Metalhead Podcast, Metalhead Podcast, go!

00:00:26.260 --> 00:00:28.020
You must listen.

00:00:28.900 --> 00:00:30.180
You must listen.

00:00:31.380 --> 00:00:32.580
You must listen.

00:00:36.440 --> 00:00:39.980
Now, here is the podcast, Metal Heads Podcast.

00:00:40.920 --> 00:00:42.420
Hello and welcome to the Metal Heads Podcast.

00:00:42.780 --> 00:00:43.600
My name is George.

00:00:44.540 --> 00:00:45.160
This is Jay.

00:00:46.260 --> 00:00:46.840
This is John.

00:00:47.640 --> 00:00:48.120
This is Matt.

00:00:48.660 --> 00:00:49.700
This is Markisan.

00:00:50.240 --> 00:00:55.300
And Will is too busy with the Philadelphia Phillies baseball to join us today.

00:00:55.800 --> 00:01:22.520
So, uh, boo, no, but I go Phillies though. Cause, uh, you know, fuck the Yankees, fuck the Astros, uh, national league all the way this time. So that means we don't have a guest today. Uh, so we're going to see what we can do with that. We do have a round table for you, but before we do that, just to piss well off, because we're going to get to it within the first three minutes. Let's do the t-shirt and beer check. Fastest ever. Fastest ever.

00:01:25.160 --> 00:01:55.100
We only do this when you're not here, Will. It'd be funny if it's like an hour long. Yeah. Bold to assume he's going to listen to this, too. Yeah, well, it probably won't be until like next July, but he'll get there. That would be you, Markisan. I go first. Okay, so my t-shirt is a Gate Creeper shirt. It's pretty cool. Check it out. Creeper at the Gate. Nice. I wouldn't want to see that guy on Halloween. Yeah, it's like a some kind of weird sketch.

00:01:55.160 --> 00:02:25.120
I held an axe guy and there's like a giant head below. There's a lot of dripping blood on it. Pretty cool. Just got it at the show that I was at a couple days ago. So that was really fun. And I am drinking a beer from Mars and it's called There's Always Beer in the Banana Stand. Nice. It is stout with Thai bananas and cocoa. So that would be a reference to

00:02:25.160 --> 00:02:53.600
You guys don't know? Sorry, there's always a... It's arrested development. He's always telling them there's always money in the banana stand. Oh, right, right, right. Remember that? And then he burns down the banana stand on his plate. He was like, no, there was money hidden in the banana stand. It's physically inside. So Captain and I had a meat and metal day. We do this sometimes where we just spend all day and we go to different Chicago places and have like sandwiches and go to different breweries.

00:02:54.280 --> 00:03:24.120
And so we went to Mars, went to a couple more. And then we go and buy metal at the record store. Bucket of Blood. And then there's a new one. You guys got to check this out called Meteor Gem. So I've bought stuff from them online, but now they have a physical store in Chicago. And it's all metal. It's great. And the owner's really cool. We were in there for like an hour and a half just talking about stuff. And I had not been there. I've been meaning to go to it. And it's like right down the street from Bucket of Blood as well.

00:03:24.300 --> 00:03:53.620
So nice to have another place for good, good metal, good vinyl. When I was in Michigan a couple weeks ago, I got to go to my old haunt. It's called Rock of Ages in Garden City outside of Detroit. And I haven't been there in 25 years. And it's pretty much an almost exclusively metal place. I mean, it has like rock and they've branched out into like some hip hop rap stuff.

00:03:53.760 --> 00:03:54.660
In a section.

00:03:54.980 --> 00:03:56.500
Meteor Gem doesn't fuck with that shit.

00:03:56.740 --> 00:04:07.340
But this was where I used to go back in the day to find all the imports and stuff and pay $30 for a blind guardian CD and things like that.

00:04:07.520 --> 00:04:08.440
So it was pretty cool.

00:04:08.920 --> 00:04:13.440
It's funny because I haven't been there in 25 years and they had a sign up saying they were celebrating their 38th year.

00:04:14.520 --> 00:04:16.880
So I guess I was there during their infancy.

00:04:18.560 --> 00:04:18.959
Nice.

00:04:20.480 --> 00:04:20.680
Anyway.

00:04:21.180 --> 00:04:21.260
Sorry.

00:04:21.799 --> 00:04:21.959
Anyway.

00:04:22.160 --> 00:04:22.300
Sweet.

00:04:22.900 --> 00:04:22.980
Yeah.

00:04:23.280 --> 00:04:23.540
That's it.

00:04:23.540 --> 00:04:52.280
Yeah, bought some metal, had some breaded steak sandwiches, which are amazing here. I don't know if you guys have ever had that before. You mean like when they bread a steak at IHOP or something? I like how George is speculating, but no. No, they take steak and then they pound it out really thin and then they bread it and then they kind of roll it up and they make it almost like a chicken parm sandwich.

00:04:54.280 --> 00:05:23.500
It's got red sauce on there and cheese and peppers, giardiniera. It's like a staple here in Chicago. One of the best sandwiches I've ever had, actually. Awesome. I saw that Pizza Hut's starting to sell Detroit-style pizza, and I was thinking back to MDF when we had that at the tent there. That was really good, man. Was it good because we were drunk, or was it actually?

00:05:23.560 --> 00:05:53.460
It was actually good. I don't know. It was pretty good. It was crispy. I like a crispy pizza. Anyway, it's Matt Stern. Hey, yo, I'm wearing Crip Sermon t-shirt and I just opened up. It is a 2022 Whistle Monkey from Firestone Walker. This is a barrel-aged Belgian quad and that's all I know. All right. Bad that you strap in.

00:05:54.020 --> 00:05:54.380
Yes.

00:05:54.780 --> 00:05:56.520
That's a pretty big beer to start the night off with.

00:05:56.880 --> 00:05:57.340
Sure is.

00:05:57.530 --> 00:05:57.860
Sure is.

00:05:57.940 --> 00:05:58.860
I'm going to be sipping this one.

00:05:59.100 --> 00:06:00.060
I love Belgians.

00:06:00.420 --> 00:06:03.480
You got your Snuggie and your hoodie ready to go?

00:06:03.550 --> 00:06:06.580
You know, I'm actually on the main level of the house because nobody's home,

00:06:06.690 --> 00:06:08.660
and so I don't have to freeze myself.

00:06:09.020 --> 00:06:09.640
It'll be kind of cool.

00:06:09.700 --> 00:06:11.080
It'll be Snuggie-less the whole night, I think.

00:06:11.140 --> 00:06:11.580
Snuggie-less.

00:06:11.700 --> 00:06:14.060
So, but I always keep one close.

00:06:14.440 --> 00:06:14.860
All right.

00:06:16.200 --> 00:06:22.160
Okay, so my shirt I'm wearing, oh boy, unusual to wear an Opith shirt, but it's unusual

00:06:22.350 --> 00:06:23.340
because it's a green logo.

00:06:23.440 --> 00:06:53.400
which they don't have many of those of the gazillion shirts that I have and it's from the heritage tour which they used a record player or showed an album on a turntable and they put the dates in the grooves on the album and they went in a circle so it's kind of a cool shirt I haven't worn it in years and I thought I'd switch it up because I'm wearing the same 10 shirts so gotta dig through the closet and say all right these 10 get shelved for the next five years and gotta pull 10 more out and I'm drinking a staple beer for me I'm drinking

00:06:53.560 --> 00:07:22.660
Lunch from Maine. Beer Company. Outstanding, outstanding. Double IPA. So good. It says, I'm waiting supper here, which I'll be eating soon. It's called dinner. In honor of the Thunder on the Motorhead California shirt, the Motorhead special, I think it was Independence Day, where you could get any state on the shirt.

00:07:23.420 --> 00:07:53.360
I don't know what it is man. They keep releasing all these special edition ones which I'm pointing to right now. Which you can't see on the podcast obviously. And every time I've ordered one of these things I've ordered a shirt. I've got like 10 Motorhead shirts now. It's getting out of control. So I've got to start wearing them out. 10 Motorhead shirts. John has 72 old Peth shirts. They all say different things on them but they all have the War Pig in some way.

00:07:54.200 --> 00:08:23.300
And then a different word down at the bottom. So it's ridiculous. But yeah. And that's slightly in honor of spoiler alert. Our slender. Yeah, indeed. J. Warpig Dickinson sounds pretty good. Not to interrupt. I have to correct myself. This is not a double IPA. It's just an IPA. So I don't want somebody calling me out later on. How disappointing, John. Jesus. Only a single IPA. Fuck. Well, you know how the internet is. It's still good. You're just going to have to drink.

00:08:25.080 --> 00:08:53.200
There you go. That's what double IPA means. Thank you, Marcus. I have been enlightened. All right. Me? I'm guessing so. I'm wearing my brand new art shirt banner of the saint. Nice. Courtesy of Mark Deeks. Well, not courtesy. I paid for it, but he sent it to me. Yeah, this is like my first new shirt to go into rotation.

00:08:53.420 --> 00:08:54.120
in quite a while.

00:08:55.490 --> 00:08:56.500
Yeah, it looks crisp.

00:08:56.920 --> 00:08:57.080
It is.

00:08:57.260 --> 00:08:58.140
First wear.

00:08:58.760 --> 00:09:00.340
This is the maiden voyage of this shirt.

00:09:01.240 --> 00:09:01.540
Nice.

00:09:01.800 --> 00:09:03.700
And I'm drinking

00:09:06.740 --> 00:09:07.620
Kushwa Brewing

00:09:08.240 --> 00:09:10.520
West Coast Dank Pursuit,

00:09:10.960 --> 00:09:13.360
which is a West Coast double IPA.

00:09:14.320 --> 00:09:15.860
And it's danky, which is nice.

00:09:16.300 --> 00:09:18.600
No, no, New England hazy.

00:09:18.600 --> 00:09:19.760
Well, make sure it's a double.

00:09:20.700 --> 00:09:20.860
Yeah.

00:09:21.320 --> 00:09:21.720
It is.

00:09:21.750 --> 00:09:22.320
It is a double.

00:09:22.410 --> 00:09:22.960
And I've got them.

00:09:25.040 --> 00:09:51.960
And then, just because I'm going to get into this next, I've had this one before, but the Rogue Newport Knights, also a West Coast, is it a double? No. So you got four there. It doesn't say that it's a double, but it's got more alcohol. That's weird. Really? Yeah, it's like, this is only like, and it doesn't matter. Anyway, so that's what I'm into. I have no more mead.

00:09:53.040 --> 00:10:22.920
I've still got like 20 bottles of it. I'm so lost without you. Okay. Sad. That's, uh, I need like some like third rate celebrity to come in and say, these were the hits of our time back in the seventies. Do a 30 minute infomercial that you start out saying this is bullshit. And you watch it like four times in a row. Yeah.

00:10:23.820 --> 00:10:52.140
All right. Oh, that reminds me before we get into the roundtable. As a music nerd, do you ever find yourself, like, people say things and you just, like, in your head turn it into, like, well, that's a song title that, you know, I know. And you're like. So, for instance, the other day we had this ant problem and we put down ant bait and there was just piles of dead ants.

00:10:54.240 --> 00:11:22.980
And Barb comes down and goes, wow, that is death and destruction. And I said, and don't forget the chaos, because that's an exploited song, death, destruction, and don't forget the chaos. Do you ever do that? Or am I just a fucking weirdo? Yeah, I do. And then everyone looks at me like I'm an idiot, because they don't know what I'm talking about. And I'm like, well, it's your loss. And I just move on. Yeah, I find that just about every situation in my life, I can find a song that suits it. I just did it to myself, because I was like, I'm all out of meat. And then I started singing that. Yeah, exactly. That's what made me think of it.

00:11:23.040 --> 00:11:52.340
I was like, hey, so anyway. We do that a lot. I feel like with us, like, unless we were around each other, no one would ever appreciate, you know, what song we're filling in. Like, I'm sure Barb didn't appreciate, you know. No clue. Whereas I would have been like, fucking amazing. Like, yeah. Like, we would have high five. She's like, are you having a stroke? What usually happens is like, somebody will say something like, I'm on the phone or if I'm watching television and then I'll think of a song and then sing it to my cat.

00:11:53.040 --> 00:12:23.000
That's what usually happens. So, George, I actually had that happen at work, just real quick. I was training a new employee, and we were doing it over Zoom. And we couldn't see each other, but I was sharing my screen so she could see what I was doing. And something came up, and I was waiting for something. And I said, well, look, I want to make an inside joke here, but I don't know if you know what this is, but did you ever see the original Star Wars film? And she's like, no, I don't think so. She's like 22, 23. So I'm like, this is already, I'm flying that

00:12:23.020 --> 00:12:29.540
that goes right into this death star without getting a shot off yeah you know in the trench and i'm like well

00:12:29.590 --> 00:12:34.100
yeah so whenever i'm with my friends and we're waiting for something somebody will always say

00:12:34.440 --> 00:12:40.060
stay on target you know yeah stay on target and i wanted to say it's like wow that's that's cool

00:12:40.500 --> 00:12:48.059
i'm like not cool i can't even bring up star wars anymore can't can't land it how do you not know this

00:12:48.060 --> 00:13:18.040
It's like the greatest scene ever in movie history. I'll tell you something that happens to me frequently and this isn't special about me. I think about music all the time. I'm sure you guys do too. Like it's like if I'm just walking on the street, some phrase will be going through my head constantly or whatever. But something that happens to me a lot or frequently enough to mention it is that I'll be like if I go to Target or something and I'll be, I will have been listening to, let's just say randomly Run to the Hills or something in the car.

00:13:19.660 --> 00:13:48.020
and I get into Target and I go and I do my shopping just over and over and over again. I keep going, that's all your life. Just one very specific part of the song. Yeah, I do that too. I get back in the car and I realize it's because that's where the song stopped and I want desperately to finish the music. You need resolution. Yeah, and I've said this happens to me a lot and I'm just like, why am I just thinking about that one part of that guitar song? Because I was just about to hear it and I didn't fucking hear it. I've heard that that's a lot of, or not a lot of, but like,

00:13:48.080 --> 00:14:16.780
A lot of times when you have an earworm, that's why. It's because the song got cut off and your brain's trying to finish it. If you go back and listen to the song in its entirety, then it'll get out of your head. Yeah, totally. That and another thing that happens to me in grocery stores is I'll hear. I used to work at a grocery store in the middle of the night. And I would hear music, popular music on the radio. And let's just say the sound of silence or, you know, something like that. But there would be so much white noise and other weird fucking noise that literal, like, music would get kind of bent.

00:14:16.900 --> 00:14:46.840
and I would hear something wrong and I would hear like some whole other song and I'd be like that's a cool fucking song and then I'd get closer to the speaker and I'd be like oh it's time to silence and I'd be like somebody else should write that other fucking song like that's happened to me a bunch of times music gets distorted and I just catch one part of it and it's wow you know but yeah fuck I love music yeah music's kind of cool I do something a little stranger if I'm in the supermarket by myself shopping and I'm looking for something I finally find it I do Elaine Staley I'm like yeah

00:14:46.860 --> 00:15:16.840
Yeah! Yeah! I'm more of a head-filling. Yeah! People just kind of look over me, and I'm like, and I just give them the, you know, the Robert Redford, you know, he's dressed up like the mountain man. He just, like, smiles. He's like, mm-hmm. I just do that. Keep walking. And people are like, stay away from that guy. I get that look from everybody anyway, but. Yeah. All right. I think we all do. I'm going to be back in 30 seconds. I just want you to think I'm going to be back. It's hot and hard to get with me. Huh. It's like a 30-second

00:15:16.880 --> 00:15:46.340
Time Out in an NFL game or something? Jay's got to cool down. He's got to get some ice for his drawers. It's like one of those timeouts in a game now where they split the screen and they show the commercial on one side and they show them still on the field. But since it's only 30 seconds, they don't want you to miss what's really going to happen in that 30 seconds, which is absolutely nothing. But they got to get a commercial in at the same time. Well, I appreciate that because then I have something to look at other than the commercial. Right.

00:15:47.360 --> 00:15:50.740
But it's silly because it's impossible to have a 30 second timeout.

00:15:51.340 --> 00:15:55.400
It literally takes 10 seconds to run to the sideline and back.

00:15:55.770 --> 00:15:56.440
True, true.

00:15:58.800 --> 00:16:08.940
So because we don't have a guest today, we decided to go on to ye olde Google Docs and pick a topic for a roundtable today.

00:16:09.550 --> 00:16:12.000
Or at least I decided and y'all have to do it anyway.

00:16:12.100 --> 00:16:12.760
So,

00:16:14.100 --> 00:16:15.080
but the,

00:16:15.340 --> 00:16:21.180
the topic that was chosen is which bands are taking over the metal mantle from the legacy bands.

00:16:21.380 --> 00:16:26.240
Who will be the big hitters of the coming years?

00:16:27.240 --> 00:16:27.360
So,

00:16:27.360 --> 00:16:27.460
you know,

00:16:27.580 --> 00:16:31.020
can I just add that the subtitle of this topic is we're screwed.

00:16:34.740 --> 00:16:36.600
Who will be the guardians of the galaxy?

00:16:38.800 --> 00:16:39.040
Yes,

00:16:39.520 --> 00:16:40.460
we are definitely screwed.

00:16:41.180 --> 00:17:11.100
You know, once there's no more Sabbath or Ozzy or Kiss or Maiden or Priest, you know, who will be the top of the heap that raises the flag on the hill of metal? So I'm going to say two things off the top here, and that is the challenge that lies before any band who might achieve that status. It's two things that the record industry has completely collapsed and different now, and they don't nurture bands.

00:17:11.160 --> 00:17:41.080
and do all the things that they used to do. And also the whole fucking situation is so fucking flooded. But also it is difficult when these bands like Maiden and Sabbath and stuff all had such long storied careers and so much ground has been fucking covered. So I'm not saying there's not a lot of good music in our future. It's just you only get to hear Black Sabbath for the first time once, you know, and then everything that they did.

00:17:43.039 --> 00:18:09.080
So whoever it is has to be fucking great songwriters first and foremost. And amongst other things. But anyway, I see those those challenges as part of the reason this is such a hard question to ask. Who's the asshole that came up with this? That would be me. Okay. Well, fuck you, John. Because I want to believe that, you know, I'd rather go to club shows, but somebody's going to be playing in the arena for 10 years, right?

00:18:12.300 --> 00:18:41.020
There is no one. To be honest with you. No. And I'll tell you why. If it's okay, if you guys don't mind me cutting in here for a second and giving you this. It's not a long list. We already discussed this beforehand. And then you guys can feed off if you want. Because I know, George, you were saying you didn't have anyone really to think of. I have a couple, but they're not like super. They're not. I don't think there is anyone that is. Because if you think about it, after Metallica, who used to be big, but they're still big. They can still go out and tour.

00:18:41.180 --> 00:19:09.800
They could literally tour their first four albums until the end of their career if they wanted to. And people would probably still go. So I came up with this list and I'm looking at it and I'm thinking that it's only because of attrition that these bands would come up and be potentials. Now, and some of these bands I'm not a fan of, so I threw them on there anyway. But yeah. But that's sort of the point. Yes. Is that if you're going to be that big, you know, it's like.

00:19:10.460 --> 00:19:39.840
We probably won't like them. We're not going to like them anymore. I mean, although we do tend, I mean, other than people that don't like Metallica, people still like Maidens, people still like Priest, Sabbath, stuff, so. All right, so what do you guys think of this? These are the names I came up with. They're not big, some of these, but they seem to be names that show up in the press a lot. They seem to have more fans now than they did when they sort of hit their early strides and became popular. Uh-oh. Yeah.

00:19:40.460 --> 00:20:08.280
All right, but hear me out. So the first one I'll throw out there is a band I don't like. I don't care for them, but they're big. The first one would be Slipknot. That was the one that just came to mind, and I was like, oh, yeah. They're a big band. People like them, and they're already, I would say, if you put Legacies as the first tier, and that would include everything from the Sabbaths through the Metallica type bands. The next tier, they'd be a next tier band. They pull in a lot of fans.

00:20:10.460 --> 00:20:40.160
They're playing arenas right now. Right. And that's kind of key to this question is, you know, who's going to be able to draw arena level crowds? And Slipknot's one of them. And Marcus, you're right. They've been around a long time, but they would be that next level band that would start to be like, well, okay, Maiden's gone, Priest's gone. Who's the next big band? Well, that's the next level. These bands have been around 20 years plus. They're on my list. I had two, so I'm interested to see if the other one. All right. So I'll go now with two more.

00:20:40.460 --> 00:21:09.760
One I like, I like both bands. One I like more than the other, but Tool is one of them, but they need to pull out albums, but they're a bigger band. Maybe they don't draw as much as Slipknot does because they probably don't have the same crowd. And they're not technically considered metal. You know who they are? You know who they are in the like, it's their Big Floyd. Like really, you know what I mean? That's who they replace them. I know they're not that much like Big Floyd. They're just kind of weird and off center. Yeah, exactly. And enough pothead college kids like them that they're always going to fill it with. Always.

00:21:09.800 --> 00:21:38.660
And people are always looking forward to when they might release an album like they did with the last one. People were really jazzed up for it, even though it had been a long time. Now, I don't know if this is a good one to pull, but they seem to be getting bigger and bigger, even though I don't like anything they put out recently. And that's I'm on a Marth. They're sort of getting bigger. That's my number one. That was the one that I was like, they're fucking huge. I mean, they did that surprise set at Valken and it was like, you know, massive. All their shows are big. Yeah.

00:21:39.720 --> 00:22:08.560
I think they've maxed out. I'm just going to throw that out. No, but then people said that about Metallica after, you know, a point too. Here's an American band that apparently everyone's really digging right now that they've righted their ship, which I never even knew their ship needed to be right because I never got into them. Lamb of God seems to be really big right now again. That was the other one on my list. I've got one more, but that was one that I thought of. And am I two lesser bands?

00:22:08.700 --> 00:22:37.120
But they're playing with all these bands would be Mastodon and Gojira. They're not as big as those bands. They certainly don't pull in like them, but do they start to get pulled into that list? Because there's no one after that. Yeah, I mean, they're going to have to be, I mean, they're already headliners, but you know, they're going to have to step up. I'm not going to put bands like Korn and Five Finger Death Punch on this list. I'm just not, I don't have any issues with Korn. I don't like the music, but I mean, I don't have an issue with them. Five Finger Death Punch, I just fuck.

00:22:39.700 --> 00:23:08.680
So I have three more bands real quick. I have a maybe band. Sabaton. They seem to just keep chugging along and getting bigger and bigger. I don't know if they'll ever. Jay. In Europe. You said Amata Marthas kind of maxed out. Maybe Sabaton has too, but they seem to keep getting bigger and bigger. I agree. Well, I think they're getting bigger here too because they recently just played in Hawaii. And a friend of mine, Frank, who's not in a metal, went to go see them. And he said he really enjoyed

00:23:08.740 --> 00:23:38.500
the show because he knew I liked metal and so when a band came around he's like oh I might give him a shot and they have a lot of those you know folk elements and stuff that could cross over to more of a mainstream audience. And they got that whole niche of being like into military history and people kind of dig that you know. Sorry George. I was just gonna say you know they're like on the power metal side of things but they're on the cool heavy side of power metal. Yeah I mean I agree. I agree. Oh yeah because even if I'm not a fan if say we all went to a festival and they played.

00:23:38.700 --> 00:24:08.680
you know I'm going to watch them for sure just because I know that their sets are supposedly just tons of energy. They seem like they're okay guys. I don't know. Then I have two should have bands. One obviously I'm going to say is going to be Opeth because they are big but they'll never be as big as any of those bands but they should have been big had they not had a career change. I don't know. I still think they've got it. They're going to figure into it. But they're not going to be a band like Slipknot obviously or a band like

00:24:08.700 --> 00:24:32.480
Like Lame of God, or Tool. They're not going to garner that, but that's where we're dropping to when you start parsing through these names. And in a band that should be big, I'm sorry, I'm into them right now. I love them. And I don't listen to power metal. George can probably figure this out. Because I only go on about one power metal band. But Blind Guardian should be big. They should be huge. And they're not, unfortunately. They are in Europe, but they're not here. And it pisses me off because I fucking love Blind Guardian.

00:24:32.540 --> 00:25:02.480
I still think they'll be considered part of the top tier by metal fans, even if not by the public at large. As the other bands drop off, Blind Guardian's definitely going to be a legacy band. But you just hit it right on the nail. I don't know if you intended that, though, but they'll be big by metal standards. But would they be big by commercial? They won't be filling arena standards, no. Yeah, exactly. Now, they might in Europe. I know they play festivals.

00:25:02.580 --> 00:25:07.900
and they can garner a lot of fans there but festivals in europe are different than here

00:25:08.300 --> 00:25:13.680
because people will go to see anything to go to a festival i mean they have just the craziest

00:25:13.980 --> 00:25:21.400
lineups oh another band i want to put them in here i'm not i don't dislike them but i'm not a fan

00:25:21.810 --> 00:25:28.140
but rammstein plays just massive crowds you know they really do and they put on by far one of the

00:25:28.260 --> 00:25:32.520
best shows even if you don't like them you would go see them just because their shows are amazing so

00:25:33.600 --> 00:26:02.500
I don't like that band but I saw the show and it was pretty impressive yeah a lot of fire yeah oh yeah have you ever seen that the time lapse video on YouTube of them setting up their stage and one of those it's like six minutes and I just watched it twice I was like this is fucking amazing what they did yeah so not to hog the time early on but I really racked my brain trying to find bands and you could see how it drops really fast not that those bands aren't good bands it's just the mass appeal

00:26:02.540 --> 00:26:32.480
is not there as much. A key factor there too, though, John, and this is interesting, and I think those are all legitimate choices that you've pulled out, but none of those bands are younger than 10 or 15 years old, and maybe 20, a lot of them. So that's what's really funny, is it is hard to reach any more into the broth right now than what we see come out now. Just there's not. Right. I mean, what could it be? I don't know. And that's the thing. They've been around a long time. They've toured so much.

00:26:32.520 --> 00:27:02.500
and so they've built up that following so we don't know what's going to happen with some of these newer bands that might have like one or two albums you know where are they going to move to are they going to maybe try to cater to more of a mainstream some bands try to do that you know like the sword we're going to talk they just broke up we're going to talk about the news like they were starting to get bigger they were okay so i could i could think only one band Markisan that fits that and they're not really a metal band they're a rock band more than a metal band but ghost is the only band i could think of that

00:27:03.940 --> 00:27:22.020
just grown and grown and grown. But as they've grown, their metal, which was never really metal, was kind of that proto-70s, sabbathy pentagram type metal, which I don't have anything wrong. I dislike any of that. But they've kept getting bigger and bigger, but they've gotten more and more commercial. I'm not going to knock them. That's what they want to do. Go for it.

00:27:22.480 --> 00:27:31.180
Yeah, no, I never knock it. I just might not listen to it. Yeah, but that's a band that, do they eventually get thrown in that mix because they just keep growing?

00:27:31.880 --> 00:28:01.580
They are filling arenas right now too. Yeah, they are. I don't know if they're filling the same size of arenas in America as they are in Europe, but I know they're playing big fucking places. And they've, say what you want about them, they are a touring machine. Granted, it's a whole different band every time they go out, and it's the one main guy. That's a joke, because he's always changing band members, but they're, all these bands actually too, maybe minus two a little bit, just because they don't put out as much music.

00:28:01.860 --> 00:28:31.740
They're all touring machines, all those bands. I mean, they can tour to death. So that might be the only reason why they're on the list in the end, minus Slipknot. They have a huge appeal. So. Yeah. The one I was going to add was Trivium. At some point. I used to, back before they went to commercial and I stopped liking them, I was like, these guys are going to be the next Metallica. And. A lot of people were saying that about them at one point. Yeah.

00:28:31.860 --> 00:29:01.600
Like after like the second third album, I was like, oh shit, these guys are the future. And then it went a little eh. But like Markisan the ice, I like the last one. It's really good. It is. So, you know, who knows? He puts himself out there for a lot. He's always on somewhere on Sirius XM always talking. He's always talking about albums and bands he likes from the underground, which I'll give him that. He's got grub. Yeah. Remember George, you and I were joking. I was like, hey, he's on XM, Sirius XM.

00:29:01.640 --> 00:29:31.600
He's talking about black metal like I didn't know shit we were joking I was like dude he's dropping some serious fucking names right now yeah I like Hefe I like that guy yeah he's a good guy see him on stuff yeah I don't always like the music but that last album I it it spoke to me I thought that was really a great record another band that tours a ton did you like his uh solo black metal produced by Eson album I didn't listen to that that's the uh let me see it begins with an I but I've seen

00:29:34.780 --> 00:29:59.820
Yeah, I saw them before, like after their first album that nobody had that they self-released, before the second album came out, I saw them at the Wrecker Theater in Towson on this teeny-ass little stage. And I was like, holy shit, these guys are amazing. I saw them at the festival, so I didn't go to actually see them, but I was like, I'm kind of curious.

00:30:00.480 --> 00:30:29.900
You know, I'm going to throw out a weird one real quick, if you don't mind. And it's, they're a very old band actually, to be blunt. But it only occurs to me because I follow them on Facebook and they never don't play a huge fucking show. Carcass is fucking huge, dude. Now, a lot of those are festival things, but they don't play the small rooms. And I think if they really set their minds to a foot record out every two years, just came out with the fucking touring, those guys would A, be rich.

00:30:30.480 --> 00:31:00.420
which I think they at least do okay now. Yeah. And I don't, and they're probably a little extreme to, to be that legacy band. But like, think of like when we saw them the last two times we saw them. Like when we all saw them together in the US and then we saw Psycho Vegas. And they were as, they were full and fuller than any of the other bands we saw. Everybody wants to fucking see Carcass. Yeah. I would say Cannibal Corpse is like that too. Oh, that's a good point. Yeah. I thought, I thought of them, but they seemed a little extreme.

