00:00:03.300 --> 00:00:26.800
Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, metal's my religion, and yeah, it's my dope. Standing in the thunder on stage in the pouring metal rain. What a feeling, baby, the lights are exploding.

00:00:56.420 --> 00:00:59.400
Hello and welcome to the Metal Heads Podcast. My name is George.

00:00:59.640 --> 00:01:24.100
My name is Buke. This is Jay. This is Will. And this is John. And we are joined today by the rock and roll beer guy, Eddie. How you doing? Doing all right, guys. Thanks for having me on. No problem. Hey, Eddie. So when I contacted you a couple, I guess maybe a month or so ago, I remember the subject of the email line was a brother from another mother. Yep, yep. It's still going. We're still on that email chain. Yeah, we are.

00:01:29.620 --> 00:01:59.480
You have a podcast yourself talking about metal and beer. You work in the beer industry. You play in a band. So it's like you're meant to be on this podcast with us at some point. Yeah, no, it made sense, man. I'm really grateful you guys put me on. But yeah, when I heard about you guys and I was like, man, I thought I had an original idea. I guess not. There's nothing original under the sun. A little metal reference there. But in the days of the Internet, it's true. You can't think of a dude.

00:01:59.640 --> 00:02:29.160
whatever it is. And realistically speaking, we appreciate you coming on because you're actually going to boost our numbers and our listenership. Hopefully it'll be real. Hopefully it'll be reciprocal there. Well, let's wrap this up then. Okay. Let's go on to the news then. Well, Dan, so why don't you tell us a little bit about the podcast? Yeah. How did it get started, Mel? Yeah, it all started as kind of a joke between a buddy of mine because I was working with Cigar City out in Florida, Cigar City Brewing, and, you know,

00:02:29.200 --> 00:02:58.980
I'm a big fan of music so every time a show would come to town I'd try and reach out to the band and be like hey guys I'll bring you a bunch of beer that way you guys have you know party afterwards. Buying the love. Good smart man. So I kept doing that and I would post pictures on Instagram and my buddies would be like dude how the hell are you side stage at Summer Slaughter or how are you side stage at you know Between the Buried and Me and I'm like dude I just you know I brought them beer and then they started calling me. And good beer too. Yeah yeah yeah. They started calling me the rock and roll beer guy.

00:02:59.020 --> 00:03:28.900
kind of as a joke, just like, oh, you're the rock and roll beer guy. And then every time I would do something like that, like be side stage at Slaughter, I'd put a hashtag rock and roll beer guy just to mess around, be cocky. But then we sat around one day and I'm like, you know, I know a lot of these bands and I know a lot of brewers and I could just sit down and get them to do a podcast. I think it'd be cool. It's an interesting premise. Why don't you go into that a little? Yeah, I mean, there's a lot of parallels that I've noticed between beer and music in terms of, like when you're a small independent band,

00:03:29.060 --> 00:03:58.300
or a small independent brewery, you're going through similar struggles trying to get your stuff out there and trying to get people to come check it out. You'll have events. There's a lot of similarities, I think, in the entire process. Those are the two biggest things in my life, really, is music and beer. I figured I'd just put them together. You're in good company here. Will, you're a brewer as well, yes? Yeah, Atlas Brew Works. This is my third brewery, so I started at Port City.

00:03:59.060 --> 00:04:29.000
what you do is what I was kind of doing as well is I would just contact bands and say hey to stop by the brewery so I have Battle Cross stop by two of my breweries and sort of got to know those guys a little bit so whenever they're in town I reach out say hey come by my brewery and they always do I got to know the guys some of the other local bands because I make beers for them or I bring them beers and it was really nice because for a while when Empire Nova or Jack's a local music venue they always had my beer on draft

00:04:29.020 --> 00:04:58.840
So I could easily go, you know, and that's such a small venue that half the time, you know, I remember Carl Sanders in Nile, you know, selling beer at the merch booth. And after the show, or he's selling merch. And then after the show, I'm like, hey, you want a beer? And it's like, I just grab it from the bar and give it to him. I don't even have to bring it to the show. It was pretty nice. Yeah, that's very, that's, that's, that's, that's one of the biggest issues or struggles with me is just day of the show, trying to get the beer into the green room or something or into the dressing room without dragging a cooler through the entire fucking venue. And people are, you know,

00:04:59.560 --> 00:05:29.000
But that's usually the biggest issue is just getting coordinated with somebody in the band or their tour manager or something just to get the beer back there for them. I'm pretty sure though most bands would love to update their rider with something better than the shit they normally get. A couple cases of beer. Okay, here's Bud Light. That's a couple cases of water. Yeah, right? They need hydration. It's important. So Eddie, you're also in a band. Yeah, I'm actually in

00:05:30.559 --> 00:05:57.580
I sing for the band DeSever, which is D-I-S-S-E-V-E-R. A lot of people get it confused. They're like, December? They don't understand what I'm saying. But yeah, DeSever sang for them. I still sing for them. I mean, we're currently on a little hiatus. Everybody moved to different states right now. Our drummer's living in Denver. Our bass player's out in Seattle. I'm out here in California, and our guitar player stayed in Miami.

00:05:57.900 --> 00:06:26.840
So we're kind of on a little break, but we're still, we have a pre-production on our new album that we wrote. And I'm laying down some pre-pro vocals on it. And we're going to take that over to Steve Evitz, who's a local music producer. He's worked with the Deftones and Glassjaw and The Cure, you know, pretty big names. But he's local and, you know, he's willing to work with us. So, yeah, trying to finish that. And then I'm also in Vultures Are Wolves, kind of.

00:06:26.940 --> 00:06:56.700
Sorry, back up, Desever, describe the music. Oh, okay. So Desever... Wait, wait, wait, wait, back up even further. When you say local, I don't know where you are. Where are you? Oh, Long Beach, California. Okay, right on. Go ahead, please. So Desever's music is a little difficult because we go up and down. Like some of our songs are a little more easy to digest. They're not radio friendly, but still, you know, there's verse, chorus, verse, chorus, and there's a good hook to it. But then there's songs that are just completely all over the place.

00:06:56.920 --> 00:07:23.200
Crazy Time Signatures and Heavy. So that was kind of a problem with us just having to figure out what show we were playing at the time. Like if we're playing with a bunch of heavy bands, we're going to play all our heavy songs and maybe throw in like one softer song or one melodic song. But if anybody were to compare it, I mean, you know, I've heard Tool. I've heard... Someone actually told me once, we sound like Dillinger Escape Plan raped Opeth.

00:07:26.920 --> 00:07:49.700
Apois, que não é?

00:07:56.940 --> 00:08:26.880
Yeah, so Vultures or Wolves, I snuck my way in there. It was a three-piece for a long time, just guitar, drums, and the vocals. And then, you know, I kept, they're good friends. We would always play, DeSever would play shows with Vultures or Wolves together out in Miami. And one day I was just like, guys, I really think you guys could benefit from a bass player. You know, and I'm like, I don't, I don't really play bass. I play some bass when I do my, like, solo project stuff. But, you know, I'm like, I would love to play bass for you guys. And, you know, we just started playing shows.

00:08:26.940 --> 00:08:28.640
and it ended up working out.

00:08:30.280 --> 00:08:31.500
That's a good way to get in a band.

00:08:31.910 --> 00:08:32.240
You know what?

00:08:32.300 --> 00:08:33.820
You guys need some fucking kazoo, dude.

00:08:33.930 --> 00:08:35.000
And I happen to have one here.

00:08:38.020 --> 00:08:39.000
Yeah, man, I got a triangle.

00:08:39.640 --> 00:08:40.440
What do you call those things?

00:08:41.200 --> 00:08:43.280
It's like a flute, but a slight flute?

00:08:43.700 --> 00:08:43.900
Recruly.

00:08:44.060 --> 00:08:44.500
Hold on.

00:08:45.860 --> 00:08:49.620
I think you guys overlooked the big thing, though.

00:08:49.820 --> 00:08:54.180
You said you had to step in and you asked them to fill the role of a bass player.

00:08:54.530 --> 00:08:56.100
So for the time being, they were like,

00:08:56.980 --> 00:09:25.380
And he was like, I'm not the low man on the totem anymore. Maybe they were St. Anger cover band. Oh, no. Geez, no, no. No, the thing is, the guitar player was using baritone guitars, and he would use two amps, and he would make up for the low end with the guitar. But I still always felt it was missing, you know, a little low end. That is cool, though. There's a band here that does that, that the guitarist uses a guitar and a bass amp.

00:09:25.420 --> 00:09:55.380
And I was impressed with how great it sounded. You want to say a band doesn't need a bass player, you say that the fucking Blake, a pig destroyer right now. Is the band you're talking about called Wolf King? No, it's called No Trust. I'm up in the Bay Area. They're actually from the Bay Area, Wolf King. They're from up in San Francisco, I guess, or Oakland, around there. Way to know your scene, Jay. They're the same concept, three-piece, no bass.

00:09:55.440 --> 00:10:25.400
But yeah, in terms of the music that we do with Vultures are Wolves, that's my violence, anger, satanic, voodoo nonsense. As heavy as possible and as disgusting as possible, that's what we're going for. Excellent. That's what we're all about here. Also, vulturesarewolves.bandcamp.com if you want to hear that too. Yeah, get the plugs in, man. Yeah, check it out. Important question. What are you drinking? Sorry, you're drinking a beer. Oh, yes, I'm drinking Haunted Stars. It's an Imperial

00:10:25.440 --> 00:10:54.500
from Modern Times. Oh, I... Modern Times, yeah. It's been hit and miss with me, the stuff I've picked up from them. Are they down there by you? They're in San Diego. San Diego, okay. So I guess I might as well just say it now, but yeah, I used to be an employee of theirs. Oh, everything they do is great. Used to be. Everything they do sucks to be, yeah. Yeah, yeah, it's tough. When did you leave it? It was like right around that time. They really went downhill. You know, Jay, when we're trying to think of nicknames for everybody, I'm thinking like, yours is either Burrito, but now it's foot and mouth now.

00:10:56.399 --> 00:11:25.300
I want to call him the sheriff. At least once an episode. I'm like, oh, losers like that. I'm not going to lie. It was kind of fun to watch that or listen to that develop. Oh, man. No, so I used to live in Florida, and I moved out to California about nine months ago and got the job with them, but just recently, last month, we went our separate ways, and I'll just leave it at that. You don't want to dig any dirt? I have to ask you this. We have Will here, and Will being a friend of mine, I know his history.

00:11:25.420 --> 00:11:50.440
is brewing here in the DC metro area. We talk about, you know, different genres of metal having a different sound, like, you know, the Bay Area thrash to, you know, the New York stuff. How about from, like, a beer world? Was it a change from you going from East Coast to now, hey, these West Coast IPAs are real popular and it's a little adjustment process for you or you really don't see that in the beer world now?

00:11:51.380 --> 00:12:20.020
Yes. Actually, the East Coast used to be known more for maltier type IPAs compared to the West Coast having more of a hop forward, danky, whatever they call it, sticky, resiny. But actually, I moved out here at a weird time where the beer world is actually more focused on Northeast style IPAs, which they've completely turned around from being malty to being this unfiltered, super hazy, juicy,

00:12:20.520 --> 00:12:28.260
IPA style thing, mostly from the New England area, like Alchemist, which they do Heady Topper or, you know, Treehouse.

00:12:28.480 --> 00:12:48.560
Treehouse. Yeah, Treehouse. Down here now, that's become the thing out in California. Everybody wants hazy IPAs. So breweries like Monkish and even modern times, they're doing hazy IPAs. So it's definitely, it was an interesting thing to move west to then now everybody's into the east. It's just really weird.

00:12:49.420 --> 00:12:51.400
Yeah, go ahead, Will.

00:12:51.610 --> 00:12:58.340
I was going to say, back in the day, you had a stark difference, just like Eddie said, you had West Coast IPAs and East Coast IPAs.

00:12:58.350 --> 00:13:04.660
But now it's like you can have a style of beer, just like Eddie said, West Coast IPAs or New England style IPAs.

00:13:04.790 --> 00:13:07.080
But now everyone makes it all across the country.

00:13:07.440 --> 00:13:10.780
So a lot of it just depends on what brewery now.

00:13:11.510 --> 00:13:16.000
But at its heart, this is a heavy metal pod.

00:13:16.180 --> 00:13:17.960
I'm sure Will has this in his questions.

00:13:23.760 --> 00:13:47.480
What got you into metal? Where did you start out? Were you like, ooh, I really like, I can't think of something awful. Did you start off with, like, heard Cannibal Corpse? You were listening to the Jay Giles band and you heard Cannibal Corpse and it changed or it was a slow progression? Start with ACDC and work your way up. No, yeah. For me, it was, well, I grew up as a kid with listening to 70s stuff.

00:13:48.660 --> 00:14:18.120
My dad used to listen to a lot of Zeppelin. Then he started kind of going, you know, playing a lot of like the PGs and stuff like that. But in terms of metal, I would say Metallica and Pantera were huge for me in terms of switching my perspective on it. And, you know, yeah, it was my gateway drug. And a lot of, you know, metal heads, like the super nerdy metal heads are like, oh, whatever. Metallica, have you heard of, you know, whatever. And it's I made my way back. You know, I started I'm like, once I discovered Metallica,

00:14:18.160 --> 00:14:48.140
and Pantera. I'm like, all right, well, Cannibal Corpse and, you know, just everything that I had missed out on for the years, old Opeth stuff. Because I got into Opeth around Ghost Reveries, I think it was. So then I had to kind of go back and discover everything when, you know, fans are like, oh, you're so behind, man. Blackwater Park! Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's crazy, man, to see where they've gone now, too. Like, they've completely changed into Blue Oyster Cult, which is fine by

00:14:48.160 --> 00:15:16.140
I mean, you know what I mean? Yeah, because I grew up with that 70s rock, you know, like I said, Lou Oyster Cult or Zeppelin or Pink Floyd, King Crimson. So hearing Opeth go into that direction was really cool. But yeah, I would say I would give it to Pantera Metallica for changing my life. Right on. Very cool. Pantera was my gateway drug in the middle. So nice. And then I was your drug dealer. George was the guy going, no, no, no, that's the lame stuff. I was. Yeah.

00:15:18.180 --> 00:15:47.880
I was like, come here. Opening my, what do you call it, the trench coat. Not only was I naked underneath, but I had, it was adorned with CDs. Or audio tapes, right? Oh, man. To derail us here for a second, Pukah Skyped me yesterday, and he was like, well, you want to tell it, Pukah? Yeah, I was cleaning my house, and I found a CD book that must have been one of those ones that you could kill a person with it, because it holds like 300 CDs.

00:15:48.200 --> 00:16:17.900
it. And I FaceTimed George because it's just 200 ripped CDs where I would go to George's and we would just like, hey, here's death. Here's every single album by every band. Yeah. When I met him, he was like, I like Pantera and I like Flaw and Seven Dust. And I was like, let me teach you. And so I would buy like spindles of CDs and just burn off everything that I had and give it to him and, you know, teach him. Yep. That was it. It brought back great memories. Yeah. I mean, it was like,

00:16:18.180 --> 00:16:48.140
16, 17 years ago, probably. Yep. I was thinking the other day, I remembered my first purchase ever as an individual, like an adult. Not an adult. I was like 12 or whatever. But first time I went to a store and bought a record, it wasn't even a record. It was a cassette tape and it was Pretty Hate Machine from Nine Inch Nails. Oh, well, that's a good first purchase. Mine was Kiss Dynasty. I do have Pretty Hate Machine on cassette, but my first was Stick

00:16:48.180 --> 00:16:50.520
I think it was.

00:16:50.720 --> 00:16:50.860
Nice.

00:16:51.260 --> 00:17:21.120
What was yours, Jay? Mine was Kiss Dynasty, and I bought it at Sears, and I took it home and put it on, and the needle went all the way through it. It was like a real... But that was through I Was Made for Loving You, so that was probably okay. But yeah, I mean, God, I was eight years old, saved up my money to buy the Kiss record. I had a little slice. Carry on, Keith. And I remember when I bought mine, too, Jay. Kiss Dynasty? Yes, when it came out. Oh, sure. Was it like at a Sears or something like that, or was it at a record store? You know,

00:17:21.280 --> 00:17:51.220
It might have been like a rainbow records back then when they were around. Kmart. It's where I used to go. Me too. Before we get into the news a little bit, let's go around the horn. We know what Eddie's drinking. John, what are you drinking? I've been drinking all day actually, but for the show, a little double duck pin from our friends up at Union Craft Beer up in Baltimore. I've got a few other gems waiting during the podcast. Nice. George. I am drinking Duchess de Bergeron.

00:17:52.360 --> 00:18:20.920
It's a nice beer. The Belgian, I call it the dirty sock beer. Hey, George. Hold on, George. What are you drinking? Duchess de Bourg. That's my most hated beer ever. I love it. Oh, my God. Hey, George, you're going to tie me in for that? Thanks for the bukkake. What was that, John? You need a paper bag for that bottle. Yeah, thanks to you. Man, I've had people tell me that that beer tastes like vinegar and vomit mixed together. Yeah. It tastes like vinegar. I hate it.

00:18:21.280 --> 00:18:50.840
It's like moldy sweat socks. Cause it's, it's like that, that tang of like stanky feet. I like it. I think it's good. I love it. Maybe Jay. What a lemongrass tea. Well, I always, mine is being saved for later. Cause I'm going to swim after the podcast, but I stopped by field works today and picked up a two crawlers. One called tendrack. I still can't remember what the other one I think the other one about was called swash. I can't remember, but so I'll have that tonight that, and I have two chums left in the fridge. I have the sharks are putting out a beer now called chum.

00:18:52.860 --> 00:19:19.320
It's just okay. Yeah, it's a Gordon Beer-ish thing, but it's cool because the packaging is really nice. It's got the sharks in the bottle and everything. And I finally found a six-pack this weekend. How do I get that service at my house? Somebody just dropping off a beer for me. Hey, Eddie, you were saying something about sours. What were you trying to say there? Oh, that lately I can't really drink much sours even though I love them. It's kind of wrecking my stomach as I get older.

00:19:21.600 --> 00:19:23.580
I have to stop.

00:19:24.000 --> 00:19:24.140
Yeah.

00:19:24.340 --> 00:19:24.760
It sucks.

00:19:24.940 --> 00:19:25.380
I love them.

00:19:26.580 --> 00:19:27.700
I love the way they taste.

00:19:28.040 --> 00:19:28.560
What do you like?

00:19:28.700 --> 00:19:29.000
You know,

00:19:29.420 --> 00:19:31.040
throw me some things I might want to try.

00:19:31.440 --> 00:19:31.580
What?

00:19:31.640 --> 00:19:32.060
Sour wise?

00:19:32.240 --> 00:19:32.340
Yeah.

00:19:32.620 --> 00:19:32.840
I mean,

00:19:32.940 --> 00:19:34.320
I'm a big fan of Canteon obviously,

00:19:34.720 --> 00:19:35.880
but those are a little harder to get.

00:19:36.560 --> 00:19:38.340
I'm fortunate that I have a local brewery.

00:19:38.440 --> 00:19:39.620
I was just there this morning actually,

00:19:39.980 --> 00:19:43.320
picked up their membership bottle release that they did,

00:19:43.500 --> 00:19:44.660
but it's called Phantom Carriage.

00:19:44.780 --> 00:19:49.400
They're out in Torrance and they're a horror movie slash metal themed brewery.

00:19:49.480 --> 00:19:50.040
It's pretty awesome.

00:19:50.680 --> 00:20:19.340
What's it called again? Phantom Carriage. Is that the name of the brewery? Yeah. Phantom Carriage. Really great beers. Under the radar. Duke, what are you drinking? I am drinking local Droit Theory, The Death of Cthulhu, Russian Imperial. That's a cool looking bottle, man. Oh, dude. Their artwork on their bottle is wicked. Back it up a little. There you go. That's awesome stuff, man. I'm a big stout guy.

00:20:20.640 --> 00:20:43.880
I'm a big stealth guy too, but not the way you are. Although, yeah, I got, I got the, uh, brew Baca from old ox, the great Dr. Lang, Dr. Lang. Uh, it's their, uh, Bach lager coffee added. So brew Baca, I'm obviously a star Wars nerd. So I like the Chewbacca reference. Yeah. So, uh, what do you think guys? Let's jump into the news.

00:20:56.700 --> 00:21:17.920
Oh, I'm going to jump right into the first note. Okay, what we should say here is not the news, but the Battle Royal is about to begin. I have no comment on this because I didn't even see it. You're a lucky man for it. I didn't watch it either because I didn't give a flying fuck.

00:21:20.160 --> 00:21:50.060
You may have guessed by what people are saying. We're going to talk a little bit about Metallica and Lady Gaga at the Grammys. Stop you right there. It's the Grammys. We're metalheads. Yeah. Why would you watch? Well, I watched because the metal category had some good fucking bands this year. But they don't even show the metal category all the Grammys. Yeah, I know. But yeah, I watch it because my wife likes to watch it. And I was like, Metallica's going to play with Gaga. All right, I'll check it out. And I wasn't paying attention for most of it.

00:21:50.140 --> 00:21:52.000
But obviously I tried

00:21:52.340 --> 00:21:53.640
When I heard that Metallica was coming on

00:21:53.660 --> 00:21:56.140
I looked up and started watching it

00:21:56.140 --> 00:21:57.840
And I was immediately furious

00:21:58.559 --> 00:22:00.400
About the fact that James Hetfield's

00:22:00.760 --> 00:22:01.580
Microphone was turned off

00:22:02.320 --> 00:22:04.220
So actually I missed most of the performance

00:22:04.260 --> 00:22:05.220
I had to listen to it later

00:22:05.300 --> 00:22:05.800
Because I was

00:22:05.880 --> 00:22:07.280
God damn fucking shit

00:22:07.500 --> 00:22:07.800
Motherfuckers

00:22:08.040 --> 00:22:08.680
Fuck you

00:22:08.720 --> 00:22:10.320
I even tweeted out saying

00:22:10.520 --> 00:22:11.420
Fuck you Grammys

00:22:11.540 --> 00:22:13.020
Now George when you listened to it later

00:22:13.100 --> 00:22:15.180
Was that that Hungarian overdub

00:22:15.200 --> 00:22:15.980
That somebody did?

00:22:16.140 --> 00:22:16.880
Have you heard about that?

