27:15.240 --> 01:27:16.000
and red before black

01:27:16.640 --> 01:27:17.580
skeletal domain

01:27:18.300 --> 01:27:47.540
Skelthol. You said the band Skeletal Remains. Oh, sorry, Skeletal. You had a couple. That's all right. Good enough. You know, I forgot to tell you what I just found. Was I right in the order? Absolutely. I ran out of money. All right. Thank you. I actually found a copy of Evisceration Plague, some red vinyl weird rare copy that I'd never seen before. I picked it up to that. It was $40, but it was still worth it. I found it at the record store. Nice. Okay, let's keep going here.

01:27:48.720 --> 01:28:18.700
I wrote my down I just gotta bring up to that oh so uh okay well related to the other question why this is too easy but why was Cannibal Corpse in Ace Ventura how was it that they were brought into that movie uh Jim Carrey contacted Metal Blade and Metal Blade said like hey do you want to be in this movie and they said like sure why not and apparently Jim Carrey is a fan I they I'm

01:28:18.740 --> 01:28:48.700
I have not been able to confirm this in any independent source that he's actually a fan or he just saw like this is the most crazy shit ever and did some research and pretend to be a fan but regardless Jim Carrey I think he's a legit not a fan so I mean yeah yeah maybe was I doubt so much now because he's often a little weird but that's a good answer well basically it's hip hop because Jim Carrey was a fan there you go and said he was a fan okay so finally my last question for you and this one's a

01:28:48.700 --> 01:29:17.460
a little bit rough, but they were the first death metal band to cross a million albums, which is not a question. But it took them a certain amount of releases to get to that 10 million, or to that 1 million, excuse me. How many of their records came out? How many records did it take? Their first blank, blank number of records added up together equaled 1 million in sales. Oh, man. It was a big deal when it happened. It's a little bit easier than you might guess.

01:29:19.120 --> 01:29:46.340
I'm not going to totally lead you into it. But I'll just say this. If they all sold roughly the same amount of records. That's not a hint. Well, he's pretty drunk. Tenth album, Kill. There you go. Yeah, with Kill, they reached one million in sales. All right. And are said to be the first death metal album. You know, they're the guys. They make a living. That's one of my things. They actually make a living.

01:29:49.160 --> 01:30:16.120
All right, George, I'm going to pass the baton. I'll do nicely done. Well, you're really fucking killing it, man. I'm trying. All right, here's my softball. Where is Cannibal Corpse from? There you go. Actually, I meant to ask, too, where was Corpse Grindr born? Baltimore. Yeah. All right, well, everybody pretty much pummeled my Ace Ventura question to death. However,

01:30:17.520 --> 01:30:47.480
I do have a follow up that you're never going to fucking get but if you do I will I will hail you you blow me what is I almost went there but I was like no I'm not taking that chance don't want to actually blow it not taking the chance you know this one so you said yeah George is known for taking one for the team every once in a while what is Jim Carrey's favorite cannibal corpse song that he said was his favorite song when they did the movie but it's not

01:30:47.520 --> 01:31:17.480
Not the one that's in the movie. No, it's the other one, which is... Amputated something. Oh my gosh, I almost had to suck a dick. Rancid amputation. Yes. Partial credit, please. Yeah, I'm glad I did not. Yeah, partial credit, yeah. All right. What... So just...

01:31:17.520 --> 01:31:46.940
Hey, George. Just a tip. You are so hot. Was that your mom? What? Was that Tam Mom? Anyway, go ahead. What senator accused cannibal corpse of violating human decency? All right. All right. Two more. This one's a lyrics one.

01:31:48.280 --> 01:31:54.520
Masticate, gnawing and chewing the stump. She regurgitates. I'm covered in my bloody chunks.

01:32:17.520 --> 01:32:44.260
This is the logistics getting awkward moment. You're in trouble. Okay, go. Go. Okay. So what were you saying, George? Masticate, gnawing and chewing the stump. Wait, wait, is this a lyric? Yes. Catch up. All right. These are the lyrics. Masticate, gnawing and chewing the stump. She regurgitates, I'm covered in my bloody chunks.

01:32:49.280 --> 01:33:14.220
I can think of one that sure comes to mind. I mean, the first thing that the first thing comes to mind is I come blood. It's off vial. Oh. And to be fair, these are not fair. Yeah, of course. They can be any song. Is it that one? I don't know. Jaws? What?

01:33:18.540 --> 01:33:47.480
Okay. You give up? If it's off, I'll say it again quickly. I didn't think I was going to have to say this so many times. Dude, I'm sorry. I keep getting interrupted. Masticate. Nine and chewing the stump. She regurgitates. I'm covered in my bloody chunks. I was just a little bit of a meter to it. The only thing I think of right now is

01:33:48.780 --> 01:34:16.580
Strip Drank Shangled or whatever. Orgasm Through Torture. Sorry. Dude, I'm telling you, you could pick that line. Yeah, of course. So if you guys are going to ask me the lyrics, I'm like, I'm done. That's my only one. My last one is, what's the best place to bargain shop while on tour? There you go. Now, before we move on,

01:34:17.500 --> 01:34:47.180
Please, hit me up more. Did you guys come up with some questions? Yeah, maybe Slaghead's got some questions for you, maybe. I got one. Sure. Add two, but then you took the Bob Dole one. What American singer-songwriter was at once falsely rumored because of file sharing that they had done a duet with? Tori Amos. There you go. Nice. It's like being slapped, isn't it? It's like throwing something at him to come back in your face.

01:34:48.480 --> 01:35:16.240
I had to Google. I know nothing about them. So few people do. Anything else? Will does. Come on, give me some more. I gotta say, well, this was probably the most successful. No, no, no. I failed on a couple of them. One, I think it was one in the lyrics. Yeah, lyrics ones. That was more of a fuck you because you've been using them against us. It's like those ones are just too hard.

01:35:17.520 --> 01:35:45.540
The lyrics are good, but Camel Corp's, like, if you guys give me Camel Corp's lyrics, I'm like, you just, like, I'm dead. Yeah, forget it. Yeah, forget it. Just forget it, exactly. I think they probably have a random program. That's just, like, they put it a bunch of, like, okay, we need some lyrics. I have a question. It's on their Wikipedia page, so I guess it's fair game. Will probably wrote it. Where do they play their first show? That's a good one. Oh. And wait.

01:35:47.500 --> 01:36:16.840
Yeah. Go ahead. Go ahead. Yeah. Yeah. What year was it to? First show was in 1989. It was in Buffalo and it was at the bar. The name of the bar. I want to say it was like whiskey something or whatever. It was like some stupid bar, small bar, but they could cram like two or three hundred people into.

01:36:19.200 --> 01:36:38.920
I don't remember the exact name of the bar. Okay. It was the River Rock Cafe. Yep. Was it 89? Did he get the year right? He got the year right. In Buffalo? In Buffalo. Yeah. Nice. This was an impressive showing, sir. All right. We are going to do our top five most anticipated albums of 2018.

01:37:03.080 --> 01:37:06.420
We are going to start with the guys from Slaghead and they're number five.

01:37:06.980 --> 01:37:08.240
Not collectively, you can each have one.

01:37:10.480 --> 01:37:14.720
I'm going to go with Horizon Ablaze, The Weight of the Thousand Suns. I'm really excited for that.

01:37:15.060 --> 01:37:17.280
What? I don't know that one.

01:37:17.320 --> 01:37:45.780
The New Horizon Ablaze. I don't know them. Must be old. Me, that is. Alright. Mine's kind of a cop-out, but I'm still really excited for it. Nightwish is releasing a remaster of a lot of stuff called Centuries. It's a lot of older recordings getting remixed and remastered, and I'm really excited to hear that. Who's singing? Is that floor singing on that?

