00:00:26.260 --> 00:00:27.980
You must listen.

00:00:28.920 --> 00:00:30.160
You must listen.

00:00:31.540 --> 00:00:32.540
You must listen.

00:00:36.340 --> 00:00:39.980
Now, here is the Podcast Metalheads Podcast.

00:00:42.040 --> 00:00:44.460
Hello, and welcome to the Metalheads Podcast.

00:00:44.750 --> 00:00:45.580
My name is George.

00:00:45.980 --> 00:00:47.120
This is Jay.

00:00:47.560 --> 00:00:48.260
This is Will.

00:00:48.780 --> 00:00:49.400
And this is John.

00:00:50.180 --> 00:00:51.280
We're back!

00:00:52.860 --> 00:00:55.780
I kind of forgot what you guys look like, so it's weird.

00:00:55.860 --> 00:01:23.760
Yeah. So maybe say your name for the first few times when you talk so I remember which one of you. It's been a little while. This is Will talking right now. Yeah. Don't confuse people. Sorry we haven't been around. Summer schedules being what they are. We just have not been able to hook up. Well, we've hooked up, just not recorded. Yes. Well, we have recorded. I don't know. It was recorded. We're not showing it to you.

00:01:26.820 --> 00:01:55.140
Yeah, the Lost Maiden tapes. That's what we're going to call that. Although it's not actually lost. It's just been shelved. Yeah. We'll find somewhere to stick it at some point, much to Will's dismay. We'll figure something out. We all had a really good time. We've actually been doing a lot of concerts lately. Yes, we have. Not all of them metal. It's been a good summer. I've been to U2, Hall & Oates,

00:01:55.880 --> 00:02:25.840
and Lionel Richie in the last month. Let's see. I've been to Decibel Fest and I've been to Oopeth and Gojira. See how your list is so much different than George's list? Yeah, but I'm going to Valken in less than two weeks. That is a pretty big... Hey, go F yourself. Don't make fun of my Hall notes and Madonna and Lady Gaga. No, that's a good comeback. You could use that for a couple of years. I went to Valken. I went to Valken.

00:02:25.880 --> 00:02:27.720
from 452 miles away.

00:02:28.800 --> 00:02:30.540
No, I'm going to be close, damn it.

00:02:31.690 --> 00:02:33.760
Our tent is relatively close to the infield.

00:02:34.340 --> 00:02:35.060
It's right next to it.

00:02:35.640 --> 00:02:36.880
Yeah, that's awesome.

00:02:37.520 --> 00:02:39.440
He'll be drinking the artist's beer.

00:02:39.920 --> 00:02:42.540
Yeah, Chris and I just got our pass passes,

00:02:43.599 --> 00:02:46.460
so we're going to be rubbing elbows with the mighty.

00:02:47.660 --> 00:02:48.100
Nice.

00:02:48.420 --> 00:02:49.380
You guys get to see Emperor.

00:02:49.540 --> 00:02:49.880
That's awesome.

00:02:50.200 --> 00:02:51.880
Yeah, I'm wearing my Emperor shirt right now.

00:02:52.280 --> 00:03:21.080
This is my maiden voyage of my emperor shirt that I am taking to Vakken so that I can be like, Isan, I love you! Anyway. I don't know. Okay. I'm itching to mention the fact that you just heard our brand new intro. Yes. Thank God. Will has been kicking me in the balls for as long as I've known him to get rid of that intro because it's just not metal enough. It's not metal enough. Well, it is gone!

00:03:22.820 --> 00:03:52.200
Now, thank you to our good friend Joel from Thross and Blot. Violetta! Violetta! As well as Ray Amite and Siegfried, the producer on the forthcoming Thross and Blot album. It's not anytime soon, so don't worry about it. But if you go to their Facebook page, you can see that they are in the studio working on it. And while they were there, they were kind enough to put that together for us because Joel fucking rocks! He is the man. Thank you, Joel.

00:03:52.260 --> 00:03:53.000
Thank you.

00:03:53.620 --> 00:03:55.220
But that's not all we've got.

00:03:55.800 --> 00:03:57.020
We've also got a new outro.

00:03:58.800 --> 00:04:00.000
At the end of the episode,

00:04:00.880 --> 00:04:03.340
our good friend Trevor from Ashen Horde,

00:04:04.180 --> 00:04:05.840
him and his new singer Stevie,

00:04:06.300 --> 00:04:08.700
they were kind enough to put together a new outro

00:04:08.880 --> 00:04:10.880
that is going to rip your fucking face off.

00:04:11.700 --> 00:04:14.100
It's called Shrieks of the Damned.

00:04:14.520 --> 00:04:15.940
Is it called Shrieks of the Damned

00:04:15.940 --> 00:04:16.859
because he initially wanted to call it

00:04:16.940 --> 00:04:18.239
Shrieks of the Old Fucking Dudes?

00:04:18.859 --> 00:04:21.299
No, it's because I told him,

00:04:21.800 --> 00:04:50.780
We were talking about what to do, and I was like, don't even... Let's not even put any words on there. Just fucking scream. Forget writing words. Just... I can't even do it, man. Is that the third fucking... Yes, I already said that Thursday. That's just because my voice cracked, but I couldn't... Because I can't do it like Stevie can. Stevie's got a voice, man. So stick around to the end to hear the outro from Ash and Horde. It fucking rips. Are you down with the sickness?

00:04:51.380 --> 00:05:21.040
I am not down with the sickness. Let's just say this is all part of a slight rebranding on our part. We were away for a while, but we're back, and we're coming back with some new shiny stuff. Yeah, we haven't been just sitting on our asses. We've been doing stuff. We got this, and I know Jay, kind man that he is, he was just teeing that next item up for me, which is the website redesign that I also rolled out last week. It's nothing too fancy.

00:05:21.380 --> 00:05:51.340
Yes, it is. It's something too fancy. But it makes the website a lot easier. I got it, Jay. I got it. It makes the website a lot easier to navigate. I love it. I think it's great. Instead of having to scroll through the whole text of any particular article, you've got summaries, and you can fit 10 things on a page, and you can figure out what you want to see. It's just laid out a little nicer. There's even a profile page now that's easily accessible. Yeah, you can go to the About Us page or About page or

00:05:52.160 --> 00:06:19.340
and there are pictures of us. We're sorry about that. Privately, I have promised this to George, at least on several occasions, but I'm going to go public now just to make myself do it, which is I personally am going to make an effort to get more record reviews up there on a regular basis because I enjoy doing it. Yeah, I've said the same thing, Jay. It's just a matter of doing it. It's just a matter of doing it. I'm going to do the same thing. As I've told these guys, I've got to lead by example. I can't expect everybody to write reviews if I'm not doing it, too.

00:06:22.600 --> 00:06:51.180
I'm going to do one pretty quick here as a matter of fact. The website I would like to have people visiting it. So we've got to give them a reason. Indeed. And I've already talked to one other person about starting to do some reviews as well. If you're listening and you like to write or you'd like to try your hand at writing some reviews, get a hold of me. We're willing to look at what you got. Write something up. Pick an album that you dig. Write something about it.

00:06:51.380 --> 00:07:13.000
You know, like a page or two, or however long you think it needs to be, and send it to me at georgeatmetalheadspodcast.com. I'll check it out, and I'll get back to you, and maybe you can start writing, too. Advice would be not to do, or not to take the George approach to a beer review. November's doom. It's death doom.

00:07:15.080 --> 00:07:19.920
That doesn't make sense yet, because it's going to be after. It doesn't make sense now, but it will.

00:07:19.920 --> 00:07:49.900
Yeah, because that's a delayed... Tasting of stout. Stick around to the end to figure out what that means. Yeah, the pun slang comes later. See, it's kind of like when you see a movie and they throw in Star Wars, I'm sure you've seen the little things they just throw out there every night. Foreshadowing. Yeah, and then eventually, you're like, wow, I didn't realize that happened. Or on a show where somebody gets their head cut off and they laugh and then their head gets cut off later on. Yep. I think it's more like Inception where it's disjointed in time, you know what I mean? So, well, it all makes sense.

00:07:49.940 --> 00:07:50.600
sense at the end.

00:07:51.040 --> 00:07:51.740
Yeah, there you go.

00:07:51.930 --> 00:07:52.740
Even though it's already happened.

00:07:53.940 --> 00:07:54.360
Yeah, exactly.

00:07:55.080 --> 00:07:56.380
Shalililu, shalililu, shalililu.

00:07:57.000 --> 00:07:57.380
There you go.

00:07:57.980 --> 00:07:58.400
All right.

00:08:00.120 --> 00:08:01.960
So one other thing I wanted to talk about.

00:08:02.410 --> 00:08:05.180
On the script, I wrote down bands that remind you of other bands.

00:08:05.270 --> 00:08:10.060
And to anybody but me, that probably sounds like, oh, well, this band sounds like that band.

00:08:10.070 --> 00:08:11.340
And that's not where I'm going with this.

00:08:12.320 --> 00:08:16.880
I was driving in the car the other day, and on comes a song on the radio.

00:08:17.070 --> 00:08:18.380
And I'm like, oh, yeah, I know this song.

00:08:19.140 --> 00:08:20.200
It's Dr. Doctor.

00:08:21.080 --> 00:08:23.800
And I was like, sweet, Maiden's about to come on!

00:08:24.640 --> 00:08:26.280
And I was like, no, I'm in the car.

00:08:26.420 --> 00:08:27.560
Maiden's not about to come on.

00:08:28.080 --> 00:08:30.200
But I have that connection now.

00:08:30.400 --> 00:08:33.219
Whenever I hear Dr. Doctor, I think Iron Maiden's coming on.

00:08:33.900 --> 00:08:35.460
All right, so I guess that was really dumb.

00:08:35.620 --> 00:08:36.500
Nobody had any comments.

00:08:36.740 --> 00:08:38.800
Didn't even, like, crack a smile when I said that.

00:08:38.940 --> 00:08:39.780
So we're going to move on.

00:08:40.600 --> 00:08:43.340
I don't really like UFOs, so it did nothing for me.

00:08:44.580 --> 00:08:45.140
Nice term.

00:08:46.240 --> 00:08:48.380
But I know what you're saying now.

00:08:48.420 --> 00:09:16.940
So kind of like if you hear Run DMC, you think of Aerosmith? Kind of like that? No. There you go. Yeah, yeah, walk this way. Thank you, Jay. Okay, fine. Sort of like that. But I just thought it was funny because, you know, Iron Maiden uses UFO's Doctor Doctor as the song they play right before they go on stage. And so hearing Doctor Doctor got me excited because... Okay, I have one for you. You're like, Maiden's about to come on. Maiden's about to come on. None of you would know this. Maybe you might see this, George, at Valken.

00:09:16.960 --> 00:09:46.920
But when Fate's Warning goes on stage, they play Bat-Cat from Mugway before they start their show. As if anybody knows what that is. You've never heard of Mugway? I've heard of them. Don't beat them after midnight. This is your fucking gig, so I'm just responding. Thank you. Thank you. When King Diamond comes out, he plays The Wizard by Uriah Heap, so you always know he's about to come out when that's the last one played because he's a big... It's a little clue. He's his favorite singer. Right. I think there's one other thing that I added to my script that's probably not

00:09:46.960 --> 00:10:16.520
on everybody else's. And that was, I was listening to, uh, cause I kept giving you shit. Cause you kept updating the script like every five minutes the day before we just yesterday. When you put two things on the script, that kind of thing happens less than a while. But, uh, I was listening to iron maiden. Speaking of, that was sort of a transition thing there. And, uh, 22 Acacia Avenue was playing, you know, about Charlotte, the harlot. And where's this going? I was just kind of like bored. And I was like, Hey,

00:10:16.960 --> 00:10:45.200
I wonder if there's any 22 Acacia Avenues in the world. So I headed down to Southeast D.C. to take a look. So I pulled up Google Maps and typed in 22 Acacia Avenue. There is a 22 Acacia Avenue in Bethesda and in Sterling. Are you serious? I'm serious. Well, we gotta go. I know. I'm like, we gotta go knock on the door and be like, is Shirley's home? Get off my lawn, you fucking hippies! And I ain't no goddamn whore! Get out of here!

00:10:46.980 --> 00:11:16.540
in London? I didn't look that far. It only stays within borders, Jay. Yeah. Oh, fair enough. Let's go to London and get our picture taken in front of it. Yeah. We should. Bethesda, Sterling, London, England. Those are two places I want to go in this area. Bethesda and Sterling. Yeah. What are we drinking? George, why don't you do it for once? Yeah. Okay, here we go. We are drinking Lagunitas,

00:11:16.960 --> 00:11:46.780
Lagonitas with a Spanish lullaby. Hop Stupid, I'm guessing. Give that back to me. Hop Stupid Ale by Lagunitas. I can tell just by the little bit of the label I can see. Yes. That's local, of course. It's out by me here. And as you can tell by my singing Madonna, I am starting to feel these already. This is technically like my fourth beer. I had one before you got here. What did you have before we get here? It's from the top. Oh, it was it? Huh?

00:11:46.940 --> 00:12:16.600
What was it? A Ponzi? Yeah, my brewery. Atlas Ponzi. And then the one that you'll hear about later and then this one. The reason why we got this beer is why, John? It's in the book. The Bible. The Holy Book. The World Truth Guide to Extreme Beers. By our friend Adam. Cheers. Cheers. Cheers. Jay's drinking Pete's coffee. Yeah, it's early. West Coast represent blah, blah, blah.

00:12:18.279 --> 00:12:19.120
I have to say,

00:12:20.000 --> 00:12:22.460
Pete's Big Bang coffee is my favorite coffee ever.

00:12:23.380 --> 00:12:23.900
Pete's is good, dude.

00:12:24.400 --> 00:12:25.180
Or I should say my second.

00:12:25.360 --> 00:12:26.560
There's this stuff I used to get in Columbia.

00:12:27.220 --> 00:12:27.700
Real nice.

00:12:28.160 --> 00:12:29.380
I need to get together.

00:12:29.460 --> 00:12:30.380
That's a real nice.

00:12:30.920 --> 00:12:33.040
I'll have to direct you in some other coffee directions.

00:12:33.340 --> 00:12:33.560
All right.

00:12:34.100 --> 00:12:35.140
I'm a coffee snob, so.

00:12:35.880 --> 00:12:36.300
Coffee heads.

00:12:37.240 --> 00:12:37.380
Yeah.

00:12:38.899 --> 00:12:40.420
That's John's special thing.

00:12:40.640 --> 00:12:41.700
It's got a rich...

00:12:41.720 --> 00:12:43.740
John, you got two readers this month.

00:12:45.000 --> 00:12:46.780
It's got a rich, roasty feel.

00:12:47.500 --> 00:13:06.140
Wait a minute. We said that earlier. It's coffee-flavored coffee. You can review the Tombs coffee. Savage Gold. Savage Gold, yeah. I had some in the freezer upstairs. Probably too strong for me. I'm a mild drinker, but nonetheless, I'll try it. All right. Why don't we move on to the news?

00:13:19.500 --> 00:13:46.780
Unfortunately, we have a late addition to the news. We just found out last night that Adrenaline Mob were in a car accident, rather a bus. A truck, a semi-fucking truck, ran into their RV that was on the side of the road with a flat tire. Six people were critically injured, I believe, and one person died. I'm sure you've probably already heard this, but it was Dave Z, the bass player.

00:13:46.840 --> 00:14:16.020
for Adrenaline Mob. And that really fucking put a damper on my weekend. Yeah, I'm not even a fan of the band. I mean, I like Russell Allen from Symphony X, but regardless of that, it's a shitty story all the way around. Any person. I mean, even if it was just some random average person that I read about this, I'd be sad. Well, there's some last minute updates here, George, and it says that Russell Allen, the singer, was seriously injured. God damn.

00:14:16.620 --> 00:14:44.920
I believe three of the six are seriously injured, aren't they? Yeah. I think he's the only other band member that got really bad. Fuck. Yeah. Sorry. I hope somebody fucking kicked the ass of that fucking truck driver. Who knows? I mean, the details are kind of sketchy about why this happened, which I guess at some point. Black ice? Or fellas. In Florida? Well, if you've ever driven down in Florida, you know, it can be a little rough down there in places.

00:14:46.620 --> 00:15:16.580
It's a shitty story all the way around. I guess Dave Z, which I don't know much about the band, but other than Russell Allen, he's played with a ton of people. Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Chris Caffrey. Yeah, he's gotten around. He's a known entity. I think he's a musician's type guy. Well respected. People loved him. It's just a shitty story. It's terrible. So our condolences to Dave's family, friends, and of course the other members of the band. And a speedy recovery to the rest of the band.

00:15:16.640 --> 00:15:46.560
Injured. Yes. Indeed. All right. So moving on. Alice Cooper is getting ready to reduce, reduce, release. He's going to reduce a reduction. It's a shallot reduction and beer. We're going to just reduce this down for five minutes. Yeah. He's getting ready to release a new album. I think it's called Paranormal. I didn't actually write that down. I wrote down some other stuff. My point being, is there anybody in music or at least in metal,

00:15:46.640 --> 00:16:15.360
that has reinvented themselves so many times as Alice Cooper. In music or metal? I'm going to say in metal. Because, you know, the first two Alice Cooper albums were pretty hippy-dippy. And then you had Love It to Death, and he was kind of like, all of a sudden he's a rock star. And, you know, that held out for a while. But then, you know, then he went, Welcome to My Nightmare, and I'm all, woo, you know. I was going to say, in music, I would say, well, David Bowie has him on that. I was going to say David Bowie, too.

00:16:17.080 --> 00:16:44.680
Which is all the albums he had. But that's just changing your style. I think in terms of Alice Cooper, it's a bid to stay relevant. Okay? Well, Bowie wasn't just style, it was also character, too. Yes. But I think Alice Cooper would probably be the one in hard rock and metal. And then in the 80s, you know, he kind of dipped off at the beginning of the 80s, and then he came back with Constrictor, which was a little more metal. And then after that... And that's kind of where... Go ahead.

00:16:46.620 --> 00:17:16.600
much more metal. Yeah. And but then he was like, boom, I'm hair metal now with trash, you know, and and he was very popular with that album. And I love that album, actually. And is that the one with your poison on it? Yeah, poison. Yeah. And and then Hey Stupid was the one after that. And those both kind of big albums for him. And then he sort of drifted off again into, you know, golf, golf and mediocrity. Well, I think he was. He did have his restaurant in

00:17:16.640 --> 00:17:46.600
Phoenix and all that stuff. Yeah. Yeah. Cooper's Town. Yeah. And now he's. Which is a great name by the way for a restaurant because it's a baseball themed restaurant but Alice Cooper owns it and it's called Cooper's Town. I still think that's a brilliant name. That is pretty awesome. And now you know I haven't listened much to what he's done in the last decade or so but I heard these two new songs off this new album and I like both of them. They harken back to the billion dollar babies area type thing to me with a little bit more modern punch on it. Like with a little bit more modern

00:17:47.500 --> 00:18:16.600
Yeah, well, like more medley guitars. It's like, it's definitely a rock song, but it's well-written. A paranormal and paranoic personality, the two songs I'm talking about. And they're both pretty catchy. They're not super heavy. Well, he's never been that heavy. He's never been that heavy, except for like Razor Fist and Yell. Yeah, that's about it. But it's good, and I like it. Now I'm like, oh, I've got to make sure I see him at Valken, because he's going to play this. Oh, he's awesome. I've seen him three or four times. Oh, yeah, so have I. He's always... Okay, so I...

00:18:16.640 --> 00:18:46.140
I haven't paid attention much, but who is anyone? There was talk about the original band, everyone that was alive, still getting back together. I haven't heard anything about that. One of the other guys just died in the last six months. Glenn, what's his name? He's been doing a tour with him. I thought that was a new thing. There was a promo picture that just came out or something like that of them together. I don't know. I thought it sounded like that. No, no. And him saying things like, this sounds best with these guys or something. I can't remember what it was, but yeah, there's something good for you to put together. Okay.

00:18:46.620 --> 00:19:16.600
Hey, I have a recommendation real quick, which is there's a really good movie, a documentary called Super Mensch, and it's about his manager. And he managed a lot, a lot, a lot of people. He's this big, famous, hugely rich manager. But he retired a while ago. Peter something. I can't remember his name. No, no, no, no. But his name's the movie's called Super Mensch. I can't remember his name. But long story short, he retired a long time ago, but he still is Alice Cooper's manager because

00:19:16.640 --> 00:19:46.340
Because Alice Cooper won't have anybody else. So this guy can't retire because Alice expects him to work for him. It's a really good movie, though. This guy had such an interesting life. Anyway. Yeah. Supermensch. There's also Super Duper Alice Cooper. Which I heard wasn't that good. It was okay. It was all right. I didn't like the style of, you know, it was just like you, he was talking over old footage instead of like actual interviews. But it's still kind of interesting. So,

00:19:46.640 --> 00:20:16.600
I was really excited about this next item. Enslaved have completed mixing and mastering of a new album. We don't have a title or a release date yet, but hopefully that's going to be this year because, yeah. I think it'll be this year. I think that might make a list or two. Yeah, well, the last one made mine and they just, they don't fuck up a lot. I'm always down for an Enslaved album, so, yeah. I would put them in the same category as the band we'll talk about later, which is goat whore. And what I mean is, you can just

00:20:18.440 --> 00:20:46.600
They're solid every album. Yeah, solid every album. And they've done, not an about-face, but they've definitely changed from their early Viking metal days considerably. They're still black metal, but it's a progressive black metal. Iron Maiden has revealed that they're releasing a new Belgian-style beer called Hallowed. Hallowed. So, I assume we're going to have to...

00:20:46.640 --> 00:21:16.100
We're going to try that at some point. I don't know if it's out yet. I had a really, really bad thought about this when I read that. I was like, of all beer names to choose, I hope this is their own recipe. They stole the recipe from some other band from the 70s. So if you don't know, Iron Maiden is being sued right now by... Well, again, second time. Yeah, we talked about this on the last one. Steve Harris, what the fuck? Yeah, so I'll be interested.

00:21:16.620 --> 00:21:46.560
to see what happens with this beer because it's Robinson's Brewery who's doing it again, which they do all the Iron Maiden beers. And Robinson's pretty much only does obviously English beers with this strange Ringwood yeast. Wingwood. Yeah, so this is the first time that they announced in the article that they're bringing in the first time they're using a Belgian strain ever. Yeah, they're venturing here. Yeah, so I have a feeling that,

00:21:46.640 --> 00:22:16.240
If you've been around as long as Robinson's, whether you're using English yeast or whatever yeast, you're going to know what you're doing. You're professional brewers. You know what you're doing. But you're still bringing in a different yeast drain, so weird things can happen. Might have legs. Yeah. You'll get that joke later when you listen to the end of the podcast. So I'm curious to see how they do bringing a completely new yeast drain. As a brewer,

00:22:16.740 --> 00:22:46.300
Usually it's not that big of a deal. For them it is. Yeah, so they've never really had this yeast strain ever in their brewery. Yeah, they're quintessential English, so they're going a different direction now. I hear you say that, and I'm thinking about yeast strain Malpstein. Yeast strain Malpstein. Yeast strain Malpstein. In that story, there was one interesting point, though, that kind of jumped out at me, which was that of the other stuff, the stuff that's already out,

00:22:46.360 --> 00:23:16.320
they have already sold 15 million pints of it. So they're selling some beer. Yeah. And I can guarantee you that if Iron Maiden's name was not on it, they would probably have sold 15,000 pints. Yeah. At best. And that was just the people who came in on Saturday night over the course of two years. Yeah. And it's not, you know, I don't think any of us has been super wowed by those. Well, that's interesting because we were talking about possibly getting an Ankasi beer today called Made in the

00:23:16.340 --> 00:23:17.120
Made in Shade.

00:23:17.670 --> 00:23:19.060
Yeah, you kind of do that.

00:23:19.340 --> 00:23:19.900
We went out of time.

00:23:20.020 --> 00:23:20.480
We went out of time.

00:23:20.870 --> 00:23:24.240
But it's definitely the Made in Font on the label.

00:23:24.410 --> 00:23:24.940
It used to be.

00:23:26.500 --> 00:23:27.120
They got sued.

00:23:28.120 --> 00:23:29.460
So you know why they got sued?

00:23:29.740 --> 00:23:30.560
Because they didn't get approval?

00:23:31.060 --> 00:23:34.420
Well, they got sued when Trooper showed up in the United States.

00:23:34.860 --> 00:23:35.400
Oh, there you go.

00:23:36.360 --> 00:23:38.880
And that's when Nkasi had to move.

00:23:39.660 --> 00:23:40.940
It's still the tribute beer.

00:23:41.160 --> 00:23:41.340
I know.

00:23:41.590 --> 00:23:42.200
I just showed you.

00:23:42.220 --> 00:24:11.620
They had to change it. The font used to be the Iron Maiden font on Made in the Shade, which is like an easy drinking sort of summer IPA. So it's kind of like the Slayer Bear now that they have, that they had to just tweak it enough. Yeah. Well, yeah. So the font is completely different. It's actually all flowery and curvy and has absolutely no recollection to Iron Maiden anymore. I don't know if I want it now. Hey, George, are you nodding off over there? I'm just joking. Oh?