00:22:17.320 --> 00:22:17.420
No

00:22:17.740 --> 00:22:18.040
I'm interested

00:22:18.220 --> 00:22:18.840
Yeah I saw that

00:22:19.720 --> 00:22:20.120
Yeah

00:22:20.140 --> 00:22:50.040
Somebody went in and overdubbed his voice and it sounded great. Oh, you mean from one of the shows? I guess. I heard about that, yeah, but I didn't hear it. But I have a theory. I have a conspiracy theory. Oh, let's spread it. We haven't really directly said it, but so obviously on the Grammys, Metallica played with Lady Gaga and James Hetfield's mic was not working. It was probably Dave Mustaine. He probably pulled the mic like, those son of a bitches. And then when they intro,

00:22:50.140 --> 00:23:17.760
the song, Laverne Cox, I think the name is, just said, now Lady Gaga. Yeah, I know. I didn't even introduce Metallica. I was like, fuck you. But yeah, but I've seen a lot of people complaining about Metallica playing with Lady Gaga to begin with. And I'm sure that I'm the cheese that stands alone, but I like Lady Gaga. And I thought it was, I thought, despite. Is that a saying? I'm the cheese that stands alone? The cheese stands alone is a saying.

00:23:20.120 --> 00:23:49.360
Our fearless podcast leader just says he likes Lady Gaga. Eddie, do you want to fill in? Take my spot on the podcast now? I'll tell you, I don't mind Lady Gaga. I think she's interesting. I think she's, you know, I don't like all of her music. In fact, I actually hate her first novel. Inspirational, gorgeous, pretty. Not bad. But I like that she's just kind of weird. She is weird.

00:23:50.120 --> 00:24:19.960
Female Marilyn Manson. Yeah. But I would say I'm going to go ahead and say I was very upset at just hearing the headline like, oh, Lady Gaga Metallica are playing. I'm like, ah, it just sounds like a cash grab, you know? Well, yeah. Does anyone expect any different? It's the fucking Grammys. Exactly. I would expect them to just tell them no. Like, no. I mean, their idea is let's put whoever is the biggest and brightest in our eyes together and we don't care if the mashup sucks or not. It's just going to sell ad time. Well, I mean, you know, I, yeah,

00:24:20.120 --> 00:24:50.000
But you know what? I think Metallica lives in this weird Aussie place now. Which is to say, how cool and kind of spooky and weird did Aussie used to be? You know what I mean? Seriously, I know, John, you're a big Dyer of a Madman fan. And so on and so on. And I am too. That's one of my favorite 80s records. But I mean, now he's the guy who was on the Osbournes and all this stuff. And I'll tell you what happened, Jay. I would have preferred them to dig up Lou Reed and put his corpse up on stage. No, you don't have to do that. They could just use that hologram thing like they did for Dia.

00:24:50.140 --> 00:25:20.080
Right? Uh-huh. There you go. But my point being that Metallica lives in this whole other weird corporate place right now. And I mean, the fact that they can even be on the Grammys, and I don't mean because they're big enough. I mean, because they're palatable enough. I don't know, dude. The whole thing was... The audience looked pretty like... I watched the video of it. I watched the playback on YouTube or something. They had the fake chicks headbanging, but when they showed the audience, the audience was just kind of like, eh? Yeah. So it's the extension of the Super Bowl, basically, then, is all it is.

00:25:20.140 --> 00:25:49.720
Hey, she was awesome at the Super Bowl. That's the perfect way to put it. No, not her at the Super Bowl. I'm just saying the Super Bowl where they have these people run out on the field and scream and throw their hands up and the rest of the audience is like, who the fuck is up there right now? Yeah. It's also that style of event. It's just this big, huge American beer selling thing. You know what I mean? And by beer, I mean Budweiser. I don't know. Allow me to deliver my coup de gras. Get ready to throw it on your headphones and walk off. Here we go. It's just like, I have a couple for this episode. Mark my words right now.

00:25:49.760 --> 00:26:18.260
If fucking Queensryke is on anybody's top list later on, I'm fucking quitting the pod. I'm just giving a warning right now. Save yourself the trouble. Was that Mindcrime that year? Was that Empire? What came out in 88? That's a great album. This episode is just killing me already. Were you even born in 1988? I was five. Then shut up.

00:26:20.660 --> 00:26:47.320
All right, George, go. All right, so here it is. I'm going to see Gaga. Oh, no. All right, do me a favor, George. There goes Bukes out of here. He didn't disconnect, so maybe he'll be back. All right, just disconnect him. He's ranting. He's ranting. Oh, there's some stuff.

00:26:50.280 --> 00:27:19.560
Steph's going to be on the pod now. Hey Steph. Okay, I'm here to add a second girl to the pod. Now, did you think of that or did he? That is awesome. Because if he thought of that, kudos. That was the funniest thing you've ever done ever, Buk. No, man, it's good stuff. I will say I didn't buy the tickets. No, of course I didn't.

00:27:19.760 --> 00:27:49.740
George was quickly dialing his phone and caller 7 wins free tickets. George, just do us a big favor. Do not, I repeat, do not give a half an hour recap of the Lady Gaga show like you did with the Madonna show. Oh, you know I'm gonna. You know I'm gonna. Can I give credit to my best friend though, George? I give you props for coming on here and admitting that. I have no shame. I love metal. Metal is my favorite style of music, but it's not the only style of music. George, I'll give you

00:27:49.780 --> 00:27:53.180
If you wear your vodka and vest and corks paint to the show

00:27:54.120 --> 00:27:54.520
Nice

00:27:55.120 --> 00:27:57.700
Or put a Lady Gaga patch on your war vest

00:27:58.100 --> 00:27:58.300
No

00:27:59.080 --> 00:27:59.940
Now I will say this

00:28:00.419 --> 00:28:02.780
I respect her, I like her because she's weird

00:28:02.960 --> 00:28:04.420
And I do like some of her music

00:28:04.660 --> 00:28:06.380
But I don't know very much of it

00:28:06.700 --> 00:28:08.780
You're full shit, he's so lying

00:28:09.740 --> 00:28:10.620
I'm not, although

00:28:11.440 --> 00:28:13.180
Since the Super Bowl, because I was like

00:28:13.380 --> 00:28:15.760
Dude, she fucking jumped off the top of the fucking building

00:28:16.000 --> 00:28:17.560
I was like, I've been listening to her stuff

00:28:17.560 --> 00:28:47.220
She looked like a turtle swimming through the air. I don't know what the hell is going on there. You own her vinyl. No, I do not. He does have a meat suit, though. I do. Want to say it? All right, so let's circle back. So to me, what the most aggravating thing about this whole is you see Lars Yurik, and he's talking about, like, I think it would be great to have Lady Gaga as a fifth member of Metallica. Lars who? Yurik. Yurik?

00:28:47.560 --> 00:28:48.460
I don't know.

00:28:48.900 --> 00:28:49.300
Ackerfark.

00:28:49.320 --> 00:28:50.020
I'll ask Uric.

00:28:50.600 --> 00:28:51.240
Or whatever.

00:28:51.620 --> 00:28:51.740
Yeah.

00:28:51.900 --> 00:28:52.040
Anyway.

00:28:52.180 --> 00:28:52.460
Ulrich.

00:28:52.780 --> 00:28:53.160
Ulrich.

00:28:53.240 --> 00:28:53.340
Whatever.

00:28:53.680 --> 00:28:53.780
Yeah.

00:28:54.140 --> 00:28:54.820
He was joking.

00:28:55.080 --> 00:28:55.400
You know.

00:28:55.820 --> 00:28:59.400
And it pisses me off because they take something like that.

00:28:59.580 --> 00:29:01.560
He was probably fucking drunk when he said it.

00:29:02.080 --> 00:29:03.400
And he said it.

00:29:03.440 --> 00:29:03.820
Fucking around.

00:29:04.780 --> 00:29:05.940
Because obviously that's not.

00:29:06.100 --> 00:29:06.800
That wouldn't be true.

00:29:07.240 --> 00:29:07.360
But.

00:29:07.520 --> 00:29:08.220
You don't know man.

00:29:08.400 --> 00:29:10.300
They're old now and they do weird things.

00:29:10.860 --> 00:29:13.380
They just had her on at the Grammys.

00:29:13.560 --> 00:29:13.900
Everything.

00:29:14.260 --> 00:29:14.380
Yeah.

00:29:14.580 --> 00:29:14.820
But you know.

00:29:15.060 --> 00:29:16.600
I could see them doing it in an album.

00:29:16.880 --> 00:29:17.380
Like the Lou Reed.

00:29:19.800 --> 00:29:24.120
I'll tell you what I was I was not a fan of the latest uh I haven't I haven't been a fan of

00:29:24.240 --> 00:29:30.320
anything Metallica's done since the black album I'm one of those guys I'll tell you that I go I go farther back than that

00:29:31.920 --> 00:29:38.200
I like them all except for St. Anger and and load reload I like load well I mean yeah no I mean there's

00:29:38.280 --> 00:29:42.260
been hits and misses on all of them you know yeah yeah there's been hits and misses on all of them I mean this

00:29:42.320 --> 00:29:47.460
is the conversation we have pretty often someone the other day and I think it was Trevor uh about

00:29:49.020 --> 00:29:49.840
the Grammy thing.

00:29:50.160 --> 00:29:53.560
And I was like, you know, the new Overkill album just came out.

00:29:53.990 --> 00:29:56.760
As I like to call it, like Years of Decay.99.

00:29:57.540 --> 00:30:02.360
You know, like every album they've done in the last 25 years sounds about the same.

00:30:02.660 --> 00:30:06.880
And I was like, you know, if Metallica had made Master of Puppets another six or seven times,

00:30:07.300 --> 00:30:08.580
maybe people would really like that.

00:30:08.580 --> 00:30:09.640
But I wouldn't have liked that.

00:30:09.980 --> 00:30:12.840
I don't like everything that they've done throughout their career.

00:30:13.180 --> 00:30:42.920
But I like that there are eras that differentiate the different styles. And there's the good era and the suck era. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I was going to say, I appreciate a band that evolves their sound, but keep it good. You know what I mean? It doesn't have to be Master of Puppets thrash the whole time. But, you know, they try something out and it doesn't work. They move on to something else. Yeah. It seems like they've been kind of stuck in their ways since, like, that new album had two thrash songs and then the rest of it was load. Yeah.

00:30:44.000 --> 00:31:12.820
The problem is they've sucked longer than they were good. I just think the bigger issue here, guys, and it's nothing to be surprised with, is that I'm not watching the Grammy. It's not watching it for years. Do other artists share the stage? Do they do collaborations for everybody who comes on stage? It's very popular. It just shows that metal by itself still can't... I don't think they would prop them up there.

00:31:13.000 --> 00:31:13.180
themselves.

00:31:13.610 --> 00:31:16.360
Well, they don't even give out the reward during the award.

00:31:16.830 --> 00:31:16.940
Yeah.

00:31:17.640 --> 00:31:18.340
During the show.

00:31:18.720 --> 00:31:19.180
Cut him off.

00:31:19.740 --> 00:31:23.060
When you say prop him up there, are we still talking about Lou Reed here?

00:31:26.100 --> 00:31:33.800
To me, it is crazy to me that Metallica, even last year, I thought it was a crime

00:31:34.380 --> 00:31:37.260
that they have not done the Super Bowl halftime yet.

00:31:37.420 --> 00:31:37.580
Yeah.

00:31:37.700 --> 00:31:39.020
I don't think they ever will now.

00:31:39.160 --> 00:31:41.420
Didn't James really tell them to go fuck themselves or something like that?

00:31:41.540 --> 00:31:41.980
I think so.

00:31:41.980 --> 00:32:11.940
They were at Santa Clara. Yeah, that was weird. It is just there. In our time, yes, pop stars come and go, but Metallica, for a band from the United States, there doesn't get bigger than that. And the fact that they haven't put them on there, it's just another slap in the face to them. Yep. I think that performance with Lady Gaga would have been acceptable to me and a lot of other people if it was at the Super Bowl and Metallica got a chance to start with Master of Puppets and then bleed into the new song with Lady Gaga.

00:32:11.980 --> 00:32:41.960
I got people would be a little more like okay that was cool you know but yeah good point but yeah what happened at the Grammys was awful in many ways but I will say I don't I don't think a lot of metalheads the next day were sitting around upset about the Grammys because again it's not even on our radar just me I would have liked to put a fly on the wall of that green room afterwards Lars said that James was pretty livid I think it was the word he used yeah you know he kicked his microphone stand into the

00:32:42.020 --> 00:33:11.640
and then he threw his guitar when he was walking off the stage. I have to say, I had to give props to the roadie because the roadie caught it. Okay, I'll have to go watch it for that. Yeah, I'm pretty sure he did. If James Hetfield throws his guitar at you, you don't drop it. Yeah, no. So let's, the next little news item which ties into this one. Yeah, related to that, not that they showed it on TV, but Megadeth mistakenly won the best performance. Should have been Gojira. Yeah, absolutely. I agree.

00:33:11.680 --> 00:33:40.840
Or even Baroness. Both of them are good. Yeah. But when they were going to the stage to claim their reward, as Will would say, the house band played Master of Puppets, which according to Dave, he didn't even notice it was happening. But a lot of people were like, ooh, burn. That's why he cut the mic out. But Dave got back and was like, hey, I can understand if they're not good enough to play Megadeth.

00:33:41.660 --> 00:34:11.639
That was a really good comeback. And much more classy than you would expect from Mustang. They're all friends now, so they've got to be nice to each other. Exactly. And it should be said that if you possibly want to see these pop stars live, they have announced a tour that starts in May. Yeah, it's kind of funny. I'm going to Gaga, but I refuse to go to Metallica at M&T Park or Stadium or whatever it is there in Baltimore. I will say, though, I caught them

00:34:11.679 --> 00:34:41.540
on the summer sanitarium tour. What's it? 2000, 2001. Uh, and they played up at the Raven stadium, George, and it was like three hours of them playing live on those. It was pretty awesome. They're playing at the Raven stadium. Yeah. Uh, that sucks. I hate things like that, but that just reminded me of another show I'm going to, I'm going to Pittsburgh to Heinz stadium to see you two. What? On the Josh thing. Yeah. We're wasting this guy's time. Well, my wife really wanted,

00:34:41.679 --> 00:35:11.620
to go to this. But I'm a huge YouTube fan, so fuck you. But I've already seen them, and she hasn't, so we had to do it. And it's crazy because fucking Ticket Bastard and all of those fucking crooked motherfuckers, when they sell tickets, it's impossible, first of all, to get tickets without going to a reseller. And I just got through a long-ass battle with one of the resellers to get $400 worth of ticket back for a show that was canceled, and I never got refunded.

00:35:11.680 --> 00:35:41.640
George, wasn't your last stadium experience bad? Yes, that was the Foo Fighters at RFK, which you know the stadium's old if it's still named after a famous person and not a corporation. That was a shit show. We left way early. But anyway. I think we just baited you into admitting to another show you went to. I liked the Foo Fighters. I liked the Foo Fighters. That was good. Nicely done, P. Did you say you kissed your male roommate at college one time? We're in Maryland, D.C. We had to go to Pittsburgh to find

00:35:42.240 --> 00:36:11.360
affordable tickets. Jay, has there even been this month's Valken talk on the show yet? No, man. We're really stuck in the pop world here. Exactly. George is going to Valken. There hasn't even been this much talk yet. Wait till I get to my synth wave and dungeon synth. Yeah. Okay. Let's move on. Yeah. Moving on. Speaking of pop. Yeah. All right. Will, why don't you take this next one? Yeah. So go ahead. Play this out. No, don't play the sound effect. Yeah. So Trish Doan, the bassist for Kitty, she died.

00:36:11.680 --> 00:36:41.380
And it's not quite clear how she died that I could see. Does that mean you were there? That you could see? Yeah, that's not clear. I don't know what's wrong. Shame over. That's a life of Agony song. Sweet. So yeah, it's a little sad. I do enjoy my kitty, as everyone knows, and I get made fun of, but screw you guys! I'm going home. Indeed. She's not the same original bass player, is she? No. There might be like one original member in that band. Not that they admit to. The sisters.

00:36:41.680 --> 00:37:11.640
The two sisters are original. I don't know about them anyway. Not that I've ever seen them in concert at Jaxx or anything. Yeah, like you don't have it memorized. Well, I don't know those two sisters. Wait till you see his kitty tattoo. The Lander sisters. Mercedes and something. Yeah, it is sad. It is sad. And it's too bad because we can't. She's pretty young. She's only, what, 31? Yeah, 31. Yeah. Too bad. Another doom and gloom. Tony Sarka, a.k.a. It, has also died. He's a black metal pioneer. He was in bands like Abrupt

00:37:13.340 --> 00:37:41.640
and more. I don't know if any other guys are familiar with him, but I was. And I was surprised. He was only like 45, I think. Did you know he died in George? It didn't say. So I'm curious. I think it was right after the Grammys when he saw Gaga and Metallica. It might have been. He was part of that whole black circle. We all died a little on the inside. Some of us more than others, apparently. I think he was Italian, but he was still

00:37:41.660 --> 00:37:47.460
of the whole black circle Norwegian scene thing. He used to talk with, you know,

00:37:47.860 --> 00:37:56.180
Euronymous and those folks. But I know at some point there was a falling out and he had to go into hiding because he was afraid they were going to kill him. So he's old school or was old school.

00:37:56.380 --> 00:38:03.580
Yeah, previously. It's a bummer when anybody dies, man. Even, you know, especially musicians because you connect with them personally with their music.

00:38:03.820 --> 00:38:09.780
So it bumps. I get assholes like whenever I'm like bummed out, like when Bowie died, I'd fucking lost my shit.

00:38:09.880 --> 00:38:39.680
And people are like, dude, you don't even know him. He's like, yeah, I don't give a shit. I grew up on that stuff, you know, his music and his movies and everything. So when Carrie Fisher died, that was a mess. Yeah, it's not people that give that like, are you really that fucking jaded? I mean, I hate most human beings, but I'm not that jaded. Like I can appreciate if someone's bummed out from that, you know. Oh, congratulations. You can add five more to the list right now. Wait, what? Us five. He's going to add to the list of human beings that he hates.

00:38:39.860 --> 00:39:09.840
Oh, gotcha. Not quite as dark, but some other bummer news. Found out that Dallas Toler Wade left Nile, which sucks because we're seeing him in a couple of weeks, and I guess we're going to try out the new guy right away. And I mean, you know, we had him on the show once, and you may remember, and I meant this when I said to him, he was sort of like this, I mean, Carl is kind of like, I think, the visual kind of front of that band after a fashion, but really Dallas did more of the singing. He's an intense guitar player, and he played guitar and sang over the most

00:39:10.559 --> 00:39:39.040
And I just always sort of saw him as that band's secret weapon. I don't know. Yeah, that's too bad. He says he's going to focus on something else, but it might just be because, I mean, what is the band Toxic? Narcotic Wasteland. Narcotic Wasteland. But it might just be because, just like anybody else, you know, there's really no money in it, and he's got to get ready to go on a long tour, and does he want to step away from maybe some job he's got? I don't know. I'm just guessing. It's just too bad. You know what's fucking up? A lot of people were bummed, by the way. Facebook, like under the blabbermouth news, people were like, what the fuck?

00:39:40.640 --> 00:40:09.520
I just wanted to point out he's actually on Skype right now. We could totally like fucking call his ass right now and be like, dude, what the fuck? But that was probably a little rude. I game with him from time to time. Yeah. I looked it up. It was, I looked up the article just to see why and it's burned out, right? Pretty much is kind of the deal. Well, I mean, the only, the Nile statement said because he's going to focus on his other thing, you know, but I would say more than one guys are getting hurt. It's kind of like when Kirk left down to do Crowbar more.

00:40:11.059 --> 00:40:39.540
Yeah, it might be, but I think more and more guys are getting burned out just because it is like running uphill more than ever these days. They probably don't come up with much money from the tour. You don't sell any albums. Nobody bought the new Nile record. I mean, because nobody buys any new record. I was sorry to hear that. I was sorry to hear it. Who are you seeing them with, George? Overkill? Is that the tour? Yeah, Overkill, Amorphous, Swallow the Sun. Are you going to the Howard Theater? Yep. All those bands together? It's only one of, I think, what, four or five shows they're doing. We're all

00:40:39.580 --> 00:41:08.880
The Four Bands are together. They just both happen to be hitting this area at the same time as they decided to do a combined show in DC. And I really want to see Swallow the Sun because the keyboard player is leaving at the end of the tour. Yeah. I'm going to see them with Amorphous, but I had no idea they were matching up like that in your area. That's amazing to see those four bands at once. Like, really, that's a killer bill. Yeah, there's no filler on that thing. It's killer. Who else is going? Will's going? I haven't got my ticket yet, but I'll go. I'm going. Oh, John's going right now. Again, nice to be last on the fucking list, boys.

00:41:09.580 --> 00:41:38.280
I told you this day I got my ticket. It's probably still available. It can't be that expensive. Do you have the internet at your house? I think he's got short-term memory loss because I told him as soon as it happened. I thought we were going to the one at the soundstage for Amorphous. No, I told you because I think we can't because we're going to be in Philadelphia. Plus, yeah, we're going to be in Philly. You're going to be with us in Philadelphia. God, this is a disaster. There's so many shows this year.

00:41:40.260 --> 00:42:08.800
I don't know about you guys, but here in D.C., Maryland, Virginia, what happened with March and April? It's like a gazillion shows out of nowhere. They're all over the place. I think more of this is here when I'm out there by you guys. We had a dry spell for the longest time, and all of a sudden all these shows are coming to this area. I'm super stoked that living in California now, everything passes through here. Everything passes through California. When I was living in Florida, it was awful. It's a wasteland in Florida for shows.

00:42:09.580 --> 00:42:39.120
to get a lot of bands to go down that way. There's no venues. Well, it's because it's out of your way, I suppose. But I mean, I just, Eddie, there's been places I've lived where nobody came through or rarely came through. And I love being in the Bay Area, man. Everybody comes. I choose not to go to shows now. I'm like, no, I've been in too many. I don't want to go to that one tonight or whatever. You know, it's actually a really good point because like Dying Fetus is playing tonight. I was like, oh, I'd like to go to that. But it's like, oh, you know, catch some other show. Like we're spoiled in this area. I'm thinking about people living like Wichita. They're like, what?

00:42:39.600 --> 00:43:09.500
The Show? Fuck you, man. You got a metalhead. Yeah, they are. Yeah, I'm thinking about skipping tonight. Every time I die, it's playing pretty close by, and I'm just kind of like, I've seen them a thousand times. I'm so tired. I don't know. It sucks. They're a great band, and I know a couple of the guys, so it's kind of shitty to miss it. And is there one band that's eluded you, who you want to see? Ooh, damn. Let's see. Not really, man. I pretty much, I mean, except for bands that broke up before I got to see them.