01:37:47.300 --> 01:38:16.020
A lot of the older songs getting redone. I don't think... They're not redoing them, just remixing them? Okay. Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's just remix and remaster. And a lot of those albums, I'm a big fan of the songs, but not so much the production, so I'm super excited to see what they do. And no cap out at all, man. Often some repackaged thing or something will come out, and I'm like, oh, I'm super excited about that one this year. One of the big reasons I listened to Metal is for the production, and so that was one of the things that came up on my radar pretty easily.

01:38:19.220 --> 01:38:46.060
I'm going to go ahead and rep the Virginia scene. There's a band called Diseased Earth from Stanton. It's a band from Stanton. Yeah, I know where that is. Up in there. That's how we know you're a Yankee if you pronounce it wrong. I know. It looks like Staunton, but it's Stanton and it's near Charlottesville. They actually changed it during the Civil War to be able to identify

01:38:46.140 --> 01:38:46.600
Yankees.

01:38:46.880 --> 01:38:47.020
Yeah.

01:38:47.320 --> 01:38:47.600
Is that right?

01:38:48.460 --> 01:38:49.540
They had to be you.

01:38:49.880 --> 01:38:50.080
Spelling.

01:38:51.360 --> 01:38:51.800
All right.

01:38:51.930 --> 01:38:52.320
So we're.

01:38:52.520 --> 01:38:53.080
Number five.

01:38:53.440 --> 01:38:53.740
We're Matt.

01:38:53.800 --> 01:38:54.180
Number five.

01:38:56.000 --> 01:38:57.380
So I just want to say before I go.

01:38:58.400 --> 01:39:01.720
I'm 90% sure all the bands on my list have an album coming out this year.

01:39:03.260 --> 01:39:04.280
But don't be surprised if they don't.

01:39:04.800 --> 01:39:06.080
Sounds like a Joel move.

01:39:08.620 --> 01:39:08.740
Yeah.

01:39:08.750 --> 01:39:10.580
But he's going in the future, not in the past.

01:39:10.760 --> 01:39:10.840
Yeah.

01:39:11.060 --> 01:39:12.620
That's what I don't know came out this year.

01:39:14.800 --> 01:39:43.320
Number five is Pig Destroyer. Yeah. Oh. Right on, dude. Nothing wrong with that. DX. All right, John. He says they got an album coming out this year. I'm like, Matt, I have an album without an album title. Mine is going to be, I don't know how you pronounce their name. It's either Yob or Y-O-B or Boy Backwards. They have a new album coming out this year, and I'm really excited given everything that's happened with the band recently. I'm looking forward to it. Cool.

01:39:44.800 --> 01:39:48.540
I have zero original to say because my number five is

01:39:49.420 --> 01:39:52.100
yum. Sweet.

01:39:53.120 --> 01:39:53.220
Yeah.

01:39:53.900 --> 01:39:54.820
That's going to be killer.

01:39:56.760 --> 01:39:58.520
They're going to crush it.

01:39:59.040 --> 01:39:59.520
Yeah, they are.

01:40:01.160 --> 01:40:04.380
I think George and I might be the only two people who care about this one,

01:40:04.520 --> 01:40:06.780
but Sludge has a new record coming out this year.

01:40:06.780 --> 01:40:07.040
Oh, yeah.

01:40:07.640 --> 01:40:09.420
Called Esoteric Malacology.

01:40:10.000 --> 01:40:11.160
Those dudes are fucking awesome.

01:40:11.160 --> 01:40:13.800
Is that different than Sludge?

01:40:13.800 --> 01:40:13.920
Yeah.

01:40:15.880 --> 01:40:42.460
Yeah, they're from the UK. Those guys are awesome. All their songs are about snails. Yeah. Nice. Yeah. They'll use like... They're called Slug, but they're all about snails. Wait, what? Well, they're Slug. Well, mollusks. Yeah. There's like... What the heck? There's a Morbid Angel thing. A song that's like a take on a Morbid Angel thing. What was that?

01:40:44.040 --> 01:41:13.660
I can't think of it. Oh, why they kind of stole half a title? Yeah, like they do like cheeky little song titles that are like other songs, but it's mushroom, or not mushroom, but snail themed. And yeah, actually, and you're like, oh, this is like some, you know, funny ha ha band, but then the music fucking rips. Oh, no, well, it's a matter of example, Spore Ensemble. Yeah. The Toxic Salts. Yeah, right. It's pretty good, right? But dude, the record's fucking great.

01:41:13.680 --> 01:41:43.480
The Records Are Really Good Dude. Pellet in the Head, Unchained Malady is a nice one. But I wouldn't call them a comic band. I mean, the records are fucking insane. So highly recommended. But in any case, I'll be looking forward to that one. Yep. My number five is one that I wouldn't expect to be on anybody's list because they haven't put out an album in like 25 years. But they are back supposedly this year with a new album, and that is Coroner. Wow. I didn't know that. Yep. Cool.

01:41:44.360 --> 01:42:09.820
All right, back to Slaghead. Was that first, I think? That's for number four. All right, my number four is Rotting Christ, Passage to Arcturo. Reissue. Yep. They're reissuing, I think, more or less everything every couple of months or something. Yeah, I really love the reissues, so you can see a theme with my picks. Yeah.

01:42:13.700 --> 01:42:43.660
I'm going to go with the new Ocean Collective album. I don't think we have a title on that one yet, but I can't not be excited about new Ocean Collective. That's another one I don't know. You know the Ocean George. Oh, the Ocean George. The full name is the Ocean Collective. Okay, well then yes, I do know them. Wait, hold on. So it's the German band The Ocean? Yes, but their full name is the Ocean Collective. I did not know that. Okay, got it. Yeah, got it. Okay. And is this a new album or a

01:42:44.780 --> 01:43:13.440
Yeah, they supposedly got a new album out this year. Not a lot of details yet, but it's new ocean. I'm a happy man. Excellent. Yeah. Yeah. I know it was Pelagio. I think that was the last one. Pelagio is amazing. Two years now, I think. It's all right. Will is really creeping me out, man. All right. Get that super killer vibe in it. What was that? No, I like it better when it was creepy, to be honest with you, Will. Oh. My number four is,

01:43:13.680 --> 01:43:17.760
I don't think they have an album name yet but they

01:43:18.070 --> 01:43:21.440
have worked on a new project. Sweet. Alright Matt.

01:43:24.300 --> 01:43:42.640
My number four is Chemist. I don't know if they have an album title yet. I don't think so. Nor do I know if it's coming out this year but I feel like it's close. It's supposed to be summer like June-ish maybe. You gotta guess. What's the tour that they're on? Oh they're on the Decibel tour. Decibel yep. Yeah. Be here in two weeks. Yeah.

01:43:43.300 --> 01:44:11.520
Where are they playing in Minneapolis? I believe they're playing at the Kamoos. I'm sorry. Is that Minneapolis? You're going, I assume. Yep. Yeah, well, thanks to Albert Mudrian for not having this tour come through D.C. Thanks a lot. Well, I'm going to try that. I know. He lives here, and he doesn't bring the tour through here. I don't get it. Albert lives here, and he never goes to any shows here. Is that right? He's too busy.

01:44:13.280 --> 01:44:43.260
guys remember but I had the flu when they came through last time yeah they were like what's up a jay's a dick he didn't come out and see us well they were I was supposed to bring him a bunch of beer but I'll tell you I'm gonna I'll see him I'll be there this time so cool all right uh john all right I guess I'm the only one with this on here and I'm hoping this comes out because it was supposed to come out last year that's uh the new age of taurus yeah the colony string actually I thought that was coming out the like last month so I guess that means they're not

01:44:44.480 --> 01:45:13.160
No. Not that I know of. Not that I know. All right. Will. I just want to confirm. Are we doing honorable mentions at some point? Yeah. Okay. So my number four. Clutch. Oh, yeah. Really? Number four. What? Number four? Man, number four.