00:24:13.040 --> 00:24:42.060
I was just trying to get away from the mic so I'm not breathing on it. Oh, okay, fair enough. One more beer. One more beer. I tell you, I'm feeling pretty. I better eat something soon. You can do it. You can do it. I'm feeling it. All right, we have one more news item. And then George will get some food. Yeah. Wolves in the Throne Room are going to be releasing a new album, Thrice Woven, in September. And I am looking forward to that. Are you down with this after their last couple of releases? Say that again slowly.

00:24:42.220 --> 00:25:10.640
for the drunk guy? Are you down with this? Down with the sickness. Given their last couple of releases? Oh, you mean the non-metal album they did? Of releases? Yeah, well, I assume this is going to be back to metal. Yeah, I think so, too. I didn't actually mind their Ambien album. No, no, it's cool. It's just different. It was a sister. It was a companion to the other album before that. Kind of like that Tribes of Neuron album. Exactly. Same thing. Nobody has a problem with neurosis. Yeah.

00:25:12.200 --> 00:25:42.140
You'd have like you'd be you get your ass beat. Yeah. All right. We're going to do a few new releases. First one. And I don't know if I'm going to pronounce this right. Trevor from Ashton Horde. Actually, you said this once and I was like, who? So my guess is Karak Angren. Yeah, that's what I would have gotten. And there.

00:25:42.220 --> 00:25:50.440
their new album dance and laugh amongst the rotten uh it's cool stuff it's uh it's like a black

00:25:50.590 --> 00:25:57.380
metal album uh but it's a little avant symphonic not quite i really don't know what to call it it's just

00:25:58.480 --> 00:26:03.840
i didn't make enough notes uh atmospherically it's very king diamond in that it's they tend to do

00:26:03.910 --> 00:26:09.840
these horror stories from start to finish on their yeah some kind of charlie or maybe it's a girl i i haven't read the lyrics

00:26:11.240 --> 00:26:39.820
I like I was more excited about it when I first started it it doesn't have enough variance in it it does a lot of this stoppy starty you know that kind of thing I can't explain it but but it's cool it's cool I mean I I like their their whole vibe you know yeah they're definitely cool doing something a little different there's a little different yeah next up we've got the new death fortress triumph of the undying and if you like death metal this might be

00:26:39.860 --> 00:27:08.560
for you. I thought this was more black metal. You think so? Yeah. In fact, I was kind of surprised because New Jersey is sort of known for more death metal and thrash metal. You don't hear a lot of black metal coming out of the Jersey area. I guess somewhere northern in the United States where it's all cold and rainy and depressing and snowy. I guess we're going to have to take your chocolate and stick it in my peanut butter and call it black death. I'm sorry. Say that again. Stick your chocolate in my peanut butter.

00:27:13.120 --> 00:27:15.460
I'm old.

00:27:39.860 --> 00:28:09.600
We have the new Decapitated Anti-Cult, which I have to admit I have not listened to much because we got a promo for this. And I don't know if it's the promo was jacked up or if they really did this. Did they really go like power metal? Oh, there's a weird song in the middle of it. It's like second or third song. It's like power metal. It's got to be some mistake. It has to be some sort. I listened to that too. And I was like, what the fuck is this?

00:28:09.840 --> 00:28:10.140
I was like,

00:28:10.260 --> 00:28:11.260
and so I just stopped listening.

00:28:11.380 --> 00:28:11.720
Cause I was like,

00:28:11.780 --> 00:28:12.340
this can't be right.

00:28:12.380 --> 00:28:15.940
I heard them on a liquid melody of the day and I was like,

00:28:16.160 --> 00:28:17.060
it didn't sound like that at all.

00:28:17.380 --> 00:28:17.460
Uh,

00:28:17.460 --> 00:28:17.720
any power.

00:28:17.980 --> 00:28:18.960
So there's no,

00:28:19.060 --> 00:28:20.220
I'm saying that's what I'm saying.

00:28:20.560 --> 00:28:20.880
So,

00:28:21.060 --> 00:28:21.140
uh,

00:28:21.540 --> 00:28:25.420
I'm going to listen to the actual release and see if maybe the,

00:28:25.560 --> 00:28:26.360
maybe we got like a,

00:28:26.740 --> 00:28:28.299
a funky promo because I,

00:28:29.300 --> 00:28:29.400
yeah,

00:28:30.380 --> 00:28:30.960
that was just weird.

00:28:30.980 --> 00:28:31.540
So I stopped listening.

00:28:31.620 --> 00:28:32.240
Have you listened to it,

00:28:32.320 --> 00:28:32.360
Jay?

00:28:33.880 --> 00:28:34.200
Sorry,

00:28:34.200 --> 00:28:34.640
I have not.

00:28:35.500 --> 00:28:36.640
I have to admit my,

00:28:36.740 --> 00:28:37.420
at first listen,

00:28:37.660 --> 00:28:38.360
aside from the,

00:28:38.580 --> 00:29:06.820
I think is a mistake power metal song. It's not even a good power metal song. It's pretty terrible. I don't know whose it is. It's not good. It just seemed very... Generic? Yeah. It felt very corporate and generic when I first listened to it. I felt this way. I think earlier Decapitated was much better than later Decapitated.

00:29:09.200 --> 00:29:14.220
I believe that's what's called for my favorite what was the last one called I forget um

00:29:15.960 --> 00:29:23.980
blood mantra or something yeah yeah yeah so that one I was like ah carnival was forever when that came out that was

00:29:24.040 --> 00:29:38.560
like the new lineup after the accident and I loved that album and now I'm like I don't know we saw them at cafe 611 a while back and I just wasn't all that impressed it just seems almost too polished too

00:29:38.560 --> 00:30:08.540
I don't know. Corporate's not the right word. No, I think it is actually. Yeah, I don't know. They soften a little bit around the edges. But I haven't listened to it that much. But that was my first impression. And I hope I'm wrong. Yeah, I'm going to revisit that. And I really hope that Power Metal song in the middle of the... What did we get? The... Promo? Promo, yeah. Sorry, couldn't think of the word. All right. Next up is...

00:30:08.580 --> 00:30:38.520
Will is empty, so I think that's a hint. Next up is the new Elder album, Reflections of a Floating World. Now, I know a lot of people really think a lot of this band. I'm thinking of one person in particular who you'll hear about later. But it's not bad, but they have never blown my skirt up. Okay, so here's the thing. I thought the last one was actually pretty good. I kind of couldn't make it through this.

00:30:38.560 --> 00:31:07.480
I bought it right away. Maybe we had the promo. I don't know. But an angry metal guy went crazy for it. And I was just like, okay, maybe I better go. I've seen a lot of people that are like really into it. And I'm like, it's not a bad album, but it doesn't grab me. It's good, but it's kind of meandering. And it just doesn't grab me. I listened a few times. I liked it, but I can't see myself going back to it. Yeah. It's not a shot at them because I thought it was solid. It was well played.

00:31:07.620 --> 00:31:37.420
It just doesn't pull you in. I didn't listen to it yet. It's too sprawling, too. That's the other thing. They tend to... They're kind of the metal jam band at the moment where they tend to get to these big drawn-out musical sections. 12 long-minute songs. Kind of. And some of them are just like, okay, now I'm going to play a really long AOR rock guitar solo here. That can work, but it can also not work. Anyway, I wasn't blown away by it. And the production is much worse than the last record. I don't know.

00:31:37.440 --> 00:32:07.100
I don't know if their budget went down or what. All right. Next one is one I know Jay likes. Arab Altor or E-Reb. I don't know how you say that. But I say Arab Altor and their new album Ulfen. I haven't. Do we have the promo or something? Because I haven't heard of it yet. And I have a buddy who's got it. I'm pretty sure the promo's in there. Let me look. I just don't know Van Camp. It's straight up folk music. It is. Oh, seriously? I don't think so.

00:32:07.440 --> 00:32:36.940
I haven't gotten deep into it. I've listened to about half of it. Let's be honest, George. You haven't gotten deep into anything in a long time. I haven't had that much to drink at. Meanwhile, post Iron Maiden show. Holy cow. Oh, man. I just noticed that the new Venom Incorporated is in the box. Yeah, sorry. I meant to tell you that. Oh, yeah. Thanks, George. Is it in there? Is the Aero Beltor? No. Really? Okay. Sorry about that. I'm fixing it. That's okay.

00:32:37.980 --> 00:33:07.400
Ain't no thing. But I liked what I heard. So I want to go back and they're playing Vakken, but unfortunately, I think they're on the same time as Emperor. So that ain't happening. I bet even they're disappointed. They're like, you know what? Instead of playing, let's go see Emperor. Exactly. So. Well, as is known, I did and liked the last one very much. So I'm keen to hear this. Yeah, it sounded pretty good. Next up, we have a band called Fellwarden.

00:33:08.040 --> 00:33:37.320
and the album Oath Bearer. And this is a side project for the main guy from the band, Fenn. And I checked this out on Bandcamp, and I was like, this is not bad. And so I bought it, and I like it. Yeah, I did too. I bought it also. It's an early period atmospheric black metal. Yeah, without the terrible production. No, it's got good production, but it's got the keyboard sound.

00:33:37.440 --> 00:34:06.820
which is a little bit different nowadays with some bands than early on. A little more folksier, but a little more black metal-ish though too in some spots. Yeah. I thought it's good. I like it. Yeah, me too. So check that out. It's on Band Gear. Big year for the guys from Fenn, huh? Yeah. He's like, hey, I'm going to put out another F-related band. Yeah. And they'll be right next to each other in everyone's catalog when they look online. Exactly. Does Jay want to talk about this one?

00:34:07.460 --> 00:34:36.240
Yeah, this next one is not going to be on anybody's lists, unfortunately. But it's a pretty okay album, so you probably ought to check it out. Only if you want to, because it's not going to be on anybody's lists. Wink, wink. Go ahead, George. I was going to say, this is the new goat whore, Vengeful Ascension. Go, Jay. Well, just that I put on the Facebook page, because I had the good fortune to see these guys.

00:34:36.379 --> 00:34:37.460
a couple weeks ago.

00:34:38.379 --> 00:34:40.139
And my line on the Facebook page was,

00:34:40.379 --> 00:34:43.379
if you don't like Goat Whore, you're no friend of ours.

00:34:44.879 --> 00:34:46.960
These guys just put out one solid record after another.

00:34:48.100 --> 00:34:50.080
Absolutely, spoiler alert, it's on my list.

00:34:51.140 --> 00:34:54.139
It's probably their most varied record of the last four records.

00:34:54.639 --> 00:34:57.300
I'm kind of keen to hear what Will thinks of it,

00:34:57.300 --> 00:34:58.640
because I think he's the other big...

00:34:58.800 --> 00:35:00.040
I know everybody likes this,

00:35:00.040 --> 00:35:03.220
but I think he's the other real big Goat Whore guy on the pod.

00:35:03.220 --> 00:35:04.120
I predict this is the...

00:35:04.160 --> 00:35:04.980
She's calling me a big whore.

00:35:05.580 --> 00:35:35.540
He called you a goat whore. I predict this is the album, the number one combined album for the pod. Probably so. And it is great. It's really good. These guys just kind of don't make mistakes. There's a lot of good stuff on here. And Ben is a super cool dude. He's such a nice guy. I think we've all met him now. No, John maybe not. I haven't met him. Let's tell a little bit of the back story about

00:35:36.860 --> 00:35:41.860
when this almost did not make anyone's list and how somebody was browbeaten.

00:35:43.160 --> 00:35:44.580
Here comes the George splashing.

00:35:45.000 --> 00:35:46.220
And then there was a picture taken.

00:35:46.580 --> 00:35:47.800
And so, Jay, go.

00:35:48.920 --> 00:35:53.140
Yes, well, just that with George, we were choosing a sort of cutoff point.

00:35:53.660 --> 00:35:58.800
Because we're doing, as if it's not obvious to you yet, we're doing our half the year lists in this episode.

00:36:00.080 --> 00:36:07.180
George sort of vaguely declared the goat whore record ineligible because it had not reached a certain release date.

00:36:07.550 --> 00:36:13.260
Actually, let's back it up. I hate to cut you off. I'm sorry, Jay. George had a cutoff date.

00:36:13.700 --> 00:36:15.340
Of June 15th.

00:36:15.840 --> 00:36:21.680
I realized sitting there that both you and Will are always talking about goat whore.

00:36:22.190 --> 00:36:27.740
And I went to George and said, you sure you want to do that? I said, it's early in the month and goat whore is coming out around that time.

00:36:28.620 --> 00:36:58.180
And they were all hanging out.

00:36:58.640 --> 00:37:28.360
I've made them and I managed to get a photo of almost every one of them giving George the finger. Yeah. He told them, yeah, George said you're not eligible for the mid-year because of this. And so he took pictures with all of them giving me the finger. And I loved it because I told him to do that. I was like, that's cool. But I did, in fact, technically. You're reluctant. To be fair to myself and to be technical. No, you're wrong. I already changed it to the end of June before you went to this show. But it was still funny. Yeah, because we made you change it.

00:37:28.620 --> 00:37:58.580
Well, yes. I thought... Somehow he thought... I had previously done the math... Well, there's 12 months in a year, and five and a half months through the year is halfway through the year. April 30th is a cutoff for mid-year. Did I mention that math is not my strong suit? Clearly. Yeah, Jay. I think previously it was a cutoff because it was just when we were able to record. And so in my brain, that stuck as that's when our cutoff should be. I think because last year, when you made the cutoff,

00:37:58.620 --> 00:38:28.600
Last year, we had done it, I think, around that time. That's what it was. And so I was just like, oh, yeah, well, that's the cutoff. And we were doing a giant Facebook messenger between all of us. And there was this long pause while we're like, everyone's just chiming in like, George is doing the math. He can't figure the math out. We're all like chiming in like, no, 12 divided by 6. You know, 12 divided by 2 is 6. Minus 2.5 plus 3. Yeah, but not all months have the same amount of

00:38:28.700 --> 00:38:58.540
days. That's what he was trying to justify with. Well, February is 28. Do you guys remember how to tell if there's 31 days or not when you're a kid you use your knuckles? Have you ever done that? No. Apparently if you count on your knuckles, every knuckle is a 31 and every in-between knuckles a non-31. Yeah, I can't remember that. I was like, okay, George, start with your knuckles. January, February. Oh, I'm going to use that. Actually, it works. It really does. Because August then, when you come back, it works. George only looks at his knuckles when they're shuffled.

00:38:59.680 --> 00:39:26.480
On the date this gets posted, I will post on the Facebook page the pictures of Ben and Sammy giving George the finger. But I'll wait until the pod is ready. Screw me! Nothing has changed. All right, we have one more new release, and that is The Mighty Tombs and The Grand Annihilation. Or as you put on the script, The Friend Annihilation.

00:39:29.019 --> 00:39:58.600
Sorry about that. Yeah, we had Mike on here a while ago, and we might try and get him on again. Depends on what our schedules are looking like. We got a lot of people we want to get on. But you were, George, you were a little undecided about this one, so I'm kind of wondering when you're at now, because I have been listening to it. It's great. The more I listen to it, it's great. You know, there's some changes. He started introducing some semi-clean vocals. They're not all like, wah, wah, wah, wah, wah, wah, wah, wah, wah, wah, wah, wah, wah,

00:39:58.640 --> 00:40:26.300
and it's a nice contrast with the heavier vocals. Right now, Mike can do no wrong. He's amazing. I like this album more than the previous one. The EP? No, Savage Gold. I speculate the EP was just to get out of a label because they were on Relapse. Now they're on Metal Blade.

00:40:28.620 --> 00:40:58.080
Savage Gold, as far as I'm concerned, was awesome. It was my number two that year. And then the EP kind of sucked. Yeah, it was just okay. And that was produced by somebody else. Eric Rutan produced Savage Gold, and he produced The Grand Annihilation. Both of those sound amazing. Some other person did the EP. Again, I think it's just a throwaway. Eric's got some pedigree, so. Yeah, just a little. Old Tampa, Florida death metal guy. Is that? Yeah. Yeah, okay.

00:40:58.500 --> 00:41:18.100
More Sound Studios, right? I think so. Yeah. Is he really there now? No. It's not his old game. I thought he has his, I don't know. I thought he was from down that way, wasn't it? He is from, I think it's Scott something. Probably, yeah. That's a whole other world down there. Yeah. Yeah. All right, moving on to what we're listening to.

00:41:31.780 --> 00:41:33.740
What a relationship

00:41:37.000 --> 00:41:39.140
What a relationship

00:41:42.180 --> 00:41:46.480
As we've mentioned in previous episodes, we're sort of combining all of our albums.

00:41:46.710 --> 00:41:52.880
What we're listening to, what we've purchased, and vinyl purchases, anything else, is all into one big list now.

00:41:53.200 --> 00:41:56.180
So, we're going to start with Jay.

00:41:57.600 --> 00:42:27.500
Brace Yourself. It's been a while since we talked, boys, so I bought a lot of records, and I'm going to say them, and that'll just be my whole part of this segment. So I got the Ancients vinyl for Voice of the Void. These are all vinyl. Woad. Oh, no, I don't have that one. It didn't show up yet. Nevermore, This Godless Endeavor was a holy grail for me. Just pick that up. Yes. Inslave, Below the Lights. Yes. Mutoid Man, War Moans, which I got at the Mutoid Man show, got signed by the guys. Highlight of my year thus far, the Celtic Frost.

00:42:27.600 --> 00:42:57.540
Reissues, I got all four of those, Nemesis, Tomegatheria, Morbid Tales, Into the Pandemonium. They're beautiful. I got Behemoth, Live at the BBC, which you can only order from the website. Samoth Race, Reverence to Stone, Creator, Terrible Certainty, Endless Pain, and Pleasure to Kill Reissues. I got Goth, Luciferian Goth Ritual. Another of my favorite I couldn't find for a long time, Exodus Shovelhead Kill Machine.

00:42:58.700 --> 00:43:26.700
The New Royal Thunder album I got, Skeletal Remains, Enslaved, Alive at Roadburn, that was a record store day thing, Thin Lizzy Jailbreak, Y&T Earthshaker, Trap Them, Blissfucker, and Death, Vivis Davidium. I bought a lot of vinyl. And that's it. I'm listing all that stuff and all of our list stuff, and so that could be revealed as we talk about our lists. But yeah, it's just been too long since we talked, but my record collection got a lot bigger.

00:43:26.980 --> 00:43:27.720
Yeah, me too.

00:43:29.560 --> 00:43:32.560
So I will hand it off to the next person.

00:43:33.640 --> 00:43:36.220
By the way, Jay, you get total props for mentioning Y&T.

00:43:36.780 --> 00:43:38.460
You've lived in the Bay Area long enough now.

00:43:41.660 --> 00:43:45.080
All right, so for me, let's see.

00:43:45.440 --> 00:43:48.820
I got the first three Celtic Frost reissues, but on CD.

00:43:48.960 --> 00:43:49.800
I did not get the vinyl.

00:43:50.980 --> 00:43:54.180
I couldn't go with the fourth, which was the Nemesis one.

00:43:54.180 --> 00:43:54.540
Is that it?

00:43:55.220 --> 00:43:56.340
Yeah, and you can live without it.

00:43:56.360 --> 00:44:26.300
There's no question about that. Yeah, I wasn't busted up about it. So I got not too much vinyl. I got this band I mentioned long back a time ago. I think the last time we did it, 13th Sun Stardust. They're a prog metal band from Romania. I got the vinyl from that finally. I got a huge release deal for Anathema's new one, The Optimist, which was like a two-CD DVD Blu-ray thing. Love that stuff. Love it when they package them. Yeah, and the price wasn't bad on it either.

00:44:26.360 --> 00:44:56.260
So I went for it. I'm not as big on Anathema's last few albums. It's not that they're not good. They're good. I'm just I'm ready for them to make a little bit of a change. And they do a little bit of that on this album. Got the Chemist's Spirit Adrift, Front with Peril, Seven Inch Split. Finally got that. I got these and that was the vinyl. So and the rest here now are either just albums I'm listening to. Yeah, these are all albums I'm listening to. So the first one.

00:44:56.360 --> 00:45:26.340
These are all songs that have been released, but they're albums that are coming out soon. So this is a band out in your area. This band called, correct me if I'm saying it right, Cormorant is the name, I think. That's the pronunciation of the bird, so probably, yeah. Yeah, and so they're kind of a, I don't know what, Deathy, Doom-y, I don't even know, Black Metal, actually more Black Metal band. And the album that's coming out is Dysphoria. There's two songs they have online right now, Preserved in Ash and The Devourer. The Preserved in Ash song has a very mild

00:45:28.520 --> 00:45:56.340
I actually listen I've actually heard this too and it's good I like it yeah it's it's pretty cool I like it so it's it's worth listening to another single song again here is from this band called Spotlights which I think I mentioned them last year they're kind of a doom gaze band they have a new album coming out called seismic and the song they have online learning or learn to breathe which I actually like a lot it's I dig them it's it's a heavier pace for them which is kind of cool the new song from Paradise Lost

00:45:56.360 --> 00:46:24.320
It's the longest winter, which is very cool. I know there's a lot of... I don't want to use this expression because I don't want to bash fans for not liking it. Some butthurt fans, oh, it's not like Draconian Times 100%. Though it is kind of. But it is still kind of. It's got a little bit of Peter Steele in there. It's like typo negative meets gothic meets Draconian Times, which is cool. And for any of you fans who like harsh metal, if you're getting the harsh vocals from Paradise Lost, that means that there's a new Bloodbath album coming out probably.

00:46:26.180 --> 00:46:28.360
So, um, which by the way,

00:46:28.500 --> 00:46:56.060
apparently bloodbath is coming to Maryland death fest next year. Yes, they are. Who cares? Okay. Sorry. What is wrong with you? All right. I went to MDF this year. Thank you. I know. Well, why would you say who cares? Do you not like bloodbath? Uh, they're all right. Uh, but I probably am not going to go. Well, it depends who's playing on the same day as blood incantation. Cause I do want to see them. That would be cool. I actually think I'm going to try and go to, let's just see.

00:46:56.160 --> 00:47:25.580
It's only 25 bands. I know. Famous last words. I'm like, I'm not going. But then when it comes up, I'll be like, oh, I want to go. All right. I got two more here. Something that Will and I listened to on the way up, but I got it from my buddy, TR. He told me about this band, which I'd never heard of before, and you guys may have. A band called Horse Burner. Nope. Dead Seeds, Barren Soil. It's kind of a stoner, sludgy band. He kind of harkened them to the heavier version of Baroness in the early days. It's pretty cool.

00:47:26.140 --> 00:47:56.060
Will was telling me he thought he had it in his car so we listened to it. And then the last one I've been listening to recently is a band called X-I-E-X-E-Y-E. And if you don't know who these guys are, you may or may not like them, it is a, how do you describe this? It's like jazz metal, fusion metal, and they're all jazz guys for the most part I think, except for the drummer who's been in some metal bands. But there is no bass player.

00:47:56.160 --> 00:48:25.000
is a saxophone bass player. It's instrumental, and it's very fusion-y, and it's very heavy. It's on relapse, but it's very cool. If you're looking for something a little different, give that a spin. And then, like Jay said, everything else, or maybe Will said this, everything else I listen to is on my list, so you'll get the rest of that later. That's it for me. Will? It's kind of a short list. I'm still listening to a lot of Crip Sermon. God, I keep listening to that album because I love it.

00:48:27.080 --> 00:48:56.120
A band I wasn't too familiar with, I think around the North Carolina, Irata. They have an album called Sweet Loras. And they will be playing at Atlas Brew Works on 22nd of October. Which leads me into that, man, we've been having a lot of metal concerts at Atlas. It's kind of ridiculous. You really have. My job as director of heavy metal operations there has really become pretty taxing. We have a whole

00:48:58.160 --> 00:49:25.300
gamut of shows coming up over the next several months. The one that I'm probably most excited about is Utkiaru. Utkiaru! Utkiaru! We're actually sponsoring their tour. Atlas is sponsoring the tour. And we'll be playing on Atlas when they come to DC on the 15th of August. And we'll be playing with Dagger Moon and Helgamite, two other local bands that I really love. So anyway, Yurada.

00:49:27.380 --> 00:49:56.120
I bought the new bison BC you are not the ocean you are the patient a band somebody it was either Rick or Greg Twitter followers pretty sure they're listeners Hell Slave divination or divination or divination divination yeah divination I don't know if it's supposed to be like divided nation like some sort of like political thing I

00:49:56.140 --> 00:50:26.120
I got the I can't believe I didn't have this I didn't have the suffocation pierce from within so I went out picked up that I also could not believe I didn't have cryptopsy none so vile just completely utter failure on my part not to have those two albums and then my friends and the local band serpents of secrecy came out with a two song EP called uncoiled and then the the bass player reverend Jim Forrester is having some medical

00:50:26.140 --> 00:50:56.080
So there's a whole bunch of money being raised for Jim's cause. He's also in Foghau, which is a Baltimore-based sort of Maryland, D.C., called the DMV, Delaware, D.C., Maryland, Virginia, DMV. So anyway, they're from the area. He's having some medical issues. So we had a benefit concert for him at Atlas. And we had King Giant and Borracho play that.

00:50:56.140 --> 00:51:26.120
show just just to rate and tone and just to raise some money for him so all the all the band when Atlas has a show they give all the money to the bands at least takes a zero cut whatsoever from any of the bands and then with the bands turn around it is any money that they would have gotten from all the door money they gave to Jim and his wife Tina for medical bills so it's good night out of the time yeah yeah that's nice that's that's a very nice

00:51:27.220 --> 00:51:28.340
Statement to make, so to speak.

00:51:28.600 --> 00:51:28.680
Yeah.