00:43:09.580 --> 00:43:14.480
live like botch or something you know uh but no i've pretty much seen

00:43:14.640 --> 00:43:20.620
everyone i've wanted to see um at some point i go to a lot of shows yeah way too many shows but

00:43:20.760 --> 00:43:26.980
yeah i even traveled long distances like i've we me and like three dudes from the band and we just

00:43:27.200 --> 00:43:32.960
drove up to ashville from miami to go see mastodon uh do crack the sky in its entirety or you know

00:43:33.030 --> 00:43:37.140
stuff like that like well it's an adventure you know like hey we'll go to north carolina and drink some

00:43:37.160 --> 00:44:04.760
and go see a fucking amazing show, you know? Right on. Yeah. One more departure to note. Van Williams has left Ashes of Aries to focus on his other band, Ghost Ship Octavius. So not as huge a deal. I mean, Van, Buk and I have met Van. He's a really good guy. And, you know, it's great for Matt Bottle to have him on hand to work with that Ashes of Aries stuff. But Ghost Ship Octavius is cool too, so, you know.

00:44:04.800 --> 00:44:34.440
If there is a silver lining for this, in his statement, apparently his wife was battling cancer of some sort. And apparently last year, I think George and I, when we talked last year, it sounded pretty bad. But he ends his statement saying, you know, thank you to the band. There will be a new Ashes album. It's going to kick ass. But he says on a good note, his wife has been doing much, much better. Oh, right on. I'm pleased to hear that. Isn't the guitar player in Ashes of Aries?

00:44:34.820 --> 00:45:04.420
That other guy that was singing, isn't he in Ghost Ship Octavius too? He is. So what the hell? Van's like, hey, I'm going to go focus on our other band. You can stay here if you want. It could be, George. It could be just here it says, or maybe it's doing much, much better. They're happy to be living and taking every day as a blessing. So maybe you just had to take a step back. Hey, Buick, in that same statement, didn't he just say, he just mentioned Matt Barlow and Freddie, didn't he? Yes.

00:45:04.600 --> 00:45:34.560
I've talked about them, so I wonder if it's just those guys now. Yeah, I'm confusing the guys. Freddie's the bass player. Yeah. Yeah, so okay, that's my bad. And it sounded like Ghost Ship is going to be doing a lot of touring, and I don't know how much touring Ashes of Aries is going to be doing, so maybe Van's going with the shore bed here. Show me the money. It's nice to see, it's never good to see guys we like leave, but I always take note of the fact that it looks like it's on positive. Oh, yeah, I got

00:45:34.600 --> 00:46:04.260
I've got that same feeling too reading it. Maybe it was just a little too casual for him. Maybe it's just like, you guys don't do enough. I've got to check out. We've met a lot of band members, but meeting Van in an hour or so, George and I spent with him, I wish nothing but the best for this guy. He's a good guy. He's an amazing guy. Was Van the one that had a lot of physical issues himself there for a while and never more? Was he the one that had crones and all that shit? No, that was the guitarist.

00:46:05.980 --> 00:46:33.780
I think it was in one of your death metal bands actually. The guitarist. I can't think of his name. But it was somebody else Jay that had that problem. The hits keep coming. 2017 will not feature a barbecue. Oh god. Such a bummer. Any specific reason for that? No, no, no, no. Eddie, Eddie, Eddie, Eddie, don't be bummed. The only people who should be bummed here is me who went by myself again last year. Don't even again. That's the only time you went by yourself. Okay, you're right. I went to the last two.

00:46:34.400 --> 00:47:03.520
I am bummed because guar and guarbecue has quickly become my favorite day. It's a day of swimming and cookout and beer and music. I took my wife last year. We were in the front row getting sprayed in the face by fake blood. It was awesome. Now this year, no guarbecue and an extremely curtailed Maryland death fest. What the hell? Yeah. I'm going to fuck it, man.

00:47:03.680 --> 00:47:12.380
says they're taking this year off to do extensive touring around the country, work on a new album.

00:47:13.940 --> 00:47:19.700
The reason I'm bummed out is because I used to work for Cigar City Brewing. We used to make them a beer, the barbecue beer.

00:47:20.220 --> 00:47:26.980
Good point. What happened, it seemed like this year it was the same beer that it was two years ago.

00:47:27.580 --> 00:47:31.880
The Odorous Ale again, but it was different. Two years ago it was the green label.

00:47:32.240 --> 00:48:02.220
Last year was the red label, and this year was a repeat of last year's beer. It's two years ago. It's because it was good. Well, it was a good beer. It's been a year since I worked there, but I would have to assume it had something to do with the buyout, because Cigar City got bought out by Oscar Blues. Oh, I did not know that. Yeah, Oscar Blues Holding Company now is the owners of Cigar City, and that might have put a hurdle in the

00:48:02.240 --> 00:48:30.560
in place. I've spoken to a bunch of the brewers and they're having to go through some more people in terms of getting their recipes approved. The last thing I did before I left was... Can I say, fuck the old pale ale? I hate that beer. Overrated piece of crap. I feel like there's some history there. Yeah, right? Tell me how you really feel. Give me diarrhea! Did you find yourself under an underpass there, Buke?

00:48:33.080 --> 00:49:02.220
Oh, man. No. So what I was saying was before I left, I did a collaboration beer with Killswitch. Me and the guys and David Castro, who's the lead brewer on the project, we were working on that for a couple of years. And when the purchase happened, they had to put a hold on it and added a whole bunch of new hoops we have to jump through to get the beer approved and pass through their systems. It's just been delayed. But we announced that was actually the first episode of the Rock and Roll Beer Guy podcast was me and

00:49:02.280 --> 00:49:03.940
the beer collaboration.

00:49:04.550 --> 00:49:06.260
And then I figured it'd be a good place to do that.

00:49:07.560 --> 00:49:11.000
You know, we haven't, from the looks of it, it'll be ready in April.

00:49:11.390 --> 00:49:13.680
And I already got label art and everything, so it looks cool.

00:49:13.900 --> 00:49:16.700
I'm excited for that to finally come to fruition.

00:49:17.340 --> 00:49:24.420
I was talking to the brewery that might send me out there because Killswitch is playing a show for the launch of the beer and everything, so it should be pretty exciting.

00:49:24.970 --> 00:49:25.100
Okay.

00:49:25.480 --> 00:49:30.280
On a quick note, I have to mention, since you just mentioned Killswitch, one of my favorite bands.

00:49:30.460 --> 00:49:31.600
Eddie, we should start a pod.

00:49:32.940 --> 00:50:00.720
Those of you who are fans of Howard Jones, he just did a collaboration with Jamie Josta for the new Josta album called Chasing Demons. Never everlasting love. It is fucking amazing. Nobody likes my Howard Jones joke? Come on. None of us like that music, so we don't get it. I saw him last year. Would you rather have Killswitch Engage or Metallica Gaga? No, Metallica Gaga. See, Will just did that face like, oh, no, no, no.

00:50:04.279 --> 00:50:04.640
Yeah.

00:50:06.020 --> 00:50:14.580
Well, I gotta say, the last time I saw Killswitch, it was a pretty good damn show, but that was because Sentenced was there, and we were getting our asses beating that pit. At least I was.

00:50:16.040 --> 00:50:26.060
Yeah, man, they put on a great show. I mean, I've become pretty good friends with Adam now, and it's a great dude, great guitarist, man. One of the nicest people I've ever met, really.

00:50:26.060 --> 00:50:28.480
One of the best guys for the metal scene.

00:50:28.540 --> 00:50:58.300
Yeah, for sure. I mean, his project with Corpse Grinder, Serpentine Dominion, so sick, dude. Which Adam and Jesse also announced they're going to be working on new Times of Grace materials. Yeah, yeah. I haven't heard any of it yet, but I'm sure I'll hear some of it demoed. Because I heard the Serpentine album months before they released it, just from hanging out with him. We live about two hours away from each other, so whenever he's in town, I try to go down to San Diego. He'll come up here and we'll go brewery hopping,

00:50:58.340 --> 00:51:28.300
because we just love drinking beer together. Right on. Well, speaking about a couple who was probably drunk when they did this, the Bolivian couple has named their newborn son Iron Maiden. He is going to be the coolest kid ever. You know, I almost had to call bullshit on the story because they had a picture of the couple and the kid, and I was looking at them. I'd been down to Bolivia. I was like, that girl's pretty good looking. I've never seen a girl in Bolivia.

00:51:29.160 --> 00:51:58.320
I thought you were about to start that like I was in Bolivia once and that girl looks familiar you know maybe some night was a little you know let me ask you this is that kid's middle name fucking yes no his friends are just gonna call him Ron yeah there you go well I'll tell you what I think it's ridiculous if they they would have taken into consideration what an Iron Maiden really is yeah yeah well they may be fans of Duran Duran because his middle name is

00:51:58.340 --> 00:52:28.320
Duran Ruiz. Why would they ruin that? Iron Duran Maiden Ruiz? What is it? You know what they'll get us thinking about it? If you're going to name a child after a band, is there a better band to name your child after? No. Not to put you guys... Exactly. Dio, but you can't be named after a god. What's interesting about it is in the article where the

00:52:53.640 --> 00:52:56.420
What were your parents think when they named you Buke?

00:53:00.620 --> 00:53:28.080
Mid-vomit. Think of the trouble they could have saved themselves if they just would have named that kid Rudolf Hitler. You know what I mean? They could have been like, no, it's not quite. Come on, man. It's there, sort of. Anybody that has the last name Hitler is probably not going to keep it. Yeah, probably not. Yeah. Stan Hitler. Frank Hitler. Yeah. So Mr. Lordy of Lordy says that,

00:53:28.120 --> 00:53:56.780
Heavy Metal is no longer the law of the land in Finland. It's all hip-hop and rap now. I don't know about that, man. See a bunch of Finns getting drunk and, you know, freestyling or whatever they call that. My note was, SAD. Make Finland Metal Again. All caps. Make Finland Metal Again. Good one. Holy shit, we should make those hats, guys. Just saying. We know somebody that could sell this for us.

00:53:58.120 --> 00:54:28.080
I've got those for us over there. We'll do that. We'll put like the... You put the Metalheads podcast logo on one side, put the rock and roll beer guy on the other side, and just put make Finland medal again. Think of this. Finland has... Okay, Finland has Nightwish, who they have gone so far away from even any medal that they had. Children of Bodom, who is so pop. Stradivarius, I like them, but they're doing the same stuff over and over again. Sentence isn't even around anymore. So now the article, you know... I've got at least one on my...

00:54:28.120 --> 00:54:57.640
My List Later. Probably the biggest metal band I would say from Finland right now is Swallow the Sun. Truth. And maybe Amorphous. Yeah, probably a little bit bigger. Yeah, I would say yeah. Insomnium and Moon Sorrow. Yeah, so they still got the metal, but it has the most metal bands per capita. Yeah, yeah. Have you guys been there? Any of you? Any of you actually been to Finland? Yep, I have. Does it make you want to write metal riffs? I was there in the summer, so it was just light out all the time. So it was the opposite.

00:54:58.100 --> 00:55:26.740
Oh, God. Yeah. So our good buddy, Tim Lambesis, is apparently released from prison. When I say good buddy, I mean dickhead. Apparently he's been out for a couple of months now and he's engaged to be married to some poor clueless woman. No, no. This is the woman that he was dating when he was trying to kill his wife. She knows exactly who he is. Cuckoo. Yeah. How do you give this guy a fucking ounce of anything? I don't know.

00:55:27.640 --> 00:55:56.740
He tried to hire Hitman to kill his wife. And he's a Christian! End of story. Remember, remember, Will just said it. As I Lay Dying at their core was a Christian metal band. Oh, but he's not Christian anymore. He's backtracking that now. Oh. Yeah. I don't know if you guys read the George Lynch. Like a Satan made him do it? Yeah, exactly. Remember, he was blaming steroids. Yeah. Did you read any of the George Lynch stuff? George Lynch tore him apart. Because I guess, you know, he's connected with George Lynch to some degree. I can't remember why.

00:55:56.800 --> 00:56:01.800
But I just thought it was interesting that he trashed him.

00:56:02.240 --> 00:56:03.420
Don't be busting on Mr. Scary.

00:56:03.960 --> 00:56:05.940
Oh, I don't. No, I don't. He doesn't bother me.

00:56:06.040 --> 00:56:10.660
I'm just, you know, it's not like I get up every day and, like, you know, kiss the poster on my wall or anything.

00:56:11.200 --> 00:56:15.160
Yeah, this just shows you how prison is in this country.

00:56:15.780 --> 00:56:20.140
Wasn't his sentence years, and he served a fraction of it.

00:56:20.340 --> 00:56:20.480
Yeah.

00:56:21.200 --> 00:56:23.240
All right, well, enough time with this asshole.

00:56:23.500 --> 00:56:26.040
Let's move on to something actually interesting.

00:56:27.120 --> 00:56:55.980
So there's a book coming out in March that I've heard about it for, I swear, a couple of years now. Whatever reason, it never came out, or at least it hasn't been released over here. It's called Damn the Machine, and it's the story of Noise Records, which, unless you came up in the 80s, you may not know them. I mean, they were in the 90s. I think they didn't actually die off until like 2000 or somewhere around there. But Noise Records in the 80s was the coolest shit. I mean, they had Voivod and Running Wild and Celtic Frog.

00:56:56.180 --> 00:57:25.800
And all the cool bands were on noise. So I'm really looking forward to reading that. Wow, so I read that completely wrong because I thought when you put noise records, I thought you were referring to bands that make noise, like the genre. See? And I was kind of like, hmm, that doesn't even sound interesting. Like, I want to read it. Yeah, it's just feedback. That's all it is. Like noise, playing with knobs. Right, right. It was written by Arthur Rizek. Hey, Eddie, it's okay.

00:57:26.160 --> 00:57:55.960
If your script notes are actually Z's, I understand. I was like, no, don't care about that. Don't care about that. Do you remember Arthur? Was that a joke or do you not remember Arthur? I honestly don't. I know the name, but you need to fill me out. Eternal Champion and Summerlands. I'm sorry. Sorry, Arthur. Way to be part of the pod. About, what, three podcasts ago? Yeah. Jay, do you remember Chemist? Yeah. Jeez. Hey, Jay, I'm John. Chemist. I'm with you guys.

00:57:56.180 --> 00:57:59.200
this podcast. Yeah. It's John. Hi. I'm Bukes.

00:58:01.200 --> 00:58:02.220
Hey, I'm Jay.

00:58:03.859 --> 00:58:05.180
Let's go back to those old days.

00:58:07.400 --> 00:58:09.380
Sorry, Arthur. I know you're not listening, but.

00:58:09.540 --> 00:58:11.060
Sorry. Well, he's not anymore.

00:58:11.630 --> 00:58:14.520
I printed up with him on Facebook and everything.

00:58:19.360 --> 00:58:21.320
That's why I remember. He's that guy on my feet.

00:58:21.620 --> 00:58:23.740
But were you saying that he wrote the book, George? Is that what you're saying?

00:58:23.920 --> 00:58:53.780
No, I was. Well, because remember when Arthur was on, he was talking about his love of noise music. Okay. Okay. It was a very, very obscure reference. I know. Don't act like you're that makes it helps you out at all, Jay. I'm just trying to get out of this moment. Let me help you out. Totally understand. Can we move on, please? So Memoriam released a lyric video for their song Surrounded by Death from their forthcoming album. And if you're not familiar,

00:58:54.720 --> 00:59:23.080
is a combination of Bolt Thrower, which is awesome, and Benediction, which is also pretty cool. Of course, the singing done by Carl from Bolt Thrower. And I liked it. I don't know if anybody else listened to it, but his vocals aren't quite as harsh as they were with Bolt Thrower. I wonder if the Memoriam title is sort of a reference to the drummer. It is. It was. Okay. Yeah, totally. Yeah, I had never heard of them before seeing the script, and I looked it up, and I liked it. It was a bit simple, but it was good.

00:59:23.100 --> 00:59:52.020
It wasn't quite up to like bolt thrower standard. So I was like, I don't know. Do you like bolt thrower, Eddie? They're okay. I mean, I'm not a huge, huge fan, but if they come on, I leave it on. It's not like I don't switch it off. Another video that just came out, Nurgle from Behemoth, his side project, Me and That Man, released a second video called Ain't Much Lovin'. And I gotta tell you, man, first of all, it's really cool. And that's because I'm a huge Nick Cave fan.

00:59:52.080 --> 01:00:22.040
And Nargill is really a dead ringer for Nick Cave. So he needs to start putting some of these cool, clean vocals on the Behemoth records. Wait, wait for it. What? The sound of all the Behemoth fans burning me in effigy. Hey, he should team up with Gaga. That would be great. Just kidding. No way. They don't need that on the Behemoth, but it is really cool. Well, he's not that cool, so I'll have to go with Katy Perry. Yeah. Did I mention I'm going to see Katy Perry? I'll tell you, I really enjoyed it. I wasn't expecting to enjoy it, because I

01:00:22.080 --> 01:00:52.040
I love Behemoth. And then I was just like, oh, come on, really? But it was good. It was really good. And I don't like Nick Cave. Oh, wow. And then I don't, not that it's bad. It was nice having Eddie on and moving on. Yeah, no, I just, I couldn't, I listened to a few songs. Somebody, you know, was recommending to me and I just couldn't, I couldn't get into it. It was just really weird. Well, you know, some of his really early stuff is kind of weird, but like anything from like, I can't even think of a year, but like anything after like the first four albums or so is a lot different than the

01:00:52.080 --> 01:00:59.780
the earlier stuff. So maybe I'll give it another shot, listen to some of the older things.

01:01:00.380 --> 01:01:08.580
Well, I didn't like the Nurgle thing as much as the first one, but I'm still very interested to hear the record and everything. I thought the first song was really cool. The second one's fine.

01:01:09.340 --> 01:01:13.180
I need to get that Behemoth beer, man. I have an extensive collection of band beers.

01:01:13.880 --> 01:01:16.660
They're hard to get. Have you ever had one, Will? Have you got them?

01:01:17.880 --> 01:01:18.740
We'll talk about that in a minute.

01:01:19.340 --> 01:01:49.320
Because I don't think anybody has imported those. Well, I have never seen one. We'll get to it in a minute. I thought it was such an interesting and strange development. Marduk was playing here, and I was F considering going because it's a venue that I like, and it's not far from my house. Anyway, and they canceled it because the chief of police wrote a letter to the venue suggesting that it was a bad idea for them to play because we just went through this whole thing here where UC campus was burning down because Yarny moved

01:01:49.340 --> 01:02:19.320
or whatever that fucking guy's name is. Does he know his name? Because I honestly don't know it. No. John Yapanopoulos? There you go. Let's go with it. That guy was going to speak at UC and there was a bunch of riots and it got ugly and there were fires and stuff. So the chief of police reached out to this venue and said, yeah, I don't know if I like this kind of like Nazi type thing coming through here. And they canceled the show. Not Nazi type thing. Come on. Oh, hey, that was his words, not mine. No, I know. I know. I'm not quoting anybody. But yeah, and that was just such a weird development. I'm not personally angry or

01:02:19.380 --> 01:02:49.300
anything. I don't know, Sign of the Times or something like that. I'm angry for the free speech aspect of it. Well, I mean, I know I agree. And I also think it was a miscalculation on the police chief's part because I don't think that would have happened. I don't think anybody's going to. It's a meta show. I thought that I thought that I read that there were some groups that were going to protest the show. I apologize. I could be wrong. I should read more than just headlines. I thought I read that that there was a concern that that was going to happen. What do they call the black hats or whatever right now?

01:02:49.360 --> 01:03:19.120
now that just show up and just stir up shit everywhere. Well, the ones who did the thing in UC. Yeah. I think they're called, I refer to them as moving targets. That's nice for speak. I'm being nice, Will. So yeah, it was just sort of weird. I mean, it was sort of weird to see that happen. I don't recall that happening in the Bay Area as long as I've been here that some show was canceled under such circumstances. And again, I don't know if I was going to go or not, but I was thinking about it. It was like one of those, it's a real cool little venue. I love it. And it's the kind of place you can walk up and pay day of,

01:03:19.200 --> 01:03:49.120
Price and it's no big deal. And I've never seen them. So anyway, weird. Show canceled. So this next one is, I'm sure Eddie, he mentioned it earlier, was kind of like scratching his head as to why the fuck is this on their script? And this is from my buddy Buke. This goes out to him from our last episode. Yeah, it's on the script. Linkin Park released their new single called Heavy, and it is not. They relinquished the last vestige of anything remotely heavy or even rock related. This was totally

01:03:49.160 --> 01:04:19.120
a little pop handy. Not even rock at all. George, I just want to give a big fuck you for even making me watch that. I didn't make you watch it. I thought you had to go check it out. What the fuck is that? Will, you know what you're dipping your toe into, though. Wait, Will, you fell for that? I didn't watch. I'm trying to be professional. I try and read all the news stories. But I mean, even for fucking Linkin Park, isn't that really pathetic? Yeah, I did show prep. I didn't watch so I can come up with a really pissed off

01:04:21.900 --> 01:04:49.120
I just thought it was hilarious. I was like, what is this? We all know Linkin Park. Forget the topic when we were mentioning them. It was that Facebook post. Yeah, it was the bands that inspired you when you were a teenager. I didn't listen to a lot of music, but Linkin Park was what I listened to. I listened to some of it too back then. I'm still a young cat, okay? I know I'm the sexiest one here in the pod, but Linkin Park was my

01:04:49.140 --> 01:05:19.100
You know, what I listened to in my high school years. And I know it's hard for you guys to say this, but you have to admit, Linkin Park is one of the few stadium acts still going right now. So maybe this is Linkin Park trying to stay current. I'm sure it is, but it still sucks. Let's be honest. Kids today, as I'm holding my daughter, she doesn't listen to music yet, but kids today don't even listen to real music. They listen to electronic music.

01:05:19.160 --> 01:05:49.020
Like drumming, bass, all that crap. Gaga beats the shit out of Linkin Park. Just saying. I have a little story about Linkin Park, if I can say it. Lay it out. Are they like related to you and like family and we just insulted them? I'm actually Mike Shinoda. No, damn it. You wouldn't know his name. Wild. I'm actually the guitar player with the headphones, right? Is it the drummer? I don't know. Whatever. But many, many years ago when their first album came out,

01:05:49.140 --> 01:06:19.120
I was going to concerts with a group of friends and we would all, we would call each other the wrecking crew. We would wear boots and like mouth guards and we would just go and just jump in the pit and regardless of whatever band was performing in the background, we just wanted to rage out and whatever. I love the mouth guards. Yeah, right. One night, I vaguely remember what happened, but I got trucked really hard and then there was like the sea of people started stepping on me and like falling over on the ground.