01:45:14.520 --> 01:45:43.260
It should be called relentless. It's only number four on his anticipated list. Just wait. It'll be number one. It'll be number one. Don't worry. All right, Jay. I'm hoping for something a little closer to the earlier in their catalog, but High and Fire is supposed to release records this year. I didn't know that. It's in the can. They spent last year making a

01:45:43.300 --> 01:46:13.080
Sleep Record, which still isn't out. And then High and Fire is supposed to be finishing theirs up. They just played here on Tuesday in D.C. and I had a ticket and I didn't go. But do you feel good or what? Are you busy? Busy listening to Clutch? Yeah, don't, don't. Even they're busting your balls. I love it. No, bring it on. I love it. Well, you've probably seen them before though. No, I haven't. That is the one.

01:46:13.100 --> 01:46:42.020
You've never seen High on Fire? No. That is weird. I've seen him a gazillion times. How's that possible you haven't seen him and I have? You saw Sleep. You know what it is. Here's the issue. Will saw Sleep one time and he saw Mike Pike's stomach. I've spent so many nights away with all the Atlas shows that I had three shows this week. And so to go to a High on Fire show was like, and I tried to give the ticket away.

01:46:43.080 --> 01:47:12.640
No one would take it. When you walk in the house, do your kids scream like it's a home invasion? Do your kids start screaming when you walk in the house? Like, who the fuck is this guy, Mom? Anyway. So, who's next? Georgie. Oh, I guess it is. All right. Another cricket moment here, but Voivod. No, no, it's not cricket. No, no, I'm with you on that. Wait, I'm sorry. Did you say Voivod? Voivod. Saxon.

01:47:15.080 --> 01:47:39.180
George is unique in that pronunciation, I do believe. He's uniquely stupid. You know, dude, stay on your ground. I'm fucking right. No, you're wrong. That's the Canadian pronunciation. It's correct, eh? All right, let's get some number three. Hey, I call him Iran Madan.

01:47:44.060 --> 01:48:12.040
All five million fans in the world are wrong. I pronounce clutch. Bullshit! Do you want to do Celtic Frost? Celtic Frost? There we go. I'm telling you, that's how Tom pronounced it. Celtic Frost. Screw you guys. If you're not from Boston, you don't get to call it Celtic. I can see these guys are chomping on their number three. Back to you guys. My number three is Obscura Deluvium. Nice.

01:48:13.640 --> 01:48:41.380
I know I just pissed everybody off by saying that. I'm very excited for that album. They just missed my list. Yeah. So. All right. I didn't want to take someone else's entry, but that's my. We do it all the time. For three. I'm going to go with Cynic. They just put out a single, so I assume they've got an album coming out this year. I'm nervous about them without Sean Reiner. Get Good's production on the singles. Wait, wait, wait. What happened to Sean? He's long gone. Yeah.

01:48:46.080 --> 01:49:13.060
He left two years ago. It was a couple months ago that they announced that he's finally moving separate ways. But they've put out a single with a new drummer. Get Good is producing. I want to hear the whole album. I'm not going to judge a Cynic album off of one song. Yeah, I'm curious to hear what Nolly does with the production, but I don't know. I'm not sold so far on the first single. Oh, see, I'm opposite of you guys. I actually like the single because it's

01:49:13.080 --> 01:49:40.920
way more aggressive than anything they've done in a long time. It just has clean vocals. That's the only difference. You say aggressive or progressive? Aggressive. Okay. But with John, there's always a 90% chance it was progressive. Yeah. Or it was a reasonable question, Will. Or a 90% chance that Will thought it was progressive just because that's all I say. We had an interesting debate about this thing. John, I've never heard you say aggressive before. Go ahead. Go ahead.

01:49:43.080 --> 01:50:13.060
is that... No, no, no, there was a debate about the single. Oh, yeah. Jared and I went into a long debate about whether the single is good or not. What was our conclusion to that? I haven't come to a conclusion. My tentative conclusion is I think the song's good. I think the production's a bit too modern for it to sound properly, like, cynic to me. But I can kind of understand them wanting to distance themselves from the Reiner ears sonically. So it's an understandable decision. Yeah, I think...

01:50:13.100 --> 01:50:43.060
whole thing was I'm not sure if Cynic really wants to be associated with the gent crowd because that's what they would be doing if they have not only produced this record which they are I mean he did the new Devin Townsend and that sounds great and that doesn't sound gent so we'll just have to see what happens so cool fair enough all right Matt then oh sorry that's right you didn't go yet on number three is the Tesseract there they have new stuff coming out apparently that's what I heard

01:50:43.100 --> 01:51:12.120
I love Polaris. It was a perfect record, I think. Yeah. Yeah, John and I saw them when they were on tour with Gojira. That was pretty good. Yeah. I'm jealous. That sounds like an awesome show. All right, now Matt. My number three is Panopticon, and I don't remember that title. Did that just get added? It's a little too long. No, actually, I had that one. Yeah, because you're from the region and you know these things? No, from Facebook.

01:51:13.080 --> 01:51:43.060
I see. Is that album one, two, three, or four that you're looking forward to the most? Kind of the three, I hear. Three. All right, John? The guy that George and I were talking to with today in New Zealand is a band called Sojourner. Nice. And the album's called The Shadowed Road. I'm definitely looking forward to that. Yeah, the first song on that sounds really good. Yeah, and they could have

01:51:43.160 --> 01:52:11.820
album cover art of the year ready for me. Yeah, it's pretty sweet looking. Yeah. Will? My number three, Bohemoth. Nice choice. Jay? Yep. What I think would be fair to be called My Clutch. Whenever Monster Magnet comes out with a record, I'm excited. They got a new one coming out next month. That's right.

01:52:14.160 --> 01:52:40.840
Did you like the single? Yeah, that fits in with what they did. But their singles notoriously do not represent well what happens on what I think are records that are pretty good little hard rock journeys. Sweet. So I expect it to be good. My number three, Behemoth. All right, we're down to number two.

01:52:43.520 --> 01:53:13.060
That's you guys. All right. My number two pick is Andrew W.K. You're Not Alone. Wow. Is that true? Yep. That is true. I am really looking forward to it. I can't wait. I saw him DJ at Black Sabbath. There's something weird about that guy. And I mean, in a good way. I can't tell if he's a genius or like some idiot who just crawled out of a trailer park. And I don't think there's anything wrong with trailer parks. But I like that. It's enjoyable. Same. I don't know.

01:53:13.080 --> 01:53:43.060
I don't know what his deal is and I can't figure him out but I have a lot of fun listening to him so I love that he's still wearing the same t-shirt jeans too or at least same color yep good for you man Stan I I'm not particularly a fan but I've always had such an odd you know out of the corner of my eye like what's going on with that fucking guy I just think he's a fascinating person and I like his I love the I love the first two albums he had I like his self-help blog yeah he'll also show up on CNN

01:53:43.100 --> 01:54:11.960
as a commentator of it once in a while. You know what I mean? It's just weird. He's definitely a character, for sure. He's like the Andy Kaufman of Hard Rock or whatever it is that he does. You know what I mean? I don't know if he's serious or not, but okay. Does he have a cape? No. No. If you know what I'm talking about there. The professional wrestling thing, I assume. Not all heroes have capes. Yes. Not all heroes have capes, fair enough. Next. Next.