00:31:00.520 --> 00:31:01.380
for mass appeal.

00:31:02.040 --> 00:31:02.940
That's what I was going to say.

00:31:03.290 --> 00:31:03.380
Absolutely, John.

00:31:03.450 --> 00:31:07.040
They're never going to get like a Megadeth level or something.

00:31:07.320 --> 00:31:09.640
But they definitely in the metal world, yeah.

00:31:10.060 --> 00:31:10.140
Yeah.

00:31:10.240 --> 00:31:11.140
They're up there.

00:31:11.280 --> 00:31:14.540
They're about as big as you can be being that extreme metal.

00:31:14.700 --> 00:31:14.880
Yeah.

00:31:15.220 --> 00:31:15.380
Right.

00:31:15.380 --> 00:31:15.500
I agree.

00:31:16.040 --> 00:31:16.180
Yeah.

00:31:16.380 --> 00:31:20.220
All the stuff we're talking about does not really include extreme metal because extreme

00:31:20.290 --> 00:31:24.040
metal is just not going to hit with the mainstream.

00:31:25.020 --> 00:31:28.220
Unless, I don't know, you know, we're a bunch of old fuckers, you know, maybe in a couple

00:31:28.280 --> 00:31:28.800
years it will.

00:31:29.920 --> 00:31:59.880
You know, Stranger Things will put out season 12 and there'll be a Cannibal Corpse song on there and all of a sudden everybody fucking likes Cannibal Corpse and who knows. The closest it gets is Slipknot and I'm not a Slipknot fan, but they are, to be fair, I think they're pretty much on the extreme side of the line. To be fair. Yeah, that is true. You gotta categorize them as extreme. Yeah. So it can be done, you know. You just gotta wear really creepy masks. And insert clean vocals in.

00:32:00.320 --> 00:32:01.140
between your screens.

00:32:01.480 --> 00:32:02.120
A list of bands,

00:32:02.200 --> 00:32:02.420
Microsoft,

00:32:02.620 --> 00:32:03.440
you said you were going to share?

00:32:03.700 --> 00:32:03.820
No,

00:32:03.820 --> 00:32:04.420
we hit them all.

00:32:04.540 --> 00:32:04.700
I mean,

00:32:04.720 --> 00:32:05.980
we basically hit all of them.

00:32:07.000 --> 00:32:10.760
So what about like kill switch engage and in flames?

00:32:11.100 --> 00:32:12.500
And I think their time has passed.

00:32:12.880 --> 00:32:14.020
I didn't include kills,

00:32:14.520 --> 00:32:15.740
which engaged for the same reason.

00:32:15.780 --> 00:32:17.400
I include a corn.

00:32:17.960 --> 00:32:19.340
Not that I disliked them or anything.

00:32:19.680 --> 00:32:20.420
I just,

00:32:20.540 --> 00:32:21.200
I dislike them.

00:32:21.200 --> 00:32:21.660
I'm not a fan.

00:32:22.040 --> 00:32:22.540
I'm not a fan.

00:32:23.780 --> 00:32:24.720
I think they're kind of passed.

00:32:24.740 --> 00:32:26.940
I think they're now they have a niche following,

00:32:27.200 --> 00:32:27.620
you know,

00:32:28.340 --> 00:32:29.880
the rest of their career is going to be like,

00:32:29.900 --> 00:32:59.460
in Saxon's career now. You know what I mean? Like they're out there and a lot of people know who they are, but they really can't pull in more than 5,000 people, probably. Yeah, I mean, I would throw Deftones in there. I mean, they've been around a long time. And they're pretty big and, you know, a lot of metal elements to that. So, you know, it's weird because I don't feel like they catered to the mainstream. They just do what they do, but somehow it's crossed over. So, yeah, throw that in there. Here's a band that kind of straddles into metal.

00:32:59.900 --> 00:33:29.400
a bit, maybe just because of the guitarist, but all of a sudden now they seem to be huge. They have always been a big band, but now they, for some reason out of the blue, they're on this massive tour, Alice in Chains. This current tour, I mean, they, of course, it's a big name tour because there's other names on the bill, but I mean, they've got this second life. It's almost like a third life now because they've already, this is like a second go around as the current band. Not that they disappeared or anything,

00:33:29.900 --> 00:33:59.520
It's been a little while since they toured. And they got this big deal out there right now. And it's weird, too, because I didn't realize that they were as big again. And they are, because you see these tours, and I hear about people going and kind of reliving those past hits, but also really enjoying the newer stuff as well. So that's a good one, John. Yeah. A second tier band that I liked the first four albums, then I stopped liking them as much, even though I picked up stuff.

00:33:59.920 --> 00:34:29.240
Arch Enemy seems to be continuously getting bigger, even though I don't like what they're doing anymore. All right. So we got to focus on bands we don't like. Yeah. But they're a second tier. I don't think they would ever be considered a first tier following the legacies. No, for sure. Yeah. But that shows you how thin it gets. Now, of course, I might be missing a ton of bands, but I don't know. I seem to think all of us can. Well, that's part of the problem I had was that I'm looking for bands that I like and bands that I like are probably not going to hit that.

00:34:29.260 --> 00:34:31.419
that, you know, pinnacle.

00:34:32.340 --> 00:34:33.700
No, they never will, because you can't.

00:34:34.860 --> 00:34:34.919
Yeah.

00:34:35.260 --> 00:34:35.360
Yeah.

00:34:35.879 --> 00:34:42.480
And so you got to think about the bands that, well, they're more popular and not necessarily bad, just not my cup of tea.

00:34:45.399 --> 00:34:47.480
And that's probably where it's going to go.

00:34:48.800 --> 00:34:49.000
So.

00:34:49.679 --> 00:34:50.940
Which maybe that's always been true.

00:34:51.090 --> 00:34:51.600
You know what I mean?

00:34:51.710 --> 00:34:57.100
Like, really, metal has never really been, hasn't been the center of the universe since the 80s.

00:34:57.260 --> 00:34:57.480
And sure.

00:34:57.840 --> 00:34:59.140
I mean, there's still big bands out there.

00:34:59.200 --> 00:35:29.180
out there making a living and stuff but the industry machine never got behind it like it did in the 80s and now it isn't it's kind of a niche thing i mean and obviously things like you know valken and a million other things drawn a thousand people but or thousands of people but i don't know i mean it's also this it's the problem with the internet too though everything's so spread out i mean how are you gonna fuck or conquer that fucking thing yeah you know the record companies were a curse but they were also a blessing because they were a gatekeeper or in markuson's case a great

00:35:31.840 --> 00:35:58.760
And we need gatekeepers, man. I feel like some of those female-fronted metal bands have definitely grown. They're not female-fronted bands. They're metal bands. I know they're metal, but I'm just saying they have the female singers. If you just switch it around, apparently it's acceptable, even though you're saying the same thing. A male-fronted metal band? No, they're a metal band with a female singer. It's the same exact thing, but apparently that's more acceptable.

00:36:00.100 --> 00:36:29.080
I'm joking. No, Markisan you're actually right. A band like within temptation, like their first two releases were kind of that beauty and beast thing with harsh vocals. And then this angelic singing, and they dropped the harsh vocals, and they just blew up in Europe. You know, Nightwish was another one. I'll bet you if Taja went back to Nightwish, which I could care less, because I think the singer they have now, I'm not into Nightwish, but I think floor Jansen is a better singer personally. But say she went back,

00:36:29.180 --> 00:36:58.800
They probably would gain a lot of steam because they would be bringing back the old band. Because Nightwish got pretty big there for a while. I got one that nobody mentioned that I'm surprised nobody mentioned them. And they're huge. And probably can't occupy Metallica's space, but Gojira is fucking big. John did mention it. He said Gojira. You know what, there was one you said and I was like, what the fuck did you just say? He said Mastodon and Gojira. Mastodon and Gojira. Mastodon and Gojira, okay.

00:36:59.200 --> 00:37:05.460
Yeah, I could see, I think they are phenomenal. Just to be clear, we didn't mention any albums.

00:37:08.580 --> 00:37:11.460
Like, what do you mean, like Leviathan? Damn it!

00:37:16.339 --> 00:37:19.620
It is interesting, though, how we always pair those two bands together.

00:37:21.700 --> 00:37:26.320
The one thing I would say is I think there's something to the idea of, you know,

00:37:26.360 --> 00:37:55.760
The Bigger, the bigger the band is, the less we're going to like them. Inverse proportion. Aside from like a priest, like a maiden, I feel like that time has passed. The other thing that I worry about is people trying to keep the bands going past their prime. I worry that, you know, I feel like we haven't seen that with any of the bands that we truly love. And I hope we don't. But, you know, to see like, oh, here's Judas Priest with only one original member or something like that, you know.

00:37:56.360 --> 00:38:26.340
just to keep things alive. I mean, I wouldn't put it past people because, you know, the people in charge have the money. Possibly. But, yeah. Well, there's a few out there that I think need to call it a day. You know, I think, I mean, at least start thinking about it, in all honesty. I like Zenjutsu. I like the record a lot, but Bruce's voice is coming down a little bit, and I don't know, it's just a matter of time. I mean, I think

00:38:26.360 --> 00:38:56.280
They should really wrap it up in like five years in my mind. If they want their legacy to feel spotless, and they don't have to. We mean, fuck it. Do whatever you want. Kiss should have been done years ago. Well, they're on their farewell tour for at least 12 years now. Dude, I've been to two farewell tours that are like 50 or 20 years old now. But I mean, I mentioned them just because they're from that era. By the way, man, I'll tell you something. The last tour, and it seems to go tour to tour,

00:38:56.380 --> 00:39:26.340
Rob didn't sound that good on some stuff, but man, he's singing the shit out of it. Genocide and Screaming for Vengeance and stuff, these videos I watched. He's right back on track again now. Sometimes he'll speak the lyrics a little bit and you can tell, wow, he's not having a great night. But Screaming for Vengeance is the way up the stratosphere. He sings that song great. Did anyone besides Jay and myself see any of the footage from that Connecticut show? Uh-uh. Fuck, they were so good. Looch went to that show because I saw

00:39:56.360 --> 00:40:26.300
Literally, it was like two shows later. And I think Glenn came out and played. I was like, God, damn it. But you know, Rob was struggling that show. I mean, he sounded good, but he had some trouble with the highs. And you remember him just practically passed out over that bike because he was trying so hard. The bike's pretty heavy, too. Then I saw them the next time they played at Anthem, and they sounded great. So yeah, it's tough.

00:40:26.360 --> 00:40:56.120
you're 70-something years old. I know. Yeah. Well, go watch some of this footage we were talking about. But also, I'm telling you, this is like the best sales they've had in a while. It's got Genocide, Stealer. Well, they did that in the last tour. They've been doing that a little bit lately, yeah. Yeah. Screaming for Vengeance. Brought Judas Rising back, which I love that fucking song. Screaming for Vengeance, that's to me probably the highlight, even over Genocide, believe it or not. Yeah, because I want to see them actually pull it off. And I want to see them play that and not follow it up with, you got another,

00:40:56.380 --> 00:40:59.600
coming. Just saying.

00:41:01.800 --> 00:41:04.500
But yeah, he just, well, he sounds good right now.

00:41:04.720 --> 00:41:07.500
And unfortunately, this tour doesn't appear to get any close to me.

00:41:07.760 --> 00:41:08.080
That's a bummer.

00:41:09.620 --> 00:41:12.120
What about Merciful Fate?

00:41:13.500 --> 00:41:13.740
Yeah.

00:41:14.460 --> 00:41:15.480
Well, I'm telling you, man.

00:41:16.140 --> 00:41:17.660
So I'll take this for a second.

00:41:18.710 --> 00:41:19.800
But two things.

00:41:19.910 --> 00:41:23.240
One, I remember reading an interview with Brian Slagle.

00:41:23.880 --> 00:41:53.860
And I don't know how merciful fake came into it other than the fact that he you know puts their records off but he was like I keep telling King trust me dude do a tour and he's like nobody cares and um and then um they did I think they're bigger here than they and then they are in Europe first off and um they did all those European dates but they played like in the daytime and stuff which was weird and then when me and Matt saw them they closed and I really felt and everyone went nuts and sang every song and it was huge and it was full of people

00:41:54.140 --> 00:42:22.440
And he said at the end of the show, thanks, man. This was the best of all of the festivals. And I'm sure that was true because I've seen the footage and it was the best. And now they're filling these big, big places here in the American tour. That's what I mean. I feel like obviously they're an older band, but they seem to be getting bigger now that they're back. It's like a whole new lease of life on them. Right. By the way, honestly, though, he can fill those holes by himself, though, too. You know, like I saw him on the Abigail and tour. I mean, you know.

00:42:23.640 --> 00:42:53.600
The Anniversary and all that stuff. He played the Warfield both times. It was fucking packed. And Judas Priest plays the Warfield. I just thought of a band that's huge that doesn't play metal anymore. But they're massive. And that's TSO. They're gigantic. Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Which is actually basically sabotage. Yeah. You know. But. They play arenas. They play. They've got now two bands playing in two different

00:42:53.620 --> 00:43:23.600
parts of the country. They always sell out. Kiss is like, how do we do this? Yeah. Funny story. I probably brought this up last time, but I didn't realize that Fate's Warning was asked before Sabotage about doing something like that, and they turned it down. Wow. I wouldn't want to do it either, but that's a multi-million dollar fucking red shirt. That's how Paul O'Neill, that's his name, right? The guy who got hooked up with Sabotage, and then eventually came up with TSO. That's how

00:43:23.620 --> 00:43:53.520
He got with them. He went to the next band and they were like, yeah, this is interesting. Let's think about this. I guarantee you John Oliver is loaded. Oh, yeah. I mean, everyone's like, oh, get Sabotage back. Why? Yeah. I love Sabotage. I'd love to see him back together. You know, who's remaining? Well, he's made some really good solo records during that era. I don't think anything's caught in a while. But back. He's just a great writer himself. John Oliva.

00:43:54.200 --> 00:44:22.280
Oh yeah. And the name is his name of the band was John Oliva. John Oliva's pain. Pain. Right. Those were good records. I really enjoyed those. And I remember they were coming out around the time of like, uh, below the lights and the John Archer record came out. And like, I was really listening to John Oliva. He, I think put like two out in a row. And they were, those were quality records. I saw you. But you're not wrong, dude. That's really, that's a Christmas niche. Right. I mean, they're, but,

00:44:24.140 --> 00:44:50.280
Yeah, they all do well. Everyone who plays on it, that's their bread and butter for the year. Well, my Christmas album is Chuck Billy's. You know? He has a Christmas album? Actually, I don't think he has a Christmas album. He's on it. He has a song on a Christmas album. I think it was a compilation, actually. But he does Silent Night like you wouldn't fucking believe. Oh, that's awesome, actually. What was it again? Silent Night.

00:44:54.119 --> 00:45:20.800
Now that we brought this up, now I really wish Lane Staley was with us. Can you imagine him doing all his year to all these Christmas songs? It'd be pretty damn funny, actually. He used to get that real low, deep, whiny ear. Yeah, I forget what it was called, but it had Chuck Billy on there. It had Dio doing God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen. Oh, I've heard that. Oh, it's like a whole older. It's been out for a while. Yeah, it's been out for probably 10 years. Probably more so since Dio's dead.

00:45:23.240 --> 00:45:53.200
You know, the one thing I kind of want to add here too, though, is that even though, I mean, I know we're talking about the arenas and all that stuff, there still has managed to be bands who have put together impressive fucking careers that honestly, like only we know about. And I, and, well, not only we, but you know what I mean, people, us and people like us. And I can name, you could all name 20 of them, you know, and, but like I was thinking the other day, forgive me, and it's not just because Matt and I had sex with him, but

00:45:55.600 --> 00:46:22.560
This fucking guy's been cranking out quality shit for years. And then you look over at Enslaved, and how many fucking good records does Enslaved have? Probably not making a shit ton of money, you know, but what a nice career they've put together. Definitely Elder Statesman. Yeah, and I would call them a legacy band in that way. They're just not a legacy band that Ken Kardashian knows about. Fair enough, but there are those legacy bands that I think, you know,

00:46:22.600 --> 00:46:52.560
They were able to do it and nothing else. And have given us a big long row of good records. And I'm not even sure we're going to see that many of those anymore. That worries me. I don't know. I think there's going to be a lot of metal bands that are going to last quite a long time and build up a good body of work. Even some of these newer bands, I think they're going to be around a long time. And so they'll have a legacy within the metal circles. They just won't elevate to like a status of a Metallica. You know, that's just, it's just random.

00:46:52.600 --> 00:47:22.400
It's just not going to happen anymore. And you've got to cross over somehow to do that. Yeah. No, that's true. And I know that's like the whole crux of this conversation. But it is interesting. And I guess if nothing else, we're not for want of good music. I mean, it's there and you can find it and do it. It would be nice if some of those bands had better financial support to really go to an island like Jethro Tulley used to do and rent a whole fucking chateau.

00:47:22.620 --> 00:47:26.700
I mean if they get on nuclear blast they can

00:47:27.240 --> 00:47:29.380
so this kind of begs the question

00:47:30.800 --> 00:47:36.120
what will happen to metal after the current legacy bands are gone will it

00:47:37.460 --> 00:47:39.920
just be an underground thing because

00:47:41.020 --> 00:47:44.960
nobody has the sack to pull it off

00:47:45.500 --> 00:47:49.180
at that level and it'll forevermore be

00:47:49.180 --> 00:48:19.140
just a niche thing that we're people listening to. I think there will be somebody and probably some of the people we've mentioned. So it will go on and on, meaning it'll still make it into the arenas. But probably what's just as likely is there'll be things like Clash of the Titans, you know what I mean, or Clash of the Titans. Like there'll be a bunch of mid-level bands that have to get together to do an arena. And so it'll still occupy, you know, the Oakland arena where the Warriors played, but it'll still be under the arena.

00:48:19.280 --> 00:48:20.000
at the same time.

00:48:20.900 --> 00:48:21.380
But who knows?

00:48:21.480 --> 00:48:21.720
Who knows?

00:48:21.900 --> 00:48:22.280
I don't know.

00:48:22.480 --> 00:48:22.780
I mean.

00:48:23.520 --> 00:48:23.960
Hard to say.

00:48:25.060 --> 00:48:25.280
I mean,

00:48:25.700 --> 00:48:25.920
I mean,

00:48:26.140 --> 00:48:27.980
metal's been going for 50 odd years now.

00:48:29.660 --> 00:48:29.880
So,

00:48:30.280 --> 00:48:30.500
you know,

00:48:30.840 --> 00:48:31.740
let's see 50 more.

00:48:32.180 --> 00:48:32.240
Yeah.

00:48:32.420 --> 00:48:34.420
And there's bands that have the potential that,

00:48:34.620 --> 00:48:36.220
that could do like chemists as a band,

00:48:36.300 --> 00:48:38.980
I think could possibly do that.

00:48:39.120 --> 00:48:39.220
True.

00:48:39.600 --> 00:48:40.320
If I'm not mistaken,

00:48:40.440 --> 00:48:41.300
on tour with tribute.

00:48:42.040 --> 00:48:42.440
Yeah.

00:48:42.720 --> 00:48:43.180
And I mean,

00:48:43.300 --> 00:48:43.380
they're,

00:48:43.580 --> 00:48:46.080
they're moving up because they are on nuclear blast.

00:48:46.440 --> 00:48:47.620
They're going to bigger shows.

00:48:47.740 --> 00:49:17.700
they're playing with bands who have a higher profile than them. They have sung vocals, you know, the mix with growls. So they could. It's possible that they could get to that level. I think they're going to be a band a long time. They've definitely outgrown this podcast. Well, they were on last year. I know, I'm just teasing. But the other thing that worries me, too, and I'm not saying this is specific to them, but one does think of band. And that is that, you know, which of the

00:49:17.740 --> 00:49:47.120
What bands are we going to lose? Because they just get so tired of having to do it in a van and, you know, and having to work a full job to keep it going. And there are those bands that we're going to lose like that. We're going to be like, I can't do this, man. It's too hard. You mean like The Sword? I think they were doing okay. Yeah. Yeah. That dude was at, he's like, he does a podcast or something. Yeah, those make a lot of money. That was a pretty big crowd. Thanks, George.

00:49:47.740 --> 00:50:17.480
I mean, he probably does. And I think they did okay. And he was at, um, cycle Las Vegas as a host or he was doing live podcasts there. Okay. That's what I thought. He was one of the dudes we met. Yeah. Anyway, who knows? But I also say this filled up a casino for three days. You know what I mean? And those, those bands were high profile in the sense that we're talking and it fills up vodka and it fills up, you know, how much, how much,

00:50:17.720 --> 00:50:47.380
How much money in business for surrounding businesses and hotels and t-shirt sales and everything else, you know, that's all. Well, that's all be one, but also like MDF. There's so many there. Are we talking about millions of dollars? It's got to be a big influx for Baltimore's economy. Yeah. For the hotels that bother to, you know, stay open and actually keep people's rooms. I think that's the thing that's going to maybe we'll get more of them as festivals.

00:50:47.740 --> 00:51:17.700
because maybe it's not one band that's just going to have that status but if you do a festival lots of bands as we know people come but maybe there'll be more of those because people are craving metal and they don't have iron maidens and speaking of there's this one in texas i've just seen that maybe it's been around for i don't know but trypticon is the headliner which one is it like terror fest it's called like hell in houston or something like that and it's pretty cool dude it's trypticon doing a celtic celtic for us that possessed

00:51:17.740 --> 00:51:47.700
It's like the second hand liner. And then it's like all these bands like Satan and like old school new wave of British hand metal bands and stuff. I'm going to keep an eye on this thing. It showed up in my Facebook feed. I'll send you guys a link. Yeah, because that's the thing in metal that seems to do really well is those festivals. That's a good point. There's a ton of them now. Yeah, they definitely are growing in the number of festivals in America. I've got this here and I just want to share it with you. It's called Hell's Heroes 4. So it's been around for a while. Okay, so

00:51:47.740 --> 00:52:17.700
Last Four was Candlemas, Dark Angels, blah, blah, blah. So this one, what the fuck? This is the wrong one because I just saw an ad for the new one. Anyway, it's got a lot of cool stuff and I'd like to see a lot more of this happening here now in America. We need to get our festivals going. Yeah. Yeah, I think that's, now I'm thinking about it, I'm positive that's how it's going to go. I think you've got to get a lot of

00:52:17.780 --> 00:52:44.720
different bands together. And I feel like metal has more of a profile because of the festivals that keep coming up. And like we're saying, we keep seeing more of them. And I wish there was more in Chicago. We have small ones, but we don't have like a big one like, you know, MDF or something like that. We have a little one like the Doom Fest. We have lots of little ones. Yeah. But I want a big one, you know. Well, unfortunately, Will's not here.

00:52:47.960 --> 00:53:16.820
Yeah. So, um, speaking of all the world's problems, nice job, everybody. Yeah. Uh, I wanted you talking about like Satan and some of the, uh, old, uh, you know, uh, British new wave of head metal bands reminded me of, of a conversation today. Barb and I were in the car and, uh, somehow I managed to have a boneyard on and, uh, Metallica's am I evil came on and, uh, she was like, am I evil? You know, like,

00:53:17.819 --> 00:53:44.920
And I was like, yes, I fucking am. And then the song's playing and then he gets to that part. Yes, I fucking am. And she's like, huh. She's like, the lyrics on this song are really dumb. And I said, well, Metallica technically didn't write these. This was Diamond Head. And, you know, Diamond Head has a career because of Metallica. And yeah, anything on the first album that's Metallica, it's cool. But yeah, the lyrics are kind of shit until Cliff came along and kicked him in the ass.

00:53:45.680 --> 00:54:15.200
Yeah, I listened to Garage Days the other day, just by accident. I put it on my swim pod. And it was funny to hear those songs again. I heard the Garage Days one, the original one. Barb, you should check out some Whitesnake lyrics. Oh no, she gets those plenty. We're in the car and I'll be like, I'm sure about David Coverdale. He does say this more often than not, which is he doesn't know where he's going, but he sure knows where he's at.

00:54:15.680 --> 00:54:45.520
I can't tell how many times I've gotten the look after going, slide it in. Well, I'm sure the bands she listens to or musicians she listens to probably don't have great lyrics. There's not, if you think about it, how many bands have amazing lyrics? Yeah. And nobody else. Well, she was like, she was like, you could write better lyrics than this. I could write better lyrics than this. I was like, yeah, I know. I mean, it's, you know,

00:55:12.640 --> 00:55:14.020
It's my understanding.

00:55:14.260 --> 00:55:44.180
I know someone that was in that. Is that true? Your boy? Yeah. Apparently Gene Kirkland was in it for a minute. Nice. Talk about it a little bit. No, it's just a guy I told you he's married to my friend. He's a photographer. I didn't know that name, but maybe it's just because you've said it, but I see like a well-known photographer. He's got a lot of stuff. His biggest names that he worked with were Steven Tyler and Slash.

00:56:14.260 --> 00:56:15.200
number of times on here. He,

00:56:15.950 --> 00:56:16.060
he,

00:56:16.100 --> 00:56:17.880
Dio was the first guy who actually befriended him.

00:56:17.940 --> 00:56:20.280
Who was nice to him and they became friends.

00:56:20.940 --> 00:56:21.480
Not a surprise.

00:56:22.100 --> 00:56:22.240
Yeah.

00:56:22.760 --> 00:56:24.320
You do hear that so much about him.

00:56:25.110 --> 00:56:25.340
You know,

00:56:25.640 --> 00:56:28.200
I have to say this because this kind of swings back around to the

00:56:28.310 --> 00:56:28.860
legacy thing.

00:56:29.900 --> 00:56:32.800
And I'm not saying there's not some amazing musicians out there.

00:56:33.480 --> 00:56:33.780
There are,

00:56:33.820 --> 00:56:34.520
and there always will be,

00:56:34.580 --> 00:56:35.120
and there'll always be,

00:56:35.440 --> 00:56:37.460
but I don't know that we're ever going to get a class of singers.

00:56:37.920 --> 00:56:38.400
Like we got,

00:56:39.360 --> 00:56:39.780
like I'm serious,

00:56:39.950 --> 00:56:40.040
dude.

00:56:40.160 --> 00:56:40.400
Like there,

00:56:40.680 --> 00:56:42.000
nobody has come along that's,

00:56:42.050 --> 00:56:43.320
that has been as good as Dio.

00:56:44.680 --> 00:57:12.820
Helford Dickinson. They're some good singers. I'm not saying they're not really good, competent, and even maybe technically better singers in a lot of areas. But I don't know that there's not... It's hard to find people put in a group. That much character. That's a great way to put it, and I think that's a big part. It's one of the reasons I like Andy Koontz from Bandit Flaws a lot. But even then, I don't think he sits in that high, you know, fucking company. No, and he knows who he is.

00:57:13.400 --> 00:57:43.200
That's really good. Yeah, he is. He is. But still not. Yeah. I mean, Mike from Opeth. His clean vocals are good. But I think there's no emphasis on clean vocals anymore. That's true. That's part of it. I left out, by the way, I left out Ian Gillen and Robert Plant. Has anyone heard him on any of his stuff that he does with Alison Krauss? It's all about the speed.

00:57:43.380 --> 00:57:44.280
of going to California.

00:57:44.860 --> 00:57:45.180
Okay.

00:57:45.360 --> 00:57:47.120
So he's not really stretching himself out.

00:57:47.140 --> 00:57:47.220
No,

00:57:47.350 --> 00:57:48.080
not by a long shot.

00:57:48.460 --> 00:57:48.540
No,

00:57:49.160 --> 00:57:49.740
I don't even know.

00:57:49.740 --> 00:57:50.520
I've only heard some of it,

00:57:50.620 --> 00:57:50.840
but no,

00:57:50.920 --> 00:57:53.180
he sticks somewhere around what you might call it.

00:57:53.180 --> 00:57:53.660
A mid range.

00:57:53.960 --> 00:57:54.860
Barrow tone part of his.

00:57:55.000 --> 00:57:55.160
Yeah.

00:57:55.900 --> 00:57:56.000
Huh.

00:57:57.120 --> 00:57:57.360
I mean,

00:57:57.460 --> 00:57:59.300
there's some really good singers in metal,

00:57:59.480 --> 00:57:59.980
but you know,

00:58:00.030 --> 00:58:00.320
they just,

00:58:00.960 --> 00:58:02.180
they're never going to reach that status.

00:58:02.500 --> 00:58:02.640
Like I,

00:58:02.880 --> 00:58:03.060
like,

00:58:03.060 --> 00:58:03.980
like Kardashev album,

00:58:04.180 --> 00:58:04.880
the singer on that,

00:58:04.930 --> 00:58:06.140
that guy's amazing.

00:58:07.520 --> 00:58:07.580
Oh,

00:58:07.680 --> 00:58:09.140
I'm glad you grabbed something.

00:58:09.300 --> 00:58:10.080
So not random,

00:58:10.180 --> 00:58:39.900
because that's clearly something like, but like, like another one was, um, how the fuck is an LA record? This is a goat, uh, King goat. That fucking guy. Yeah. Yeah. They don't post much anymore. Yeah. You know, you know, who else is a singer that fucking rips is Devin Townsend. He's gotten so much better than when he first started. I agree. Yeah. You may not, people, I, George, I talk about this sometimes.

00:58:40.200 --> 00:59:08.080
He's going to be a beast over Hammersmith.