01:06:19.940 --> 01:06:21.280
and I passed out.

01:06:21.440 --> 01:06:23.320
And then I woke up on the floor.

01:06:23.680 --> 01:06:28.620
There was a cop ripping open my shirt and like trying to bring me back to life, I guess, or whatever.

01:06:29.160 --> 01:06:29.760
Awesome, dude.

01:06:30.040 --> 01:06:36.000
And the band had stopped the show and they were like waiting to see if I was dead.

01:06:36.260 --> 01:06:38.020
Like everybody was just like, is that guy okay?

01:06:38.780 --> 01:06:41.160
And then once I got back up on my feet, they were like, all right, awesome.

01:06:41.200 --> 01:06:42.020
And they just kept playing.

01:06:42.340 --> 01:06:45.460
I'm like, wait, did you get a t-shirt from the band at least?

01:06:46.200 --> 01:06:47.100
No, fuck them.

01:06:50.019 --> 01:07:16.720
And I assume you're saying this was a Lincoln Park show. Well, no, it was one of, so Florida had these big radio festivals. It would just be all kinds of bands, you know, Disturbed and Lincoln Park and whatever. And we would just go to all of them, regardless of who was playing, because we didn't really care. We just wanted heavy noise so we can go rage out in the pit. Yeah, but yeah, I know how these punks are. Yeah, you wanted to go there and act like you didn't like it, right? You were waiting to get down with the sickness, I know.

01:07:17.120 --> 01:07:46.680
Totally, totally. The one part that he sings in Spanish, La Gente from the Barrio. Awful, awful Spanish in that song. Awful everything. All right, I've got one last thing I just wanted to add before we move on. I want to give a shout out to Shile Magonar for signing with Napalm Records, and they're going to be reissuing their album Emergence. We featured them on one of our early episodes, and they're a killer band, so you can probably find it somewhere now.

01:07:46.760 --> 01:08:16.720
But if not, when it gets reissued, definitely check it out. It's some cool stuff. All right, we're going to take a quick break, and then we will be back with something new. This is Zach, and this is Dan, and we're in Chemist, and you're listening to the Metal Heads podcast. All right, we're back, and we've got a new segment for you. It's still in its embryonic stages, but for the moment, we're calling that Brew Heads News with Will. Give you your beer picks. Yeah, and it's a perfect episode to sort of debut this, because we've got

01:08:16.759 --> 01:08:46.680
I got Eddie on, the rock and roll beer guy. Yeah, thank you. So yeah, there was a, it was kind of interesting. There was some news recently on all the heavy metal websites about Behemoth coming out with a new beer, their own first beer. I was like, wait a minute. I think I've seen Behemoth come out with a beer before. And so really, so, so Behemoth has come out with a line of beers, four beers from a band, from a brewery called Perun, which is in Poland.

01:08:47.240 --> 01:09:16.700
So this brewery, which is in the city of Piaggiano or something like that. I'll let Butte pronounce that one. But it's just south of Warsaw. But this brewery, Perun started off as a contract brewery and they're making some Behemoth beers. I think they got their own brewery now. But yeah, they've made four beers now for Behemoth. And the one that everyone kind of was talking about recently was this Sacrum Belgian IPA. I don't think it's really new. I think the news is,

01:09:16.740 --> 01:09:46.200
is that they're opening up for exports now, which is what, Jay, when you're asking about. But I didn't see anything about exporting to the United States. I think it's mostly just in Europe at this point. So they're exporting from Europe to Europe, if that's even a thing, I guess. Anyway, I don't even know where I was. But so. You're saying the beer names. Yeah, the brewery, Peru, and they make Profanum Black IPA for Behemoth. It's the Saccharum Belgian IPA, Heretic American Amber Ale, and the Baphomet Russian Imperial Stout.

01:09:46.759 --> 01:10:16.720
go under the behemoth sort of label and you check it out online and stuff um so i have to give a credit to um behemoth because they actually have a pretty cool youtube video out it's all black and white it's all shot very film noir kind of thing and um and so you know the guys in the band behemoth they go to the brewery they check it out um you know they're drinking beer there i don't think they're really actually doing any work to brew the beer but they you know they it's not they're just not slapping their name right uh on a beer you know like acdc or metallica does so you know they're they're

01:10:16.740 --> 01:10:46.700
some involvement there. They showed up. That's all that matters. Yeah. Are they going to come and pour the beer like Dave Mustaine is for us? Speaking of which, what do you guys drink? I'm speaking of Dave Mustaine. I'm drinking a Toot Le Moon. I am drinking Bravo Periel Brown Ale from Fire Snow Walker just came out 2017. George? I'm still drinking the Duchess. It's not all it is. George is still looking for a paper bag. Okay. I think John may be the only one here to get this.

01:10:46.760 --> 01:11:16.480
But as the Opeth fan, I'm drinking Air Apparent. There you go. Nice. There you go. Nice. By... Licking Hole Creek. God, you guys are amazing. Yeah. Yeah, it's their Mexican hot chocolate beer thing. You do it better than I can. That's it. Have you started... Have you ever... Have you tried the Opeth beer? Which one? The Stout. The 20-something anniversary. We have, and Will and I are going to drink it again soon.

01:11:17.580 --> 01:11:46.540
I hear that it's pretty heavy when you start it, but it gets really light by the time you finish the bottle. That's got a really weak finish. And it finishes with buke tears. AJ, we found that with the first one, but we let it age for a while to see what would happen. It's a little better. Okay, well, that's because we hope for the next time. It might be super fucking heavy now. I had the pleasure of meeting those dudes here in Long Beach before their show, and I took my bottle.

01:11:46.540 --> 01:12:16.460
I had one of the bottles of that stout. Michael? Michael? I don't know. Michael was like, how did you get this? Because I got one bottle of this and I drank it with my dad. I'm like, eh, you know, I know some people. That's funny because I got four of them. I'm like, I don't know. They sent me two bottles from the brewery, so thank you. They have another one out. They have the pale ale, the communion pale ale, which we are supposed to at some point get in the state.

01:12:16.540 --> 01:12:46.480
But it hasn't been announced yet. So I think the Behemoth beer, I think eventually they do want to export it to the United States. But I think right now it's just Europe. I hope so because I want to try it. I want to have one of the bottles and stuff. I really actually like that band quite a bit. I like to get the metal beers like you guys do. But I've never seen that anywhere. Yeah. And just to round this out, the next brew heads I am working on, I'm trying to do the Wake Up Dead stout, which we've all had multiple times on the podcast. Sorry, I've got to remove my TR. May I just say,

01:12:46.540 --> 01:13:16.520
If you are in the dark about what we're talking to and you just found our pod, Will here does an excellent column at WeAreMetalHeads.com called Brew Heads. He writes a nice editorial piece about a heavy metal-themed beer. And with his experience in the field, it's amazing stuff. And I believe the banner image on the page actually has Wake Up Dead in it. Yeah, I think it does, yeah. So yeah, so I got the Barrel Age version from 2012 for my buddy Lou, and I went over to Metal

01:13:16.560 --> 01:13:40.080
Chris's house during the Super Bowl and a whole bunch of Metalheads watched the Super Bowl and drank some Barrel Age Wake Up Dead. I have all their tasting notes. So this is kind of like a tasting note brew heads by committee. This one will be and I'm trying to reach out to Megadeth and reach out to Left Hand Brewing Company to kind of get some feedback for this for this one. So we'll see. Cool. Right on. Look forward to that. Yeah. All right. Let's get into our new releases.

01:13:46.560 --> 01:13:49.800
Spend your water money now!

01:14:16.540 --> 01:14:46.260
And it's listed as black metal, yet there is nary a harsh vocal on there. The singer reminds me of Dodd-Heimskard sometimes, you know, the way he's, at least on the last album, where he's got this kind of wild, hysterical sort of clean vocal. He does this for the whole album. So while I like what they're doing... That's a great way to describe it, George. It got a little old after a while. But kind of reminded me of Tim Curry. There you go. That too. Very theatrical.

01:14:46.560 --> 01:15:16.500
I was kind of like, what the hell is going on with this? But it's not bad. Yeah, it could get old for sure. Yeah. In small doses, it's pretty cool. Next up, we have the new Blackstar Riders album, Heavy Fire. I think this is their third album. I don't think I know this is their third album. And for those that aren't aware, this is sort of like Thinly Z without any of the members. Scott Gorham. No, the one guitarist is from Thinly Z. I know, I'm just, I'm generalizing. Scott Gorham and the bunch of Thinly Z. Come on, George is trying to be fun.

01:15:16.560 --> 01:15:46.460
And the Thin Lizzy replacement guys. So, but, and I'm not knocking them. It's Thin Lizzy without Phil Lyman is what it is. I mean, basically. Yeah, or Gary Moore. Well, yeah. Unless you get a Ouija board and amplifier, but I mean. But anyway. How far back are we going? But I'm actually not trying to knock them because I actually kind of like them. Although I like this album less than their last one. No, they're all right. They're not bad. Yeah, I circled it a little bit because, George, I know you like the last ones. And so I listened to it. You know,

01:15:46.560 --> 01:16:16.500
It just makes me wish there was a new Thin Lizzy record, but there won't be. Exactly. Yeah. But I like to hear Scott Gorham play guitar, so it's cool that he's doing something. Yep. It's good bar music. Yeah. When I need something that's not quite so heavy to, like, crank in the car and just be like, yeah! You know, I dig it. So basically what George says, when you're on your way to a Gaga show. Yeah. Yeah. You know. Something that's a little mellower, you know, that doesn't... When you're all excited and stuff when you get there. When you're drinking a Coors Light, you know, you want to kind of hang out. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.

01:16:16.540 --> 01:16:45.740
You watch your filthy mouth, John. It's only acceptable in Denver. No, no, no, no, no. Hey, Eddie, I will say this. I'm a Coors Light guy through and through. Okay? We don't talk about Coors Light here. As he laughs mockingly in Beak's face. Don't worry, so do we. I'll drink a Coors Light in Denver and that's it. If I'm in Denver, I'll do it. I won't even drink it in Denver. So this next one.

01:16:46.540 --> 01:17:16.520
This next one Jay brought to my attention. This is the new Dope Lord album called Children of the Haze. And I was not listening to them because I was confusing them with all the other dope named bands. And I think I thought they were Dope Throne. But no, they are Dope Lord. And they're actually really cool. I'm going to let Jay talk about it. That's a good record. I mean, it's sort of like a not quite as fuzzy Electric Wizard and catchier too. There's like good hooks to the vocals and things. It's a really good record. This is the first record I've heard this year that's going to definitely

01:17:16.560 --> 01:17:46.300
be on my year-end list. And there's just something kind of clever about them. They're Polish, by the way, which you would never know based on anything about it because their English is really good and the songs and that kind of thing. Yeah, I highly recommend it. I think it's a good kind of doomy. Electric Wizard is probably the closest relative, but they're more accessible than that somehow. And better. Fair enough. I mean, I'm an Electric Wizard fan, but again, I think the best thing I can say is this is definitely going to be on my list. I've listened to it quite a bit since it came out.

01:17:46.540 --> 01:18:16.400
There's actually, but to George said it best. Sorry to interrupt you, George. For all the dope bands or the stoner, the mono lords, the conans, the, you know what you're getting with this. Well, there's a ton of bands named dope something dope lord dope throne dope smoker dope priest dope whatever, you know, and so it's kind of hard to keep them straight. Big fat dope. Yeah. Dope. You spin me right round. They're like that cover song. Yeah. So, you know, if you're, if you're going to use something that's,

01:18:16.540 --> 01:18:18.920
used so much it's kind of hard to keep you all straight but

01:18:19.100 --> 01:18:23.320
absolutely not even know what made me i was just looking around band camp one day and ran into

01:18:23.340 --> 01:18:27.600
this and like this a few notes and i was like okay interesting and then it gets interesting the

01:18:27.620 --> 01:18:32.420
whole thing is it's a multi-faceted record it's not all just you know one particular type of thing

01:18:32.700 --> 01:18:37.360
anyway yeah i picked this up i really like it i'm glad to hear it because it's worth your time i picked it up too

01:18:37.560 --> 01:18:43.540
uh i really like the the vocals uh i just didn't i fucking hate the name more than anything in my life

01:18:43.760 --> 01:19:12.400
That is the worst name for a band. It is. It really is. I've ever heard about it. I will give you that. All these dope bands are like Cannabis Corpse. It's just like, guys, it's not. Just stop already. It's not even about the weed connotations to me. When I hear Dope Lord, I think of some douchebag in Miami like, it's dope. It's just kind of dumb. Or Poland.

01:19:17.100 --> 01:19:43.400
Jay mentioned that this was going to definitely be on his list. And I got to say, I think I've got like four albums that are going to be mentioned throughout the course of this podcast that are now on my list. There's a lot of good music right now. I have to say 2017 is starting strong. Yeah. And in fact, this next one is probably going to be on my list. It's called Ever Circling... Hold on. Wait, wait, wait, wait. Wait! It is February 19th. Let's not make bold statements like that, George.

01:19:43.560 --> 01:20:11.760
No, it'll probably be on my list mid-year anyway. Maybe not at the end. Okay. Anyway. That's pretty bold to say. I'm a bold sort of fellow. I'm kind of cheeky like that. So this is called Ever Circling Wolves, and the album is called Of Woe, or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Gloom. And this album really surprised me. Greg, our listener Greg, actually sent us this album. And I started playing the first song, and I was like, oh, okay, this is what it's about.

01:20:11.820 --> 01:20:41.560
And I was just kind of like, back in my mind, I was like, eh, it's all right. But I must have left it playing. And like a couple songs in, it really kind of changed. It got, they started using all these clean vocals. And there was just a lot of like long instrumental passages that were almost like proggy. And I was like, wow, this is not the record I thought it was. Post-metal-y, even I would say, George. It's sort of like a weird mix between like Ahab and Isis and a few other things. I mean, it's sludgy. I mean, it's, but it's more post-metal than metal. And I hate to use that term, but it's one of the cooler things.

01:20:41.660 --> 01:21:11.540
that's in the box right now. I'll say that. Yeah, I was like, whoa. And so I snapped that up right away. Well, I'm going to make a note now because my note was I was thrown off by the vocals. I heard like the first couple tracks and I was just kind of like, yeah, yeah, yeah. It's just, yeah, that's what I thought too. It's just like, ah, they're harsh vocals and they're just not all that interesting. But they really mix it up after the, like, I think, I can't think of the name of the song. Haunted, I think maybe? Like, start with Haunted and then go from there. Okay. Who can, if somebody, this is not that obscure, so somebody better get this, but who can,

01:21:11.960 --> 01:21:41.460
say what that is. The reference, the subtitles. It's the movie, How the High I Learned to Love the Bomb. Dr. Strangelove. I figured you'd all get it, but I just wanted to make sure that we're not all idiots. John hasn't spoken up a lot today, but when he does, it's right there with the nerd. I love it. Don't worry, Buick, I'm saving all my love for you later on. Speaking of nerds. It's going to be your number one, I know it is. Speaking of nerds,

01:21:41.640 --> 01:22:11.620
This is the self-titled debut album from Galactic Empire, which I believe we've mentioned on here before. They do heavy metal cover songs of theme music from the Star Wars movies. They get dressed up as Darth Vader and various stormtroopers and Imperial Guards and do funny antics while they're playing this killer music. You know, I have to say this. For disclosure, I am the

01:22:11.640 --> 01:22:41.560
I'm a biggest Star Wars fan. But this stuff to me. More so than an Opeth fan. Yeah, exactly. Hey, let's not make bold statements like that. Yeah, bold. This is awesome. But after a couple of times, you're like, yeah, I'm going to listen to that again. Well, it's a novelty. It is a novelty, yeah. It reminds me a lot of Trans-Siberian Orchestra. That's the kind of musical style it is. Yeah, it's pretty slick and produced. Yeah, but it's cool. One note my fiancé brought up. We were watching the video, their debut video or whatever.

01:22:41.660 --> 01:23:11.540
for the Imperial March. And she brought something up that, as a nerd, I never really thought about. It's like, we've never really seen the red Imperial Guards do anything cool. They always just stand around. Like, I want to see them fucking wreck somebody, you know what I mean? But they never do anything. It's because they're like, we guard the Emperor. He doesn't really need us. Yeah. Good point. He can kick all our asses, so we're just ornamental.

01:23:12.440 --> 01:23:41.580
We're holding your stick. Next to look badass to hold that stick. No, Eddie and John is actually a force pike. Get it right. Maybe you are a favorite fan than I am. They're my favorite characters in all of Star Wars. Really? Yeah, the Imperial Guard are. Why? Because they don't do anything. I'm right, they don't do anything. I will tell you why. My two favorite characters have done nothing in the whole movies. IG-88 was one of the droids sent to capture Han.

01:23:41.640 --> 01:24:11.600
And the Imperial Guard, because they just look so badass. You know who my favorite character is? That Stormtrooper that hits his head when they come through the door. Yeah. Aren't you a little short for a Stormtrooper? Well, you kind of got to be around here with the fucking doors that don't come down all the way. It just kills me that those are your favorites. That's just beautiful. Yeah. All right. Next up, a band called Glowson and their full-length debut, Got a Little Griming? I don't know how to say it. Griming? Yeah. They did a,

01:24:12.160 --> 01:24:39.500
I had an EP, I don't know if it was last year, year before, that was really cool. And so when I saw this was coming out, I snagged it right up. And it's kind of sludgy, doomy, heavy. I don't know. I thought I made some notes and they don't appear to be here. So maybe that wasn't a different version of the script. I really enjoyed the music. The music was really great. I don't like the vocals. Okay. Yeah, I think that's all I wrote. Like really great music. Didn't like the vocals. Fair enough. Yeah.

01:24:41.660 --> 01:25:11.620
to obscurity in their latest album king delusion i know will was liking this one yeah sorry i was on mute uh yeah i do i'm really digging this one like it's like death doom uh which we haven't heard that much of lately i don't know if death doom's going away but uh last year i didn't hear all that much so uh i'm glad don't worry november's november's doom's got a new album coming out so that hopefully will alleviate a little bit of that nice but uh yeah i like this one too all right next one is another one that's gotta be on my list this year the new and i i don't know if

01:25:11.660 --> 01:25:41.160
It's pronounced like this, but I'm going to go with it. Nadinger. It could be Nightinger. It could be Nadinger. I don't know. Can I say that I spoke to our friend Galen of Inferibrua and trapped them? He said, Bute Mark My Word, Album of the Year, I believe. Okay. And this is called The High Heat Licks Against Heaven, and it is brilliant. I've been playing the hell out of this one. So, yeah, definitely.

01:25:41.620 --> 01:26:11.200
Definitely list potential anyway. I don't want to be too bold. I listened to it. I just got to give it some more time. I only had it on for like 20 minutes. You got to do the headphone thing with it. You were telling me that. I played it on my computer after I had already decided I liked it. I was like, ew, wait, was I wrong about this? So then I started over, put the headphones on. It's just something about the production doesn't translate to computer speakers. It's so funny because that cover looks like a mix between the amorphous cover,

01:26:11.240 --> 01:26:14.760
the last record and um the psychroptic record yeah i could easily

01:26:15.000 --> 01:26:19.400
totally you know yeah i thought the same thing when i saw that cover and shamash yeah and

01:26:19.980 --> 01:26:25.240
they're doing that it's like a style yeah it's a style yeah next up we have ordos and house of the

01:26:25.350 --> 01:26:29.300
dead i definitely am missing some notes here because i i remember going like these guys are like

01:26:29.540 --> 01:26:33.460
swedish i think i remember writing that down somewhere and it's not on my list here i'm liking this

01:26:33.550 --> 01:26:39.500
album a lot yeah this is pretty cool more doom uh i don't know yeah i mean i i've heard them referred

01:26:39.500 --> 01:27:09.440
to as this year's monolord in terms of popularity, but whatever. I mean, it's got some cool doom moments. It's got some cool stoner metal moments. The singer's kind of got a little bit of an evil voice here when he goes to the harsh vocals. It's cool. Yeah, I dig it, man. I'm picking it up. It's super sick. I liked it a lot. Yeah, yeah. Give it a full spin because it just keeps growing on you as the album keeps going on, I think. And this is what again? Ordos? Yeah, or however you say.

01:27:09.520 --> 01:27:10.460
So many of these are.

01:27:11.060 --> 01:27:16.400
If you like Monolord, and I know you do, because you and I like them a lot, and I know Will likes them, you'll dig this.

01:27:16.740 --> 01:27:21.200
All right, and this next one's just sort of a token nod, Overkill release to the grinding wheel.

01:27:21.520 --> 01:27:24.160
You know, if you like Overkill, you're probably not going to go wrong with it.

01:27:24.240 --> 01:27:25.100
It's more of the same.

01:27:25.940 --> 01:27:26.380
It's not bad.

01:27:28.480 --> 01:27:32.680
Fucking ridiculous that these guys still have a fucking following in 2017.

01:27:33.240 --> 01:27:34.440
Hey, hey, watch your mouth.

01:27:35.320 --> 01:27:36.660
Shut your filthy little mouth.

01:27:37.500 --> 01:27:38.520
You want Overkill?

01:27:38.560 --> 01:28:07.880
You want Lady Gaga singing with Metallica? What do you want? You know what, though? Has the singer been hitting the fucking gym or what? I tell you what. No. George and I saw them live years ago. And he was wiry, tiny, look like strung out junkie. You see their new music video? He's getting defined. He's getting defined. He's big. He's been lifting with John Pergiucci.

01:28:08.540 --> 01:28:38.120
You're like, what the hell is going on here? You know, an earlier callback, you think, hmm, has he called Dave from, uh, uh, is he hanging out with George Lynch too? Yeah. All those guys have been lifting. Yeah. He's big now. So yeah, you know what you're getting with overkill. If you like the overkill thrash, I don't like him. I don't like his voice. Yeah. I tell you, I'm, I'm a mixed fan, but I agree with you. It's just his voice just never really stuck well with me. I love the early albums. Uh,

01:28:38.560 --> 01:29:08.360
Do you guys like Exodus? Yes. I don't like Steve Zetrow. There you go, Jay. That's why we have you on the pod. You say the hard-hitting shit. It's okay. While we're looking for a replacement for Jay. I think everybody's been replaced today. George, if you had to say, let's George, if you had to pick Overkill or Exodus, who are you going with? Which version of Exodus? It doesn't make a difference. That's not the question. Overkill or Exodus? Okay, well, what is the, what is the, no, what is the question?