01:54:13.080 --> 01:54:16.740
I'd have to go with the uh Dredka I guess you pronounce it

01:54:17.620 --> 01:54:21.460
no no it's it's pronounced it's pronounced slugge

01:54:22.160 --> 01:54:22.620
no sorry

01:54:25.000 --> 01:54:27.520
C-R-U-G-K-H

01:54:27.900 --> 01:54:30.440
it's called Day Off to See Dreams About the Spring

01:54:30.980 --> 01:54:35.200
um I like being sad I'm sure that's gonna be a really fabulous record

01:54:35.200 --> 01:54:36.380
yeah I expect it will be

01:54:37.640 --> 01:54:42.440
and I think you did say it right um our the bass player in my band is from Ukraine

01:54:42.440 --> 01:55:11.420
But I think it's more like it's like punching somebody in the face but you got the gist of it. He's probably listening. He's listening right now laughing at all of us. That sounds like what they sound like. My number two would be the new Tool album. That's optimistic. That's going to come out this year. Sure it is.

01:55:12.480 --> 01:55:42.420
I thought I was going to say that. When George was saying they haven't had a record in 12 years, that's what I thought you were going to say. Not that I think you would. I hope. Yeah, it'd be nice. I kind of gave up on them, to be honest with you, at this point. It's not a reasonable... It'll get here when it gets here. It'll be great when it gets here. I don't think they're going to get worse and worse. I think I saw something that... I didn't think 10,000 days was that great. I think I saw something that Maynard said he was going to take half as long on the lyrics as the rest of the guys took on the music. He took that tweet down after only a

01:55:42.460 --> 01:56:12.140
a few hours. It was up for like three hours. They got him to... Yeah. Well, actually, funnily enough, Nurgle was just at their practice space. Yeah, I saw that. I follow him on Facebook, yeah, and he posted a picture, and according to him, he heard the new record. No, he posted an audio. He posted some audio, yeah. He posted some audio on his Instagram. I forget what website I caught that on, but yeah, that was going around. Yeah, he posted some audio of him singing basically,

01:56:12.440 --> 01:56:40.940
Our Father, the Lord's Prayer, which is the lyrics of New Behemoth. So are you saying he posted lyrics or whatever posted? Tool Behemoth. I believe he posted a video from the Tool rehearsal. It was a short little clip. I was trying to figure out the connection there. My guess is I know he knows Brent Hines.

01:56:42.460 --> 01:57:12.340
the band with Danny Kerr. I was just trying to figure out how did he get into that room. But I think that album's pretty cool. I've been enjoying Legend of the Single Man. Yeah, I've been enjoying that. He got in that room because he's fucking Nurgle and he's better than all those guys. You know what? I stand fucking corrected Will. That's exactly what happened. Yeah. I mean, come on. Every single person we just mentioned last time. And they're like, Urkel? Who are you? I forgot the majesty of heavy metal and all that it entails. And you're right. That motherfucker walked into that room. Yeah, he walked in that room like, hey,

01:57:12.460 --> 01:57:42.300
Fuck Faces. Yeah, I'm gonna go ahead and say, Will, that even though Tool's only put one out about the last 17 years, Danny Carey kind of stands on his own. He doesn't need to be upstaged by anybody. Oh, yeah. Yeah. I mean, no, no. He's considered one of the best drummers alive. He is. Unbelievable musicians, but come on. Yeah. But no motivation whatsoever. Also, I didn't like 10,000 days that much. I'm not too excited about it. 10,000 days was a waste of time.

01:57:42.460 --> 01:58:10.860
And I don't even like tool that was a preview of how long it was gonna be till the next album. Yeah, basically. Yeah. Well, the next one should be called fucking 12,000 days or something. I don't know. 20,000. Yeah. All right. Did we get all you boys over there? Yep. We're on to Matt. Okay. Matt. My number two is Nergo and Friends. Is there a new Nergo and Friends record coming out? That is the Pussy Project. Yeah, it's his children's album.

01:58:12.440 --> 01:58:41.640
He's talking about doing a folk Americana album at one point. It's out. The Me and the Man. Yeah, Me and that Man. That Man, yeah. Sounds like a Lou Reed album. Yeah, sort of a country, like Daniel Lenoir kind of produced type deal. Okay. Sold. Yeah. Yeah, you might check it out. It's not bad. I like it. It's not, you know, it is what you described. It's not a metal record by any strange sense. All right.

01:58:44.960 --> 01:59:12.300
Did not know that a song was released from this like a couple hours ago tonight. But good enough. It was on my list anyway. Barren Earth, a complex of cages. I didn't know it was coming up. Who's singing on that? Explain Barren Earth. So is it like what kind of genre or whatever? Oh, geez. Death, Doom, Prague. They're kind of like old.

01:59:12.460 --> 01:59:41.080
Amorphous from the mid-90s, late-90s period, that sound. Because one of the guys was in Amorphous at that time. It's the singer from, George, how do you say their name, Hamforth or whatever, the Doom band that just released an album. Is it really? I didn't know that. He's the singer on the last album, too. Yeah, I remember they switched singers and I was kind of like, meh, after they switched, so I didn't know who it was. One of the guitars from Crater is in there, Will.

01:59:43.440 --> 02:00:12.240
Well, then, they're obviously awesome. Obviously. We've talked about them before. You just didn't remember because it was a band that I mentioned. You were like, yeah, because apparently I don't listen to any metal at all. So, hey, do you like slack? I'm like, do you not pay attention to anything I say? Yeah. Will is my pod wife because I don't know. That's like, I don't pay attention to anything I say. Yes. I like slack. I like

02:00:12.280 --> 02:00:12.820
I like them a lot.

02:00:14.680 --> 02:00:16.160
You like them here, you like them here.

02:00:16.260 --> 02:00:17.100
You like them everywhere.

02:00:17.400 --> 02:00:17.780
All right, guys.

02:00:18.000 --> 02:00:23.480
I know you guys are like on the sidelines listening to this inner podcast.

02:00:25.040 --> 02:00:25.680
Squabbles fighting.

02:00:26.340 --> 02:00:26.420
Yeah.

02:00:27.100 --> 02:00:28.300
How about your number two, Will?

02:00:28.400 --> 02:00:28.960
We can go with that.

02:00:28.980 --> 02:00:29.580
Oh, my number two?

02:00:29.820 --> 02:00:31.160
Yeah, give us something to make fun of, Will.

02:00:31.540 --> 02:00:32.260
Judas Priest.

02:00:33.020 --> 02:00:33.360
Oh, okay.

02:00:34.960 --> 02:00:36.480
Because I love Judas Priest.

02:00:37.880 --> 02:00:37.980
Yeah.

02:00:38.500 --> 02:00:40.560
There's no way I can make fun of that, so I'm just going to go.

02:00:41.180 --> 02:00:41.340
Yeah.

02:00:42.800 --> 02:01:11.580
So Jay? No, I'm just... It's at my number two just because... We've all been fans from the earliest days, so I'm always just absolutely curious of what they're going to do next. They're family, dude. Yeah, exactly. Alright, my number two is... Sog has a new record coming out this year. Nice. Sog. Sog. Sog.

02:01:13.960 --> 02:01:41.820
I had a talk with Gage about them. I know George likes them too. I'm not sure who all knows them, but their late-era records are great. They're not listening to them. I like the earlier ones better. Yeah, I think people tend to decide one way or the other, that's for sure. I like them all, but... All right. Number two, George. My number two, one I'm surprised I haven't heard yet, Eson. Oh. Yeah. Is it been officially announced? I thought Gage.