00:59:10.180 --> 00:59:40.160
And I cannot say enough how good Bruce sounds singing the Killers stuff. The Paul DeAnno stuff especially. But I mean Killers like the song Killers, Murderers in the Rumor. I'll have to go look at it and see what else is on there. Oh, Another Life is on there. It's amazing. And his voice is not the voice you know on Powerslave. Not even close. Really, if you haven't heard it, I know we go on and on about it, but

00:59:40.180 --> 01:00:10.160
You have to listen just to hear them play run to the hills to hear him talking about the song before they play it literally they introduce it and nobody claps because nobody knows no one knows what it is and it's really funny to hear that yeah didn't you put it in the box I know I've listened yeah it might have been I think so I ordered it on vinyl though yeah I ordered it you guys talk about it so much I mean I've listened to it but I really want to play it on vinyl and really you can do it all the videos are out there it's funny they

01:00:10.180 --> 01:00:40.140
They look like those. Jay and George, do you remember the old MTV live, quote unquote, I'm saying live videos, which was just them, like at soundcheck, they would record a video and they'd have like the crew up front, like going woo with their hands up. They catch them on the camera and that's all it was. They would play it like it was a live show and they were doing a soundcheck and then they pass off as a live video. Beast over Hammersmith looks like that sometimes because they never really show the crowd, but it's actually

01:00:40.180 --> 01:01:09.260
the show. And they kill the crowd sound in there. It just sounds so, it's raw for them. It's raw. It sounds so good. It's poorly filmed, and that's why they didn't put it out. And you can't actually find it complete. Somebody stitched it together. And I want to say it's more than what's on the early years DVD. But, in fact, quite a bit more. But they stitched together in time, and then there's a couple where they just have stills.

01:01:09.560 --> 01:01:38.160
Well, just one or two or three songs, maybe four songs. I know we are always talking about that record. I'm telling you, man. Just go listen to The Prisoner off of that. That alone will sell the whole thing. Can't wait to get it on vinyl. Yeah, I should probably get that too, even though I don't really get stuff. Yeah, but that, I mean, come on. No, I've got all the Maiden. That's the whole grail, dude. I've got like, when they reissued all the Maiden 45s.

01:01:39.540 --> 01:02:08.940
I got all of them. Yeah. So I've got like a stack of, you know, cause you get all the B sides and the cool shit on there and just the, just the artwork alone is worth it. You know? And it's not even the cover artwork, George. It's the back artwork. You know what? With the old 45s, they put just limited amounts of information on the back, but they have a whole nother set of artwork on the backside. Yeah. It's just, yeah. Really cool stuff. Yeah. So as a completist, I should probably get that. Yes.

01:02:09.560 --> 01:02:39.160
I have a weird obsession with not a weird obsession, but I was convinced the Hammersmith audience center of the universe for a long time. It was in 1980 to 1982. Well, and there's two other very fine live records. Three of my favorite live records of all time are. Motorhead. Yeah. The Motorhead. Um, the beast over Hammersmith. I wonder if you can guess the other one. Huh? Is it Saxon? Yeah. Eos Landed was recorded. Yeah. Eos Landed. Yeah. I love that fucking record, dude.

01:02:39.560 --> 01:03:06.960
I wish I lived in London and was 17 or 1980, whatever those were. That would have been awesome. You know, I feel like Rush recorded a live album there too. Huh. There's also the Sabbath thing with Theo. That was in Henry Smith. Is that live in last? Is that 83, 84? Yeah, it was them. They released it. You got it, John. God damn it.

01:03:11.359 --> 01:03:12.340
I think it was.

01:03:12.930 --> 01:03:13.020
Um,

01:03:13.020 --> 01:03:13.960
re-release that just came out.

01:03:14.360 --> 01:03:14.620
Right.

01:03:14.900 --> 01:03:15.760
And if you have it,

01:03:15.820 --> 01:03:16.060
it's that,

01:03:16.180 --> 01:03:17.140
that's the Hammersmith studio.

01:03:17.800 --> 01:03:18.240
All right.

01:03:18.440 --> 01:03:18.640
So yeah,

01:03:18.760 --> 01:03:21.920
rush also recorded live at the Hammersmith Odeon February 20th,

01:03:22.040 --> 01:03:22.360
1978.

01:03:23.460 --> 01:03:25.600
It's like one of my favorite rush live albums.

01:03:26.440 --> 01:03:28.340
It's not as good as the new one that just came out,

01:03:28.400 --> 01:03:31.000
which is like the greatest album ever released in mankind.

01:03:31.430 --> 01:03:31.760
Do you guys,

01:03:32.290 --> 01:03:35.820
do you guys have those deal live vinyls or at least the live albums that I

01:03:35.960 --> 01:03:37.540
sent you when I was at rock of ages?

01:03:37.700 --> 01:04:07.100
I sent those pictures of the 3D cover Dio stuff because I was like, oh my god, I should really get this because I don't have this. But it's like $45 and it's just for one. And there was like two of them. I'm like $90 for two Dio live albums that I know nothing about. Yeah, I have all those. But they have the... Yeah, I'm just going to get the downloads. But they have the shiny... Remember back in the 70s, 80s, they had things where if you moved it, it was like 3D? Yeah, the hologram like covers. Yeah, yeah. That's what they were. I was like, oh!

01:04:08.300 --> 01:04:37.040
All his albums are like that. They re-released them and you can get all the albums that way. That's how I have most of them. Okay. I would be careful buying those because Wendy's going to release all the hologram live albums. So you'll turn it and his little hologram will come up and you could watch him singing while you're listening to the album. Yeah. Seriously? No. No. Well, because you know. I'm just slinging shit around.

01:04:37.680 --> 01:05:07.480
Well, who was it? It was Jack White that had, he put out an album that when you played it, it like did shit because of stuff. I have a 2112. Maybe it was Rush. Okay. It's just the pentagram on the cover, but it's cool and it works. You can film it too. I can couch it. See, they should have did the naked dude off the album. That would have been funny. Just have him going around like this around the whole time. When I was at Rock of Ages, they had a really cool 2112 shirt, but it was like a small.

01:05:08.720 --> 01:05:09.660
I was like damn it

01:05:09.700 --> 01:05:11.600
now those deal the deal ones you were

01:05:11.720 --> 01:05:13.660
shown us were fairly recent releases

01:05:13.900 --> 01:05:15.640
George that's the Donington stuff yeah it

01:05:15.740 --> 01:05:16.960
was it was like in the new releases

01:05:17.240 --> 01:05:18.920
section and they also last year they

01:05:19.020 --> 01:05:22.020
released was a holy diver live and

01:05:22.900 --> 01:05:24.180
there were later era things that were

01:05:24.260 --> 01:05:25.920
like I want to say once the 90s yeah

01:05:26.340 --> 01:05:27.660
yeah I have some of the earlier ones

01:05:28.160 --> 01:05:29.940
that they did he has something from

01:05:30.020 --> 01:05:32.460
Donington yeah dude and that's like a

01:05:32.580 --> 01:05:35.900
good year too that's one say who is he

01:05:35.900 --> 01:06:04.640
Is it either Last in Line? No, it might be. I don't know. I'll look it up. It's like right during D.O. State. And I think Vivian Campbell was still with it. Aren't those usually like... This says Donnington 83. So that would have been Last in Line. Not Last in Line, but Holy Dine. No, it would have been the first album. That's what I meant. Every Donnington show I see, whether it be like Maine or ACDC, like the smallest crowd is like 75,000.

01:06:05.920 --> 01:06:33.240
I think the one Maiden show was like 125,000 people, wasn't it? Supposedly the one where Adrian Smith came out, they released that live album, live at Donington. He came out for the encore. Second one. Sorry to interrupt. The second Donington is 87, so that would have been Sacred Heart. Uh-huh. Yeah. That might even be later than that. That might be Dream Evil. Oh, yeah, maybe.

01:06:37.960 --> 01:07:05.100
I haven't heard the shows yet, but I'm definitely going to get them one way or another. Nice. And that would be when he sounded amazing. So just to throw back to what we were talking about, song lyrics and stuff, you said you're going to get them one way or another, and I'm like, going to get you one way or another. Fucking Blondie, you know. It just happens. Yeah. Anyway.

01:07:05.920 --> 01:07:35.820
We got more out of that brown table than we thought. We did. Well, you know, put us in front of a microphone and shit's going to happen. All right. Well, do we have to go get beer? Yeah. Well, we have to do another beer check. Yeah. Same for me. I got another beer. See, I was smart. I did mine ahead of time. I might need a snack too. Well, do you want to do a check or do you want to do a quick break and then... I don't have a beer, so I can't do a check. All right. Let's do it. You're listening to the Mental Heads podcast. And if you don't listen, then the hell with you.

01:07:35.900 --> 01:08:05.820
So, dude, it's top of the ninth, and the Astros are ahead by five. And by the way, just so you not fucking hate the Astros, but I understand your hate for the Yankees. I don't think it's going to be Astros-Phillies, dude. I don't think the Padres can beat the Phillies. And I think if anybody can beat the Astros, it's the Phillies. So, we'll make it a World Series this year. Yeah, I don't like the Astros. I liked them until I found out they were cheaters. I hated them before that, to be fair. I rooted for them because I, you know. But, yeah, not a fan, but,

01:08:05.900 --> 01:08:35.160
If they're going to beat the Yankees, I'll root for them to beat the Yankees, and then whoever wins the National League, I don't care. I mean, I'm pro Phillies, but it'll be the Phillies. They're scoring 100 runs already in that Phillies-Padres game. It's already 4-3 in the bottom of the first. Holy shit. I'm rooting for Houston for one reason and one reason only, and that is I want the Yankees to flame out really hard so that judge says,

01:08:35.900 --> 01:09:05.880
We'll take that $900 million from the Giants, and he'll come back home to the Bay Area where he belongs. Is that a true rumor? I didn't know if that's true. Yes, it's a legitimate rumor that whether they get him or not, who knows. But he's from the Bay Area, a team he grew up following with the Giants. He's talked about it before, and I'm like, hey, brother, we got tons of money because we're not paying anyone shit right now. That's the reason why we only won 81 games. Come on, my friend. Yeah, no, that's...

01:09:07.680 --> 01:09:35.880
That's the only thing I like about the Yankees is Aaron Judge. I think he's a decent dude. But, you know, fuck the Yankees. You know, the Yankees have won one World Series. One since 2001. Or since 2000. Can you believe that? One. I can believe it, but they've won 27 total. No, that's the point I'm making. This is one of the longest stretches they've gone where they've only

01:09:35.920 --> 01:10:04.640
1-1. That team in the late 90s to 2000, you cannot even come. No one could ever argue that that's not one of the greatest teams, at least in modern baseball. Was that like Jeter, A-Rod bullshit? No, A-Rod wasn't there yet, was he? That's good, because fuck him. He was 2009 when they won, wasn't he, Jay? I'll look up the year, but I don't think him and Jeter crossed.

01:10:05.920 --> 01:10:34.600
He was part of that team that played the Phillies twice. Remember the Phillies played them? Or the Phillies won one in the Phillies played them next year. I think I lost if I'm not mistaken. I can't remember, but I'm pretty sure. No, that was the Mariano Rivera team with Jeter. That's the one. I don't know if anyone remembers. That's the one where Jeter apparently they say he made that great play against Oakland when he leaped over the tag at home plate. He was fucking out. He got tagged on that play. They didn't call it. They didn't reverse the call on that.

01:10:35.700 --> 01:11:04.460
He pissed me off. He was out. I'm not an A's fan, but I'll take the A's any day of the week. Plus, I would root for hometown at that point. It was not going to be the Giants. Did you see that checked swing debacle the other day? Was it yesterday? I think it was the Padres. Philly's Padres game. They were out of calls or something.

01:11:06.620 --> 01:11:35.600
It was like, it was ninth inning. It was the first out. They had like, yeah, yeah. Yeah. And we looked at that and I was like, I don't know, man. That was like borderline. It's like, he may have crossed the plate. I don't know. It was pretty close, but I probably would have erred on the side of calling it a check. I don't know. I'm still, when you bring up check swings, I'm still stewing from the Dodgers beating the Giants last year's playoffs on a check swing strikeout call. That wasn't, he didn't even get close.

01:11:35.700 --> 01:12:05.660
the plate. I'm still stewing over that a year later. Shit, it's 4-3 Padres. What? I thought it was 4-3 Phillies. No. Padres. Padres are a stacked team. I just don't know they have the overall full pitching staff to compete. Yeah, I mean, I like them because they got Juan Soto. I don't like them because they have Manny Machado, but... He's matured now, finally. Yeah, whatever. He really has. I think he has, dude. I don't know, dude. Well, either way, it's not enough to make me not like

01:12:05.680 --> 01:12:35.400
the Padres. If it was Padres, Astros, I'd be like Padres all the way. I might be cutting them some slack because they have our manager. Bob Melvin is there. I like Bob Melvin a lot. That would be like the worst thing for Major League Baseball, and I would applaud it because I would love to see that because that's what's great about baseball is you can get these towns that are not superstar ratings towns for television, and their fans deserve it. Like Seattle versus Tampa Bay, no one will watch.

01:12:35.440 --> 01:13:04.080
I really wanted to see the Mariners. But I would love to see that though. Yeah. Because they deserve those teams deserve a chance to minus the Seahawks. No. I draw the line somewhere. Jesus dude the Philly fans are fucking loud man. Yeah. And I'm rooting for them despite Bryce Harper. So. I don't mind Bryce Harper but I hear you.

01:13:05.520 --> 01:13:35.060
Well, it's not that he's a bad guy. I don't think he's a bad guy. I think he's just a douche because he left us. Then he strung the Giants along. Yeah, but I thought, but we did get him. It's like the year after he left, we won the World Series. So fuck you. Yeah. And that's it. One last thing before we get going again, George, of all those players, that whole core just disintegrated. Yeah. Because Strasburg, at some point, he's getting close to retirement.

01:13:35.160 --> 01:14:05.060
which is hard to believe he's been around that long. But he's had such all the arm problems. I didn't even know he was still with us. I know. He's been hurt for so long. Rendon hasn't done squat since he went to the Angels. He hasn't compared to what he did for the Nationals. Mr. Washington, Mr. National retired. Yeah. And that dude is a class act. Well, 100% agree. I'm not a match fan, but he is 100% class, that guy. Before we switch to, and we do need to switch, so we don't keep forward to these.

01:14:06.420 --> 01:14:34.940
Oh, this is all getting cut out. We're not making anyone listen to this. Will did chime in on it, and I want to resell the Nolan Ryan back to you. He's a fucking beast, dude. Yeah. I loved him growing up. Please tell me they showed the Will Clark clip with him. Has anyone seen the Will Clark clip with Nolan Ryan? I don't know. Remind me what happens. So Will Clark makes his first ever appearance for the Giants,

01:14:34.960 --> 01:15:04.680
in the major leagues. And it's against Houston and Houston. I believe I could be wrong. It was a one, one pitch. He came, I guess, with something. And Clark just fucking jacked him as a rookie. First at bat in the major leagues. And he rounds first base. And I guess he had family in the audience because he's from Louisiana. And if anyone remembers Will Clark, the dude was just intensity times a thousand. And he like slapped his hands real hard. He pointed up at the crowd, made this like type face. His next at bat.

01:15:04.980 --> 01:15:34.900
He got fucking drilled. And I heard him talking about it. He's like, yeah, then I got up to the exit bat. I was like, I'm standing. I'm thinking I'm getting drilled. He was laughing. He was like, yeah, I, he said, Nolan thought he thought he was going to get one by me. I took him and he drilled me the next time up. You don't want to get hit by Nolan Ryan, man. See, he was, he was one of the last guys who would do stuff like that. So supposedly he was throwing, as they say, that if they had,

01:15:44.739 --> 01:15:46.680
The only guy probably

01:15:47.420 --> 01:15:51.840
closest to him Chapman at one point I think threw out a 103 or something

01:15:52.970 --> 01:15:54.820
didn't he when he was with the Reds

01:15:55.780 --> 01:15:56.180
anyway

01:15:58.260 --> 01:16:00.780
baseball wow what are we talking about baseball

01:16:01.160 --> 01:16:01.860
that's crazy

01:16:03.679 --> 01:16:31.560
All right, let's move on to the news, shall we? So the first news item is that Rivers of Nile has parted ways with their vocalist. Does anybody know anything about why this happened? I don't.

01:16:31.860 --> 01:16:38.960
I believe anybody does but what the fuck? So I just saw them they toured with the

01:16:39.120 --> 01:16:43.080
contortionists I I'm a big fan of the contortionists and I like Rivers and El obviously too

01:16:44.260 --> 01:17:01.840
but it was this kind of cool tour where both bands were playing full-length albums the contortionists played two full-length albums and Rivers and El played all the work so like this could be fucking awesome for me I I was loving it and then I heard somewhere that guys were missing from both bands during the tour so once

01:17:01.860 --> 01:17:06.780
was not with the contortionist and the lead singer wasn't with

01:17:07.760 --> 01:17:10.700
rivers and nile so the rest of the band picked up the slack and sang

01:17:11.870 --> 01:17:16.660
and so i was at the show and i was thinking wow this is kind of strange because i i've always heard he

01:17:16.830 --> 01:17:22.580
has had a great stage presence so i thought something was up because i thought he would be back at some

01:17:22.660 --> 01:17:29.020
point but he didn't come back apparently they were doing all instrumental versions of the work for a while

01:17:29.040 --> 01:17:58.940
And then they start working in the vocals, I think, is what I heard. So apparently he has serious hearing issues. Yeah. Yeah. And it's been going on for a while. Yeah. But I don't know that's the reason why. And the drummer and the bassist have been singing more with them with each successive album. So I don't know if this was a natural transition that he couldn't do it anymore. So they were going to pick it up. I don't know. So it may be an amicable kind of thing.

01:17:59.040 --> 01:18:29.000
as opposed to fuck you guys kind of thing? No, I think maybe there's something that is preventing him from being out there. Okay. So listen to this, and this will tell the tale a little bit because I think it's close to what John is suggesting. But first and foremost, it says we've parted ways with him, which to me seems like a very specific way of saying things. But then they say we ask our friends and friends to allow him the space to handle his affairs with dignity and privacy. So perhaps it was something like that, John, like a physical

01:18:29.480 --> 01:18:58.960
And he just couldn't do it anymore. But it's weird that they wouldn't mention that though. Because they've talked about it before that he's mostly deaf. Oh, is that right? They have talked about it? He actually wears hearing aids, I think, on stage when he was singing, not just in-ear monitors. I think he actually had to wear them. Yeah. If you're mostly deaf, you don't want to be in a metal band. Yeah, maybe. He said he could hear things on the low end of the frequency spectrum, but any high-pitched sounds just go right over. You can't hear them. So is it possible?

01:18:59.560 --> 01:19:28.480
Is it possible the band had to intervene and say, hey, man, it's not fucking worth it? It's not in your best interest to continue. I don't know. It's all speculation on my part saying this. That's what I wonder, too. But it was like, this was never a thing before any other albums. And so I don't know if it's just progressively gotten worse up until this point. But I mean, I met him in person and none of that really came across to me in our interactions or anything. I mean, I'm not a loud talker.

01:19:28.900 --> 01:19:58.340
Was he cool? Everyone I've talked to that's met him said he couldn't be any nicer when they met him. Yeah, he couldn't. Yeah, he was very cool. I'm saying it's just weird, though, because we know people know he has that condition. So for them to announce it, you'd think that they would do it together and be like, you know, he just can't perform because of that. So that's why I feel like maybe it's something else. I have four letters for you. A, C, B, C. I was just going to say, yeah. Well, I'll tell you what. They were like, Brian Johnson can't hear. Bye. Yeah, this was handled a little.

01:19:58.520 --> 01:20:28.400
Softer than the ACDC one. Yeah, now he's back. Yeah, now he's back. Where did you meet him at? Show. They played, gosh, it was them and I can't think of the Zenith Passage and somebody else. It was like a local show, or not a local show, but it was here maybe 2017. It would have been right after, it would have been pre-Owls, wasn't it? Yes. Yeah. I can't think. Monarchy, I think, was their second.

01:20:28.540 --> 01:20:58.480
Yeah, because Owls came out in 2018. Yeah. Yeah, who? Who? Nice. Owls, that's who. It's a strange story, and I hope that if it's because of his hearing that, you know, he's not permanent, it's not worse than it could be. I'm sure he'll probably make a statement at some point. I would say so. Absolutely. So the strange thing is, he's been off the tour, was off the tour for a while, missed a lot of shows, and nothing was said. I mean, I kept looking through both bands, all their social media,

01:20:58.520 --> 01:21:28.140
anything. And it was all from fans commenting deep, you know, drilling down through the posts and stuff to hear. I remember you saying you were going to that show, John. And then after the fact, I mean, I didn't think anything of it. And then you're like, oh, yeah, I saw him without him. I was like, oh, shit. I did not realize it actually went back that far. I mean, it could be that he has that condition and it's affected him mentally. Who knows? Like maybe he's suffering because he can't hear and maybe he's like doing something that hurts the band.

01:21:28.180 --> 01:21:58.160
and they don't want to talk about that part of it. Yeah. Because that's tough to be able to try to be in a metal band and do that without being able to hear really well. Did you see that movie? No, was it good? Yeah, it was pretty good. Sound of Metal. Yeah, it was good. About the drummer that loses his hearing and yeah. I mean, yeah, he's good. It's a rough movie. It doesn't like have a happy ending or anything. No, it's sad. I always remember it because

01:21:58.180 --> 01:22:28.140
NPR covered it and talked about the movie. And in that same episode, they actually talked about By the Horn soundtrack in my book. Yeah. Nice. The greatest thing ever. They're doing a movie about metal and they're doing my stuff. Next, they'll be doing a movie about your comic. Yeah, that'd be cool. That actor is in a series I highly recommend called The Night Of. That was on HBO. Yeah, that was great. That's where I know him. I was so tense, though.

01:22:30.000 --> 01:22:58.160
I just watched um Venom the movie Venom I had never seen the first one the second one well you know I heard a lot of mixed things about those movies I've never been a big fan of that character but I actually really like the movies okay I'm hardy's in it they're kind of quirky weird fun movies yeah and that guy plays the bad guy in it and uh I really enjoyed them I I was kind of put off because people had these mixed reactions or didn't like them and normally

01:22:58.200 --> 01:23:28.160
I don't pay attention to that but because I'm not a huge fan of the character I was like I can wait what's that the second one got savaged in the press but I didn't see either but I'll check but the audience if you look at Rotten Tomatoes the audience scores like in the 80s and I think that's accurate in that case because I actually really thought they were fun movies especially the second one where they lean into the humor more than they do in the first one I have a recommendation for you Marcus and it's something I think you would all like if you haven't seen it it kind of came out on

01:23:28.200 --> 01:23:57.420
the radar, I think during pandemic times. And it's called Love and Monsters. Oh, yeah. Yep. That's really good. I've heard of it. I haven't watched it. It's such a fucking good movie. It's awesome. But it strikes me as not too far off of your comic books, you know, lines and things. It's on my list to watch. I just haven't gotten to it because, as you know, it's like a billion times. It's super entertaining and very funny and charming. Great special. I fucking love it. It's a complete package.

01:23:58.180 --> 01:24:00.000
I just actually watched it for the second time.

01:24:00.520 --> 01:24:01.080
Oh, wow.

01:24:01.760 --> 01:24:01.840
Yeah.

01:24:02.140 --> 01:24:02.560
Put it on your list.

01:24:02.640 --> 01:24:02.720
Nice.

01:24:02.940 --> 01:24:03.120
All right.

01:24:03.360 --> 01:24:03.620
It's on.

01:24:04.020 --> 01:24:04.180
Yeah.

01:24:04.520 --> 01:24:04.980
I'll move it up.

01:24:05.120 --> 01:24:05.940
I'm so far behind.

01:24:06.120 --> 01:24:07.720
I just saw Spider-Man No Way Home.

01:24:08.480 --> 01:24:10.180
So that's where I am in the Marvel Universe.

01:24:11.000 --> 01:24:11.660
Did you like it though?

01:24:12.220 --> 01:24:12.480
Yeah.

01:24:12.600 --> 01:24:15.000
I thought it was freaking great seeing all three Peter Parkers.

01:24:15.280 --> 01:24:15.740
Spoiler alert.

01:24:16.240 --> 01:24:16.860
It was a good movie.

01:24:17.380 --> 01:24:19.340
You know, for a movie that came out 12 years ago.

01:24:19.620 --> 01:24:20.300
Spoiler alert.

01:24:20.380 --> 01:24:21.880
But yeah, I just saw it.

01:24:22.020 --> 01:24:24.540
I mean, I knew that was going to happen because, you know, spoiler alerts.

01:24:25.280 --> 01:24:27.100
But I was just like, that's fucking cool.

01:24:27.420 --> 01:24:57.380
And like bringing back all the characters, you know, Doc Ock and fucking Green Goblin. And then you find out that Tobey Maguire is both their dads. Yeah, I know. I was like, damn, he's old. But yeah, it was pretty cool. Hey, we didn't do beer check. Oh, let's do it. All right. I'm drinking because you inspired me because you had a Belgian mat. I'm drinking a coconut quad core, a Belgian style quad.

01:24:57.440 --> 01:25:25.800
With coconut. What? Text me over. So the Cap and I, like I said, we did the meat and metal and we went around different breweries and went to this place called Low Res Brewery. And they specialize in Belgians. And they had like an herb one with like Thai basil in it. In their quads? They do quads, like triples. No, but they put that stuff in their quads? Yeah. It's really good.

01:25:27.440 --> 01:25:56.820
I know it sounded weird to me too, but the coconut is not prominent in it. It just gives it a little extra flavor in it. It's one of my favorite styles of all beers. And there's enough going on in those things that you don't need to add anymore, but I'm glad you like it. I would tell you, you need to try it though, John, because it has that, like a wind, a hisper. Oh, what am I? I just, I just combined words, a whisper.

01:25:57.420 --> 01:26:27.400
of coconut in it and it's nice it actually kind of see rounds it out for me i wouldn't want the coconut to come in with the hisper and i wouldn't want it coming in and just slightly taking away from the plum or the raisin that's in quads that i enjoy so much it doesn't because you get that raisin and plum in the beginning and that belgian flavor that quad you like and then you get a little a little bit of that history all right it's it's it's

01:26:27.440 --> 01:26:57.400
I love it real good I won't I won't shut the door just yet speaking of you guys come out here to Chicago yeah man like one of my favorite new breweries because I love Belgians and they have my favorite Belgians Belgians are my favorite period not even close nothing comes close but you got to come and go to this place man it's freaking great yeah more people should drink Belgian beer and they don't yeah that's because they're growing long beards have little buns and fucking drink and to have a place that specializes in it

01:26:57.440 --> 01:27:26.840
You know, here in Chicago, that was shocking to me. There's a few places around the US. I've got one near me. It's bikeable. So it's dangerous. Or you could just, you know, Uber. Dangerous, but worth a risk, rat. Oh, I'm drinking fast. You said borderline earlier, and I thought of the Madonna song. How strong is this fucking thing? It's all right. Strong. Don't fall out of your chair, man.

01:27:30.700 --> 01:27:57.300
Matt, what are you drinking? John, you inspired me by drinking, you yourself drinking a staple IPA in the form of lunch. I went with another staple IPA. Parrish Brewing. Yep. I got that one. What's the, I haven't used that app in a while. Tavor. I didn't like that beer that much. I don't know what it was. I had it twice.

01:27:57.440 --> 01:28:27.400
I'm like I heard so many good things I just didn't like it that much I'm not sure what it was Jen and I both agree that it's hazier than it used to be okay so the flavor profiles changed somewhat on the beer yeah I expected to have more of a rich flavor to it and it didn't it's it has changed unfortunately I never had the original ones I can't compare yeah we had them at this event called savor that they used to have in DC and usually

01:28:27.420 --> 01:28:57.380
You go and you're getting sample pours. Now, at Decibel, when we do that, hint, hint, that'll be coming up at some point. Yeah, Decibel. You know, they'll just keep pouring, but you got to get your drink, go to the line and come back. You know, don't be a dick and ask for another one standing there, which people seem to do. Anyway, Jen was able at Saver, and this was at a real nice place in D.C. when they did this. The guy just kept pouring for her, and I just said, hey, man, just you stay up there and you do what you got to do.

01:28:57.420 --> 01:29:27.000
to do to keep getting more beers. And she's like, and she's not like that at all. And she's like, oh my God, I'm going to stay here. I'm like, you can park it. Just keep passing them back to me. So I don't have to stand in line. So anyway. Fabulous. Yeah. Fabulous. So my turn. I don't know how to, I don't know what the pronunciation of this is because both the name of the brewery and the beer, I don't know. Anyway, it looks like it says it's a job bridge jobage.

01:29:27.440 --> 01:29:57.340
J-R-B-I-D-G-E. If anyone knows how to pronounce it better than me, go at it. Of course, Jay leaves. I wanted to tell him this. Anyway, the brewery is called MBIB. I-M-B-I-B. They're from Reno, Sparks, Nevada. I was just there a month and a half ago, and I was told that I should stop at the brewery and check it out, and I did, and their beers are outstanding. What were you doing in Nevada? Driving across country. I don't know where. If you came to California, you're dead.

01:29:57.820 --> 01:30:26.280
I did. I was only there for two days. Literally, I flew in and was gone in a day and a half. It's a really long story. Matt stalked me a part of the way across the country. Anyway, Jay, I was saying, if you're in the Reno Sparks area, I-M-B-I-B, the brewery. Really good stuff. I wonder if it's called Imbibe without the E, or do they really call it Imbibe? I don't know. I'm saying I don't know how to pronounce it because I don't know if it's an acronym. I-M-B-I-B.

01:30:27.440 --> 01:30:55.720
It means to drink. So that's why I'm saying. Maybe it's imbibe. Yeah. Okay. Could be. But usually as an E, you know, on that word. That's why. That's why I was saying. Could have just done a different one. Is there like a line over it or something? Fuck that E. Well, yeah, there's no E on it. That's for sure. But then again, you know, it just. Imbibe. Imbibe. Imbibe. All right. Imbibe this beer. Anyway, it's a barrel aged dark ale. And I believe this one has rye in it. So, you know, that's the boner factor.