01:29:08.560 --> 01:29:38.500
As in like, if I could only have one album from each band. If one band will never exist anymore. And the other band does. Yep, the other band does. I'd have to go Exodus. Wow. Wait, you prefer Exodus or Overkill or you want to get rid of Exodus? No, well. It prefers Exodus. It's so tough because honestly, they're kind of neck and neck with me. I mean, yeah. Because I thought you would have picked Overkill. Well, like, taking over and Years of Decay are fabulous. One of these bands never exists anymore. But man, Bonded by Blood is class.

01:29:38.560 --> 01:30:08.280
Classic. And Pleasures of the Flesh is pretty good. Fabulous Disaster is pretty cool. Shovelhead Kill Machine is awesome, dude. I like Rob Duke's stuff. Yeah, even the Rob Duke stuff is pretty cool. I actually prefer Exodus with Rob Duke. Me too. Believe it or not, I was apparently the other guy who was sorry he left. I just found out I'm not alone. That was a lot more time than I thought we were going to spend on Overkill. We weren't really talking about them.

01:30:08.300 --> 01:30:36.680
For the record, I love the album. It'll definitely make my list. I love Overkill. I've loved them from the first album. Excellent. We don't care what you say. Fuck you. Exactly. They will not make mine. There you go. It's okay. They're before your time. We understand. Yeah, because they're clearly not as good as Glory Hammer. Eddie, do you have any paramountable love at all in your heart? No. Nope.

01:30:38.320 --> 01:31:07.920
The answer I was hoping for, Eddie. He let go of the dirt wood and he sank down into the ocean with the Titanic. You know, some people consider Kill Switch to be kind of power metal-y. What? Yeah, I've gotten that from some people. So if Kill Switch is power metal-y, yeah, sure. But I'm not big into the... You can do that really well, Yana. Wow, but apparently you can. Wow. Maybe you should reconsider. Eddie with the rock scream.

01:31:08.100 --> 01:31:38.060
You ever thought about starting a power metal band, Eddie? Oh, no. Not at all. Okay, George, what's up next, brother? Well, this next one, I really hope you've listened to it, Butte, because I think you'd like it. It's the new Soin' album, Lycaea, which, as you probably should know, Butte, and if you don't, is the Martin Lopez band. Oh, yeah, brother. And I gotta say, you know, I'm digging this album a lot. Can I say something about Martin Lopez that Jay messaged me for? John, did you realize Martin Lopez

01:31:38.100 --> 01:32:08.060
was in Amon Amarth. Yeah, first album. Yeah, I never realized that. Yeah, it was a surprise. Yeah, Jay messaged me to that. And you ever get like a text message and like you turn your head at like a 45, like a dog hearing a high-pitched sound? You're like, hmm? He's an idiot. Yeah, I'm like, what? Yeah, it was a surprise. I saw it in that little interview with him in reference to this new record. And he was saying how those other bands, he said Opeth and

01:32:08.080 --> 01:32:38.000
I'm on a Marth, you know, we're really somebody else's bands. And I thought that what? Yeah. He basically wants to just run things on his own time on Lopez time. And yeah, I get it. You know, that's why I love him. He just like Cliff with Metallica change when Cliff left. I swear to you, I think Lopez was one of the was a turning point for Opet. He brought something special to that band. As somebody who's, you know, intimately met the band and hung out with them. How was his personality with the rest?

01:32:38.100 --> 01:33:07.760
the guys. He's fine. Yeah. I mean, I got, when I, when I met him a couple of times, he was fine. I just, I mean, I don't mean to talk. I mean, this was all in the press, so I don't, it's whatever, but didn't he have like a sort of anxiety disorder or something that kind of really caused some trouble and he had to drop out of a tour or something or what was the deal? I think he kind of said it with that interview, Jay, like you were saying about the new album, which is that he, he, he just wants to do things on his pace, his way. And he's, I remember he was coming when they did the, um, I want to say it was the porcupine tree tour. And, um,

01:33:08.080 --> 01:33:37.720
And he couldn't, they had to put off some of the early days or something? No, no, no. Because he couldn't come over? What was it? No, it was the Sounds of the Underground tour in 2005, I think it was. It's like a blood disorder. Gene Oglin actually had to replace him on some of the shows. That's right, that's right. And then they brought in Axe to replace Gene after that. But I felt like the implication was that he had an anxiety problem. Yeah, no, that's what I saw in the news too. There was like an anxiety thing. I have never ever once talked to him about it or anyone else in the band about it.

01:33:38.080 --> 01:34:07.220
He wants it to be on his terms, his band kind of thing. He's a great drummer. I think it goes without saying, if you like Martin Lopez, he made me a fan on his drumming on Blackwater Park, Deliverance. Yeah, especially Deliverance. He does some neat things on that record. His drumming on Deliverance alone made me a fan. The funny thing is, I think he's better on Still Life because he incorporates all the jazz intricacies in there. It's not just all blast beats and metal.

01:34:07.300 --> 01:34:36.520
And you can hear that he's Portuguese or Spanish or whatever it is. There's a little bit of influence there. He's from Sweden, but he's Uruguayan and he lived in Uruguay for a while. He's back and forth. He's all over. But it's got that little flavor to it. It's cool that we're talking about this guy for a minute, by the way. He's one of those guys that just... He looms large in the metal world to me. He's one of those guys that when he left the band, I was really disappointed that he left. Because he just took out as an exemplary addition to that band to me.

01:34:36.600 --> 01:34:39.380
And then apparently, so I'm on a Marth.

01:34:40.240 --> 01:34:40.780
So now I know.

01:34:41.100 --> 01:34:42.840
Yeah, which he was in before he joined up.

01:34:42.840 --> 01:34:44.480
I cannot believe.

01:34:44.800 --> 01:34:45.720
Once from Golden Hall.

01:34:45.940 --> 01:34:47.680
I never fucking knew that.

01:34:47.880 --> 01:34:48.700
Once from the Golden Hall?

01:34:48.800 --> 01:34:49.260
What was it called?

01:34:49.760 --> 01:34:50.400
The Amon of Marth album.

01:34:50.640 --> 01:34:51.760
Yeah, the Amon of Marth album.

01:34:51.920 --> 01:34:53.140
Once sent from Golden Hall.

01:34:53.220 --> 01:34:55.200
I was just waiting for you to use all the words.

01:34:55.400 --> 01:34:55.540
Yeah.

01:34:56.980 --> 01:34:57.380
Sorry.

01:34:58.100 --> 01:34:59.820
Sorry, I'm trying to shorten it here.

01:34:59.960 --> 01:35:01.280
Once the Hall.

01:35:01.900 --> 01:35:02.420
Brevity, please.

01:35:03.260 --> 01:35:05.700
Good for him, though, for three albums now.

01:35:05.780 --> 01:35:07.040
He's got his band going.

01:35:07.460 --> 01:35:07.740
It's awesome.

01:35:07.900 --> 01:35:09.800
I liked it a lot, the Sown album.

01:35:10.640 --> 01:35:11.300
I picked it up.

01:35:11.860 --> 01:35:12.260
Cool.

01:35:13.040 --> 01:35:15.740
Next up is a band called The Suicider.

01:35:16.320 --> 01:35:17.900
And their second album, I believe it is.

01:35:17.900 --> 01:35:19.640
You know what I think, George, when I hear that.

01:35:20.020 --> 01:35:20.900
Yes, I'm getting to that.

01:35:22.360 --> 01:35:23.920
Their album's called Never Alive.

01:35:24.260 --> 01:35:28.760
And their first album came out way back in 2010 called Death Surround.

01:35:28.840 --> 01:35:30.140
These guys are a Russian band.

01:35:30.480 --> 01:35:35.160
And if you didn't notice it from their name, The Suicider,

01:35:35.380 --> 01:36:04.260
They are hugely influenced by the band Sentenced. The Suicider being the name of a Sentenced song. And they sound a hell of a lot like Sentenced. Not quite as good as Sentenced, unfortunately. But still not bad, I mean, for that style of music. I gotta admit, I didn't really love this one, but I picked it up just because, you know, there's no Sentenced anymore. It's as close as I'm gonna get. I listened to this very briefly, and my notes are, Power Metal as sung by Dave Mustaine.

01:36:06.580 --> 01:36:34.320
That makes perfect sense why my notes are bad vocals. Not a fan. The vocals are very much sentence-esque, but not as good. So speaking of bands that sound like other bands, our last new release is a band called Yggdrasil and their album All Shall Burn. This is another one I got from Greg. And this is like Aman Amarth doing tech death. My notes are literally symphonic death metal like Aman Amarth. Yeah.

01:36:35.740 --> 01:36:36.620
So, uh,

01:36:37.460 --> 01:36:38.360
Buk, did you like this at all?

01:36:38.610 --> 01:36:40.500
Being a Monomarth fan and a TechDeath fan?

01:36:40.680 --> 01:36:42.300
George, you know my wheelhouse.

01:36:42.600 --> 01:36:43.660
This is right in it, buddy.

01:36:43.800 --> 01:36:44.460
Yeah, I thought you would.

01:36:44.490 --> 01:36:45.000
I like it too.

01:36:45.170 --> 01:36:47.080
I, you know, it's not as cool as a Monomarth,

01:36:47.200 --> 01:36:47.700
but it's not bad.

01:36:47.800 --> 01:36:48.000
It's cool.

01:36:48.110 --> 01:36:48.420
I dig it.

01:36:48.510 --> 01:36:48.880
I bought it.

01:36:49.020 --> 01:36:51.740
All right, let's move on to our list.

01:37:03.640 --> 01:37:20.820
We made a list. We made a list. We made a list. We made a list. We made a list. We made a list. And we're going to tell you all about it right now. Now, last time we shook things up a little bit, doing things differently, and

01:37:33.640 --> 01:38:03.220
for that year. So credit to John for this one. And so I took 1970 to 2012. Jesus Christ. I'm sorry, George. My God. I took 1970 to 2012, plugged them in, and we came out with 1988. Yeah. And by the way, John, kudos to you. This is a great idea. And damn, 1988, the first one? I mean, it's Jesus. I started looking at what came out in 1988, and it's like 100 awesome albums.

01:38:03.380 --> 01:38:32.920
It's sort of a transitional year though. At least for me it was. Because it was like extreme. Well, you know what? We'll talk to it when we get to our lists. Yeah. I actually was like, dude, I think we need to make this 10. Because I can't even do 10. Okay? I've got 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. I've got 6 honorable mentions. Plus about 8 or 9 more that if I can cram them in there, I'm going to mention them too. Unless somebody else already calls them out. So the way we do this, we start with our guest. He gives his number 5. We go from there to John.

01:38:33.020 --> 01:39:02.720
from there to Will, yeah. And then Jay, Duke, and then myself. And then we go back around to Eddie and do four and just work our way down. So, Eddie, number five. Well, I'm going to make this easy for you. Numbers one through five are injustice for all. Ah! Not even our problem. No, I'm kidding. I'm kidding. No, yeah. Number five, I put Slick Rick's The Great Adventures of Slick Rick. What? I grew up in Miami, man. I got it. It's Slick Rick. Hey, own it, man. Own it. Eddie,

01:39:03.020 --> 01:39:32.880
You are the brand new buke. I bow to you, sir. Oh, that was awesome. All right, John. All right, I'm going to preface mine by saying that all my honorable mentions are going to be mentioned by everybody else because I can guarantee you I might have one on my list that you guys have. So, and quite frankly, I don't know what yours is. I really don't give a flying fuck what anybody thinks, but nonetheless, I'm going to break Georgia's. Apparently you're the Zeddy. Yeah, and I, you're fucking number one.

01:39:33.000 --> 01:40:02.480
If it's Queensryke, I'm fucking disowning you from my friendship. It's a great album, dude. I saw that tour opening for Metallica on in Justice for... We'll help you take a hike, brother, because it's coming your way. I'm going to break George's heart with this album, because he'll know what I mean by this. My number five is Fate's Warning, No Exit. It's the album that killed George because John Arge wasn't there. I knew you were going to put that on there. What is the long track on this album? That is killer. What do you mean? The long track. I'm sorry.

01:40:03.000 --> 01:40:32.940
I'm just going to get to that buke. I am not a fan of the vocals on this album. I actually think it's his worst album for singing, but the long track, the Ivory Gates. Yes. I can't even think of the title now. I'm drinking beers. The long track on the album is the standout for it. So I'll get it to you here in a second, but nonetheless, go on, move on. I'm drinking. So. All right. Get this guy off the pod. No, you got to let me do my number one first to piss you off. All right. Well, the long track, which I heard. Yeah. The Ivory Gates, a drink.

01:40:33.020 --> 01:41:02.860
Amazing. Amazing. Yes. It's an actual epic for prog metal fans, that song. Question. Are we doing our honorable mentions now? At the end. What are we doing? At the end. Okay. Mine are kind of in a loose order, but my number five, just because I have it listed as number five, Testament, the new order. I figured you'd be on your list. You've mentioned it many times. Yeah, that's a great one. Yep. All right. Jay? Puke, I'm sorry. You just had to be there, dude. This was a big deal when it came out. Operation Mindcrime.

01:41:03.000 --> 01:41:03.140
Yes!

01:41:05.100 --> 01:41:07.680
I was a big fan of them from the first record

01:41:08.000 --> 01:41:10.080
and then Operation Mindcrime, that was the end of it for me

01:41:11.120 --> 01:41:13.720
It was pretty much started and ended with Mindcrime for me

01:41:13.860 --> 01:41:15.700
I liked the EP, I liked the Warning

01:41:16.000 --> 01:41:18.520
I thought Rage Forwarder was a really cool, weird move forward

01:41:18.720 --> 01:41:20.120
and when that came out, man, I remember

01:41:20.680 --> 01:41:22.120
Bruce Dickinson, because as

01:41:22.560 --> 01:41:24.280
another album on my list we'll talk about

01:41:24.900 --> 01:41:26.800
came out this year, and Bruce Dickinson

01:41:27.080 --> 01:41:28.440
said, when he heard it, he said

01:41:28.480 --> 01:41:30.620
well, there goes the neighborhood, because they had

01:41:30.690 --> 01:41:32.980
tried to do something a little bit, like a theme album

01:41:33.520 --> 01:42:02.900
It was just massive when it came out. It was huge. It was awesome. I remember just thinking this is like one of the best things I've heard in a while and I was really getting an extreme metal at the time so for me to come back to it was. So anyway. Jay, remember how we play Xbox and stuff together and remember in a couple weeks you're going to stay at my house? Yeah, you hit the fucking bricks. I was afraid of that. You know, it sounded like there's only one person with a problem here and everybody else is cool with it. By the way, that's like the worst threat ever. Jake's like, oh God.

01:42:03.000 --> 01:42:32.920
Thank God, I don't have to go over to his house. There's only three other houses you can stay out. Yeah, exactly. But anyway, I remember just being wowed by it. I was just like, wow, this is a neat record. My God, I can't wait to you guys. I would have loved to have seen you guys when you heard Pull Me Under for the first time. Get fucking over that song. There's more than one song from Dream Theater. Fuck. But that was the first song to hear when Dream Theater first came out. In 1992. Yeah, it was awesome.

01:42:33.000 --> 01:43:01.160
You guys dream tour Queensryke dream theater. Oh, God. Go back and listen. Are you going to the Lincoln Park tour? Queensryke opened up for Metallica on the Justice tour, and they took it hard from the fans, man. They were getting bombarded with stuff. What were you listening to in 1988, Buke? Probably. The wheels on the bus go round and round. It's funny. Now that you're 34, you're listening to it again.

01:43:03.000 --> 01:43:32.940
What's your number five, Duke? Boys, my number five is a band that I found actually after I met Will. And Will being the big thrash guy, Will had mentioned this early on. And I started getting into more early thrash from him. This is a band from the Bay Area called Violence. And their title Eternal Nightmare. This was, I think, 80s thrash, but kickoff.

01:43:33.000 --> 01:44:02.920
up a notch. Rob Flynn in his infancy. Yep. This was just fucking Rob-filled demo. I'm assuming you've heard Pressing the Masses, which is even better. Yeah, but I think this was an amazing, amazing debut from a band. When that came out, I didn't know what to think of that. I was like, what? It was so fast. Like I said, George, it takes that thrash at that time and goes up a notch. Awesome, awesome debut from a band. Hey, but you don't mind the vocals? Not one bit.

01:44:02.980 --> 01:44:32.920
Well, let me ask you, George, have these guys, have they tried to do this live recently or over the years? Not that I know of. I mean, Machine Head, hello. Some of the violence guys show up. Rob Flynn has a birthday party here every year. Like at your house? Not right here. He usually has it at the Metro House in Oakland. Some of the violence guys come to that. My number five, Suicidal Tendencies, How Will I Laugh Tomorrow? Good one. That's great. Honorable.

01:44:33.420 --> 01:45:02.800
I love that album when that came out. All right. Back to Eddie. That's extremely high on my honorable mention. I have Motorhead with No Sleep At All. That's good. It's right after Rock and Roll, I think. So it was like after the first two Wurzel albums and recorded somewhere in Eastern Europe or so, if I'm not mistaken. I have it. It's good. And it's got the best stuff off those two records on it. Traitor, especially. Oh, God, that's a good song. Yeah. Yeah. Mostly that song is what got me to like, yeah, I'm going to put it on there. Hell yeah. All right.

01:45:03.000 --> 01:45:31.900
John, what are you going to piss Buk off with now? Yeah, I'm sure. Nonetheless, we travel on. This is definitely the least metal album probably on anyone's list, but at the time when this album came out, they were fucking badass. And that's the album Vivid by Living Color. Oh, yeah. I love that album. It may have had pop moments, but the moments that were heavy were fucking heavy. I remember trying to learn the Cult of Personality riff, man. You know, I mean, middlemen, desperate people. And it was fucking badass.

01:45:32.160 --> 01:46:02.100
They got even heavier on their second record. There's a song on there called Stereotype that is like the greatest riff, if you know that song. Yeah, yeah. What was that guy's name? He plays guitar. Vernon Reed. That's right, yeah. Yeah, and Jay, as you probably remember, the wheels came off after the second album. Wheels came off big time. They're kind of back around a little bit now. They go round and round, those bus wheels. But at the time, there wasn't a band like them out that was getting MTV Airplay. I mean, they opened for the Stones for a whole U.S. tour. Well, I think Vernon Reed played on Mick Jagger's solo record or something, which is kind of high.

01:46:02.880 --> 01:46:31.640
All right, Will. My number four. And again, I'll stress these are not really in order, but Iron Maiden, Seven Son of a Seven Son. I love that album. And what's weird is I didn't understand or I didn't realize until probably a couple years ago that when this came out, it was pretty controversial. People hated it or thought it was like such a departure. I love this album. I absolutely love it. There's not a clunker on it. Every song is great. The evil that men do. Infinite Dreams. Infinite Dreams, definitely.

01:46:31.740 --> 01:47:01.680
All right. Jay? I'd be surprised if I'm the only one who says this, but I don't know. Maybe I will be. Danzig's first record came out in 88, and I spent a summer listening to that one, dude. Yep. That one really wanted to be on my list with fucking five. Come on. It's great, though. It really is a good record. I had it on cassette. Yep, me too. Yeah, I had it on cassette also. Yeah, I've got it on vinyl now. I probably began recently, but it's good. It's good from start to finish. It's a neat record. It's such a unique record. It is. It really is. And Mother really is a great song.

01:47:01.740 --> 01:47:31.720
and Am I Demon and Twist of Cain. I mean, it's just a pound, man. It's fucking great. Evil thing. Or no, End of Time is the one I really like. What's it called? At the end of time. Yeah, anyway. Insert time killing here is what you're doing? Please edit your singing out. Fuck you guys. Yeah, it is End of Time. All right. Spooks number four. Thrash was strong in 1988. Even though I was five, I have found

01:47:31.760 --> 01:48:01.720
I love 1988 and my older years. And there's a band called Testament in their album, The New Order. I'll nail you to that cross. Yeah, The New Order, Trial by Fire, Into the Pit, Disciples of the Watch. I mean, there is not a bad song. There's not even a mediocre one. Not even the Aerosmith cover? Which one's that? Nobody's fault. Yeah, it's still good. All right, well, maybe there's one mediocre one, but yeah. This album stands the test of

01:48:01.760 --> 01:48:31.720
of time. It's a new order. Yeah. My best friend, my brother in metal, George, you're number four. I'm sure we'll be hearing this one again, and so don't hate me for it only being number four, but death, leprosy. I can't agree with you on this one. There won't be a lot of comments on it because I think it's on a lot of lists. You can't agree with me because you don't think it belongs on a list? I don't think it should be on the top five. I think this may be death's weak point. I don't think they found their groove on this album yet. Is that your opinion as a five

01:48:31.740 --> 01:49:01.420
Five-year-old when it came out or your opinion now? All of Pete's opinions are as opinion as the five-year-old. You know what? What you just said makes me want to quit the pod and unfriend you and not call you and erase you from my phone. But you know what? If you talk to metal fans now, no one's saying leprosy is even in their top three. What? What are you talking like 12-year-olds? You know what? It's going to be on everybody else's list, so we'll defend it when we get to it. Okay. All right. Let's move on.

01:49:02.380 --> 01:49:31.720
All right, back to Eddie. Number three. Jane's Addiction, nothing shocking. That's some good stuff. Yeah, I grew up. When that was like a thing, it had boobs on the cover. I was like a kid. I was seven. I'm like, hell yeah, boobs. Boobs. Boobs. Yeah. Hey, guess what? We're older now, and we still say that. Yeah, man. No, I mean, I picked it up because of the boobs, and then I just rocked it for the rest of my life. Came for the boobs, stayed for the

01:49:31.840 --> 01:50:01.540
Music. Over the Mountain or something, right? The Mountain Song. Mountain Song, yeah. I had that one. I had that. Jane says it's on that one, isn't it? Yeah. For the second time, I think. All right, John. All right, continue with Bukh Hates John's list number three. George called this the other night. George, you know where I'm going with this. I've been reminiscing a lot. Too much beer. Don't remember. I'll be the only one who puts in.

01:50:01.760 --> 01:50:31.320
on their list. Oh, crimson glory transcend. Yes, that's right. Great album. It is. I really, in fact, just seeing that and talking to you about it made me want to. And if you don't know it, that's fine. But don't trash it. If you don't know it. This is what happens when you have a Sunday night podcast on a holiday weekend and people are drinking beers. Some of us have to work tomorrow. Not me. Not me. All right.