02:01:41.980 --> 02:02:10.680
It was already in the can. Somebody. That's right. Yeah, they did. Yeah. I haven't seen a date on that yet. I'm pretty sure it's listed as coming out this year, though. Okay, that's why I didn't mention it on my list because it didn't have a date or anything or a month. Do we all have the same number one? I don't know. You and I might have the same one. No, I'm pretty sure we don't. I know John doesn't. Will and I might.

02:02:11.960 --> 02:02:12.480
We'll see.

02:02:14.240 --> 02:02:14.440
What?

02:02:14.680 --> 02:02:16.720
I doubt anyone in this room has the same one.

02:02:16.820 --> 02:02:17.380
Yeah, probably not.

02:02:17.660 --> 02:02:17.920
All right.

02:02:18.020 --> 02:02:19.160
Well, what is your number one?

02:02:19.980 --> 02:02:21.040
Yeah, let's test that theory.

02:02:22.700 --> 02:02:23.120
That's my turn.

02:02:23.780 --> 02:02:23.860
Yep.

02:02:24.060 --> 02:02:24.200
Go ahead.

02:02:24.800 --> 02:02:27.080
My number one is Demu Borgir Ionian.

02:02:27.400 --> 02:02:27.620
Nice.

02:02:29.680 --> 02:02:30.900
I was wondering if anybody would list that.

02:02:31.820 --> 02:02:33.620
Huge fan, and I'm super stoked.

02:02:33.860 --> 02:02:36.480
Yeah, I'm very curious to see what that's going to sound like.

02:02:37.100 --> 02:02:38.760
Seven years is too long to wait.

02:02:39.660 --> 02:02:40.280
Wow, yeah.

02:02:41.220 --> 02:02:42.120
Better than 12.

02:02:43.160 --> 02:02:43.440
That's true.

02:02:45.780 --> 02:02:46.660
Are you talking about corners now?

02:02:47.800 --> 02:02:48.180
25.

02:02:48.860 --> 02:02:49.600
Oh, 25.

02:02:50.060 --> 02:02:50.760
Sorry, Jay.

02:02:51.660 --> 02:02:52.720
My math is a little off.

02:02:54.320 --> 02:02:54.840
Keep them coming.

02:02:56.160 --> 02:02:57.020
Crippled Black Phoenix.

02:02:57.600 --> 02:02:58.640
Horrific Honorifics.

02:02:58.780 --> 02:03:01.560
I am super excited for the new Crippled Black Phoenix album.

02:03:01.720 --> 02:03:03.380
That's definitely my number one of the year.

02:03:03.440 --> 02:03:03.660
Cool.

02:03:04.440 --> 02:03:05.720
I didn't know that was coming up.

02:03:06.820 --> 02:03:09.220
Well, I didn't know we were allowed to do remasters.

02:03:09.740 --> 02:03:39.380
So this actually changed what I was going to do for number one. Well, give us both. Well, okay. So originally it was going to be the Swords new album. But after hearing the single that they put out. Wisely changed your mind. It's disappointing. I love Dwarf Writers and I loved Age of Winter. Have you heard the newest Swords album? I liked Low Country.

02:03:41.420 --> 02:04:09.680
I actually liked Low Country more than I liked High Country. But replacing that is a remaster. It's August Burns Red is remastering Messengers, their second full-length album. Oh, fuck. I like Metalcore. Fuck. We're looking for a new drummer, if anybody knows. I mean, we're fine. No, no. Messengers is my favorite of their albums, and it actually got me further into metal. So I think it's super exciting.

02:04:09.740 --> 02:04:38.780
It's a gateway drug. So when you're alone on that island, on Metalcore, what do you bring to that island? Do you bring food or do you bring Metalcore? Just Metalcore. There you go. It's the food for the soul. Come on. The best thing I can say about the new Sword record, and I'm not joking, is that it makes me more excited about the Sam Dunn documentary about ZZ Top. They totally stole the ZZ Top Eliminator car. They totally stole the ZZ Top Eliminator car and put it on the cover of their new album.

02:04:39.720 --> 02:05:09.700
I mean, you remember, you remember, you remember Sam Duns doing a documentary about them, right? I love ZZ Top, they're fucking great, but. I, I, I saw the, I saw Billy and Dusty up close once at the, uh, uh, the Preakness show here in Baltimore. Uh, my friends in, uh, Charm City Devils were playing. And so I got to, uh, go along and shoot some photos and their trailer was next to ZZ Top's and we're standing out front of their trailer and, uh, Billy and Dusty come out and, you know, I'm shooting pictures and I've got my

02:05:22.980 --> 02:05:39.680
I just watched it.

02:05:39.740 --> 02:06:09.540
It was amazing. They still sound fucking awesome. Yeah, they sounded good. Yeah, they're coming to our area in a few months. I'm really excited for that. I looked up right away to see if there were any Twitterits in my area. There were not. Now you know how we feel. Yeah, that's right. All right, Matt. Matt, yeah. All right, my number one is Car Cass. Car Cass. Love those guys. Oh, dude, I had no fucking idea. Yeah. What? Again, again, I think they have an album coming out, but I could be wrong, so don't get your answer.

02:06:09.740 --> 02:06:39.640
Matt, describe it somehow. I'm lost. What? Carcass. No, just... Oh. Iran, you know. I did not know that that was in the way. Fucking cool. It looked great. That's okay. I really hope they have Mel coming out next year, now that I say.

02:06:39.740 --> 02:07:08.820
Oh, I'm pretty sure they do. All right, John. All right, well, this one's for you. It's a band's been around for a little while. They're Juddist, Pari, with their album Firepower. Shut the fuck up. You want my mind to explode? Like, I have no idea who that is. All right, let me do it a little slower. Judas Priest. Wait, wait.

02:07:09.740 --> 02:07:39.700
I'm sorry. You got it that time. I think you heard it right. I hope you did that time. I don't know. Maybe I just... Wait, how did you say it the first time? J'ai des Pree. I think he kind of went French on you. J'ai des Pree. J'ai des Pree. Well, it was like maybe half and just... Look, I mean, I don't expect this album to be anything, but being a fan of this for 40 years, to me, this could be

02:07:39.740 --> 02:08:09.680
their last hurrah, why wouldn't it be an important album to want to see and listen to and see them on tour? Hell yeah. If it's the bill of anticipated without question. Not necessarily anticipated to be amazing. And even if it's not a great album, I was still looking forward to it. Yeah. All right, Will. Camus. Camus. Camus. And I'll tell you why. Because I was a latecomer to Camus.

02:08:10.020 --> 02:08:38.760
And you guys all know that. And when I saw him at the Decimal Metal Beer Fest last year, it kind of like it finally clicked. Like, wow, these guys are just un-fucking-believable. And I'm just curious as to what they're going to. The reason why Chemist is number one on my list this year is because I'm just curious what they're going to do. And it's more of a I'm a latecomer to it. So I just want to like, what are they going to do this year?

02:08:38.860 --> 02:09:07.560
What will those crazy boys do next? When I went into this, I was basically looking at the Decimal Magazine, like what is coming out this year? What's the most highly anticipated albums coming out this year? And so I was expecting to get a lot of, or hear you guys talk about a lot of albums. I'm like, oh yeah, I forgot about that one. I forgot about that one, but you haven't, so. Oh, fuck you, man. You're like, oh, fuck you guys.

02:09:11.300 --> 02:09:38.640
But apparently you guys don't know shit. You said all the predictable stuff I thought you'd say. Well, what's yours, Jay? Well, if I had known Nurgle and Friends had a record coming out, I would have chosen that. But I have to go with The Behemoth. The Satanist was so fucking good. And Nurgle said some things in the public sphere of late about how enthused he is right now and how he's feeling it. And I know the record's written.