01:30:57.440 --> 01:30:59.200
Boner alert GIF.

01:30:59.540 --> 01:30:59.800
Boing.

01:31:01.540 --> 01:31:02.120
Fuck yeah.

01:31:02.640 --> 01:31:04.320
Put a little rye in a dark ale.

01:31:04.640 --> 01:31:05.560
You mean the bat nipples.

01:31:06.070 --> 01:31:06.680
They get hard.

01:31:07.760 --> 01:31:09.700
No, that's the prog nipples.

01:31:11.980 --> 01:31:12.700
Leathery lips.

01:31:13.480 --> 01:31:14.080
Come on.

01:31:14.580 --> 01:31:16.560
And George knows what I'm talking about.

01:31:17.470 --> 01:31:19.080
We're sitting there waiting for the concert to start.

01:31:19.210 --> 01:31:22.800
And before the show can start, we got to talk about prog nipples.

01:31:23.460 --> 01:31:23.580
Yeah.

01:31:24.780 --> 01:31:26.620
Somebody didn't take the riddle in that day.

01:31:28.680 --> 01:31:56.380
Well, that beer sounds yummy. Dark ales are great, but add a little bourbon and ride to it and let's party. Jay, go to Reno and check out some of those breweries up there. They got a lot of good stuff. I haven't been to Reno in a long time. It's so built up now. It's unreal. I don't recognize it anymore. Is it Reno? I went to the one in Sparks. Okay.

01:31:57.540 --> 01:31:58.660
It's a tiny little place.

01:31:58.740 --> 01:31:59.740
I'm not overdue for a trip up.

01:32:00.560 --> 01:32:00.660
Yeah.

01:32:02.120 --> 01:32:02.300
So.

01:32:03.060 --> 01:32:03.600
Well overdue.

01:32:05.240 --> 01:32:05.620
Right.

01:32:06.260 --> 01:32:06.520
All right.

01:32:06.900 --> 01:32:07.340
Jay's not,

01:32:08.120 --> 01:32:08.860
Jay's playing his guitar.

01:32:09.160 --> 01:32:10.460
It's after five, man.

01:32:10.500 --> 01:32:10.960
Come on.

01:32:11.460 --> 01:32:12.420
He ain't in Bibin now.

01:32:13.040 --> 01:32:13.460
It's the,

01:32:16.000 --> 01:32:18.040
it's expensive fucking coffee you drink.

01:32:18.140 --> 01:32:18.640
It's so good.

01:32:19.240 --> 01:32:19.880
It's called Blue Bottle.

01:32:20.440 --> 01:32:22.800
And it comes in like little six ounce cans.

01:32:22.920 --> 01:32:25.280
It's this iced coffee and it's like five bucks.

01:32:25.440 --> 01:32:26.120
And I buy them.

01:32:26.240 --> 01:32:56.180
I actually have bogs. Why do I keep mispronouncing things? Bags of blue bottle coffee here. Oh, is that right? Yeah, yeah. I think I got them. I don't remember where I got it from. Whole Foods maybe? I don't know. I'm not drinking anything new. I've got the rogue Newport Knights still. But the whole coconut thing in the beer earlier reminded me that earlier this evening I had a Cigar City Good Gourd, Imperial.

01:32:57.680 --> 01:33:25.860
They have one of the better ones. I'm not a fan of pumpkin beers, but theirs is one of the better ones. Yeah. And, uh, and Barb and I agreed that it's probably the vanilla or something, but it was slightly coconutty. Um, but regardless, it was a, you know, it was a good beer. All these beers with coconut and pumpkin and all this shit. That's the stuff. That's the stuff that TR loves. By the way, he says hello to everyone tonight. So if anyone wants to, I know Matt stalks him all the time.

01:33:25.960 --> 01:33:55.760
I do. Matt will tell you. He's always drinking these fucking jacked up stouts. And I'm like, well, you know, an oatmeal stout would be very nice right now. Yeah. Without like half of the fucking pastries on the planet in there. If it has a Hesper, it's okay. A Hesper. A Twisper. Hi, TR. We miss you. We love you, TR. He misses you guys. Marcus, at some point, that Hesper is going to become a Lisp for one of us. And then it'll be a Lisp at the end of the year. A Hesper.

01:33:58.040 --> 01:34:23.860
Nice. Yeah. I like it. I like it. All right. Let's talk about ZZ Top. Yeah. So the sword has called it quits in case you hadn't heard that 12 times already on this episode. I don't know why. I don't really care why because I stopped caring about them years ago before they turned into ZZ Top. Apparently they've been on a hiatus. It's been a while.

01:34:25.980 --> 01:34:54.900
They just kind of ran on steam for the project, but it ran out of steam before they did. Because I, what was it, Apocryphon? Yeah, that's the one you and I were talking about. That's the last one I thought was good, but Warp Riders is the last one I like a lot, which is the third album. And probably the best one in my mind. Yeah. First three are great.

01:34:55.980 --> 01:35:25.720
You mentioned Jay's good, but you could hear the changes already taking place. The wheels were coming off. Oh, right. And then that high country came out, and that's when I basically ended my relationship with the band. Well, then it was, then they released my app called Low Country, and I was like, yeah. Oh, the acoustic version of it or something? So they opened, so when, went up and saw Opeth at Radio City, which I never thought that would ever happen, to see them there. I don't know if anyone's been to Radio City Music Hall.

01:35:26.680 --> 01:35:55.900
Walked by it. Yeah. And when George said, what's funny is you walk by like, Oh, look at this building. Cause in New York, every building looks like that. Right. Right. And then you get inside and you're like, this is the Mecca of venues in the United States. It's just, it is, you can't argue. It's just absolutely incredible. And the sword opened and I wouldn't watch them because we had seen them open for Opeth on another show. And he was shimmying up there while playing guitar. One of the guys, I was like, what the fuck? I don't want to see someone shimmying up there.

01:35:55.980 --> 01:36:23.520
while they're playing? Yeah, we saw them at Fillmore. That's right. He shimmied at that. That's right. And I was like, no, I'm not doing it. I mean, some bands, they can alter their sound and try new things and it works for me. And, you know, do whatever you want as a band. That's on you. But sometimes they do it and it doesn't work, you know. But when a band jettisons the power and the song craft that commanded my attention in the first place, I just tend to move on, you know.

01:36:25.080 --> 01:36:27.300
They became a completely different band.

01:36:27.620 --> 01:36:27.780
Yeah.

01:36:28.200 --> 01:36:29.180
Well, it's not even that.

01:36:29.450 --> 01:36:35.120
I agree with the guys with that, but they took on like this, like ZZ Top, Thin Lizzy.

01:36:35.150 --> 01:36:36.200
And I'm not a Thin Lizzy fan.

01:36:36.200 --> 01:36:38.820
I know I'm like the one of the three people in the world that doesn't like Thin Lizzy.

01:36:39.840 --> 01:36:45.200
But there's just certain bands, if you go there, I just, I'm not going that way.

01:36:45.330 --> 01:36:47.020
Because there's only one band that does that.

01:36:47.320 --> 01:36:48.440
There's only one ZZ Top.

01:36:49.160 --> 01:36:49.620
There really is.

01:36:49.700 --> 01:36:50.300
There's just only one.

01:36:50.740 --> 01:36:52.520
Nobody else has ever sounded like them.

01:36:53.320 --> 01:36:54.620
So I just like eh.

01:36:56.160 --> 01:36:58.200
But I mean they put out four really good albums.

01:36:58.420 --> 01:36:59.940
I really like Apocophone too.

01:37:00.160 --> 01:37:02.700
So Warp Riders is my favorite as well.

01:37:04.240 --> 01:37:08.420
Will and I saw them at the fifth year anniversary at DC Brow.

01:37:08.700 --> 01:37:10.660
They had a big festival.

01:37:10.940 --> 01:37:11.480
And that was the.

01:37:11.640 --> 01:37:12.420
I think they were the headline.

01:37:12.660 --> 01:37:13.980
Jay one of your bands was there.

01:37:14.820 --> 01:37:16.880
Some band from Sweden that you used to like.

01:37:17.340 --> 01:37:17.820
Oh god.

01:37:18.860 --> 01:37:20.000
Kavalker Tech or whatever the name is.

01:37:20.020 --> 01:37:20.480
Kavalker Tech.

01:37:20.680 --> 01:37:20.820
Yeah.

01:37:21.040 --> 01:37:21.300
Kavalker Tech.

01:37:21.640 --> 01:37:21.920
I think they.

01:37:21.920 --> 01:37:22.580
I used to like by the way.

01:37:24.660 --> 01:37:52.460
That was the dude, the singer, he doesn't wear a shirt, he was all hairy and everything. Matt Pike? He looks a little bit like Matt Pike. He does. A little bit. He's not in the band anymore, I don't think. Anyway, even though I didn't like any of the new stuff they were doing at that point, they still were awesome live. They're a great band live. It's just not my style. No, they left metal and that's what they did. And honestly, maybe I, who knows exactly, exactly.

01:37:52.620 --> 01:38:22.560
Why they quit, but they probably did. They probably were just like, I don't want to do this. Yeah. I mean, because clearly they didn't want to do it anymore. Yeah. They still had followers. There was a whole other group of people that came to them when they started doing that high country shit. I know. But they were not, they weren't, they weren't one of ours anymore. No. Oh, wow. That's the luck. And by the way, they shouldn't have been called the sword at that point. It was more like the tractor or something. I mean, it was just the John Deere pitchfork. Yeah, the pitchfork guy.

01:38:22.620 --> 01:38:52.600
We're the hoes! Wait, that's us. That's probably taken, yeah. Yeah, that's us. Well, well. Well, rest in peace, Lord. Yeah, exactly. Yep. You will not be missed. Much. By us, anyway. Listen, I have those albums on vinyl. I'm still going to spin them. Yeah, me too. Yeah, me too. One to Us Wolves is still a badass song. So. So our next news item, a little item called the Decibel Middlecast.

01:38:52.640 --> 01:39:21.580
At Alumbir Fest, Decibel has announced the first bands and breweries for 2023 in April. And some of us have already bought tickets. Some of us need to get on it. Yeah, I begrudgingly bought because I'm not big on this lineup like you guys personally. I'm not either. I'm super excited about this. So I'm just basically going to give everybody handjobs. Yeah. And Jay. Wait, wait, hold on. Sorry. Cut that part out. I'm joking.

01:39:22.660 --> 01:39:52.460
I don't care about the initial announcement at all. Well, the incantation, I'll be glad to see them. And honestly, suicidal is the only other way I care about. Well, they had me at suicidal. Suicidal Tendencies, I've never seen them. They're doing the first album plus the hits. Hits. Which is cool. Which is, you know, that works for me. Black Dahlia Murder, particularly without Trevor, I'm like, eh, whatever. Let's see what they got. I don't care. But see, now I might want to watch them because of that.

01:39:52.620 --> 01:40:21.000
Yeah, but I Hate God doing Take Is Needed for Pain. I've never seen I Hate God live. I dig them. I really want to see that. Incantation, you know, we've seen they're doing, as said, Diabolical Conquest. Not one of my favorites, but I know. It's my favorite record. Actually, I think I might be confusing it with the first album that sucks so hard.

01:40:22.640 --> 01:40:52.560
of Diabolical Conquest by playing the whole record is the highlight for me. It's my favorite death metal band playing my favorite album in their catalog. It wins the day for me. It would even be better if they got Daniel Corchado to come and perform the vocals because he did it on the album and he only was on one record. Yeah. And they didn't end things well, I don't think, but it's been 30 years. Get over it. Five years. And he does the chasm, which we like. So he's been in music.

01:40:52.620 --> 01:41:22.020
So, you know, it's not like he's been out of metal. He could come and do it. So I hope maybe they invite him back to do it. That would be really great. But I think the death metal line up here is really great, too, because we got Frozen Soul, Undeath, Worm, Fuming Mouth, Phobophilic, which is my album a month. Last month. Squalagrind. Yeah, I want to see that. I like a Squalagrind. Yeah. I wouldn't mind seeing Worm just because everyone keeps calling them a swampy funeral doom band.

01:41:22.060 --> 01:41:51.920
But then you listen to the last album and the new song from this upcoming EP and there's way more going on than Swami. There's like proggy guitar solos and I'm like, wait a minute, I thought this band was supposed to be Funeral Doom. So they're kind of interesting. I do want to see them. I want to see Miz more. I'm not like a huge fan, but I think that'll just be interesting. It's not a deadline up. It's just, I will say this, as far as just like in-person experience and the incantation,

01:41:52.080 --> 01:42:20.880
It's very cool. And it's cool that they've got some other names and stuff. But I will say Suicidal puts on this fucking bombastic live performance. So you just saw them, right? Yeah, at Psycho. Yeah, me and Matt saw them. And I would say it was one of the best three to five sets of the weekend. Where's your man? Yep, agreed. He's an evangelist, man. That fucking guy. Send me your money. He's like a motivational speaker. And I mean, and it just,

01:42:21.620 --> 01:42:23.560
They just blew the place up.

01:42:24.660 --> 01:42:24.740
Yeah.

01:42:24.880 --> 01:42:33.380
I like to add Mismore, too, because Mismore is different than some of this, because it's very death metal heavy, but obviously they got some other things going on.

01:42:33.520 --> 01:42:38.900
But Mismore, I was going to actually see them recently, but I was out of town when they performed here in Chicago.

01:42:40.780 --> 01:42:44.520
George and I could have saw them when they played DC, but instead we went and saw Deep Purple.

01:42:44.920 --> 01:42:45.100
Yeah.

01:42:47.060 --> 01:42:48.640
I made Jay and Sergey Washington.

01:42:48.660 --> 01:42:51.000
I was happy to see Deep Purple again for the first time in 20 years.

01:42:52.500 --> 01:43:20.880
Yeah. I don't know. I mean, it's good enough for me. You know, I just want to see my boys. So my boys better fucking show up so I can see them. Otherwise, I don't see my boys and I'm just sitting there drinking beer in a corner going, where's my boys? We're going to keep selling you on Vegas. It's time to switch allegiances, man. Hey, I, I, I. Oh yeah, Vegas. Yeah, the pool. I want to do Vegas. I don't have a ticket for, for, uh, for this. Matt, did you get one yet? I did.

01:43:21.120 --> 01:43:50.460
I gotta confirm my logistics with the family. Oh, okay. I'm leaving. I haven't got one yet either. Did they pull a Valken and start selling the tickets for next year right after the last one? That's what they did with Psycho Las Vegas. Wait, I'll tell you this. We didn't have both of our Psycho Las Vegas tickets already. We probably can't do that much fucking fun. And I think, you know, and they're gonna have, they'll have at least seven bands we all see. But I'm not trying to crap on this. No, I'm probably not going to Psycho Las Vegas because then the Prague Power is like two weeks later.

01:43:51.100 --> 01:44:19.220
That's unfortunate. It's just too much. I can't do both. There's no way. And I got four left, so I got to get them done. Yep. Well, who's, what beer is going to be there? Well, we got True Brewing, of course, as always. A lot of usual suspects. Three Floyds. Yeah. Ever heard of them? I don't know who they are, but they're okay. All right. Brewing Horns. Brewing Horns will be there. Yeah, yeah. Yards. It's always worth it.

01:44:22.860 --> 01:44:50.980
I don't know. Looks like it says war pigs. I don't know them. Oh, something else. I can't read. It's war pigs has done a lot of collaborations with three Floyds. Oh, yes. It's three Floyds and McKellar. Okay. Yeah. KCBC. Do you know them? Yeah. They're that's is that Kings County from New York. They have good stuff. They do. They're one of the better ones from New York. Yeah. And there's one that has a metropolitan area. I should say a little bald guy.

01:44:51.120 --> 01:45:21.060
the mustache. I don't know who that is. Natty Bo? Not that bald guy. With one eye? Yeah. And Magnanimous? Magnanimous? Yeah. So the problem now, I think, with metal breweries is that a lot of breweries think they're brewing metal beers and they're not metal breweries. So we've got a lot of the usual suspects now on the brewery side. Did I say a droid theory? Because they're going to be there. Yeah. That's weird. Really? Yeah. Who would have thought? Who are those guys?

01:45:21.120 --> 01:45:49.000
I've never heard of them. Victory, another one that I wouldn't really call metal. No, but Victory's got some decent stuff, though. I mean, maybe they can bring like an amped up like golden monkey or something, which would be badass. True Brewing is going to be there, but they usually do Sours and Smoked. Smoked is that. Or is that Hammerheart? That's Hammerheart. Hammerheart does all the smoke stuff. True is Sours, man. Yeah, true. Mostly. What's Bone Up Brewing? You don't know that one. Oh, you're going to know.

01:45:51.100 --> 01:46:19.960
It's going to be bone out all weekend, baby. Bone out, bone in. I mean, I have prog nipples right now. Thinking about it. There you go. Yeah. I mean, I'm sure we're going to get a lot of good beers. It's going to be a good time no matter who's playing because who cares? Yeah. I mean, you're going to be at the emergency room anyway. Shit. No, because I'm going in the pit. No. I'm going to go in the pit and I will avoid all of that. No. Yeah, exactly. You'll be sore, but it's because of you, not because of somebody else. Exactly.

01:46:21.140 --> 01:46:50.880
I'll probably go to the balcony this time. Yeah. And there's not, not everyone's been announced yet. I understand. Right. Yeah. There's more to come. So we'll see. Okay, cool. So maybe it'll drop something that I'll be down with. So if not, then it's more time up in the lounge kicking back. Well, I mean, you're already in anyway, John. So, well, here's the thing. Sometimes when you go to a festival and you're a free agent, it's, it's actually more fun because you're like, Oh, go check out every band for like half the set. But I'm going to get fucking ripped at this thing.

01:46:51.100 --> 01:47:21.080
Yeah, I mean, you know, that is a free opportunity there. Yeah. And it's a chance to hang out more and visit with people. Exactly. It's like, so, you know, it's what we do half the time anyway. So I don't even I'm not even going to hide the fact that it's it's a social event more than it is a musical event. Yeah. Margaret's on just pulled my plenty. I'm going to stay at the same hotel I did last time the Sinesta because it's like, I don't know, like a couple blocks away to get plenty there. Sorry. I was going to try

01:47:21.120 --> 01:47:50.360
and convince everybody we should stay at the same place for once. Well, we can. You can convince me, George. You can sweet talk. Whispy you sweet nothings. I already booked because I got such a good rate. Did you? Damn. Which hotel? Same one we always booked at. Because that lobby entrance is just how do you not drink there? Plus, I'm going in there just so I can flip Matt off as I go into the fucking lounge.

01:47:51.100 --> 01:48:19.120
because it's happening, man. I got lifetime status coming up that year. Yeah. And hopefully we'll see some of you out there, the listeners. Yes. It's like six months away, but start planning. Isn't that crazy? I already talked to Jeff, and he's getting tickets for him and Steph. So we'll see them there. And Stacy says she wants to come, too. I don't know if she's all the way in.

01:48:21.100 --> 01:48:51.020
We have, so it's a podcast mother. You'll know when she's all the way in. The podcast mother's coming with Jeff, right? She looks after us. Yes, yes, we need stuff. We need stuff, you know? The captain might come. Sweet. Justin, you came to MDF. Can you do a shorter trip to Philadelphia? He fucking better. You know? Yeah, fucking Justin. You better fucking be there, motherfucker. He was there, wasn't he? Yeah, because didn't you have him have some heart-to-heart hammered at the bar when we got back to the house?

01:48:51.100 --> 01:49:19.660
Yeah, yeah. Yeah. That's right. Yeah. Be there again. He loves death metal. And then this is very death metal forward. Exactly. And who else? Like Nick? Nicky coming out? Huh? Huh? What else we got? Called people out right on the show. Yeah. Fuck yeah. They call us out. Let's call them out. You know? Everyone who was there last time, be there again. Please. And the rest of you that weren't there, get your asses there. Come party with us. You want to see Matt and Jay again? Come to Decibel.

01:49:24.220 --> 01:49:50.160
Yes, I'm sure that was just as memorable for him as it was for us. Yeah. Awesome. Just come out. We have a good time. Yeah, it's fun. All right, I guess we can move on to the next item. So Black Sabbath is releasing deluxe versions of Heaven and Hell and Mob Rules. Did this already happen? I'm confused.

01:49:51.300 --> 01:50:20.180
I have them. I have the ones from Rhino. They're the exact same. They're coming out on CD or something. Okay. I thought it was vinyl. I perused them. It looks like the exact same package. Okay. In 2021, Rhino put them out and I have the vinyl and the vinyls are the exact same. These are just CDs then? No, there's vinyl and CDs. The CDs have more on them. Yeah, there's going to be some live tracks and shit. The vinyl has live tracks too. Yeah. All right. Well, all I know is I

01:50:20.200 --> 01:50:49.740
I saw it and I was like, that's cool. And that led me down the rabbit hole of, well, when are we going to see, spoilers, when are we going to see a remix of Born Again? Stop it. Save it. He says it's coming. Yeah, I looked and like last year, Tony said he was thinking about doing a remix. So that album fucking deserves it. That's coming up in a few minutes. I know, I know.

01:50:50.200 --> 01:51:19.600
Anyway, meanwhile, Ozzy has launched a makeup collection, so that makes sense. Awesome. So I don't know why they keep re-releasing these Black Sabbath albums, but I want Heaven and Hell, the band Heaven and Hell. I want their album, because I don't have that on vinyl. I want that to be called Black Sabbath. Yeah. I have it on vinyl. I'm saying. Yeah, I do too, but they probably just came out like, you know, 10,000 of them or something, George, and they probably just bought it when it came out. Yeah.

01:51:21.660 --> 01:51:23.700
That's because we're like OG metal

01:51:23.900 --> 01:51:25.680
and really cool and way, way cooler

01:51:25.840 --> 01:51:26.440
than Markisan

01:51:29.000 --> 01:51:30.860
I don't have the live one

01:51:31.000 --> 01:51:32.060
I do have the live one

01:51:34.760 --> 01:51:36.280
I think that

01:51:37.640 --> 01:51:38.920
anything to do with that album

01:51:39.440 --> 01:51:40.380
would be a

01:51:41.560 --> 01:51:42.680
wives fight

01:51:43.560 --> 01:51:45.400
I think between Wendy and Sharon

01:51:45.860 --> 01:51:47.240
why I don't know

01:51:49.120 --> 01:51:49.680
but

01:51:49.680 --> 01:52:18.420
I just feel like there's just so much of that bullshit going on behind the scenes because I'm still pissed that they were called Heaven and Hell. They were Black Sabbath members, you know, and it just makes me so mad that Tony Omi capitulated to Sharon Osbourne on that whole thing. Well, I mean, he used to, when Ozzy left, and for a long time after that, Tony owned the name, but Sharon owns the name. I know. More specifically, Ozzy owns the name.

01:52:18.880 --> 01:52:48.020
So, and there's no defense, because there's no reason to God's earth with the amount of money that flows around in that. Exactly. They couldn't just let him use the fucking name. It just, don't even get me started. It just makes me so fucking mad. No, I agree. I totally agree. I hope you get your vinyl for that, Marcus, to have that to complete. I agree with you, but, you know, the most important thing is that they made a good album, and I want to have it. Yeah. It is good, and, you know, there's some, boy, I'm breaking into heaven on that. Yeah.

01:52:49.640 --> 01:53:18.760
I saw them on that tour. Yeah. Tony, Tony recently, there was some news clip recently where he said Ronnie wanted to make a second one, but dude. Why not? I mean, they did how many four albums together? Yeah. And I assume they probably weren't going to do it too, you know, but it's just, it's too bad. Another one of those things that we lost is the O.B. Yeah. I got to see that. I was like front row for heaven and hell, like in the pit. Was that them or was that the four bands?

01:53:18.860 --> 01:53:20.700
The Metal Masters Tour.

01:53:21.110 --> 01:53:23.060
No, it was them and Megadeth.

01:53:24.340 --> 01:53:25.400
Oh, it's a different tour then.

01:53:25.620 --> 01:53:26.540
Somebody else, yeah.

01:53:26.860 --> 01:53:28.220
That was the first Heaven and Hell Tour.

01:53:29.100 --> 01:53:30.220
It was Megadeth.

01:53:30.600 --> 01:53:33.380
Honestly, I think it was Megadeth.

01:53:35.140 --> 01:53:36.300
Well, maybe it's the only one I remember.

01:53:36.330 --> 01:53:37.340
Oh, it was Machine Head.

01:53:37.540 --> 01:53:38.700
Machine Head, Megadeth.

01:53:39.260 --> 01:53:40.380
That might have been, yeah.

01:53:40.620 --> 01:53:41.920
And Heaven and Hell.

01:53:41.920 --> 01:53:42.780
But it was just Heaven and Hell.

01:53:42.780 --> 01:53:43.720
It was at Meriwether.

01:53:44.470 --> 01:53:45.800
It was before the record was out.

01:53:46.480 --> 01:53:48.140
Before they even were talking about making a record.

01:53:48.300 --> 01:54:17.080
It was just like, hey, let's play these songs. No, the record was out when I saw them. Are you sure? I'm not sure. I'm old. I can't remember shit. I saw them play with Priest, Motorhead, and Testament. That was the Metal Masters Tour. That was the Metal Masters Tour, which I thought that was before. Oh, no, wait. No, actually, John, that might have been Dio. No. No, yeah. Wait, who was it?

01:54:18.280 --> 01:54:48.260
in hell. No, no, because I saw Dio, Motorhead, and Iron Maiden. Yeah, I saw that too. You're right. Yes. That was another one. No. And I've said this before, but I'm going to tell you anyway, but at the one John just detailed the Motorhead. Testament Motorhead, Heaven and Hell, and in Priest. And that was the one at which I shook the man's hand himself. Lemmy? Dio. Ronnie James Dio. Ronnie James. That's right. He came out to the audience and just walked up this catwalk that was

01:54:48.300 --> 01:55:18.060
It's not even supposed to be something you walk. It was just the stairs to get up to the section I was in, which was like, you know, it's like an outdoor theater. I was like, how come nobody's running over there? So I fucking ran over there and shook his hand. And then everybody came over. That's as close as I ever got to him. But I saw him at the record theater in Towson, the same place I saw him. And I didn't get to touch him, but I spent the whole set.

01:55:18.540 --> 01:55:19.680
10 feet away from him.

01:55:19.720 --> 01:55:21.500
You were pretty much touching.

01:55:21.980 --> 01:55:24.800
Your actual aura was touching him at that place.

01:55:25.560 --> 01:55:28.380
Yeah, I mean, this is like, this is a teeny fucking place.

01:55:28.480 --> 01:55:29.760
This is essentially a bar.

01:55:30.840 --> 01:55:30.960
Okay.

01:55:32.080 --> 01:55:32.820
You know, it is small.

01:55:33.100 --> 01:55:35.380
It actually holds a decent amount, like 700 or something.

01:55:35.560 --> 01:55:36.520
Yeah, but it's small.

01:55:37.000 --> 01:55:38.780
It's your version of Jax, basically.

01:55:39.060 --> 01:55:41.780
Yeah, I mean, it's like, it's not a Fillmore or something.

01:55:41.880 --> 01:55:43.920
It's like not even like maybe a third of that.

01:55:44.300 --> 01:55:45.160
No, yeah.

01:55:46.040 --> 01:55:46.800
It's in Towson.

01:55:47.280 --> 01:56:17.120
It's, you know, we've all been there. Yeah. So in any case, if you are, oh, we're on the, I don't know where I'm at. Ozzy's makeup thing, but. Ozzy's makeup, that was just more of a jab. Yeah, I know. Yeah. But if you are thinking of getting these packages, it's just the packages that came out a few years ago. Yeah, that's what I thought. All right. Yeah. Which, by the way, very well, they're remastered too, by the way. They sound great. And the live stuff that came out with was really good too, but. Yeah. Yeah, no, they're awesome. And then the package,

01:56:18.480 --> 01:56:47.220
And that's some of the Hammersmith stuff that we were talking about before. That's right. Yep. And then probably, presumably, on the Mob Rules one, I'm guessing some of those are outtakes from Live Evil, most likely. Without Live Evil. From that tour, at least. Yeah. Yeah. That's a live album that should not exist. They should remix that, huh? Really? It's the whole thing? Remix Live Evil? Yeah. Because that record is,

01:56:47.280 --> 01:56:48.840
It's a little muddy, you know?

01:56:49.420 --> 01:56:50.300
I think it's a good record.

01:56:50.340 --> 01:56:51.740
They did re-release it, though.

01:56:51.740 --> 01:56:53.600
I don't remember if they remastered or remixed.

01:56:54.040 --> 01:56:55.820
Didn't that come out in the box, Marcus?

01:56:58.100 --> 01:57:00.240
All the D.O. albums and the live album?

01:57:00.460 --> 01:57:02.760
I think they released it separately, though, too.

01:57:03.020 --> 01:57:03.480
I can't remember.

01:57:03.740 --> 01:57:05.120
That just kind of rings a bell to me, too.

01:57:05.520 --> 01:57:07.780
Because that had the one that had the three new songs on it,

01:57:08.100 --> 01:57:09.220
and The Devil Cried or whatever,

01:57:09.340 --> 01:57:13.260
which was a fucking killer tune that they released separately.

01:57:14.160 --> 01:57:15.600
So, anyway.

01:57:15.840 --> 01:57:16.480
But you know what?