01:50:31.760 --> 01:51:01.720
My number three Slayer South of Heaven Will number three Dude my Oh remember this is this is not really one through five these are Just own it These are no no no no No I will say Number three Well when you hear my number one and two you either going to say oh yeah that makes sense or Number three My my list of honorable mentions is super long

01:51:01.760 --> 01:51:30.940
And any of these albums that I put in my top five list, it all could have been number one. So mine is not really in a strong list. It was hard to even narrow it down to five, let alone order them. But there's reasons why, if it isn't sort of an order, there's kind of a reason why it's kind of number three. And I'll talk about it when I get to my number one and two. All right. Jay. I'm surprised nobody said Cold Lake yet. I laughed when I saw that. I was like, I am so not putting that on my list.

01:51:32.620 --> 01:52:01.720
These are top five, not bottom five. We'll do that next time. Bottom five albums from 1988. Yeah, bottom fives, yeah. I am going to defend this record, and I think it's people like me and Will and George, and John for that matter. We came to death from Scream Bloody Gore, so we like those early death records. I think if you listen to Death Now, you're going to be a little bit like, I understand why you might think symbolic and all those things are the more important records or something, but that stated death leprosy is great. I loved it when it came out. I loved Scream Bloody

01:52:01.740 --> 01:52:30.240
When the new one came out, I couldn't wait to get it, and it did not let me down. What I like about Death Leprosy is it just had a little bit more of hooks in it, and the songs are a little bit more defined. It's very easy to... As soon as you hear an opening riff of a song on Death Leprosy, you know exactly what the song is, where Scream Bloody Gore, it's like this barrage of death metal where the songs aren't as clearly defined, and I think they really cleaned it up a bit on Leprosy.

01:52:30.860 --> 01:53:00.820
Which brings us to Buke. And we're at number what? Three. Three. Exactly. You know what I have to say to that? Grandma! What was it like? How about that? You guys like that little rock scream? Pretty good, man. I thought you were dying. What happened? We're going to repaint the front door soon. Jay and I, of course the people on the pod don't know, but Jay and I probably

01:53:00.840 --> 01:53:30.820
X-Box almost nightly with one another. And Jay and I have said many times, the line, we are going to repaint the frontier soon, the front door soon, it's just one of the greatest lines of metal. Most evil metal lyric ever, without question. I'm sorry, what's the band, what's the album? Pink Diamond is my number three. It's that whole thing, Grandma Welcome Home and everything, he's telling her about the house. Whenever I think about

01:53:30.860 --> 01:54:00.580
And to probably speak for George, which he's going to say, I got a big smile on my face as a Jay and Silent Bob fan. That was just what I was going to say. When they're in the drive-thru for the latest movie. Yeah, I was thinking about Clerks 2 when Jay's climbing in the drive-thru window singing that. That's awesome. Side note here, I just heard there's going to be another Jay and Silent Bob movie called Jay and Silent Bob Reboot. Can't wait. I thought it was Clerks 3. King Diamond Them. It's not my favorite King Diamond.

01:54:00.860 --> 01:54:30.580
But it has to be up here. And it's not on my list. That's because my number three. What's my number three, Will? What's your number three, Will? That's right. Slayer South of Heaven. So suck it, people. Number three. My God. You'll see. You'll see. All right. Back to Eddie. Well, I had King Diamond. So now I'm like looking. I don't want to. No, no, no. I mean, yeah, sure. Whatever. But I'm going to go soft. Pixies. Surfer Rosa.

01:54:30.840 --> 01:54:58.820
Nice. I like the Pixies. Good album. Yeah. John was just like, hmm. I'm liking the fact that you pulled that out. You know what I like, Eddie? You have the balls to come on another pod and just throw out the Pixies. I like that. I saw the Pixies open for you, too. He's been a little emboldened after all the Gaga and YouTube talk and Linkin Park discussions. He's like, man, this pod is freaking all over the place. I can say whatever I want. No, I think as soon as he hangs up, he's going to say, I told him I like the Pixies.

01:55:00.860 --> 01:55:30.780
And they fucking bought it. They bought it. Those guys bought it. You guys are idiots. Totally. I hope they're podcasting to the ground. They're all sitting around like, oh yeah, that's cool. Yeah, that's cool. I like them. I like it. I like that album. I mean, that song, Where's My Mind, is a classic. And, you know, movies have used it for years, like the Batman Forever and Fight Club and everything. So it's a classic. I can't deny it. All right. John, what's your number?

01:55:30.880 --> 01:56:00.820
Number two. All right. Going four for four on Bukes hatred list. He's not there. Just sneaking. That's too bad. That's too bad because he's missing out. Death. Leprosy. There is no bad death album. That's the trick question. That's like the who would win in a wrestling match. Lemmy, your God. Trick question. Lemmy is God. Will and I have had this conversation. It's just what you prefer from death. They're all good albums. Just what style you like the most from them. Agreed. Which I do. I honestly would take

01:56:00.860 --> 01:56:30.480
the first three over the others. I love them all. I'm just saying. If you told me I had to choose, it would be those first three. See, my favorite are human and individual thought patterns. Those are my two favorites. It's just what period you like the most. Yeah, more impressive. I've been listening to the sound of Perseverance a lot lately because I just got the vinyl one. It was fucking great, too. Number two. My number two. Rigor Mortis. Self-titled Rigor Mortis. This is one of those albums. I talked about it, I think, the last time when we were talking about.

01:56:30.480 --> 01:57:00.080
Actually, all three of my top three were on my last list about stuff that came out when you were a teenager and changed your life. That was one of my honorable mentions. Rigor Mortis, when that came out, it just changed everything. It was all the horror movie type lyrics, the lack of real riffs where the guy's just shredding on the guitar and Casey Orr on bass is trying to put in almost making riffs on a bass. It was phenomenal. I still spin that record all the time.

01:57:00.120 --> 01:57:30.080
I push play on iTunes all the time. All right, Jay. We moved from a small town in Missouri to Tucson, Arizona the summer before my senior year. And so I was a majorly pissed off and dejected teenager at that time. And one of the things that saved me that summer was finding King Diamond's Them in a stack of tapes at a record store. I was a huge, merciful faith fan, King Diamond fan. I don't even think I knew Them was coming out. But I took it home and I thought it was brilliant.

01:57:30.120 --> 01:58:00.100
I agree with Buke Abigail is a better record but I still spent a summer listening to them and I still think it's one of the best records that came out that year without question right listening to who them King Diamond them them yeah who's them them they who what is this Abbott and Costello well them is the band that now sounds like King Diamond yeah that's right yeah all right Buke number two you know you guys are all crazy who's had this lower on your list by one

01:58:00.140 --> 01:58:29.920
Slayer South of Heaven. So two is way better than three. Wait, you gave me that much crap and you only had that two? Hey, mandatory suicide alone. This whole album could be mandatory suicide over and over again. In this case, it's mandatory two-icide. It was the record after Rain and Blood. And I don't mean to be like that, but whatever. I mean, I liked it. It was the first year I saw the fight.

01:58:29.940 --> 01:58:57.520
Let's be honest. Could anything have really followed up Rain and Blood and carried that much? No. Could he carry King that much? I was a Slayer fanatic at the time, and I have to tell you, it's not on my list. I mean, I was a Slayer fanatic. Which, I gotta tell you guys, I wish you could know Jay on a personal level to hear his Slayer stories. They are fucking wonderful. Really, I have to talk with Jay sometime. Yeah, his Slayer stories are awesome. I have run into him a couple of times.

01:58:59.960 --> 01:59:29.760
I tell you what, it's South of Heaven Tour. It was the first time I saw him and I got a super stone in a graveyard. And then I went and hung out, waited for them. I got the pictures somewhere. Yeah, it's up on the site, in fact, I thought. No, not these ones. I got to find them, but it's me and all the guys from Slayer. Except for Jeff Handman, who sat in the bus drinking beer and wouldn't come out. And I was like this geeky little kid, like, fucking Tom, man! Is that your really high in a cemetery voice? Yeah, yeah. It was me and a guy named Lars. We're hanging out waiting for him.

01:59:29.780 --> 01:59:57.720
It was the guy who got high in the cemetery and was humping the tombstones. No, but Buke, so I know you were only five when it came out, but when South of Heaven came out and it was so much slower than Rain and Blood, people were upset at the time. It was, yeah. I could see that. I wasn't upset. It's weird. No, Jay, that's actually a great point you bring up, Will.

01:59:59.780 --> 02:00:01.820
be their debut album.

02:00:02.280 --> 02:00:03.180
Yeah, it's a different record.

02:00:03.680 --> 02:00:09.680
And I mean, I don't think I was upset by it, but it was also sort of like, I don't know, I think it was living through it.

02:00:09.760 --> 02:00:12.860
So like Slayer was this great, amazing band that all these things, the Rain of Blood came out.

02:00:12.980 --> 02:00:15.420
But then there were like other bands were coming along and stuff.

02:00:15.820 --> 02:00:21.200
And they had suddenly, I mean, South of Heaven is basically there somewhere in time.

02:00:21.400 --> 02:00:21.660
You know what I mean?

02:00:21.760 --> 02:00:22.880
It's like their fourth or fifth record.

02:00:23.220 --> 02:00:25.920
And so their influence over me was waning a little bit.

02:00:26.020 --> 02:00:28.320
And it doesn't mean it's not a great record because I loved it.

02:00:28.440 --> 02:00:28.940
But I don't know.

02:00:29.100 --> 02:00:58.840
I just didn't grab me like Rain and Blood did. Or Hell of Ways for that matter. Okay. All right. My number two that nobody will have. Bathory, Blood, Fire, Death. I thought about it. George, my only problem with this is the quality is very raw. It's super raw. Find me a well-produced Bathory album. I think Hammer Heart kicks it up a little bit. A little bit, yeah. It's still awesome. But this is their first album where they made a change to Viking Death Metal. It's a great album. It is. All right.

02:00:59.120 --> 02:01:28.960
Back to Eddie for number one. I want to call a prediction. I think. How can you predict Eddie's number one? I think four of us have the same number one. Hold on. Let me count them. One, two, three. No, I think it's only three. Everybody but me. I think four of us have. I know nobody has mine. Oh, well, actually, it might be four. Eddie, I bet it's Eddie's. I think the same four of us have it. Then it's four. Justice for all. Yeah, so there's four people, I think, too. Yeah, it's injustice for all, man. I mean, and I wasn't kidding earlier when you said top five. It's injustice for all.

02:01:29.100 --> 02:01:58.840
Five Times. It's the greatest metal album that I've ever heard in my life. You know, Eddie, you look at greatest metal albums ever. Injustice makes it. Every time. Every time. Every late. I see Jay silently disagreeing. Yeah. Well, I mean, it's my black album for them. It was the first record they made I was disappointed in. Oh! Yeah, I think it's produced terribly. I don't think the songs are that great. Eddie, don't hold back. Let it fly, man.

02:01:58.880 --> 02:02:28.540
It is produced terribly, I'll tell you that. There's no bass, whatever. However, some of the greatest metal songs ever are on that record. In 1988, nobody had bass. I'll tell you, also, that was another thing. We're living through it. It was this transitionary thing. This does not count for the quality of the record, but that was the record. They had always said, we're never going to make a video. We don't give a fick about anybody. It was the first record where they started making videos, and it was their first reach out in that direction. Now, that doesn't matter, but my point is,

02:02:28.880 --> 02:02:58.800
Puppets came out. It was brilliant. And then after that, the Garage Days were visited. And I was like, these guys can do no fucking wrong. And then, I don't know. It just let me down, man. It's okay. It's got some good songs on it, but I don't say it's a classic. Everybody else does. I'll tell you, man. No metal record could ever start better than with Blackened. Yeah, Blackened's and Battery. No, there it goes. John. No, I disagree. I'd go Blackened over Battery. Battery's great. Don't get me wrong. On this podcast,

02:02:58.880 --> 02:03:28.860
You are wrong. You are wrong. You call him out for it. That fucking... That last minute of that song where there's that weird time change where you can't figure out whether or not they did it on purpose or just Lars really sucks. But that... That's the fucking... There's one band, I'll bring that up later too with what I'm listening to, but Revocation did that recently in the song Communion. It was one of

02:03:28.900 --> 02:03:58.840
There are videos and you talking shit about rev revocation? No. I'm saying it had that cool time signature. I know I'm just messing with you. But I agree. Blacken is a great song. I do. It's just it's a classic dude. I feel like there's some dead space on that record. You're wrong. Gotta say it out loud. It's a field advice. I like that. I love how Eddie just takes it and gives it right back. Wrong. Like our president. Wrong. That's hashtag. I'm glad I dragged Jay into this.

02:04:00.000 --> 02:04:28.260
I enjoyed every minute of it. But yeah, that's my number one. And are we doing... We'll do honorables after. Okay, okay. We'll just all shout them out at the same time. Now, Buke, I have to ask you a question. Don't say it, but am I one of the people included in this number one? You're the only one included in this. Oh, yeah, you are. You just said there were four of us. You thought four of us would happen. I just wanted to know if I was one of four. No, one, two, three. I thought Eddie would have been part of it. Eddie already has one of them. I think we'll.

02:04:28.900 --> 02:04:57.260
I think Will, Jay, John. Not that we'll all have the same number one. Jay hates it. Not John. I think it'll be Will, Buk, Eddie. My number one was Jay, Eddie, Will, and John. Yeah, but Jay said it's the worst album he's ever heard, so. I know. So my list has already exploded. All right. All right, John. Let's go to John for Buk. You know what John's just going to be.

02:04:58.900 --> 02:05:27.980
You can leave for the night? Want to save us all the trouble and just take off now? Does this album hold up in 2017, John? It doesn't matter if it holds up. The question is, what were your favorite albums from 1988? That's the question. That's true. It doesn't hold up. Okay, now, all the Gloryhammer talk ends right now. It's over. And I'm going to say it because it was a badass album back then. Queensryche, Operation Mindcrime.

02:05:28.900 --> 02:05:58.860
I love how the most the quietest guy on the podcast is fucking stepping up and saying fuck off the only reason I'm quiet is going to cough and my fucking balls out tonight it's okay buddy Queensryche operation mind crime nice take that and stick that in your glory hammer one last one smoke that all right well number one uh Buke you're wrong death leprosy

02:06:00.060 --> 02:06:28.720
I should have known that would be one. I don't know why. Why did I think anything? The reason why, and again, say it yet again, these aren't in that much of an order, but I have to say if there was an of my top five, the one that influenced me the most, Death Leprosy, because that's where I, that was my gateway to death metal. I should have guessed. Of course that was your number one. Well, don't you guys think that that was probably the one that got the bigger press at the time too? Because really a lot of people know death.

02:06:29.900 --> 02:06:58.680
Like they did for Leprosy? I thought they got more press then. For Leprosy? Yeah. Yeah, well, they were definitely getting bigger, so yeah, I'm sure they did. Because let's be honest, the death scene in 1985-86 was kind of in two small pockets of the Bay Area in Florida, and that was it. Yeah, and I think I got Scream, Bloody Gore. I think it was one of those ones that I saw mentioned in Metal Forces magazine. I got the cassette. I was like, what is this? Yeah, and so that was when I went out looking for it. And let's be honest, at that time, that was the baddest fucking album cover ever.

02:06:58.880 --> 02:07:28.860
Yeah, so I saw that for the first time. I've told this story before is I never heard of death before. I saw the cassette in a record store. Yeah, I saw Leprosy. And I saw the album cover. I saw the logo. I saw the album name and started looking at the title, the tracks. I was like, I have to buy this. Never ever heard it. And when I heard those death metal vocals for the first time, really, I was blown away and I was hooked. So it had a bigger influence. I'm not saying it's the

02:07:33.740 --> 02:07:58.860
I think I went a little generic totally willing to admit it but it was a record that nah I'm not gonna set it up seventh son of the seventh son I was way into it right away and still got some some of the better Iron Maid well they've got great songs on a lot of the records but infinite dreams is on there as mentioned the clairvoyant is on there what's the name of the first track moon child

02:07:58.900 --> 02:08:28.860
I love that record man I love it too it's my turn right that is other bands play man of war fucking man of war kings of metal I'm gonna be a real dick that I was sitting here waiting to tell you you know kings of metal came out in 1988 right number one looks so much better now I swear I was ready for that you some people would say man of war was never the same

02:08:28.880 --> 02:08:30.540
after this album. Well, they weren't.

02:08:31.600 --> 02:08:32.520
Because Ross and Ross left.

02:08:33.180 --> 02:08:34.560
But let me just make your night.

02:08:34.620 --> 02:08:36.520
My number one is also Kings of Metal.

02:08:36.720 --> 02:08:37.140
Yes!

02:08:40.760 --> 02:08:41.560
It's Manowar.

02:08:41.660 --> 02:08:41.860
Yes!

02:08:42.520 --> 02:08:45.640
1988, I was all about Manowar.

02:08:45.760 --> 02:08:48.340
This is my greatest podcast moment ever.

02:08:49.500 --> 02:08:52.120
I can tell you four guys who weren't all about Manowar in 1988.

02:08:55.960 --> 02:08:58.080
I always say we started this list like, oh, yeah.

02:08:58.460 --> 02:09:28.300
Eddie's is probably the same as four other people. Nope. I'm the only one with Injustice for All? What the fuck? You're all wrong. Okay. So this is where the honorable mentions come in. For me, I was like, I really wanted Injustice for All on this. And I even kind of wanted it as number one. And if it couldn't be number one, it had to be an honorable mention because I'm just like, all right, obviously Injustice for All. Let's talk about some other stuff. Yeah, well, let's get some people's honorables.

02:09:31.100 --> 02:09:58.320
I have on their honorable mentions Metallica and Justice for All. I'm kidding. I mean, I put Soundgarden, Ultra Mega OK, I've got Death Leprosy, I've had Ministry of the Land of Rape and Honey, stuff like that. That's what I have for honorable mentions. All right, what do you have, John? All right, we mentioned a bunch of them already. Obviously, Metallica is on my list. Obviously, Slayer is on my list. How about Megan?

02:09:58.500 --> 02:10:27.740
So Far So Good So What? It's not their best album, but I thought it was cool. Yeah, it was cool. Candlemask, Ancient Dreams. I like that album a lot. And I'm really surprised no one mentioned these guys, including myself. No mention of Voivod. That's my very first honorable mention. To mention Hadris, come on. That's why I wanted 10. I was like, Voivod's got to be in there. I thought it was going to be a George's for sure. If you're a broad guy like me, that's kind of when they started to make the transition. It's still pretty thrashy. It's not like Nothing Face, which they kind of almost go full prog there, but God, that album's awesome. Yeah.

02:10:28.440 --> 02:10:58.060
And of course, I don't know if I mentioned Maiden, right? I mean, all those albums I love, I just, I didn't pick more than it's just five. It's impossible. So that's why I had all these as my honorable mentions. And plus I wanted to fuck with you tonight, so. I fucking love it, John. It's all for fun, man. I know, brother. It is. That's why I love doing this pod. All right, Will. Yeah, I got some honorable mentions. I think my honorable mentions is every metal album released in 1988. I have like a couple tiers of honorable mentions.

02:10:58.440 --> 02:11:28.420
I'm going to go through really quick but this is my top tier of animal mentions and no particular order sacred right surf Nicaragua I love that um overkill under the influence sorry Buke uh Malaya rage kill to survive I don't know if anyone's even heard of that oh yeah I'd love that sure yeah uh suicidal tendencies how I left tomorrow Metallica justice for all I was thinking about putting this on my top five but then I remembered that I was disappointed like Jay after after after after after after after after whoa no just wasn't the same uh atrophy socialized

02:11:28.460 --> 02:11:31.680
Hate, Everyone Knows My Love for Atrophy, Wasp, The Hedger's Children.

02:11:32.560 --> 02:11:34.560
I forgot about that one. That's a great record.

02:11:35.660 --> 02:11:36.880
That's by far

02:11:36.940 --> 02:11:38.180
my favorite Wasp album.

02:11:38.780 --> 02:11:39.860
Forbidden, Forbidden Evil.

02:11:40.300 --> 02:11:42.560
Yes, I was hoping somebody would mention it.

02:11:42.600 --> 02:11:44.400
Yeah, that almost

02:11:44.480 --> 02:11:46.240
made my top five just as far as

02:11:46.860 --> 02:11:48.380
influences in me, influencing

02:11:48.700 --> 02:11:49.840
me in 1988.

02:11:49.840 --> 02:11:50.740
That's an awesome album.

02:11:50.900 --> 02:11:53.480
I saw that on their second tour,

02:11:53.680 --> 02:11:55.560
Twisted Into Form, opening for Death Angel.

02:11:55.700 --> 02:11:56.240
They were amazing.

02:11:56.540 --> 02:12:25.800
Hey guys, I can ask you, did the singer from them ever do anything else? Because he is awesome. Yeah. Not that I know. Yeah, one of the reasons why it influenced me is because he had more of like a power metal voice to it. Yes, yes. Well, his voice is awesome. But second tier, Blow Through These, Megadeth, we mentioned Anthrax, State of Euphoria, Ozzy, No Rest for the Wicked, which is my favorite Ozzy album, DRI for of a Kind, Danzig we mentioned, Deuce Priest, Ram It Down, not that it was that great, but I love Deuce Priest. Blood Red Skies. Yes.

02:12:26.540 --> 02:12:56.460
Nuclear Assault Survive, Creator Out of the Dark and the Light, M.O.D. Surf and M.O.D., Violence Eternal Nightmare, and Guar Hello Debut Album. Yes, we're the debut. All right, Jay, you got any? I'll go through mine pretty quick. Yeah, I'll have a few. The Bathory, almost, these are all the ones I really seriously considered putting on. The Bathory I almost put on. Death Angel Frolic Through the Park came out that year. That was a good record, and I listened to a lot that summer. Yep. Let me see here. I'm just going through my list.

02:12:56.520 --> 02:13:26.460
to stuff that maybe hasn't been named yet. I agree, by the way, The Jane's Addiction. I like that record. That's a really good record. I like the one that came out after that, too. There was a record by Manila Road out that year called Olive of the Abyss. I'm a Manila Road fan. I'm one of the few out there, but I do like them. Manila Vanili? What? Manila Vanili Road. I did think No Sleep At All was a cool live record. I had that record, too. Let's see. What else am I missing here? Oh, Saxon had a kind of a cool, or as George would say, Saxon, comeback record that year called Destiny that I really liked.