00:51:29.300 --> 00:51:30.480
And how is this guy doing?

00:51:30.600 --> 00:51:31.140
Is he doing a little better?

00:51:31.700 --> 00:51:31.840
Yeah.

00:51:31.940 --> 00:51:33.420
He's got two different medical issues.

00:51:33.680 --> 00:51:35.660
One with his liver and one with blood clots and stuff.

00:51:35.780 --> 00:51:38.880
So he actually played Maryland Doomfest.

00:51:39.600 --> 00:51:42.100
He literally got out of the hospital and the next day he played.

00:51:43.320 --> 00:51:44.460
So it's kind of off and on.

00:51:44.900 --> 00:51:46.920
He's got a couple different medical things, but he's a great guy.

00:51:47.280 --> 00:51:48.100
I've met him a couple times.

00:51:48.660 --> 00:51:51.980
I can't say that I'm friends or anything with him, but I've met him.

00:51:53.080 --> 00:52:23.060
But the whole DMV community, metal community, is coming around. It was cool. I knew most of the people there. Yeah, so my good friend Steve Jones is the brewer up at Oliver Ailes in Baltimore, who is a phenomenal brewery. Total metalhead. He was in one of the newest issues of... Yeah, Decimal Magazine, the Brutal Truth column. It was the issue that they post-viewed, I guess, or did the post-mortem on...

00:52:23.080 --> 00:52:52.500
The Metal and Beer Festival is probably the May or June issue. But Steve was featured in there and he did a benefit show at his brewery for the Reverend Jim Forrester. So yeah, a lot of beer, a lot of metal coming together for this guy. Excellent. And speaking of which, and with that, what are we drinking, boys? We are drinking Stone. It's a collaboration between Stone and Main Brewery. It's called Day Slayer.

00:52:53.100 --> 00:53:21.400
Yeah, and it's definitely a... Stone basically came out with a tribute to Slayer beer. I love Stone. If I have a favorite brewer, it's probably them. Glasses down, horns high. Oh, Maine's involved there, too. They're also an excellent brewery. Oh, God, they're on... Yeah, but I love Stone because they do Arrogant Bastard. Right. But I think the point was you should also love Maine. And Ruination, which is probably my favorite. Yeah. So it's an India Pell Lager, so it's kind of a bastardization of two different styles. It's kind of like if you take a lager and make it more hoppy,

00:53:23.080 --> 00:53:52.820
Like I said, I said, do you want me to go? And you're like, no, no. And I'm like,

00:53:53.100 --> 00:54:22.240
It should have been John and then Will and then Jay and then me. It's called Variety, man. It's because Jay isn't in the room. And I'm just like, Jay goes first. He's not here. Oh, that's okay. That's all right. We'll get it right on the next one. Yeah. So anyway, all right. You know me. Yeah, it's one of those lists. It's pretty long. It's not one of my longer lists, but it's long. But I'm going to fly through it. Hold on. Let me cue the music. Yes. Dope Schmoker. All right.

00:54:23.080 --> 00:54:52.840
So first up is a band called Brothers of Metal. You're like, okay. They must like Manowar, right? Jay's laughing so hard he fell off his couch. Yeah, look what happened. Brothers of Metal and their album Prophecy of Ragnarok. If you like Manowar, you're probably going to dig this. It doesn't sound like Manowar, but the songs are very Manowar-ish. They're about Odin and battle and stuff like that. And it's cool.

00:54:53.080 --> 00:55:22.920
It's power metal and I dig it. So it's hard to come by. They don't have it on CD and they don't have it on Bandcamp. So you can only get like an MP3 version in a few places. But it's worth checking out. Next up is a band called Colonist. They're a Finnish prog metal band and their album Songs of the Machine. I tried to tempt John with this one. I don't think he took the bait. It's not bad. I've only listened probably one time straight through it.

00:55:23.080 --> 00:55:52.500
and other time kind of sporadically. So it's not bad. It's definitely a headphone album. I like it when I put it on with the headphones. If I try to play it through my speakers, it doesn't sound as good. I don't know why. But it's interesting. So finish prog metal. Check it out. Next up is a band called Dusk Mourne and their album of Shadow and Flame. They're an epic folk death band from the New Jersey, Pennsylvania area. Good stuff. Check them out.

00:55:53.880 --> 00:56:22.800
Next up is one that I've been waiting for. The band is called Evadne, E-V-A-D-N-E, and their new album, A Mother Named Death. This is their third album. They're a Death Doom band from Spain. Their last album a few years back was called The Shortest Way, and it came out while I was in my real huge Death Doom phase, and I really loved that. So this is pretty good too. Is that when you had long hair and were in the guys phase? No, no.

00:56:25.180 --> 00:56:53.000
Let's not talk about the 90s. Wait, how do you spell that? Evadne? E-V-A-D-N-E. It's good stuff. Next up is the band Exist and So True So Bound, a prog metal band from Baltimore. Hell yeah. So yeah, these guys are local. I don't know. We might have to try and get them on or something. They're really good. I'm down 150% on that. Yeah, they're pretty cool. Next up is the new Expulsion. Not the new. It's the first Expulsion.

00:56:53.240 --> 00:57:23.060
album nightmare future this is a an extreme metal super group featuring members of repulsion and exhumed and a couple other bands that i forgot to write down uh but if you like like repulsion you're probably gonna like expulsion the whole album's only like 14 minutes long uh but it's good it is it's really good uh next up i finally got to hear the uh album from our friends glue

00:57:24.219 --> 00:57:52.980
called Solaris. I don't know if I mentioned it on the last episode, but I went through a lot of grief trying to get this album. I bought it from an online flack legit business, and the download didn't work, and it took me weeks to finally... I just bought the CD from Amazon. I got a refund on the other thing. But anyway, so I finally heard it, and wow, this is pretty cool. Local boys. It wasn't quite what I expected, but damn, is it heavy.

00:57:53.100 --> 00:58:22.880
Oh yeah. So good job guys. I have a, just kind of a quick, funny story to tell him that nobody would have known this who's listening, but I just had to get up cause somebody was knocking at my door and it was a Jehovah's witness. I swear. You should have invited him in and sit down and put headphones on. No, I said, I said, you know what? I can't, I'm sorry. I can't talk. I'm doing a heavy metal podcast right now. And we've got Satan on as a guest. They gave me a flyer and off they went. Just, just for the record, anytime a Jehovah's witness or a Mormon knocks on my door,

00:58:23.100 --> 00:58:53.060
Oh, I invite them in. And we talk. Nice. Okay. Next up on my list, we're still not halfway. You're on E's, by the way. I'm on M. Oh, M? Morpheus Tales is the name of the band. And 2, Roman numeral 2 is their album. It's their second album. They're a band from Greece. They're an avant-garde black metal band. I'm not sure what to say other than check it out. I listened to this a lot before

00:58:53.100 --> 00:59:22.060
We're pulling the trigger. And it's just interesting. So check it out. I'm down right there in the avant-garde black metal part. And Grease, man. Grease does some really interesting music. Yes. So next is Necromant with a K. Snakes and Liars. This would go in the category of like Sabbath-y, Stoner Doom kind of band. But I think instead of smoking weed, these guys are popping Adderall because they're a little more focused and a little more driven.

00:59:23.100 --> 00:59:53.020
than your typical stoner doom band. I like it a lot, so check it out. What was it called? Necromant, with a K. Instead of a C. Next, we have Planning for Burial. Below the House is the name of the album. We're going to call this Gloom Gaze. G-A-Z-E. It's, I don't know, just check it out. It goes from really mellow kind of stuff to then,

00:59:53.100 --> 01:00:22.720
really kind of heavy sludgy kind of stuff. It's interesting. This is one that Neutrino told me about. The band is called Siberian and the album is called Through the Sleep of Ages. It's the second album from a Swedish sludge band. And this one kind of took me by surprise. I was like, wow. I was not expecting that. It's pretty cool. It is. So thank you, sir. Next we have Ulsect. U-L-S-E-C-T.

01:00:23.080 --> 01:00:52.440
They're self-titled first album. They're from the Netherlands. It's a tech avant-garde death band. I haven't listened to this a lot yet, but everything that I've heard so far, I have really liked, so I wanted to mention it. My final listening-to album is a band called Walpurgis, and their album Walpurgis Nights. This is a side project from the guys from Twisted Tower Dire.

01:00:53.080 --> 01:01:23.060
Sort of along the lines of, I think it's Dawnbringer and High Spirits. High Spirits is a very old school, 80s, early metal. And this is along those lines. If I had to liken them to somebody, it would be like that. It's very upbeat, catchy kind of stuff. I've heard people compare them to sort of Misfits kind of sound. I don't really agree with that. I understand it. There's a song called Dead Girls, which sounds like a

01:01:23.120 --> 01:01:52.440
Michael Graves era misfits that wrote a song for the Rocky Horror soundtrack. Okay. It's cool. It's catchy. It's fun stuff. So if you're looking for something a little more accessible, check that out. Moving on to my vinyl real quick. Actually, George, I got to be a grammar Nazi just for a minute. And I hate that word. And I never that guy, but I think it's pronounced Walpurgis. Walpurgis. Sorry. Yeah, I think it's a soft G. Gotcha. Okay.

01:01:53.100 --> 01:02:22.400
I've been looking for this one for a while. They finally reissued it from Blut aus Nord. Completing my trilogy from the 777 trilogy is Cosmosophy. I also picked up the four Celtic Frost reissues Morbid Tales under Megatherian and the Pandemonium Vanity Nemesis. I got the Cemetery Piss album Order of the Vulture, another local band. I think they're coming to Atlas. Nice.

01:02:23.080 --> 01:02:52.300
I'll be around to see that because I'd like to see them again. We saw them at the Decibel Medal and Beer Fest. I finally got a copy of Duel, Here Now, There Then, D-O-O-L, great album. The Iron Maiden reissues, I picked up No Prayer for the Dying and Fear of the Dark, finally got those. Did you already have Red New World? No, I just ordered that. This had not come out.

01:02:53.220 --> 01:03:21.500
Brave New World had not come out yet. I just ordered it the other day. Yeah, I haven't seen it in the story yet. I've got like a Russian bootleg of No Prayer for the Dying with a different album cover. So I got this one too to have a legit. And it's a different band as well? No, it's a same band. But still, it's all the songs from the album. Yeah. I picked up Mad Seasons Live at the Moor. Yeah. As well as Rotting Christ's Thy Mighty Contract.

01:03:23.720 --> 01:03:52.820
I also got on vinyl Solstafir's new one. I don't know how to pronounce that, so it's just the new one. Of course, I got Tombs, The Grand Annihilation. It didn't arrive on release day like I'd hoped, but it got there eventually. And finally, I also got on vinyl Wode's Servants of the Countercosmos. Fuck yeah. Yeah. All right. We're going to move on to a new bit that we mentioned in the last episode.

01:03:54.300 --> 01:04:22.220
that was suggested by Jay. So I'm the first, I'm the guinea pig here. You're the victim. Which, by the way, go ahead. We're calling this bit, at least for the moment, we're calling it Skullcrushers, because it makes you think. I like it. And we're going to do a segment jingle for this, too. Excellent. So basically what this is, it's like a little bit of trivia. Each episode, somebody is going to be the victim. They have to answer the questions.

01:04:23.100 --> 01:04:24.580
Picks a topic.

01:04:25.380 --> 01:04:29.180
And in this case, Jay picked Black Sabbath up through Born Again.

01:04:30.420 --> 01:04:33.880
Because I was like, if they come at me with Tony Martin, that's not going to work for me.

01:04:34.920 --> 01:04:35.980
I don't know those records.

01:04:36.080 --> 01:04:36.960
I don't like those records.

01:04:38.120 --> 01:04:45.280
So each of the rest of us is going to come up with the question to ask Jay, and he has to come up with the answer.

01:04:47.420 --> 01:04:49.200
So why don't we begin?

01:04:49.320 --> 01:04:50.360
Who wants to start?

01:04:50.720 --> 01:04:51.700
Why don't we start with John?

01:04:52.980 --> 01:05:21.540
All right, so I came up with two for you, Jay. One I think you'll figure out, and I can mention it to you later, but the one I'll go with is, it's a Dio question. Oh, perfect. What is the first song that Dio helped complete right when he joined the band? Heaven and Hell. No. What? No. Okay, wait. Okay, wow. I'm out of the box here in bad shape.

01:05:22.700 --> 01:05:52.580
Trust me, Jay, when I do mine, I'm going to miss every question. Trust me. Well, I'm going to just take one more guess then, and I'm going to say Children of the Sea. Bang. Yes. I might have heard that sometime. Yeah, I guess what it was is they actually he, Tony had written the riffs for the song, as I understand it. It wasn't working out with Ozzy. So there was stuff that was left over. And apparently, I guess when he met with Dio for the first time, like a quote unquote recording session, he like literally went in the corner and wrote the lyrics in like five minutes.

01:05:53.160 --> 01:06:21.180
This could be all folklore now, but they apparently wrote it and played it that day. Well, I don't think my guess was that much of a guess because I think I've heard that story too. So there might be some truth to it. We'll see. Who knows? And the funny thing is, by far one of the best Dio songs with Black Sabbath. It's great. Great song. All right, so you're 0 for 1. With a second guess, but fair enough. Yeah. And let's be fair, this is not going to be exactly as easy as it sounds. No.

01:06:23.000 --> 01:06:52.340
We're probably going to screw each other for a while. That's just the kind of question I want. I can guarantee if we did Opeth, I'd miss all three of them, I'm sure. All right. Will, what do you got for him? Jay, who illustrated the famous album cover of Sabbath, Bloody Sabbath? I swear to God, I was going to tell you guys, don't ask me who the artists are. If you don't know, I know this is... Picasso!

01:06:53.359 --> 01:07:21.040
That's all right. No, no, no. I don't know if you got the book. Actually, I got my copy from John. Oh, the acoustic. Yeah, the metal. Oh, you got that too? That's great. I have little bits of information in my head. I want to say, as far as I could probably go, that his first name might be John. Did I get that part? No. Okay, no. I don't know who it is. The artist's name was Drew Struzman. Oh, yeah. Struzan.

01:07:22.700 --> 01:07:27.820
from Pacific Eye and Ear, Design Firm owned by creative director Ernie Cephalu.

01:07:28.559 --> 01:07:37.460
This, you won't believe me for a second here, but when we were preparing to do this, I swear to you, one of the things I told myself was look and see who the artist who did that.

01:07:37.870 --> 01:07:38.460
I swear to God.

01:07:38.460 --> 01:07:39.240
Well, it's so famous.

01:07:39.850 --> 01:07:45.320
And the reason why I thought about asking that is because it's in that book, The Art of Metal, which I thought you had.

01:07:46.459 --> 01:07:49.400
No, but this is just the kind of thing. This is great. I'm loving it.

01:07:49.700 --> 01:07:53.440
You should definitely buy that book then if you don't have it.

01:07:53.740 --> 01:07:53.800
Yeah.

01:07:56.200 --> 01:07:58.200
So second part of that question.

01:08:00.280 --> 01:08:06.460
What beer in the Brewed Truth Guide to Extreme Beer has a label that is based off that album cover?

01:08:07.680 --> 01:08:09.980
Yeah, I don't know that. But is it? Let me ask you this.

01:08:09.980 --> 01:08:11.340
I don't even know that. I drink the book.

01:08:11.340 --> 01:08:14.100
Does it have a title that's like the album? Is it a title like the album?

01:08:14.720 --> 01:08:43.819
No, but the photo, the beer label and the album cover are extremely similar. Wow, I'll never get that one. Boy, I suck. What is it? I don't know that one either. Founder's Devil Dancer. Oh, nice. Get out of here. I've had that soon. Yeah, look it up. It's very similar. All right, well, I'm going to try and cue up a little softball for you. No, no, no, I got another one. Oh, you do? All right. I thought we were going to come up with like seven each. Yeah, go for it. No, it's supposed to be just like one each, but I don't know. Do what you got to do. All right.

01:08:44.700 --> 01:09:12.180
question after this is all done. Go for it. Jay, name all the Sabbath albums in order, starting with the first one, Up Until Born Again, which I just gave you the answer to the last one. And the first one. Self-titled. Yep. Paranoid. Yep. Master of Reality. Yep. Volume 4. That was the easy one. That was my little North Star there, halfway through.

01:09:15.520 --> 01:09:44.420
Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. Yep. Okay. Sabotage. Yep. Never Say Die. Think Robots. Oh, Techniclex to see. Yep. That one gets lost. Heaven and Hell. Mob Rules. Live Evil. Oh, well. Studio Alms. All right. He's still correct, though. It's the last one. I'm not born again. Yeah. All right.

01:09:44.700 --> 01:10:14.520
I did okay. I did all right. But you know what? I'm glad that the one I missed out on was Techniclex to see. I know what things about that. Jay, I'm going to go ahead and say you missed out on that one in your collection too, right? I don't own it. It's true. It's got one song on there. It's it. All right, John, go ahead and give me another question. All right. So this is, I'm assuming you know this one, Jay, because you're a fan of the band this guy's from. But what famous musician played on Sabbath Bloody Sabbath outside of the band? Did he play keyboards?

01:10:14.820 --> 01:10:15.040
Yes.

01:10:17.340 --> 01:10:18.040
Oh, no.

01:10:18.780 --> 01:10:22.040
No, I might have it. I want to say it might be Rick Wakeman.

01:10:22.160 --> 01:10:22.600
Yes.

01:10:23.120 --> 01:10:23.680
Got it. All right.

01:10:24.040 --> 01:10:25.580
Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding.

01:10:27.140 --> 01:10:29.980
And I'm trying to remember, did he play on Who Are You?

01:10:30.060 --> 01:10:31.460
Or was there something specific he played on?

01:10:32.280 --> 01:10:33.460
Yes, and I can't remember the song.

01:10:34.260 --> 01:10:34.500
Yes.

01:10:34.940 --> 01:10:37.340
But for those of you who don't know, Rick Wakeman was the keyboardist in Yes

01:10:37.500 --> 01:10:39.800
and many different incarnations of Yes.

01:10:40.320 --> 01:10:40.460
Yes.

01:10:40.460 --> 01:10:41.000
Do you remember?

01:10:41.280 --> 01:10:42.280
So I'm going to ask you guys a question.

01:10:42.420 --> 01:11:11.860
Do you remember who wrote? Who are you? The who? No. The Sabbath one. It was Ozzy. I mean, when you think about it, it's funny because it's like any idiot could figure out that keyboard part. He was like, hey, listen to this, guys. All right. At least I'm saving a little face here. All right. I think you can get this one, but I wouldn't have gotten it even though I read the book. Black Sabbath almost never was.

01:11:12.440 --> 01:11:41.400
Because Tony Iommi almost quit at the start to join this other well-known British band. Who was the band? I think I know because he did play with them for a few minutes. Well-known British band that you like. Jethro Tull. Yeah. If you watch Rock and Roll Circus, the Rolling Stones movie, he actually is in Jethro Tull in that. Yeah, I've seen that. Yeah. All right, cool. All right, well, I saved a little face.

01:11:42.400 --> 01:11:43.420
And those are good questions.

01:11:43.680 --> 01:11:45.480
Tell you what, it's not as easy as it sounds doing that.

01:11:45.540 --> 01:11:46.180
It's not.

01:11:46.300 --> 01:11:47.600
It's not because you never know where you're coming.

01:11:47.680 --> 01:11:51.140
But I have, like you guys, I've read so many books and magazines and things over the years.

01:11:51.230 --> 01:11:53.460
I got a lot of useless information bouncing around here.

01:11:53.980 --> 01:11:55.000
But I feel good about my average.

01:11:55.110 --> 01:11:55.760
That wasn't so bad.

01:11:57.640 --> 01:12:03.380
So to prepare for the next episode, we need to come up with a person and a topic.

01:12:03.540 --> 01:12:04.760
And I'm going to volunteer to go next.

01:12:05.480 --> 01:12:05.740
Okay.

01:12:05.920 --> 01:12:08.400
And I'm going to say Metallica up through Black Album.

01:12:09.140 --> 01:12:09.200
Great.

01:12:09.400 --> 01:12:09.840
Okay, fair enough.

01:12:10.300 --> 01:12:10.520
That works.

01:12:10.720 --> 01:12:11.540
I have a question for you.

01:12:12.100 --> 01:12:40.360
No, not yet. Next time. Next time. What is the shittiest album they made up through the Black Album? Black Album? Yeah. God, you're a fucking genius. All right. Well, John, you're next. Next time we will do... That's going to be fun. I'm going to hit you hard, buddy. All right. I figured that... For what it's worth, I enjoy this kind of thing. I like that. I'm hoping that this will live on. So I'm going to come at you hard, George. All right. Okay. So now, if we had a drum roll,

01:12:42.120 --> 01:13:06.840
We've been waiting for the top 11 albums of 2017 so far because all our amps go to 11. So we are going to start with John, move on to Will, then Jay, then myself. But before we do that, it's time to fill up. So we'll be right back with more beer and metal for ya.

01:13:12.120 --> 01:13:41.900
What are we drinking? We're drinking Clown Shoes. I think they're based out of New York. Clown Shoes? Clown Shoes. Clown Shoes. Crasher in the Rye 2017. Imperial Oatmeal Milk Stout aged in rye barrels. Are you on a rye kick lately? I love rye. I do too. I absolutely love it. You'll notice at Atlas there's a lot of rye beers. That's why I like them. And if it was up to me there'd be even more smoke, more rye, more smoke, more rye. If you get the rye balance just right,

01:13:42.520 --> 01:14:11.620
We just came out with our second year of making Rye Rye My Darling. Rye Rye Rye My Darling. Nicely done. I like that. That's a great song. All right. We're done. Thank you very much. Good night. Thank you very much. Thank you. Thank you very much. All right. So are we ready to fucking destroy this? We're going to destroy it. Chills. Jay, are you drinking out there? It's got to be noon by now out there. Almost noon. No, but I was a little headachy.

01:14:11.960 --> 01:14:25.180
I'm glad it makes a nooner. Yeah, you know, there's a lot of nooners, but I must have a little headache. Really? Wow. You're a lucky guy. All right. Well, we are going to now give you our top 11 albums of 2017 so far.

01:14:42.699 --> 01:14:49.120
We made a list and we all made a list and we're gonna tell you all about it right now.

01:15:11.940 --> 01:15:41.120
It's more of a government fiscal kind of list. Yeah. George is a subcontractor. Yes, I'm a contractor. And by the way, I did go through and double check that all my albums were released in 2017. As did I. If it wasn't for George correcting me on something, I would have had something on here in 2015. 2015? Yeah, droids attack. I was so excited. Oh, the new droids attack is awesome. You're like, what new droids attack? I'm like, dude, that came out in the 70s.

01:15:43.440 --> 01:16:11.420
That's 1977. Dude, I just picked up this new album by Black Sabbath. It's called Paranoid. It's awesome, dude. All right. So we are going to do number 11. All right. And we will start with John. Disclaimer. For anything I mention, say, minus one album, including honorable mentions, I have no idea what my year end's going to look like because there's a lot of albums that are good. Not a lot of super standouts. So take this.

01:16:11.460 --> 01:16:41.400
There's a lot of stuff coming too, John. George, I was talking about that earlier today. Yeah, I have like a number 11 and then a whole bunch of number 2s and a number 1. And even the number 1 could be a number 2. So, this is disclaimer. Take it all with a grain of salt. Or a pint of beer. Alright, my number 11. Sunless. I don't even know how to pronounce this. Eureka, I guess is so. It's the Avant-Garde

01:16:41.460 --> 01:17:11.340
our death metal band that came out earlier in the year. I knew that was going to be on your list. I just didn't think so low. Number 11? Number 11! All right. Yeah, because all my other albums are just as cool, if not better. Yeah, exactly. It's not an easy listen. I'm sure people are going to say that about at least one of mine. Yeah, so I butchered the name of the album, but the band's name is Sunless. It's the green album with the circle on the front. It's cool. I think if you like death metal and you like a little more avant-garde,

01:17:11.440 --> 01:17:13.460
type death metal. Maybe close to

01:17:14.040 --> 01:17:14.880
recent Gore Guts, you think?

01:17:15.560 --> 01:17:17.560
A little bit? Yeah. I think you would enjoy

01:17:17.680 --> 01:17:19.580
this album. Give it a spin if you

01:17:19.680 --> 01:17:20.880
don't know it. It's good.

01:17:21.620 --> 01:17:23.660
You know, I had Sunless on my

01:17:24.010 --> 01:17:24.740
list for a little while.

01:17:26.260 --> 01:17:27.760
Just letting you know. And now you don't.

01:17:28.620 --> 01:17:29.560
Now it's in a fucking

01:17:29.840 --> 01:17:31.620
dumpster fire. I've got a lot of things

01:17:31.730 --> 01:17:33.800
on my list that are not. I thought maybe I took it off because it's an EP

01:17:33.950 --> 01:17:35.200
or something, but maybe it's not.

01:17:35.510 --> 01:17:37.760
No, it's not an EP. You just don't like it as much.

01:17:38.780 --> 01:17:39.140
Dickhead.

01:17:40.440 --> 01:17:41.240
Jesus, man.

01:17:43.380 --> 01:18:11.100
So my caveat for my list is mostly what I'm not I don't rate my albums as to the I mean yes quality is a factor but it's like what did I just listen to over and over and over again and what just stuck with me and it really doesn't have based on the merits of what someone else review site or whatever thought of this album. With that said my number 11 nailed to obscurity.