01:57:18.760 --> 01:57:25.360
I want to watch the documentary again now. Somebody listening right now is like, what about the fucking Tony

01:57:25.560 --> 01:57:46.540
Martin era? There's a lot of fans who want the Tony Martin era stuff reissued. And Tony said something about doing a reissue for those. Yeah, I know. I know. Well, all he needs to do is die and then they'll put it out. Yeah. Yeah. As long as Sharon's around. Anyway. All right. Well, no, I mean, I don't think she can't

01:57:46.540 --> 01:58:16.340
with these though, can she? I don't know, because first of all, this is all, that should all be Tony and me solo work, because that's what he wanted to do, and it would be so much better if it was for all the musicians. I mean, the Tony Martin stuff, I feel like she can't touch that. Maybe she can't, I don't know. Well, whatever. You know what, let's go from one controversial issue band to another. All right, then. Sorry, sorry, Troy. As we know, Judas Priest was backdoored into the rock and roll.

01:58:16.380 --> 01:58:46.300
Hall of Fame. And apparently KK Downing will be performing with them. Yep. So not only did he announce it himself, but then that guy who stands stage left, your right on the stage that never has, hasn't moved in 50 years. It's an old joke, but it never gets old. He even confirmed who knows what will happen after this. Yeah. So pretty much they're getting back together. They're getting, yeah, they're getting the band back together. And, um, but if they do that, then Richie,

01:58:46.380 --> 01:59:16.000
would be out or are they going to yannick him? No, what's his name? I would wager. Oh, right, right, right, right. That's right. I forgot about. Yeah. I think they should do a maiden thing and go with three out there. Why not? And then bring Glenn out. They could have four. Then there'll be more than maiden. Yeah. They'll finally be better. It should be their new name. Yeah. We're more than. Yeah, Les Banks is going to be there too, Jeff. Yeah, well, fuck it. Double. Well, you know, now that I would pay big bucks to go see Les.

01:59:16.380 --> 01:59:17.740
Scott Travis on stage.

01:59:18.160 --> 01:59:19.500
He's doing the hall of fame thing.

01:59:19.620 --> 01:59:19.840
That's like,

01:59:19.840 --> 01:59:20.300
I'll be there.

01:59:22.060 --> 01:59:22.340
Um,

01:59:23.240 --> 01:59:23.400
you know,

01:59:23.600 --> 01:59:24.360
we'll see what happens.

01:59:24.580 --> 01:59:24.840
I don't know.

01:59:25.660 --> 01:59:26.760
I hope so.

01:59:26.900 --> 01:59:27.300
I mean,

01:59:27.940 --> 01:59:31.100
at least just bury this fucking thing for good.

01:59:31.560 --> 01:59:31.920
They should.

01:59:32.160 --> 01:59:33.180
I'm tired of them fighting.

01:59:34.060 --> 01:59:34.720
But you know what though?

01:59:34.940 --> 01:59:35.980
It's fraught though,

01:59:37.160 --> 01:59:37.940
because they,

01:59:38.240 --> 01:59:41.280
he sold his song rights and they bought him out of crease.

01:59:41.580 --> 01:59:42.820
So he'd be like a hired gun.

01:59:42.940 --> 01:59:43.500
And I just,

01:59:43.540 --> 02:00:13.360
He's already such a bigger dude. I just think of a fall apart so quick. I know. I think the... I like him, by the way. It's not that. His book is the most angry of those. Oh, by the way, Rob's new book is coming out. You can order it signed. Another book? Yeah, it's called The Metal Scriptures or something like that. It's a biblical term. And there's... I showed up... Go to his Facebook page and there's like four online vendors who are selling it at face value signed when it comes out. Oh, nice. I've got the other ones signed. Like Barnes & Noble has signed ones.

02:00:14.420 --> 02:00:43.200
So what's this? Because he pretty much brought it up to COVID on his last one. Well, maybe it's more stories you don't know about. I think it's about the title implies that it's just about metal. Like not necessarily about him. I'll tell you what the title is. While Jay's looking, I'll be honest, it would be kind of cool if he did come back for at least a little bit. Because unlike Iron Maiden, and I love Maiden,

02:00:43.560 --> 02:01:12.880
But unlike Iron Maiden, Priest actually will pull out an old rarity. The last like X number of years, probably 10 years. They've been pulling out old songs they've never played before. Maiden doesn't do that at all. It just pisses me off. It's not like they're ever going to play where Eagles there. Well, if they do, it's not like Bruce ain't going to take a shit during the song or something. You know, there's a bittersweet thing too, though, and that's that.

02:01:12.920 --> 02:01:42.520
He'll come back and he won't be playing with Glenn. So that's kind of fucked up. No, they went on the British Steel stuff. Glenn comes out for that still. He doesn't really do much. So here's this book. It's called Rob Halford Biblical, Heavy Metal Scriptures. The metal guy himself, Rob Halford, the vocalist, Judas Priest, the author of Critically Plain, blah, blah, blah, delivers yet again now with a Bible of hard rock and heavy metal all in his enlightening, hilarious, one-of-a-kind books.

02:01:42.920 --> 02:02:10.720
Well, that could be interesting. I found this. It says, it's an encyclopedia and manifesto in which Halford shares his opinions, memories, and anecdotes regarding every element of the rock and roll work and lifestyle from tours to taboos, riffs to riders, and drugs to devil horns. And Halford's relaxed and honest tone. The book mixes serious and in-depth pieces with whimsical reflections on lessons learned during his 50 years of a life in music.

02:02:11.820 --> 02:02:12.660
That's pretty good.

02:02:12.720 --> 02:02:42.680
So just part two from his first book. I'll read it. Pretty much. Fair enough. Fair enough. They were right about his voice. He's one of the people who wrote his own book. And I really enjoyed that book. I liked him more when I was done reading it. I already liked him. Cool. Well, it comes out like early November. So if you want to sign one. Right on. All right. Let's move on to that other British band. Yeah. Who? Iron Maiden. Last news item, by the way. Yeah. And I'm called

02:02:42.720 --> 02:03:12.000
in this, the Iron Maiden News Variety Pack, because there's two. One was that during Aces High, if you've seen them on this last 12 years of touring, feels like it. I mean, it feels like so long ago since we saw it. During Aces High, they have the plane that comes out, and apparently there was a malfunction with that where they had some trouble. The plane crashed behind the stage.

02:03:13.620 --> 02:03:41.340
I saw that freeze frame, but I didn't see it. I think they had to bring it down. Yeah, they brought it down because they couldn't get it to work. Oh, well, shit happens. It worked when we were there. And apparently Bruce pulled somebody out of the crowd and chucked him off the stage or something. I didn't read that one. No, so some dude jumped on stage and was doing his whole metal pose and headbanging. As people do. I guess near Yannick.

02:03:42.080 --> 02:03:43.520
And I guess Bruce,

02:03:45.100 --> 02:03:46.620
let him do it for a second.

02:03:47.020 --> 02:03:47.340
Cause Bruce,

02:03:47.560 --> 02:03:47.720
you know,

02:03:47.780 --> 02:03:51.240
is the one who was able to move around the stage a little easier singing.

02:03:51.440 --> 02:03:53.480
And then if I'm not mistaken,

02:03:54.000 --> 02:03:55.060
somebody please correct me if I'm wrong.

02:03:55.100 --> 02:03:59.380
I think he eventually went and grabbed the guy maybe by his hair and

02:03:59.760 --> 02:04:00.520
dragged them off stage.

02:04:00.740 --> 02:04:01.920
And the whole time I'm watching this,

02:04:01.920 --> 02:04:05.280
I'm thinking little thing called security.

02:04:06.240 --> 02:04:08.240
Where the fuck are you?

02:04:09.680 --> 02:04:10.780
They're all buried under the airplanes.

02:04:11.380 --> 02:04:11.600
Yeah.

02:04:12.460 --> 02:04:41.000
That's right. He tried to take him off stage by hand at first, but then the guy broke free and then he had to drag him off. Yeah. And it wasn't like he tried to drag him off the first time. He tried to kind of guide him off a little bit. And I know some people out there probably say, oh, dude, it's so fucking metal. Unfortunately, ever since the Pantera thing, you just can't get on stage. They're they're working. There's people working on the side of the stage. I mean,

02:04:41.700 --> 02:05:11.540
They can't take that risk. It sounds old for me and fuddy-duddy to say it, but I wouldn't want to risk the musicians. I mean, look what happened to, what's his name, from Lamb of God. He didn't even do anything, and a guy fell and died, and they tried to imprison him. Yeah, there's a whole book on that. You know, so, I mean, they're just trying to perform for everybody, and I don't know. It's not a hardcore show where the bands invite people up on stage, you know, or a death metal show where they invite them up and they jump off the stage and stuff.

02:05:11.720 --> 02:05:41.600
It's just... Don't be a dick. I would have loved... I want to see that with Megadeth, and I want to see all this talk about fucking Dave being a brown belt. I want to see him just roundhouse somehow. Fuck yeah, man. There's a pretty famous clip of Keith Richards whacking a dude with his Telecaster. It was like maybe Tattoo You era. This guy gets up on stage. Yeah, I mean, he had some like this. Oh, that's awesome.

02:05:41.700 --> 02:06:10.960
He really fucking gets it too, yeah. Damn. The balloon's coming down and shit. He's like, get the fuck out of here. So the Niners just played somebody recently. I can't remember what game it was. Some dude ran on the field, and I think Bobby Wagner, whatever team he's playing for now. Yeah, I saw that, yeah. The dude ran over and was like, yeah, woo, and his arms up in the air, and Bobby Wagner fucking laid him out on the sideline, and I was just like, exactly. You want to run out on the field and pose a threat? You're going to get laid out by a football player.

02:06:10.960 --> 02:06:40.240
That guy went down like a sack of potatoes too. Like a bag of dirt just dropped. Yeah. Now it was a naked chick. Okay, let her run. We'll just kind of corral her over to the side. You know, the naked guy, nobody wants to tackle that guy. Corral him over to the side. Yeah. Not going to lie. The other night in the Yankees-Astros game too, and somebody jumped on, and they won't even show it on TV, but somebody, it was going on for like,

02:06:40.980 --> 02:07:10.400
maybe four minutes and the guy wouldn't let go of El Tuve and they didn't show a minute of it. They were just showing other things in the field going, now he won't let go of El Tuve and police go out there. It took forever, dude. This guy was out on the field for like a while. But they just, I think sometimes they choose not to show it. They shouldn't show it because that gives them too much attention. Yeah. The same way they don't tell, they don't, this is true.

02:07:11.000 --> 02:07:40.860
You guys know this. John probably does. They don't. They never put in the paper. They agreed not to put in the paper anymore. When somebody jumps off the Golden Gate Bridge. Yeah, it's just like that. So they don't encourage people because it's like it's an average of. One a month or something like that. It's crazy. Yeah. So years ago, the Chronicle agreed never to report it in the news. So you never hear about it. But they did it because it's just become such a famous suicide spot. Yeah. Yeah. And you can literally,

02:07:40.980 --> 02:08:08.820
They walk across the bridge and there's cars like two feet from you while you're going across the bridge. Hey, look at that guy. He just jumped. You know, I'm not being flippant. It looks like that. So they're putting a net under it now. They used to have a net when they built the damn bridge. So they should have just kept it. Anyway. Anyway, let's move on. We've jumped over our metal podcast bridge or the shark. Yeah, we're trying. Time for new releases.

02:08:18.800 --> 02:08:38.220
First up is the new album from Acid Witch. This is their fourth album, Rot Among Us. They're a Detroit psych death doom band. I'm not sure if he's still in the band. I couldn't tell, but Mike from Temple of Void used to be the guitar player in this band. But either way, this is a pretty banging album.

02:08:42.060 --> 02:09:09.740
I listened to it, George. I liked it. I thought it was pretty fun. It's just got really rolling, good time songs. So, you know, I enjoyed it. I love the name, Acid Witch. Yeah. And, you know, the other stuff's good, too, but I think this is probably my favorite. I don't know if I've listened to much of the other stuff.

02:09:09.820 --> 02:09:39.240
I've got it on vinyl. You're a fan. I'm a fan. Could it be a top 25 contender for you, George? Maybe. Maybe. Responsibility. It's crazy because we're almost to November. I know. Time flies now, man. It's ridiculous. Yeah. Time flies. We record our top 25 in December, so we don't have much time. I'm embarrassed I didn't know about this next one.

02:09:41.060 --> 02:10:09.740
Well, okay. So let me talk about that. So next up, we have the new exhumed album to the dead. It's their 10th album. They're a Cali death metal band. And the last few exhumed albums, I really dug a lot. And so far, this one has not really grabbed me. Okay. I mean, I've only listened to it a little bit, but it just, I don't know.

02:10:09.820 --> 02:10:39.760
I don't know if it's me or if it's the album. I sort of, I went back to the album before it and listened to some of that too, to be like, is it different? And it didn's not, I don't know, I just wasn't paying attention to even though it's not script. Cause I thought the last two were really good. Death, Revenge and something horror. It's got the word horror on it. Yeah. I don'T know. I think,

02:10:39.820 --> 02:11:09.720
If you like the last ones, you're going to like this one. It's still the same gory, macabre metal extracted from a putrid, crumbling graveyard. There you go. I mean, all right, well, I'll try it again. I'm not shitting on it. It just didn't grab me as much as the other ones did the first time I heard it. I mean, you got so much metal, George. Maybe you weren't in the right mood for it. Exactly. It's like the perfect record for Halloween. I'm completely agreeing with you there. It's like, you know, the way things have been going, it just might have been the wrong time. Production's really good on it.

02:11:09.820 --> 02:11:39.800
The Solos Are Really Good. I don't know. I like the songs. All right. I'll try it again. Give it again. Give it another spin. They kind of stepped away from, just as I look at it here, something I liked very much, which was they went with this 80s video store kind of horror saying for the covers of the last two, and this one's just kind of back to just a kind of not generic cover, but I really liked that concept. I did too. All right. So next up, we have the third

02:11:39.820 --> 02:11:44.700
from Purgatory, their death doom band from the Netherlands.

02:11:47.180 --> 02:11:50.100
This is another one I only listened to a little bit, but I dug what I liked.

02:11:50.110 --> 02:11:53.340
And I know at least several people really liked this a lot.

02:11:53.350 --> 02:11:54.320
I know Justin digs it.

02:11:55.180 --> 02:11:55.660
It's real good.

02:11:56.260 --> 02:11:56.820
Real, real good.

02:11:57.100 --> 02:11:57.540
Real, real good.

02:11:58.160 --> 02:11:59.100
You want to talk about it a little bit?

02:11:59.220 --> 02:11:59.940
Real, real good.

02:12:00.740 --> 02:12:05.700
I remember, I mean, I think their last album was on, I don't know if it was my year end,

02:12:05.810 --> 02:12:07.280
but it was for sure on my mid-year.

02:12:08.340 --> 02:12:09.240
And I mean,

02:12:09.550 --> 02:12:13.900
what I thought most about the album was just how like intense the riffs were.

02:12:14.250 --> 02:12:15.400
Like it was just riff heavy.

02:12:15.560 --> 02:12:17.920
And I would say even more so on this new one,

02:12:19.060 --> 02:12:20.120
just like killer riffs.

02:12:21.280 --> 02:12:21.400
Yeah.

02:12:21.640 --> 02:12:21.720
Yeah.

02:12:21.820 --> 02:12:24.600
Almost like bolt thrower-esque riffs on there, man.

02:12:24.740 --> 02:12:24.800
Totally.

02:12:25.480 --> 02:12:25.740
I love,

02:12:25.810 --> 02:12:26.280
I love it.

02:12:26.340 --> 02:12:26.820
I think it's great.

02:12:26.980 --> 02:12:27.900
I love the last one too.

02:12:27.900 --> 02:12:28.780
And I think Matt's right.

02:12:28.830 --> 02:12:32.340
I think he had a mid-year and it was like an honorable mention on my mid-year.

02:12:32.860 --> 02:12:34.240
So it didn't quite make my list,

02:12:34.340 --> 02:12:35.260
but this is a better album.

02:12:35.660 --> 02:12:35.740
Yeah.

02:12:37.000 --> 02:13:06.960
So just the production's better. The riffs are bigger. Yeah, I think it's terrific. The what's are bigger? Everything's bigger, George. Okay. The bolts are bigger. The bolts. All right. Well, cool. Then there's the next album. The new goat whore album. Angels Hung from the Arches of Heaven. It's their eighth album. And holy

02:13:07.000 --> 02:13:36.780
Shit. Am I right? Am I right? Come on. Back me up here. I think it's their best record. I really do. And I have, when we were talking about legacy bands before, and I mentioned people with bodies of work that are solid and go-hors. I'm always kind of willing to sing their praises. I just like them so much. And they took a real turn at carving out the eyes of God, and I kind of stayed on that path for a while. And there's still a lot of that on this one. I love that album. But I also added this big, epic, oh, there's a couple big,

02:13:37.000 --> 02:14:06.280
kind of sloshy, do me things. Not doom's not the right word for it. And I'll say this, they used their pandemic time wisely. I honestly think they sat down and Sammy came up with like all the best reps he could fucking find. There's different vocal styles on this record. This is a contender for record of the year for sure. And I like Gordor Anywhere, so I try to be cautious with bands alike and not just like shit myself over every new release they do. But this thing is fucking a bomb. It is.

02:14:06.400 --> 02:14:36.340
I told John BT about it. And I'm in a short case, he's a huge fan of that. He can't stop listening to it. I think I've listened to this eight times now. It's going to keep going. Yeah. Fuck yeah. I love this record, dude. Yeah, I agree. I don't know if I like it more than Blood for the Master, but it's pretty up there. And the name of the album, Angels Hung from the Arches of Heaven, is so good. Love that title. Yeah, I think it's terrific. I have it on vinyl, and I just got it on vinyl. So I'm going to spin it probably on Monday.

02:14:37.580 --> 02:15:04.580
So I'm looking forward to that. But yeah, I think it's right. I think they took the time and just really carefully crafted it, you know, but it doesn't, it doesn't sound, it's not mechanical and it's delivery, you know, it's, it's, it's got a lot, so much energy and life to it. You know, I saw Goat Horror not too long ago and they played a couple songs from the album. They were really good live as well. So yeah, I think it's a, it's a really strong album this year. I agree.

02:15:05.340 --> 02:15:06.520
You know, there's the big,

02:15:07.030 --> 02:15:08.340
do me epic ones, especially,

02:15:08.960 --> 02:15:09.240
especially,

02:15:10.320 --> 02:15:11.480
especially the last one,

02:15:11.580 --> 02:15:11.860
which is called,

02:15:12.020 --> 02:15:13.640
and I was delivered from the wounded tradition.

02:15:15.120 --> 02:15:17.820
And I don't think you will have listened to this record necessarily,

02:15:17.980 --> 02:15:18.100
John,

02:15:18.240 --> 02:15:18.860
but they,

02:15:19.360 --> 02:15:19.900
even though it's,

02:15:20.140 --> 02:15:20.340
there's,

02:15:20.750 --> 02:15:20.980
you know,

02:15:21.020 --> 02:15:21.360
more or less,

02:15:21.440 --> 02:15:21.700
well,

02:15:21.770 --> 02:15:22.760
they are an extreme metal band.

02:15:23.380 --> 02:15:24.580
They have the,

02:15:24.680 --> 02:15:25.460
the big ones,

02:15:25.600 --> 02:15:26.960
the big emotional push,

02:15:27.920 --> 02:15:28.140
you know,

02:15:28.140 --> 02:15:30.140
kind of mid range songs instead of fresh.

02:15:30.240 --> 02:15:33.860
They kind of have all the excitement of like revelation mother from like

02:15:33.860 --> 02:16:03.840
Blizzard Blast and maybe even Diary of a Madman because Sammy comes from that place like you know he's our age and um I've always thought I would probably get along with that dude because the tape they play before they come out is like possessed venom blah blah blah and I know even that tape very cool it's just an extra x-factor to this one to an already really good band yeah and hats off to you for calling out Blood for the Master because that is my previously favorite one I am gonna go ahead and say I like this one better and I love Blood for the Master so

02:16:04.860 --> 02:16:05.220
So,

02:16:05.710 --> 02:16:05.800
so,

02:16:05.800 --> 02:16:06.560
hats off to these guys,

02:16:06.740 --> 02:16:06.840
man.

02:16:06.850 --> 02:16:06.940
They,

02:16:07.100 --> 02:16:08.240
they really knocked that out of the market.

02:16:08.820 --> 02:16:09.760
Did you listen to it,

02:16:09.900 --> 02:16:10.020
John?

02:16:11.240 --> 02:16:11.400
No.

02:16:12.060 --> 02:16:12.400
All right.

02:16:12.620 --> 02:16:13.120
I haven't yet.

02:16:13.220 --> 02:16:13.320
No.

02:16:13.740 --> 02:16:13.900
Okay.

02:16:14.000 --> 02:16:18.080
I have listened to so much fucking music lately.

02:16:18.320 --> 02:16:18.740
And I just,

02:16:19.740 --> 02:16:21.420
I listened to everything on the list,

02:16:22.310 --> 02:16:22.440
uh,

02:16:22.620 --> 02:16:23.660
that you put for new releases,

02:16:24.100 --> 02:16:26.460
not even counting my own personal releases.

02:16:26.960 --> 02:16:28.800
And the only one I didn't get to is good whore today.

02:16:29.400 --> 02:16:29.760
Unfortunately.

02:16:30.780 --> 02:16:30.880
Yeah.

02:16:31.000 --> 02:17:00.940
No matter whether you've been particularly attracted to them before or not, I think you're going to like this one. It's pretty amazing. Yeah. It's a strong fucking record. It doesn't Ben go to a lot of new vocal places this time. I feel like he does. He's always varied his stuff up, but he does a lot of different kinds of extreme singing on it. Yeah. And there's also some cool sound effects edited into it. There's some acoustic guitar on it. None of which are that important to us.

02:17:00.980 --> 02:17:30.540
It's just, and the last words of the record are, all life is lost. And it just echoes out into the, and it's perfect for this record. I feel like this might, I might need a J for this year. I'm thinking, looking at this list, I'm thinking, I don't know. It's looking pretty good. I don't know. You should listen to it. I'll eventually get to it. This has been, for me personally, I don't want to, I know Matt, you haven't said anything. I don't want to take up too much time on this one. I've, this, October has just been like spectacular from my perspective.

02:17:31.000 --> 02:17:59.440
So I haven't had a chance to get to everything yet. I know you guys are talking about other albums. I'm like, fuck, I can't even get to them. There's so much stuff that I personally like. I'm so far behind. It's ridiculous. I mean, I've been listening to nothing. And I mean, I did listen to the goat whore. And I did listen to the acid witch. And I've got some stuff in my what I'm listening to. But that's been like the last few days of like, oh, my God, catch up. So.

02:18:00.340 --> 02:18:30.300
Well, this is definitely, like, no joke. Let's just fucking lock it in. This is my album of the month, for sure. Yeah, mine too. Really? Okay, so I got two for you guys. All right, good. We're not going to be posting this until, what, April? There's still albums coming out that I really still have. There's so many good albums this month. This might be the best month, and I thought last month was really good. Well, dude, do you guys remember February? Has everyone even forgot about how all those albums came out? It was like 18 albums that month. This is

02:18:30.320 --> 02:19:00.200
That was a long time ago. That was like last year. No, and then Marcus was going on about September being an awesome one for him, you know, and I'm like, fuck, this year. Actually, I'm going to do it out of alphabetical order, but because my late part of the year is stronger than my personal part of the year. The new song record is awesome, dude. Just what I would have thought. Yeah. I don't think it's down a shade on this one, but it's great. I love that singer. I think they're such a talented band. It just came out. You've always talked about them though in the past, so. I like the early albums. I didn't like,

02:19:00.859 --> 02:19:28.599
the one with the dude in the space suit. That one and the one after that. It's a little crudgy. I did listen to a little bit of this one. I'm going to go back for more. Honestly, before you do that, you should go listen to the last one, which is called The Mental Maury. I don't know about you guys. I'm just telling you right now. If an album was on my list at mid-year, it's nice seeing you. Yeah, I know.

02:19:30.340 --> 02:19:59.540
How about just starting over? Wow. The second half of this year was like the first half of last year. It's just so many good albums. And it's nothing. I've never had good albums in that first half too, but you're right. There were, but there's just, oh my God. I could easily do a top 40 this year for sure. Well, I mean, I always do, but I mean. Well, I'll have a lot of honorable mentions and anyone that was on my list that ends up in honorable mentions, that's good. That's good to mention them still, but man.

02:20:01.000 --> 02:20:30.300
Philly's tied it up. Yeah, I was gonna say. 4-4 in the fourth, bottom of the fourth inning. We'll, at some point, when we get to something on this podcast, you'll be able to join us. So, yeah. So, Matt, Kotor, any thoughts? You know, I only spun it once. I like what I heard, but it definitely needs kind of a more in-depth listen. I, too, am a blood for the master guy. That has always been my go-to for them, but definitely look

02:20:30.340 --> 02:20:59.960
Looking forward to spending more time with a new one. Excellent. Is it bitchy enough? It should be. All those angels hanging from those arches, man. That's pretty bitchy. All right. So the next one, you may have to correct my pronunciation. There's like two of them and I don't know which one's right. I don't either. I'm going with Parias. Yeah. Or Parias. I don't know. Parias seems. Parias.

02:21:01.120 --> 02:21:01.680
Yeah.

02:21:02.940 --> 02:21:04.660
Or Europeanizing it now, Mark.

02:21:04.680 --> 02:21:06.940
This is the age of the Paris.

02:21:07.600 --> 02:21:07.740
Yeah.

02:21:08.180 --> 02:21:11.800
But it's P-A-R-I-U-S, if you need to know.

02:21:12.440 --> 02:21:16.580
And it's their third album called The Signal Heard Through Space.

02:21:16.940 --> 02:21:18.580
They're a Philly prog metal band.

02:21:19.580 --> 02:21:27.460
And, you know, a couple of the other guys on here have been pretty into these guys.

02:21:27.960 --> 02:21:28.400
I know.

02:21:29.480 --> 02:21:57.500
And I liked the last album a lot. And I know Will likes it too. And Will did too, yeah. Yeah, and I've been like, eh, okay, whatever. But this one, I'm all in on. And ironically, it's even more proggy. Yeah, it's a complete shift from the last album. Yeah, but I think it's pretty awesome. And I told John this, and a big part of that is because I feel like there's a lot of Voivet in this. Yeah, we were going back and forth about the influences, and I was like, really?

02:21:59.480 --> 02:22:28.040
again and I wrote, remember I wrote back, I was like, I hear it. Now I hear it. But there's a, I mean, what did I, remember I told you, I hear Dream Theater from Awake. I hear Rush. I think Jay mentioned he heard Rush on one of the songs a little bit. A lot of influence. They dropped the melodic death stuff. There's a little bit of that. I think his vocals are more Voivod-ish this time as opposed to the melodic death vocals. And they're all old enough to be my kids.

02:22:29.480 --> 02:22:59.360
Young Enough, rather. Let's be honest about this. And we've run into them at shows. We ran into them at Decibel, I think, at one point. Didn't we? One of the guys at Decibel, I think, ran into us. I wasn't there for that. I think it was just Jay, Will, and myself. Maybe. I love it. I mean, it's good. It is. It's a prog metal album. It's very ambitious compared to their last album for them, and I think that's a good thing. I like when bands go out on the reach. Yeah.

02:22:59.500 --> 02:23:29.220
I think it's a contender. You know, it's good. I mean, I like it. And like I said, John, are you taking me? Oh my God. I thought maybe you were wanking at some cause you were like, Oh, I got to turn the camera down. I show you. I mean, fuck. We're all friends here. Exactly. It's like I knew this camp on this podcast. Oh, my, this damn, my, uh, the camera. Oh, you're making me ill. Yeah. Sorry. It's like a strobe light on a show.

02:23:31.739 --> 02:23:59.400
I don't want to have to pull out the tripod to put it on because then it's like in my face. Will's not here. Tripod's not here. That's true. All righty then. Let's give Jay a moment to return and possibly contribute since he's been gone for half an hour. I think Jay, I don't know. I'm interested to see what Jay thinks about this album because he like,

02:23:59.500 --> 02:24:00.480
the previous album.

02:24:06.000 --> 02:24:07.240
Do you want to talk about that at all?

02:24:09.420 --> 02:24:11.080
It's different than the last one, that's for sure.

02:24:11.980 --> 02:24:17.320
I mean, it's, I don't like it as much as the last one, but I think it's because the last one was just more in my wheelhouse.

02:24:17.440 --> 02:24:20.240
I think this is a talented group of kids, by the way, and they are kids.

02:24:21.080 --> 02:24:22.160
I guess they're older now, but.

02:24:23.200 --> 02:24:23.800
They're still kids.

02:24:24.140 --> 02:24:24.500
Still kids.

02:24:24.640 --> 02:24:25.420
I don't know what you're saying.

02:24:25.540 --> 02:24:27.940
I was just saying, I love it.

02:24:28.420 --> 02:24:57.720
I mean, but I did mention that this definite shift, they dropped a lot of the melodic death stuff that they were doing before, and the harsh vocals aren't there as much. I only listen to it once, and I will listen to it more, so I probably can't access any kind of, you know, authority on the thing. I like these guys in general, so I expect that it'll probably get a lot more playtime than me, but... So, I saw somebody's YouTube channel today, and they were talking about this album. Markisan this will resonate with you a little bit.

02:24:59.159 --> 02:25:28.000
And the guy who was doing this, because there's a thousand YouTube channels that you can watch now. And he made an interesting comment. He said he didn't get turned on to this band until one of the dudes from Half told him, dude, check this band out. And I know, Marcus, you're really big on the new Half album. The last two, I should say. And so he said, because the guy from Half told me to listen to him, I listened. I fucking love it. And I was like, that's kind of cool. All right. I like it.