02:13:26.540 --> 02:13:56.500
a lot. Let's see if I'm missing anything else. The Suicidal Tendencies most definitely needs to be on my list and was on my list. Yeah, that about covers it for me. Everything else and a bunch of stuff named by other people. All I have to say is welcome to the third floor. Death Angel, Frolic Through the Park. Oh yeah, it's great. The first time I saw them with George, George was like, I don't think you understand what you're about to see now. And these guys for a band that was such an influential part of the 80 Thrags

02:13:56.540 --> 02:14:26.500
scene to come back alive and a band that hasn't stopped since they came back so when we saw them that time uh just for clarification they they hadn't even put out a new album yet they were touring uh i think they were opening for entombed or something no they're opening for um river runs red life of agony yes remember at jack's i don't recall seeing life of agony at jack's yeah you and i did i'm old

02:14:26.520 --> 02:14:56.380
All right. But anyway, yeah. So this wasn't even like before they put out it. This was like they'd been gone for like 13 years, I think. And, you know, there was a bus accident. They kind of just they broke up. They disappeared. Nobody really knew because there wasn't internet yet. And then they they played Jax and we saw them. And I actually got to ask Mark. I was like, where the hell you been? Yeah. But since nine, this is crazy. Since 1990, they have released Art of Dying Killing Season Relentless.

02:14:57.240 --> 02:15:24.980
The Dream Cause for Blood and the Evil Divide, all of which are great albums. So, Death Angel, I think maybe now, coming back, they may be better than when they first started. All right, I've got a bunch of... Do we need to take a break, George, and just let you talk for a while? Yeah, here we go. Eddie, if you need to go bake a cake, roast a turkey... Wait until I do my next list. Eddie, if you want to go to that show now, you can go to that show if you want to.

02:15:26.560 --> 02:15:56.480
My balls are bruised from how much they mishandled them. All right. Voivod Dimension Hathros. Of course. Another one that didn't get mentioned. I've got a few that didn't get mentioned. This one, Bolt Thrower and Battle There Is No Law, the first Bolt Thrower album. Of course, the self-titled Danzig. One that I'm always going to champion and nobody but me likes. The self-titled album by Stone. Part of the 80s Finnish thrash scene. Wait, remember, I have it on vinyl. So do I. But I bought it.

02:15:56.520 --> 02:16:24.740
on cassette in 1988. As well as Violence, Eternal Nightmare. Another one I can't believe nobody, especially Buke, didn't mention Sanctuary, Refuge Denied, Anthrax, Studio Euphoria, Metallica and Justice for All. I think, George, that was the biggest miss from your list. Which? Anthrax. I wanted it on there, but what are you going to do? Running Wild, Port Royal? My God. They had two records that year, George. Did they? Oh, yeah, Ready for Boarding, but that's a live album.

02:16:26.580 --> 02:16:34.019
Readance, Rigor Mortis, Testament New Order, Seventh Son, Seventh Son, Frolic Through the Park, Forbidden, Forbidden Evil, and Nuclear Assault Survive.

02:16:34.619 --> 02:16:38.179
I meant to say that to you. I spent a lot of time listening to that record, Nuclear Assault.

02:16:38.440 --> 02:16:45.900
All right. Somebody said something. Oh, you were busting my balls. All right. Moving on to What Are We Listening To?

02:17:10.340 --> 02:17:15.500
Want to go, Eddie? Sure. I'm still kind of lingering on last year's releases.

02:17:15.980 --> 02:17:45.820
I've been listening to a lot of sorcerers from Opath, a lot of the disassociation from Dillinger Escape Plan, Low Teens from Every Time I Die, Rhea from Oathbreaker, Great is Our Sin from Revocation is like almost an everyday thing now. Yes! And then the one thing I've been doing lately which I surprised myself is I've been digging into my vinyl collection and playing just old, like obscure,

02:17:46.000 --> 02:18:15.719
Sid Barrett and Pink Floyd stuff. I'll just let it ride into background while I write for the podcast or write for any of the other things that I'm doing. So yeah, I've been listening to Pink Floyd, even though I've heard it all before. I've been away from it for a few years, so now going back to it, I'm like, oh, shit. That's some of the greatest music ever made. Cool. Dogs of War is probably one of the best songs I've ever heard in my life. Did you get all the reissues that just came out?

02:18:15.820 --> 02:18:45.780
a little while back. And one of them is the Dark Side of the Moon one has a live version of Dark Side of the Moon on it that is just every bit as good and better than Dark Side of the Moon. They just do the whole record in order. It's amazing. No, I've never picked up any of the reissues. I've had all the original presses. I inherited them from my father. But yeah, definitely check it out. Hey, Jay, didn't they release that whole concert but over the course of three albums or something? Because I think the Wish You Were Here had the other tracks that were live from that.

02:18:45.820 --> 02:19:15.400
that same concert as Dark Side of the Moon. Well, here's the thing. The only deluxe package I bought was the Dark Side of the Moon one, so I didn't know what was the extras on the other ones. I think they released it on the other one, so it had all the pre-animal stuff on there, along with the Wish You Were Here stuff. It's unbelievable how good those shows are. Yeah, and you can't go wrong with those, man. I'm so grateful. I got to see Pink Floyd in 1992 do Pulse, and I was like a child. But yeah, it was incredible.

02:19:15.840 --> 02:19:17.400
that's burned in my memory.

02:19:18.019 --> 02:19:22.340
I was listening to the radio the other day, and Roger Waters is doing a tour right now, and they're giving away tickets.

02:19:23.179 --> 02:19:24.840
And the guy said, I bet they'll play this song.

02:19:24.880 --> 02:19:28.380
And then they played On the Turning Away, and I wanted to call him and say, I bet he won't.

02:19:29.719 --> 02:19:30.040
Exactly.

02:19:30.540 --> 02:19:31.420
He's not on that.

02:19:31.540 --> 02:19:32.280
I mean, come on, dude.

02:19:32.519 --> 02:19:32.580
Yeah.

02:19:32.920 --> 02:19:38.639
I saw him on the Division Bell tour, and I also saw the Roger Waters doing The Wall, which is one of the greatest things I've ever seen.

02:19:38.840 --> 02:19:39.019
Yeah.

02:19:39.200 --> 02:19:39.760
Yeah, I saw that.

02:19:40.019 --> 02:19:41.860
And I saw they did also Dark Side.

02:19:42.260 --> 02:19:42.920
They did the tour.

02:19:43.360 --> 02:19:44.780
Roger does Dark Side of the Moon.

02:19:45.120 --> 02:20:14.660
I don't know what he's doing on this new one, but the new one I think is focused on Floyd stuff. So, but yeah, I mean, like I said, Opeth, Dillinger, Every Time I Die, Oathbreaker, Revocation, Pink Floyd. Those are my current listens. John, what are you listening to? All right. Since we did that Facebook thing, you know, what we're listening to when we're kids, I've been overdosing on a lot of stuff from the 80s and early 90s, but I'm not going to mention those, but that's been part of my listening. The stuff I've been listening to that's been new, a couple of things we just got in the box.

02:20:14.760 --> 02:20:44.700
It's Fen Winter, which I'm really liking a lot. Persephone, Athma, which is not bad. It's pretty good. Ordos, House of the Dead. I'm digging that big time. Instrumental band from New Zealand called Into Orbit, Unearthing. Found it on Bandcamp. I checked that out because it was on your list. It was kind of cool. Yeah, it's a little different. It's not what you'd expect, but it's cool. And then it seems like the last three years I have a fusion prog kind of metal-ish instrumental band that I'm championing. And this year it's another new one.

02:20:44.760 --> 02:21:14.260
I've listened to for years, but they have a new album out. It's a band called Cosmo Squad, and it's Morbid Tango is the name of the album. And if you don't know anything about them, two of the guys are from earlier metal bands, but nonetheless. And then the one I wanted to mention again that I have been listening to nonstop since you guys told me about it when it was in the box is that Black Anvil, As Was. I absolutely love that album. So that's it for me. Cool. Well, I've kind of,

02:21:14.760 --> 02:21:44.720
Sometimes I skip the what are we listening to lately. I just say my vinyl purchases. So what I'm doing is I get so much crap for that is I just take some of the stuff that are my new recent purchases and I put them in my what am I listening to lately. So the first one is Beheaded Beast Incarnate and never heard of these guys before. But man, this is sticking with me. This will be on my high on my mid and end year list. It's a behemoth like death metal. These guys are from Malta. Who knew there was any metal coming from the little island of Malta?

02:21:44.780 --> 02:22:14.660
in the Mediterranean Sea. But really digging the new Overkill Grinding Wheel. Listening to the new Iron Regan Crossover Ministry album. Shout out to those guys. Yeah. Listening to a lot of Behemoth. Since I was coming up with the Brewhead segment on the Behemoth beers. I love Behemoth. God, they're such a great band. And then as always, I always listen to a lot of Black Sabbath because that's what my kids listen to after I give them a bath. Right on. Doing it right. He likes to get them clean, then get them dirty.

02:22:18.060 --> 02:22:44.700
My list is pretty short. I have been listening to that Dope Lord record as mentioned. I also I think just because that's kind of got me in a doom mood. I like that on Earthly Trance record that I think I got out of the box. And then because I'm in a doom mood ever since John sold it to us just about an hour or two ago in the background I've had the Ordos. I'm like on my second listen to that in the background here. That's great.

02:22:44.780 --> 02:23:14.580
That's obviously going to be spinning with me for a while. And then I mostly just the vinyl stuff I bought. So I couldn't mention that. But for about six months now, death has been like my go to band when I'm not listening to anything else. So and since I just got sounds of perfect perseverance vinyl, I've been listening to that a lot. Oh, by the way, real quick, I'm sure we've all checked it out. The new gruesome song. Oh, gruesome. No, I didn't listen to it yet. It's supposed to be symbolic error or something. It's actually human. Human error. Excuse me. Yes. It's just one new song and then some demos.

02:23:14.760 --> 02:23:44.300
and then a remake of a song from, I think, Leprosy. I'm not mistaken. I could be wrong. I assume it's cool. Yeah, it sounds great. Yeah. Dude, they nail. It's amazing how much, not only do they sound like death, but they nail the different eras of death. This song could be a leftover from human. It sounds exactly like it's from them. Yeah, it's amazing. Cool. Puke. I have been listening to The Drip, The Haunting Fear of Inevitability. Good stuff. Yeah, pretty heavy. Super fucking heavy.

02:23:44.760 --> 02:24:14.100
A couple different genres of times. It's a lot of grind. A lot of death metal. Sounds a lot like our friends from Trap Them at different times. Yeah, how about that? I love that band, Trap Them, by the way. Great, that last record. And also the Iron Reagan crossover ministry. Cool. All right. You know, back in the day, I used to get a lot of crap for having really long lists here.

02:24:14.780 --> 02:24:44.580
So for the last half of last year, I tempered my list, kept it around five. Not today. So get ready for it. There's so much good stuff on here. It's ridiculous. All right. Arstadir Leifsson's Icelandic German band released a two song EP that clocks in at 43 minutes. It's like Hellyarkvida is the name of the EP. What'd you call me? It's 43 minutes long. So it's like way longer than,

02:24:45.380 --> 02:25:14.720
So I don't know why it's an EP, but it is. Next up is a really cool band, and I think Buke needs to check these guys out. They're called Dark Phantom, and they're an Iraqi death thrash band, and their album Nation of Dogs, and it is a really cool album. Next up, we've got a Swedish doom sludge band called, I want to call them Doomcraft, but it's probably Domcraft, and their album The End of Electricity. That one's pretty cool. This next one's interesting. I'm going to guess they're called Dool. That's D-O-O.

02:25:15.420 --> 02:25:44.600
It's got the horse on the cover. Yep. They're from the Netherlands and the album's called Here Now, There Then. And it's... I was trying to sell John on them, which I didn't do very well, apparently. But... Just haven't had a chance to listen to it yet. Come on. Fair enough. But I think Buke might like this. I tried selling them by comparing them to Royal Thunder. It's a little heavy, slightly heavier, I think, than Royal Thunder. Royal Thunder is more of a hard rock. I think this slides in right in the, like,

02:25:44.760 --> 02:26:14.520
Slightly Doomish, kind of hard rock metal. It's really, really surprised me and is possibly list worthy. So make sure to check that one out. Dope Lord, Children of the Haze. Thank you, Jay. And then I picked up a couple, the first and third albums from Go's Cube. Another Day Has Passed and Shadowlands, sorry, Shadows Swallowed the Flood. Technically, I also picked up their second album, but I haven't listened to it yet because it's on CD and I haven't repped it. Another one that is blowing,

02:26:14.780 --> 02:26:43.140
Me Away is a band called Mord A Stigmata and their album Hope. They're a Polish post-black avant-garde metal. I don't really get much avant-garde out of it. It's really just fucking heavy. And this is another one that's possibly list worthy. George, is this album that came out last year Anissia? No, this is, it's called Hope. It's brand new. Okay, okay. And this next one is a Swedish, Swedish? Swedish, black, Swedish.

02:26:47.199 --> 02:27:14.740
Swedish Black Ambient Band. I don't know how to pronounce it. It's N-O-E with a carrot on top, T-A. And I picked up their EP called Psyche and their album called Beyond Life and Death. It's basically like ambient music. It doesn't really do much there. It's just ambient with a chick singing, kind of clean and pretty, but not too pretty, kind of dark and evil. So it's pretty cool. Another one I just picked up yesterday, Italian Heavy

02:27:14.760 --> 02:27:44.740
metal band called the ossuary ossuary or ossuary depends on how you pronounce it on their album postmortem blues just kind of a metal album you know um the italians do this style really well by the way next up is a band called pine p-i-j-n and uh floodlit their uh uk post metal band probably one of the least favorite ones on this list but it was it was kind of interesting next up is one that dan from chemists uh mentioned to us there's a band called sanhedrin and their self-titled ep they're a

02:27:44.780 --> 02:28:13.880
A Brooklyn Band featuring one of the dudes, the guitar player I think, from Black Anvil. Not at all like Black Anvil, but it's kind of cool. Next up, we're almost there. Santo Rostro, The Healer. Spanish Doom Band, it's their third album. I've bought every one of their albums. They're pretty cool. Check it out. Second to Last, a band called Vanha, or Vana? It's V-A-N-H-A. And Within the Mist of Sorrow, it's an atmospheric death doom band from Sweden.

02:28:14.780 --> 02:28:44.740
and I was like me and then I listened to it with headphones on and I was like whoa I really like this it kind of starts off as a pretty traditional death doom you know it's slow there's growls uh and then there's some clean vocals come in that remind me of like uh Tiamat right after Wild Honey that sort of Swedish clean speaky sing uh and then then I started listening to it some more and I was like you know the heavy parts kind of remind me of like early 90s Tiamat as well so then it really started to grow on me very cool

02:28:44.760 --> 02:29:14.240
Last thing I picked up, I haven't really listened to much of it yet, but it's Native American themed, and I'm all about that sort of stuff. So the band is called Wind in His Hair. Yes, that's from Dances with Wolves. And the album's called Earth Wrecker. And it's a German band doing songs about Native Americans. It's sort of a crust meets black metal kind of thing. Germans love the West. Yeah. They do. It's true. They love old cowboy stories and shit, so that's not a real surprise, that one. Yep. All right.

02:29:14.760 --> 02:29:44.640
Let's move on to our personal recommendation album. You should listen to this. You should listen to this. You should listen to this. You should listen to this. You should listen to this album. Personal recommendation. We're going to go back to Eddie. Well, I highly recommend A Question of Separation from the band DeSever. I think I heard of them.

02:29:46.899 --> 02:30:14.520
No, honestly, look, yeah, shameless plug, but I'm really proud of that record. I feel that that was some of our best work, and not a lot of people have heard of us outside of Florida, so, you know, check it out. You might like it. You'd be surprised. But if I do recommend an album outside of my own shit, it would be Revocation, Great Is Our Sin. Just everything that I grew up on metal-wise, plus everything that's been evolving, all blended into one.

02:30:15.460 --> 02:30:44.540
And it sounds cheesy as shit. They're all really good friends. Brett and Dave and just Ash. All those dudes are amazing people and they're making some of the best metal I've heard coming out these days. So highly recommend it. Thank you, sir. John. Nothing. You're muted, dude. Nothing. I said, fuck you guys. Now this band is not the same band it was 20 years ago, but when this came out, it was

02:30:44.580 --> 02:31:14.540
It's a doom album. It's a band Anathema, the Silent Enigma. This is right when they kind of were at their peak for their heaviest period in their career, which they are nothing like that now. But if you don't know much about that kind of English death, doom scene with Paradise Lost, My Dying Bride, and Anathema, this is a good one to listen to. The Peace Middle 3. Yes, pretty much, yeah. I just learned that term the other day. I didn't know that was a thing. Yeah. All right, Will. My personal recommendation, Inhumation, Verdant Decay. And they also have an EP, Inhumation EP. I give a big shout out to

02:31:14.560 --> 02:31:44.100
He's the one who told me about these guys. And they're local. They're in Frederick, Maryland. It's just straight up brutal death metal done right. And he's a local brewer. Yeah. So I love the connection. So I guess the guy does the vocals and either basic guitar. I forget. Jake is a brewer at Flying Dog. Obviously a local brewery here in Frederick, Maryland. And this came up because I'm looking for bands to play during. So at Atlas Brew Works, we're going to have True Brewing Company.

02:31:44.540 --> 02:32:14.220
Zach from Chemist and True Brewing. He's going to come out to the Craft Brewers Conference in April and bring some of his beers. We're going to put them on tap at My Brewery Atlas and we're going to have a heavy metal show play. And I was asking Buke for recommendations and he said, check out Inhumation. Never even heard of him before and I don't know how because I'm very big on local music and blown away by these guys. I absolutely love it. Do you have a date yet for that? April 13th. It's Thursday. That sounds awesome, dude. I wish I could make it to something like that. Maybe.

02:32:14.560 --> 02:32:44.220
You're fucking right, you can, Eddie. You buy a fucking plane ticket. You say, screw you to my family. Screw you to your job. You get on a plane and you come. I want to go. I really do. I'm in that scenario now where I'm unemployed, so I'm trying to get the day job thing down. Then I can start making trips. If you make the trip, you will get no money. You will make a couple friends and you'll laugh a lot, but that's it. Unquestionable friends.

02:32:45.520 --> 02:32:46.740
You'll definitely get drunk

02:32:47.240 --> 02:32:47.600
Awesome

02:32:48.300 --> 02:32:49.120
Well I'll let you guys know

02:32:49.280 --> 02:32:50.740
If I can make that work out

02:32:51.799 --> 02:32:53.100
The Decibel hit me up

02:32:53.140 --> 02:32:54.720
Decibel Magazine wanted me to do

02:32:55.000 --> 02:32:56.860
A live rock and roll beer guy

02:32:57.120 --> 02:32:58.820
At their beer and metal festival in Pennsylvania

02:32:59.320 --> 02:33:00.760
What the hell are they not talking to us

02:33:00.820 --> 02:33:01.380
We're closer

02:33:02.020 --> 02:33:02.260
I know

02:33:02.630 --> 02:33:03.740
I'll talk to them

02:33:03.780 --> 02:33:04.160
I can't

02:33:04.180 --> 02:33:05.120
I don't even know if I can make it

02:33:05.220 --> 02:33:06.360
But you guys should

02:33:06.600 --> 02:33:07.300
Yeah recommend us

02:33:07.390 --> 02:33:08.080
Because we're going to be there

02:33:09.020 --> 02:33:09.180
Yeah

02:33:09.500 --> 02:33:10.200
Yeah so Eddie

02:33:10.400 --> 02:33:10.520
Eddie

02:33:10.750 --> 02:33:12.200
My brewery atlas

02:33:12.500 --> 02:33:13.280
Is one of the beer

02:33:13.280 --> 02:33:42.880
One of the breweries pouring a beer for it. Oh, fuck. Well, then you should have context. Well, I don't think Albert, the managing editor, I don't think he knows about the podcast. He may, but. I can't imagine he does. I'd probably mention it to him, but. I'm trying to find the, I'll send you the email. I have an email and yeah, I'll tell him, hey, since I can't make it, you should definitely. Yeah, because we're all going to be there anyway. I mean, I'm for it. And we're making it, we're making a, it's cool because we're making a beer called Hail Satan Worship Doom for the festival.

02:33:42.940 --> 02:34:12.620
And then Champion Brewery down in Charlottesville, we're going to make an official beer for the festival. It's a collaboration beer between any of the breweries that are going to be there. Plus, I think guys from Municipal Waste and Pig Destroyer are going to come down and brew the beer with us. Nice. Hell yeah, I'm sure Dave Whitty is going to go brew some beer with you. Yeah, yeah. So when I say Municipal Waste, I mean Dave. Yeah, Dave is one of the coolest dudes alive. I'm sorry. He's been so great.

02:34:12.940 --> 02:34:35.720
ever since I met him. And yeah, shout out to Dave. Yeah, he, he, when I did the, uh, brew heads, calm about permanent funeral, he chimed in a little bit because he's the one who introduced the guys from pig destroyer to three Floyds. Nice. Nice. Anyway, another plug, uh, you can hear Dave witty and Chris of three Floyds on episode two of the rock and roll.

02:34:42.960 --> 02:35:12.760
I'll tell you what, the Rock and Roll Beer Guy name is such a cheesy douchebag name that I think that's why it works. I think that's why it works. I've never expected. Yeah, well, you know, that's the thing. Things that are simple and easy like that are, you know, that's what works. If you've got some frickin' long-ass, like, Welsh, New Zealander frickin' name that's, you know, a million characters long, nobody's gonna remember that. We are the Metal Heads Podcast. Very original name.

02:35:12.940 --> 02:35:41.960
But you know what it's about. Yeah, it's straight to the point, right? That's what matters. Yep. All right, Jay. The only people that put them on the year-end list was John and I. But Hammers of a Misfortune has a record that came out some few years back that I would highly recommend. And this was when Mike Scalzi from Slough Fag was still in the band. It's called The Bastard. It's a concept album about this bastard son of a king who lives out in the woods and everything. And it's just a great record.

02:35:42.960 --> 02:36:12.900
It covers just about every genre of metal in it. And it's definitely held in high esteem here in the San Francisco metal crowd. Could be about Game of Thrones, too. It's so good. It's so good. And there's some great songs in there. If you need to be convinced, listen to a song called The Bastard Sapling, and you'll probably be like, holy shit, I'm buying this. That's funny. I think there's a band called Bastard Sapling. There is. And I've always wondered if it was related somehow. It's a good album. Yeah, it's great. All right. Buke. Okay. When it comes to personal recognition,

02:36:12.960 --> 02:36:42.920
Recommendations. Guys, it doesn't get a lot better than this album. In Flames, Clayman. Bullet Ride Pinball Map Only for the Week. I was trying to remember that. I was thinking, Pinball Wizard? What? No, that's not right. That's all I gotta say. Melodic Death Metal probably at its peak. Definitely. Yeah, a lot of people would agree with that exact statement. Alright, so I kind of fucked up on mine. This was one of my honorable mentions. I meant to take it off my honorable mention list because I was going to pull it in here as my personal

02:36:44.819 --> 02:37:00.740
So it's a repeat here. This is Running Wild's Port Royal. I'm a huge Running Wild fan and Port Royal is a very cool album. It's a little dated by the sound, but I still dig it. Let's see. What is that? Okay, Vinyl Purchases.