01:18:11.360 --> 01:18:41.180
King Delusion. That's a good album. Yeah. It's a lot of death metal from Germany. This could have been... It reminds me a lot of Paradise Lost. It's kind of Death Doom. Yeah. And this could have been much, much, much higher on my list. And it actually was higher on my list probably just a couple days ago. But there's some clean singing in it. And I just don't think the clean singing is all that good. And it doesn't mix well enough. And I think this album could have been a lot better if they just either cut it out.

01:18:42.400 --> 01:19:11.300
or... Good with a handicap. Yeah, yeah. Sort of like, it's a really great album, but the clean singing... But it lengths. Yeah, yeah. You know what I think I'm getting from you saying that, Will? Because you've said that a number of times on a number of different albums. It just goes to prove how well Mike Akerfeld did do it for all those years. Yes, it absolutely does. It really does. And I think the guy from November's Doom is not a great clean vocalist. He's gotten better, but it just proves how hard it is when you're a good harsh singer to pull off the clean vocals. Yeah, and I 100% agree.

01:19:11.380 --> 01:19:40.520
I agree. Which is why Paradise Lost is pretty damn cool. That's how I used to tell Opeth to people. I used to tell people it's basically, you know, death metal with Crosby, Stills, and Nash. You know what I mean? Like, it works. And that's, it's a really commit, that was what's wrong with so many metal bands is how bad their sort of ballady parts are and things. And yeah, I agree with you. I think that's. I think George got the other guy, Nick Holmes does it really well. And his, I think his harsh vocals are better now than it have been in years. Oh yeah. So, yeah. All right. Jay, number 11.

01:19:42.420 --> 01:20:11.040
I don't want to do any spoilers or anything, so I didn't giggle or anything, but I wanted to sunless Haraka. Yeah. And thank you for the pronunciation, but that bear may have got to me there. I could be wrong, though, John, but I agree with you. There's a little special something going on there. It's cool. It reminds me of Isis and Macedon in places, and yet it's a straight-up death metal thing. It's good. I like it. I think if you were here right now, John would be playing footsies with you under the table. I can't. My footsies. Yeah, we'd be hugging. We'd be hugging for sure.

01:20:11.080 --> 01:20:40.180
But Jay, just real quick, do you admit at times it can be a lot to take in? Challenge. It's challenging. They rip into it. It's just this amazing riff for like about 30 seconds. You're like, fuck. Yeah, and then sometimes it's just like math, you know, and that's okay. You know, I don't have a problem with that. But they don't overdo it, though. They don't overdo it. I agree. Yeah. Cool. All right. My number 11 that nobody else has ever liked but me. Ever Circling Wolves.

01:20:40.260 --> 01:21:10.120
and of woe or how I learned to stop worrying and love the gloom. And you should love the gloom band as well. I thought about it. There's some late parts in the record are hard. The clean vocals, there's a good example. I don't think the clean vocals are great on that record. Some of them are okay, but yeah, I hear you. And he's just talking about his girlfriend endlessly through it, and that kind of weirded me out a little bit. Fine. Well, no, no, no, I'm not trying to be hard on you. It's my number at live.

01:21:10.280 --> 01:21:39.660
Come on! Well, George was nice enough. I do have to tell you before we get too far on your list. George is nice enough to send us a scrambled version of some of the stuff he likes, including his honorable mentions. So we don't know what he's going to say. But I was going to tell you, George, are you depressed, bro? Because everyone in your records is like down in sorrow and so on and so forth. I do tend to like depressive music. Yeah, well, you nailed it this year. Thanks. All right. Back to John.

01:21:39.720 --> 01:22:08.820
Yeah, just FYI. Oh, FYI. Dire and Ever-Circling Wolves is a beer from Burial Beer Company. Oh, nice. Well, somebody's cool. I remember Metal Chris checked into this because him and his girlfriend Catherine went down to Asheville, North Carolina, went to Burial, who was at the Desible Metal Beer Fest. I'm going in six weeks. Oh, nice. They make such good beer. Fuck yeah. They like you a lot, too. Yeah, and you can skip Wicked Weed now.

01:22:10.880 --> 01:22:39.700
But anyway, they make a beer, ever-circling wolves, and I thought maybe it was based off the band. Might be. But I did hear that album, and I did like it for a split second. Excellent. Better stuff came out. Yeah. Well, this was actually, you know, I was talking to John yesterday about changes, and that was the change that I made yesterday on my list. Was that your change? This was on my list. It was actually way up on my list when I first started making a list, and it just started getting

01:22:40.320 --> 01:23:09.700
And then there was something that was in the 11 spot for a while. And I listened to the two and I was like, no, this one's definitely better. So just to make up for my criticism, George, it was on a version of my list for a little while. Right on. Yeah, I feel better now. I feel half adequate, adequate. No, I like y'all. I just didn't make my list. All right. I just haven't heard much about anybody talking about it. All right. So number 10, John. All right. So I'm guessing George

01:23:09.740 --> 01:23:39.620
I think this is a little low on my list. I love this album, but it's just too damn long. So I get a little lost in it sometimes. Jesus, John! Oh, wait, what is it? Fen, Winter. What? Yes. Yeah, that's long. Oh, my God! But there are some parts on it that are just... I just figured out George is number one. No, I was thinking that was going to be up in John's, like, top three. That's why I said to you this list could be changed. Wow! Because when you list this album, there are moments on this,

01:23:39.740 --> 01:24:09.080
It's just like the best album of the year. But then they kind of meander a little bit. Do you have the second disc? No. Yeah, there's a second disc. I don't listen to it because it's just so long. And it could stay in my top ten for the year, considering that there's so many albums still coming out. But I think my only issue is just that it gets a little long. Even though each song, I think, is great on their own. Wow, I am shocked. All right.

01:24:09.720 --> 01:24:38.860
My number 10, Hideous Divinity. Advenians. Wow. Advenians. Advenians? Sure. So I'm not the only one. These guys remind me a lot of Nile, but they're from Naples, Florida. Pure, like, somewhat technical death thrash from Florida.

01:24:39.720 --> 01:25:09.700
I have not listened to it but it sounds good. No, it's a really, really good album. In fact, what I always do is after I make my list, I go through and I check all the other sites to see if everybody else in the world is like, this album blows! And you're like, fuck all you. I recheck everything with Decibel or Angry Metal Guy or the numerous gazillion others. I do too. I'm like, hey, I think this is a great album. Do they like it too? I do that and most of the time, the stuff that I really like, everybody else

01:25:09.800 --> 01:25:39.700
rates like in the middle of they like out of on a 10 scale they're like it's a six or a seven and i'm like screw you guys how many text messages have i said angry metal guy's dead to me now that yeah like yeah like then two days later angry metal guy's the greatest man ever anyway all right here's divinity check them out cool jay um this one doesn't warrant a lot of descriptions polish band i sent it out i think i mentioned it all

01:25:39.720 --> 01:26:09.680
to you guys back when I found it. But it's a really good doom record and it's just super solid. Dope Lord, Children of the Haze. Nice. I forgot about that actually. I felt like that was last year. That is a record that I just listened to over and over and over again. It is a good record. I don't know why. It just wasn't on my radar. I know that it's not last year, but it just feels like it was last year. Well, there's nothing unique about it. It doesn't stand out, but it's just good. You could forget it easy. It's not that I forgot it. It just felt

01:26:09.720 --> 01:26:39.680
like last year. And I think it's just because the beginning of the year, because I know it came out early in the year. February or March, yeah. Yeah, it just seems like so long ago. January. Oh, January even. So there you go. That's an easy one to lose. Is it me or is Poland just putting out a boatload of good music? I was exactly going to say that. And Poland is just every genre. Every genre. Yeah, I'm in genre. I got Nemeth. I have at least two Polish bands on mine and there might be three. Everything from prog rock to

01:26:39.720 --> 01:27:09.680
to brutal death metal. They just put out a ton of music. You've got at least one Polish one on here, thinking, John, I hope, because you turned me on to a record that's way up on my list. And you might not know they're Polish. I may not then, I don't know. I'll mention when I get to it. I have two and a very strong honorable mention from Poland on my list. Alright, I might not. I feel bad now. I think you might, John. I think you don't know they're from Poland. But we'll see. So my number 10, I'm shocked

01:27:10.240 --> 01:27:39.200
that it is at number 10, but that's what we're looking at this year. Number 10, Memoriam for the Fallen. Wow. I thought that would be higher. Yeah, the Bolt Thrower-ish album. Yeah. In fact, this wasn't even on my list for a long time, and I was like, wait a minute. I was listening to it, and I was like, that's not even on my list. And so I had to boot something off to get it on there. And I was like, get out of the way. Memoriam's coming through.

01:27:40.740 --> 01:27:41.720
But yeah, 10.

01:27:43.100 --> 01:27:44.560
I think that's the beauty this year, though.

01:27:45.400 --> 01:27:45.920
It's like, yeah.

01:27:46.180 --> 01:27:51.420
It's like, from here all the way to two or even one, any of these could be interchangeable.

01:27:51.520 --> 01:27:51.880
I agree.

01:27:52.180 --> 01:27:52.280
Yeah.

01:27:53.200 --> 01:27:53.560
I agree.

01:27:54.280 --> 01:27:54.540
All right.

01:27:54.580 --> 01:27:56.320
We're going to go back to John for number nine.

01:27:57.240 --> 01:27:57.560
All right.

01:27:57.800 --> 01:28:03.640
So I think I'm going to be the first one to kick this off amongst the couple of bands that I think we all have on our list.

01:28:03.740 --> 01:28:03.900
Uh-oh.

01:28:05.800 --> 01:28:07.460
I think I was the first one to hear these guys.

01:28:08.100 --> 01:28:38.040
And I heard them because the description I heard was they are this year's monolord. If it is what I think it is, I can't believe it's actually number nine. That's how many good albums are this year. Will might have been playing this at the brewery the other night, maybe, and it sounded really good. Yeah, and I told you, hey, Ted. And I couldn't figure it out. Hey, listen to what I'm playing. Hey, John, John, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here

01:28:38.080 --> 01:29:08.000
What the fuck are you playing? Bantha Rider? No. Can I say it? No, you say it. Ordos, House of the Dead. Okay, here's the problem. That was the band I thought was from Poland. They're from Sweden. Great record. Totally owe John for turning us on to that one this year. It's a combination of Stoner and Doom. And neither one of them dominates the album, I think. I think it's a good combination. The vocalist has this kind of cool, creepy growl, harsh vocals, but then he goes,

01:29:10.940 --> 01:29:13.360
It's just everything about it.

01:29:13.360 --> 01:29:13.760
It's golden locks.

01:29:14.440 --> 01:29:17.080
It's kind of scary in places even.

01:29:17.240 --> 01:29:19.940
It's kind of like a good little horror metal story.

01:29:19.970 --> 01:29:22.780
I think it's a concept record and I can't decide if it is or isn't.

01:29:22.820 --> 01:29:27.880
Cool cover and the title track itself is just, I think they shine on that song.

01:29:28.300 --> 01:29:30.720
This is the one, John, that I said I was getting a little nervous.

01:29:31.130 --> 01:29:32.820
Or maybe we were driving up in the car.

01:29:37.930 --> 01:29:38.040
Yeah.

01:29:38.040 --> 01:30:07.980
earlier on some of our year-end and mid-year list of putting out stuff that was the previous year. I went through it. I made sure that all the records that I'm listing are from 2017. And Ordos came out early, but they released a single in 2016. Yeah. That's so good. Such a good record. Disqualified! And, you know, I'm really surprised. I do this thing, you know, where I listen to an album on headphones. And I used to do it, like, every night, but I change it to once a week. And I just did this one recently.

01:30:08.060 --> 01:30:37.960
I was surprised. I thought I did it earlier. You did it about a month ago. I remember I was in Philadelphia. I literally got it like, what the fuck is this? I'm like, yeah, it's cool. I learned about these guys from you. My number nine. I learned about it from watching you. Where were we at? Nine? Nine. My number nine. Beheaded, Beast Incarnate. Death metal band from Malta that had been around since the 90s. I'd never even heard of these guys before.

01:30:38.060 --> 01:31:08.020
which is shocking to me. But wow, this album just, this is the album, what was the album last year that just tore into me and hooked me in a guy I can't remember. It was like number five or something last year. Clutch. Clutch is always number one. But anyway, and this is one of the ones that I went back. I love this album. I don't care what anyone's

01:31:08.040 --> 01:31:36.440
says. I went to a couple sites and people panned it. They've been around forever, so there's such a huge history to compare it to. I've never even heard these guys before beheaded, and I was like, this is awesome. It just ripped into me. I have a clutch story. I think you've probably all had it shoved down your throat by now that my groom's cake was on a show called Ace of Cakes.

01:31:37.740 --> 01:32:07.700
I didn't know it was on ice of cakes, but I remember seeing the, I just asked you about the picture somewhere. Yeah. Uh, we, my, my wife secretly had a groom's cake made. Uh, and this was before the ace of cakes show started. And so we were like in the first season, uh, she went to, uh, charm city cakes in Baltimore and had them make me a fist of rock cake. It was a black cake with band logos written

01:32:07.740 --> 01:32:34.000
the sides with a hand coming up out of the middle of the cake, throwing the horns with a ring and tuxedo cuffs. I had no idea that this thing was made. And during the wedding, they came out and presented me the whole, oh my gosh, surprise thing. And so that's sort of my 15 minutes of fame. I was on TV.

01:32:39.580 --> 01:33:07.180
And I did not know this, but if you watch the episode, there's various people at the Charm City Cakes. Duff is the owner and the well-known one. There's a woman on there. She's sort of like the... I don't want to call her a secretary, but she's the one that answers the phones and organizes all their schedules and stuff. The boss. She's fucking Neil Fallon's sister.

01:33:07.720 --> 01:33:37.380
Oh, really? Okay. That's awesome. I was like, shut up. Barb was telling me that. She's like, you know, that's, she's the, because we watched our anniversary was recently and we watched the episode and she's like, you know, she's related to some rock star. You might know him. And she was like, clutch. And I was like, huh? She's like, Neil Fallon. I was like, shut up. Oh, at least you got it right. She said rock and not metal. Yeah. So I was like, that's really cool. So,

01:33:37.720 --> 01:34:06.520
Barb has met her and like you know by the way on the way up here I turn my car on and what song is playing clutch x-ray visions and I'm like hey hey it looks like uh rock song yeah liquid metal they don't they don't play any metal anymore just rock assholes I hate to say it but that was the best song they've played in hours on that station yeah they don't play anything good on there by the way George the best picture you posted was Barb's kind of sarcastic like horns where she's like I was just like that is fucking badass

01:34:08.100 --> 01:34:37.520
It's just so funny the way she looks. She's like, rock on! The picture's just perfect. Yeah. So, thanks, honey. Anyway. She does not listen to this at all. No, she doesn't. But nevertheless. Yeah. Alright, so we're on number nine, and you did yours, so that means it's Jay's day. I think, I know I'm the only one with this one, but it's kind of like Black Fucking Cancer for me. Last year, this one is a really good old-school-y Black Metal.

01:34:37.840 --> 01:35:07.280
I don't know. Anyway, Goath. G-O-A-T-H. The name of the album is Luciferian Goath Ritual. That was pretty cool. I liked that. I just haven't listened to it lately. Yeah, it's good. It's good. It's for an old school guy like me or you or all of us. Yeah, all of us. It fits in. It's something that could have come out in maybe 87 to 92 or something like that. It's good. It is a really good kind of black metal, death metal. That's the best I can say about it. It's good. I dig it.

01:35:07.740 --> 01:35:37.680
Excellent. Continuing my line of, I can't believe this is my number nine. This really could have been number two. Uh, Woad, Servants of the Countercosmos, number nine. Good album. I'm a little surprised. Yeah, it's really good. Yeah, I couldn't believe it. I was just comparing it to everything else, and I'm like, nope, I can't top it. Nope, I can't. But it's great. I did go back and compare it, George, to the other one, and it's substantially different than the last one. Yeah, yeah, I listened to it, too, after we had that coming.

01:35:38.620 --> 01:35:39.760
They definitely developed

01:35:40.440 --> 01:35:40.800
with this one.

01:35:42.660 --> 01:35:43.060
All right.

01:35:43.720 --> 01:35:44.300
Number eight.

01:35:44.800 --> 01:35:44.940
John.

01:35:45.540 --> 01:35:45.840
Okay.

01:35:46.720 --> 01:35:48.240
They are a progmental band

01:35:48.360 --> 01:35:48.940
from Australia.

01:35:49.420 --> 01:35:51.040
I'm guaranteeing nobody's even

01:35:51.460 --> 01:35:51.900
listened to this

01:35:52.060 --> 01:35:52.900
or has it on their list.

01:35:53.500 --> 01:35:54.000
Which is fine.

01:35:54.620 --> 01:35:55.360
I really don't care.

01:35:57.200 --> 01:35:58.000
You don't care at all.

01:35:58.580 --> 01:35:59.480
I don't care.

01:35:59.960 --> 01:36:00.960
It's a band called Voyager

01:36:01.020 --> 01:36:01.520
and the album's called

01:36:01.680 --> 01:36:01.940
Go Smile.

01:36:03.200 --> 01:36:04.220
Which you guys can look

01:36:04.420 --> 01:36:05.080
shunned and shocked.

01:36:06.000 --> 01:36:07.380
I wish we had some crickets.

01:36:07.440 --> 01:36:37.420
Yeah. Well, it's getting a lot of traction on a lot of sites, but that's not the reason why I like it. I just think it's a good, solid album. Excellent. I'm going to check it out just because I fucking love Australia. I love John. I just wrote it down. You won't like it, trust me. But nonetheless, thank you. I just wrote it down. Thanks for stopping by. All right, Will, number eight. Number eight. This one, I fell asleep last night listening to this because this is the one out

01:36:37.980 --> 01:37:06.840
that I had been wanting to love. I shouldn't say wanting to love. It wasn't hard. I just never had time to spend with it. I just felt like I had to just lay in a dark room, put headphones on, and fall asleep. Yeah, and fall asleep. But what I got through most of the album, Glossin, Grimen or Grimen. Yeah. Those guys are good, and they're interesting. Yeah. It's kind of like a death doom kind of thing.

01:37:07.460 --> 01:37:37.300
I really love their EP from like a year or two ago. Yeah. So that was literally a last minute change this morning where this was not not even on the honorable mentions. And then I just decided that GLOSON. Okay, thanks. And then the name of the album is GRIMEN. It's either Griman or Grimmen. Thanks. When I try and teach my daughter how to read, when you have to tell her about like the sneaky,

01:37:37.980 --> 01:38:07.280
So if you have one valve or one consonant between the two, the valve and the E, the sneaky E, it makes it a long vowel sound. Griming. So this should be Griming, but you never know. You never know. All right. I think we're up to J. Number eight. Number eight. George turned me on. I know George turns you on, but just get to the point. George turned me on. And anyway, my number eight.

01:38:07.460 --> 01:38:36.420
I didn't mean to turn you on. George did turn me on. More classic rock for you. It is a band called Farsat. Yeah. Album Failure. Failure. Good man. One of these sort of cleaned up death metal things, for lack of a better way of putting it, which is to say kind of hyper clear tones and production. Super interesting. A lot of cool, catchy points in it.

01:38:36.440 --> 01:39:04.900
I can't think of anybody to compare them to. Pretty unique sounding. And this record is like stuck in my brain right now. It is. It really is a good album. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge. Many points to George for sending that my way. Good choice. So a whole bunch of guys are going to have fartsock on your list. Fartsocker? Fartsocker? We don't use feet. We use another instrument.

01:39:08.240 --> 01:39:08.720
All right.

01:39:08.720 --> 01:39:08.820
All right.

01:39:08.880 --> 01:39:09.540
I resisted, George.

01:39:10.320 --> 01:39:12.560
My number eight, Black Anvil, as was.

01:39:13.280 --> 01:39:13.600
Yes.

01:39:14.080 --> 01:39:15.180
I would have heard that a couple of times.

01:39:15.880 --> 01:39:16.120
Yeah.

01:39:17.620 --> 01:39:19.680
That one was actually battling with Wode.

01:39:19.780 --> 01:39:22.120
I was like, come on, Wode's got to be better than that.

01:39:22.140 --> 01:39:23.480
I haven't hardly listened to this lately.

01:39:24.300 --> 01:39:26.420
And then I put the Black Anvil on, and I was like, no, no.

01:39:26.820 --> 01:39:27.440
Two different beasts.

01:39:27.580 --> 01:39:28.580
It's a little better than Wode, yeah.

01:39:28.920 --> 01:39:30.900
To completely two different styles of black metal.

01:39:31.220 --> 01:39:31.720
Yeah, for sure.

01:39:33.180 --> 01:39:33.300
So.

01:39:34.280 --> 01:39:34.500
All right.

01:39:34.600 --> 01:39:35.100
So there you go.

01:39:35.680 --> 01:40:05.320
We're back to you, John, for number seven. Let's just repeat George and say number seven. Black Anvil as was. It's like one better than mine. Yeah. It's one bigger or smaller. George says, hey, you should check this album out. It's a black metal band, but it's not the same as what they've done before. I think you might like it. And I'm like, oh, great. Another black metal band. And don't get me wrong. I like black metal. First listen, I think I wrote back and said, dude, what the fuck? This is awesome. Yeah. It's their kind of, they're venturing to,

01:40:05.680 --> 01:40:34.100
Like progressive black, I guess. Yeah, for sure. Which is, for them, almost an about face. Definitely, compared to what they used to do, yeah. So it's cool. Excellent. All right. All right, Will, what do you have for number eight that's some weird death metal that nobody's ever heard of? Seven, man. Seven, whatever it is. Fuck. I'm just playing. I love you. Look of death. I just gave you my thousand, thousand yard stare of death.

01:40:35.660 --> 01:41:05.140
Number 7, Bloom, Solaris. Yeah, there we go. That was the first one. And I struggled to put this on the list, and I'll explain why. Because I know all these guys in this band. Well, they're local to the D.C. area. They played at Atlas, I think, at least once. They were the original headlining band to ever play. They were the last metal night, I think. The official metal night. Yeah, yes. And I'm friends with all the guys in the bands.

01:41:08.420 --> 01:41:35.620
I've actually listened to this record for over a year now. Yeah. Because I got an advanced copy of it. Wait, so it's not from... No, I'm just kidding. No, but it was released in June, so it was just released a couple weeks ago. But I fucking love these guys. They put their heart and soul into this. It's a credit. They're all classically trained musicians. Dante and Guitar.

01:41:35.680 --> 01:42:03.920
Jason on bass, Bill on vocals, and the great Albert Bourne on drums. Albert the Beard! Not that kind of beard. Albert's also in Yesterday's Saints. 100 other bands. Yeah, he used to be in Pentagram. He was in Pentagram for a little while. Albert is one of the coolest people you'll ever meet. And he's one of the D.C. area, just kind of like our metal royalty guys. Yeah, and he's just always around. He's in every show.

01:42:05.660 --> 01:42:35.560
and I know that when they released this album they were hoping to sort of maybe re-record it because it was not recorded with Albert on drums. And there was a few slight line-up changes when they recorded this, but even so, this is such a great album and that I struggled because I was so close to the album, so close to them. Should I put this on the list? Should I not put it on the list? But I love it. I mean, it is so good.

01:42:35.660 --> 01:43:05.420
And it's gotten a lot. And I know I love it. And I've looked out at, I've searched on, I use the Google machine. And they got a lot of great reviews on this. They just got off the tour with Cryptopsy and stuff. So it's like, yeah, check it out. It's a lot of greatness to come. Yeah. And I guarantee the next album will, whatever they put out, the next album will probably be my top five easily, if not my number one, because it's so good. And it's, it's very much like a, a cross between aggressive,

01:43:05.660 --> 01:43:35.200
Death, Black, and they vary. His vocals vary in songs. He's an amazing vocalist. Bill is. Yes. Check it out. Gloom, Solaris. Jay. I wonder, George, if you made this one non-eligible for your list because it's almost an EP, but I know that you liked it, and I liked it a lot. Locust Leaves, a subtler kind of light.

01:43:35.660 --> 01:44:04.000
This is a Greek band. This has got to be a bedroom project because it kind of sounds bedroom-y, but it's so unique sounding. It kind of reminds me of a slightly singier, that's a word, singier, I just made that up, Slough Fag with a lot of weird twists and turns and stuff. It's definitely a concept record. I can hear that. If you ride along with it, it goes to some pretty cool emotional highs and stuff. This guy's really shocked me. They have a few other records out, and honestly, it's the only one I have, but it was a real pleasant surprise this year.

01:44:04.500 --> 01:44:34.140
I bought this on your recommendation, and I do like it, and I struggled with it on my list. Ultimately, it did not make the list. However, you will probably hear it in my honorable mentions. This was one kind of like... Kretus? No, I was going to say from my listening to The Colonist Band. If I listened to this one on my speakers, I didn't like it all that much.