02:25:28.899 --> 02:25:57.620
So it's nice how it how all these bands are supporting each other. I guess the point I was trying to make. Thou hast heard it. I listened to it once and it was too proggy for me, but it could be one of those I got to come back to if I am in the right mood. It's not immediate. There's nothing immediate about this. I'm you need to put some time in. You know, was a lot more immediate. Oh, without question. It just hit you. And it was short. This one's much. It's like 20 minutes longer. This album, I think so.

02:25:58.080 --> 02:26:27.860
And that's what I like with Prog. I like it to be really riff-forward and then the Prog is almost secondary. That's what I like. This one kind of puts it on front. So for me to get into albums like this, I have to spin it a lot more and I have to do it in a really quiet place or else I'm just not going to get into it. So I will spin it again. There were elements I liked of it for sure. But I don't know. I don't like albums.

02:26:28.060 --> 02:26:29.640
that kind of just throw everything in there.

02:26:30.280 --> 02:26:30.980
And it kind of.

02:26:31.410 --> 02:26:32.900
It doesn't feel cohesive to me.

02:26:33.080 --> 02:26:34.400
And I don't like that.

02:26:34.610 --> 02:26:38.160
I really appreciate the musicianship on it.

02:26:38.280 --> 02:26:39.460
Obviously super talented,

02:26:39.680 --> 02:26:42.420
but those albums are always hard for me to get into.

02:26:42.840 --> 02:26:43.880
And I've got to,

02:26:44.540 --> 02:26:48.380
I will spend more time with it because I don't want to like.

02:26:49.620 --> 02:26:49.780
Yeah.

02:26:49.960 --> 02:26:50.740
Just discount it.

02:26:51.240 --> 02:26:52.280
I don't want to discount it.

02:26:52.340 --> 02:26:56.020
I don't want to be biased towards things that are very proggy.

02:26:56.120 --> 02:26:56.500
You know what I mean?

02:26:56.600 --> 02:27:26.580
Because I obviously like progmental. With that said, it's not like some avant-garde weird shit. It's not that at all. They touch on some of the 90s. I'd be interested to ask them, if we ran into them again, what the influence was. Because, George, I do hear the VoIPO vocals. Now I hear some Dream Theater-esque stuff in there. I'd just be curious what their influence. It's very 90s progmental influence, at least to

02:27:26.620 --> 02:27:27.080
my ears.

02:27:27.280 --> 02:27:27.700
Yeah, it is.

02:27:27.770 --> 02:27:27.900
Yeah.

02:27:28.140 --> 02:27:29.840
But with their style, with their sound.

02:27:30.160 --> 02:27:32.120
So, and again, they're kids.

02:27:33.060 --> 02:27:35.420
And I know that's been, I'm not saying that to be insulting.

02:27:35.540 --> 02:27:36.460
You've been saying that for years.

02:27:36.710 --> 02:27:39.580
They probably can vote now and maybe even drink.

02:27:39.800 --> 02:27:41.360
They can drink beers finally with us.

02:27:41.660 --> 02:27:43.440
That makes it sound like they're seven years old.

02:27:43.740 --> 02:27:43.860
Yeah.

02:27:44.260 --> 02:27:44.720
No, no.

02:27:45.040 --> 02:27:45.840
They're eight, Marcus.

02:27:46.120 --> 02:27:46.760
I did it straight.

02:27:47.020 --> 02:27:47.760
They're prodigies.

02:27:48.360 --> 02:27:48.480
Yeah.

02:27:48.700 --> 02:27:49.800
No, I'll tell you this.

02:27:49.960 --> 02:27:51.360
When we met him, it was at this fall.

02:27:51.640 --> 02:27:51.720
Yeah.

02:27:51.820 --> 02:28:19.980
Okay, so if you imagine, yeah, he like gave me this hug. I thought he cracked my back in half. I mean, it's just no, it's nice to see younger musicians who obviously are not that young, but it's nice to see that. They're all young compared to us. Yeah. I remember when Perez came up. I assume they're from Philadelphia. Yes. Yes. Whatever happened to that other band from Philadelphia whose name I literally can't remember.

02:28:24.000 --> 02:28:51.740
There's like a thousand bands from Philadelphia. Is that their name? Remember that kid from high school you went to school with? I'm like, yeah, mom. All 800 of them? No, no, the guys who had, they were young guys. They got two full lengths out. We all like them. Crypt Sermon? Matt's wearing? No, no, no. They're kind of a death metal band. Kind of techy death metal. A little bit techy, but not super techy. Slightly old school.

02:28:51.820 --> 02:29:21.460
We all like them. They haven't done anything wrong. I'll find it. I'll take a look. Who's that band? Horrified? That seems wrong. Yeah, I think. Wait, hold on. What's the band I'm talking about, John? I don't know. I'm all confused. It begins with an H. From Philadelphia. Horrendous. Horrendous. Thank you. Horrendous. Yeah, they got a new album coming out next year. Do they? Horrified.

02:29:21.840 --> 02:29:51.520
I came over that shit. No, no, honestly, George, I was like, yeah, that's it. Clearly I'm not a fan, but. No, I like that. Horrify. We got to come over. They have actually, they're like a Philadelphia slash Northern Virginia band. Cause one of, I think one of the guys lives down. Yeah, I think so. He's got a studio down here. Actually, they, they actually have a new album coming out and it's like. I just played here. I just saw him. Yeah. Okay. So they're still out there. Oh God. Yeah. Only one guy is like super young. The bass.

02:29:51.640 --> 02:30:21.400
It's not that long since their last record, right? Two thousand years. Well, maybe possibly pre-COVID. 18, four years, man. Oh, shit. San Diego fucked shit up. Damn it, man. Oh, yeah. Hold up. Wait, George, right? Six, four, top of the fifth. San Diego with the lead. San Diego. Well, hey, the rate we're going, Will's going to be in and he'll be giving us a top five and his top five. The top five reasons why.

02:30:21.660 --> 02:30:51.500
The Padres can kiss my ass. We thought this was going to be a short cast. It's never short with us. No, why should it be? Well, it depends on who you're with. Well, I think I posted the appropriate meme today to everybody in the chat, which was a meme from Lord of the Rings as Frodo and Sam were getting ready to go in and dump that ring in the lava. And it just says, oh, yeah.

02:30:51.640 --> 02:31:21.360
It says 8 p.m. at the top. And it's them smiling at each other. It says, just one beer. And the next frame says, yeah, just one beer. And the third frame says 4 a.m. And it's Sam with Frodo on his shoulders. He passed out. And he's just carrying it through a fire. Well, you know, there's another one that's... That's our podcast. With that, I'm going to get a beer. There's another one that... I mean, actually, there's a bunch of them. There's one with Luke and Vader. There's, you know, where Luke is like with him.

02:31:21.640 --> 02:31:51.620
and they're in like a lift or something and it's like you know just one beer and looks like all right just one beer and then at the end and vader's like i'm such a terrible father because he's he's carrying him out because he's returning the jedi yeah return of the jedi yeah and uh yeah there's that and there's there's another one i i can't remember what it is uh but people keep making them with movies and it's really good i'm going on the record right now i'm going on a star wars sidetrack here because there's only three of us now that moment when he says no

02:31:51.620 --> 02:32:21.600
I'm your father is hands down the greatest moment of my life when it comes to movies oh yeah that fucking blew my mind the second greatest is you're all clear kid now let's blow this thing and go home yeah that's my second greatest moment ever yeah I mean that even now watching that like when the Millennium Falcon like flies in and he shoots that makes me tear up because it's just every time it's like I got your back bro and I even go all the way back where the other guys get shot first

02:32:21.620 --> 02:32:23.560
just to build up to that point.

02:32:24.360 --> 02:32:28.300
But there's still no greater moment than, no, I'm your father.

02:32:28.460 --> 02:32:29.940
You're just like, oh, fuck.

02:32:30.250 --> 02:32:32.400
My whole universe just blew up in one second.

02:32:32.760 --> 02:32:32.960
Yep.

02:32:34.060 --> 02:32:35.600
My brain is the Death Star.

02:32:36.350 --> 02:32:40.420
I got that third hand because it was the 70s, as you know.

02:32:40.420 --> 02:32:45.920
And I remember our parents were like, because before Star Wars was Star Wars, it was like, hey, there's this movie everybody's going to see.

02:32:46.040 --> 02:32:47.340
We should probably take the kids to see it.

02:32:47.940 --> 02:32:48.700
And we saw the commercials.

02:32:48.850 --> 02:32:50.140
We were like, oh, yeah, we got to talk to this.

02:32:50.680 --> 02:33:19.620
And then my parents were never like, they were funny parents. They're good people, but they would just sort of be like, Oh, you already saw a Star Wars movie. And so we didn't go see Empire Strikes Back. Yeah. And so, and I remember my neighbor told me, yeah, I don't think I saw it. I don't think I saw it until mid eighties or something. Wow. I mean, it was like on video. Outside of Blade Runner. It's my favorite sci-fi film of all time. Oh God. Yeah.

02:33:20.660 --> 02:33:50.640
The Empire wins. They kick everybody's ass. I want the bad guys to win once in a while, and they win on that. Yeah, that's where they win. Yeah, that's true. So, hey, I really recommend this new, which I know I already brought it up, but if anybody's got Disney+, the new Star Wars series is the bomb, man. Andor? Yeah. That's so good. It's funny because a bunch of people have been telling me how it's the greatest thing since the original trilogy. My sister wrote me this morning and actually said that, but one of my friends in

02:33:50.680 --> 02:34:10.860
Michigan that I went to go see a couple weeks ago. He's like, this is the most boring thing I've ever seen. And he texted today, or no, he didn't text. He posted on Facebook and said, I am zero for seven making it through an episode of Andor Still Awake. And I'm like, you must be a complete idiot. I haven't seen any of them yet.

02:34:10.920 --> 02:34:19.940
Because it's got a lot of action. I like it for multiple reasons. The story is really good. And it also goes to some weird places. Star Wars is about homosexuality.

02:34:20.440 --> 02:34:22.060
and sex and stuff.

02:34:22.840 --> 02:34:23.940
Not that there's homosexuality.

02:34:24.040 --> 02:34:25.420
Nobody in Star Wars has wieners.

02:34:26.400 --> 02:34:28.160
And then there's, but, and that's just that.

02:34:28.240 --> 02:34:29.700
I mean, so it's grittier than a lot of them.

02:34:29.740 --> 02:34:35.400
But it's also the backstory to Rogue One, which I liked so much.

02:34:35.400 --> 02:34:36.640
I loved Rogue One, personally.

02:34:36.640 --> 02:34:41.060
And then in addition to that, it's Gabriel Luna, who I just fucking love that guy.

02:34:41.540 --> 02:34:41.780
Yeah.

02:34:42.199 --> 02:34:43.320
I'm loving it, man.

02:34:45.259 --> 02:34:47.760
It's more serious than The Mandalorian by the launch.

02:34:47.920 --> 02:35:17.900
I'm looking forward to it because what I like about it and I haven't watched any of it yet but what I like is that they're doing something different with new characters that's not like based on the you know the original lore because it seems like they always go back to that some of the names come up it's it's a but it's a spy story and it's a gritty spy story it's just like a continuation of Rogue One's game though it's a prequel that's why I like Rogue One so much is because it was tight it's a tie-in story but it was all different people yeah

02:35:18.920 --> 02:35:47.780
It's a new story with new characters that's not beholden to the past story. Well, the thing is, Rogue One was, it bridged a gap for us to get back to that opening scene of Star Wars, the original film. And that goes back even farther. So this, John, is how Gary LeWitt becomes the guy he is. But it's really about how the Empire cracking down and becoming the Empire. Ah, fuck, man. I love it. Matt, you've been nodding your head.

02:35:49.040 --> 02:36:17.680
I've seen a few episodes, really dig it. Yeah. Star Wars universe is, for me, is still never going to be complete until they bring Thrawn in. Until he's brought in, I'm still never going to be happy. I like Thrawn. Thrawn's just a bad motherfucker. Oh, they brought him in the cartoon. Yeah, just sprinkle him in, you know. He's got three fucking full books with him, so. Yeah, those are good books. And in case you're bitching about the fact that we're talking about Star Wars instead of metal, Star Wars is fucking metal. Oh, God.

02:36:17.920 --> 02:36:18.640
Yeah, come on.

02:36:20.380 --> 02:36:21.500
I'm not even a Star Trek fan.

02:36:21.560 --> 02:36:23.520
If we were talking about Star Trek, that'd still be acceptable.

02:36:23.700 --> 02:36:25.080
It is also fucking metal.

02:36:25.840 --> 02:36:26.980
Called Hell Kitty Kitty.

02:36:28.399 --> 02:36:30.900
There's a kitty in a tank for all you kitty lovers.

02:36:31.340 --> 02:36:31.700
Look at this.

02:36:33.780 --> 02:36:35.020
That cat's pissed.

02:36:35.980 --> 02:36:37.100
Look at that one with the mohawk.

02:36:37.360 --> 02:36:37.500
Yeah.

02:36:38.800 --> 02:36:39.960
Hey, you're growing yours back.

02:36:40.360 --> 02:36:41.000
Another Belgian.

02:36:41.740 --> 02:36:43.340
I see the hawk is making a comeback.

02:36:43.380 --> 02:36:46.900
It was like Beavis and Butthead when John said that cat's pissed.

02:36:51.079 --> 02:37:16.580
Well, we're going to do Beavis and Butt-Head impersonations, but we got to get the Metalheads Butler on because he is the best. Metalheads Butler. Metalheads Butler. Literally, I'll call him up and the phone will ring and it'll just be dead silence and he'll just be like, uh, hello. I mean, literally, it's like Mike Judge. I'm like, I'm calling him. Dude, I love the new Beavis and Butt-Head. It's fucking,

02:37:17.720 --> 02:37:46.900
It's so good. It's so funny. The movie was hilarious. The new movie and now they have the series. Yeah, I haven't seen it yet. I haven't seen anything. He is Mike Judge. Just real quick is there's only one other person can get away with what he says. That's Tarantino. Literally Mike Judge could say whatever the fuck he wants. The guys from South Park to see whatever they want and no one gets pissed because they laugh. Good for them. Anyway. Yeah, gotta watch the movie. The new movie is

02:37:46.920 --> 02:38:16.800
So funny. Is that readily available? Because I know you have to. It was on Paramount. Paramount Plus. You gotta have the app for it. I got that. Because that's like where Star Trek is. Are we like to the eighth inning now of that game? Because we're moving pretty. It's a commercial now, but I don't think it is. I'd say we are in the eighth inning. I'm just poking fun at us. So, all right. We still have one more new release. I thought you got to that when I was having a beer. Nope, nope, nope. The last new release is the second album,

02:38:16.920 --> 02:38:45.900
from Strogoy called Viscera. And this is the UK Death, I don't know, is it Doomy? Death Doomy band? It's like Sludge, Crusty, Death. All kinds of shit. From Gregor McIntosh, as you know, from Paradise Lost. And anything he's doing, whether it's Valonfire, Paradise Lost, or Strogoy, it's pretty fucking cool. I like it a lot. Yeah, this is him, like, fully cutting loose.

02:38:46.920 --> 02:39:16.900
The Last Two Albums. I like this one. I just have to give it more time. But you like Early Paradise less. It's like that on steroids. Yeah, I thought it was good. I've only spun it once too. Like Death Metal steroids. I mean, it's... But not... It doesn't sound like that. It's still got that whole gothic dark... It's almost... He gets that shit, you know? Yeah, he gets the whole gothic dark vampiric kind of feel, you know? Yeah. Yep. So...

02:39:16.940 --> 02:39:45.900
Check it out. Do it. And then I did the whole like Google pronunciation thing to figure out how to say that. And it's funny because half the time they're like, Stry, Goy. Or Strygoy, Strygy. Or, you know, it's all fucked up. And then you get somebody with an actual accent like, I am Russian. I say Strygoy. And I'm like, that's the one I'm going with. But it's not a Russian word though. So I don't care. It sounds Russian.

02:39:48.640 --> 02:39:49.080
Yeah.

02:39:51.080 --> 02:39:51.480
Strigoi.

02:39:53.259 --> 02:39:55.680
I believe it's like vampires, isn't it?

02:39:56.170 --> 02:39:56.800
The Strigoi.

02:39:57.270 --> 02:40:01.480
So that's more of like a Romanian kind of word.

02:40:02.460 --> 02:40:03.520
Eastern European anyway.

02:40:05.080 --> 02:40:05.420
Let's see.

02:40:05.810 --> 02:40:06.180
I don't know.

02:40:06.820 --> 02:40:07.240
Perhaps.

02:40:07.850 --> 02:40:08.520
I don't know what I mean.

02:40:08.820 --> 02:40:09.560
How does that feel?

02:40:10.100 --> 02:40:10.800
Feels dark.

02:40:11.080 --> 02:40:11.720
Oh, here we go.

02:40:11.800 --> 02:40:41.640
There we go. Strigoi in Romanian mythology are troubled spirits that are said to have risen from the grave. They are attributed with the abilities to transform into an animal, become invisible, and to gain vitality from the blood of their victims. Brandt Stoker's Dracula has become the modern interpretation of the Strigoi through their historic links with vampirism. So this is a supernatural episode. Yeah. Yeah, exactly. Awesome. I like it. Bring it in. Let's do an episode.

02:40:41.820 --> 02:41:09.680
Hey, have you watched the new show, John? All right. Are we going to go there? I haven't seen it yet. I haven't watched it. All right. So if you're a Supernatural fan, if you're a fan of what Dean and Sam do, like we all are, some of us at least are, I'm going to tell you right now, it is not following the storyline. It's a new storyline. Same characters, but they reinvent them.

02:41:11.020 --> 02:41:39.600
I'm not too keen on one character. I think he's just too over the top. I don't have a problem with who he is. He's just too over the top for that period for me personally. But I'm going to give it its due. I'm going to kind of wait and see what happens. And I'm just going to assume that Chuck has not destroyed this universe yet. And that's what this is. Okay. Put that in context. If you're a Supernatural fan, you know what that means. It does.

02:41:39.760 --> 02:42:09.320
Shuck hasn't found this planet Earth yet. So it's interesting. Something happens at the end of the first episode and you're just like, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh. So. Okay. I'm not kidding. I'm not kidding. You're just like, yes. Yeah, I was going to wait for a few to build up and then watch them. We are going to just, because it's supernatural, the universe, we're going to give it its due. Bye.

02:42:09.760 --> 02:42:38.980
It could be better. I mean, well, remember Supernatural, when it started, it wasn't a very good show in the beginning. It got truly better. Yeah, but they changed the storyline, though. Yeah. That's the problem I have. So there's got to be a reason why they changed the storyline. Star Wars has never done that. Yeah, but you know what? For Supernatural, you just can't fuck with that storyline. All right. You just can't. John, can we get a score update real quick? Yeah, hold on. I got to get my deep voice.

02:42:42.479 --> 02:43:09.440
Bob the sixth or Bob the fifth tied six six. Whoa. That's a back and forth. If they get to the next inning, what will it be, John? The seventh inning. No. Oh, actually sixth inning. Six, six, six. The number of the Phillies. So nobody can score for the next inning and a half anymore. Everyone can score for the seventh inning. Will, we're going to get you just in time for what you're listening to.

02:43:11.079 --> 02:43:39.720
All right. All right. Let's blow this fucking taco stand right now. Thunder. Thunder. Thunder. How much would it cost to get Michael Buffer to do our Thunderdome for us? That was pretty good, though. For the 20 fans listening worldwide. Metal Thunderdome. Jay, it's all you, buddy. All right. Well, first of all, I have to confess that I

02:43:39.760 --> 02:44:09.360
and to choose records I want to make people listen to. So having said that, I went with an interesting combo this time. Two records released in 1983, one by Black Sabbath, one by Motorhead. They have some things in common because they are both represented a bit of an artistic turn for the bands, if you will. At least they did something quite different from the previous record and or records. They are both contained lineups that were in, that made one record,

02:44:09.480 --> 02:44:39.440
and that was it and then they moved on to a different lineup so they and they both had people from well-known other bands that had come into the band so in black sabbath ian gillen came in as the singer and then motorhead brian robertson who was a guitarist and finn lizzie came in and again both made one record with the band um they are both i think in in their moment were kind of looked down upon and in some instances

02:44:39.460 --> 02:45:09.440
This is still looked down upon, but also both with diehard fans of both bands are now records that people frequently look back on and say, that was way better than I thought it was. And some people even start to say, it's like my favorite. So it's Black Sabbath is Born Again and Motorhead's Another Perfect Day. You know, I was reading about it and while the critics panned it, Born Again was actually a hit. It's all well. Because they had Ian Gillen, it was a super group and everybody wanted to see what

02:45:09.480 --> 02:45:10.060
Yeah.

02:45:11.739 --> 02:45:15.660
Both are produced a little funny, honestly, compared to the previous records.

02:45:15.800 --> 02:45:16.740
Shitty is the word.

02:45:17.700 --> 02:45:19.140
Both, I think, have bitchin' covers.

02:45:21.199 --> 02:45:22.900
And I like both records.

02:45:23.220 --> 02:45:27.200
Personally, I think they're both super strong albums from these bands' catalogs.

02:45:28.220 --> 02:45:30.140
And I think that's enough of a preamble.

02:45:31.050 --> 02:45:33.400
I'm interested to hear what you guys think and what you thought.

02:45:33.600 --> 02:45:38.760
I'm curious which way you're going to go, because I can see you going either way on this one.

02:45:39.800 --> 02:46:07.280
Two bands I love dearly and Two Records I like a lot, you know, like both of them. I admit like there's I could say at times that like on some days Born Again is my favorite black Sabbath record, clearly or not. But not that many. So, but let's say I do I do love it. I think it's so good. But that stated must start with Marcus and see where you're at. Yeah, I got to be honest, Jay, going into this, I was not a big fan of either of these albums.

02:46:07.500 --> 02:46:37.320
And that's the first time that's happened for me on Thunderdome. But I do love the pairing because it demonstrates how bringing in a new band member, like you mentioned, can sometimes completely alter the sound and the dynamics in the band. So well done on picking good examples of bad band choices. So I'll start with Born Again. I do dig the kind of spacey doom on this Sabbath record, but the production, as George mentioned,

02:46:37.500 --> 02:46:43.280
It's just so muddy. It's pretty terrible. If there was ever an album begging for

02:46:43.500 --> 02:46:49.480
remastering or remixing, it's definitely this one. It needs a remix. Remix without question. Remix for sure.

02:46:49.520 --> 02:46:53.640
I agree. But more than that, Ian Gillen just doesn't work for me

02:46:53.820 --> 02:46:57.700
as a singer on this record. I remember playing this record when it came out

02:46:58.340 --> 02:47:01.980
and all I could think was, fuck, I wish Dia was still fronting the band.

02:47:03.720 --> 02:47:06.540
Now don't get me wrong. I think Ian Gillen is a good singer.

02:47:07.100 --> 02:47:36.540
But just the wrong fit for Sabbath? Vocally? Even as a visual presence on stage? So I think he's even come out and said he's the worst Black Sabbath singer they've ever had. Well, if you've seen the story about how he ended up doing this, it's pretty funny. Right. Did you want to relay that, George? Sure. So, you know, they're both Brits. They were hanging out at the pub and, you know, tossing a few bags.

02:47:36.620 --> 02:48:05.760
as rock stars are wont to do. And the morning after, Ian Gillan gets an angry call from his manager going, why didn't you tell me you were going to do this? And he's like, what are you talking about? And he's like, you joined Black Sabbath. And he's like, what? Because they got drunk together and asked him to join the band. And he was like, yes. And he didn't remember it the next morning. Is that like everybody on the podcast?

02:48:06.000 --> 02:48:06.420
Yes.

02:48:08.160 --> 02:48:08.400
Right.

02:48:08.550 --> 02:48:09.640
So yeah, good stories.

02:48:09.910 --> 02:48:13.280
And they got along great, apparently, when they were doing this album.

02:48:13.440 --> 02:48:14.700
Yeah, and I think they're still good friends.

02:48:15.300 --> 02:48:15.380
Yeah.

02:48:16.000 --> 02:48:17.480
So, okay.

02:48:17.990 --> 02:48:24.600
So after listening to this record, I definitely agree that, you know, he just wasn't the best singer for Sabbath.

02:48:24.900 --> 02:48:27.740
And I just find this record hard to get through.

02:48:27.740 --> 02:48:29.100
I think it's mostly the production.

02:48:29.290 --> 02:48:34.620
If they did a remix, I would definitely want to revisit it and see if I would enjoy it more.

02:48:35.280 --> 02:49:05.240
But really, in this form, like the only thing I really like about this record is the album cover, which has that horned blood red demon baby with a yellow cat eye. Which has its own story. Talons and fangs. And he looks like he's intent on clawing his way back into some unsuspecting mother's womb, which is. So for this Thunderdome, I'm definitely going to go with Another Perfect Day by Motorhead. It's like you said, it's the.

02:49:05.280 --> 02:49:34.660
The Only Studio Album with Robbo from Thin Lizzy on it. And he just made it sound different than other Motorhead albums. It just, it's, I'd say it's more tuneful. It's more melodic. I don't remember liking this album a ton when it dropped, but revisiting it this week, I found that I enjoyed it a lot. It rocks. It boogies. Robbo's guitar work is, it's diamond shiny. And I love the contrast with the,

02:49:34.860 --> 02:50:03.380
with Lemmy's gruff vocals in it, I really enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would. And that was a surprise, because I was like, man, I really don't like these albums. This is going to be like torture to listen to these and then pick something. I found that I would like to revisit this Motorhead album more often, because it's different, but I just, I think it works really well. It's better than you remembered it. It's nothing else, yeah.

02:50:04.200 --> 02:50:33.740
Yeah. Which by the way, I had that experience with it too. The first time I heard it, which was in the eighties as I am, but somewhere between now and then it was probably the nineties. I revisited it. And I was like, Oh, this is really good. Yeah. And I read some stuff about it where, uh, you know, Lemmy's like, Oh, his style didn't really fit in with the band. And on stage he would wear like satin shorts and slip on shoes, which pissed Lemmy off. And he thought he was doing it on purpose. And, um, he said the recording was like,

02:50:34.240 --> 02:50:55.360
for him because it took Robbo like 17 hours to do one guitar track or something. So it's really interesting that it was such a torturous process. But I do really like the album as opposed to the Sabbath album, which they got along really well with Gillen. But I feel like it didn't work.

02:50:55.500 --> 02:51:25.340
Well, you know, Gillen, they got along because Gillen wasn't in there with him, with them, because they were all night people and they would record at night and he would come in in the morning and see what they did and he would record his vocals on his own. Also, at the heart of the Motorhead record, and there was not like it's different on the Black Seventh record, but those are all lemmy compositions, you know what I mean? Like he wrote the song, so it's still a Motorhead record. It's not like... But it's embellished by... Completely change it, you know? I'm sure he contributed some riffs,

02:51:25.340 --> 02:51:55.100
No, it still sounds like a motorhead, but it just, it has a vibrancy to it. It just, it's the guitar work sounds different. I like that. Forgot what it sounded like. So anyways, going with motorhead. So there you go. First shot fired. Matt. You know, I don't know that I had up until this week had heard that motorhead album. So I, I really only had the experience with born again. And I mean, I don't want to sound like an elitist dick, but.

02:51:55.340 --> 02:52:25.020
If you're on this podcast, you're an elitist dick. If you're not Oz or D-D-O, I'm not super interested in that kind of Sabbath. And I don't disagree that Born Again's a good album. I actually totally forgot that Tony Martin made so many albums with Sabbath. It just feels like such a weird stretch of time. I just think of the seven-star cover.

02:52:25.360 --> 02:52:55.300
featuring Tony Iommi. Which was supposed to be a solo album. Yep. But just like for them to have that period of time, because like when I look at those first six albums, it's like, you know, I mean, it's untouchable. And also the duo albums, untouchable to me. And so when you look at these things, it's like, oh, man, I didn't realize you guys had kind of that period of time. But with Motorhead, you know, Lemmy is, his voice is, it's unnoticed.

02:52:55.380 --> 02:53:25.320
It's timeless. It's I mean, he could be singing about a total eclipse of the heart and it would be Lemmy and Bonnie Tyler. And I would I would bang my head and love it. And so yeah, this the the Another Fine Day does sound a bit different. But I think with it still being Lemmy and feeling like Motorhead versus the Born Again, it's Sabbath. But to me, it's not the Sabbath that I know and love. Whereas, you know, it's the Motorhead album is it's still Lemmy. It's still Motorhead. It's

02:53:25.360 --> 02:53:53.400
I love. So, motorhead for me. This is interesting. This is the way I expected this to go at all. So far, very interesting. Sorry, John, you want to give us a quick score update before you go? Eight, six Phillies, bottom of the fifth. It's going to be a high score. Obviously, it already is, but. All right. John. All right. All right. So,

02:53:55.360 --> 02:54:25.320
Let's start with Black Sabbath Born Again. It's already been said, this production is absolute shit. Compared to the previous two albums, it's terrible. It's garbage. I hate to be that brutal about it, but the mid-80s got Sabbath hard. I mean, it's got that kind of tinny, popping drum sound, that kind of synthetic sound that just plagued

02:54:25.340 --> 02:54:31.360
so many albums in that period and i absolutely hate the fucking drums on this album i can't stand

02:54:31.360 --> 02:54:35.480
them which is interesting because bill ward's back in the band so it's actually three original

02:54:35.680 --> 02:54:41.240
members and an ian gillen singing so in the end you can kind of say all right so they just got a new

02:54:41.460 --> 02:54:51.260
singer but it's the actual band back together um with that said it has a feel of a continuation from

02:54:51.280 --> 02:55:21.240
I can hear Dio singing those songs. They're songs for him. What really, outside of the production that kills this album for me, is the tracking is terrible on this album. They put fucking Stonehenge second. It's a complete... Trash is a cool song. I actually like that song. And then you come in with Stonehenge, you're like, well, let's just shit on

02:55:21.280 --> 02:55:49.780
the tracking on this album. Let's just take all the fucking oomph out of the album right away. Should have been a track one so you could skip it. Well, how about just not have it on the album altogether? You know, and then Disturbing the Priest is next. And then what do we do? Let's have another fucking shit ass useless track because E5150 was so cool on Mob Rules, we have to have two on Born Again.