02:37:14.520 --> 02:37:42.320
I'm surprised we got this far without asking you this. Do you collect vinyl at all? I do. I do have a pretty nice collection, I would say. Mostly newer stuff. I'm starting to work my way backwards, finding some original presses and stuff. Recently, I dropped a lot of money on Nine Inch Nails because they are reissuing The Fragile and Broken, which are two albums that have been missing from my collection for many years.

02:37:43.779 --> 02:38:08.520
I felt the need to buy them. I dropped $200 on a vinyl of The Fragile once a while back because that's the cheapest I could find it because it goes for like $400 or something. Ridiculous. So now I dropped the $200. I finally said, fuck it. It's worth it. And then they reissue it and now it's $35. And I hate you, Trent Reznor.

02:38:09.400 --> 02:38:39.260
That's the way my sentenced albums were. I had to get all the sentenced ones, and they were all like 200, 300, and then they reissue them. Of course. Of course they did. Other ones I picked up, Isis, Wavering Radiant. They just did a repress of that with some really cool splatter wax and really cool package overall. And most of my vinyls have been coming just from live shows that I've gone to. Just picked up Red Fang's latest from their show. I'm trying to think who else.

02:38:39.620 --> 02:39:09.380
What did you think of Red Fang's new album? It's okay. I liked their debut album their most, actually. But it's good. I mean... Yeah, I didn't get the newest one. I think it just kind of fell off for me. It's definitely not what it used to be. But, you know... I'll tell you what, one of the best live shows I've ever seen, though. That's why I picked up the record. I enjoyed the show so much. I was like, yeah, I'm going to go get it, you know, whatever. And then I'll just listen to it at home. But I'm really liking the whole...

02:39:09.400 --> 02:39:39.300
I will buy your record at your show. I feel like it's more of a direct connection to the band. They're going to get the money. Yeah, exactly. As opposed to if you buy it at a store or something, you're giving the store some money. But yeah, most of the records I get now are that. Or I just bought the new Castlevania 2 soundtrack from the Nintendo era. Yeah! Mondo Tease made this really cool package with that, and they're doing all of them, actually. I got the first two now, so I'll be picking up all of those.

02:39:39.400 --> 02:40:08.140
I'm sure. Did you buy that for I Am 8-Bit? It's not from I Am 8-Bit. It's from Mondo Tease. I Am 8-Bit. I did buy some stuff from them, but no. Mondo Tease is the one that does. And they have a lot of really cool soundtracks from movies, obscure cult-y movies like Cannibal Holocaust and stuff like that that I would recommend checking out. Hey, I want to ask you about that Fragile reissue. Is it out now, you mean? You can buy it now on the Nine Inch Nails store.

02:40:14.660 --> 02:40:39.000
It's just the actual album, or is it this other weird thing that's out? This deviations thing? No, it's the out. There's two of them. Yeah, they have the deviations, and then there's the album. And it's the definitive edition of it, and it includes, you know, it's like remastered and everything, so it sounds better, and it's got extra tracks, like 10 Mile High, I think, is on there, which was like a B-side that never made it on the album. Okay, I got it. Yeah.

02:40:39.400 --> 02:41:09.220
I'm looking at it. I'm ordering it right now. That's actually one of my favorite records of theirs. Honestly, if there was a list of number one record of all time, Nine Inch Nails Fragile is always in that conversation for me. It's such a... The timing of when it came out and what was going on in my life, plus just the musicality, everything, the jazziness that happens and like, ripe decay and stuff like that. It's just such a great record and a lot of people don't listen to it because they think Nine Inch Nails, oh, it's industrial, whatever. But dude, musically, one of the greatest albums ever made, I think. Cool.

02:41:09.420 --> 02:41:39.340
Yeah, I'm going to pick it up. I actually just got the reissue of the downward spiral a couple, maybe a month or two ago. So, and I was kind of holding out hope for this one. So I'll pick it up. Yeah. Oh, all right. No vinyl for me, but I do have one box set that I picked up. I got it on CD because I just didn't feel like buying the vinyl. A decade of Dio, 83 to 93. Oh, yeah. Nice. That is slowly becoming into everybody's collection here. Yeah. I haven't heard of that.

02:41:39.420 --> 02:42:09.380
that one yet. What is that? It's this guy named Dio. He was in these cool bands from the 70s and 80s. I don't think I need to put anything else on my list after that. It's interesting you mentioned Dio because my kids love Black Sabbath. The other day I was playing them Heaven and Hell. I'm like, this is Black Sabbath, but it's a different singer. This guy's Dio. Now they love saying Dio. My kids love throwing their metal horns. When I told them that Dio is the one that sort of invented

02:42:09.440 --> 02:42:38.960
the metal horns in the metal world because he used to get it from his grandmother. Yeah, they were like, whoa. They were like, shut up, dad. Yeah, like, whoa. And then your daughter correct even said Gene Simmons invented those, didn't he? She did not, but anyway. Good. All right. I have a ton of stuff, so I'm going to run through it very quickly. Let me put on Dope Smoker. Yeah. Just the Druid, but anyway. I got,

02:42:39.400 --> 02:43:09.300
The Agropocalypse and Arc EP, which I for some reason didn't have them. Pre-ordered the new obituary and the couple songs they came out with. I'm loving it. There's been a lot of death metal this year that I've picked up. It seems like it's just one good album after another. I'm really missing a lot of doom. I picked up this band called Golden Core. The name of the album is Norwegian Stoner Machine. It's all instrumental. It's got some weird goat on the front cover.

02:43:09.400 --> 02:43:38.200
But it's really great stoner music. It's pretty much instrumental. Picked up some funeral death doom in the band called Gateway and their album Scriptures of Grief. It's an EP. Picked up the new The Nail to Obscurity, which we talked about, King Delusion, Galactic Empire, Warpath is the name of an album, a band, Bullets for the Desert Session. And it's basically a clone of Entombed, which seems like there's a lot of that going around lately.

02:43:38.820 --> 02:44:07.760
I got the new Dope Lord, Children of the Haze, which I'm really loving. I pre-ordered Mastodon. I guess Mastodon is sort of like pre-ordering Metallica and Megadeth. It's like sometimes like, all right, you know, I'm going to support you guys, but please don't suck. Please don't suck. Please don't suck. Picked up a band called Desert Fear and their album Dead Shores Rising, which is literally a clone of Entombed. Picked up this like straight, this interesting split,

02:44:08.440 --> 02:44:38.380
"Sacrificial Slaughter." It's called "American Death Thrash Split." It's two different bands. I forget the name of the bands, but it's pretty cool. A little split. "The New Hour of Penance," "Cast the First Stone." I get my little tech death in there. A local DC band, which I never heard of before. "Levers of Archimedes." And the name of the album is "Trip Ditch, Disentanglement." Tech Death from DC. Never even heard of them. So I'm kind of wondering if they're really from DC. Another one, another Swedish death metal. Very old school sound. The band's called "Sentient"

02:44:38.440 --> 02:45:05.480
and their album Ungodly Forms picked up The Otomous Circle, Appalling Ascension. I think Gregory from Canada mentioned that one to me. Got the new Memoriam, which we already talked about, pre-order. Rick, one of our listeners, recommended Necrot, The Labyrinth. Really loving that one. And last but not least, Death Doom and the band called Grim Ravine and The Light is From Below album. And that's it.

02:45:06.500 --> 02:45:35.680
Will, what do you do for a living outside of brewing? Because that's a lot of records to buy. Like, I would love to. If he tells you, here, I have to kill you, Eddie. I'm in the Marine Corps. I know you're not making money out of brewing. I know that. Nobody makes money in brewing unless you're huge. No, I'm in the Marine Corps, so I got some money coming in from that, and my wife makes a lot more money than me. Nice. All right. Jay.

02:45:36.480 --> 02:46:06.320
Some of these were very strategic purchases and some of them were just random things I found for 10 bucks or less. So just things fill out the collection. I got a good copy of ultimate sin. Ozzy for like seven bucks. I found a copy of Sloth Figs atavism, which is probably my second figure Sloth Fig album on a shelf the other day. I picked that up. It's been a couple extra bucks to get the brave new world vinyl because I really needed to have that iron maiden brave new world. But I found the Queensryche original EP, the first EP.

02:46:06.500 --> 02:46:36.460
I found that for like 10 bucks. Pick that up. Got Nevermore's Obsidian Conspiracy, which I was quickly reminded how much I kind of don't like that record very much. It's I needed to have it, but it's the first one after. What is it, John? After this Godless Endeavor, which is like my favorite Nevermore record. And Obsidian Conspiracy. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no

02:46:36.500 --> 02:47:06.460
You didn't say I'm sitting in conspiracy as number two. It's worth having just because it's worth a couple bucks on Discogs and I found it for cheap and it came with a 45 of cover of the crystal ship. I got finally my copy of big business command your weather found ICDC flick of the switch used copy pick that up Jethro toll benefit and finally they reissued the heaven and hell record which really should just been called black Sabbath but whatever devil you know I found a

02:47:06.480 --> 02:47:36.140
I reissue that on the shelf the other day and picked that up. All vinyl. Hey, Eddie, real quick, just to clarify, I don't have a record player, so everything I list, because it says vinyl or other purchases, these are all digital. Oh, okay. I was going to say, I'm like, god damn, that's a lot of records. Oh, no, no, no. Yeah, he's the one in the group that doesn't drink the Kool-Aid. I have a lot of records, because I get the FlexiDisc from Decibel every month, and I have a bunch of local records that I've picked up.

02:47:36.500 --> 02:47:36.880
Along the way.

02:47:37.090 --> 02:47:37.240
Uh,

02:47:37.540 --> 02:47:38.160
what is next?

02:47:38.750 --> 02:47:38.900
Uh,

02:48:06.520 --> 02:48:35.700
or stuff like that. And more so because Jay is like a brother to me and I love the guy so much. Jay, a decade of Dio, he bought me that. And it was my birthday. Other vinyl purchase, which by the way, man, I was listening to, is Dream Evil your favorite one, George? Is that what you're saying? Dream Evil, is that your favorite? My favorite Dio? No, Sacred Heart. Because if it was Dream Evil, I was going to say it's got to be because all the fools sail the waves on there. That is a brilliant song.

02:48:35.780 --> 02:49:05.740
I went through that whole box. I listened to the whole box last Sunday just in order. And I'd forgotten how much I like that particular song. I get tears when I listen to all the fools out of the way. You know what, though? I think maybe it lasts in line. Maybe. Maybe Rock and Roll Children. Yeah, that's good. Anyway. All right. I've only got a couple. I got the, and Jay probably got his too and forgot to mention it, the self-titled Black

02:49:06.040 --> 02:49:35.720
cancer vinyl. Yeah, sorry. He didn't forget that trash. Whatevs. And then since it had really nothing much to do with our last episode, but I did get chemists hunted on vinyl. Nice. I just hadn't. I was like, I don't have that? Okay, so anyway. They don't need your pity purchases. Yeah, whatever. And this one actually came, I think, around Christmas time, but we didn't do, our year-end episode didn't have a vinyl

02:49:35.760 --> 02:50:03.620
So it went off the radar. But the Metathonia Thrasenblot vinyl, I also have that. And currently on the way, I also have a Thrasenblot patch for the battle vest I'm building for Valken. And a knit Thrasenblot hat and a toque with little strings. Nice. Apparently there's a difference because he sold the one is toques and the one is knit hat. All right. Okay.

02:50:05.740 --> 02:50:08.540
I may have, but man, I'm kicking myself for not putting

02:50:09.800 --> 02:50:11.600
Metathonia on my year-end list.

02:50:11.720 --> 02:50:12.580
No, you didn't mention that.

02:50:13.580 --> 02:50:13.700
Yeah.

02:50:14.160 --> 02:50:15.180
Dude, it is catchy.

02:50:15.540 --> 02:50:16.100
It is.

02:50:16.680 --> 02:50:17.040
Good stuff.

02:50:17.380 --> 02:50:17.940
Totally kicking my...

02:50:18.260 --> 02:50:20.340
In fact, I was thinking we need to have a list of...

02:50:20.340 --> 02:50:20.700
We will.

02:50:20.900 --> 02:50:24.140
Yeah, what are you kicking yourself for not putting on your list in 2016?

02:50:25.060 --> 02:50:27.500
Eddie, if you heard the good word about Thrasenblatt...

02:50:28.540 --> 02:50:30.580
I think we should do that, Will, because I've been thinking that, too.

02:50:30.720 --> 02:50:32.840
There's a few that I've pulled back now that I've said, god damn it.

02:50:32.880 --> 02:50:35.680
Or pick something, pick one from everyone's list that you're like,

02:50:35.740 --> 02:50:36.340
Goddamn!

02:50:36.540 --> 02:50:38.280
Temis would be number one.

02:50:39.420 --> 02:50:41.700
In the mouth full, it's sugar donuts or something there.

02:50:43.720 --> 02:50:45.260
All right, we're in the homestretch.

02:50:45.600 --> 02:50:47.800
We've got deep tracks, and then we're done.

02:50:48.220 --> 02:50:50.300
Here's a song that you never fucking heard.

02:50:50.640 --> 02:50:52.340
Here's a song that we think you should know.

02:50:52.820 --> 02:50:55.060
Here's a song that you never fucking heard down the set.

02:50:57.120 --> 02:50:59.120
Here's a song that you never fucking heard.

02:50:59.440 --> 02:51:05.700
Here's a song that we

02:51:06.960 --> 02:51:34.380
Eddie, you got a deep track for us? I do. And it is Exotic Animal Petting Zoo. The band is that, that's the name of the band, Exotic Animal Petting Zoo. The song would be Through the Thicket Across Endless Mountains. And what is that? It's music. Okay. Exotic Animal Petting Zoo is very, I don't know how to describe them, very hectic. Exotic? Yeah.

02:51:35.720 --> 02:52:05.700
It's similar to Dillinger with very math-centric, but there's some really great melodies, an amazing guitar solo in that song. The first time I heard it, I described it to my girl as, it sounds like the dude is standing on a mountain during a storm, and it's like lightning, and he's doing that fucking solo up there, and it's the most epic fucking thing I've ever heard in my life. I got to... I've talked a lot to... I think Jack Black did a tribute to that. Yes, yes, yes. No, but I highly recommend it. I don't know how to

02:52:05.740 --> 02:52:35.600
I don't know how to describe it. Dillinger, RX Bandits, but heavier. I don't know. They're heavy and melodic, and it's awesome. I highly recommend that. Excellent. John? Well, you couldn't have been any more on target here. You mentioned Mastodon buying their new album, and it just made me shake my head because I don't care if bands change, but my God, that song Show Yourself is just fucking garbage. It is. I don't like it at all. Oh, God. It's so depressing.

02:52:35.720 --> 02:53:05.700
for me because I was such a huge fan. The other song was pretty good. It's alright until Brett Hines comes in and starts whining. I'm going all the way back to the early days, the demos, which they didn't see their first release until later on on Call of the Macedon. Or on the album Call of the Macedon, but the song is Call of the Macedon, which is just the reason why I'm getting so frustrated how you guys were when Metallica dropped the ball. That's how I feel about Macedon right now. Me too. That's one of my great

02:53:05.740 --> 02:53:35.560
I love the last 10 years and I'm not super excited about the new record. Brent Hines is not pleased with your comments. I really don't. Hey, Brent Hines doesn't even like metal anymore. So I mean, it just gets so depressed, you know, and again, I don't care that they change. That's fine. But the thing is, we all love like almost every single one of us. When we said our favorite albums the last 15 years, almost every single one of us had Leviathan on there. So we all love Macedon.

02:53:35.720 --> 02:54:05.660
I just don't love where they've gone. Yeah, I keep hoping that, again, you don't have to be a Leviathan. I just keep hoping something will change, but it's not. Just me. My Deep Track, going back to 1988. Had it on my mind. Off Sacred Reich, off Surf Nicaragua, their cover of War Pigs. I love it. Yeah. Great cover. Right on. All right, mine is from a record we all know and love, but there is a track on this that I think is definitely a deep track. I feel like John can guess what it is, but if anybody can guess it, I'll send you a record.

02:54:05.740 --> 02:54:06.240
And I mean,

02:54:06.320 --> 02:54:06.780
with you guys,

02:54:06.880 --> 02:54:08.300
I don't know what record Bill Collins,

02:54:08.420 --> 02:54:09.200
maybe off of,

02:54:09.320 --> 02:54:09.420
uh,

02:54:09.760 --> 02:54:14.520
somewhere in time,

02:54:14.800 --> 02:54:15.840
I remain somewhere in time.

02:54:16.060 --> 02:54:17.560
Who can name a deep track off the record?

02:54:17.640 --> 02:54:18.940
That is like a long,

02:54:19.120 --> 02:54:19.440
distant run.

02:54:19.780 --> 02:54:20.180
Sea of madness.

02:54:20.600 --> 02:54:22.300
I knew John would get it.

02:54:22.820 --> 02:54:23.260
Sea of madness.

02:54:23.500 --> 02:54:25.140
One of the great maiden riffs of all time.

02:54:25.540 --> 02:54:25.740
Yes.

02:54:26.160 --> 02:54:26.840
That's a good riff.

02:54:26.840 --> 02:54:28.900
I put that on my swimming iPod last week.

02:54:29.160 --> 02:54:30.460
And it's just such a good song.

02:54:30.720 --> 02:54:30.860
Wait,

02:54:30.860 --> 02:54:31.280
you haven't,

02:54:31.280 --> 02:54:32.580
you can swim with an iPod.

02:54:32.800 --> 02:54:32.880
Yeah.

02:54:32.920 --> 02:55:02.900
Yeah, I was going to say, you have a swimming iPod? No, swim pod. They take a shuffle and they waterproof it and they waterproof the earbuds somehow, and it's awesome, dude. Really? It's awesome. Does it sound like you're underwater? No, it's not. Does it sound like Monolord vocals? It sounds better underwater somehow. Like, when you're out in the water, it sounds all Treble. When you get underwater, it's spacey and great. There you go. We'll go swimming and put Monolord on in the pool and see what happens. Yeah, but that much worse, yeah. But, yeah, Sea of Madness. God, what a good song. Great song. It's weird because the reason why I said

02:55:03.620 --> 02:55:30.840
because Sea of Madness to me is not a deep track. And I know it's very subjective. I love that song. But it's one of my favorite songs on that album. So it's not deep to you. It's not deep. Yeah, it's not deep to me. But it's more of a compliment. But yeah, because it's a great song. Yeah, that just means we both like good music. That's right. I knew John would come up with it, though. I knew John was gonna be like Sea of Madness. And he nailed it. Duke, you got a deep, deep track this week? Yeah, of course I do. Don't say of course, it's half the time you don't.

02:55:35.000 --> 02:56:01.940
That's actually really true. But 1988 gave us Danzig and his first album. This is End of Time. Yes! Off of Danzig 1. It's self-titled. I love this song. That's my deep track. Hope you enjoyed my rendition of it earlier. Because I'm leaving that in. Alright, George.

02:56:02.540 --> 02:56:32.500
So I kind of phoned this one in because it was going to be related to my personal recommendation, which turned out to be related to my honorable mentions. This is from Running Wild, from Port Royal. This is Conquistadors. I was going to say push the button, George. I turned the F off a while ago. Where's all the sound effects, man? I just really haven't. I'm not real happy with a lot of them. I want to get some new ones, and I just don't know what to get. So if you have any ideas, but here's the

02:56:32.540 --> 02:57:02.460
I have an idea. Pusha crickets right now. Well, is it an app or something? What the hell is it? I broke your sound effects. Damn it, Eddie. Is it an app, George? Anyway, I think there's a problem. Whenever you're doing, stop. Stop. Actually, you know what? The static was better than the crickets ever could have been. Yeah, you know, we need to get one of those. Remember the TV screen at 2 a.m. when we were kids on a Saturday night? It was just that just feed.

02:57:02.540 --> 02:57:32.380
of static and just a big image of we're temporarily off the air now. After the national anthem. Can I give you another personal recommendation when you get a chance? Please. This is not heavy metal and it's not music. But if you play video games and you like knights, vikings, or samurais. For honor. I thought you were yelling. For honor. Who guessed that? Was that you, Eddie? Me, yeah. I'm a gamer. My fiance works at Activision. It's kind of like.

02:57:32.520 --> 02:58:02.400
Oh, really? Are you part of life? Pitfall, pitfall, pitfall. Are you playing the game? I haven't been playing. I have not been playing For Honor, but I have both Xbox One and a PS4. I got to get your content. We're going to talk. I'm going to warn you right now. He'll play naked with you. Okay. Oh, I play pantsless all the time. Okay. Perfect. You're in the club. All right. We are at the end. Finally, three hours and 45 minutes later.

02:58:02.540 --> 02:58:32.240
For us, it'll probably edit down to less. Eddie, thank you for coming on. And all of you listeners out there, make sure to check out Eddie's podcast, Rock and Roll Beer Guy. Thank you guys for having me on, man. Huge thanks, Eddie. Appreciate it, man. Thank you. I talked to him the other day on the phone like, oh yeah, probably like an hour and a half, two hours. Yeah, we were talking about that beforehand. Have you ever listened to this show, Will? We always run long. Yeah, I was like, yeah, yeah, sure, sure. An hour and a half, okay.

02:58:32.520 --> 02:59:02.240
Yeah. So, uh, no, seriously. Thanks for, thanks for having me on. So yeah, it's been a blast. Uh, and then, you know, rock and roll beer guy, rock, the letter N roll beer guy. Uh, that's the podcast. It's on Facebook. It's on Instagram. It's on SoundCloud, uh, iTunes all under that, you know, that just rock and roll beer guy. Um, yeah. Okay. So before we go, make sure to check us out too. Uh, we're on SoundCloud, we're on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Stitcher,

02:59:02.540 --> 02:59:10.720
And we are metalheads.com. And if you want to know what we're listening to, look us up on Bandcamp. Nice. We will talk to you next time. Cheers, guys. Cheers.

02:59:32.520 --> 02:59:54.580
You still listening? The show is over. Seriously, George, just turn it off. Turn it off. That's the end of the show. I don't know. People aren't even listening. They are listening, apparently. Seriously. Fuck you. Good night.