02:09:38.860 --> 02:10:08.400
and they're in the process. So I super high hopes for that one, man. Did you see the video of him? I guess I don't know. It's not quite a lyric video, but it's him singing the lyrics. It's on YouTube or whatever. It's basically the Lord's Prayer. I feel like I've heard that somewhere. But what was it? What's in the is it music to it or what? I'll look it up. Sorry, you guys fucking with me because I said this already or what?

02:10:08.840 --> 02:10:33.580
Yeah, you did, but I mean, it was all mixed in with a tool. It's all that clutch you've been wanting to do. We love you, Will. It's turning your brain to much. So I already said it, but I'm going to say it again. Behemoth. Not much more I could be more excited about this year. What about you, George? Well, my number one, I can't believe nobody at all, nobody at all has said this yet but Chemist.

02:10:38.620 --> 02:11:08.280
Will should be like, I'm happy. Yeah, I would have thought Will would have thought of that one. No, man, Chemist, for sure. I have to echo what Will said in that I'm really curious as to what they're going to do. I mean, you know, it's going to be Doom, I'm sure. But what really kind of made me wonder was that split they did with Spirit Adrift. Now, obviously those were covers of like old Americana songs, but it was just so cool.

02:11:08.380 --> 02:11:36.780
I'm like, well, you know, are we going to get more of the same, which would be fine? Or is it going to go a little different? I don't know. We'll have to see. So that's definitely highly anticipated. All right. How about some honorable mentions? Anybody have honorable mentions? Yeah. These you can just rattle off a list of them if you have them. Most of mine have come up already. Demi Bourgier, Obscura, Yab.

02:11:38.400 --> 02:12:06.740
The new pig destroyer tool if it actually happens. Black tusk. I'm excited for the new black tusk. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Yeah, most of my stuff got said already. Okay. Steven? No, not really. We all have like, you know, a list that we made together of stuff that we like and I don't know. We share a lot of the same things, but we try to stay unique with what we picked. Cool.

02:12:08.400 --> 02:12:38.340
I like all the same stuff that they picked. I like a lot of the stuff you guys picked too. I didn't know that Behemoth was coming out with something. That's really exciting. Yeah, I missed that somehow. And the chemist. Yeah. All right, Matt. You got any? JP, Exodus, Memoriam. I forgot about the Exodus. And I always feel like I pronounce this man's name wrong. I think it's Rivers of Nile. Yeah. Rivers of Nile. Nile, yeah. Something like that. I think theirs comes out next month. Yeah, I saw something about that.

02:12:38.400 --> 02:13:08.020
Really looking forward to that. Cool. That's it for me. John. Yeah. So we were mentioning Chemist and Eson, I guess. I'll throw that in there. But also, yeah, you know, those guys. King Crow, which I'm guessing I'm the only one who mentioned that. And I'm not as down on this potential album coming out, but I am reserving my opinion on it. And that's the new Primordial. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. No, I thought that would be mixed.

02:13:09.520 --> 02:13:37.880
I thought if anybody said it, they would have caution behind it. So we'll see. Yeah, I mean, we'll see. I'm not jumping any guns yet. I didn't care for the new song, but I'm still cautiously optimistic. I didn't either, and that's why I'm reserving judgment. Will? My honorable mentions, Pig Destroyer. Horrendous. I was waiting for that one. God damn it. That's another one I didn't realize. Napalm Death and this band, Car,

02:13:40.420 --> 02:14:07.480
Krakash. That's it. You're right on the money there. Karkash. Yeah, a lot of people like them. Yeah, or Karkas. Well done, sir. Karkas. Karkas. Karkas. Karkas. La Cucaracha. La Cucaracha, the capital of Venezuela coming on. All right. These are the two that it was hardest to leave off my list, were The Pig Destroyer and Judas Priest. Very excited about both of those records.

02:14:08.400 --> 02:14:36.980
And then two of all the things that were mentioned here, I am mad as to know I didn't know about the Carcass and Horrendous. So they're both on my honorable mentions now. Do you not get Decimal Magazine, Jay? I actually don't, to be perfectly frank. But I didn't. I mean, were you the one who just said Horrendous? Yeah. Was there an article about it or was it just like a big list of records? No, no, it's in Decimal. Okay. Yeah, that fucking last record was so great, man. They were great at Death Fest, too.

02:14:41.280 --> 02:15:07.900
What turns you on more? The horrendous thing you just did. No, do that. Do that thing again. There you go. I'm recording that. Good on you. George. Most of mine have been said Napalm Death, Yob, Horrendous, Pig Destroyer, Carcass, and two that I don't think I've heard, Hate Eternal and Skeleton Witch. Oh, that's right. Boy, that Skeleton Witch EP was really good.

02:15:24.860 --> 02:15:38.260
I think it's not unreasonable.

02:15:38.400 --> 02:16:08.360
to expect that we'll be getting that at some point. Yeah, he said he has a new band and they're working on stuff. Wow. Yeah. That's a surprise. I'm sure it'll be really long. Yeah. Fast. Yeah. Well, that'd be cool. Interesting. All right. Honestly, I thought they were probably done. I thought they were probably done for good. I thought it was probably done. They've got a lineup. They've been demoing new material. Yeah. Awesome. Let's hope that happens. Yeah, they've been talking a lot of stuff on the internet. On the interwebs. Yeah. All right. We're in the

02:16:09.760 --> 02:16:12.660
And this is What Are We Listening To.

02:16:36.860 --> 02:17:05.820
If you guys have a list of things you've just been listening to lately that you want to mention, now's the time. Let's see. I know I've been listening to that Harikari for the Sky. I've listened to Leprous, pretty much. Leprous and a lot of more upbeat, hoppy side of stuff, like Polyphilia or Polyphilia. I've been listening to a lot of Cindy Lauper. Nice.

02:17:07.740 --> 02:17:10.000
I like Cindy Lauper. I've been listening to

02:17:10.429 --> 02:17:12.620
Oh yeah. Girls just want to have fun.

02:17:15.230 --> 02:17:15.840
I've been listening to that

02:17:15.929 --> 02:17:17.280
Beck album Morning Phase

02:17:17.519 --> 02:17:18.880
a lot. Good.

02:17:19.719 --> 02:17:22.219
It's really, really good. I love that.

02:17:22.480 --> 02:17:24.139
And then Casualty's a cool

02:17:24.940 --> 02:17:25.800
Devin Townsend album.

02:17:26.290 --> 02:17:27.700
I've been on a really weird

02:17:28.500 --> 02:17:30.280
let's see how much reverb we can put on

02:17:30.280 --> 02:17:32.260
our pop music kick and it's been really fun.

02:17:34.301 --> 02:17:34.820
Cool.

02:17:35.500 --> 02:17:35.760
Sweetness.

02:17:35.860 --> 02:17:36.540
Yeah.

02:17:38.139 --> 02:17:38.540
Matt.

02:17:38.840 --> 02:17:40.059
I don't listen to a lot of metal these days.

02:17:40.620 --> 02:17:40.760
Unfortunately.

02:17:42.179 --> 02:17:43.580
Sometimes you can just don't.

02:17:45.160 --> 02:17:45.300
Yeah.

02:17:45.300 --> 02:17:45.559
It's true.

02:17:46.440 --> 02:17:47.219
It comes and goes.

02:17:47.639 --> 02:17:47.820
Yeah.

02:17:48.059 --> 02:17:50.460
You know, we're all we all have wide and varied.

02:17:52.280 --> 02:17:52.500
Things.

02:17:52.980 --> 02:17:53.139
Things.

02:17:54.080 --> 02:17:54.480
Tastes.

02:17:54.679 --> 02:17:55.080
They're called tastes.