01:44:37.780 --> 01:45:03.920
But headphones are the crack of some of these bands. Yeah. It changes everything. Either way, it is definitely a very good and interesting album. And it is definitely worth checking out. But I just have such stuff on my list. I just couldn't make it. But it was in contention. But I validate your thing there, too, though, because it's definitely a headphoner. And almost like required. I agree with you. It's not the same if you play it in your car or something. And that's why I call it a bedroom band, because I think the production,

01:45:06.220 --> 01:45:08.640
It's probably mixed with headphones on instead of speakers

01:45:09.420 --> 01:45:11.220
Exactly, but such a fine record

01:45:11.440 --> 01:45:12.280
I was really impressed

01:45:12.720 --> 01:45:14.120
Hey, if I could just jump in for a second

01:45:15.280 --> 01:45:16.820
No one who's listening could see this

01:45:17.360 --> 01:45:18.400
except for George Will and I

01:45:19.000 --> 01:45:20.520
Jay's sitting in his place

01:45:20.760 --> 01:45:22.240
just sitting there, going along

01:45:22.720 --> 01:45:24.580
I noticed he dropped Black Fucking Cancer in there

01:45:24.580 --> 01:45:26.060
which most people would say, oh, he's just swearing

01:45:26.200 --> 01:45:27.040
No, that's the name of the band

01:45:27.520 --> 01:45:29.240
But Gene just comes popping by

01:45:29.580 --> 01:45:30.420
She goes by for a second

01:45:30.920 --> 01:45:32.340
Jay drops a Black Fucking Cancer

01:45:32.460 --> 01:45:34.320
She comes walking by again like it's nothing

01:45:34.460 --> 01:46:03.220
It's almost like Jay's not there. She's just used to your foul mouth. It's a video game in the background. I use so much bad language that it doesn't stand out. No, it's just perfect. It's just like, yeah, whatever. Jay's swearing again. It's like, it's like, Jed, I'll drop a bomb somewhere. It's just like, I'm not changing them now. Yeah, just walk right by. Keep moving. It's part of the package. All right. Defective package.

01:46:04.340 --> 01:46:33.300
You get what you pay for, man. Didn't pay anything, yeah. All right, George. All right, my number seven. These are a former guest on the podcast. Ooh. And... Participation. Possibly a future guest on the podcast. We'll see. John, any guesses? I'll let you say it. I'm watching my beer get poured, sorry. A Flourishing Scourge. Their self-titled full-length album.

01:46:34.340 --> 01:47:04.160
Wow, what a great album this is. It is. It really is. And to be honest, I think the sound has kind of changed a bit since their EP. It's gone from more progressive death to blackish death. But it's still really good. Production's way better than this album, I think. Yeah, so guys, good job. Good job for sure. And if you want to come on, let me know. We'll hook something up. I think they would be... I was not here for the first time you guys interviewed them. That's right. I noticed that.

01:47:04.340 --> 01:47:34.260
I don't think Will was either. Yeah, those guys are pretty awesome. So, A Flourishing Scourge, self-titled album. Check them out. Bandcamp, iTunes, wherever. And please get a physical copy of some form for that album, too, which would be great. Yes. All right. So, before we go on to number six. So, we're almost halfway through? Yeah. What are we drinking? John, what did you bring us? I gotta put my glasses on.

01:47:34.320 --> 01:48:04.300
So this is from Driftwood Brewing. It's in our book. Extreme Guide to... Brewtruth Guide to Extreme Beers. Adam Tappad... Damn it, I fucked it up. Adam Tappadallan. Decibel. Decibel Magazine. Has anyone gotten more press than he has from us? I don't know, but... In this episode alone? No. Anyway... You're welcome. The beer is called Son of the Morning. And it's a strong Belgian ale. And the reason why...

01:48:04.340 --> 01:48:32.840
We bring this up as not just because it's in the book, but because Adam was kind enough to get these for us. Yeah, Adam sent it to us. We are indebted to him helping us finish as much of the book as we could. This has probably been aged for like two years now. No, it hasn't been that long. It's tasty, I'm sure. It hasn't been that long. Here, Jay, have a sip. I don't know. It's lovely. It's got some sweet, like bloody shit on the cover from some beast or whatever. Bloody shit they've been eating at Chipotle? Oh.

01:48:34.320 --> 01:49:03.580
Is that a personal experience? It's a sweet label. I love it. The brewery up in Canada, they had the label redesigned. I forget who. It's killing me who redesigned a label. It's a famous company up in Canada. I actually asked them to possibly do some stuff for the podcast and various breweries.

01:49:04.340 --> 01:49:04.620
too busy.

01:49:34.340 --> 01:50:03.760
No, don't go to college. You're not going to last long on a college campus in this country. That's why you got to teach those little fuckers something. A little fuckers. Fucking hippies. Anyway, what are we on? Number six. Number six, John. All right, so I know everyone else is a bigger fan of this genre than me. I do like Thrash, but the first time I heard this album, I was like, what the fuck? It was just, it reminded me so much of the 80s, obviously, but with a current day sound.

01:50:04.340 --> 01:50:33.300
They've got the coolest single I think right now that's been released with a video, which you don't see too much of. The band is Power Trip Nightmare Logic. Wow. Wow. Absolutely. Wow. Really? Wow? So you guys are the Thrash fans? I'm not a big fan. No, we just didn't think you would do it. I'm just more surprised that you like it. That you like it, yeah. I mean, I like Thrash. They're all right, but they just never really grabbed me by the cojones. It almost made my list, actually. All right, well, fuck you guys. I like them.

01:50:34.320 --> 01:51:04.280
I'm not dissing you for liking it. I actually really like the album. I'm just surprised that you did. No, I like Thrash. I just think it's kind of been there before. Kind of a genre for me now. But I just like these guys. There's a lot of energy. I think the production's really well. Yeah, and I think a lot of other people think the exact same thing. Champion Brewery down in Charlottesville, Virginia did a beer for these guys. I think it was a black lager. And there is a connection with all the bands we've talked with that are from the audience.

01:51:05.180 --> 01:51:32.880
I think there's one guy in Power Trip that's in either... What are the bands down there? Eternal Champion and... You're talking about Arthur? Yeah, but somebody else. There's a connection to all those bands. Swords down there. Yeah, so whatever. That's my number six. Fucking live with it. All right. No, I like it. I'm just more surprised you picked a straight-up thrash album. Oh, jeez. You know, I listen to more than just pro. Do you, John? Do you? Do you.

01:51:34.320 --> 01:52:04.280
All right. Well, my number six. Your number six. We've already talked about it. Ordos. House of the Dead. Yes. From Sweden. I love that album. I'm going there soon. But they are not. I'm going to Sweden. Yes. After Valken. After Valken, we're hitting up Copenhagen. Well, that would be Denmark. Are you going to Norway to visit your family? And Stockholm. No. Yeah, well, you got to go to Denmark. Screw my sister. She's in Norway.

01:52:04.340 --> 01:52:34.180
We're not going there. No. Well, originally she wasn't going to be there. So we skipped Norway. We were going to go to Finland. We were going to say hello to Yanni. Hello, Yanni. Hello. But you know what? Blame Iceland. We're going from Iceland to Germany to Denmark to Sweden. And then we were going to go to Finland. But Iceland is so goddamn expensive. I'm paying $400 a night for two nights in Iceland.

01:52:35.200 --> 01:53:04.280
It's a little out of the way, just to mention. Wait, why are you on Iceland, though? Because our flight is cheaper. We're taking Iceland there, and we're going through Iceland. It's a hub. We're stopping over to see it. Because Iceland's cool. It's a hub. Because it's so expensive there, and Copenhagen is also rather expensive, and so essentially we just couldn't afford to go. We were going to go to Helsinki as well and hook up with Jani, but we had to cut it. That's crap. Are you taking the train from Germany up to our country?

01:53:06.200 --> 01:53:34.280
Yes. After Wacken, I'm going to Berlin to meet my wife. And then from Berlin. Is it Mail Order Bride or something? While I'm at Wacken, she's going to Prague. Still on this side of the wall, dude. And then she's going to go to Berlin. I'm going to meet up with her there after Wacken. And then we're going to take the train up to Copenhagen. And then we're taking the train to Stockholm. And then we're flying from Stockholm back to Regan.

01:53:34.320 --> 01:53:37.940
Kiyavik in Iceland with a quick changeover back home.

01:53:38.180 --> 01:53:40.220
You're going to be really disappointed in Sweden because it's really boring.

01:53:40.640 --> 01:53:41.800
Well, we'll live there for like a day.

01:53:42.320 --> 01:53:45.500
But here's the reason I asked, dude, because you're about to have the weirdest experience,

01:53:45.780 --> 01:53:47.560
which is I actually took the train the other direction.

01:53:48.720 --> 01:53:58.340
And there's a place between Denmark and Germany where they actually put the train on a ferry.

01:53:59.040 --> 01:53:59.920
Oh, shut up.

01:54:00.200 --> 01:54:01.200
That's going to freak you out, dude.

01:54:01.500 --> 01:54:01.780
Trust me.

01:54:02.300 --> 01:54:02.420
Great.

01:54:02.500 --> 01:54:31.420
Yeah, you get out of one seat, and then you go up and sit in the ship for a while, and then off you go. It's totally weird, dude. It's a trip. Wild. Well, I'll talk about that a little more later, but excellent. All right, so we are to Jay for number six. All right, if you guys are shocked by anything, it'll be this, and you're all going to ask me why this is so low. Goat whore. What? Ridiculous. Unbelievable. Unbelievable.

01:54:32.520 --> 01:55:00.460
I thought that was going to be your number one. Well, just as a reputation alone, meaning I know I've talked this record up and I love it, but that's how much I like my top five right now. Wow, I'm completely at a loss. I really thought that was going to be your number one. Did Baby Mabel put out a new album? Am I missing something? All right, well, my number six, which is not as low as John's was, Fenn, Wintered.

01:55:01.840 --> 01:55:31.760
Yeah, but I expected John to be like, number six! And I had it higher than he did. Joke's on you, brother. I guess so. This is an episode of surprises. We're all letting each other down. Yes. All right, well, let's go back to John for number five. All right, so I had not heard this band until the last, I don't know, month or so. And I saw it on Jay's Bandcamp.

01:55:31.860 --> 01:56:00.440
that he had bought it. And I've seen the album cover ever since it came out. I was like, what is this? I don't want to listen. So I listened. I was like, what the fudge am I listening to? And that's Venerem, Trance of Death. That is a cool record. Oh my God, is it ever? Fuck. That is some good. It's not death metal. It's not prog metal. It's in between somewhere. And they just go all over the place. And it's heavy, but there's a lot of good atmospheric moments.

01:56:00.640 --> 01:56:29.700
I have not listened to it enough. It's one of those browsers I found, you know, where you're just kind of romping through. And I was like, and I don't even know what made me check it out. But yeah, I dig that too. That's a great record. When I saw you got it, I was like, okay, look, somebody, I haven't heard this from anybody. I figured Will might have listened to it, but because it has the death metal moniker, but. How do you spell it? V-E-N-E-N-U-M. But man, it's, it caught me by, it's clean as hell in terms of production.

01:56:30.660 --> 01:57:00.620
Yeah. Got a cool cover. I never even heard of these guys either. So this one was out of left field. Went back and got the first album. I was like, fuck, this is good too. So it's good. And they're, I believe, from Germany, if I'm not mistaken. I'll look them up while I'm there. I'll be like, hey, what's up? John likes you. I don't, I got, what is this? You weren't on my list, but John likes you. That's good enough. And J2. And J2, yeah. I think what we've learned from our list so far is that

01:57:00.640 --> 01:57:30.600
that outside of maybe like three albums we don't listen to anything we have no top five this year or top ten it's a top two yeah basically yeah all right well number five my number five we saw him at the decimal metal beer fest um guesses immolation yes wow immolation atonement this is a slow burner for me but man the more i listen to this record the more i loved it i mean it's just

01:57:30.620 --> 01:58:00.600
These guys have been around forever out of New York. Straight up death metal. But it's not just death metal for the sake of death metal and blast beats and how fast you can go and how guttural your vocals can go. It's very intelligent, well thought out, composed death metal. And it's a great album. Speaking of intelligent, thought out death metal. Are you done? Because I'm going to go on a tangent. All right. Oh, boy. Well, we were talking about liquid metal and how

01:58:00.620 --> 01:58:30.600
Basically shitty that station is. Because generally you turn on liquid metal and you hear 12 Foot Ninja and whatever stupid ridiculous shit that Jose Mangan is listening to. Label bands only. Yeah. With the exception of Ian Christie's stuff. Yeah, his stuff is awesome. I love his show. He's about the only one. Bloody Roots. Bloody Roots. He's about the only one they have Beyond the Pit. But out of the blue, I was in the car and they just

01:58:30.660 --> 01:59:00.600
just whipped out some death lack of comprehension and i was like what yeah an extreme metal station that doesn't play death go figure right yeah and it's like intelligent metal on liquid metal yeah all right anyway sorry carry on to jay where are we at number five i guess i could know what i said last um okay and i'm pretty sure i'm the only fan of this band on here but they're making better and better records kind of a funny bunch of guys but man the records are just top notch

01:59:00.620 --> 01:59:30.280
Trollfest. Hell of a. Saw that coming. It's great, dude. I love it. It took me a minute. The production's not quite up to snuff as the last two records, but once I wrote, and it's because there's so much happening. This must have been an impossible record in a mix. I love it, man. I can't wait till they come back on tour. Awesome. Had to get it in my top five. All right. Well, in my top five, not in certain other people's top five, is Goat Horror.

01:59:32.580 --> 01:59:59.500
Are you fucking kidding me? I'm glad you liked it that much. Yeah, man. That's awesome. Do you feel peer pressure to put that in your list? No, it's a whole band. Dude, I love that band. Just because I didn't think it was going to be in the year end, even if it wasn't on this list. Yeah, but it is that good. This is what happens when you get banned from tours. Do not let this guest in tonight.

02:00:00.620 --> 02:00:29.520
I got a phone call from Ben and he was like dude what the fuck and I was like dude put it in the top five you get triple A status and I was like dude and so there it is number five go to order wow beautiful yeah okay number four John all right I'm pretty sure no one will have this on their list pretty much like most of my list prog metal incoming yes fuck you guys

02:00:31.780 --> 02:00:32.820
13th Sun Stardust.

02:00:33.080 --> 02:00:34.540
Yeah, that's a nice listen.

02:00:35.080 --> 02:00:35.140
Yeah.

02:00:36.020 --> 02:00:37.060
I can't deny that.

02:00:37.280 --> 02:00:45.080
There's some minor Opethean moments on it, but not enough to make it sound like it's a clone album at all.

02:00:45.210 --> 02:00:45.660
Not even close.

02:00:46.140 --> 02:00:47.040
Isn't that a cool word?

02:00:47.620 --> 02:00:47.980
Opethean.

02:00:48.240 --> 02:00:48.380
Yeah.

02:00:48.440 --> 02:00:49.620
It sounds like Shakespearean.

02:00:49.940 --> 02:00:50.060
Yeah.

02:00:50.330 --> 02:00:51.620
But it's also totally legit.

02:00:51.770 --> 02:00:52.560
It gets used a lot.

02:00:52.840 --> 02:00:54.520
They are a bit of a genre unto themselves.

02:00:54.920 --> 02:00:55.280
Opethean.

02:00:55.370 --> 02:00:55.460
Yeah.

02:00:57.440 --> 02:00:58.340
So, it's good.

02:00:58.450 --> 02:00:58.880
I like it.

02:00:58.940 --> 02:01:28.900
What fart from yonder asshole breaks, Opetheon? Did you say asshole breaks? That was a fart. What fart from yonder asshole breaks? Wow. You made farting sound so... Aliquarian. Yeah, you did. I think I'll do it right now myself. Okay, maybe not. Okay, maybe not. Edit that out. Number four, Will. By the way, I resent the fact that when I say nobody has this unloved

02:01:28.940 --> 02:01:29.920
This is prog metal.

02:01:33.040 --> 02:01:33.740
Pretty seriously.

02:01:33.920 --> 02:01:35.160
You are a resident.

02:01:35.660 --> 02:01:36.840
This is what I love about the podcast.

02:01:37.660 --> 02:01:38.700
We all have our strengths.

02:01:39.740 --> 02:01:40.660
And our weaknesses.

02:01:43.160 --> 02:01:44.480
I'm not a big prog metal guy.

02:01:44.580 --> 02:01:45.120
You are.

02:01:45.260 --> 02:01:47.140
Despite listening to a lot of it, you don't realize it.

02:01:47.260 --> 02:01:51.920
I know, but I'm not a big black metal guy, but the rest of you make up for that.

02:01:53.080 --> 02:01:55.400
And you guys completely lack in your death metal.

02:01:55.740 --> 02:01:56.460
That's not true.

02:01:56.600 --> 02:01:57.260
And I bring it up.

02:01:57.650 --> 02:01:58.160
That's not true.

02:01:58.220 --> 02:02:27.920
I have two death metal so far. Speaking of none of which. I'll tell you my number four. Number four. Space Slug. Time Traveled Dilemma. That's not even death metal. I know. It's slug metal. It's nothing metal. It's just spacey doom. Yeah. Stoner Space Doom. That's cool stuff. So this is Jay. This is my other band from Poland. Okay. Yeah. Because I'm going to check them out. Yeah. And this is literally like if the doors.

02:02:29.340 --> 02:02:58.180
Like just put out a metal album. It's kind of hard to explain, but it's in the Doom genre. I said they're going to go on tour with Slug Jew. I also checked him out because Space Slug is a reference to Star Wars. That's right. Specifically Empire Strikes Back. Yeah, they're hard to describe because I don't want to say they have any Pink Floyd-y

02:02:58.220 --> 02:03:27.160
but they have that kind of spacey feel. No, exactly. No. And that's... Spacey, doors-y feel, too, at the same time. Yeah, that's what I like. It's the doors, Pink Floyd, meat, some doom metal. They're all over. Yeah, but it... Spacey, doom is the best way to describe them. If someone described that to me, even though I like the doors, I do like the Pink Floyd, if you described it to me, like, hey, you're going to love the sound, I'm like, nah. But no, I do. You're an idiot. Yeah. Well, I am an idiot. I think you played in Forrest in Philadelphia. What's that?

02:03:28.960 --> 02:03:31.640
I've been loving this album for a long time.

02:03:32.580 --> 02:03:34.020
I'm downloading it as we speak.

02:03:34.340 --> 02:03:40.760
Speaking of Pink Floyd, did you know, and I did not know this, that Shine On You Crazy Diamond is about Sid Barrett?

02:03:41.380 --> 02:03:41.580
Oh yeah.

02:03:42.200 --> 02:03:43.160
Yes, I've known that the whole time.

02:03:43.320 --> 02:03:45.620
He was actually there.

02:03:46.320 --> 02:03:51.040
Yeah, I read that. He walked in and nobody knew who he was because he was all fat and bald or something.

02:03:51.040 --> 02:03:53.840
And they recognized him, but they sort of didn't recognize him.

02:03:53.900 --> 02:03:55.580
And then when he left, they were like, I think that was Sid.

02:03:55.960 --> 02:03:56.920
And they never saw him again.

02:03:56.920 --> 02:03:57.480
Never saw him again.

02:03:57.960 --> 02:04:27.120
That is messed up. Have you seen those pictures of what he did look like? Because it was rough, dude. Yeah. Talk about a 180. I'm going to ask the question. Who's Sid? What? You don't know. Don't be too hard on him. There's a man called Pink Floyd. Founding member. He is the guy that I guess you could say David Gilmore eventually replaced because he came in when Sid was still there. Yeah. But he came in with a knowing. Schizophrenic. Crazy.

02:04:27.960 --> 02:04:28.280
Yeah.

02:04:28.570 --> 02:04:29.640
And so he took too much acid.

02:04:30.120 --> 02:04:30.240
Yeah.

02:04:30.340 --> 02:04:31.440
He couldn't continue.

02:04:31.860 --> 02:04:34.620
It's actually a shame that he couldn't play with David Gilmore in the band,

02:04:34.740 --> 02:04:36.980
at least for a little bit to produce new music.

02:04:37.200 --> 02:04:38.240
Cause that would have been something.

02:04:39.080 --> 02:04:39.140
Yeah.

02:04:39.470 --> 02:04:39.560
Yeah.

02:04:40.100 --> 02:04:41.100
It's only been five members.

02:04:42.040 --> 02:04:43.400
He's one of the original ones.

02:04:43.500 --> 02:04:43.600
So.

02:04:44.140 --> 02:04:44.760
And he's dead now.

02:04:45.080 --> 02:04:45.420
Unfortunately.

02:04:46.320 --> 02:04:46.460
Yeah.

02:04:48.140 --> 02:04:49.040
That's a terrible story,

02:04:49.070 --> 02:04:49.340
of course,

02:04:49.420 --> 02:04:50.880
but he's dead now.

02:04:51.640 --> 02:04:51.920
Sorry.

02:04:52.010 --> 02:04:52.660
I didn't mean to make it.

02:04:52.660 --> 02:04:55.920
But to bring up Wish You Were Here is just an unbelievable album.

02:04:57.080 --> 02:04:57.180
Yeah.

02:04:58.400 --> 02:04:59.040
All right.

02:05:01.120 --> 02:05:02.060
Who did what last?

02:05:03.180 --> 02:05:03.560
I'm lost.

02:05:03.720 --> 02:05:04.000
Will.

02:05:04.280 --> 02:05:06.280
I just did Space Slug.

02:05:06.320 --> 02:05:06.940
Space Slug.

02:05:08.020 --> 02:05:10.380
Which means that Jay is up next for number four.

02:05:11.880 --> 02:05:13.660
Woad, Servants of the Countercosmos.

02:05:13.960 --> 02:05:14.520
Oh, yes.

02:05:15.380 --> 02:05:16.040
It was so good.

02:05:16.320 --> 02:05:17.300
I just love that record.

02:05:18.080 --> 02:05:18.480
Yes.

02:05:19.020 --> 02:05:19.180
Right on.

02:05:19.360 --> 02:05:21.060
I'm not going to give any more comments.

02:05:21.140 --> 02:05:22.460
I think that's been on a...

02:05:22.480 --> 02:05:23.460
Who else has mentioned that already?

02:05:23.460 --> 02:05:23.820
I had it.

02:05:23.880 --> 02:05:52.200
You just said you're not going to give any more comments. That's all I have to say about that. I'm not going to say anything more about this. But I really, really like it. I think it's been spoken about already. I had it, yeah. I think I'm the only one. He had it at like, what, nine or something like that? Nine, yeah. Way down the bottom of his list. Sheesh. It's so good. I've got a good vinyl. You know what John said prophetically. Oh, yeah. I thought it might be hot. I honestly thought when we get to our top five, we're going to have more in common than our lower numbers. All right. Well, my number four,

02:05:53.880 --> 02:06:23.780
is Farsot. Failure. Such a good album. Such a good album. I love it. So there you go. It's good. Listen to it. Buy it. Check it out. I recommend it. All right. Before we get into our number three. Yes. What are we drinking? We have Divine Blasphemer. Oh, that's beautiful. Smoked Porter. Which is a metal beer tribute to.

02:06:23.880 --> 02:06:53.560
Anyone? Anyone? Divine Blasphemer? Divine Blasphemer? Divine Blasphemer? Oh, Slayer? I don't know. I don't know. Divine Blasphemer. Municipal Waste Fuck Faces. How is that? All right. How is that Municipal Waste? So let's just poo-poo his answer. No, really. I'm like, well, I mean, the title doesn't lead me to the band. Is there a song called that?

02:06:53.860 --> 02:07:23.840
Let me read it to you. Thank you. Thank you. God, I can't believe I'm friends. Fucking guys. Brewed with Richmond, Virginia's thrash metal kings, municipal ways, divine blasts where combines the sacred art of brewing with waste, waste, profiling attitude to create it, to create a crossover masterpiece. This porter is smoking, roasted, yet balanced and approachable, making it perfect beer for this, for the sanity and the satanic

02:07:25.020 --> 02:07:53.840
the saintly and the satanic alike. Municipal Waste is not a satanic band. No. Anyway, I believe they have a song called. Divine Blast for Me? Yes. Okay, see, I didn't know that. I thought other songs were about drinking. I'm bringing you metal beer. Yeah. No, I'm cool. And Dave Witte, Dave Witte drummer in Municipal Waste, is by far the biggest liaison

02:07:53.880 --> 02:08:23.840
Ambassador of Craft Beer and Heavy Metal. As a musician? I will not deny that. As a musician, right? Yeah. I just didn't get the connection. He's big time. Cheers. Yeah. Cheers to them and to Cigar City. And I'm a fan of Cigar City. Nice. Yeah. Yeah. Very good. Just take all your negative vibes, shove it right up your ass. It was not a negative vibe. I was just trying to get it.

02:08:23.900 --> 02:08:53.060
Trying to make the connection. They weren't so negative, I'll tell you that. That's a good beer. I'm going to do a brew heads on that. Thank you. I'll email Dave and get his input. Right on. Right on, right on. Okay, so number three, John. All right, they've been mentioned twice already before, so maybe we might actually have a top five from our top ten. Eleven. Eleven. Woed, servants. Oh, there they are.

02:08:53.880 --> 02:09:23.700
Cosmos. Nice. There's just something about this. The only negative on this album, just one more song. Yeah, one more song would be nice. You're right. It's almost an EP. It's like Rain and Blood. But it's just got this kind of, George said it, he's like, this has kind of got a rock feel a little bit to it. But it's black metal. There's something interesting in every song. Especially that Celestial Dagger, the second song, the way that kind of feedback starts and it kicks in. That's a killer riff.