02:55:51.760 --> 02:56:21.020
It pisses me off listening to this album because the tracking's bad. Rearranging the songs and putting songs in certain places, you can keep some of those and it makes more sense. So for me, when I listen to this, I'm thinking, wow, production's bad. It does need to be remixed because there's a lot of stuff missing that we're probably not hearing that sounds cool. Some of the songs are very good. I don't have a problem so much with Ian Gillen singing. I could do with a few less screams from Made in Japan.

02:56:21.260 --> 02:56:23.780
on this album. I think his vocals are great on this album.

02:56:24.260 --> 02:56:26.460
You just need to be able to hear them.

02:56:27.000 --> 02:56:32.540
Yeah, he's amazing. He's at his peak form, but I don't need to hear the screams, though, in Sabbath.

02:56:32.990 --> 02:56:34.280
I need to hear them in Deep Purple.

02:56:34.910 --> 02:56:35.640
That was my issue.

02:56:36.250 --> 02:56:41.440
But with that said, it is an underrated album because there are some very good songs on this album.

02:56:42.240 --> 02:56:45.160
I just think that it needs to go.

02:56:45.570 --> 02:56:48.380
You know what? I don't even want Tony Omi working on this album.

02:56:48.390 --> 02:56:50.060
I want Steve Wilson working on this album.

02:56:50.110 --> 02:56:50.520
For sure.

02:56:51.000 --> 02:57:19.840
I want him in there saying, let me remix this album. Let me rearrange this album because he is really good in the studio for doing that. And I actually think that if that happened and like Markisan brought up about and George too, about the production, this could be a much different album. It could be a significantly better album because to be honest, some of the songs Ian Gillen sounds pretty good on. He just does. I agree that he's not the logical fit.

02:57:21.000 --> 02:57:50.920
But some of the songs work. I mean, Hotline kind of has a little bit of a deep purple feel to it. And in some spots. So just keep it warm. Yes. Well, without question, even the title track has a very deep purplish feel because it allows Ian Gill to kind of just when he can get those slower songs where he can go off. Duke can wail. There's no doubt. Now, I will say if I saw him on this tour, I want to see what the congas on stage. I'm not going to lie. I want to see him just with the hair flying him just banging.

02:57:52.121 --> 02:58:19.021
I'm down with that but so I and I kind of shit on the album but that said I did like some of the song off the album I think it is underrated because there are good good things about it it's just the production the mix the tracking it kills the album for them after mob rolls you go to this and you're like what happened so anyway so on a motorhead real quick I'm talking too much here

02:58:20.600 --> 02:58:48.980
This sounds like Motorhead. The same up-tempo songs are there. Simple kind of rock songs are there. But the production's slick. It's kind of polished. Really? I think the production sucks. No, no. What I mean is not so much. It just has a slick sound to it. It doesn't sound grimy. I didn't feel dirty after I listened to this album. I didn't feel like, oh, a Motorhead album. I got to take a shower. And after my shower, I'm going to go back and get a beer and listen to Motorhead.

02:58:49.479 --> 02:58:56.500
I didn't feel like that I felt like oh I'm kind of clean this is kind of you know no yes sure it's a

02:58:56.660 --> 02:59:19.000
production sucks on both albums this just had a kind of a polished feel maybe musically I get what you're saying it opens with a guitar lick and I'm like whoa where's that opening bass kind of thundering from Lemmy but the songs sound like Motorhead but they kind of go in their own lane they kind of like well we're on that three-lane highway but we're gonna jump in that

02:59:19.000 --> 02:59:24.800
an express lane for a little bit and do something a little different and so the guitar there's guitar

02:59:25.220 --> 02:59:30.740
solos everywhere on this album that don't match the traditional motorheads feel so if you're not

02:59:30.910 --> 02:59:37.120
looking for that you're not going to dig this there's some cool kind of rush-esque tones on this

02:59:37.430 --> 02:59:44.980
which is kind of weird because it's motorhead um but with all that said i felt like i did this a

02:59:44.980 --> 02:59:48.820
a little more to this album.

02:59:50.040 --> 02:59:53.280
Because I felt that some of the songs were more to my liking.

02:59:54.220 --> 02:59:58.320
So minus all the kind of thin Lizzy-ish type solos,

02:59:59.180 --> 03:00:03.200
I kind of liked this album more than Born Again.

03:00:03.740 --> 03:00:06.960
However, if Born Again had better remix and better tracking,

03:00:07.120 --> 03:00:08.140
I might like that one more.

03:00:08.780 --> 03:00:12.300
But in their current state, I'm going with Motorhead.

03:00:13.300 --> 03:00:41.740
Who knew we had so many fans? Yeah. And I like Sabbath more than Motorhead, personally. Although I love Iron Fist, though. So, I mean, if this was Iron Fist, I'd be like, yeah, fuck that. I fucking really like this Motorhead album. I'm like, wow, I didn't realize how much I like it. But I will tell you, if Sabbath had done things better, I'd probably, there's a few songs like, I love Trash. I think it's a cool song. It is. Personally, it really is. So.

03:00:42.920 --> 03:00:43.560
All right.

03:00:43.920 --> 03:00:45.120
Too bad the production's trash.

03:00:45.520 --> 03:00:46.100
Oh, God.

03:00:46.280 --> 03:00:46.780
It's horrible.

03:00:50.119 --> 03:00:51.900
So I like both these albums.

03:00:54.140 --> 03:00:57.880
I hate the production on both these albums, but as albums, I like them both.

03:00:59.240 --> 03:01:05.600
Actually, I'm going to stop you there real quick and just say I agree because I'm surprised you guys brought up the production on the Motorhead record.

03:01:05.920 --> 03:01:06.280
Not surprised.

03:01:06.520 --> 03:01:07.980
I don't think it's the production on the record.

03:01:08.240 --> 03:01:09.980
It's the amount of effects on Robbo's guitars.

03:01:11.640 --> 03:01:40.280
That's why it's kind of dirty sounding. It kind of buries Lemmy. It's like the vocals are kind of buried underneath all of that. Yeah, the guitars are really bright, I thought, on the album, as opposed to kind of dirty, grungy. Not grungy, but you know what I mean. They're shiny. That's like what I said. Yeah, they are. They really are. It's kind of like, whoa, who turned the light on? Kind of guitar lick. So anyway, sorry, George. Yeah, it's cool. So let me, Lemmy.

03:01:40.280 --> 03:01:48.860
Let me talk about let me uh so the black sabbath album this was my third black

03:01:49.180 --> 03:01:54.420
sabbath album the first one i got was uh we sold ourselves a rock and roll which was of course like

03:01:54.500 --> 03:02:00.360
compilation of ozzy stuff the second thing i got was mob rules which was dia and the third album i got was

03:02:00.600 --> 03:02:07.300
born again which was in gillen really and so i was very confused as a child um i would be confused

03:02:07.300 --> 03:02:37.100
But I got, you know, the other two were, the first two were out before I came along. And then Born Again was the current album that was out and I bought it and I was just like, this fucking looks evil. It's fucking badass. And I got it and I dug it, you know, at the time. And so looking back on it now, some of the songs, there's some good songs and then there's some songs that are pretty like,

03:02:37.180 --> 03:03:06.860
Nah, not so much. You know, the instrumental stuff is like whatever. Hotline, Keep It Warm. Like John said, they're decent deep purple songs, not really Black Sabbath songs. But the songs that I do like, Trashed, Disturbing the Priest, Zero the Hero, are stone cold classics as far as I'm concerned. Yeah. Okay. So it's like, it's more of like a really good EP.

03:03:10.620 --> 03:03:36.920
And then you've got the Motorhead. Okay. Well, I, you know, I love Motorhead. Lemmy is God. And as Jay mentioned, both of these albums are sort of an anomaly in the catalog. You know, Ian Gillen being the only, his only album and, and Robertson's only album with Motorhead. And this, listening to this, it is,

03:03:37.200 --> 03:04:07.120
Definitely a departure from the Motorhead sound. It is way more like Rocky as opposed to like Punky. There's a lot of riffage that wouldn't normally be. I mean, it's like clean arpeggiated chords like on I Got Mine, the beginning of that, you know, and I'm like, okay, well, this is not what I would expect from Motorhead. This is very different from what I expect from Motorhead. And the whole album was very different, except for one song.

03:04:11.199 --> 03:04:37.120
Yeah, for sure. There's another one too, actually. Go ahead, George. Yeah, that's fine. Another one I consider to be right. But for the most part, it was interesting because it was a different take on Motorhead. It was a little more commercially viable for the time, a little more pretty in the guitar. I mean, there were like solos and stuff, you know?

03:04:37.380 --> 03:05:07.060
A lot of wankery going on in this album that is not really what I come to expect from Motorhead. So it was unusual. But I do dig the album. But ultimately, I have to go Black Sabbath because, like I said, those songs that are good are Stone Cold Classics. Those three songs are just killer. They really are. While I dig some of the stuff on here, particularly Tales of Glory, and I got mine. Marching Off Tour was the other one I was going to mention. Okay, yeah.

03:05:07.200 --> 03:05:36.040
One Track Mind was really cool. It was very different. Actually, my favorite song on the record is Back at the Funny Farm. It's a great song. Yeah, it was a good opener. Minus a little guitar lick before Lemmy. But yeah, it's like this is Motorhead and it's Motorhead not at their best. But at the same time, it's decent Motorhead. And it's an interesting take on Motorhead.

03:05:37.200 --> 03:06:06.720
I love what Ian Gillen does on Disturbing the Priest, Zero the Hero, and the title track, Born Again. It's like Purple Rain, but Black Sabbath with Ian Gillen. That's what I got to say about that. Does the cheese stand alone, Jay? Three motorheads and one Black Sabbath. We lose either way. I lose either way.

03:06:06.800 --> 03:06:11.360
I like both records they both have their faults there's no question about that but

03:06:13.680 --> 03:06:16.240
I think the Motorhead is more consistently good throughout

03:06:17.579 --> 03:06:21.640
I'll give you that too I was going to say that I felt it was more consistently good

03:06:22.300 --> 03:06:23.080
and I do like it

03:06:24.779 --> 03:06:26.560
there's really good songs on there and one of them

03:06:26.950 --> 03:06:28.580
Back at the Funny Farm is my favorite one

03:06:29.130 --> 03:06:31.080
which also includes the lyric

03:06:31.220 --> 03:06:33.580
I really like this jacket but the sleeves are much too long

03:06:33.710 --> 03:06:34.580
which is super funny

03:06:37.259 --> 03:07:04.360
And so a couple other things here real quick. I know the Black Sabbath is weird. I totally get that. It's really weird. But also I have to call it my favorite lyric from that album, which is the gray and plastic retard. It's all floating in circles. This is from the song Born Again. A couple things about that tour. The live stuff sucks. Even though I agree with you, John, like visually,

03:07:04.580 --> 03:07:34.200
I'd like to see that, but I've heard him singing, you know, Children of the Grave, and it's not good. No, he doesn't fit at all for that. He doesn't fit. And then also, I don't know if you guys know this, but the inspiration for the tiny Stonehenge on Spinal Tap was because they did a tour for this. They brought a Stonehenge that was too big to fit on almost any stage they played, so they were dwarfed by this thing. So Spinal Tap did something really funny by reversing that and making it so small that they dwarfed it.

03:07:35.420 --> 03:08:02.960
Have you been to Stonehenge before? Just that whole thing. And I believe they even had a midget, or excuse me, a dwarf dressed up as the baby, running along with the lady to make or something for the first few things of the tour. Just not a great look. No. No, that stated, I bought this, honest truth, I bought this record, Born Again, on the same day that I bought Venom Black Metal. Oh, man.

03:08:03.000 --> 03:08:31.600
And I was a huge Black Sabbath fan already, blah, blah, blah. And I guess I was just open-minded enough to let them do whatever they were going to do. And to me, it worked perfectly well with Black Mile. I was like, this is this weird-sounding, shittily-productive album produced, produced, productorated. We've come up with a whole new lexicon. Producerized. I feel like we're the man magma.

03:08:33.020 --> 03:09:02.980
The Atmosphere on that record is so murky that I love it. To me, it's like theater. And I honestly think that Disturbing the Priest, despite my deep love for Deep Purple and Black Sabbath, is one of Ian Gillen's best performances of his whole career. He's outstanding on the album. It would be top three for me. And you're right, John, he was at the height of his power. He really was. So whatever he brought to the table was going to be bitching. Also, his vocal performance on Born Again is

03:09:03.979 --> 03:09:29.160
Outstanding, the title track. And honestly, I think those are the two best songs on the record. I think a lot of it's filler, but I think those two songs, plus Trash Just Good, Zero, The Hero's Good, are so strong that to me it's still better than the Modern Night record. So, believe it or not, I will just love Morning Guy. I think it's such a good record. I totally recognize it as, it probably should have been called something else, besides Black Sabbath.

03:09:30.820 --> 03:10:00.740
In that context, I'm understanding that my brain was being twisted by black metal. And so production was an iffy concept for me for a few minutes. And because I was getting into the underground stuff, I just thought it was this weird spooky record that I would put on late at night. Well, you know, back in 83, the production sounded spooky. Now it just sounds shitty. Right on both accounts. Totally, dude. Okay. So I go,

03:10:00.800 --> 03:10:29.160
I'm going born again, which means it's 2-3 right now. Come on, Will. I like both. I would also say, first off, I'll find it. There is a reproduced version of this out there, and what it is, is it's unproduced. They went and took all the extra filters and shit that are on that record, and it's basically just like a really strong blues rock record somehow. You'll see. I'll find it. I'll send it to you. Hey, Jay, just curious. What do you feel about the tracking, though? I just feel like... Horrible. Horrible.

03:10:33.899 --> 03:11:00.760
I always feel like Hotline should be second on the album. I don't have a problem with, I think, no, I like it the way it is. The Dark is the other one. Yeah, I can't stand Stonehenge. I mean, Trash, you're kind of upbeat, and I just feel like you come in right off, and you just go to this kind of weird, I don't know, I can't hear Stonehenge without thinking of Spinal Tap, and it just ruins it right there.

03:11:00.820 --> 03:11:30.780
there and they're just like oh fuck you know and if if you're a spinal tap fan that whole diatribe about spinal tap and 18 inches or 18 feet and like you said the little person dances the two little people dancing around it just kills the album for me and i'm just like fuck this should open up the second out second side the b side of the album for those of us who still remember vinyl when it came out originally came out not now originally that should like that should have been like the opening to the

03:11:30.820 --> 03:11:59.860
the second side of the album. Just for me. So many problems with that record. And it should be a thousand times better than what it is. I know. I wish they would come and remix it. Reorder it. To me, it sounds like a record that was recorded in the basement of a dungeon. I'm perfectly happy with that because of the weird cover and the presentation. And by the way, Ian Gilliam is a fantastic lyricist. And that's true throughout his career.

03:12:00.000 --> 03:12:29.940
And like some of the lyrics on the part are so good. Nobody's mentioned Digital Bitch. And I kind of like that one too. That's a Sharon Osbourne song, isn't it? That's what is said to be about her. Yeah. And it may be true, I don't know. I think they directed at her. But anyway, this whole exercise was intended because that's, so we come into records like this with the weight of all the great things these guys have done. And it's hard to set them aside and go, well, here's this other weird thing.

03:12:29.980 --> 03:12:59.440
thing, what do I think of it? Especially if it's put out under the same name, you know, which neither of these probably should have been. Well, it's kind of funny because it's three Black Sabbath original members. That's what's so strange about it. But yeah, because the singer is so different. Yeah. It really changed. And the production is so different. There's no other album that's produced like this. But I'll ask you guys all this question. Do you actually, I mean, I remember this, I'm the oldest, and I'm not just saying that,

03:12:59.500 --> 03:13:29.440
But I remember this happening. When we went from that kind of warm sound. Sure, I remember. 80, 81, 82. Then 83 hit. And it's like every band had this kind of synthetic synth poppy kind of just no weight behind sound. Both bands suffered from this on their albums. I mean, even though Motorhead sounds more Motorhead. Yeah. It sounds like every band was a, every 70s band was a,

03:13:29.500 --> 03:13:59.460
victim to this in the 80s. Every single one. They couldn't escape it. There's no way. Well, look at the difference between Mob Rules and Heaven and Hell. The production on those are drastically different. But at least they're still... Look at what Joe Boresi just pulled off. Yeah. But those albums are all still kind of in the same realm. Yeah. I'll give you a better example. Def Leppard and High and Dry to Def Leppard and Pyromania. Wow. And that's only a two-year difference. Yeah, but... The mid-80s just killed...

03:13:59.500 --> 03:14:29.460
so many 70s bands. Thank God ACDC did not let Mutt Lang go that crazy with that. That's the only band that survived it. Now, it's the same fucking song, 10 songs on an album for X number of albums after for those about to rock, but. He did manufacture, he did manufacture their background vocals. He slipped into the Flipper background vocals there, but. No, I agree with you, and that is, that's all part of the interesting kind of weird tapestry that takes place here. I have to tell you, if I had probably been any

03:14:32.461 --> 03:14:34.400
I don't know how I would have received

03:14:35.870 --> 03:14:37.960
born again but in my weird

03:14:38.190 --> 03:14:40.540
rural house in Missouri in the middle of the night

03:14:40.710 --> 03:14:41.620
it was fucking brilliant

03:14:42.530 --> 03:14:44.180
and it scared me a little bit

03:14:44.380 --> 03:14:45.540
it's interesting because

03:14:46.641 --> 03:14:47.700
so I'm 54

03:14:48.010 --> 03:14:49.860
so I remember when

03:14:50.200 --> 03:14:51.020
Heaven and Hell came out

03:14:51.550 --> 03:14:53.940
I bought it right when it came out I was 12 years old

03:14:54.340 --> 03:14:55.640
so I was

03:14:58.940 --> 03:14:59.460
indoctrinated

03:15:00.659 --> 03:15:25.820
I got the Dio Sabbaths like, whoa. So I got both of those before we even got to this point. And then George, you're telling me, you're telling me your three albums were Mob Rules, We Sold Our Soul. And in this one, I'm like, fuck, by the time we got to this one, I was the first album, the second album, you know, Masters of Reality. I mean, Sabbath, Bloody Sabbath was oozing out of my fucking pores at that point.

03:15:25.880 --> 03:15:55.660
Yeah, well, I was, keep in mind, I was getting all my music off of the Columbia record and tape. Oh my God. At this time. So I was getting mine from kids that were older than me saying, Hey, asshole, listen to this. Yeah. See, I was all on my own and I was just the, you know, Columbia house thing, like ordering shit going, well, that sounds cool. Well, it's interesting too, because Jay, he loved Born Again right away. Like it affects him. So he has a high nostalgia factor for that record.

03:15:55.880 --> 03:15:56.480
So do I.

03:15:56.920 --> 03:15:58.300
And it's stuck with him.

03:15:58.600 --> 03:15:58.780
Yeah.

03:15:59.040 --> 03:15:59.700
All this time.

03:15:59.910 --> 03:16:01.880
Whereas we might not have had that.

03:16:02.320 --> 03:16:02.440
Yeah.

03:16:02.540 --> 03:16:04.260
I'm before that.

03:16:04.380 --> 03:16:05.060
I'm before it,

03:16:05.140 --> 03:16:05.340
you know,

03:16:05.500 --> 03:16:06.720
it's just so it's,

03:16:07.220 --> 03:16:14.000
I actually enjoy that the most about our podcast is how we're not that much older than you guys.

03:16:15.081 --> 03:16:16.120
And George,

03:16:17.180 --> 03:16:17.340
I'm,

03:16:17.440 --> 03:16:19.760
I'm significantly older than Matt and Markisan,

03:16:20.320 --> 03:16:21.600
but that's an interesting point.

03:16:22.440 --> 03:16:25.280
But it's only a couple of years and it's like light years.

03:16:25.420 --> 03:16:28.160
between us. Sometimes. Yeah.

03:16:29.320 --> 03:16:34.700
Marcus and Matt are from a whole different universe that Chuck hasn't destroyed yet on Supernatural.

03:16:34.880 --> 03:16:40.540
So Matt's from like the Nookie universe. Right. He did it all.

03:16:41.000 --> 03:16:43.780
And they're bitchy and complain over there all the time, you know, so.

03:16:44.380 --> 03:16:48.920
You know, I didn't even really think of that Marcus Simon, even though I've sort of articulated, I didn't use that word nostalgia.

03:16:49.140 --> 03:16:50.460
And you're absolutely right about that.

03:16:51.040 --> 03:17:20.360
But again, keep in mind, I heard this record, Black Metal, on the same day for the first time. Yeah. That's wild. That's definitely crazy. I lived an hour and a half from the mall where I bought them. And I'd already heard some extreme metal, but Black Metal was not over to me. And then I was just like, to think Sabbath had pulled off this amount of heaviness was a shock, even though I know the air. Well, I just mention it because nostalgia, it's the strongest pull. Of course. You know what I mean?

03:17:20.460 --> 03:17:50.320
Even if an album isn't as good, which I just I don't see how important it gets better. But the nostalgia factor is too much to overcome. You can't even you can't overstate that Markisan. Yeah, you literally cannot overstate that. Yeah, and I've done it too when we've had other albums on there. If I had an attachment to it, even if it's not a better album, technically musically songs, I'll go to that. I will say this. So that's not the case here.

03:17:50.480 --> 03:17:51.120
I understand you.

03:17:51.820 --> 03:17:51.880
Yeah.

03:17:51.980 --> 03:17:52.320
By the way,

03:17:52.320 --> 03:17:52.820
I think Born Again,

03:17:53.080 --> 03:17:53.260
though,

03:17:53.420 --> 03:17:56.060
is more capable of producing nostalgia,

03:17:56.250 --> 03:17:57.100
as weird as that sounds,

03:17:57.200 --> 03:17:59.580
and it's because it's so atmospheric to me.

03:17:59.720 --> 03:17:59.900
Yeah.

03:18:00.120 --> 03:18:00.180
Yeah.

03:18:00.340 --> 03:18:00.880
And like,

03:18:00.980 --> 03:18:01.160
really,

03:18:01.360 --> 03:18:06.180
like turn off all your lights and put on disturbing the peace and tell me that's not the perfect song for Halloween.

03:18:06.460 --> 03:18:08.680
And that's powerful stuff coming into a kid's ears,

03:18:08.820 --> 03:18:09.000
you know,

03:18:09.120 --> 03:18:09.220
and,

03:18:10.480 --> 03:18:10.580
and,

03:18:10.960 --> 03:18:11.120
um,

03:18:11.640 --> 03:18:12.720
and it's not just because,

03:18:13.890 --> 03:18:14.160
I mean,

03:18:14.240 --> 03:18:15.340
they still stand up to me.

03:18:15.390 --> 03:18:17.500
I still think that the title track is still,

03:18:17.960 --> 03:18:19.380
I still listen to those songs.

03:18:19.460 --> 03:18:49.400
Do you know the story behind disturbing the priest too? Yeah, they were. They recorded it in a place like a mansion and it was near a rectory or something. Yeah, there was lots and they were literally disturbing this priest. Yeah, they were doing choir practice and he came over. They left the store studio door open and he the priest wandered in and was like, can you turn it down? We're trying to have choir practice. It's actually really funny. Mr. Sabbath. Yeah. Hey, this is more or less the outcome.

03:18:49.460 --> 03:19:18.660
I expected to because I also don't blame anybody who's like, I don't know, these are not that great records, but I'm also kind of a completist and I don't think I try too hard to find things I love in things, but I love both of these bands very much and I don't think these are the dogs that they've got credit for being over the years. Jay, I guarantee if they remix that Born Again and retrack it, it wouldn't have been close. By the way, if they remix it, we should do this again.

03:19:18.780 --> 03:19:48.420
Can I give the Bill and Ted update to the game? Six to nine, dude! All right. By the way, he is supposed to be doing that. I only said a while back he was going to do that. He said it like last year. And if you'd like to hear it, Ian Gilliam did a solo record a while back called Ian Gilliam's Inn. And when she revisited his whole career, and he does a re-recorded version of Trash that actually has Tony on it.

03:19:49.819 --> 03:20:18.040
How does he say the name? Ian Gillen's Inn. Oh, okay. Like his, like Ian Gillen's Hotel. Yeah, no, I was just, it's a Seinfeld joke. Remember his name is Ian. It's not Ian, it's Ian. Oh, Ian. It actually might be called Gillen's Inn. But in any case, if you want to hear at least one adulterated kind of shitty sounding version of one of these songs, you can hear it. Trashed. And Trashed is about what again? They win.

03:20:19.779 --> 03:20:25.200
They went and drank a whole bottle of tequila

03:20:25.500 --> 03:20:30.680
and it was like they were in this bar and the guy was like, I don't even know that was up there. It's been there for 30 years and they drank this whole thing.

03:20:31.560 --> 03:20:38.020
And then a couple things happened. I think they went to a go-kart track for some reason and crashed a bunch of go-karts.

03:20:38.560 --> 03:20:42.080
But then they ended up driving a car into the pool.

03:20:42.480 --> 03:20:43.520
Bill Ward's car to be exact.

03:20:44.260 --> 03:20:44.720
Bill Ward's car.

03:20:46.660 --> 03:21:15.300
I would never expect a fucking old rock and roll band to do that. That's weird. But they stole Bill Ward's car and drove it into the pool. And that was the end of Bill Ward and Black Sabbath for a very long time. Yeah. I do love that the stories, the real life stories made it into the lyrics. Like to me, that the stories are actually better than the album. Well, it's funny. Sabbath seems to have the better stories than Motorhead, but you would think Motorhead would have the better stories.

03:21:16.660 --> 03:21:46.520
Not during that record though, because I think Marcus sounds right. He thought it was going to be fine, but I guess Bravo used to really stick it to him. He drove him absolutely fucking insane. He was just like, just ended already. That's why Phil Campbell worked out perfect for that band when he came in. He also came in though to finish the Iron Fist tour. That's when he joined the band. So he's actually on some of the Iron Fist live recordings. Maybe the second half of the tour or something.

03:21:47.239 --> 03:22:16.580
I don't know if you guys know this. Do you know why Eddie left? Because I do know. And it's kind of interesting. To form Fastway? No, they did. Remember they did that girl school thing? Yeah. And then Lemmy wanted to do Stand By Your Man with Wendy O. Williams. And Eddie was like, oh, we're going to stop doing songs with girls. This is stupid. He quit. He was like, fuck this. Wow. Yeah. He thought it was like watered down Motorhead or something.

03:22:17.600 --> 03:22:45.740
Which by the way, if you've never heard Wendell Williams singing Stand By Your Man. Yeah. That's not close to being watered down. Well, I thank you for taking part because that was a lot to ask of you guys to listen to two records that historically most people don't like that. No, it was fun to go back and adventure. I mean, it was actually, I said Motorhead went out of their lane a little bit and it was kind of nice to go out of my normal lane a little bit again. Yeah, no, I agree.

03:22:45.800 --> 03:23:15.280
And it might have been our longest discussion of albums ever for Thunderdome. So, and we don't even have the full team here. So. To be clear, both albums, by the way, that if somebody was like, recommend me something, I would never recommend to almost anybody, you know, it only makes sense in a group of people like this, you know, who have a big background and pulse from of music and can overlook some. But it's cool. Cause I doubt I would play those records, you know, but, uh,

03:23:15.820 --> 03:23:36.420
So you made me go back and listen to them. At least be part of it. There you go. I do suggest avoid the Ian Gillen live stuff. It's terrible. This is really bad. Yeah, I think I've heard some of that. Yeah. All righty then. Let us move on to what we are listening to.

03:24:00.520 --> 03:24:01.360
Mark is on.

03:24:02.160 --> 03:24:03.900
I'll take a fast leak on not to be disrespectful.

03:24:04.140 --> 03:24:05.180
I will be back before you go.

03:24:07.720 --> 03:24:07.900
Okay.

03:24:08.470 --> 03:24:10.220
Should I wait or should I go up to you?

03:24:12.780 --> 03:24:13.240
No, go ahead.

03:24:13.340 --> 03:24:41.260
I won't be that fast, but I just meant I didn't want to look like I didn't care what you're listening to. I'll be right back. Kind of seems like he doesn't care what you're listening to. All right. Well, I'll go. First record is the Otolith Folium Limina on blues funeral records. This is one of my most anticipated albums because I absolutely loved Sub Rosa. And this has four out of five band members.

03:24:43.320 --> 03:25:13.140
The Bassist from Visigoth. And it's fucking stunning. This record is amazing. It's just grand, heavy, majestic doom that saddens your heart with these forlorn violins and just the beautiful voice of Sarah Pendleton. And, you know, it's just, but it's fucking heavy still too. And I fucking love doom. But anyways, the last Sub Rosa album, I felt like the,

03:25:13.200 --> 03:25:42.920
He almost put too much into it. It was almost overwhelming. It was amazing. What are you talking about? It was good, but I like the first one better. So this one kind of gets back to that. I just feel like the song structures in this, this Otolith album are just phenomenal. I love this record. I did not know about this record until this morning. Well, no. Okay. Let me take that back. I did not know who this was until this morning. I had seen everybody online talking about this yesterday.