02:17:55.980 --> 02:17:57.460
Some people have a way with words.

02:17:57.559 --> 02:17:58.880
I don't know.

02:17:59.040 --> 02:18:00.059
Not have way, I guess.

02:18:01.679 --> 02:18:01.840
Johnny.

02:18:02.240 --> 02:18:03.080
Or did we hit it?

02:18:03.099 --> 02:18:31.960
No, it's Matt now. Oh, I'm sorry, Matt. I keep forgetting. It's such a small circle up there. Yeah. Right after the year-end episode, I know we talked about what we were going to listen to after we put all the time into making our list. And I wanted to revisit Death a little bit. And honestly, I just got sucked in, and I have not been able to get out of it. Basically, just Death albums on repeat. Not the genre. I also got around to reading Choosing Death.

02:18:32.880 --> 02:19:02.840
And I just remember as I was reading it thinking I should really be writing down all these albums that they're talking about in the book. And then one day as I flipped to the back, I was like, of course, we're metalheads. We make lists. And there is lists of all the albums that they talk about by year. So I made playlists either for each year or for groups of years based on how many albums are in each one. I went through the late 80s and 90s, and I've been spending that a lot. As far as newer stuff, I like the new Hooded Menace. I found a band called

02:19:02.880 --> 02:19:32.660
Arcona, their new album I like. Another band called Centuries, Clam Fight, and then obviously a lot of the Atlas Moth the last few days. Cool. John? So same with me. Atlas Moth got a good listen to today. I mentioned The Sojourner, the one song that came from that, and Barren Earth, the new song. Still spinning the Mike LaPond Silent Assassins album a lot. Tribulation.

02:19:32.880 --> 02:20:02.840
Jay would be happy to hear that uh the hair carry for the sky and then I kind of got tired of new stuff and started digging back to some albums I haven't listened to in a while so I pulled out the mantle by Agaloc always like to give that a spin every so often um and then no I'm not going to do a list of what are the 40th anniversary albums for this year coming up however tomorrow is the 40th anniversary for two albums which are mammoth albums

02:20:02.860 --> 02:20:32.660
in terms of their place in history. The one, I spun both of these today again, love both of them so much. Van Halen's first album came out 40 years ago tomorrow, which will be February 10th for anyone who's listening. And I know Jay agrees with me on this one. Without question, Priest's best album, in my opinion, Stayin' Class. Here it comes. Wow, that came out the same year as the first Van Halen. Yes. That doesn't match up in my memory correctly, but that's nevertheless. Yeah. Definitely my fave. Yeah.

02:20:32.860 --> 02:21:01.700
Me too. You'll be happy to know, John, I got a copy of a reissue that came out recently, at least I found in the record store, and it's Killing Machine. So now I have a Hellbent for a Liver and a Killing Machine. And a Killing Machine. So just a quick question, Jay, on your Killing Machine, is it short one song? Because on the Killing Machine, Green Man Alicia's not included. Yeah, it's not on them. It's the reissue. They did it just like it was. Oh, okay. All right, Will?

02:21:05.040 --> 02:21:32.080
I've been listening to because on Super Bowl Sunday, the Trouble the Skull played at Atlas. So I've been they gave me a free vinyl. So I've been spinning the vinyl quite a bit on the skull. Kink Snake just played last night at Atlas. I got their album playing that a lot. It was the Holly Hunt Slowmatic 17 split.

02:21:32.880 --> 02:22:02.600
And I love the slow-matic. So when I saw they had a 70s split, I picked that up. Tribulation, I've been listening to that. Still not sure what I think about it. We'll see. Did you like the last one? Yeah. I'm not the biggest fan. I don't hate them. It's just sort of meh. It's not my musical genre. But I'm trying to love the new one.

02:22:02.880 --> 02:22:32.260
It got a perfect 10 on Decibel's album ranking, but I'm just trying to... I'm working my way through it. Kind of thing. God bless our dear leader. He put Ilsa Corp Fortress in the box, so I've been listening to that. Local DC... Ilsa's a local DC band, and then Genocide Pack is obviously to me a local DC band.

02:22:32.880 --> 02:23:02.840
the new album, Order of Torment. They've played Atlas numerous times. Just a three-piece, great bunch of dudes. They're now... They are... Sorry. Signed. Sorry. Signed to relapse. So Genocide Pack, they're signed to relapse now. So they're kind of blowing up. So hopefully they do not...

02:23:02.880 --> 02:23:04.400
Forget where they came from.

02:23:04.760 --> 02:23:05.220
Which is Atlas.

02:23:06.340 --> 02:23:07.160
Which is Atlas.

02:23:07.881 --> 02:23:09.540
They came from Atlas.

02:23:10.280 --> 02:23:10.620
No, no.

02:23:11.181 --> 02:23:12.760
They're just good dudes.

02:23:13.640 --> 02:23:19.020
And then they played their CD release party was at the Rock Room Hotel.

02:23:19.900 --> 02:23:21.240
And they play with Mammoth Grinder.

02:23:21.860 --> 02:23:26.880
So I've been listening to a lot of Mammoth Grinder and their album Cosmic Crypt that just came out.

02:23:26.960 --> 02:23:56.040
And then all to the joy of everyone on this podcast, I've been listening to a lot of the Cormorant, Diaspora, and then the Pestilence, Hadion. Nice. All right. You know, I've had the Cormorant. I swim. When I swim, I have this iPod you can listen to underwater, and the Cormorant is on there right now and a bunch of other stuff. And I have it. It's on shuffle.

02:23:56.520 --> 02:24:24.080
It's just a little shuffle. And every time a Cormorant song, it's like almost all death stuff I have in there, every time a Cormorant song, it stands out like a sore thumb, dude. It's just that much better than everything else that's in that playlist right now. I was going to say, Jay, you play two songs then when you swim from Cormorant? Honestly, dude, I swear to God, I listened to the final track from Diaspora came on today. And I swim for an hour, dude, and it was like a big chunk of my swim was that song.

02:24:26.520 --> 02:24:56.340
I've been listening to... Somebody at work was asking me about Comorat, and I was like, yeah, check them out. I like them. That's great. I asked for a fucking awesome. I have been listening to Tribulation down below, but I've also pulled The Night Children, Children of the Night, rather, back into my rotation. I listened to The Herded Menace a bunch this week. Probably that would have to be my album,

02:24:56.560 --> 02:25:25.580
of the month for this month depending on what else happens this month. The Pestilence I've been listening to on and off. I still am spinning the Morbid Angel. There's a couple songs in there I really like but a lot of it's kind of samey. Slaghead you guys are also on my swim pod right now so I'm listening to you a lot. And I am and Cormorant is on there and I am stuck in a Temple of the Void guilt place because I did not put them on my list this year and I'm fucking loving both of the Lords of Death.

02:25:26.540 --> 02:25:56.000
And I went looking for them and blinded. You can't find them anywhere right now, dude. They're like super expensive if you see them. That's it. All right. As I am notorious for, I have a long list, so I'm going to try and... Son of a... I'm going to try and keep it quick. The Agrimonia album, Awaken, Apathy Noir, Black Soil, one of our Swedish progressive death tune band, Apophis, Devoratus,

02:25:56.520 --> 02:26:25.720
Tech Death from the Netherlands. Astrakhan. I don't know. I don't understand. I feel like there should be punctuation in this in this album title. Without new growth, process is bloodshed. You're still on the letter A, by the way. Yeah. Anyway, I got this next one from Gage last episode. Bestia Arcana, Holo Koston. It's a black death band from Colorado. Black Wizard, Living Oblivion.