02:09:23.740 --> 02:09:52.560
You just expect the fucking pit to break out and everyone who's not even a black metal fan to start headbanging during that song. Agreed, dude. That was one of the things I pictured. I mean, it's just that moment. And every time in the car, it just fucking amps out my, it maxes out my speakers every time. Will, you might actually like this album. I think you will. Have you listened to it? Yeah, I heard it. I listened to it. I just, it's one of those things that it was in the box. Yeah. And I listened to it a couple times and I just didn't. It didn't just grab you. Yeah, yeah.

02:09:53.720 --> 02:10:23.700
way, but there's a couple albums that you've all mentioned that I've heard, that I've liked, but I just haven't spent time with them. That's most of my list, actually, of stuff that you guys have that I haven't spent time with. Yeah, agreed. You know, I think it's funny how we talk about albums being short, like Rain and Blood, how it was on both sides of the cassette. And it's like 29 minutes. And we're kind of spoiled now, because

02:10:23.720 --> 02:10:26.100
of bands like Thross and Blot and

02:10:27.520 --> 02:10:29.900
Fan that have really long albums.

02:10:31.120 --> 02:10:31.740
But back in

02:10:32.200 --> 02:10:33.880
before CDs, albums

02:10:34.050 --> 02:10:35.200
were not that long.

02:10:35.960 --> 02:10:37.700
You know, it was pretty common

02:10:37.790 --> 02:10:40.260
that bands would have four songs on a side

02:10:40.820 --> 02:10:42.200
and they were radio songs

02:10:42.380 --> 02:10:43.860
so they were like three minutes each

02:10:44.360 --> 02:10:45.720
so that's like 24 minutes

02:10:45.850 --> 02:10:47.780
as an album and that's like no big deal.

02:10:47.920 --> 02:10:49.880
Scary thing is this Wode album's longer than most

02:10:50.020 --> 02:10:51.320
Van Halen's first four albums.

02:10:51.760 --> 02:11:21.700
And I remember years ago, we've been doing this for a while, but you discounted a couple albums. Like, oh, it's an EP, it's only four songs. But like, well, what if those four songs are like 30 minutes or 45 minutes long? And you have more music than some. That's my cutoff for EPs is 30 minutes. If it's 30 minutes or more as an EP, then I'm putting it on my list. Yeah, it makes sense. You're right to bring that up because I was wrong on the podcast.

02:11:21.760 --> 02:11:49.800
I was wrong. You were wrong. Yeah, I know. I admit it. I know. I know. You think I am perfect. I am the god of metal. But no, I do have thoughts. I don't think it. Sometimes. Nobody thinks that. I know it. All right. Number three. Number three. This was mentioned before by Jay from Poland. Wow. Dope Lord. Dope Lord. Oh, nice.

02:11:52.840 --> 02:12:21.720
Donors. Cool. Yeah. Well, you had said you listened to it a lot when it came out, so I'm glad that it stuck with you. No, it absolutely did. And I just absolutely love this album. Awesome. Love it. Check it out. I agree with you. It's a good album. Jay. This one I owe to John, and it's making a lot of lists here today, but it's my favorite record that John told me about this year, and it stuck

02:12:21.760 --> 02:12:51.720
with me like the dope lord did orders house of the dead oh yeah wow oh i think we just maybe found close to our number one one of them i'm the dickhead that's not gonna make the perfect don't worry i'm a dickhead too this year trust me i am i didn't mention woad you guys all mentioned woad so far yeah so there's gonna be a bunch of threes yeah that's fine hey we can have all the threes we want that gets a list for us yeah yeah yeah well my top three nobody's gonna have hey menage a trois better than a big gangbang anyway right yeah yeah

02:12:52.180 --> 02:13:21.440
Is it my turn? It's like Discovery and Plutonium by accident. For you Seinfeld fans. Yes. Is it me? Yes. Number three for George. Number three. Number three. I really wish people liked this album more. This is one of those albums we were talking about earlier where I was like, I looked up the reviews and everybody's like, it's a six or a seven. No, it's a number three. God damn it. Mord Astigmata and Hope. Freaking love this album.

02:13:21.500 --> 02:13:50.800
In fact, for the longest time, this was my number one. It is a killer album. It's minimalist, I think. It's very... It's not terribly complicated. There's a lot of air in this. It's like if you put on the headphones, there's a lot of space in these songs. I kind of like that sometimes. And I'm like, wow. It's simple but good. They make the notes count. I really love that album. I'll check it out. Yeah. Definitely.

02:13:50.880 --> 02:14:20.680
I know it's not the same vibe, George, but that's one thing I think about the Farsight record. I feel like there's a little space in it to move around. Sure. It's not overwhelming somehow, sonically. Yeah, that's true. All right. I guess we are on to John number two. The big number two. You had to say that, Jay. Uh-oh. Number two. Farsight. Farsight. Yeah, awesome. Yeah. This was my number one for the longest time. Yeah.

02:14:20.860 --> 02:14:50.420
And it only got out just because of the album that I have at number one was something that caught me off guard. I'm at a loss to think of what your number one might be. Good. That's the way it's supposed to be. I didn't have Steel Panther put out a new album. Motherfucker had to bring him up. It came up last night. Listen, Stone Sour's album came out in July. You can't include it. I wouldn't include it if it was out.

02:14:50.880 --> 02:14:51.420
Whenever

02:14:52.980 --> 02:14:53.700
Cruel bastard

02:14:54.280 --> 02:14:54.440
Wait

02:14:55.020 --> 02:14:55.120
Wait

02:14:55.520 --> 02:14:55.660
Quick

02:14:55.920 --> 02:14:56.540
Get Blabbermouth

02:14:56.610 --> 02:14:57.480
And ask Corey Taylor

02:14:57.780 --> 02:14:59.040
What he thinks about this podcast

02:15:00.240 --> 02:15:01.580
It's gonna say podcasts

02:15:02.800 --> 02:15:03.780
Then he say something like that

02:15:03.810 --> 02:15:04.480
About Stone Sour

02:15:04.540 --> 02:15:05.000
Yeah fuck

02:15:05.320 --> 02:15:06.700
It's worth the future of rock

02:15:06.880 --> 02:15:07.320
So be it

02:15:07.380 --> 02:15:08.080
It tastes like a style

02:15:08.240 --> 02:15:09.080
Sounds like a podcast

02:15:09.660 --> 02:15:10.020
Look

02:15:10.120 --> 02:15:11.200
I don't have any issue

02:15:11.300 --> 02:15:12.000
With him personally

02:15:12.180 --> 02:15:12.580
Or his music

02:15:12.640 --> 02:15:13.400
I just don't like his music

02:15:13.580 --> 02:15:13.920
But god

02:15:14.040 --> 02:15:15.140
I'm fucking seeing him

02:15:15.210 --> 02:15:16.820
In my fucking Twitter feed

02:15:16.860 --> 02:15:17.160
On my

02:15:17.500 --> 02:15:18.200
My tweet deck

02:15:18.680 --> 02:15:19.200
Constantly every day

02:15:19.380 --> 02:15:20.840
Because I have Blabbermouth

02:15:20.860 --> 02:15:50.340
The People magazine of metal. He's over quoted. Overly quoted. Anyway, back to the far side. It's just, there's something about that album. Something about you and... They end the album with an instrumental. But the instrumental is really cool. Where are they from? I believe they are from Germany? I think. I think you might be right. I got the Google machine. Keep talking amongst yourselves. And they're considered black metal, but again,

02:15:50.920 --> 02:16:20.340
And I wouldn't call them progressive black metal-like and slave. They're different. They're a little avant-garde, but they're just different. The pieces are extended out a little bit, but the production, I thought, on this album was very good. Yes, for sure. Yeah, they are German. Germany's kind of kicking up the notch, too, with the black and death metal right now. I've always been a big fan of German metal, ever since the 80s. Right, but German metal used to always be kind of power, Judas Priest-influence type metal.

02:16:20.360 --> 02:16:49.219
They're running wild. Yeah. Except. Yeah. Halloween. But they're venturing out a little more now, which I like better. They were big in the prog metal scene in the 90s. Huge. Jay and I have a band from Germany we like a lot in prog metal. Vandemplass. I like those. I started reading the Damn the Machine, the story of noise records. Yeah. It's interesting. I've read the beginning of the book is very off topic.

02:16:50.340 --> 02:17:17.040
It's all about how the guy who started Noise was basically a terrorist. He was a German political terrorist, spent a year and a half in jail. Then he got out and started doing these punk things, the political punk stuff. Eventually, punk stopped selling, and so he moved on to metal. That's where I am right now. So setting aside their early history, is it crazy how many bands come from that label?

02:17:20.360 --> 02:17:49.099
Although I will say, in the 80s, if it had noise on it, I bought it. Isn't that crazy? Because it was like Raven, Running Wild, Creator, whatever. It was like anything that was on noise was gold as far as I was concerned. And so, yeah. I have a, I have a meaning to say too, I have a gripe though with the Creator reissues, which was they did that thing they sometimes do where they fuck with the cover just a little bit by putting a frame around it or whatever.

02:17:49.200 --> 02:17:55.139
I hate it's so stupid dude it's the dumbest thing about those reissues

02:17:57.480 --> 02:18:00.340
are you talking about it on LPs because you want to frame them or

02:18:00.550 --> 02:18:02.460
no they put a little frame around the

02:18:03.439 --> 02:18:03.880
original

02:18:04.420 --> 02:18:06.040
it encroaches upon the artwork

02:18:07.079 --> 02:18:09.280
so it actually covers it up or shrinks it

02:18:09.280 --> 02:18:10.360
and puts the frame around it

02:18:10.429 --> 02:18:12.580
no they put a frame like the atheist

02:18:12.820 --> 02:18:13.880
I think they shrink it

02:18:14.800 --> 02:18:16.160
what the fuck

02:18:16.900 --> 02:18:18.540
that's such a stupid thing to do

02:18:18.979 --> 02:18:48.519
It's probably some sort of legal thing that they need to do to show you that it's a reissue. Who knows? Maybe, yeah. It might be. Yeah, it might be. They changed the color just enough to make it slightly different. Yeah. Well, what do you got for us? Number two. Number two. Number two. Number two. Number two. I gotta take a deuce. Oh. X-Dio, The Immortal Wars. Yes, I love that album. Dude. It's a good album. I forgot about that. I am a...

02:18:49.339 --> 02:19:18.360
I said this before. Yeah, I'm a sucker for historical stuff, especially the Roman Empire. They throw the elephants in there a little bit. I actually like that a lot. It's a whole concept album about Hannibal. And it's one of the guys from Cataclysm. Yeah, from Canada. Apparently this was a dead side project for him and then brought it back. And holy shit, it's good. And it's not, I will say, this is not the typical metal that I listen to. This is very symphonic.

02:19:19.519 --> 02:19:47.800
It's symphonic, but not the symphonic gothic side. It's a little more like flesh god-ish. Yeah, yeah. It reminds me a lot of flesh god, yeah. I was going to say the same thing, George, and the cover is kind of like the last flesh god of Hockclips, too. Yeah, it is. Yeah, but it reminds me of them. Yeah, so I did not, and maybe it's a historical aspect of it, because I've read quite a few books about the ancient Roman Empire, especially across the Rubicon, which is a fantastic book.

02:19:48.540 --> 02:20:18.520
And I believe this story is about Hannibal, right? Yeah, it's about Hannibal. Which is an awesome story to begin with. Yeah, so... But there is just something, whether it's the production of it, the way the songs flow, all the interludes, the elephants... I love it....trumpeting, like, oh, God. Production. And, you know, it's not a super long album, but it's just enough to get the story... Yeah, and it's still... It's still epic. It's epic in the robot song. No, it is. It is epic. And I'm assuming you love it so much, John, that it's not even going to be on

02:20:18.560 --> 02:20:48.340
your honorable mentions. No, it's great. I was just going to say it to you. It's one of those albums that I still need to give more time to to see if I really want it to fall in my top albums. No, and I get it because I've heard you guys name numerous albums. I've liked them for a long time, but it just wasn't on my radar. I mean, I dig it. I really do. And I knew this would come up. I knew it would come up. You're like, well, you like it so much, why is it on your list? It's just one of those ones that I'm reserving judgment on still. I know, and I get it. Because it's going to fall on my list.

02:20:48.560 --> 02:21:17.940
at some point. All right, Jay, number two. I wanted to believe this might be visible to others, and I don't think it is, but Sergei gives me every Ukrainian thing that comes down the pike. Oh, yeah. Oh, I know you're going to say it. No, that's not true. He doesn't, but this is still brilliant. This record. So explain who Sergei is. Oh, I'm sorry. Sergei being the bass player of Catonic Society. Your band. We give each other music, and we're probably both like 50% of what the other guy gives them. This is one where he knocked it out of the park.

02:21:19.080 --> 02:21:47.860
Nocturnal Mortem, Verity. Yes, that is a great album. I really considered knocking some shit around to put this on my list. But you didn't. I didn't, just because I was tired of moving my list around it just so hard. But it will definitely be on my year-end list. No, and that's the math I'm doing, too. I mean, when we got 20, some of these things that I really wanted to put on can go on. But this one was top-notch.

02:22:10.859 --> 02:22:15.200
I don't know what I'm saying. I don't know what I'm saying.

02:22:19.600 --> 02:22:48.320
The High Heat Licks Against Heaven. I wonder where that was going to pop up. Knittinger or Nadinger. I don't know how it's pronounced. Knittinger or Nadinger. I like to say Nadinger. You were really big on them when you told me about them. Oh, it's a great album. You were like, you've got to get on this shit. I liked it. Straight up black metal, but good. I mean, not black metal is bad, but it's just really good. The cover, so much calls to mind with that Cycloptic cover to me,

02:22:48.400 --> 02:23:17.920
which is not a negative comment, but it's just, yeah, it's like a mix between those two covers. It's like a Scandinavian type of art. Yeah, it's cool. I like it. Yeah. All right. All right. We're going to take a quick break before number one. All right. We are back. Before we do our number one, we're going to talk about our beer that we will be drinking before number one, except for Jay. So, do you have a beer yet? I'm sorry. It's like 1.30 in the afternoon.

02:23:18.380 --> 02:23:48.300
Come on, Jesus. We were drinking at 1.30 here. I know, I know, I know. We're drinking at noon. Yeah. I have a chance to still be productive with this day. Oh, we're being productive, trust me. No, no, yeah, you are, you are. All right, so... Joy Theory? Yes, no, I'm trying to read the label because... Love of the Damned. Yes, but if you look at the label, it's kind of got a little bit of a metal-ish feel in terms of hard to read, but it's called Love of the Damned. It's an old ale, like Will said at Joy Theory.

02:23:48.380 --> 02:24:17.300
And I believe it's Ghost 429, if I'm not mistaken. If you were in this area, you know what that means. That's the way they label the beers. Old Ale, I've not had this before. Have you guys? No. I don't know if I have. And I've had a lot of Adroit theories. Adroit theories basically is like Ocelot in the sense that you can have a beer once and never have it again. Because they just keep making new beers. Although Ocelot's a little better, I think, about redoing some of their beers, which I'm very happy for because some of their IPAs are outstanding.

02:24:17.980 --> 02:24:24.980
But I suggested this beer today because I believe we will see them at Decibel Fest 2.

02:24:25.530 --> 02:24:25.620
Yes.

02:24:25.620 --> 02:24:26.060
From what we understand.

02:24:26.080 --> 02:24:26.820
Oh, you will.

02:24:27.040 --> 02:24:27.440
I won't.

02:24:27.520 --> 02:24:28.620
Well, I know Will and I are going.

02:24:30.040 --> 02:24:32.400
Jay, you got a free weekend at the beginning of April?

02:24:32.740 --> 02:24:33.500
Come on down, brother.

02:24:34.240 --> 02:24:34.700
You know what?

02:24:34.960 --> 02:24:36.500
If we started to plan it now, I could.

02:24:36.740 --> 02:24:37.280
Come on down.

02:24:37.460 --> 02:24:39.260
Just stay until Death Fest.

02:24:39.460 --> 02:24:39.880
Don't, man.

02:24:40.220 --> 02:24:44.960
I would like very much to have been part of that one this year, and that would be a great

02:24:45.110 --> 02:24:45.680
excuse to come out there.

02:24:46.440 --> 02:24:49.640
I'm not going to be there because my wife's birthday is on the first day.

02:24:51.499 --> 02:24:53.880
Although she's telling me, oh, well, you can still go.

02:24:53.980 --> 02:24:57.420
I'm like, that's like the go ahead and do it and see what happens.

02:24:57.760 --> 02:25:00.400
So guess what happens?

02:25:00.630 --> 02:25:01.400
Ten more years of marriage.

02:25:01.530 --> 02:25:02.000
Who cares?

02:25:02.120 --> 02:25:06.600
So we're going to try to work it out so that George is still a hero and still gets to go to the festival.

02:25:06.740 --> 02:25:07.560
And not a zero.

02:25:08.000 --> 02:25:08.840
We'll see what happens.

02:25:09.180 --> 02:25:09.520
I don't know.

02:25:10.100 --> 02:25:13.020
You come up and you celebrate a birthday there and then you come to the show the next day.

02:25:13.620 --> 02:25:14.580
We'll figure it out.

02:25:14.940 --> 02:25:15.620
We'll get it figured out.

02:25:15.640 --> 02:25:16.140
We'll see.

02:25:16.220 --> 02:25:45.340
I mean, it's going to cost George a shit ton of money to do this. You know, we make jokes about wives and stuff, and she is really totally behind this podcast. Very, very supportive of all the stuff that we do. So don't, you know, if I'm not there because of her birthday, it's because I have decided.

02:26:14.779 --> 02:26:16.180
Yeah.

02:26:16.200 --> 02:26:17.580
a shit storm for us.

02:26:19.000 --> 02:26:19.100
Yeah.

02:26:20.540 --> 02:26:21.320
It was a shit storm already.

02:26:21.320 --> 02:26:23.060
I don't think Atlas will be there this year.

02:26:23.540 --> 02:26:25.660
However, I don't know how this podcast will be.

02:26:26.440 --> 02:26:27.860
It'll actually be easier to actually get interviews.

02:26:27.860 --> 02:26:31.600
All we need to make sure is that we have our wristbands again so we can go see whatever

02:26:31.820 --> 02:26:33.460
guest is showing up in the upstairs room.

02:26:33.760 --> 02:26:33.940
Yeah.

02:26:34.380 --> 02:26:34.880
That was awesome.

02:26:35.040 --> 02:26:35.660
Which was awesome.

02:26:37.160 --> 02:26:37.840
Number ones.

02:26:38.020 --> 02:26:38.800
Number one, John.

02:26:43.140 --> 02:26:44.980
You seem so disappointed by your number one.

02:26:44.980 --> 02:26:45.420
Not at all.

02:26:45.540 --> 02:27:14.020
I'm trying to think of how to best describe this album real quick without taking too much time. So I got this one from George. Oh, hey. Avant-garde folk metal. Blackish. You got the metal part right. It better be metal. It's for me, so it could be whatever. So I will say this. They're a local band. Oh, wow. I don't have too many local bands on my list. Wow, I know who it is.

02:27:15.520 --> 02:27:43.960
These guys, I've heard them before, and I was reacquainted with them. I did not realize that you did not let on that you were this into them. That's why they're my number one. Wow. I kept a secret. If you are a fan of Death or Cynic, you would like these guys. The lead singer, Max Phelps, plays with Death to All. He's their singer right now. Does the band exist? And the album is called So True, So Bound.

02:27:43.960 --> 02:27:46.700
It is off the fucking charts awesome

02:27:46.880 --> 02:27:47.820
It really is

02:27:47.960 --> 02:27:49.200
It's a combination

02:27:50.140 --> 02:27:52.060
I would say it's a modern day cynic almost

02:27:52.480 --> 02:27:55.940
It's got the fusion jazz prog metal thing going

02:27:55.990 --> 02:27:58.100
but it's fucking death metal on top of that

02:27:58.240 --> 02:27:58.940
What's the name of the album?

02:27:59.380 --> 02:28:01.360
The album is called So True So Bound

02:28:02.360 --> 02:28:04.040
I'm buying it because it's your number one

02:28:04.460 --> 02:28:07.920
And it has that traditional fusion guitar sound

02:28:08.030 --> 02:28:10.080
that strum that's very distinctive

02:28:10.760 --> 02:28:12.820
His vocals are so good

02:28:12.840 --> 02:28:42.800
He sounds like Chuck in certain parts. He really does. And I can see why he came on after. I think Matt Harvey was there for a while, wasn't he, with Deathdoll for a little bit? Yeah. I don't think so. I thought he was. I think it was. If he was, I don't know. I think he was in between. I think he was there for a little bit. Because it was the, I don't know

02:28:42.840 --> 02:29:12.380
But now, Max Phelps is saying, he's just outstanding. Max is outstanding. The first time around, the death to all, tribute to death, when he came around, I have to say, it was not very good. Second time around. They've gotten much better. Way, way better. But I think it's not a detriment to Max. I think it's a holy crap, Chuck was that good. Yeah. That Max could not play. But he's a kid, too.

02:29:12.820 --> 02:29:41.980
Max could not play like Chuck could play. Chuck Schoeninger, the lead singer of Death Who Died. We're all talking about. But Chuck, Max could not play and sing like Chuck could play and sing. Chuck was that fucking good. Is that good? Yeah. But I will say Matt Harvey, holy crap. Matt Harvey is amazing. Expulsion, hello. Yeah, he's only been around for a while. No, but I mean he, it's almost like Chuck never died. Yeah, well, the thing that's nice about Death to All is that they're all former.

02:29:43.439 --> 02:30:12.280
They've all played with them at some point. And this is not the Dio thing. There's no squabbling over which band is the true Dio tribute band. These guys, they interchange musicians. And it's cool. They see Giorgio's on there. Yeah, and there's no issue. At least it doesn't seem like it. But anyway, if you like all that, you like Old Cynic from the first album, which is going back, you like Death. Fuck us. Give these guys a spin, man. And they're local. I'd love to get them on at some point. Yeah, that would be very cool.

02:30:12.300 --> 02:30:41.780
The other guitarists and basses are phenomenal players. They're excellent players. There's a reason why I didn't say a word about that album after you mentioned it to me. I was like, fuck. I am fired up by your excitement. And I'm the one that told you about it. And then I said, oh, I know these guys. I've listened to them a couple years back. I just forgot about them. Oh, and a throw out to my friend Jeff, who I think you've met. He saw them with Gorguts.

02:30:42.280 --> 02:31:11.420
Literally, as their first song, he's like, who the fuck is this band, Exist? And the rest of the time they played, I was just one text up, these guys are fucking amazing. He ended up talking to them afterwards and loving them. It's good to hear that somebody who never heard them actually liked them that much. All right. Exist. Do it. Will. My number one. Jay was wrong. George was right. After being wrong the first time.

02:31:12.300 --> 02:31:42.200
Creator, God of Violence. It's pretty great. It is really good. And I have to say that when this first came out, I was a little hesitant because I hold... He didn't like Satan is Real. Yeah. I just felt it was a little campy and stuff. Oh, I like that song. I think that's actually a pretty good song. It is. I do, but there's parts of it I thought it was campy, and I still kind of do. But if you look at the whole body, and that was the first single and everything, that's where my frame of reference was for the new album. But when you look at the whole body of this album,

02:31:42.280 --> 02:32:12.260
It's an absolutely amazing album. And it's going to take a lot, a lot to knock this off my number one. This was on my list originally. Me too. I knocked it off mostly because... You guys suck. Because it was such a big band. Thank you. I know. We had this discussion. We did. This is where you and I agree with... I can see where you're coming from, but I disagree with you. If it was like...

02:32:12.300 --> 02:32:42.260
was like a throst and blot type. It was just like, wow, this is so different from Creator and so awesome. You don't want Creator to be different. Creator is awesome. No, Creator is awesome. It's just... Like I said, it was on my list and I just kept moving it down because I'm like, I like this newer band. It's a lame excuse. It really is. It is. It's a terrible fucking excuse to make yourself feel more important by acting

02:32:43.340 --> 02:33:11.520
A Smaller Band. It's not making me a full more important. It's me wanting to cover bands that need the coverage more. I was like, Creator is not going to benefit from me talking about it. No, they're not. But if you think it's a great album, you list it. I do. But again, I like it, but I like Metallica. And I didn't like that either. You know? They're so mad they're getting naked. It's like, Creator,

02:33:11.560 --> 02:33:40.100
I like Ocelot like I like Budweiser. I like Creator, but they are an institution. They really are. But it's a good institution. It is. I like it. It doesn't suck. It doesn't suck. So you watch. It's going to be his number one for the year end. Yeah. I'm going to be like, my number one is, come here, Will. Hold on. It's taking a little longer, I thought. Wow. That's deeper than I thought.