03:25:43.280 --> 03:26:13.160
and I'm like yeah I've never heard of this fucking band whatever fuck them and uh but but you know doing my due diligence for the episode I was like well a lot of people talked about this so let me look it up and I was like oh shit Sub Rosa okay and I like listened to it and immediately bought it and was like uh yeah this is really good yeah no it's that good it's it's I mean it's basically Sub Rosa continuing yeah um yeah love love

03:26:13.200 --> 03:26:40.760
I've loved that record. I've been playing it pretty constantly since it came out. Next one is Sentient Archetype. It's an independent release. This is an aggressive, dynamic, progressive metal from Indonesia. I don't know how I've found this record because it's very much under the radar. But I love it. You know, I like the more aggressive, progressive style. Like we're talking about Parius.

03:26:42.100 --> 03:27:11.160
And this one's a lot easier for me to get into because it's got, you know, it's guitar forward. And then it's the flourishes of progressive that I like. I gravitate towards those. So it takes me a little bit more time to get into like, you know, progressive forward albums. But so I really like this. The production is great on it, too. I don't know where these guys came from. I mean, they're from Indonesia, but unbelievable. And then the next one is imprecation.

03:27:11.900 --> 03:27:41.860
In Nominay Diaboli, on Dark Descent Records, just a bestial, monstrous death metal that envelops you in this occult haze of lurking dread. Their sound, it stands out to me in death metal for some reason. I think it's maybe that atmosphere that they put into it. I love the last one, but I like this one even more. And the album cover is freaking stunning too. So I'm really enjoying that one.

03:27:42.681 --> 03:28:11.880
Black Royal, Earthbound on M Theory Audio, a bombastic sludge and roll style metal, really big hooky riffs and evil grooves. It's kind of like Entombed mixed with Motorhead. Yeah, I listened to a little bit of this one because I saw it on your thing and I was like, okay, I know this. I don't know if they've got previous albums I've heard. It could just be because Black is in every other

03:28:28.420 --> 03:28:30.400
And this one might be better than that one.

03:28:30.710 --> 03:28:30.840
Okay.

03:28:32.860 --> 03:29:01.740
Next one is a Davea through sheer will and black magic and 20 bucks spin. This is one of my most played records this month. Cause it just came out just absolutely neck breaking death thrash with these lightspeed solos and just nonstop devastation on this record. Well, you know, that's Steve from crypt sermon, right? Yes. Okay. Uh, I love this.

03:29:01.800 --> 03:29:08.860
record. It's furious. And I need to be in the pit and see this band live.

03:29:10.140 --> 03:29:21.300
I've listened to their other record. I can't remember if it was an EP or if it was a full length before. And it did not affect me the same way. They've definitely upgraded with this one.

03:29:22.240 --> 03:29:52.160
And then the last thing on my list is, well, basically for most of the month, I've been down in a hole with Alice in Chains. I got the remastered edition of Dirt on limited yellow vinyl, and I've been spinning it a ton to celebrate the 30th anniversary this year. And because I think I've talked about how I wanted this record for years on this podcast, and they finally put it out.

03:29:53.119 --> 03:30:22.120
Because it was like $300 or some crazy thing. Really? I didn't pay that much. I only paid like $20 for it. Yeah, me too. I mean, if you waited. Yeah, you guys probably bought it when it was at some release, right? No, I think what it was is that it was out and then they just didn't reissue any more copies of it and it became like a fucking collectible. I don't know. Indiana Jones had to find it in some Amazonian jungle or somewhere.

03:30:22.220 --> 03:30:52.180
I couldn't find it for a good price anywhere and it was just hard to find so I was happy they put it out and actually I like this remastered edition. Yeah exactly. This shit might be worth something on my end. Check Discogs because what the fuck but also in addition to listening to Dirtle Ton I mean I read the biography nice John I just read the biography Allison Chains the Untold Story by David DeSolo and I just finished it like maybe a couple days ago.

03:30:53.060 --> 03:31:21.980
And I've been listening to this weekly podcast about the band called The Opus. I think Consequence, that site put it out. The guy then, well, I guess it's kind of a tool, but it's some good information on it. So that's been pretty good. It's about Tool? No, it's the guy. He's a tool. He's a tool. Got it. But of course, I've been spinning on Plugged, Jar of Fly, Sap, Facelift, Mad Season Record, and all that stuff. Yeah, it's all fucking good, man.

03:31:22.040 --> 03:31:51.560
It's all good. All things Alice in my house at the moment. That's awesome. So yeah, I definitely, like I said, I am down in the hole with Alice in Chains. Just really enjoying it, celebrating it. And the only Seattle band that outside of, I can't think of the name of the band, but the dude with the crazy fucking hair from Seattle that admits that they had metal influence. Oh, the guy from the Melvins, right? Melvins, Melvins. Yeah, thank you.

03:31:52.040 --> 03:32:21.900
And Alice in Chains are the only Seattle bands that of the grunge scene that admitted. Oh, yeah. Funny as picture. Nirvana liked metal. They did, but they were kind of weird. They never got into that conversation. Maybe it's just directed at Soundgarden just being such weenies about it. So John, did you ever read the book? The Alice in Chains one? No, but I need to, though. I read an Alice in Chains book. I don't know. I don't think it was that one, though. It's a really good book. So I got I read it.

03:32:22.020 --> 03:32:51.980
Well, I kind of mixed it. So I got the audio version and I have the actual book. So I would read it sometimes. And then when I would like to cooking or throw it on. Yeah. And the narrator is really good. Actually, I liked that one, but it's fucking sad. But there's just tons of information I didn't know about. And I would highly recommend that book. If only people knew more about how things were at the end, how they tried so hard to fix things, you know, and it just, they had to go on.

03:32:52.040 --> 03:33:21.900
And how he was like 80 pounds when they found him. Yeah. No teeth. It's a wreck. So I get so frustrated when people say, oh, no, Lane, no, Allison Chase. Like, do you realize how important Jerry Cantrell is to that band? I mean, that's it. The band is him more than anything else. You know, and it just frustrating because I love Lane, but I hate when people say it's not the same band. I mean, Jerry's involved in every aspect.

03:33:22.020 --> 03:33:50.560
to that band. Isn't it funny how much he really resembles Bill Steer, by the way? Oh my God, they could be fun. I want them both on stage together playing like grindy Alice in Chains songs. You know, and then I want them playing like Alice in Chains Do Me Riff carcass songs. I want it. So I hate to bring the baseball game back up again, but the Padres just put in Stephen Wilson to try and remix the game.

03:33:52.040 --> 03:34:21.580
Yeah, well, that's going to take a while. You're going to have to pay him to do that. Oh, well, he didn't remix that well because he gave up a run. Yeah. Wow. Like, literally right there. We're looking at potentially Phillies and Astros. Potentially. Potentially. Oh, there's another one. 10 to 6. I'll tell you why I say potentially, because when the Giants won in 2012, they were down, I think, 2-0.

03:34:22.040 --> 03:34:51.500
to the Reds, they came back and won 3-2. And they were down 3-1 to the Cardinals, came back and won 4-3. And then they swept the Tigers. Sorry, George, I don't know if you're a Tigers fan. I am a Tigers fan. Yeah. That was a good Tigers team, too, by the way. It's all right. We have 84. They do. And no one predicted they would win that year. Daryl Evans played for the Giants, won with the Tigers. I love Daryl Evans. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I know, Daryl. I know. All right. Anyway,

03:34:52.040 --> 03:35:21.880
I'm glad you got a copy of that kind of yellowish sunburst-y type vinyl because that one went pretty quick. Yeah, yeah, because I think it was like a European version. That's awesome, man. It's such a good album, too. It really is. Because they announced it and the vinyl went like that. It was ridiculous. I don't know how I was able to score this one. And I don't know how you guys feel. I consider that a metal alternative album. It's metal to me.

03:35:22.020 --> 03:35:51.740
Yeah, that's a fair way to put it. It's not full metal. It's an alternative metal album as far as I'm concerned. But you're not going to find a singer like that who doesn't come from a metal band. No way. I mean, playing back Black Sabbath riffs with that singing, that's crazy. So. All right. So Matt, you're up. Yep. Okay. I spent a ton of that Graceless album. Yes. I just love those riffs. And like we talked,

03:35:52.040 --> 03:35:55.040
It's better than their last album, which was already a great album.

03:35:57.800 --> 03:35:59.860
I've also spun the first three

03:36:00.000 --> 03:36:01.920
Sword albums. I feel like we were talking about it in the

03:36:02.100 --> 03:36:04.000
chat yesterday, and as I was doing

03:36:04.180 --> 03:36:05.100
yard work, I had them going.

03:36:05.960 --> 03:36:07.920
I'd probably gravitate more to the first album,

03:36:08.920 --> 03:36:09.760
but I definitely want to

03:36:10.020 --> 03:36:12.000
kind of spin those first three albums a little bit more.

03:36:14.380 --> 03:36:16.080
I saw Pike vs. the Automaton

03:36:16.200 --> 03:36:17.820
is going on tour, so I've been

03:36:17.980 --> 03:36:19.600
spinning the new album from 2022.

03:36:21.180 --> 03:36:51.160
Thank you for posting about the, is it Otolith? Oh yeah, the Otolith, yeah. Was not on my radar whatsoever. I think John actually had it up first though. Did you really? Oh shit, okay. That's cool. It's my Ornos, that's cool. No man, Marcus had it first. I was a huge Subrosa fan and this was not on my radar at all. I put it on this morning while I was contending with the artwork. I felt like this album went on

03:36:51.180 --> 03:37:20.140
forever and yet I didn't want it to end. Yeah. It does actually because it's like 70 minutes long. I mean I think that's the thing like John had it up there but then I wrote something about it being Sub-Rosa coming back and people didn't know that. No. Yeah it's Sub-Rosa and Visigoth. Yeah. Those are the two bands. Yeah the basses from that. Also Deva as you mentioned Markasson. Yes. It's actually like three guys from Crip Sermon. Yeah. Including Enrique.

03:37:21.180 --> 03:37:51.160
I went on a huge post-hardcore deep dive. For some reason, I think the new Mars Volta release kicked me to, at the drive-in, kicked me to post-hardcore. I've been doing a lot of my year-end list evaluation, to which I won't get into specifics, but it was definitely time to kind of clean up my Bandcamp wish list and figure out what stays on my list. And then lastly, I've been reading Dee Snider's book, which

03:37:51.200 --> 03:38:21.160
It's probably been out for quite a while, but... Good book. Yeah, yeah. So far, we're really at just stay hungry, so I've really been spinning the first three albums. Nice. So that's it for me. Can't go wrong with those three. Well, actually, let me... I want to make a suggestion, and that is... What's Lemmy got to do with it? They're on iTunes, and I don't know where else you could get them, but there are two excellent live albums that are totally worth your time, and one is slides, and the

03:38:21.180 --> 03:38:51.160
Marquee club in England and it was for right before you can't step rock and roll came out and it's it's a punk record dude I'm telling you and then the following year or maybe two years later after stay hungry came out the camera played like I don't think it's the hammer smith odium but it might be and both are fucking awesome so check it's one of them's live at marquee club and one is just live in London on the stay hungry tour

03:38:51.659 --> 03:39:19.300
Totally waste their time. I'm much quicker to put those in than any of the sister's records if I wasn't pulling in these days. I'm on it. My greatest celebrity moment of all time, Dee Snider's hair slapping me in the face. It is all slapping you in the face. Dee Snider's hair and Dee O's aura. Yeah, because he's just like banging his head while he's singing and it's just flapping in my face and I'm like, flagellate me, Dee, flagellate me.

03:39:23.140 --> 03:39:23.620
Anyway.

03:39:25.840 --> 03:39:28.380
All right, then if Matt is done, it is John.

03:39:29.279 --> 03:39:29.920
All right.

03:39:31.000 --> 03:39:32.680
So I've got quite a few, actually.

03:39:34.600 --> 03:39:36.520
10-6 above the 7 Phillies up.

03:39:38.759 --> 03:39:42.560
So these are all my listens since our last podcast.

03:39:43.940 --> 03:39:44.600
So I got a few.

03:39:45.060 --> 03:39:46.640
Not that many, but it's a lot for me.

03:39:47.220 --> 03:39:47.960
So bear with me.

03:39:48.300 --> 03:39:49.860
My Greek is not that good here.

03:39:50.180 --> 03:39:50.800
It's going to be terrible.

03:39:50.960 --> 03:40:20.680
But the band name is Aniaon. Yeah, yeah. And the album is, I was saying this when I was a little more sober. But, I can't pronounce the name. I'm sorry. I had it down. I can't now. It translates to the Greek goddess of memory. They are a Greek progressive black metal band that, if you're a fan of what,

03:40:20.960 --> 03:40:50.800
and Borknagar have been doing. Borknagar, whatever you want to call them. In the last X number of years, they're just so fucking good. I have all four of their albums. This one is just outstanding. They bring a little sax love to your listing. They had sax all the way from the beginning on their first album, so it's not like it's something new. You know, like, oh, we're a tech death band, so let's add that dude from fucking, you know,

03:40:50.960 --> 03:41:20.900
that does the sax in this band. No, they're not doing that. They've had it all along. It's really good stuff. I mean, it's black metal, it's proggy, it's sax-y, but it's black metal. And I guess we throw avant-garde around too much now because avant-garde means they're kind of trailblazing. They're past that now, so I would call it more experimental, extreme. I'll go with that. But it's really good. It's challenging right now for my album.

03:41:20.960 --> 03:41:50.940
of the month. The album covers a little strange. It's like a lot of weird people touching each other. So it's like an episode of the podcast. At Decimal Fest. In April. Be there. Touch us too. So my next one, An Abstract Illusion. The album is Woe. It's their first album in six years. They're kind of a proggy death melodic band from Sweden. Wow. They upped the ante on this

03:41:50.960 --> 03:42:20.940
This one, again, they're kids too. They could be my kids. I think the one guy just turned 30. It's like, woo, we're old now. I'm like, fuck. Do I have to still pay your tuition? Good stuff. I absolutely love it. Next one that came out a little while back, but it's been a while since we've done a podcast, Blind Guardian, The God Machine. I absolutely love this album. It's a semi-return to form, and I don't want to say that because Blind Guardian can do whatever the fuck they want, although I know

03:42:20.960 --> 03:42:50.840
Everyone's all upset about their classical album they did. But they've earned their stripes over the years. But this one brings back some of that kind of late 90s power, fast-paced, not speed metal, but the fast-paced power metal. And they're not that traditional power metal where they're singing these gang lyrics about sailing on seas of cheese and taking out from the Mordor. I know I'm combining a lot of different genres here, but they,

03:42:50.960 --> 03:43:20.760
They're not doing that. They're not slaying dragons all the time, although they are singing about Lord of the Rings all the time. But this new Blind Guardian album's awesome, and I would not be surprised if it lists for me. I love it. I agree. I love that record, too. I like Blind Guardian, but the songs, like, from start to finish, are one song throughout it. I agree. I don't feel like I have to skip anything or I'm bored by anything, which has been a long time for me for Blind Guardian. Next one, Faceless Burial.

03:43:20.940 --> 03:43:49.220
at the foothills of, oh God, Deloration. Is that how you say it? Third album, death metal band, semi-tech death band from Australia. It's good. It's aggressive. It's deep. It's dark. It's nasty. It's cool stuff. Next album, Mother of Graves, Where the Shadows Adorned. I absolutely love this album. Mother of Graves, they have a, they kind of pull off of the Peaceful Three,

03:43:51.399 --> 03:44:19.960
Catatonia Brave Murder Day era sound. And there's not a lot of bands that do that. And it's kind of nice to hear somebody else doing it. That's kind of a newer band. And they do it better than those bands. They just, the sound is better. It's a lot of those bands. You list those early Paradise Lost and My Dying Bride and Anathema albums. They're just kids trying to do that. And this guy's just sounds better. Maybe it's just because it's better production, but I love it. It's a great album.

03:44:20.960 --> 03:44:49.220
We've mentioned the otolith. I mean, I'm a big fan of Subrosa. George and I saw Subrosa at Maryland Death Fest on the Thursday night show, and they were outstanding, and it's nice to see them. Nice to see the mix of the harsh vocals, male vocals, and then the female vocals, I think, is from one of violinists. She does a majority of them from Subrosa. So it's kind of cool. The nice mix. It's not a Beauty and Beast thing from the 90s and early 2000s.

03:44:49.340 --> 03:45:19.280
They do a much better job of placing them together in the songs. And yes, I think, Marcus, did you say it was a super long album? George said it. George said it. I'm sorry. It is. It's long, but it goes by fast, which is nice. Yeah, man, their songs are great. Yeah. And I kind of like that the violin replaces the synth or keyboards on the album, which I think is kind of cool. We've mentioned them. They're pariahs.

03:45:19.320 --> 03:45:48.280
or Perry, whatever you want to call them, a single herd throughout space. We've already mentioned that. It's a good album. An album that nobody's really talking about, and that's cool because we haven't mentioned much trad metal, which I hate that expression. That would be traditional heavy metal or U.S. power metal from the 80s. Summerlands, Dream Killer. It's a cool album. I like it. You know, it's the guys from Crip Sermon, I believe. Oh, no, Eternal Champion. Eternal Champion.

03:45:49.700 --> 03:46:18.640
Actually, Eternal Champion, Dream Unending, and Immutable Forms. So, yeah, it's a whole slew of people. It's a cool album. I forgot to listen to that. Yeah, it's, look, it's, right now, we have a gluttony of old-school death metal and old-school U.S. power metal. It's just, there's too many bands doing that now. There's nothing new. They're part of that old-school traditional U.S. power metal.

03:46:19.340 --> 03:46:48.600
They're just really good at doing it. So I believe that's Arthur Rizek's band, isn't it? Yes. Yeah, I think he's in that one. I think so. He plays guitar in that band. So and my last one, Vorbid, a swarm by the edge of Mandala. They are a Norwegian progressive slash technical thrash band. Emphasis more on the progressive side because their previous album was more technical thrash, but just vocals I hated.

03:46:49.320 --> 03:47:19.300
They've kind of changed that around a little bit. It's a killer album. That's all I got. Big list, John. Good job. I'm a little buzzed. From all my big beers from Reno. I'm keeping it real simple because I listen to a lot of different stuff all the time, but the things that I listen to most this week that are new and worth mentioning are The Goat Hoard and Sock. Both of those I listen to a lot. And then, just speaking

03:47:19.340 --> 03:47:48.300
falling down holes. And this happens to me. And I might have even said this last time. I don't know, but I fell down a saxophone. I'm stuck on everything from everything up to power and the glory. Sometimes I'll just do that for a week and just keep putting records in. Aren't you always in the saxophone mode? Well, that came out because of the Feast Over Hammersmith, which I put in. So I had the Eagles landed and now I'm screwed. But I can't remember. And then you wake up in Dallas at 1 p.m. and you're like, where the fuck am I?

03:47:49.340 --> 03:48:16.400
But I can't recommend enough that new Gordon Hall record. I know we already bragged about it, but that's a real treat, and Sog is always good. Nice. All righty. So despite my not listening to a whole lot of things, I actually have a longer list than usual, but that's, as I think John mentioned, due to the fact that it's been a while. But a lot of this stuff, actually, I think the list doubled today.

03:48:19.340 --> 03:48:48.540
One that has come out since our last episode that I don't think we've actually mentioned, but maybe we have. The new Behemoth, Opus Contra Naturum, their 12th album. And if I can remember the last month, I think it was my album of the month. Really good stuff. Another one that's getting a little long in the tooth as far as the year goes, Bloodbath, their Survival of the Sickest, their sixth album is also,

03:48:50.200 --> 03:49:19.300
better to me than their last album probably was. So I've been enjoying that. Next is the album that I wanted to be my album of the month, but as we know, it's going to be goat whore. But this would be my second place. And that is the new Bloody Hammers album that nobody likes but me. Washed in the Blood. It's their seventh album. They're a North Carolina doom rock band. And this is probably, it's ironic because they've been on Napoli

03:49:19.360 --> 03:49:49.300
for a few albums. And this is their first independently released album. And it's probably their best album. It is their most consistent album. It is, uh, it's pretty rocking, you know, sometimes they, they go heavy and then they go gothy and then they go heavy and they go back and forth. And this is like pretty banging from front to back until the last song. And then the last song's kind of slower, but it works. Um, so I would say this is probably definitely

03:49:49.340 --> 03:50:19.280
Definitely a lister. I know nobody likes them, but I fucking dig them. So, fuck y'all. Love ya. Doesn't matter, man. You like them. That's all that matters. That's right. And we spread the wealth to the listeners. Exactly. Next up is a band called Catapult the Sun. And their second EP, Cathode. They're an instrumental doomed sludge band from Greece. I just kind of stumbled across this in the feed the other day. And I was like, hey, I like how this sounds.

03:50:20.180 --> 03:50:47.680
Were you drunk camping recently? Because you got a lot of purchases. I wasn't drunk camping. I just was catching up. Coffee camping then. Yeah, pretty much. I've been kind of in a more doomy, grungy, sludgy mood lately instead of an extreme mood because I kind of got burned out. Though I still do like stuff when it's good.

03:50:47.720 --> 03:51:14.840
But I've just been sort of leaning in a different direction. And this just caught me. And I was like, hey, I dig this. It's, you know, it's instrumental. So it's just cool, doom background music. Next, the album's not out yet, not until next week, but the new Dark Throne song, Caravan of Broken Ghosts, fucking rips. You know, these guys, I mean, I'm a big fan of their early catalog.

03:51:15.940 --> 03:51:45.860
But the last few albums have been kind of hit or miss. And I wasn't really a big fan of the last one, Eternal Hails. Though I probably should go listen to it again after hearing this song. But this song is fucking awesome. So I can't wait till next week to hear the rest of the Dark Throne album. What album number is this? Like 93 or some shit. It seems like it, doesn't it? It's been around for so long. Yeah. Next up is a band called Fraile. And that's spelled F-R-A-Y-L-E.

03:51:45.940 --> 03:52:15.060
It's their second album, Skin and Sorrow. They're a Cleveland, like sort of doomy post-metal band, female vocals. And what I really dig about it is her voice. And I'm going to get into this more later, but it's a very haunting and soothing type of voice. It's a bit heavier than,

03:52:15.940 --> 03:52:45.400
other things that I listen to with this type of vocals. It's not like it's super heavy, but it's just more metal. But it's cool. I like it. Next up, Heads for the Dead, The Great Conjuration. It's their third album. They're an international death metal band. And if you haven't listened to this, I think you should. Marcasson's shaking his head like... No, I'm just cracking my neck. Okay. I was going to say, you cannot be shaking your head because this is a good album. So you should go listen to it. I listened to it. It's solid. All right. Thank you.

03:52:47.560 --> 03:53:14.700
Next up, previously mentioned the Otolith. I just checked that out this morning. I was like, Sub Rosa, what? And got all over that, jumped on it, picked it up. Next up, not metal, but the band, the Pixies, have a new album called Dog Roll. It's their seventh album. It's like alternative rock stuff. I was really into these guys in the 90s. Black Francis, he's been back in the band, but he left for a little while.

03:53:15.220 --> 03:53:45.080
They came back and put out a few more albums. And this one's pretty cool. I like it. It's, you know, alternative grungy kind of stuff, but it's cool. I love the Pixies. I love you. And then we have Tylo, T-Y-L-O. And this is another female singer. She calls it Doom Folk. And I picked up her album, The Descent.

03:53:45.200 --> 03:54:15.140
and her latest EP called Six. And it's her voice. Most of this album is kind of acoustic or at least not distorted electric guitar. With her haunting vocals over top of it, it's extremely calming and soothing to me. She does throw in some heavier guitars every now and again. And, you know, she looks like every other gothic, you know, mere core looking singer out there with draped in,

03:54:15.220 --> 03:54:41.300
and black and lace and things. But I really dig this. And I don't think most people have probably heard of this one. I just kind of stumbled across it. So check it out. And finally, this is another one that's not entirely metal. It's a band called Weddings. And the album's called Book of Spells. It's their second album. They're an Austrian sort of doom grunge.

03:54:45.220 --> 03:55:15.060
I was like, oh, this is sort of 90s sounding. And the vocalists, there's two vocalists, there's the man and a woman, and they sort of harmonize on most of the songs for the vocals. So there's like two vocal lines like Alice in Chains for most stuff. And on some of the songs, the guy will sing more and the woman will sing more on the other one. But it's kind of cool, and I'm digging it a lot. So that's what I've got.

03:55:16.119 --> 03:55:16.800
All right.

03:55:17.980 --> 03:55:21.620
Bit of a return to form for the list there, George. Good job.

03:55:22.260 --> 03:55:24.520
I was like, oh, wow, it's getting kind of long.

03:55:25.860 --> 03:55:28.480
But not too long, because you kept us engaged.

03:55:28.980 --> 03:55:29.300
Exactly.

03:55:29.680 --> 03:55:30.400
Just the tip.

03:55:30.780 --> 03:55:31.780
Just the tip.

03:55:33.539 --> 03:55:35.400
So, yeah.

03:55:36.280 --> 03:55:36.580
All right.

03:55:36.900 --> 03:55:41.160
We have reached the almost end, but first we need your albums of the episode.

03:55:41.960 --> 03:55:42.440
Oh, yeah.

03:55:45.720 --> 03:56:14.060
We know what Matt's is going to be. Oh, man. This is tough. I mean, fuck. I think normally I would go with Alice in Chains Dirt, but I think I'm going to go with the Odolith because I want people to listen to that because I love Sub Bros and I think this might be the best record they've done, that group. So it's just glorious doom. So I'm going to go with the Odolith.

03:56:15.479 --> 03:56:15.920
Cool.

03:56:17.659 --> 03:56:18.100
Heyo.

03:56:19.320 --> 03:56:19.440
John.

03:56:19.980 --> 03:56:20.660
No, Matt.

03:56:21.220 --> 03:56:22.900
He has to say it legally.

03:56:22.900 --> 03:56:23.860
I have to say it.

03:56:24.080 --> 03:56:27.720
It's based on a contractual obligation to which I signed.

03:56:28.940 --> 03:56:31.440
My album of the episode is Leviathan.

03:56:31.900 --> 03:56:32.720
Oh, yeah, it is.

03:56:33.180 --> 03:56:35.580
One of these days you're going to have to actually think about it.

03:56:35.940 --> 03:56:36.380
Thank you, Jay.

03:56:37.000 --> 03:56:37.800
Not at all, sir.

03:56:37.880 --> 03:56:41.680
I was surprised that there it came in at the end.

03:56:41.920 --> 03:56:42.900
I love it.

03:56:43.400 --> 03:57:11.140
What's your other album of the episode? The new Subrosa. Followed by Dirt. John. As I have two tattoos from that album. I'm going to go with Mother of Graves as my album of the month. I absolutely love the kind of Catatonia, Brave Murder Day sound and Peaceful Three sound that Dave captured.

03:57:14.939 --> 03:57:43.000
He said album of the month. So I was wondering if he was going to declare his album early slip. And my album of the month is Macedon Leviathan. John's a little tipsy. Not at all. Actually, I'm just unbelievably tired right now. Oh, man. No, I'm album of the episode and month. Mother of grace. Oh, he is doing it. Fuck it. Not even going to.

03:57:43.400 --> 03:58:13.320
I don't have to worry. I can move on to November. I'm done. All right. Now I can go to sleep. I'll go with Goat Hor. It's a great record. So why not? This is going to stick with my ribs for a couple of months to be sure. Yeah. I was thinking I was going to go Goat Hor for album of the episode, but as I've already declared it my album of the month, I'm going to give a little love somewhere else for the episode. And that would be the Bloody Hammers album, Washed in the Blood.

03:58:14.840 --> 03:58:16.220
I should definitely check that out.

03:58:16.340 --> 03:58:16.580
All right.

03:58:16.690 --> 03:58:16.780
Yeah.

03:58:16.980 --> 03:58:17.080
Yeah.

03:58:17.080 --> 03:58:17.180
Yeah.

03:58:19.500 --> 03:58:19.960
All right.

03:58:20.200 --> 03:58:20.340
Wait,

03:58:20.420 --> 03:58:21.020
what time is it?

03:58:21.400 --> 03:58:21.480
10,

03:58:21.680 --> 03:58:21.820
11,

03:58:22.640 --> 03:58:23.000
11,

03:58:23.390 --> 03:58:23.480
11,

03:58:24.380 --> 03:58:24.960
four hours.

03:58:25.880 --> 03:58:26.020
Yep.

03:58:26.240 --> 03:58:26.980
A little over four hours.

03:58:27.170 --> 03:58:27.280
Well,

03:58:27.420 --> 03:58:28.760
if we cut this off fast enough,

03:58:29.030 --> 03:58:30.000
I can get the last video.

03:58:30.110 --> 03:58:33.460
I would love to do.

03:58:33.880 --> 03:58:34.920
I want to see the Phillies minute.

03:58:35.180 --> 03:58:35.500
All right.

03:58:35.580 --> 03:58:35.680
Well,

03:58:36.640 --> 03:58:38.020
go do what you got to do.

03:58:38.410 --> 03:58:39.840
I think we should do another round table.

03:58:39.990 --> 03:58:40.340
I don't know.

03:58:40.380 --> 03:59:09.040
What are you talking about, Jay? Come on. Nice to see you guys. Yeah. All right. So we will see all next month, hopefully. I mean, we've got it planned anyway. And hopefully we'll be there this time. So have a good one. We'll talk to you next time. Boy. Urine's coming. Get ready. Winter is coming. Grown. Winter is coming. Exactly. Sack up. All right. Jay's gone now. We can just keep talking if we want.

03:59:10.380 --> 03:59:13.100
All right. Bye.

04:00:05.180 --> 04:00:08.160
Hey, this message is for Swift Heads Popcast.

04:00:08.760 --> 04:00:23.460
Hey, how about a little bit more love for the t-shirts? You go over all the ingredients of beer, but I got no idea what these t-shirts are made of. Is it a rayon blend? Polyester? What type of ink is on the shirt? What are we doing here, guys? Show a little love to the t-shirts.