02:26:26.540 --> 02:26:54.800
Oblivion, Vancouver Stoner Doom Band, Blood Moon, Super Void Trinity. One of our listeners on Facebook told me about this, and it is good. It's a black doom band from California. I just heard this one. It came out today. I didn't realize they had a new album, Crescent. They're an Egyptian black and death metal band. Take that, Niall. Their new album, The Order of Amenti. I highly recommend that. I assume they're actually from Egypt.

02:26:55.420 --> 02:27:25.380
They're from Egypt, yeah. So, George, how did you get it? Because you cannot send PayPal to Egypt. No, no. I think I streamed it on Bandcamp. I think you can stream it on there. Sorry, Jay. What did you say, Jay? I said you're off the clock, buddy. Let it go. No, no, no. You can't. No, no. I remember Crescent from years ago, and I tried to

02:27:29.680 --> 02:27:54.720
They were featured on an early episode of the podcast when their last album came out. And that was the case. I even came across that email the other day. Back then, because Egypt is in the Middle East, PayPal would not take money from there. And so I wrote to the band and was like, hey, man, I want to get the album. It's on Bandcamp, but there's no buy button. And they just sent me the album.

02:27:55.939 --> 02:28:23.320
But now you can get it. I think it's because it's probably, I think it's through a label. So anyway, it's good. Check it out. Next, we've got Gygax, which if anybody is nerdy enough to know who Gary Gygax was, he was one of the co-creators of Dungeons and Dragons, and this band is named for him. And their terribly clever second album, Second Edition, which is based on Second Edition of Dungeons and Dragons.

02:28:24.400 --> 02:28:54.360
We actually have a band campaign going on. And I dig it. It's sort of, you know, D&D based heart rock. I think they have a song. I read they have a song about a Mind Flayer. It's like a love song from the standpoint, the viewpoint of a Mind Flayer. Very nice. Very nice. Next up, it's not a new album or even a new band. The band is called Holland Thon. And they were from the 90s. Sort of Austrian symphonic death.

02:28:55.699 --> 02:29:24.380
And they had an EP and an album that I somehow missed in the 2000s. Opus Magnum was the album and Tyrants and Wraiths was the EP. If you liked Flesh God Apocalypse type stuff, these guys have been doing it for a very long time. What was the name of the band? Holland Thon. Holland Thon. H-O-L-L-E-N-T-H-O-N. Check it out. I'm definitely going to check that out. Yeah, that sounds right up my alley. Then there's another sort

02:29:24.420 --> 02:29:53.620
of interesting band called Huntsman. The album's called American Scrap. They're from Chicago, and it's Americana metal. So it's kind of folky in an almost panopticon-ish sort of way, mixed in with some... It's not terribly heavy, but it's definitely heavier than the Americana parts would lead you to believe. Hey, George. Yeah. You're on H. No, I'm on L now. I'm skipping up to L now, buddy. You're the eighth letter of the alphabet.

02:29:55.479 --> 02:30:22.460
So, hey, Slackhead guys, if you guys want to check out, you want to go... We're getting there. We're getting there. Next up is Last Legion. Their album Muspelheim, their Viking metal from New York City, if that makes any sense. Another one, I don't know how to say this one, Malum, M-A-L-U-M, Night of the Luciferian Light. It's a second album of Finnish black metal. It's kind of classic atmospheric black metal kind of stuff.

02:30:23.640 --> 02:30:53.580
The new Michael Schenker Fest. I guess he ran out of band and project titles. Resurrection, we got the promo for that. If you like Michael Schenker, you might like it. It's got all of his old, not all of them, but most of his previous lead singers on it, so that's the best part. It's kind of like Nurgle and Friends. Gotcha. But without the Muppets. Next we've got Nydvind. Their album Tetramental 1, Seas of Oblivion,

02:30:53.660 --> 02:31:23.400
It's a French pagan metal. Then we've got Owlmaker. We just got the promo for their debut EP called Paths of the Slain. It's a side project from one of the guys from Vestal Claret. It's kind of metal, kind of hard rock. It sounded good. I haven't given it a complete listen yet, but I've liked what I've heard. This next one is Rum Ahoy, The Triumph of Piracy. It's a first album from a pirate metal band from Scotland.

02:31:24.319 --> 02:31:52.340
I feel like I need to cover one of my eyes. Ahoy there, matey! I see. Did you steal that record, by the way, George? That would be appropriate. And now I got a promo for it. Final one, Witch Crier, Cry Witch, Austin Female Fronted Doom Metal. Basically, they went so far out from their name to find the title of that record, didn't they? All right, I have a trivia.

02:31:53.640 --> 02:32:15.720
everybody present and it has that i have this music box here and it plays a familiar song that all of you should know but it's kind of hard to guess just because it's a music box let's see who can get it and it might be obvious but it's not a show tune job it's not a show tune here we go

02:32:23.620 --> 02:32:52.240
I'm assuming that someone made a music box. That's their way to heaven. Gotcha. I'm going to say some fucking bullshit Metallica thing. Well, I was thinking like Ender Sandman or something was going to be something like that. Yeah, exactly. A bullshit Metallica thing. Shut the fuck up. What didn't you understand? Yeah, like what bullshit Metallica thing did you not understand about Ender Sandman being a bullshit Metallica thing?

02:33:19.880 --> 02:33:22.580
We're on iTunes, Bandcamp, Spotify,

02:33:23.520 --> 02:33:52.440
Amazon, all that fun stuff. Apple Music. YouTube. YouTube. We have a music video for our song Children of Decay. And the album is called Than It's Not. And we are Slag Hat from Hampton, Virginia. And thanks so much for having us. Oh, yeah, thank you. It's our pleasure, dude. I promise you, if you post those fucking t-shirts, I'll buy one, but you're going to have to post them. Is one of them the album cover? Yeah, one of them is a reimagining of the album cover.

02:33:53.600 --> 02:34:22.980
Yeah, I'll be watching. I assume there'll be a link from the Bandcamp page? Yes. Awesome. Well, it was nice of you guys to come and spend some time with us. Yes, thank you. Thanks for having us. Definitely. Absolutely. All right, and before we go, make sure to check us out on SoundCloud, on Facebook, Twitter. I am Disciple OV Metal. I'm at Catatonic J. I am at Brew Metal Will. I am WhiteCluster69. 69! 69! That's it. You know what?

02:34:23.500 --> 02:34:25.260
I always say it like that 69.

02:34:26.340 --> 02:34:27.520
Like that big XL at the end.

02:34:28.320 --> 02:34:30.280
Because everyone's going to say, 68?

02:34:31.020 --> 02:34:31.140
Really?

02:34:32.840 --> 02:34:33.440
Yeah, how many more?

02:34:33.620 --> 02:34:35.720
There was 68 guys before you that wanted white cluster.

02:34:35.880 --> 02:34:36.220
Go figure.

02:34:36.640 --> 02:34:37.820
And who's number seven?

02:34:38.000 --> 02:34:38.400
Who's pissed?

02:34:39.260 --> 02:34:39.700
And Matt?

02:34:40.420 --> 02:34:42.140
I am the dad of northern darkness.

02:34:42.820 --> 02:34:45.520
Which, by the way, is the greatest handle ever.

02:34:45.520 --> 02:34:45.820
It is.

02:34:46.460 --> 02:34:47.060
Thank you very much.

02:34:47.560 --> 02:34:48.580
It came to me in a blackout.

02:34:52.220 --> 02:35:04.100
We're also on Instagram, Stitcher. You can find us at wearemetalheads.com or metalheadspodcast.com. And always check us out on Bandcamp, see what we're listening to. Thanks for listening. We'll see you next time.

02:35:22.120 --> 02:35:31.880
The eyes have heard of a war can drag me to be to win