02:33:41.580 --> 02:33:42.520
It really was

02:33:42.700 --> 02:33:42.940
But yeah

02:33:43.400 --> 02:33:43.540
Alright

02:33:43.900 --> 02:33:45.460
Watch is gonna name creator

02:33:45.620 --> 02:33:46.020
Individier

02:33:46.479 --> 02:33:48.520
Well I'm gonna see them at Valken

02:33:48.660 --> 02:33:49.000
So

02:33:49.420 --> 02:33:51.160
It could totally change my point of view

02:33:51.959 --> 02:33:52.760
I agree

02:33:53.000 --> 02:33:54.200
I see where you're coming from

02:33:56.840 --> 02:33:58.000
If we could talk about

02:33:58.280 --> 02:33:59.220
It's a technicality

02:33:59.300 --> 02:33:59.880
Is what it is

02:34:00.080 --> 02:34:01.660
It's a weird technicality

02:34:01.760 --> 02:34:02.860
Just like this last

02:34:03.380 --> 02:34:05.060
Huge long discussion we had

02:34:05.180 --> 02:34:05.960
That's gonna be cut from this

02:34:06.040 --> 02:34:06.860
And you guys will never hear

02:34:06.860 --> 02:34:07.180
However

02:34:07.880 --> 02:34:08.980
I see where you're coming from

02:34:09.760 --> 02:34:10.660
But you're wrong

02:34:11.439 --> 02:34:40.540
I like that. This is starting to feel like couples therapy. I hear what you're communicating. No, and I do not disagree with what you're saying. I understand that I'm making a choice based on the way I feel about something, but I agree it is an insanely credible album. I feel like either Jay or I have to be Bob Eubanks right now. I'm going to just summarize what George said and just tell you,

02:34:42.520 --> 02:35:09.380
It is. It is. It's good. So hold on. So I'm done. Before we go to Jay, what are we drinking? John, you brought this. We already talked about it. All right. Jay. Love it again. That's right. Hold on. I don't know if you're recording at this point. And there you go. I'll leave them recording the whole time. In keeping with, there's almost no chance that any of us has the same number one. Mine is one that people probably, I don't even know who knows. I know George. Oh, I know what it is.

02:35:10.600 --> 02:35:39.520
Yeah. I do. I think. Who guessed that? Will. I don't want to say it, but I think I know. Say it. I just said it. George just guessed it. How'd you know Will? S-L-A-E-G-T. Dumbest Mysterium. Oh, okay. I didn't know it. I love it. It's like, and this is not why I like it, but it's sort of like Kretis, but with a death vocal. And it's just, I'm completely engaged by this whole record from start to finish. We need a new Kretis record. Not surprised it's not anybody else that's right in my wheelhouse. I just love this thing.

02:35:40.000 --> 02:36:08.680
How did you know that, Will? How did you guess that? Because you've talked about it before and how much you loved it. It's like fucking rocket science. I don't even know if I have that. I mean, I've heard of it, but I don't know if I've listened to it or not. I have so much to listen to in the next couple of weeks. That's the best part of these lists. I think you guys will love the shit out of it. It's great. We've had a four-way going for like months now, and you've talked about it incessantly.

02:36:08.740 --> 02:36:38.700
No, I remember Jay talking about it, but I still don't know if I've listened to it much. I haven't listened to it. I honestly thought I only talked to George about it, but it's right up. I'm convinced all three of you will think very highly of it if you haven't listened to it. I will think very highly of it then. It was in the box, right? I don't know. It was in the box. I think it was in the box. Damn! Yeah, I've heard it. Oh, yeah! Sorry, Alan, Mike. I think we're going under the...

02:36:38.740 --> 02:37:06.640
I think we're under the underpass right now. Yeah. Yeah. Under the bridge downtown. Oh, boy. All right. One of us is going to have to take over the podcast going forward. George. It doesn't bother me at all that I might be turning you guys on to this and that nobody else. Hey, you always turn me on. I didn't mean to turn you on. George, number one. Does anybody have a guess? No.

02:37:08.740 --> 02:37:38.700
I'll put out a new album. Thross and Sausage. Thross and Sausage. No, I don't know, George. I can't even imagine what it is. Number one, Tombs, The Grand Annihilation. That's a shocker. It's good. I liked it. I need more time with this one. Same here. While this is my number one and I love it to death, I can't guarantee it's going to be there at the end of the year. I feel that way, too.

02:37:38.740 --> 02:38:07.920
2 through 11. I think Exist has a chance for me, but I think this has been our thing. A lot of number 2s. Yeah. Agreed. I think my list is highly debatable for the rest of the year. Well, there it is. You guys all gave me some new stuff to listen to, but we also had a lot of common ground there, too. Yeah. I actually think we do have a top 5 from our top 11. Can we do some honorable mentions and or dishonorable disappointments? Yes, we can. Start with John.

02:38:08.720 --> 02:38:10.540
All in order.

02:38:12.080 --> 02:38:15.700
These are in order of alphabetical.

02:38:15.880 --> 02:38:16.720
Mine are alphabetical too.

02:38:16.920 --> 02:38:20.240
And trust me, I don't think I actually put XDO on here.

02:38:21.080 --> 02:38:22.260
I still like that album a lot.

02:38:22.460 --> 02:38:24.320
There's a lot I didn't include that I like.

02:38:25.240 --> 02:38:26.600
I'm not sucking them off, trust me.

02:38:26.740 --> 02:38:28.580
He has to because I've got to drive them home.

02:38:29.279 --> 02:38:31.480
Dude, that's at, what, Myon Walker 22?

02:38:33.560 --> 02:38:33.860
All right.

02:38:34.620 --> 02:38:35.200
All in order.

02:38:35.840 --> 02:38:37.560
Just because I've listened to these the most.

02:38:38.540 --> 02:39:08.320
Archivist Construct. It's actually pretty good, I think. An album I need to listen to more that's gotten a lot of traction across the board from a lot of sites, Arian, the source. I don't know if you guys probably haven't listened to it. My guess is you haven't. I'm familiar, but I have not listened. It's the typical Prague space opera stuff, but it's actually very good. This one, Will, just went on and on and on and fucking on and on about. So I gave it a listen. It's good.

02:39:09.000 --> 02:39:38.440
Bereft, Lance. Yeah. That's pretty good. It's an EP, though. Well, it's an EP. It's a four-song. Yeah, but it's like 40 minutes, though, isn't it? Yeah, so it's in that category that we're talking about. I was surprised you didn't put that on your list. Yeah, I actually was surprised, too, because you really were texting or tweeting the band and everything. There's room. I love these guys. I want to get naked with them. Who says I didn't? That's a good point. XIXI made my list for honorable mention.

02:39:38.900 --> 02:39:42.520
A Flourishing Scourge made my list. The Fellwarden made my list.

02:39:42.560 --> 02:39:43.200
Fellwarden, yeah.

02:39:44.479 --> 02:39:46.340
Hertois Circle, November's Doom.

02:39:46.939 --> 02:39:47.380
Hertois?

02:39:48.199 --> 02:39:48.640
Hertois.

02:39:49.380 --> 02:39:51.200
This is Hertois. Nice. That's funny.

02:39:52.080 --> 02:39:54.900
November's Doom, Mardia, Persephone.

02:39:56.140 --> 02:39:57.120
Oh, yeah. I'm surprised.

02:39:57.240 --> 02:39:58.340
Athema, I think it's called.

02:39:58.920 --> 02:40:00.640
It's good. It's a lot to take in.

02:40:00.760 --> 02:40:02.480
It's 60 minutes of just nonstop.

02:40:03.360 --> 02:40:06.200
And then an album that I thought you guys might get into,

02:40:06.360 --> 02:40:08.300
but I never heard from anybody about it, but that's cool.

02:40:08.520 --> 02:40:38.020
So it's their kind of spacey doom. Space witch. Yeah. Arcanum. Right on. Will. Somewhat lengthy honorable mentions list. And some of them are EPs. So I saved the EPs for the last three. But in no real particular order, Azeroth and Extremis. These guys remind me a lot of Nile. There's so the other band that I had, I think, at number nine.

02:40:41.360 --> 02:41:08.340
Hideous Divinity. They remind me a lot of Niall. I fucking love Niall. But anyway, Azeroth. Fool of Hell, Trumpeting Ecstasy. This album rips into you. It's a grindcore style album. They're local to the Baltimore, D.C. area, Pennsylvania. But I just need more time with it. Goat Whore, Vengeful Ascension. How did that

02:41:08.380 --> 02:41:36.940
And not make your list. I know, but I just, I did not spend enough time. I can almost guarantee you this will be on my year-end list, and it may be really high on my year-end list. I just needed more time with it. And there was just, if you look at my list, most of my list is built in stuff in like January, February. Because the rest of my year has been crazy fucking busy as hell. A flourishing scourge is that way for me. I love that. I just need way more time to put it in a place. I need more time.

02:41:38.960 --> 02:42:08.340
Overkill, The Grinding Wheel, the more I listen to it, I actually really love this album. But I need more time with it. Weirdly enough, I'm probably completely alone in this, but Danzig, Black Landing Crown. Crickets. But if you listen to this album compared to the last few, aside from the production that fucking blows on this album, there are some really good solid songs on this that harken back to

02:42:08.380 --> 02:42:13.340
the first four dancing albums. Actually, I have to interrupt you, Will, and tell you that literally my

02:42:13.720 --> 02:42:38.340
disappointments list has three records on it, and that's one of my exact words. We're going to be, there's some really good songs here, but the production is so bad. Yeah, but I guess I just look at the other way. There's good songs on it. I can see past the production, but there's potential there. It's not like the songs... Oh, no, it could have been a great record. Right. It's not like the songs totally suck. Some of the songs are good, but the production is

02:42:38.360 --> 02:43:08.100
And his voice is not what it used to be. But I guess I'm harking back to my high school years. I'm like, wow, this could have been good. But here's my problem with the production, why I personally find it somewhat unlistenable. It sounds like you're listening to, like on one side of your room is a boombox playing the music, and on the other side of your room is a boombox playing the voice. They sound completely separated somehow. It's bizarre. Yeah, it's like a bad karaoke sometimes.

02:43:08.340 --> 02:43:38.320
Yeah, and it's completely dry. He didn't put any reverb on the vocals. Other than that, he could have delivered with this record. Yeah, and I feel as though his vocals change from song to song. As in, some songs, it's like, wow, are you hungover right now? Well, he recorded it over the course of a year. He literally may have sang one in January, one in February, you know, whatever. Anyway, dancing. Keep going. I don't want to mention I'm going to go through

02:44:03.759 --> 02:44:07.100
It's a great album.

02:44:08.120 --> 02:44:38.100
If you look at some of their past albums, their past albums were way, way better. I think this is an Irish band. Scathne Dieth. Yep. Pledge Nothing But Flesh. I think this could make my year-end list, even though it's sort of black metal-ish. But man, it's good. I just need more time with it. Our Penance, Cast the First Stone, Tech Death. I really like

02:44:38.120 --> 02:45:05.700
This album, I need more time with it. John Frum, Stirring of the Noose. I like this one. John Frum is like a cargo cult thing of the South Pacific Islands. Dillinger. Yeah, but I'm not a fan of Dillinger whatsoever. In fact, I can't even stand that band. But John Frum, I kind of like. Bereft, Lanz. I really, really like Bereft. I really like this album.

02:45:08.140 --> 02:45:38.100
the same thing I said about the Nailed Obscurity that some of the clean singing just is just not that good but this if you take this it's kind of an EP it's four songs but it's very long if you take this EP and take out those harsh vocals holy shit it's a very very good fucking record Excommunion Thrawnosis slow paced death metal band but it's an EP and then

02:45:38.160 --> 02:46:07.840
Last but not least, because it's an EP, Bantha Rider. Self-titled. Stoner Doom Metal Band, inspired by Star Wars, instrumental. And I fucking love it. And if it wasn't an EP, that would be on my list. And I may just break all kinds of rules and put on my year-end list anyway. I'm going to have to ask, do they have a song called Uteni? Yeah! Uteni! Uteni! I bet the Uteni guy. Uteni! All right, Jay.

02:46:09.199 --> 02:46:38.080
Honorable Mentions, all of these sort of, well, with the exception of maybe one or two, almost worked their way onto my list and then fell off. Vampire with Primeval Force is a really cool kind of, yeah, it's good, it's good. He sounds like, yeah, you told me about that one. He sounds like old school Tom Warrior to me when he sings that guy in places. Mutoid Man, War Hormones, unfortunately I didn't think this was as good as their last one, so it was pretty good. Worm Witch, Strike Mortal Foil, which is somewhat actually similar to the Vampire

02:46:38.120 --> 02:47:07.820
The New Record, Creator, Gods of Violence, Royal Thunder, who everybody talks about from Atlanta. Honestly, their new record is great. It's more hard rock than metal. I have to give a huge shout-out to... Is that like a frosted flick? Great! Great. I have to give a shout-out to both The Creator and Celtic Frost Reissues. Those both kind of made my year. Those came out in such nice packages, minus the covers on the other thing. And I do want to mention Disappointments, because these all disappointed me.

02:47:07.900 --> 02:47:37.300
The Danzig, as mentioned, with the production. The Paul Bearer, I just couldn't get into. I don't know why everybody's saying that's the greatest record ever. I forgot my disappointments. We'll do them later. Keep going. I don't know why everybody is talking so highly about that one. This is the first Mastodon record I couldn't even make it through. I tried several times and I could not get into that Mastodon. I'll just say my two disappointments right now are Mastodon. Mastodon is not a disappointment. They've disappointed me for a long time, but this record is terrible.

02:47:37.880 --> 02:48:07.820
The Paul Bear disappoints me. I will say this. When I saw them live at the Rock and Run Hotel in D.C., when they played the new songs live, they sounded great. I think it's part of its guitar tones and production. But I also think the songs just aren't as engaging or something. They're not. But when you see them playing live mixed in with the live set of the old stuff, it's awesome. I will say that. No, but I was... I love, absolutely love Foundation.

02:48:07.900 --> 02:48:37.840
and the new album Heartless was just not. Yeah, but this was not my thing. Yeah, just didn't hold me for some reason. Yeah. All right. I've got a pretty lengthy list of honorable mentions. First up, Karak Angren, Dance and Laugh Amongst the Rotten. Very cool album, but I just couldn't figure out what to do with that. Next up, Greg is shaking his head about this one.

02:48:37.900 --> 02:49:07.000
that it wasn't on my list. Duel, Here Now, There Then. One of my favorite albums of the year. It really is. But it was more of a hard rock album, and so I left it off the list. The D-O-L with the horse thing? There's like a horse, yeah. It's a great album, but like Royal Thunder, it's more of a rock album. So I left it off in favor of metal albums. Why would you do that on the Metal Heads podcast? Gee, I don't know.

02:49:07.060 --> 02:49:37.020
In case he's a dick. Yeah. Don't you know it. Sorry. Next up, Evocation, The Shadow Archetype. It was a great album, but didn't make the cut. Falls of Roros, Vigilance, Perennial. Another one that, if the vocals were a little better, the vocals kind of grind on me. I love the music, but vocals not so much. Creator Gods of Violence. We've already talked about that. You need to revisit that. Locust Leaves, A Sunlight.

02:49:37.400 --> 02:50:04.760
Kind of Light. Thank you, Jay. Thank you, George. This is the one that was my number 11 that got knocked off. This was Lost and Horizonless. I was surprised we didn't hear any more about that. Another one, Lying Figures and The Abstract, Escape. That's a Death Doom band. Really good stuff. Nocturnal Mortem, Verity. Norska, Too Many Winters. Very good album.

02:50:06.480 --> 02:50:30.720
Might make the year-end list. We'll see. The production, that's another one, George, that you gotta be careful what you listen to it on. Yeah. It doesn't sound so good under some circumstances for some reason. Yeah, I listen to it with headphones, so that's all I've heard it on. November's Doom, Hamarsha, Obituaries, self-titled album. I was surprised that that was not on Will's list, but there you go.

02:50:36.480 --> 02:51:06.000
I liked it. I just, I need even more listens with it. Yeah. Shores of Null, Black Drapes for Tomorrow. And finally, another one from JVampire with Primeval Force. Those are our honorable mentions. And before we move on, we got a list from Mark, a.k.a. Spotify Mark. The franchise. The franchise. Go on. I want to read you his list.

02:51:06.080 --> 02:51:09.580
from 11 down to 1. Number 11.

02:51:10.340 --> 02:51:11.720
Tomb's The Grand Annihilation.

02:51:12.900 --> 02:51:17.340
Need to spend more time with it, but first few times through, another solid effort.

02:51:18.040 --> 02:51:19.300
I agree with you there, Mark.

02:51:19.660 --> 02:51:20.380
Yeah, me too.

02:51:20.880 --> 02:51:21.180
Number 10.

02:51:21.530 --> 02:51:27.900
One that I'm surprised was not on a list, but because, and actually it should have been on, at least on my honorable mentions,

02:51:28.680 --> 02:51:30.980
Rip La Sear, Do Not Deviate.

02:51:31.140 --> 02:51:31.820
It's a good album.

02:51:31.830 --> 02:51:32.860
You guys talked about that a lot.

02:51:32.880 --> 02:51:35.400
Yeah, it's Evan from Wilderun.

02:51:35.440 --> 02:52:05.040
Yeah, Evan from Olderun. He describes it as insane tech death, and it really is. It's a good album. It's good. His number nine, Goat Horror, Vengeful Ascension. Wow. Pretty straightforward, but heavy and loud. I can't disagree with that, rather. His number eight, This Surprised Me and Pleased Me, Duskmorin of Shadow and Flame. He says, While I wait for Throssenblot to make another album, this will hold me over. What's it called? I like his descriptions.

02:52:05.460 --> 02:52:35.340
Duskmorin. D-U-S-K-M-O-R-E. M-O-U-R-N. It was in our, I think I had it in the new releases. It's a good album. You know, he's got, his descriptions are short, but they're really to the point. I like them. Yeah, they're kind of, he's getting the point. He's nailing it. He's nailing it. He's got three kids. He's got to get to the point. He's got to move on. He's got another kid to talk to. I also like that his list has some stuff that's not on ours. I know. So, number seven, Dying Fetus, wrong one to fuck with. I was surprised no one had that. Me too. A lot of people are talking about it.

02:52:35.460 --> 02:53:04.380
He says, heavy and brutal. Dig it. There you go. Number six. I don't even know this one, so kudos to Mark for finding something I didn't know called Contaminated. And the album's called Final Man. And he just says in all caps, Swedish death. So I'll have to check that out. His number five is Witch Vomit, Poisoned Blood. I listened to that. That's pretty good. He says, cool twist on modern death metal.

02:53:06.119 --> 02:53:33.660
Number four, another man after my own heart, A Flourishing Scourge, self-titled. He said, great to see a past guest of the show continuing to put out killer records. Number three, this one hurts a little, but everybody's got their own styles. Stone Sour. No, no, no. Code Orange Forever. It's making a lot of lists. It is.

02:53:34.420 --> 02:54:02.720
He says, this is my hardcore metal album of the year. I'm just not a big hardcore fan. That's what I was bitching about on the metal hammer list. I eat the shit out of those. He's pointing at Wills, yeah. His dick, yeah. Number two, this one surprised me. Mind Maze, Resolve. Female-fronted power metal. I don't know if they are popular or what, but this album sticks with me. I pump my fist to it, and so should you.

02:54:04.480 --> 02:54:34.400
I only know them because they're friends with another local band that I'm not real big on anymore. And so I've heard of them because of this band, but I also don't listen to them because of this band. I would call them a prog power band, and I say that with respect, John. I just say they get mentioned in all those. Yeah. I'm not a power metal fan, so that's okay, Jay. Yeah, well...

02:54:34.440 --> 02:55:03.980
But his number one is Elder, Reflections of the Floating World. You're right, Mark. Sorry, Mark. He says, it's going to make a lot, it's going to take a lot for something else to knock this out of this spot. This is going to be on every list, but I don't care. It's that good. I don't think it was on any of our lists. No, he's right, Mark. Sorry, Mark. I'm sitting on a boatload of online lists, and it's showing up. Oh, it is. It really is. And it's not a bad album. It's a good album. It's just not on our list. I just,

02:55:04.440 --> 02:55:33.520
I couldn't hold my attention. You know me, I bitch about long albums. Yeah, it's not bad, but it just didn't grab me. Yeah. So. All right. Well, thank you, Mark. And we'll put that up on the site with all the rest. Oh, yeah. All right. I last saw Mark at the Paul Bear Inner Arm show. I couldn't make that. Oh, God. Inner Arm just. I was out of town, I think. So awesome. So before we cut real quick, is there anything anyone's looking forward to?

02:55:34.440 --> 02:56:03.180
Without going into any great detail. Album-wise? Enslaved. Yeah. Enslaved, for sure, yeah. Paradise Lost. Monster Magnet has a record coming out. You know, I love them. Looking forward to the new Monster Magnet. Somebody else just wrapped something up, too. There's a lot of stuff coming out. I really feel like September is going to be a very good month. I know this is an album George and I are waiting for patiently. The Fiore album. Yes, yes. Waiting patiently. Exactly. So December. For at least December.

02:56:04.440 --> 02:56:05.600
A couple of us. The, um,

02:56:05.970 --> 02:56:07.280
my career has a record coming out. Yeah.

02:56:07.430 --> 02:56:09.260
I'm interested to see what happens there. Yeah.

02:56:09.390 --> 02:56:12.520
I liked the single she put out. So wolves in the throne room.

02:56:13.600 --> 02:56:16.060
Yeah. This is a lot of good stuff coming.

02:56:16.250 --> 02:56:18.160
Did you guys know with the dead have a new album coming out?

02:56:18.460 --> 02:56:20.200
No, I did not. I just found out today.

02:56:20.520 --> 02:56:21.100
Kind of psyched.

02:56:22.680 --> 02:56:23.940
That's the first thing you guys have mentioned.

02:56:24.280 --> 02:56:26.060
I'm excited about. Yeah. What's that?

02:56:26.480 --> 02:56:29.000
That's the first thing you guys have mentioned that I may be excited about.

02:56:29.400 --> 02:56:30.580
Oh, dude, you should be excited about everything.

02:56:31.020 --> 02:56:31.980
Everything we've mentioned. Yeah.

02:56:32.240 --> 02:56:33.260
Everything that comes out of our mouth.

02:56:33.360 --> 02:57:02.900
You better be excited, damn it. Age of twigs. I always get excited about things put in your mouth. Moonspell's got a new album coming out. Who? Moonspell. Oh, well, yeah, but it's all in Portuguese. I was kind of surprised. Moonsorrow. Is it Moonsorrow? Moonloop. Moonloop. Moonloop. Yeah, that was good. I thought that'd be on your list. I like it. It's a lot of work. It's like the Persephone. It doesn't stop. It's just nonstop. It's good. I just... I need a break during my music sometimes to kind of recoup.

02:57:03.360 --> 02:57:32.840
That Monolord is coming out. The Tile Cross, which I haven't listened to yet. I have to say, the Monolord single, is it the song Rust? Yeah, I haven't listened to it. Wasn't all that interesting, I thought. Yeah, I have to say. What the fuck is wrong with you guys, man? What do you want? You want like fucking Satan himself? Dude, I want the Black Album all day, all night. Apparently. Say no more. I thought the song was kind of cool. It was alright. I hate.

02:57:33.360 --> 02:58:02.880
I will say. I'm going to hear it soon, but the Venom Inc. record I'm excited about. The vocals were not buried as much. I liked that. That's the first thing I noticed, yes. You're just going to bitch because it's not the first album. The first album's good. It is very good. It's really good. By the way, the vocals are not that much different on the first album from the second album. They're pretty buried, too, though. I went back and listened. No, no, they're buried. The second album, they're so veneer. Buried with the dead.

02:58:03.360 --> 02:58:31.000
No, they're just so buried. You can almost, it almost, like, they put a microphone underwater and the guy sang into it. Let's just take the approach that all the people on the line take now. You're a hater. Do they say it like that? Yes. You're a hater. They do. Hi. Hi, I'm Tiffany, and you're a hater. One last thing before we go.

02:58:33.380 --> 02:59:03.320
Today, we sat down, John and Will and I, and Jay was here in spirit. And in voice. And in voice. And we did a quick Brewheads recorded segment for the podcast. Audio version of the Brewheads. An audio version. Well, you'll hear about it. So listen to that now, and then we'll be back. Welcome to the Metalheads podcast, and this is the first installment of the audio

02:59:03.979 --> 02:59:33.140
Brewheads. Which Will fights against very hard. Well, it's kind of hard for people to, I guess even in a written word, now it's audio, you still can't see the beer. You can't taste the beer. Well, you can't really taste it in the written word either, but nonetheless. But here's pictures, so you can hear the beer because I'm tapping it. Cheers, gentlemen. Cheers. What is the beer that we are drinking today for the first Audio Brewheads, Mr. John? So this is the final bottle.

02:59:33.360 --> 03:00:03.180
The fourth bottle of the Opeth Stout made by Northern Monk Brewing Company over in the UK. Yes. And we aged this one for, geez, what does it seem like now? A year and a half? A year? It's been a while since we've had it. Yeah, it's been a while, yeah. So we thought we would do this since today is our mid-year day. We figured why don't we give this a shot and see what this is like doing an audio version because there'll still be a written version of this. Yeah, so it's July 15th,

03:00:03.360 --> 03:00:32.880
2017. The Metalheads Podcast crew is here. George, Jay, John, and myself. And we are here to... Drink beer in front of Jay. Yeah. Who's drinking coffee. I just got my pizza. It just showed up. My wife picked it up. Yeah. Well, it's 10 o'clock in the morning. So, Jay, pretend that what you're drinking is an Opeth Stout. It's black. It looks like what we're drinking. It's roasting. It just tastes different. So, this beer, it's the 25th anniversary Imperial Stout, 9.2% alcohol by volume.

03:00:33.360 --> 03:01:02.660
And as we stated earlier, it's brewed by Northern Monk Brewing Company over in the UK for Opeth's 25th year anniversary. Yes. Happy birthday, Opeth. Which was last year. Last year. Oh, he's got the burrito. Yes. And actually, yeah, I think when my buddy TR and I went to London to see them on the 25th anniversary, which we thought was going to be the only date we didn't know. Which was where?

03:01:03.360 --> 03:01:32.620
In London. Right. So that's the connection. 25th anniversary beer for the Swedish band was. That's good. I like that. Yes. Actually, I did take some pictures. If you are interested in one of them, you can go onto the Metalheads website and look under the profile pics and you'll see a picture of me there. What's the significance of the bridge? The bridge is the album cover to Morning Rise for all you older, older Opeth fans.

03:01:33.360 --> 03:02:02.840
Which became kind of an iconic image, I think, amongst our fans. It's just a bridge in the middle of a National Trust Park in Bath, England. Which, by the way, T.R. and I went to. Bathory? Or just Bath? Just Bath. B-A-T-H. If you know your history. So you and T.R. took a bath together? We did not go to the Roman Baths, no. However, I've been to the Roman Baths twice before. Two different other trips to England. What were their names? Romulus. Cunnilingus.

03:02:05.939 --> 03:02:32.460
And Chauncey. I don't know where he came from, but nonetheless. Chauncey and Lloyd. No, so we made the trip to England. And conversely, then the beers, I think I got them that December. And that was in October 2015. So tell the story of how you got the beers, because we have these beers in the United States, and that does not happen very easily. No, I had to order them. Originally, there was an issue. I was trying to get them, I think, from the brewery, and they could not sell to the States and a few other countries.

03:02:33.360 --> 03:03:02.980
But a distributor picked them up and they, I guess, had the rights to sell to the states. So I pounced on four bottles. It wasn't cheap, but that's not the point. And they came fairly quickly. I was impressed. That's what she said. Hey, man. I got what I needed. I got my stuff. I'm happy. I don't know what your problem is. So I had one with Will a long time ago. We talked about the beer.

03:03:03.360 --> 03:03:33.280
We just couldn't seem to put together anything. And I didn't provide much input. I have to find out where those notes are. First time. Somewhere. But then I kind of thought, I've got three other bottles, which I had one with my buddy, TR. And then I think we had one here at the podcast a long time ago. You did. I remember. Yep. And I wasn't even there. That's probably why I'm the only one that remembers it. Long enough. God damn it. So this is the second time you get to see us drinking it from 3,000 miles away. I'm still trying to get a blind eye to the elder out of something.

03:03:33.859 --> 03:03:39.260
But you know, I'm not as pressed as I was, being that it's not the number one beer anymore.

03:03:40.500 --> 03:03:42.280
What's the number one now? Bell's Two-Hearted.

03:03:43.079 --> 03:03:43.720
Oh, no.

03:03:44.120 --> 03:03:44.820
That's what they said.

03:03:44.960 --> 03:03:45.520
Who's they?

03:03:45.860 --> 03:03:47.060
The beer-raiding people.

03:03:47.500 --> 03:03:48.320
Oh, Will, who are they?

03:03:48.760 --> 03:03:52.040
I'm going to be like the dude from Mayhem in that movie Metal Headbangers Journey.

03:03:52.160 --> 03:03:52.960
He says, what people?

03:03:53.060 --> 03:03:53.640
Who said that?

03:03:53.820 --> 03:03:54.680
Fuck them.

03:03:55.020 --> 03:03:55.400
Fuck you.

03:03:55.540 --> 03:03:56.100
I was like, really?

03:03:56.160 --> 03:03:56.720
Bell's Two-Hearted?

03:03:56.900 --> 03:03:57.340
That's all right.

03:03:57.500 --> 03:03:58.380
No, it's not that great.

03:03:59.020 --> 03:04:28.340
Bell's Too Hard is still a great beer. The only problem is you can get it everywhere, so it's kind of lost its mojo. If that beer was only available in Michigan or a few select places, people will still be losing their minds over that beer. It's a great beer. That's half the plenty thing, too. Right. Yeah. But anyway, after a while, I said to Will, maybe we should just hold this beer for a while and age it and see what happens and see what we think about it. So it ended up going longer than we thought. Yeah. Which is not what she did.

03:04:29.620 --> 03:04:58.360
Oh, yeah. Sometimes I even surprise myself. Well, cheers, gentlemen. Cheers. It's got a – it definitely has a brown, tannish head to it. The head retention did not stay very long, but it's an aged beer, so that's pretty typical. It's pretty – it's obviously – it's an imperial stout slash porter, so it doesn't have

03:05:19.439 --> 03:05:23.840
It's got legs.

03:05:28.400 --> 03:05:58.360
I always thought it was just sort of a more of an ambiguous thing not like a specific thing so that's interesting it's a it's a metaphor thing I guess yes or I learned something and you too can learn something listening to brew heads so it's it's it's I have the same distinct impressions before that it's roastier than it is boozy I haven't even I haven't drank it yet yeah but it definitely has taken on a little more character than the first time maybe because it warmed up a little bit too now since we've been

03:05:58.400 --> 03:06:27.600
here for a few minutes. Yeah. Yeah. It definitely has like a strong, like licorice, like a black licorice. Is that anise? Anise. Anise. Yeah. Anise. Anise. Yeah. Anise. Do you have anise? Yeah. Oh, yes. How did you know? It definitely has that strong. Naughty, naughty. The evolution has begun. Yeah.

03:06:28.380 --> 03:06:57.400
But it definitely, so when you hold up to light, there's definitely like a darkish, reddish brown hue to it. So it's not the darkest of all Imperial Stouts. No, but what are your impressions this time compared to the first time we had? I like it a lot better this time. It's probably for the two things that you've already said is that it's warmed up, so we probably poured it 20 minutes ago.

03:06:57.480 --> 03:07:27.440
Gave it a chance to breathe. And we also aged it for over a year. It has a lot more character, I think, this time around. Yes. So you definitely get that. The first thing I noticed is you definitely smell the roast. And then that anise or whatever, the black liquors part of it. But I think that adds more to it because we had it at your place the first time. And while we kind of popped it right out of the fridge, it just didn't seem to have as much of that character. A distinctive character.

03:07:27.920 --> 03:07:56.980
Yeah. No, this is, you know, and they tell you what's interesting on the, they tell you to age it. It's interesting on the bottle. It says best before. So B.E. or B.B.E. January 11th, 2040. Holy crap. So then it's going to be about a 35% beer. So that beer is going to last longer than I am. Yeah. Yeah. Well, that's not very nice. But probably true though. I mean, that's 20.

03:07:59.399 --> 03:08:27.020
23 years from now. That would make me 67. And there's no fucking way. You're not even going to get social security by then. Come on. Yeah. Not with that attitude. Yeah. I plan on still rolling up in my cane to a show. Yeah. But I like it much better this time, I think, than the first time. I think the aging definitely helped it. Yeah. It has a typical European stout feel to me. And that's not a slight.

03:08:28.199 --> 03:08:55.400
There's a certain style of way they brew there. Well, yeah. I would say this is very borderline between a porter and a stout. The technical definition of a stout is the addition of roasted barley. The barley doesn't go through the malting process. It's not black malt, which is super, super roasted barley malt. They take the barley and just roast it straight up. It's super acrytic and black.

03:08:57.480 --> 03:09:27.280
kind of technical definition between a porter and a stout. A porter does not have it, and a stout does. Is that sort of a pout? Yeah. But I find with a lot of English porters have a tendency to be a lot almost like our brown ales. And in America, we make our porters a lot thicker, a lot darker, a lot more chocolatey kind of notes to it, coffee notes to it. You're seeing a lot bigger porters, too, here, I think. Yeah, bigger porters. Not as many, but there are more here, I think.

03:09:27.480 --> 03:09:56.580
It's almost the same way with the British Stouts. Who originated the style, I have to say, in both cases. In America, we sometimes tend to take someone else's styles and do them just a little bit better. Yeah, so with here, it's basically like the Hot Rod. We're going to drop a 454 in there. As opposed to like an electric car. It's no slight on English style. I'm not saying that. Like a Fiat or a Mini. Here's a Ford F-350.

03:09:57.920 --> 03:10:26.180
Yeah, that is very American. It originated in England. This goes to 11. But we actually do. We go to 11 on a lot of stuff. I get all fluttery when Will drops knowledge on us. Yeah, I know. I was like, oh, that's right. Will wears glasses sometimes. They're called beer goggles. Beer goggles, maybe. And by the way, Jay, you look mighty fine in your glasses. Thank you. Meanwhile, while Jay, John, and George have their glasses on.

03:10:27.480 --> 03:10:56.400
I was just saying that I really need reading glasses. It was really bad in the brewery when it was a dark corner and I'm like checking the carbonation on a beer. I mean this tiny chart with like these micro numbers on it in the darkest corner of the brewery and I'm like getting flashlights out and magnifying glass out. And then you're tweeting that you're making the beer and then somebody writes back, why the fuck are you brewing a stone sour? What is up with that? You better be making a sour. Wait a minute, that was supposed to be a joke. Yeah.

03:10:58.459 --> 03:11:26.740
We did make a beer called Ugly and Stoned. I've had it. Super sour. So what do you think, George? I mean, you're here too. I am here, but I don't have the knowledge that you guys have. Just tell us what you think. All right, let me take a sip. It tastes like a stout. I nailed it.

03:11:27.500 --> 03:11:57.220
It's got that sort of rich, bitter, almost like a coffee kind of. It's roasty. Roasty, yeah. And it tastes great. I don't have any knowledge to drop on you because I just like beer. Our good friend via Twitter and Facebook, and I think he may listen to the podcast, Dan up in Canada, Dan Klaginger, he writes this manifest.

03:11:58.140 --> 03:12:27.460
That was awesome. I literally was laughing. Cheers, Dan. That was awesome. Manifest Fermentation. He's got a little blog. It's kind of like a mini version of... No, I shouldn't say mini. It's kind of like a Brew Heads kind of thing where he talks about metal and beer, but it's not just a little... It's not as much like Brew Heads. Brew Heads is the best. No, no, no, no. Dan does a great job. But his latest one, you have to check it out. It was just funny. It was like this giant liter of Imperial Stout. It was basically just like... But in your face, though. It was a label right there. Yeah, it was like...

03:12:27.500 --> 03:12:56.800
But that reminded me of what George just said, which was basically like, tastes like a stout. Dan's calm was a little bit longer than that, but it was very short. It's kind of sweet, too, but not in a candy sort of sweet, but more of a, you know. Licorice? No, I mean, like a coffee can be sweet, not with the sugar added. Yeah, you put enough Kahlu in it, yeah. No, but I mean, like a bitter coffee can also feel,

03:12:56.880 --> 03:13:26.560
to the tongue slightly sweet in a non-sugary way. It's like, hmm. Yeah. Like that. Thank you. I'll put that back in my pants now. And this is why I don't do the Brewhats columns. I never felt like you really picked up steam there at the end. I was like, okay, all right. You identified something. Stop kissing me, George. George is distinct and to the point. George has had three sips of beer so far.

03:13:26.580 --> 03:13:56.120
are getting homoerotic. It doesn't take three. Oh, yeah. He did have a rye before, so he's on tour. How many licks does it take to get to the chewy? One. One. Done. All right. So I think the takeaway from this then is that it was worth the wait then compared to the first. Absolutely, yeah. This is much better. When you put it into content, this is what I always like to do, especially when I did the Iron Maiden Trooper beer, which people don't like here in the United States. I'm like,

03:13:56.580 --> 03:14:25.940
You have to understand this is a British beer brewed in Britain by an old school British brewery and this is a very good British style ale. So I would say the same thing for this as far as Imperial Stouts goes brewed in Britain. I mean this is a really good stout. If I had it if it was like this every time I would have this more often then. This is if I want a stout but I don't want to drink anything big even though it's 9.2. Yeah it doesn't feel like it is. It doesn't drink like it at all. It's more like 9.1.

03:14:27.859 --> 03:14:28.580
Oh, man.

03:14:29.640 --> 03:14:30.720
Just one more.

03:14:30.880 --> 03:14:31.660
Just real quick.

03:14:31.990 --> 03:14:33.520
I think Jay will appreciate that.

03:14:33.640 --> 03:14:35.800
Jay, it's just like an earthquake hits in California.

03:14:36.000 --> 03:14:37.500
What was a 5.3?

03:14:37.660 --> 03:14:38.740
Well, we've downgraded.

03:14:38.740 --> 03:14:39.620
It's a 5.1.

03:14:40.160 --> 03:14:40.480
Yeah.

03:14:40.720 --> 03:14:41.340
Okay, fine.

03:14:41.680 --> 03:14:41.780
Yeah.

03:14:42.220 --> 03:14:45.360
Obviously, that does mean something on a Richter scale, but it's just that's really funny.

03:14:45.360 --> 03:14:46.260
Yeah, something to somebody somewhere.

03:14:46.660 --> 03:14:46.800
Yeah.

03:14:47.100 --> 03:14:47.240
Yeah.

03:14:47.440 --> 03:14:48.180
But it's really funny.

03:14:48.300 --> 03:14:49.000
Well, it's not that big.

03:14:49.020 --> 03:14:50.080
Oh, I was getting worried.

03:14:52.780 --> 03:15:21.460
Well, I would like to thank John for bringing this in to share with us. I know this is not a cheap beer to acquire. And it is not an easy one to split three ways and only take about seven ounces for yourself. So thank you. So cheers to John. Cheers, John. Appreciate it. I'm glad I got the shirt together. Yeah. I don't think I had, I didn't have one of these on my own, which is fine. I don't mind. So twisting the knife.

03:15:21.540 --> 03:15:51.280
That means it's because it's special. It was special with my friends. At this point, what crappy macro brewery is it that beer is for friends? Who is that now? What? It's on the commercials. The shitty ass. When you drink, it's because you're with your friends. Is that Anheuser-Busch that's doing that now? I don't know. It might be Ted Weiser. Yeah, it's just fuck them. Sorry. Fuck them right in the ear. I was thinking about Adam Tepedelan. I think I got the name right. Yeah.

03:15:51.520 --> 03:15:55.000
I actually asked him at the beer fest like how the hell do you pronounce your last name

03:15:55.900 --> 03:16:00.300
when I was at RFD recently uh before the Hall of Notes concert

03:16:02.060 --> 03:16:06.560
please don't talk about it uh please don't talk about it I I do my wife wanted to go it was her

03:16:06.640 --> 03:16:13.860
birthday present so we went your wife air quotes wants to go to a lot of these concerts air quotes

03:16:13.960 --> 03:16:43.380
Yeah. Anyway, so as per our ritual, but when going to the Verizon Center, we went to RFD beforehand, which RFD, rest in peace. Very, very famous. RFD has closed their doors. The famous beer bar right next to the Verizon Center where the Washington Capitals and the Wizards play. Yeah, but a few weeks ago, it was still open. And damn, where'd my story go? I don't know, but it had Hall notes in it. You were singing She's Gone and Man Eater and all that stuff.

03:16:43.460 --> 03:17:13.420
And that was the pronunciation of Tepedellin's name. Oh, right. So I was there, and I was going through what they had on draft, because I've always been like, oh, FD's awesome, they have all these beers. And then, you know, I recently read Adam's article about the whole, you know, fight the power, fuck the big beer. And how there's a lot of formerly craft beers that are now big beer. Sure. And I was looking through what they had on draft, trying to find something.

03:17:14.040 --> 03:17:43.280
Real Craft. And I was like, nope, that's Big Beer now. Nope, that's Big Beer now. And I was like, I wanted to get an ocelot. I was like, I know that's not. And it was out. That's why it was out. Plus it's really good beer. I had to settle for a Big Beer. And I was like, fuck RFD. I joke about it, but now they're gone. I didn't realize that Terrapin sold out. A long time ago, actually. Who did they go to? Coors. That's what I thought.

03:17:43.460 --> 03:18:12.600
Which is all MillerCores, AB, InBev. It's all the same company. Yeah, it's unreal. Not even anywhere to get into it. You know, John, there's a little bit of concern here that field work might go big because they're getting a little big for their britches. They've got multiple locations now and they're starting to can stuff. Yeah, I think that that's going to be the general fear no matter where you are. A brewery's doing well. I think the problem with that is because Wicked Weed sold and that really hurt a lot of people.

03:18:12.660 --> 03:18:13.420
That sucks

03:18:14.100 --> 03:18:15.580
They're a cult brewery back here

03:18:15.790 --> 03:18:16.460
I mean, they're already

03:18:17.380 --> 03:18:18.580
They were already good to begin with

03:18:18.590 --> 03:18:20.380
But a lot of people would seek out their stuff

03:18:20.660 --> 03:18:21.500
Once they got to Virginia

03:18:21.780 --> 03:18:22.980
And this area in D.C.

03:18:24.480 --> 03:18:25.060
Well, for what it's worth

03:18:25.160 --> 03:18:25.880
I had some last night

03:18:25.910 --> 03:18:26.240
And it was

03:18:27.680 --> 03:18:28.940
Of its usual high quality

03:18:29.120 --> 03:18:30.040
Yeah, Fieldworks is good

03:18:30.140 --> 03:18:30.520
I like them

03:18:32.040 --> 03:18:32.440
All right

03:18:32.540 --> 03:18:33.300
So, well

03:18:34.520 --> 03:18:36.600
I guess that's our first brew heads

03:18:36.840 --> 03:18:37.880
Yes, it's been

03:18:37.980 --> 03:18:39.620
The champagne bottle has hit the boat

03:18:39.760 --> 03:18:40.160
It has been

03:18:41.739 --> 03:18:42.740
launched and initiated.

03:18:43.430 --> 03:18:44.460
But I think we'll do more.

03:18:44.460 --> 03:18:45.780
It's slowly listing into the bay.

03:18:46.740 --> 03:18:46.860
Yeah.

03:18:47.640 --> 03:18:48.980
It's going to sink at all 20 feet.

03:18:48.980 --> 03:18:49.700
It's a sinking ship very quickly.

03:18:50.140 --> 03:18:52.500
But if we're in the bay, don't worry, it's only about 20 feet deep on average.

03:18:52.650 --> 03:18:54.120
So we're not going that far down.

03:18:56.660 --> 03:18:59.960
So I assume, Will, that there will be something written up for this.

03:19:00.200 --> 03:19:00.360
Yeah.

03:19:00.620 --> 03:19:01.460
To accommodate this.

03:19:02.239 --> 03:19:05.180
I'll try and make sense of this madness that was...

03:19:05.180 --> 03:19:05.360
I don't know.

03:19:05.440 --> 03:19:08.640
I mean, he'll listen back to this to be like, oh, yeah, okay, okay.

03:19:08.840 --> 03:19:09.520
So I don't know.

03:19:09.560 --> 03:19:39.540
I guess we could ask people to let us know if they like this. If they do, maybe again. If not, oh well. Yeah. The writing won't go away. We'll continue to do that. But it would be kind of cool to throw in the Brewheads update on the podcast. For what it's worth, as somebody who kind of sat through and was an observer, I enjoyed it. I think people dig it. Thank you, Jay. Fine job, gentlemen. And I'd also like to suggest for the written portion, Will, that your headline could be George's

03:19:39.580 --> 03:20:07.880
It's a stop. What do you want from me? It's a stop. Come on, I'm doing the best I can here. It's a beer. Fucking drink it. All right. All right. Moving on. All right. Well, we are nearing the end of the episode now. Apparently. Yeah. And before we go, there's a few things I want to talk about. The next thing you're probably going to hear from us.

03:20:09.560 --> 03:20:38.720
The next thing you're probably going to hear from us is going to be my Valken episode, which unfortunately Jay will not be there. And I am very sad about this, but I do have plenty of good people that are going to be there with me. Including Sergei. Yes. Which I don't mean to laugh because I mean like George is going to be a Sergei and I won't be with either of you. I've never met Sergei, but I've obviously. Who is the basis in Kentucky. But we've had like sort of secondhand in, you know,

03:20:39.560 --> 03:21:09.500
Tangential Conversations. Of course. And let me I should explain just because some people are what they expected me to go it didn't work out for me it's a long story but I'm still going to Europe ironically it's just that I won't be that near Germany so and it's okay life but you'll be in Poland right? I will and guess what I'm gonna do. You know Poland's right next to Germany right? It is but I mean it's like hey I'll be in Nevada but I won't be in California. But I'll also be there. Did you say Nevada? At the wrong time.

03:21:09.580 --> 03:21:10.240
It's Nevada.

03:21:10.290 --> 03:21:11.380
Yeah, I'll be there at the wrong time.

03:21:11.580 --> 03:21:12.200
That's the other key.

03:21:13.120 --> 03:21:16.720
But one thing I am going to do, and I don't mean to walk on the Valken thing,

03:21:16.840 --> 03:21:20.920
is I'm going to get my hair cut at Nurgle's Barbershop.

03:21:21.380 --> 03:21:23.680
And I'm going to do a segment called Heavy Metal Haircut.

03:21:23.840 --> 03:21:24.780
But that's stated.

03:21:25.300 --> 03:21:26.260
I'm sad I can't go.

03:21:26.630 --> 03:21:29.740
Are you going to grow your hair to get a haircut?

03:21:30.500 --> 03:21:32.580
You practically have a fucking buzz cut, dude.

03:21:33.570 --> 03:21:34.480
What fucking hair do you have?

03:21:34.500 --> 03:21:35.080
It's a barbershop.

03:21:35.080 --> 03:22:05.060
I'm cutting your nose hair. It's going to be this one. I'm cutting this hair. Your ass, pubic hair? What fucking hair is it going to cut? I'm not going to get it cut until I go. So I'm going to have something to work with. You have more hair on your goddamn nose. So I didn't mean to interrupt you, George. It's just that I thought I should explain why I'm not going. And life goes on. Yes, quite all right. Yes, I am quite sad because I wouldn't even be going if you hadn't been going in the first place. I know. Way to go, Jay. But in less than two weeks, I will be

03:22:05.100 --> 03:22:34.940
to Iceland, as you've probably already heard, before heading to Germany and then Denmark and then Sweden. So I'm going to be doing sort of a travelogue on the road podcast leading up to getting to Valken and at Valken and possibly post-Valken as well, depending on what's interesting. I would like, I don't think it's going to happen because it's too outside the realm of what my wife wants to do,

03:22:34.980 --> 03:23:04.940
But in Sweden, in Stockholm, I would like to go to Corthon's grave and get a picture. But I don't think it's probably going to happen. You're going to have to find something close by that she might like. Oh, look at this. Corthon's grave. Here's Madonna's grave. So we'll see. But that is probably going to be the next recorded output you here because...

03:23:04.980 --> 03:23:34.860
stuff coming up. Yes. We have some stuff coming up. We're going to, we want to do like Ukiyaru. We'd like to. Yeah. Yeah. Right after that, maybe like two days after I get back is the Ukiyaru show at Atlas. So we'll definitely be recording there as well. Maybe I'll do some prog power stuff that nobody will listen to, but you know, yeah, no, you definitely should record there as well. I listened to like five minutes of it when you guys did it. Yeah. So if it's not September, if it's September next time you hear an official episode, that's why we got a lot of shit going on. Uh, but I hope.

03:23:35.300 --> 03:24:04.340
We'll hit the ground running after that, and we'll be back up to our normal. Because somebody who has already liked on Facebook, when I said we were recording on Facebook, they're like, it's about time. And you're right, it's about time. But we'll get back to our normal schedules. I'm hoping that in September we have somebody that we've been talking about for a little while. I'm working on it. I'm hoping. Because if we do, that'll... And it's big. I will be very excited. It's big. And I'm working on it, and I think there's at least a 70% chance or better that's exactly when we'll be talking to them. So we'll see. George and I were talking about someone yesterday.

03:24:04.920 --> 03:24:34.780
or the day that we might want to get on. Hopefully. Maybe I can work it out for us. Okay. So we got some stuff coming. Yeah. So stuff is in the works. Just be patient. We'll get there. And before we go, make sure to check us out on SoundCloud. We're on Facebook. We're on Twitter. We're on Instagram. We're on Stitcher. And of course, we are metalheads.com. Where can you email us? You can email us.

03:24:34.920 --> 03:24:36.920
That was really good.

03:24:37.220 --> 03:24:42.820
Well, the new website actually has a contact page where you can send an email through the page.

03:24:42.890 --> 03:24:47.840
So go to wearemetalheads.com or metalheadspodcast.com.

03:24:48.300 --> 03:24:54.300
But if you do not feel like going to the website and filling out the form, if you just want to like, hey, I got a Gmail account.

03:24:54.300 --> 03:24:55.060
I want to email you.

03:24:55.290 --> 03:24:56.140
What is the email address?

03:24:56.380 --> 03:24:58.620
George at metalheadspodcast.com.

03:24:58.880 --> 03:24:59.180
All right.

03:25:00.460 --> 03:25:30.400
And if you're on Twitter and you want to get a hold of us, I am Disciple OV Metal. I am at CatatonicJ. I am at BrewMetalWill. I'm at WhiteCluster69. 69! 69! 69. Doctor. Yes. Doctor. Doctor. You can look us up on Bandcamp, too, to see what we've been listening to. Yeah, please. I'm at BrewMetalWill on Bandcamp. I'm the same. I think we're all right.

03:25:30.460 --> 03:25:57.720
They're all the same. Yeah, I'm like Metal Disciple George or something like that. Yeah. Before we go, as we exit now, you're going to hear, as promised, our new outro song from Ash and Horde, Shrieks of the Damned. Thank you, Trevor and Stevie. Thank you, Trevor. Thank you, Trevor. Thanks, guys. Thank you, sirs. This is going to rip your face off.

03:26:05.119 --> 03:26:06.520
Wink!
